Well, I couldn't find Club Paradise, Circo, or Media Luna. Oh well. :(
Went to Circo, Envidia and Media Luna. All was quiet. Did not see to many soldiers. All the places had lots of customers, but the selection was not too good. Did not have to pay any cover charges. Circo was no cover. Probably because I got there before 10pm. They gave me a receipt to get into Envidia and Envidia gave me a receipt to get into Media Luna plus a free ride over. Circo had the best selection.If you want to check out the various clubs, get a receipt, to avoid cover charge at next club. I can see these clubs are working together. Maybe they'll even give you a ride. They'll expect a tip, so weigh the cost of cab ride vs tip.
Well, I couldn't find Club Paradise, Circo, or Media Luna. Oh well. :(I think I found Club Paradise. I still haven't found Circo, or Media Luna. Below is map and photos of Club Paradise.

posted on 8/24/10. plug in the following numbers. 25. 877527. 97. 50934 at google maps and zoom in until you get to street view. it's the blue house on vicente guerrero next to the dark orange house being worked on by the painters. google maps puts the address as vicente guerrero 1200, zona centro, heroica matamoros, tamps, mexico. that is just an approximation.
it's a "massage parlor" no signs on the door or elsewhere. usually the ladies hang in the front room that you can see from the street if you just peek in. sometimes they'll call you over from the other side of the metal doors. they they charge 300 pesos a pop but your mileage may vary.
if you do not speak spanish, you may have some difficulties. do not expect anything more than a 6. it appeared to me to be place for locals. this was three months ago. below is map and photos of this blue massage parlor.

This is a continuation of my report concerning my first trip to Matamoros, and I will apologize now for the post being so lengthy. After having visited the clubs (Paradise, Cobacha, and Imperio) the night before. I was curious about the SW action on 10th Street. I crossed the border about 3:00pm, and approached the cab stand next to the little park that you come to after you cross over the bridge. I asked the cab driver if he knew where I could obtain a street map of Matamoros. He entered the little cab shack there, and he retrieved a Street map, which he was kind enough to give to me.
I also wanted to do some shopping for gift items, and I learned that the market is very close to the area of 10th Street that is frequented by SW's. I was thinking that perhaps I could walk to the shopping area, then do a little recon of 10th Street. However, the cab driver indicated that the shopping area was at least 21 blocks from the area of the cab stand near the bridge, and I didn't really want to hike that far. So, the cab driver offered to take me to the shopping district for the going rate, which is $5. I got in his cab and away we went, West bound on Alvaro Obregon Street. From Alvaro Obregon Street the cab turned Right onto Calle Matamoros, which lead to the 9th Street market area, known as the Mercado Juarez (Garcias New Market).
The cab driver dropped me off at the corner of Calle 9 and Calle Matamoros, and I proceeded to walk around the market area for a while. Then, I decided to look for some SW action off of 10th Street one block over. I walked South on 10th Street all the way to the end where 10th Street intersects Valle Hermoso Street. This was a rather long hike, and I saw no signs of SW action. So, I decided to walk back and cover the North side of 10th Street, so I back tracked and ended up walking North on 10th Street from the approximate area where the cab had originally dropped me off.
I found what I was looking for not too far North of Calle Matamoros on 10th Street. There was a number of SW's just standing in front of some doorways along the road, but most were pretty rough. I did notice a really cute. 19 year old SW who was standing in a doorway about halfway down from Calle Matamoros on North 10th Street. So, I approached her and inquired her price. She wanted $35 for f. I bargained her down to what I thought was $25. But, I should have questioned her further, and gotten everything straight with here up front. But, this was my first experience with SW's in Mexico, and it through me off a little.
She indicated that she had a hotel near by and asked me to follow her there on foot. It was a short walk North on 10th Street. I think she then asked me for $12 to pay for the room. Ok, so I paid the $12, and we went to the room, which wasn't elaborate, but it was surprisingly nice and clean, but simple. It had no TV, no telephone, etc. But the bed seemed comfortable and the room was in pretty nice shape. The room even had antique furnishings that looked rather nice. Anyway, we locked the door, and she asked for the money. I gave her $25 and she indicated that 'no, it's $35. ' She spoke very little English, but I thought for sure I had heard her say $25 out on the street. I thought maybe I had just misunderstood her. Anyway, I realized that I had already made an investment in the hotel, so I figured I better go ahead and reap some of the dividends of this little investment. So like a fool, I gave her another $10 when I probably should have cut my losses and left.
She stashed the money, got me ready, laid back on the bed, and pulled up her dress. At this point I was hoping this hot little 19 year old would at least take off her clothes, but she indicated that 'sin la ropa was $60. ' I was really miffed at this point, and told her to forget it. I know what you guys are thinking. I do know better, but I was off my game that day. Live and Learn!
I intended to go ahead with her clothes on, but I was so flustered at the way things were going that it took a while for me to become ready again. Especially with her clothes on. Well, I was just getting started when she all of a sudden says, 'I'm very sorry, but time is up. ' I couldn't believe it! Under other circumstances I would have probably argued with her, and thrown a fit, but since it was my first experience in Mexico, I didn't want to end up in a Mexican jail, or worse, so I allowed her to leave without incident.
There is another reason that I decided to end this little experience when I did. When I was looking into her eyes, I noticed that they were severely blood shot. I immediately thought, 'this girl is probably a crack w. Just the thought of that possibility made me doubt the wisdom of going further, and I'm sure my apprehension had an effect on my readiness, if you know what I mean.
My recommendation is to never venture over to the drug invested criminally oriented 10th Street venue. It just isn't worth it guys. Don't waste your time, your money, or your health. Not when you can experience the virtues of Paradise, Cobacha, Imperio, and probably a number of other legitimate clubs that offer a much better value. I will never again venture over on 10th Street. Based on my experiences with the clubs, there is no comparison to the poor value of 10th Street and exceptional value of the club environment.
I provided such a detailed account of my experiences in this lengthy post so those of you who want to experience 10th Street can do so. You can easily find the 10th Street experience from the directions I've provided. But, my advice is to stay away from the 10th Street scam artists. I'll follow-up later with my report on the exceptional experiences I had with the clubs when I have a little more time. Good Hunting Everybody and Stay Safe. Yes, I realize this is the Matamoros section, and not the Reynosa section, but if any mogers here haven't been to Reynosa boystown, you might want to consider it. I don't know what the current crop of door girls look like, with all the violence going on in Reynosa. These photos might not be representative of the current door girls in Reynosa BT. When I went to Reynosa BT, about 7 years ago, these photos would have been representative of the door girls there. I was very impressed with the door girls back then. It's called Quintana Roo. I'm wondering if there is a street, or section in Matamoros which is similar???? The fancy bars like Paradise, Eclipse, Circo, Envidia, Media Luna, Imperio, Tkch, etc., are nice for high dollar action, but where can you go in Matamoros to get this cheaper action??? I'm sure there is an area like this in Matamoros, I'm just wondering where, if anybody here knows????

And people are saying that this 10th street area may not be safe at night. Be careful in this 10th street area. Sounds to me like cholos (hoodlums, thugs) and drug addicts may hang out in this area.

Posted on 6/5/02. This is LEGALIZED PROSTITUTION. The way it should be controlled everywhere. Matamoros used to have a hugh boys town, but it was closed down. Laredo, Progresso, Reynosa still do. Many towns in the Mexican interior also have them as well. It is a walled off part of town, full of * houses, titty joints, bars, etc, where police monitor, legal prostitution. Typically there is only one single gated entrance / exit, that is monitored by the local police. They will even charge you $3 or so, just to go in, which is used to pay for the police services. I don't know what gringo came up with the name boystown, but Mexicans call them,"tolerence zones", (zona de tolorancia). It is a civilized approach to protitution. Prostitution has been legalized within the confines of these walls. Many of these towns that have boystowns, have few if any street walkers. Ever since Matamoros closed there's. 10th steet and many other neighborhoods of town are plagued by steet walkers, (many of whom are disease riden, and / or dangerous criminals). Not coincidentally. 10th street is the highest crime area of Matamoros. And that is the purpose of a zone. Keep it all confined to a single place, control it, and do not tolerate street walkers. Most tolorence zones in Mexico also monitor closely the health of the ladies who work there, with weekly physicals required. Matamoros still requires that of all titty dancers. Ie a second social benefit.
Mexico is an old world country in many ways. Certainly more Europeon than the USA. And this is one of the benifits. Remember the scandle from the legitimate press when Nevada legalized prostitution in the USA. It's always been legal in Mexico. The USA prefers to ignore the world's oldest profession, and allow it, titty joints, and porno shops to invade any neighborhood. In that sense, Mexicans do a better job of protecting their children, and their neighborhoods. Matamoros use to have a red zone/boystown.
Went to Circo Friday night, not good quality. Only several girls were 7 or maybe 8. Stayed for 1 drink and left for Envidia. My friend Lulu at Circo was busy. She has a nice rack, but has definitely put on weight since I first met her about 3 years ago at Coco Bombo in Progresso (has since closed down). Slightly better atmosphere at Envidia, but not to many girls. It feels a whole lot safer there. My newest friend was not working. Damnit I forgot to get her number the last time. Will go back hunting for her in a couple of weeks. If you see her she's thick but not fat, good rack and huge eyes. I shoulda stayed home and played Black Ops.

Sounds to me like business has been a little slow in these clubs. Slow business results in average looking babes. If it's booming, you can expect hot looking babes. All the risk of going to Mex, is hurting business.

Went to Envidia and Media Luna in Matamoros 2 weeks ago. Started at Envidia, there was a fair selection of girls. They really hustle the girl drinks. I think they run about 8 pesos. I really liked 1 girl, but decided not to go upstairs since I had a question mark on how she would be upstairs, and I new if my regular at Media wasn't there I could go to TKch and would be very satisfied. Not a good selection at Media, but its usually packed with locals, and theres always somthing going on onstage with the girls or customers. Ended the night at Media very satisfied. No problems in Matamoros at all. I try to use taxis that I know just for extra safety.
Decided I didn't give a f. How the girl would treat me at Envidia, I just wanted her, so I went back Saturday. Bought her at least 4 drinks (which is still less than 2 lap dances on the US side) , went upstairs. I will be going back in 2 weeks, hopefully she'll be there. Forgot to get a number. Also went to Club Eclipse which always has the best selection of girls. I can't say I feel 100% safe in Mexico but it was very quiet. I crossed back into the US about 3 am and the streets in Matamoros were less busy than usual.
The agencys do give you more bang for the buck, but I like to drink at the clubs and see the selection of girls. There is no red zone in Matamoros that I am aware of. I had planned on going to Reynosa but heard about grenades being throne so I changed my mind. (Four more months til I go back to Thailand) Give me a holla when you go again. Do you still have my number?

My friend rented the room right across from me. I called Maxim (Girl Agency). They had 7 girls available. So they all came over. My friend was tripping. I picked a petit bomb shell with dark skin. My friend is 6ft 4, so he picked this tall lite complected girl with hazel eyes. She was at least 5ft9 or 10. I bought over a case Miller Lite. We all were drinking and then, of course, my friend left with his chic. The girls were all between 7. 10.
I like this route because of the exposure to the public. The bar seen is cool. However, the exposure to the public is greater. I am not feeling that. I need some sense of control of my surroundings. LIke Mitaban says, more bang for your buck. Less exposure to the local environment, prettier girls, and personable service = great time.

Started out in Nuevo Progresso on Saturday night. Was going to go to the 2 clubs on the main street. One is called Apocalipsis and the other was called El Senorial #2. El Senorial #2 is no longer open, unfortunate because I liked it the last time I was there. I arrived about 10:30 and there were 5 girls dancing at Apocalisis. It was very hot inside, like the ac had been off all day and they had barley turned it on. Four of the girls were 7s the other one was an 8 or 9, but she was sitting with one of her regulars I think. There were very few patrons in the place. It was me the other guy with the girl and 1 other person who was probaly with his girlfriend. I had 2 full size Coronas at 25 pesos each. Chica drinks are 10 bucks which I did not buy.
I decided to make a run for Matamoros, figured I woud arrive about 1am. Had my taxi pick me up and take me to La Media. I had asked how everything was in town. I had heard there were shootings and road closures earlier in the day. There are always a lot of people at the club, probably locals. The dj keeps the action rolling with the strippers, some customer dancing with the chicas and contest amongst the patrons. They stripped two guys on stage and had one of the dancers pretty much just give them handjobs on stage. There were about 20 girls dancing, but probably only 3 or 4 girls that were a 7 or 8 and thats probably a little genereous. Bucket of mini beers runs 60 or 70 pesos and chica drinks about 70 pesos. CBJ 520 pesos from a girl with a cute face and 34D boobs. They were the biggest ones I could find in the place. All was quiet in Matamoros between 1:30 am and 5:30 am. New club in Matamoros is also called Apocalipsis, I was told it's close to Eclipse. I will have to check it out in a week or 2. I really want to check out the scene in Nuevo Laredo. I have a 3 day weekend coming up in 2 weeks and I hope Bbond will show me around.

Guys, some members here might be curious if there is a row of cantinas in Matamoros, where you can buy snatch for about $25 or $30. Please post info, if you find such a row of cantinas in Matamoros.
I have been to the zona in Nuevo Progresso twice about 3 or 4 years ago. It is about 1 or 2 miles from the end of town and it was out in the middle of nowhere. It was like a ghost town with 1 active large building. I went early the 1st time and there were very few / no customers. I took a girl to the room and was grossed out by the room and the very large cockroaches crawling on the wall. It was very scary out there cause its not right off the main road, but you go down a bad dirt road for about 1/4-1/2 mile. It was very dark and looked like a good place to dump a body. The second time I went on a Saturday and it was packed with customers dancing with the girls. It was a very different atmosphere.
I have not asked if it's still open, maybe that's where all the action is. It is to far for locals to walk to.
Mitaban, I'm curious as to why you decided not to check out the boystown in Nuevo Progresso.

Well, I have officially moved from the area. It was a sad day. However, I am looking forward to new adventures and Hookahs. I did visit my favorite spot in Matamoros and got ripped off. This has never happened to me before. When I say ripped off, I got shorted on time. I paid for 90 minutes and I only got 60 minutes of service. The girl was a 9 out 10. She was from Maxim. I usually have good luck from this agency. I think the son or nephew was running the show that night and they were on drugs. He had 2 or 3 other young guys with him and they probably had guns. Best looking girls are at Eclipse $$. Envidia is pretty good and close to the bridge. Locals go to Media Luna, Tch and Circo- Quality not that great overall, but almost always 1 or 2 that are a 7 or 8 pretty fun bars. Or get a newspaper and a room and have them delivered. No problems lately.

Went to matamoros for other reasons.
Ended up banging 2 pretty streetwalkers.

Authorities are working to confirm the number casualties after lengthy firefight in Matamoros that stretched late into the night Tuesday.
Details were not readily available, but a Mexican law enforcement official, who asked to not be named citing security reasons, confirmed clashes between rival groups of gunmen and also the Mexican military.
According to preliminary information, the shootouts were part of a chase, during which gunmen clashed in various parts of the city after one armed group entered the area through the Sendero Nacional highway to fight another group. The convoys clashed near Cavazos Lerma Boulevard and Sexta Street, with grenades and other explosives launched.
The rolling shootout moved to other major parts of the city, including the Mariano Matamoros neighborhood and the Buena Vista neighborhood, where a wedding was taking place at a church. The wedding attendants had to seek cover because of the firefight.

Motel Parias. If you go over the Veterans Bridge in to Matamoros from Brownsville you will drive up to the 2nd light (just passed Sorianas). On the right you will see Fontana Inn. You will turn left on this street. You will go down about 2 miles and the Motel will be on the left side. The chicas at Maxim are 700 pesos.

Cabbie first took me to the 'Redhouse'.

One looked borderline doable, but I passed.
Next the cabbie took to another place without a name, but it's next to a business called Lizda's.

I paid 400 pesos, and was led a small room.

I asked for an hour, and the mamasan insisted on 100 dollars.
I tried to negotiate, but she wouldn't budge.
I was pretty desperate by this time, so I paid 1000 pesos for an hour.
I was led to a corner of the room separated by only a curtain.
While we were inside this area, I could hear the old woman mamasan chasing & yelling at the infant & dogs next to us.
The girl I was with insisted on 100 pesos to take her top off. WTF?
Afterwards, I insisted on a shower, because it was obvious these girls aren't getting any kind of medical check for diseases. I was led outside through a menagerie of canines to a room with a PVC pipe hanging from the ceiling.
That was the 'shower'.
After returning to the downtown bridge, the cabbie wanted 45 dollars for the two hours he spent with me.
It bothered me I never got to pay the girls directly. Only the mamasans take the money. I don't think the girls get much.
I tried buying the local newspaper sold at the bridge, but it didn't have any provider ads in it.
Anyway, I'm still trying to find another approach to mongering in Matamoros. Things didn't go well tonight.

Got to say coyote, it seems to me that they switched up the $$$ for services cause I have never been quoted $100 USD before. Most I've been told is $500 pesos and as for the rushing that you encountered, I guess that sucks when your doing your deed and are being rushed but I usually just give the girl another $150 pesos for another half hour or so after I've already paid 200 pesos. Honestly I would have never paid the 1000 pesos for that hour there on 10th or 11th street which is where you were. You could have called maxim or frontera (agency's) and have paid $700 pesos for an hour and a nice hotel with a shower for another $200 pesos for up to 4 hrs. And also $45 USD for a cab even if he was with you the whole 2 hrs. 45 is just way to much. As for the newspaper El Bravo is the one with phone # for agency's it's in the classified section under massages and there's like 7 or 8 agency's to choose from. So go to a hotel nicest one I've experienced so far is paraiso which is paradise it costs $200pesos for 4 hrs and then just call the # from the room and in about 30 min you will have up to 6 girls to choose from right from the comfort of your room. Also when you call the agency's try to tell them more or less how you like your girls so they can bring girls that match your taste. I personally ask for thick thighs and small tits and no complaints so far on what they've brought me so ask and you shall recieve.

In response to POKE, you go the hotel of your choice and then call the agency which will ask you where your staying. They then send girls to you, usually about 3 to 4 of them for you to choose. Some agency's send like 6 girls in a caravan to you so I guess more options is better right? More $$$ involved of course. As for which hotel it really doesn't matter as long as its not best western, holiday inn, el Hardin, or ritz hotel. Those are considered more expensive upscale hotels here in matamoros and the agency's will tell you straight up that they aren't allowed to go there. Which is funny cause best western and holiday inn are like the normal hotels in the US. Here some hotel info:

The hotels I just mentioned are the best and I say that because its very discreet and even has a garage for you car. Very nice looking rooms with a / see nice bathrooms multiple channels of porn, very clean appearance as in the rooms and bed. Black light wise, who knows right? As for price these hotels are around 150 to 300 pesos for 4 hrs. In my opinion the best one is paraiso which is on Laura villar going toward the beach. This hotel is the nicest one I've seen so far with closed garage and the room upstairs with the stairway located in the garage. It costs 250 pesos for the 4 hrs. If you want a jacuzzi in the room go to hotel la play which is also on the same street going toward the beach but about 4 miles farther than paraiso. Any more info neede just ask.

100 peso cab ride to the Paraiso from the downtown bridge. You're walled off from the outside there & dependent on the guys who work there. 280 pesos for six hours. Nice room with a garage & a big screen TV with lots of movies. The attendant asked me if I wanted chicas, but he didn't understand me when I said I wanted a small,"pequeño chica". I don't think he understood anything I said.
20 minutes later two very pretty but thick (nice face; fair body) girls show-up. I was pretty horny so I chose the less fat one-they wanted 100 dollars, and I gave them 1000 pesos for an hour. The girl provided excellent service, but thick girls aren't my fantasy.

If I took a Greyhound from SATX to Brownsville I would get to Bville at 2:30am, and it's within walking distance to the Puente Bridge nearest to International Blvd by UT Southmost College. Looking at Google Streetview it looks like there's Taxis perched, at least I hope there are at that hour.
My question is are there any decent cut rates hotels to stay the night close to the bridge and if so do you remember the crossing streets? I don't mind walking from the bridge to the Hwy 83 area where the car lot is.

In response to Spisol; During the day 10 and 11th street are safe but honestly not for a gringo walking around. I'm mexican and walk around no problem but I still get weird looks because of my ear gauges. I'm in my early 20's everyone so that's why I have holes in my ears. Just in case you started to wonder. As I was saying, a gringo with little Spanish speaking abilities walking around those streets may be a bit dangerous due to cartel presence on 10th and 11th. Yes I said cartel presence, even during the day you'll see those idiots with their sparkly be-dazzle baseball caps just hanging out with their UHF radios clipped to their belts. It may be weird but I roam these streets usually around 5 or 6 pm on weekdays because of minor cartel presence and also because you don't get rushed just like Coyote79 once mentioned / experienced. Also, it's more convenient driving around those streets cause your a bit more safer and you get to check out the scene first and then ask for prices. Personally I've been around these streets for a while now and have gotten steady quotes of 150-250 pesos from ladies on these streets. With the exception of red house which thinks their girls are the best for some reason. Red house is going for 400pesos and most of the days the girls are like 7 or 6's. Hopefully I answered some questions. So to sum it up.
Spisol: yes red house is open during the day from like 11am to 12am except Sundays. Moderately safe for a gringo DRIVING. Walking not so safe. Also the girls will get smart when they see gringos and try to overprice, especially if you don't speak Spanish well.
Pvl109: no specific recommendations for girls on these streets because we all have different tastes but I will say this. DO NOT monger these streets after dark.

·In 10th street are 2 places:
-one is between Zaragoza and Teran street (right side). They usually have from 2-4 girls, one is really cute her name is Joana (8) the other ones are 5-6. The price is 210 pesos for 20 minutes. ·In 10th street are 2 places:

As long as your car isn't too new (2006 and up) and your cars' windows aren't too tinted, you should be fine driving around matamoros.

The attendants will call an agency for you. The girls usually arrive in 30-45 minutes. They aren't always cute. Make sure to get her name and agency if you want to repeat with her. I have had anywhere from 2-5 girls show up. I'm actually going there tonight.

McALLEN — The city of Matamoros is under a virtual state of siege following two days of shootouts, blockades and panic related to ongoing infighting in the Gulf Cartel.
The shootouts began early Sunday morning and spread throughout the day, leaving at least 13 gunmen dead, Tamaulipas state officials confirmed. But that figure appears to be relatively low given the intensity of the shootouts.
On Monday afternoon, Mayor Leticia Salazar issued a statement warning the public to stay indoors because of the violence.
'At this point, based on the information provided by federal authorities, we are inclined to advise the public that violent incidents could spark throughout the city, ' Salazar said in Spanish in a prepared statement. 'Therefore we ask the public that if you are not facing any situation that forces you to leave your home to please stay indoors to avoid any situation of risk. '
Salazar's warning comes after years of virtual silence by her predecessors in Matamoros who appeared to ignore previous shootouts, refusing to comment and referring any inquiries to the Mexican military.
'Mijo, it's about time that someone got a pair of pants and spoke about what is really going on, ' Maria Hernandez, a healthcare provider in Brownsville who has relatives in Matamoros and fears for their safety, said via telephone Monday. 'For the longest time (Mexican politicians) said that nothing bad happened that it became a joke. This is a welcome change. '
It is unclear if the mayor's outspokenness is connected with her political party — the National Action Party, known as PAN. The rival Revolutionary Institutional Party, known as PRI, controlled Matamoros during the previous administration.
The Tamaulipas Autonomous University also issued a statement closing its campuses Monday and Tuesday because of the 'unforeseen circumstances. ' Classes were expected to resume Wednesday.
GULF CARTEL INFIGHTING.
Stoking this week's clashes, the Reynosa cell of the Gulf Cartel — called the Metros — lashed out at the Matamoros cell — called the Ciclones — in an effort to take over the latter's turf, said a Tamaulipas law enforcement official who asked to not be identified, citing security reasons.
The Gulf Cartel is a crime syndicate that traces its roots to the 1940s, profiting from importing and exporting prohibited goods, but it has since expanded into other criminal activities. Since 2010, the Gulf Cartel has gone through a series of internal conflicts and splits over the group's leadership and betrayals that have led to bloody armed struggles.
The two sides in the latest struggle are the Metro and Ciclones. The Ciclones are loyal to the Cárdenas family, which had led the Gulf Cartel since the early 1990s but has lost power in recent years after the arrest and deaths of key members. The Metros used to be loyal to the Cárdenas clan — including the cartel's now-imprisoned, former No. 1 man, Osiel Cárdenas Guilléand, and his late brother, Antonio Ezequiel 'Tony Tormenta' Cárdenas Guilléand. But the Metros grew upset after jailed capo Rafael 'El Junior' or '900' Cárdenas Vela was arrested in Port Isabel in 2011 and became a government witness in federal court, the Tamaulipas official said.
'You have both sides accusing the other of pointing fingers to authorities, ' the official said in Spanish.
While the official death toll as of press time Monday stood at 13 gunmen dead, the true figure is much higher, the official said, because authorities have not accounted for the clashes in the outlaying rural areas, known as ejidos.
'It's a lot worse than what it's being made out to be, ' the official said. 'What you have is convoys driving around looking out for a rival group and clashing where they meet. '
Mexican authorities also confirmed the slaying of Consuelo Garcia. 70, who was the mother of the Monica Gonzalez, the Tamaulipas state tourism and economic development secretary. Garcia's body was found with hands and feet bound inside her home in the San Francisco neighborhood of Matamoros. It was unclear whether the woman's slaying was connected to the recent wave of violence in the city.

I speak a little Spanish and am planning on spending the winter in South Texas. I'd like to spend some time in Heroica Matamoras for mongering, shopping, and dental reasons. So, how are things now? I'm an older guy and would only be crossing during daylight hours. I plan on sticking to the main streets between the bridge and the mercado and I like to walk if advisable. I do not dress flashily or wear jewelry (and don't usually get drunk and stupid). Are there options in this limited area or are taxistas, auto hotels, and escorts the best way to go? Are there any gringo friendly chica bars / strip clubs?
In response to Spisol; During the day 10 and 11th street are safe but honestly not for a gringo walking around. I'm mexican and walk around no problem but I still get weird looks because of my ear gauges. I'm in my early 20's everyone so that's why I have holes in my ears. Just in case you started to wonder. As I was saying, a gringo with little Spanish speaking abilities walking around those streets may be a bit dangerous due to cartel presence on 10th and 11th. Yes I said cartel presence, even during the day you'll see those idiots with their sparkly be-dazzle baseball caps just hanging out with their UHF radios clipped to their belts. It may be weird but I roam these streets usually around 5 or 6 pm on weekdays because of minor cartel presence and also because you don't get rushed just like Coyote79 once mentioned / experienced. Also, it's more convenient driving around those streets cause your a bit more safer and you get to check out the scene first and then ask for prices. Personally I've been around these streets for a while now and have gotten steady quotes of 150-250 pesos from ladies on these streets. With the exception of red house which thinks their girls are the best for some reason. Red house is going for 400pesos and most of the days the girls are like 7 or 6's. Hopefully I answered some questions. So to sum it up.
Spisol: yes red house is open during the day from like 11am to 12am except Sundays. Moderately safe for a gringo DRIVING. Walking not so safe. Also the girls will get smart when they see gringos and try to overprice, especially if you don't speak Spanish well.
Pvl109: no specific recommendations for girls on these streets because we all have different tastes but I will say this. DO NOT monger these streets after dark.

Just so everyone knows the "presidenta" of Matamoros, Letticia Salazar, is the person that closed down the clubs. By law she closed them down because of unpaid taxes by the clubs. But word on the street is that she's under control by a non local cartel that wants to control things instead of the local cartel. Remember everyone all this info is what's being said out on the streets and therefore unconfirmed. With the exception of clubs being closed for tax reasons. This sucks for everyone because she closed almost every dance clubs, karaoke bars, bars, strip clubs, etc. So far no word on when all clubs will be back open and many say that it won't be soon. Also all door girls on 10th and 11th street are gone as well. Outcalls are still ongoing.

I crossed the border, took a taxi straight to paraiso. 110 pesos taxi fare as usual. It was about 9 pm and 3 girls showed up. I tried a different motel this time by name martes. 150 pesos for 4 hours. Rooms are run down, unclean and not good. I guess I will stick to paraiso.
