I have been to Cali once and my feelings were exactly the same. Actually I had planned to be their for like 4 days but I gave up in 3 days. IMHO, although Medellin can run a bit more expensive but their is no place like it.
I don't mind paying the extras money for so much more comfort in Medellin. In my trip I had visited Bar la Viente as well and I could not get my self to fuck any of those girls. They were just a bit older and a bit fatter for my taste. Next I had also been to a very upscale club in Cali according to Cali standards anyways but then again I did not pick any girls from their either. The girls at the hight end club was asking too much money for what they were offering and for the looks of them.
Anyways. I love the city of eternal spring and have returned to that city for all my mongering trips.

First of all, thanks a lot to BayBoy and WT69 for the info about Cali. I arrived at the airport last Friday, around 1pm. It was a fairly small airport. It needs an escalator, though. After I checked in at my hotel, I walked 2 blocks to the Ave. Sexta. While I had expected a wide, trendy boulevard, the Ave. Sexta was a mediocre street.
Around 7pm, I arrived at 'Bar La 20 (veinte). ' It was a seedy neighborhood, but the bar was a decent place. There were 2 security guards in front of the door, checking customers' bodies. Later they became friendly to me and asked many questions about me. The place was very big with a lot of ceiling fans. The place was packed. There were probably more than 100 guys and 40-50 girls. They had a strip dance and live band music alternating every 30-40 minutes. A bottle of beer was 2. 5k pesos. All the girls, except one, had big asses, and many of them were fat (in Medellin standards). But, they may not look fat in the eyes of Cali locals. The locals and the girls at the bar came and taked to me, and they were very friendly. Two guys bought me a beer. I stayed at the bar for an hour, and left for Club Sonero, which was a block away.
A friendly security guard at Club Sonero welcomed me. As I entered Sonero, I saw only 3-5 girls and a few guys. So, I left Sonero and went back to La 20. In La 20, 20-30 girls came to me and offered a service. One of them was the girl, who was not fat (later she told me that she was a paisa from Medellin). What I like about Cali is, if I get a hotel room in the Ave. Sexta area, I can walk to everything I want to do. Casas, bars, clubs, restaurants, shopping etc. I prefer that.
As far as bar La Veinte goes, so the chicas are a little fat, that doesn't bother me. Isn't that the saying about Medellin chicas. I like them with big tits and bubble asses. And I prefer maduras also. Looks arent the most important thing to me.

Hey BadBoy, I partly agree with you in that in Medellin, half the chicas in a similar nightclub setting would've been prettier looking than the ones at the Cali nightclub you were in. But here's the rub: try hooking-up with one of 'them. The Paisas know they are hot and pretty and in demand (especially by the overpaying gringos, mafiosos and other foreigners that frequent their town) so they will make you jump through endless hoops, give you the run-around, play head games with you until no more avail, separate you from your cash along the process, and at the end of the night (or nights) not put out to boot! I have been saying this for some time now. If in Sex Prison one finds a similar type of situation going on, then why go to another place where things function almost just as identical? Doesn't it kind of defeats the purpose of travelling there to begin with? And it's not as if Colombia, and particularly Medellin, have become any cheaper for us, USA visitors. If I can land a sweet and down-to-earth chica in any other city in Colombia (or elsewhere, for that matter) who could even be a 6, for me (as I only speak for myself here) that is far better than a 0 in Sex Prison. That's a multi-fold gain there in and of itself. Dunno, it seems to me that there are definitely better options and choices to be had.

When I was last in MDE, it was common for Paisas to charge upwards of 200, 000 COP while the very same ones could've been had in Cucuta or in Bucaramanga for 50, 000 COP. People in Medellin are also very racist, especially in the southern, better parts of town and like New Yorkers (no offense to any here) they also believe to be the center of the universe with the mentality of having a city that is larger than life (according to Colombian standards). So if you're not Anglo and / or rich (as I'm not) then MDE might not be the better choice and if Cali is too dangerous (which it might be) then I would definitely suggest heading out to other parts of the country. Are you kidding me? With so many other cool spots to hit up why limit yourselves to Cali and Medellin? Go and check out the Santanderes, El Cesar, Los Llanos. Dude, come on! And no shortage of pleasant, brown, mestiza, non-European looking girls either. If you want true European looking girls, then why not head down to Argentina or Brazil instead? New Night spots to me – around autopisto sur and cra 39, cra 44, and cra 50 there were nightclubs overflowing with women. Ask a taxi driver from that area where they are because they’re not very easy to find. Everything was cheap. I believe 40 mil for 30 minutes. Some women were ok. Very festive atmosphere when I went (Sat night). If you want a fun night for 100 mil total or less, these are good places to go.

Thats why I take as few cabs as possible.

I went to Plazade Caicedo two times, but did not recognize any SWs. It is great to walk from Caicedo to Plaza San Francisco. I like that area.
I took taxis 5 times in my last trip here. One was honest and charged the right fare. The other 4 tried to overcharge me. Either taking the long way to the destination or accidentally on purpose leaving the meter off. One guy actually went about 10 blocks out of his way to run up the tab. Thats why I take as few cabs as possible.

I went to Bar La 20, which has a part A and B, one across the street from the other. Heading to there from the square, I saw another dingy looking place that opened later in the day. Late in the afternoon, when I was done with BL20, I went to check it out but the quality of chicas was pretty low. Was in the area early, so I walked around a bit. Going to the left of the corner after BL20, I saw nothing much. Then, when I was walking back later to BL20, I saw a security guard posted in this no-name corner near BL20, maybe on street 21 or 22. I went in for a look and the quality of the chicas were average to below average with 1 or 2 above average. Didn`t do anything there, since the 2 above average ones kinda just sat there, disinterested.

I was there sitting for a while. There were 2 chicas that caught my eye. I tried to make eye contact with both (one at a time, of course) , but they didn`t respond. I've gone up Carrera 8 from 19th to 16th, there's 4-5 short time hotels with chicas standing out front. I found them to be scrufty, down and dirty, but safe inside. Around the corner from Club Sonero on 19th theres a short time hotel with usually 4-5 black chicas out front. Never tried the place. Give those places a try. I'll be there in 2 weeks.

He is a cool laid back hippie who works and maintains his daughter and wife.
He even grows weed plants. Nice guy! Speaks only spanish. 2k for a nice rolled cigerrette.
Will introduce you to all the ladies you ever need. Non pros just looking to meet guys etc.
The hotel is family owned and are friendly towards your business. Only they don't like smoking in the rooms. So you can smoke on the terrace or in the bathroom out the window.
Rooms are antique looking and great.
Nice old school tvs comfy beds etc carpets etc.
I tipped the maid daily 3k. 4 k pesos. Then started to give her $10k a week.
She is sweet lady who goes a long way for you, trust me!
*safe neighborhood*I walked everyday to el centro of Cali and alot of nice looking business woman along the way. They opened a dunkin donuts close to the hotel.
Right outside the hotel is a 24 hour panaderia bakery that serves locals and tourists alike and they have two sweet asses I wanted to bang but I got my wifey next to me everyday LOL.

That hotel is in the San Antonio section of Cali, which is Casco Antiguo (old town) area off El Centro. It sounds like a hostal but I don't know for sure.

I've been there.
Good value but area is a bit dodgy at night. Lots of homeless immediately across the street and even on the same side.
Walking distance to Hotel Intercontinental and the rest of he north, just on other side of the river
Wouldn't recommend it to people who can't blend in amongst Colombians.
Hot water is iffy.
Terrace is nice though and the cleaning lady is very sweet.
Front desk staff were very nice as well.
I'd say if you arent comfy in Centro Medellin at night, this place is not for you.
If you do stay there, the weekend bbq guy to the right on the overpass makes great chorizo de res for only 2k. Not to be confused with the weekday bbqer on the same overpass.
The guys daughter is sexy as fuck too.
Downisde is not too many walkable food options at night within walking distance other than them, another street bbq spot down to the left, and a pizza spot across the street.
Plus the 24 hour pandaria mentioned previous but I seems like they make their lunch & dinner plates in the am and they just sit around all day.
The bbq cart outside was ok, but I got turned off by the pre-cooked burger patties sitting unrefridgerated in the drawer of the rubbermaid-type thingee.
La20 is 15 min walk, safe during the day but take a cab a nigh
I made a wrong turn down Carrera 7 and guess what, I found numerous short time hotels with at 4 chicas standing out front. Between 15th and 16th there were 3 hotels, mostly black chicas in front, one with all latinas. I went 2 blocks down and found another short timer, then I turned right on 19th Street and there was another one near the corner.
These gals didn't look all that great, but one only asked 15K which I thought was about right for the area.
I{ll probably stay with my favorites on Carrera 8 namely Gloria and Lorena, Lorena is a sweetheart with a great personality and real friendly.

Only go there if you know a girl that lives there and can keep an eye on you. Not a place for a foreigner to be running around by himself looking for black girls. Not safe.
Cali is a good bet. Much more black girls in the south of the city though. Just depends how you plan on meeting them.
I would suggest the Cali Plaza hotel ($65). US owned, close to Ave. Sexta. Or Hotel Nevada ($30-40) about a block away, budget, small rooms, no English spoken.

Wouldn't advise going to Choco (state where Buenaventura is). It will take you a few days to get there from Cali. It's a VERY underdeveloped area. Sort of the forgotten

I would suggest the Cali Plaza hotel ($65). US owned, close to Ave. Sexta. Or Hotel Nevada ($30-40) about a block away, budget, small rooms, no English spoken.

Mall. Place to go at night? Avenida 6, but only on weekends. Do you speak Spanish? Do not expect to just pick up Colombianas if you go out partying. They go out in groups of friends, not alone like North Americans. They will dance with you a few minutes then they will go back to their group. Someone PMed me a couple of days ago saying they will spend 12 days in Cali. I told them good luck. 2 days (3 max) is about all I can put up with and that includes hanging out with regular girlfriends and not hookers. With 12 days I would recommend doing a full tour of Colombia hitting all of the hot spots.

My general rule for Latin and South America is that I don't bring chicas to my room. I've been robbed in Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires before, fortunately nothing major. I just feel like I can't turn my back on some of these chicas.
Hotel Cali Plaza (3 Star) is $65 a night. I'd give it a so-so grade, there's good and bad about the place. Hotel Plaza Versailles (3 1/2 Star) is $90 a night, somewhat better place and location for the money.

They were all fine for me. I never had any trouble bring guests to my room. I don't remember the exact price, but it was low, like less than 100k pesos for a simple room. Breakfast is good. Rooftop pool is fun. Full of people on business and families. Not much English spoken here. A block or two from Clinica Dr Amor.
Probably more expensive in December because everyone travels for Christmas. You should just call them and ask for your dates.

Thank you for all the advice here. I ended up staying at the Spiwak hotel attached to the mall. The hotel is a true 5 star with huge modern rooms, wifi, bar, food and high end eye candy all around. They had a small convention at the hotel and it looked like a fashion show. Not bad value for $140 US, including breakfast.
I went there Thursday afternoon. My first stop in Cali. They had 50 girls or so. I only liked one or two. The city seemed expansive and has a rough edge to it. I missed some of the high-end neighborhoods that I am used to seeing in MDE and BOGOTA. Even the areas with bars and restaurants did not have the liveliness. Also, I discovered that my personal taste has strong bias against the body type of the Calienas (sp?). I prefer Paisa flakas that are all natural.
The taxi situation in Cali is interesting. Identical to warnings from other posters on this forum, the hotel strongly discouraged us taking cabs off the street. That certainly is a negative in my mind.
In the evening, my first stop is at Flores Frescas. Sad to report there are only 6 flowers there and none being even close to being fresh and pricelist is so expensive that is laughable. Well whiskey is 25, 000! I had one and I witnessed 4 other 'tourists' doing it too. I asked them to call a cab and they would not want to do it. They said, they will call but why don't I wait till I watch a few dances. Clearly they did not want 20% of their clientele walk out the door. In any other city, I would have walked out and hailed one myself but here, I am in a bit of a predicament. Just then, the cabbie that dropped me off walks in check on to see how things are going. He said he remembered me saying that if I don't like this place I will go to club Escosses and he waited. I hugged him and bailed out of there. His name is Elvis. He turned out to be an awesome guy and one of the best taxi drivers I ever met during my travels. He shared a lot about Cali and a bit of his personal stuff. When asked about eating local cuisine, he took us to a great restaurant that is around the corner from inter continental and the food there was undoubtedly the best on this trip.
Next stop is club Escosses, supposedly the oldest club in town. This place had a much better vibe. It was a party with good music and the intimacy of this place lends itself to a high energy atmosphere. Unfortunately though, I was either not drunk enough or the girls are not that attractive. I almost called it a night but decided to try the third place on my list; Dinas. It was a bit out of the way but said what the heck and went. The place is more like a dive bar with decent music and bunch of tables. No stage or floor space for dancing. Interestingly I saw two girls that were in the parade that morning at Clinica. I did not like them then and the booze did not change my mind either. Finished my drink and left the bar to walk out. Thank you for your helpBoth Cali and MDE are generally less expensive than Cartagena. Cartagena is a tourist town and has tourist prices. Having said that, you can get laid in both places for 30K or 200K. It all depends on the venue.
MDE in general is a much easier place to monger than Cali. MDE is also a prettier city. I would describe Cali as a bit dreary. Not the prettiest city, though.
There are some small areas like Granada and El Penon that are pretty nice. OTOH if you have the time and energy to look for non-pros, Cali is better.

I always stay on Avenida 6. I usually go out to check the street walkers but usually they don't look good enough to deal with. It looks like things are changing because there were some decent ones today. I went out about 9:30 to eat. When I finished I walked down the block to check out the SWs. In most major cities in Colombia the supply side (girls) is so high that you might occasionally run into a hottie that is just starting in the business and she is likely to start in a low priced casa. If she is truly hot and in demand, she will soon move out of there into higher priced markets within that city or go out of the country. I found this to be especially true re Cali. Some of the hottest and sweetest Colombians I have been with with are from Cali or surrounding small towns and incidentally I have met them all outside Cali, such as Panama, Costa rica, Medellin, Bogota, Cartagena and Saint Martin.
With that experience, I must have had high expectations when I went to Cali but I was sorely disappointed with the local talent.
Don't get me wrong. You might and probably will still have a great time in Cali but you need to set your expectations right. In my opinion, what happens in town's like MDE and Bogota is that the girls have some high-end outlet options where they can actually make good/decent money that keeps the talent in the cities rather than preferentially exporting them. The local market in Cali does not seem to support high-end talent.
When I travel to Latin America for mongering, I'm already spending couple of thousand dollars in traveling costs and thousands of miles to get there. The last thing I do is look for a $14. 50 deal. If you find one, that is great but what I care is value. For those who know, this big difference between getting something for cheap and finding a value. Like warren Buffet says, don't buy a cheap stock. Buy a value stock. To me, latinas provide the best value of any other girls in the world. The combination of beauty, friendliness, passion for life, dance, song, music and sex is unbeatable. For me I would rather spend $100 to $300 if needed (I draw the line too :-D), and spend an evening with a beautiful girl who I can remember and dream about for the next few weeks rather than bang a chic for 10 minutes and not even remember her face the next day.

BBMy 2 favorites in Cali are Bar La 20 and Clinica Dr. Amor. Avenida Sexta on the North side is a good place to hang out, lots of bars and discos. Also on Ave. 9 has a lot of restaurants.
There is a 'Cali List' on the Colombia site, look on page 2.
Medellin has more action spots and sexo places to go to than Cali.
Take the bus to Popayan, its about 2-3 hr. Trip from Cali. The 'White City' has a completely restored old town, nice place to walk around.

Beaches are far and can be reached either by car (or better by motorbike) or by boat. The City is neverless poor and in bad shape. I know only one mall (Brisa Plaza) which cannot be compared to any mall you have in Cali. Close to Buenaventura there is the " bajo calima" region hardly controlled by public forces, a center of cocaine procesing. As far as the population is concerned there is probably a majority of colored people. If you do not speak decent Spanish I consider the place as dangerous: You really need to communicate with reliable locals where to go and where to stay away. No idea about P2P in this city but of course there is. It is a port after all. But I believe that the high standard ladies migrated to Cali anyway. Will post some photos seperatly. First need to downsize.

I would advice against renting from this guy. I rented an apartment from him a year ago and he did the "bait-and-switch" with me. Told me it was a great place right at Chipichapi- the pictures he sent me looked great. When I arrive, he said that place is rented. Instead, he had an alternative. Unfortunately, this place was pretty much in the middle of nowhere. I would have told him to fuck off, but I had already given him a decent deposit and I was tired from from flight and wanted to get settled. The apartment sucked. It was way north of town, near basically nothing, no places to eat, drink, cafes, chicas. In retrospect, I should have just eaten my deposit and stayed elsewhere.
Lo and behold, during my stay in Cali, I run into another tourist who had the exact same thing happen to him with Art

Upon arriving at the residential unit "right next to Chipichape", as in a good 15 minutes walk, Los Patios De La Flora, he told me that the unit I was supposed to live in was rented out, but that he just happened to have another unit available same place but in a different building (torre) , only it cost 400. 000 more than the other one. So there I am, 20 hours and 2 connecting flights later, first time in Colombia at 10 pm. It's pitch dark, no back-up plan and I already sent a deposit. So I decided to take it simply because I just wanted to get settled and in all fairness the apartment was actually quite nice. I did, however, vow never to rent from him again and later found a Colombian owned company from which I have since rented. Slightly lower prices and super efficient service, always polite and friendly. My impression of Arthur, well let's just say he's not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed. Nuff said.
The apartments he supposedly have, that are not on his web site and that I am aware of, are apartments he rents from other rental companies, and guess who pays that premium for the extra middleman.

I usually do 1/2 and 1/2 ie one night go out solo and the next night invite girls out.
When I go out solo, there are a few methods for infaltrating groups and / or talking to girls.
1) Outside / in the street ask some girls where the best place to go is. If they are interested in you and find out your alone sometimes they will invite you with their group. Can do this with guys also but I wouldn't count on them inviting you along.
2) While in the disco, make convo with some guys of a mixed group and maybe buy him a beer. If you are cool ect they will sometimes invite you in their group and introduce you to the ladies.
3) Ask girls to dance that you can clearly see are in a mix set that don't have a bf.
4) Intercept girls when they leave the group to go to the bathroom, bar, or dance floor.

It is not hard to ask a local to break down the nightlife scene. Nor is it hard to read some forums and sites to find out the main spots. And in Cali they are La Sexta, Menga, Granada, and Jaunchitos. There are is also a few places that a isolated in the city as well.
