I'm on my second trip to Porto Alegre. It's getting to be one of my favorite places, as far as punting. Despite being a port city, the nearest beaches on the Atlantic are 3 hour by bus. So, it's not a beach culture and the weather is cooler most of the year. It is the birthplace of many of Brazil's supermodels, popular novela actresses and porn-star turned celebrity, Andressa Urach. Thus, it has a reputation among Brazilians of possessing the most beautiful women in Brazil (though it doesn't. That distinction goes to Curitiba.) Still, in spite of the over-hype, you can see the gene pool in the local women that would produce some of Brazil's most famous beauties. In SP, the "Gauchas" often are amongst the most expensive GPS, touting their origin like its a superior pedigree. However, these same women are basically what' on the menu here, With average rates for service being 100 for 30 minutes, 150 -200 for an hour. Of course, there are more expensive girls, but overall it's quite a bargain.

Most of the cities prives are located in or near the Centro Historico, where I always stay. Rates in the prives in March of 2024 are pretty much the same - 100 for 30 minutes and 200 for an hour, though all the women I've encountered offer anal for 50 extra. Despite the low price point the women have so been lovely. Also note that many of the girls advertised in GP Guia, Skokka, Fatal Model actually work in the prives.

I won't go and try to list everything, as it appears the prives are prone to change on a regular basis. For up to date prices, address and details of specific girls, GP Guia is pretty good. If you have a problem with details in Portuguese, Brazil is not for you.

That said, more people speak English, indeed the want to speak English with a native speaker, than any other city in Brazil that I've been to. I actually made friends here during last visit in December and they remembered me when I showed up at the neighborhood bar. They enjoy speaking in both English and Portuguese. Americans are rare down here, so it gets me more social currency.

Note that the 3 southernmost states in Brazil are statistically the best educated and it shows in their language skills. These are also the most politically conservative states, as well, but also the most tolerant towards gays. Thus, you will see a lot of dykes and trannies on the streets. They are much more obvious here than in Sao Paulo, where they strut their stuff and act out on Avenida Paulista, because they would have trouble doing it in their own neighborhoods.

As for the town itself, Porta Alegre is a large sprawling and industrialized port town. Lots of factories here, and it does attract people from the poorer parts of the country. Thus, it is not the "whitest" city in Southern Brazil. But, overall the population looks nothing like Sao Paulo and all points north of that. Unlike Curitiba and Florianopolis, I have been warned about safety in the city at night. There are plenty of "mendigos" on the streets, and while they are not as obnoxious as those in Rio or SP, they have a tendency to be persistent about their begging. A notable area where it is supposed to be safe 24/7 is the affluent Northern Zone. But, you do have to be careful displaying your phone on the streets when you are in the center.

Sao Geraldo, an industrial neighborhood to the north of the center is also a center for independent GP-s. I've been there twice and both girls had apartments off of Rua Sao Pedro, which is conveniently accessed from the Sao Pedro station (PA has one mass transit rail line that runs along the riverside.) The last girl I visited warned me that the neighborhood was not a safe area at night, due to all the homeless on the street. But, if you are ubering to the door and back, it shouldn't be a problem during the late hours. I always went during the daytime when the neighborhood was mostly just working men going about their business.
