Luckily I've only used him once on beach for beers, chairs etc and was overpriced.

If you haven't already, type "dann" into the search function here within this thread and you will have quick access to every post that mentions the Hotel Dann in Cartagena.
I did just that and in 5 minutes had scanned dozens of posts. Appears from older posts that it's chica friendly, but with a "fee".
There's a reason that the vast majority of guys who frequent Cartagena stay in an apartment instead of a hotel. It's cheaper, more spacious, better value, better equipped/more luxurious, less hassle, chica friendly without a guest fee, etc. If any of those things appeal to you, you may want to re-consider and rent an apartment from Juan or Mery, etc.

Anyway - I followed your advise and got an apartment.
Juan has nice apartments, and Mery is out of commission for a little while, she got run over a few days ago by a car and is in the hospital, with some fractures, she will make it, but she is going to be out of commission for a while.
Hotels in Cartagena, are too expensive, and the rooms are small.
You can get a decent apartment from Juan for around $ 65-70 a night.

First question for a prospective monger in Colombia is "How good is your Spanish? " I think Cartagena may be the best city for a non-spanish speaker (lots of tourists there w/o any Spanish) That being said, I would still go to Medellin as I think it's the best all-around city for P4P. (don't flame me all you Cali lovers, LOL) I'd recommend staying at the Mansion also so you have lots of wingmen to show you the best spots (sorry, meant the Mansion's new name, Casablanca).
As far as being an older guy, I'm 52 and have been to AC and IMHO the Philippines (or Pattaya) are much better for long term GFE than Colombia. The Colombian putas will not outright turn you down but don't except extended sessions like a 30 y/o guy might get. And don't except 1300 PI pesos for longtime like in AC. Read the reports of distinction for Medellin and Cartegena though and make up your own mind.
Colombia is a long way from AC but I think it's well worth the time and money. Although I love S. E. A. I need some variety. Colombia has classic Latina chicas, black and also Euro looking girls. Enjoy.

Hi everyone, Was my first time at CTG.
I stayed at the Hilton. (girl friendly with a charge for most people)., but made good friends with one of the front desk guys and waived the girl fee all my nights. Its a 30.00 USD fee per day if you bring a girl. However, you can bring back company there are no issues. (She needs to have an ID though, they hold at the front desk to make sure you are safe, when she leaves)

Taxi's, I think are very affordable.
Conversion rate
- is better at Bank's (Bancolombia was over 1920 as opposed to hotel 1700. For 1 dollar) But I mainly used ATM anyways for there currency.
I used the list given by WT69 and most was extremely accurate. All the drivers posts and names where either not reachable or disconnected. But to be honest you don't need them anyways.
Taxis at the Hilton hotel charge the same prices as other taxis, unlike other cities. Where hotel taxis charge more. Its safer actually to use taxis from the hotel due to the fact they are there every day and its easier if you lose something inside.
Clubs Visited.
La Dulce Vita- Opens around 10-11pm. My advice is going at around 11:30pm. Walk inside look around to see if theres something, and then go out side and watch the girls coming in. The reason is that the light inside is horrible. You really need to get super close to see them. Also, the music is so loud that you can't hear well. Its nice to see what your approaching, so thats why I gave that suggestion. Time does make a difference. It doesn't get full until after 12:15-12:30am. Well at least on my days of visits. I talked to few there and took out 2 on different days. Prices range from 300,000 to 150,000 (2 hours). But I didn't pay more than 150,000. Negociations were pretty easy. Each night the quantity of women ranged for 20 to 40 women Qty. The club is upstairs next to a small casino called la perla. (the casino has a 1-2 and 5-10 game of holdem) if anyone likes to play. The women as for looks were nice, I wouldn't say there are any 10's. But there was a few 10 body's. I took out a girl named Sara the first night (from MDE) She had 8 face, 9 Body, and 10 in BED. Also GFE. Which for me is more important than most things. Some how took her cell number down wrong, and didn't get to see her again. Of all the clubs, this is probably my favorite.
Positives- easy to negociate. I prefer off site anyways, most popular place for the girls to show.
Negatives- Hours of operation, doesn't get started till super late, Loud, Dark, and a bit hard to find. But you find it once, then your good for the future.
Pleyboy Club (strip club) around 15 girls here when I visited
The prices were much higher here, and firmer. I want to say it was 240,000 for only 30 Minutes. Girls, were ok. No 10s there either. Maybe a a couple 9s. Girls were a bit colder here to me. But not rude. Anyways, chose not to pick up here or get phone numbers. But, I always recommend trying to get her number and working out a deal outside the club. (Its very common to do). THere are rooms at the club for on site action. But expensive as mentioned above. This place is even darker inside than LDV. Another negative. Well, worth visiting, I'm sure there are some more talent than what I saw. No Cover Charge in any of the Clubs I visited.
Liquezos Club (around 15 Girls Here when I visited)
No 9s or 10s, But a couple 8s. The talent level down a bit here. But then the prices as well. I want to say 150, 000 per hour. At the Entrance alot of light, nice to see the girls. I asked the friendliest girl for her phone number and made appointment for next day. She really liked me, we hung out the next day, and didn't even charge me anything. I just paid her cab ride. Which was like 6 dollars. This place has also the option of on premise or off premise. All the girls who work there live there, from what she told me.
After that I went to
Casa del Marino (A little far) But if you visit all 3 clubs its like doing a domino line. 5-7 minute drives one after the other.
I really liked the setup of the bar, the women were different. Singing, and pretty laid back. This place would be nice if closer to town and with more girls. I arrived around 12:00 am, like 9 girls there. No 9s or 10s, a couple 8s again. Anyways. Id say worth a visit. Maybe find a gem.
Isis Club (Pretty close to the Hard Rock Cafe in the Centro)
I liked this place, Small club. But always 10 girls+ starting early around 9:30 to 10 pm. The girls are shuttled over from some appartment building. Anyways, don't be afraid to negociate. She started at 260,000 for 2 Hours, Ended up at 160, 000 for 2 hours at my hotel. Same girls every nite. So security wise is good for customer. No freelancers. I like being able to pick up early and have my choice.
La Mission Club,
Didn't find this place until the last day. Nice inside, but I got there to early, only 2 girls here at the time. I'm sure it gets good later (I arrrived at 10pm) I'm sure 11pm would of been better. Also close to ISIS. Ask the police they tell you how to get to the club.
Personel Observations of Cartagena
- Centro is very nice area. For walking, shopping, dining, and Bars.
- Very Safe City, Police every where. And not tring to steal from you like in Costa Rica, or Mexico.
- Cartagena Women are darker skin, close to Dominican looking. However, most of the girls I took out were from Medellin. I prefer the lighter skin.
- Colombian women are easy to talk too. I think I picked up 3 girls just from walking around town.
- Casinos are very small and a joke compared to anything I'm used too.
- The beaches are a joke in CTG, its like dirt bike racing sand on the beaches. Ugly. But you can take a ferry to nice beaches.
- People very friendly, and speaking spanish is extremely helpful. Not sure how a gringo could do. But I think you can manage.
- Also, good city to take a girl friend., the archtecture is beautiful.
- I probably won't return, but I enjoyed Cartagena, Prefer Costa Rica, Quantity and Quality better. But CTG much safer than San Jose, and can see why it would appeal to many mongers. However, not enough pretty girls in the city for me.

I'm not saying you can't do cheaper than that for this level of beauty but don't expect too much on it.
There are exceptions of course like I've just had one a few days ago, I've had a TLN for 150'000 COP from a girl who is an extremely sexy and beautiful model (I saw her in a call girl catalog) and she usually goes for 800'000 COP an hour. thanks to all for your advice and accepting my intrusion onto your board. primarily what i take away from your advice, is that unless one either lives in colombia or a very frequent visitor having built friends, then getting beauties is either very expensive, even for a short time, and/or requires one to have a friend to guide him. so not as easy or cheap as in angeles. but aside from the **** question that arose, the mansion seems to be recommended as a good place to start one's first trip, as the staff are keen to guide a newbie on their journey. through the photo's section, i see frequent posting from the mansion (and think there is another one of similar facilities), and if the guy is as cool as he appears, think i will start there.

I never have staid in any of the 2 places but I have been visiting them. I can tell you Greg always ask for cedulas, is the first rule to get in the hose for ALL girls. Let's get back to reporting on Cartagena. Here is what I consider a good report. Apartments, food, non pros. Any ideas?
I'm leaving in the morning in about 3 hours! I can't sleep, this is going to suck. A day of traveling with no sleep.I was there back in Oct for halloween and had a great time. People can really party like no other. For some nonpro bars check out Tu Candela and BaBar. For some pros that you can pick up at a bar, it's like shooting fish in a barrel. Electra. For beaches, take a date to playa blanca for the day. If you can spend a night over in Santa marta do it! As for food their fish is pretty good and so are their steaks. Cartagena is cool and has great parts. Just watch out for the vendors on the beach of bocagrande like the massage girls, they cannot take no for an answer and it gets annoying! Just be firm with them. Have fun and happy hunting brotha! Make sure to take pics and a full report when you get back.
If you consider 16/17 legal thats up to you. I didn't feel confterable. Just me thats all. I don't scout at High Schools.

jackson, i think you should delete some of the posts below. on most boards i've been on, the policy is... if you have serious allegations against someone, you need to provide proof to admin. simple.. most of the time, they can't provide it.
greg has a lot of enemies. he just rubs some people the wrong way. i don't know the agenda of some of these guys. i also really don't even know how you can say "for a fact" a girl is **** if you haven't seen their cedula. if they're ****, they probably don't have a cedula in the first place. some girls from the poorer barrios don't even have cedulas and they are of age. i've been to the mansion once and they were very strict about checking cedulas.

i didn't intend to support anyone's attack on greg or anyone else for that matter.
i did not see the cedulas of the girls greg and roberto were with that night.
they were not in the mansion. the facts were simply this: about 4 years ago friend of mine and i caught up with greg and roberto at mangos, we sat down with them and 3 lovely young things. greg told me that both he and roberto had girlfriends but these 3 were part of his "private stock" whatever then means. i danced will all 3 girls and 1 began to come on to me. this prompted roberto to pull me aside. he said that the girl was clearly into me and that i should go for it. i responded by saying that they looked young, how old are they? roberto told me that they were 17. i asked how he got them in if you had to be 18 to get into mangos. he said he pays some employees to let them in thru the back. i took roberto as he was being honest and made the decision to back off. i didn't explain to the girl so she got indignant and left.
it was greg that mentioned to me that legal age in colombia is 16 and that certain guys need to "get over it. " i assume that as residents of colombia, this should make greg and roberto subject to colombian laws. we are still subject to the laws of our country, which in most of our cases is 18.
so there it is. what happened above are the only "facts" that i have to offer.
i did not see cedulas. greg and roberto were not with this girls in any way that music drinking and dancing while i was there, and they did not talk much about **** girls nor encourage the persuit of them. they only responded to my comments. again, i'm no expert, i do not stay at the mansion and am not suggesting anything other than this was my personal experiance.

MMIMHO Christmas is the worst time to go unless you want to pay double or triple the normal rates.I usually go three times a year,April,July and November.I have found April to be the best for me as it is not too crowded and the weather is usually nice.Oct and November I have seen constant rain and July can be awesome hot.Always have a good time though anytime I go!

As Mule mentioned below, Dec 15. Jan 15 is a time of year I wouldn't go for mongering. Oct. Nov is the rainy season, but I've gone those times of year and had fun. Most anytime other than that is pretty much a good time of year. I've been in Cartagena at one time or another in every month except December and can candidly say that the number of chicas bonitas eager to meet has been sufficient each and every time.
As far as enterprising Colombiana tourists, a fella can run into those most anytime in Cartagena, but a little more so during times that coincide with their vacation. Such as, when University breaks for most of July, or one of the many 3-day holiday weekends (they have a boatload of holidays in Colombia that are observed on a Monday).
That being said, you can run into chicas visiting Cartagena for the weekend, the week, the month, etc., in any of the months without there being a 3-day holiday weekend or break from University. I'd just wouldn't do Dec. 15. Jan. 15, unless you want to spend time doing the family-gathering thing.

I can't recommend a local guide, but I will pass along the following.
If "good girls" means good-looking, sexy and fun who give GFE, you really don't need a guide in Cartagena, especially if you speak a little Spanish. In addition to going to the places talked about here in this forum, just speak to another monger when you're down there and ask him for some information.
Many enjoy helping a fellow monger out by providing information, insight, etc. It's giving back, because we all were there for our first time at one point and typically received information from a guy who blazed that trail before us.
Check out World Travel's list for places with chicas and visit a few of those, check out Playa Hollywood in the afternoon, go to the late night discos that cater to prepagos, etc.
The best guide will most likely come from befriending another monger who is down there that week, combined with reading back through the last 2-3 years worth of posts in this forum and exchanging information through pm's with other members herewithin. There really is a wealth information contained in this threads posts if one spends a couple of hours to go back through them from say 2007 forward.

Chapter 2. Cartagena 01-04 February 2010
Arrived on the afternoon of 01 Fenruary with other colleagues. After checking into the Hilton Cartagena, and doing the preliminaries unpacking, eating, etc. Decide to hit my favorite spot La Dulce Vita (LDV) in search of some sexy female compania. Yes, it's a good place for mongers be they African american, Appalachian American, Cajun American or non-american. If you'd like to know whether the chicas will spread their wings of love or shake their money maker regardless of skin pigmentation, the answer is yes. Pale or dark skin pigmentation, the chicas will gravitate more to a guy who is well-groomed, personable, easy-to-smile, makes eye contact and speaks a little Spanish. And lastly is willing to share some pesos.
Might you come across an instance or notice something that reminds an American of the Jim Crow days? Yes, but the attitude we've always taken is that it's better to be denied entry or refused service in a place as opposed to being fleeced of our money when they didn't like us being there in the first place. Better to know upfront about a particular establishment or person, 'cause I'd rather not patronize their business with my hard-earned money if their ignorance is a problem.

I was in Cartagena last week. I paid 8, 000 for cabana and 2 chairs or 12, 000 for cabana and lay down chairs. Aguillas were 2, 500 Clubs 3, 000.
As far as girls, I was only with one prepago all week. She demanded 200, 000 to start with, I said 150, 000 she said ok but only short time, I said no go. She ended up spending the night for 150, 000.
I saw her numerous times during the week for an undiscussed 100, 0000 in her purse when she was leaving. However this would only be after spending the entire day and night with me. For my taste she was pretty much the hottest girl I saw all week didn't look like a pro and we had great chemistry together.
Also hooked up with a couple of cute non pros, but when you are only there for a short time it becomes too much of a headache dealing with some of these girl's drama and schedules. If I were there longer I would have pursued that route more.
As far as apartments, I stayed in Torre del Lago for a few days. This building looks beautiful but I have been in 3 apartments in the building all had significant mold issues and were very poorly maintained for brand new apartments. I paid 200, 000 for a 2 bed 2 bath. The apartments I have been in Mirador del Laguito are much better maintained and the pool is excellent.
In the end the rental agency plays a big part. The apartments in Torre del Lago were completely barren, not even toilet paper or towels

If you are fat/old/ugly and speak zero spanish you will still find plenty of hot colombianas to take your money.
Now if you are none of those characteristics or just one or two you will find even more women and a much lower cost.
As for being african-american there might be some girls that won't dig you but there will be just as many that will actually prefer you over a pasty white gringo like myself. My "novia" down in Cartagena has a cousin that ONLY goes with black guys. So don't worry you will have a helluva time.

I've had friends stay at Tres Banderas and they liked the hotel, albeit, all of them were couples who came together to Cartagena as a couple and were not there picking-up pros.
May I suggest that you read back through the older posts here (go back several pages to begin your reading from about Jan 2008 forward) within this thread to see what others say about pros and cons of staying in a hotel versus an apartment? Then, after reading, tell us why it is you prefer to stay in a hotel? Reading back through the posts here from the past couple of years will also begin to answer your other general questions and help you to zero-in on more specific questions you may have.
There are legitimate reasons for many people, but the only one that would apply to me is if I were bringing a wife or serious girlfriend from the States to Cartagena for a romantic getaway and we wanted to stay in old city for all of its character and ambience.

Decameron is all inclusive -- they're going to charge you for the food and booze that they think your guest will consume. That said, I've walked in and out and had a date walk in and out of a Decameron in Panama with impunity, without wearing the bracelet that shows you're a guest. So depending on set up you might be able to sneak a woman in.
You can take your date to a short time hotel. See World Traveler's list, then do a search on any that look of interest: http://www.internationalsexguide.info/forum/showpost.php?p=813193&postcount=362 Or for that matter, just ask your prostitute to take you to one.
Another option would be to rent a cheap apartment to keep in addition to your room at the Decameron. You can look around when you get to Cartagena. If you do this, check out the A/C before you rent. Pablo, they have a disco in the Decameron Hotel. I believe it is for quests only. When you check into the Decameron they put on a wrist band and have security at the front door to check people as they enter the hotel.I was with my girl friend and her children so i dont know if the allow visitors.

Starting in December you will be able to get direct flights from Toronto to CTG. The most reasonable AI package will probably be at the Decameron in Boca Grande.
I cannot stress enough that the AI is NOT the way to go. Get an apartment !
You will be more comfortable and have a place to bring your daytime and nighttime chicas to. Why waste time and money on by the hour rooms when you can bang your chica in the comfort of your own apt. Make sure you have the fridge stocked with booze and see how a ST chica becomes TLN.
As for the nearby islands such as the Rosarios, you certainly can stay there for a night or two, I would recommend bringing some proven talent with you.
As for Margarita, I been toying with the idea of taking one of my regulars over there for a break.

I like what I read about Cartagena. (Chica/City wise). My question is a simple one. Of the two, which hotel is Chica friendly, the Hilton or Decameron? Plus, I hate Beach vendors bugging my ass, I hear that the Beach for the Hilton is better, no vendors. Is that true? I hit the beach Thanksgiving day 2004. My buddy Alex picked me up from the airport, took me to my Hotel room and tucked me in, a joke OK!
First of all this guy Alex is the absolute shit, he knows everybody in Cartagena and everyone know his ass! This cat is a real honest guy and can hook you up with just about anything that is legal, and all he ask for is a descent tip!
I stayed at the Decameron All Inclusive, not recommended by Surfer, and he was right not Chica friendly at all, but if there is a will there is a way!
This trip I was cash poor and credit card rich, the reason for my pick in hotels! As far as Chicas go all you have to do is book the room for two people in advance! My buddy set me up with a Chica in advance, and she was 32 and hot! Damn I thought she was 25 or so!

Part of the problem is that it is all inclusive. In Feb. of last year I had to pay an extra US$45 per day for the priviledge of bringing in one chica. And it was one hell of a hassle to get them to agree to that. They weren't going to allow any chicas at any price because they are a family hotel. Then they almost shit when I wanted a different chica each day.
It is much less hassle and cheaper to rent an apartment. You will pay US$40-60 per night during low season and can bring in four or more chicas per day or four at one time plus you have a full kitchen and fridge. And one of the pleasures of CTG is dining al fresco. It's good, cheap and great chica-watching. I have even picked up hot puss while dining. There wasn't much to choose from at the Decameron. There were a couple of Ecuadorean doctors, but I think they were dykes.

If anyone has advice on where or how to rent I would appreciate it. I will be flying into CTG. Also do these apartments typically have air conditioning or access to pools? From what I read the beaches are not that great and I typically like to cool off in pools anyway. Lastly how are the poker rooms for NL (1-2 or 2-5 equivalents), any casinos you could recommend?

after all, juan will be entrusting you with the keys to someone else's apartment for the duration of your stay.i've rented from juan on several occassions and have not had any problems. he's a pleasant guy to deal with, has integrity, and will do what he can to make things hassle-free for you. the apartments are chica-friendly, have air conditioning (mini splits), hot water, and other modern conveniences (such as high-speed internet, fully equipped kitchens, stereo, tv's, etc.). the building will have a pool that is open to you and your guest(s). after reviewing the linked site from above, just email juan to make inquiry about what's available for your date of arrival thru date of departure.
if juan doesn't have anything available to suit your tastes, contact mery (actually, with your departure date quickly approaching, send each an inquiry email at the same time to get things rolling-you can use english in your email to either juan or mery). you can find her information in world travel's list in the cartagena lists thread. i've rented from mery on many occassions as well and can recommend contacting her without hesitation just the same as juan. the same apartment features mentioned in the preceding paragraph are applicable to the apartments managed by mery as well.
la perla casino is located in laguito right next to ldv (how convenient). they do spread a nl game pretty much every evening (the game can get started late and run into the wee hours of the morning), and sometimes there are enough players to spread two tables. on the occassions i've played the blinds were a little higher than what you mentioned, but i've also seen them in the 2-5 range when converting the cop back to usd. the times i've played the action has run the spectrum from tight to loose-as you probably know, it just depends on who's playing, how they've been doing, etc.
the beaches, while not pristine and not white sand, aren't as nasty (imo) as some people make them out to b. the touts on the beach can be a pain the first trip, but you get used to them and they get used to you (the more they see you there, the less they swarm you as an easy, gullible, new tourist). if you're not interested, just say gracias and look the other way (if seated), or keep walking. you'll probably have to be a little more firm in saying no to the massage girls on the beach, as they will try to start massaging you all the while you are saying no, lol. if you don't want a massage, don't let them start massaging you!
if you are interested in something from a tout, just remember that the real price is 1/2 or less of their initial asking price (typically offer 1/3, but sometimes the price is even more inflated than that, it just depends and the price is inflated more for a person they've never seen on the beach before, as they are very astute with sniffing out a person there for their first time).
the touts are there trying to reek out a meager living, so it's tough to blame them for starting ridiculously high-plus negotiating is an accepted standard, so stand your ground on your offer price to a tout and show a complete lack of interest if you really wouldn't mind buying that cheap bracelet, necklace, pair of sunglasses, etc.

John, the times I've played they only advised me of the minimum buy-in and that hasn't always been the same. For example, the first time I played I was told that the minimum buy-in was 500 mil pesos. I looked around the table to see how much the players had in front of them (game had already started) and decided to buy-in for 1 million pesos because I didn't want to start out as one of the two or three short stacks (many of the players had over 1 million pesos and the game appeared quite loose). Other times I've played I was told different buy-in amounts ranging from 200 mil to 500 mil pesos. So it's just one of those things that I put into the "I'm in Colombia" categories and go with the flow based on whatever is the flavor for the night.
The red chips are 5 mil pesos, the green 25 mil pesos and the black 100 mil pesos. Easy to remember since the USA casinos are $5 red, $25 green and $100 black.
Yes, you will want to use the ATM's. The vig charged by the money change houses on exchanging dollars will be steeper than what your bank charges you for a foreign transaction on your ATM card. Some bank ATM machines in Colombia do add a surcharge of 2 to 5 mil pesos. For example, the Servibanco machine in La Perla Casino now charges a transaction fee (started charging sometime last Summer/Fall). I know that the Santander Banco machines don't charge, so I mostly use them now, but it's not the one in La Perla Casino and sometimes you just go ahead and incur the transaction charge out of convenience/necessity.
I always get the max I can that first day of arrival at the airport. There are 4 or 5 different ATM machines at the airport back near the Avianca check-in counter for departures. One of them is a Santander Banco machine. Just keep doing pulls from the machine until you reach your daily max as set by your home bank. For example, the ATM will let you do up to 400 mil pesos at a time, but you have a $500 USD daily max on your card, so just do two pulls for 400 mil pesos and the last one for around 140 mil and you should be a little under your $500 USD max based on a current currency translation rate of a little over 1, 900 pesos per $1 USD.
Some of the machines will only spit out 300 mil pesos even though you requested 400 mil. Every time that has occurred, my account was only debited for the USD equivalent of 300 mil pesos and the receipt that printed out at the machine indicated that 300 mil pesos was withdrawn. Was a little unnerving the first time it happened to me, as I was concerned that my account would be debited for the equivalent of 400 mil pesos when it only gave me 300 mil.
Your own home bank will probably charge you the highest transaction fee, depending upon what bank you use in the States. For example, my main bank charges a 3% foreign transaction fee on all ATM withdraws and for transactions at restuarants, etc. Because I travel to Colombia frequently, I opened up accounts at a different bank online that charges 1% (I did have accounts with a bank that had a 0% fee, but alas they were closed down by the FDIC).
For getting your buy-in at La Perla Casino, you can also have the casino manager take your debit Mastercard or debit Visa and have him do a cash advance at the cage since those cards also act just like a credit card. I did it that time I bought-in for 1 million pesos. He'll bring you the money in chips, so you'll only want to use that option when you are going to sit down and play. Since your card is a debit card acting as a credit card, the only limit will be based on the max the bank allows you to for debit card purchases (typically your bank balance, but I know some cards set a daily debit card purchase limit as well). The only fee will be the same % fee your home bank charges you for foreign transactions.
You may already be planning to do the following things, so don't take offense if I'm pointing out the obvious, LOL. It's always best to contact your bank before you leave to let them know that you will be using the card in Colombia (for the days you are there) so that you don't run into any problem with their fraud department freezing account due to suspicious activity, LOL. And it's a good idea to have your banks 24/7 fraud hotline # written down and kept in the safe at your Colombian apartment, along with a different card as back-up just in case you ever run into a problem. I've never been pick-pocketed, robbed or had my card cloned while in Colombia, but I've heard stories of people who have, so I always travel with a back-up plan just in case.
As to particular ATM's, just get your first daily max at one of the ATM's upon your arrival at the airport (after you get past the last security point and exit through the glass doors to outside, take a left turn and start walking up the sidewalk for about 40 yards or so and then enter back into the airport building and walk toward the Avianca check-in counter. You'll see the 4 or so machines there on your left against the wall and to the left of the Avianca check-in counter). After the first day, you can use the Servibanco machine in La Perla Casino, even in the afternoon when they're closed because if you ring the buzzer at the entrance a security guy will unlock the door to let you in to use the ATM. Another good place would be the Servibanco machine inside the Olympica (supermarket) in Bocagrande, as they are open 24/7.
I generally stick with inside machines (not out of paranoia, but under the better safe than sorry when travelling category). In addition to being located in a secure place, those machines most always have the protective cover guard over the keypad to prevent a device placed on the machine by a would-be thief from capturing a copy of your PIN.
As to your iPhone, I'm a low-tech guy when it comes to phones and I only carry a cheap Colombian phone with a Comcel sim card with me when in Colombia. I use my laptop back at the apartment for checking my voicemails and emails back in the States and to make calls back to the States. The best thing is to visit your carrier's (AT&T?) website for their information on international roaming charges and then call your carrier to make sure that the international roaming feature on your account is turned on (important). I think AT&T's rate for roaming calls in Colombia is around $2. 20 a minute. I've heard of other people who have done things to their iPhone (unlocked/downloaded something off the net, etc.) so that they can use it in Colombia with a local sim card and avoid the roaming charge, but I would think that going to al that trouble would be for people who stay in Colombia for an extended period of time or are ex-pats.
Hopefully someone else on the forum who actually uses their USA cellphone while in Colombia will provide some feedback to your question. I'm still in the 90's when it come to cellphones. I use it as a phone and don't even text, LOL.

I was in Cartagena end of March I was able to withdraw 700,000 pesos at a time from the ATM at the Blockbuster Video on Avenida San Martin. It's a CitiBank and it never runs out of cash. When Blockbuster's open you gotta enter from the store side open 24/7 it's on the east side or right side of San Martin at calle 10 as you drive south west on San Martin (its one way). Skip Servibanca they do charge an extra 5500 ontop of the $5 bucks your bank'll charge.
You'll need to make big withdrawls like this cuz Cartagena ain't gettin any cheaper.
What happened? Used to be 150,000 pesos went a really long way, if you know what i mean.

I highly recommend that you bring your A game to the tables and fleece some of these clowns down there who are throwing the money around and wrecking the pricing.

Unlike the other apps, i phone's Line 2 app (new) allows you to receive calls using wi-fi. I have not used Google voice but sounds like you need to be by a computer /wi-fi for that also. Line 2 uses the contact list from your address book and if you put the phone on "airplane mode" you don't have to worry about AT&T.
This is a post from May 2008 at www.Twoplustwo.com posting here for any guys looking to understand the poker options, I'll check this out while I am in town.
So I'm in Cartagena Colombia for the weekend on a business trip (no it has nothing to do with any import/export!). The only game I can find is at the "Casino La Perla".
A couple of differences$:
1. There is no dealer button. Instead there are big and small blind buttons. The first player to act on every street is the first player after the big blind (UTG). So essentially the big blind is the button.
2. I think the rake is terrible it's 3% of every pot. No time charges. This really sucks as I've already seen a couple of times where two players split the pot and the house takes 3%.
3. After the final action, all remaining cards are dealt out so everyone can see what they would have had.
4. There is a dealer and a shuffler. The dealer hands the deck to the shuffler who shuffles that deck so it's ready for the next hand.
5. The dealers are pretty horrible handling the cards. Almost every mucked hand is picked up to pass back to the shuffler who is on the dealers right flashing the cards to the 8 and 9 seats. This is one of the reasons I'm taking a break I want to come back and get in one of those seats.
6. There are no breaks allowed. If you are not there when it is your blind the dealer takes the blind from your stack and the deals you a hand, also to any other players not sitting. When it's your turn to act, dealer mucks your hand.
7. There is a pretty hefty jackpot. 300k (US) for a royal, 18k for any 4 of a kind, 30k for 4 aces, and 80kish for a straight flush. (is that big for 10-20?)
The game goes from 9pm to 6am. There is only one table. It's 10-20 no limit (or close enough with the exchange rates) with a 500 buy in.
There are 7 players, and generally 4 or 5 limp into every pot. A preflop raise of more than 50 or so generally folds all the way around or maybe gets one caller.

DONT USE CREDIT CARDS IN ATMs (if you can)
1) If you use the *credit* function of your credit card (e. G., VISA, MASTERCARD circuits), you will be charged:
- about +1% above the international exchange rate (the one you read on Yahoo Finance, so to speak)
- +4% as credit fee from your bank/VISA/MC
2) I know an US guy who also withdraws money from ATMs using his *revolving* credit card. This is crazy, because he also pays the high fee (10%? 15%?) for paying his debt later.
ASK YOUR BANK TO ISSUE YOU A MAESTRO CARD INSTEAD
1) WHAT is it?
Maestro is the debit card of Mastercard. If you have the Maestro logo on the card, you can take money from ATMs wherever in the world, at the OFFICIAL exchange rate (plus maybe 0. 5%), paying 2-3$ fee, from your bank account without the need of loading the card before.
By far, the most convenient and cheap way to get cash and to change currency abroad in any place. Forget Exchange Offices and hidden envelopes with 2000$ cash brought from home.
By the way, this is is not a debit card you have to load in advance. With this, you take money straight from your bank account.
2) WHERE to use it?
You can use it in ALL ATMs exhibiting the Maestro logo, that is all those exhibiting the MasterCard logo. This means almost all ATMs in all those countries above. I had some problems only in Bangladesh (only maybe 25% of ATMs in Dhaka) and Ghana (only 2-3 ATMs in Accra centrally located).
If you are in a place which is really off-track, use the "MasterCard Global ATM Locator"

3) What are its FEES?
Maybe +0. 5% or less than +1% above the international exchange rate (the one you read on Yahoo Finance, so to speak) plus FIXED fee from your bank (2euro for my bank). No other hidden fees.
4) I know what someone is wondering now. Yes, I checked my bank statement. I did not find any hidden fee for all my MAESTRO ATM withdrawals in Colombia or other places. Only the fees I listed above.

I have possible explanations for that:
1) most people believes that the debit card cannot work abroad;
2) most people did not understand the difference;
3) many debit cards are not enabled to work abroad.
I believe all the above may apply, depending on the case.
I tell you more. Me too, for years, I had to bring cash or using the credit card at ATMs, because my standard card, issued by my bank, was a "double function". That is, you have one single card and, when you put in the the reader, you select debit/credit.
That was presented as the most convenient thing by my bank employee. I naively agreed with him. The problem was that that double-function card, abroad, works only as CREDIT :mad: and this was presented as "normal" by my bank employee.
This is obviously not "normal" but very convenient for the bank.
When I realized the issue, I returned the card and I asked TWO separate cards: a credit VISA card and a Maestro debit card.
However, the Maestro debit card works everywhere in the world (or at least where MC is accepted), other debit cards do not.
I opened two Capone savings accounts over the internet obtaining two debit cards. I travelled to Medellin and was able to withdraw 700, 000 COP a day from each account, but only at a Citibank ATM machine. Bancolombia refused my debit card. Citibank charged me nothing and Capone charged me nothing. The exchange rate I got was good. Capone will allow you to open as many accounts as you want.

About.com has an article rating this as great for travelers as they tested them from europe. No min. Bal either.

I'm planning a trip to Colombia and can't decided on Medellin or Cartagena. It will all boil down to which area provides the most opportunities for eco-tourism in and around the city, such as hiking, rafting, and zip-lines. The tour books provide scant info on this subject.

Buy a SIM card and buy some prepaid minutes. The prepaid cards call be purchased for 10k (about $5 or 20k about $10). The SIM card was a few dollars and the was about 40k (about $20) for the phone Nokia.It's a great way to keep in touch with friends.
If you have an unlocked cell phone (either freq. GSM 850, 2 carriers or GSM 1900 1 carrier) Just take out your SIM card and leave it at home and buy a new SIM card there and prepaid minutes.

VOctober is about the same for mongering as most of the year. The best time would be early november when the beauty pageant is in town or one of the times the country is on vacation and the college girls come to the beach, ie end of may.
The weather in CTG is hot and humid all year round not much change goes from hot and humid to hotter and more humid with more rain.

THXI've been to Cartagena in October 4 times. Yes, it is the rainy season. One October it rained very hard for long periods of time over several days and the streets were flooded (not only in Laguito). The other times in October, was more hit.n- miss with the rain with showers a couple of days over the course of a week stay.
As to chicas, I've been in CTG every month except March and December, and there has always been plenty for my tastes regardless of the month. Will you find more chicas on the beach vacationing during the month of July? Yes, as they are on break from University. Is the beach population more sparse during May? Yes, but that has its pluses as well, especially for a guy who has friends, contacts, and knows Cartagena well.
I wouldn't let the rainy season or the fact there are more chicas vacationing on the beach in July stop me from going in October. One thing you may want to consider, if you haven't already done, is to get a membership here so that you can PM with others who know Cartagena well and can provide you more specific information.

A long weekend isn't much more than I can do there anymore -- Thusday to first flight out Monday morning. Good thing is, you are guaranteed to pack a lot of activity into four days.

November was there the week before Miss Colombia sucked then too won't go to Cartagena again in October or early November.

Caracol Noticias just reported that Bill Clinton is in Colombia right now too although no traveling with his wife who is also in Colombia on official state business. The report showed him in Barranquilla and said from there he was going to Cartagena.
Good chance he'll be at LDV or Tu Candela tonight or tomorrow.

ChrisFor 1) get in touch with Juan Ventura, his phone number or email is somewhere on this site, he is very honest, speaks english and rents apartments in laguito and bocagrande. I was renting from juan one time and mi novia and I had rented several DVDs from blockbuster were going to spend a night in when the DVD player in the apartment wouldn't read the blockbuster discs. So she calls him at 1130pm and we walk across the street and the dude had unhooked his own DVD player to loan us for the night, a class guy in my book
2) just go to La dulce vida. I just got back from Cartagena and was there one night during this trip and it had over 70 girls inside. There were blondes, brunettes, short chicks, tall chicks, cosmetically enhanced chicks and natural ones, almost anything you were looking for, easily a dozen 8-9s in my book. And yes unfortunately a handful of 3's. How they get business I have no idea.
Just a couple of quick other suggestions
Cafe del mar- is a great place to have a drink or two in the early evening, gorgeous view and a great breeze which believe me you will appreciate with the hot, humid weather. Also occasionally some LDV girls before they go there.
Mr. Babilla- a great dance place if you find urself with a good GFE.

If I can intercend here i was was down in in Cartagena in June and used Sol de Indias and very happy. The place is not run by Colombian's my friend. The Condo was spotless and the staff was was extremelty professional run by lawyers. Bro they a fairly large sophisticated property managment firm. Look at the main website. Why would anyone be that stupid to try to rip anyone for a couple of bucks. Mr 69 even you would be that stupid. Even you so hot against someone doing advertising that why are you doing it. We are all adults and can make our decisions and do not need anything to preach bullshit.

Can anyone recommend a good inexpensive day-casa. Sort of Medellin style 30-50K pesos for 30 min. I have been to CTG several times before but have not really been able to find a MDE style place. However, if you have a young lady to take to dinner, you should go to La Langusta which is located just north and outside of the walled city.
They prepare lobster several different ways and comes with a crab meat appetizer. Price wise, it may cost 25 - 30 dollars for a meal. This is of course excluding drinks.
It has been a year since I was last there, so prices may varie.

Unfortunately I had already given my deposit $$ to him when he came along here on ISG. So I had to find out the hard way I guess. Plain & simple hes just not an honest guy. He does his dealings in Canada, then has 2 locals handle things for him in Cartagena.
He tells me, "Lizzette will be handling things for you when you arrive" I ask if she speaks English since my espanol is limited, He says, "Oh yea, no problem" Well she didn't even know one word of english. That just started things off bad for me, because I don't like to be lied to. It was just downhill from there. Its a nice building, but his apt. Is average, but he will tell you its pristine. Its waaay over priced, $150. 00 or 300, 000 COP per night! If he had everything right there, such as hot water, it would be worth maybe $90. 00 a night.
The worst was they were doing construction in the apt. Below me, using sledehammers to bust up concrete from 8 am through the entire day, for 4 days straight. All I heard was basically it wasnt his problem, and that it would stop after my first day there. I should have been told this beforehand so I would have had the choice to stay or go. But I found out after he already had my money, which by the way had to be cash only. I could go on & on, from the toilet that had no seat or lid, and didn't work half the time.
I would definitely not recommend his business to anyone

Went to Cartagena for one night to visit with an amiga. She is very organized and a good shopper. I told her to find us a place, at first I requested Laquito but later I said anywhere she wanted.
She got us an apartment in El Conquistidor. 100k per night from an agent, plus 17k to the building desk for something else. airco in the bedroom, high up, beautiful view of the sunset. building is old, units are not well maintained. no soap, no towels, etc. Market seems to be Colombian famiiles. We wore a plastic bracelet as in an all inclusive resort. I don't think this building would be that good for bringing back girls, but this is Colombia. It is probably all possible.
Walking and travelling around Laquito and Bocagrande at 830pm you would not think there is that much mongering here. Just saw a couple of working girls sitting on a wall and talking to taxi drivers outside a building down the street from ours.

ZingI have stayed there in the past with no problem bringing girls in. You have to sign them in at the lobby, but I had a extra wristband so I would tape it to their wrist and then aviod that little delay.

I go there with my g/f and we take one of her prepago friends with us because the prepagos cant get in usually unescorted. they sometimes wait outside and try to get a guy to escort them in so they can work.

You have to buy it in this case in FLL. I personally never heard of any place that you can buy liquor as an incoming traveler in duty free.In Myanmar you can get 'duty free' after you're in: not personally heard, personally experienced. Any country looking to grab hard currencies will have this type of 'duty free'.
If you're coming into Colombia and you only get 2 bottles duty free, make it Tequila, if you plan to do your drinking / partying with chicas, that is.

While in MDE I got a call from an old friend called Urban Wildlife. He had two newbes from the USA and another guy from Atlantic City coming into CTG on lMonday. Funny thing was I had never met him, but we had traded PM's and talked on the phone quite a bit for the last two years. A lot of info was traded back and forth with most of it coming from him.
I had been in MDE for 15 days and the Puta's in Mayorista were starting to get on my nerves so I decided to meet everybody for 3 nights. CTG has never been my favorite but this trip kind of opened my eyes to some of the pleasures to be had there. We started off going to LDV and that is the one place I have always liked. After a while we left there and went to Pleyboy. Wow some hot Chicas in attendence there. A large bottle of whisky was I think 250K. Not sure as Urban Wildlife mostly ran the whole show for the 3 days I was in CTG. Then a short trip to Laguero which was a strip club that had a few good ones. The Chica I ended up with for the whole 3 days had a friend there and we ended up barfineing her for 100K. Two cabs were needed now and it was off to Isis. Not as many sharp girls as the last time I was there and one of the fellows with us had a dispute over two drinks that a couple of girls ordered The tab was 140K and we gave him enough support that we left without paying that tab. BTW He was quoted a price for TLN of 500K from one of the girls.
Last stop for the night was Elektra and this is the place that changed my view of CTG. I loved all the Pro's who end there night there. So many Stunners that I was drooling. Urban Wildlife then got some girls from there and off to his apartment in Lagito for some fun. We all chiped in 80K and all the girls took there clothes off and danced for a while. The funny thing was the first one to completly disrobe was Urban. That blew my mind, but not the girls as they quickly joined him. Urban is a trip and in two days he killed 4 bottles of Crown Royal. Also I don't think he got 5 hours sleep in the 3 days.
We all went to the Hollywood beach on Tuesday and the water was great. My Chica loved to fight the big waves and since she could not swim someone had to hold that lush Morena body. Tony was his usual greedy self and after padding my bill he then got upset because I refused to give him a tip.
All in all if my ship ever comes in then CTG will be one of my regular stops. Till then it is MDE for this budget Monger.
I am new to CTG and last night hit LDV for the first time ever and concur with the mostly positive reports.
If last night is typical then as a freelance venue it has to rate much better than similar venues in two other popular LAm monger spots that I do know well - Tequila Rocks Lima Peru and Key Largo San Jose CR.
M-F ratio was about 60-20 - if that is typical and based on Hilltopper's reports seems to be so with some variation, it is more chicas than you will almost ever see at TR, and far less sausage than the typical night at KL. And average quality last night was better than I typically would find at TR or KL as well, I saw relatively few fatties and uglies.
In my case I pulled a solid 8 Barranquillana quite easily, I took her back with no discussion of money..after short time, her not as GFE as I hoped, she wanted 200k, it had been less than 1 hour and I insisted on 150k and she was not too happy..she left with 150K plus taxi fee and a couple of snacks.

Can anyone recommend a good inexpensive day-casa. Sort of Medellin style 30-50K pesos for 30 min. I have been to CTG several times before but have not really been able to find a MDE style place. Day Casa with Centro Historico location would be great. New to this forum but will start contributing as soon as I accumulate valuable information to share.I was also interested in this (Casas day or night). I arrive at night after a long flight and new to the place, so wondered if it's possible to get a quick relief and go to bed!
I have looked in various forums and haven't seen many references to straight forward Casas in CTG (with no bar, strip-club etc.). I think there probably aren't many, not sure why, may be issues with authorities! No demand! Where do locals go?

JägerIt was not Crown Royal, but the local whiskey that is all over Colombia. I don't know the name , but it could be Old Pard or something like that.. Bottles are good if you have a few guys with you. The other advantage is the girls can also drink from the bottle avoiding the expensive lady drinks.
It seems that more girls know some English in CTG than the other Colombian citys.
I did not mention this in my earlier report ,but a lot of the girls come from other citys to work in CTG so you get a good selection of the different shades of beauty.

When you get to well known in a area like that the girls tend to become a pain in the butt. Asking for food money and others saying how come you didn't you take me tonight? Didn't we have a good time together the last time? It gets old after a while so the 3 day trip to CTG was a welcome change.

I was in a wedding party, surrounded by civilians. I still headed out in search of fun twice, and scored the wonderful Milena on day 1. She made the otherwise quiet 10 days worth it. Two of her bud spuds were pretty doable too. I took a forgettable GDP the next day (sorry about the blurry picture), and didn't have time to bank around for 2nds. Source. La Dolce Vita. Banged at the love motel La Jaiba, as our boutique hotel, two doors down from a strip club, did not allow "those people" in under any circumstances. Hell, Milena was classier than most of the women staying at the hotel!Wow.

As a quasi budget monger myself, I like to know what I'm getting into if I ever go there.The first night she wanted 150K but I got her for 120K. Since she stayed with me for the rest of the time ( which I did not expect ) I gave her 150K for each of the other two nights.
Urban handled all the paying for the drinks. He would ask me for 50 or 60 K for my share and so I really don't know exact prices. I do remember Pleyboy being 250K for a large bottle of rye.
Since I wifed up I was not asking prices,but one of our group got a hottie out of Electra for 70K near the end of the night.
I'm off to Cartagena from 30th August for two weeks. I've been 5 or 6 times before and about half of those times I have got stuck with the La Ley Seca rule. Can anyone tell me if in early September this is happening? IMO CTG is kinda dead if there's no alcohol going around.
Also, daytime options. There's Playa Hollywood, but I don't really know of anything else. Tony is ok and all, but I'd rather not. Do you have any updates?

KBHotel Caribe is one of the original structures in Bocagrande and has many families that stay there. Also many weddings and receptions are held there. I got married there seven years ago and when we went to our room many hours later, I got the full look over by the staff. Luckily, one doorman knew my wife and things went better. If you register an extra guest and your "wife" is appropriately dressed, you might have no trouble.
For the cost you pay for the hotel, you could rent a a very nice two bedroon apartment where you will not be hassled except for your guest signing in when you bring her home. I have stayed in about six different buildings over the years, but I like Mirado del Laquito. It has a nice pool which at times you would be alone.
Sorry to go on, but I cannot understand why anybody would stay in a hotel when there are better options.
i used to live in ctg years ago (2004 ) and rented an apt with a telephone line and i subscribed to the local isp enred for internet access. it was slow dial-up and constantly dropped connections.
i'm wondering how good the internet connection is these days, the supposed "broad-band" in the apartments.
i am employed by a company now but work from home. what i want to do is move to ctg ( for a while ) and set up shop there. good broadband is a must, i'm guessing 1mb download speed would suffice.
along with the internet connection i am going to need some sort of reliable telephone source .. voip ( skype, vonage, etc.. ). one with a local number in the states so i can be called by co-workers.
does anyone know if this is possible/do-able with the services there and which voip would accommodate telephone needs .. which are minimal but necessary from time to time.
my objective is to just go, and not have my company know i am there and be able to conduct business as usual.

Or just rent one of the higher end apartments at the beginning - one that has broadband included.
All cell companies now have 3G modem offerings. While they are not stable enough to be your primary option, this may be of interest as a backup or roaming option. Une is probably the best. There is a booth in Caribe Plaza mall where you can sign up instantly and walk away with USB modem in hand.
A SkypeIn phone number and voicemail is one solution that will work for your calling needs. Get hold of a good quality headset (Plantronics or similar) before you travel.
Cartagena is not the easiest place to work. The ever present humidity can sap your energy and leave you lethargic.

Last time I was in Colombia, traveling between, or venturing to the outskirts of the major population centers, it was considered considerably dangerous due to the para military groups. But, this was several years ago.
I was just wondering if things have improved sufficiently that you can now take land transportation between the cities, perhaps during the daylight hours, and be relatively safe.
Don't know about that logic. I am flying into Medellin next week and departing from Cartagena a couple of weeks later. You do have to route your trip through Panama City from the US. Continental partners with AeroRepublica for that purpose. American flies to MDE too but don't know if I would want to stoop that low. Haha
Everything I have read suggests thats it's quite safe outside the cities. BTW: A bus ride would take forever between those cities. Fly instead as there are plenty of airlines who fly that route and it's inexpensive.

I just want to rent an apt. with internet access, I don't want to stay long enough to sign contracts. After four months or so I'm ready to leave anyway. I do remember needing a letter addressed to me ( or signature from another resident ) in order to get the contract going too..
I know it's not easy working there. After a few weeks the humidity etc.. isn't the biggest problem though. The hardest thing for me was I always feel like I'm missing something being locked inside all day. That, and chicas calling during the day and I need to stay focused on work.

If you call them to book your reservations they sometimes give you a free R/T ticket anywhere Avianca flies within Colombia with your original ticket. Good for the duration of your stay. You have to call though, you can't get this offer if you book online.
I don't know when/why/how they offer this but every time I have booked a ticket into CTG with Avianca I have been given this extra R/T ticket. You'll also have to tell them the dates you plan to use it beforehand, before you actually purchase the tickets.
Cartagena on Sunday beach is packed by far best day.
VOIP no problem, relize there is a Internet cafe in La Guito with several cheap International phones.
Medellin don't understand plenty of cheap flights from Spirit and Avianca.
Relize you can fly to Medellin from CTG on a pass for 100 bucks or take bus but it takes 12hours and is safe.
Cartagena yes is safe; no gangs other than chics.
Yes, the LDV is the place to go for best looking chics same ones as Electra later.

Check out the cell phone thread, but specifically for me I use an Android phone tied into my gmail. So I'm looking for a dual phone, that is, a phone that works on both the US and Colombian frequency, that is, CDMA as well as GSM. HTC is coming out with a Verizon-Android world phone in 2011.

Such a phone should be able to receive calls normally but with a roaming fee of close to $3 per minute. For calling out, to save money you could call from your apt using skype or a similar service.
This particular phone is not coming out until 2011, and I am waiting on it bc it works on Verizon, which I use, and it is an Android phone.

If you had a phone like the HTC world phone, you would still have a problem if you used it for local calls in Colombia, bc you would still be paying $3 a minute. So you would probably want a separate comcel phone.
There is such a thing as a dual-Sim phone, but I have read about them and they seem problematic, like having to manually direct or change which Sim to use, etc.

In that short of time period, I can get by without the printer and scanner.
Oh, and I have a $10 used Colombian cellphone and bought a Comcel chip on the street for $5. I just buy the prepaid cards to load minutes for all Colombian incoming and outgoing calls.

The only experience with VOIP in CTG is in the internet cafes, and was not impressed. It wasn't even worth the cheap cost. But it has been a while so.
As for the computer setup I don't even need a fax or printer. Just the programs installed on the computer itself, which is a nice thing. I may try the Skype route and give it a dry run on a weeks vacation. Then I believe the biggest problem will be finding an affordable apt. For longer terms (months) that has the internet. More affordable places off the beaten path aren't likely to have good internet if at all.

Checked into to one of Mary's rooms at the Mirador del Laguito. Roughly 75 (studio) and 100 2 BDR. LDV (down the street) was pretty active after 1100-1130PM. It races on until 300 AM and then then the girls move on (if not booked) to Isis or other places until 600AM. There must have been 40-70 girls at any time at LDV (mostly in my opinion 7-9's) amazing from all over Colombia.
Prices vary-depends on personality, looks, spanish speaking ability. YMMV but agreet that it ranges from 100 (2hrs) to 150 (night-by that time night is 3/4 hours only anyway.).
Just a report from an infrequent Colombia visitor. Hope its useful.

Thanks a bunch guysFirst of all, you are staying in an apartment complex that has many families and also have tourists renting apartments by the night week, month. Many short time girls working the beach and LDV stay there. It is located in Laquito which is past Boca Grande. Keep your eyes open and you might be able to score during the day. There is no extra charge, but each girl you bring up must have her cedula and register the guest book.
I would forget going to Pleyclub since I found there are better looking girls roaming Laquito and Hollywood Beach, plus it is a 20 minute taxi ride. Before LDV gets going good later in the night, go to the casino next door and you can bump into many working girls in there, but be careful because there are regular girls in there.
Now for the bad news, El Conquistador is a large building with two elevators, one of which may not work. If you are near the top (I believe 20 stories), you will experience long wait times for an elevator to come. I stayed there one time and will not go back due to the feel of the building. However, you can have a great time with all of the girls that may be there. The staff gave my fiance at the time (wife now) a miserable time one night to the point she was crying hysterically for an hour.
Have fun, I will be there starting Sunday, but I am staying in a building about two years old for a $100 per night. Great pool, AC, flat screen TVs. Next time you go, check the web sites for alternative lodging.

LDV is open 7 days a week best to get there around 12am, Cartagena is the main party spot of Colombia where they party 7 days week. For day time mongering hit the beach in the early afternoon or hook up with #1 Tony on the beach you cant miss him he is moreno(black) Colombiano with a gold tooth if you dont speak spanish he knows many chicas around Cartagena he can hook you up.

I agree to what you are saying. Before, I went to Medellin I met some amazing girls from Medellin in both Bogotá and Cartagena. They were there for a week or two and going back to Medellin to supposedly live a regular life because, for them, Medellin is too small for them doing this sort of thing in their hometown. Did I believe them? No.
In fact, I saw three girls in Medellin, the two I met at Lalos in Bogotá and the other at PleyClub in Cartagena, and it turned out to be great. I did pay them, but I got lot more in return in-term of time or company. They were eager to show me around or accompany me to regular restaurants and bars.
In Cartagena, I did go to PleyClub and Isis, but they were asking 277k for 40-50 minute, and will not lower their price. I believe they were asking lot more for hotel or apartment. I think their management was enforcing the prices because in Isis a girl agreed to a lower price to go to the apartment, but later changed her mind after talking to a guy in the management. However, one thing worked out for me at PleyClub was to ask girls for their numbers, and see them next day during the day time for 150k. In my opinion, the quality of girls at PleyClub was very good. Please note that, there were some who refused to give their numbers, but most did.
I think LDV provides a very convenient and relax environment, and there are lot more opportunities to talk and dance with the girls before committing to anything. Despite that, I had mix results. I generally paid 150k for 2 hours, often did two nuts, and some started with BBBJ without me asking for it.

Another recommendation for Mery. She arranged a flat in the Mirador on a couple of hours notice with no hassle what so ever. She speaks English fine and all in all is very pleasant to deal with. The cleaner was still here when I arrived finishing up. The flat itself is a lot nicer than the one the street touts tried to sell me in the building next door. Clean towels and toilet paper provided. A nice touch was the freezer stocked with ice cubes. The flat itself has no wifi but there are unsecured routers in building.
There is also the side benefit of a few of the local girls sharing a flat in the building directly opposite. A quick wave and a shout of the room number out the window and one of them is running across for a quick tumble before I've even moved my bags into the bedroom. Have to love Colombia!

I have heard that santa marta beaches are much nicer, but haven't tried them myself yet. I have been to san Andres, which is part of Colombia, and the beaches and ocean are just like St Maarten and Anguilla -- beautiful! This is what I could recommend. I used the Casa Blanca hotel in downtown San Andres, with beach across the street (not the greatest beach on the island, but okay). Good hotel.

DAY ONE
Please forgive me if I seem a little long winded, but this trip needs an explanation, especially for anyone that wants to marry a Colombian. I have been married to a Colombiana for seven years and after a few years, she returned to Colombia to take care of her gravely I'll mother. After her mother passed away, the length of time she had been out of the US meant that we had to reapply for a visa. She had two appointments at the embassy in July and August. Both times she told me that she did not get her visa. Once due to needing an original document and the other for a reason she did not understand. I sent an email to the embassy and they told me she did not show up for either of the appointments. Thinking she has not been honest with me so she could string me along for financial support, I told her I could not afford to keep both of our households in the US and Colombia and we need to go our separate ways. I let her know that I would talk to her when I come to her on Thursday, Sept 9th. I actually arrived on Sunday so I could spend time alone and have some fun without fear of a jealous spouse.
I am in my mid fifties and spend more time at work than looking for sex, so after I got married my attention drifted towards my wife and step-son. When my wife left for Colombia, there has been much stress on our marriage, but we have previously found a way to make our lives interesting. If I had sex with another woman, it was set up by my wife with girls she knew and she would be a part of it. After getting through customs in about five minutes, my bags were ready for me. Then after battling through the throng of family members meeting their loved ones and through the never ending hands of taxi drivers grabbing for your bags, I made my way to the terminal to get some cash at the ATM.
I went outside of the terminal to find a single taxista waiting for a customer. She put my bags in the back seat and I grabbed the front seat next to her and we were off to Laquito. She was a pleasant surprise in that this is the first time I had seen a female taxi driver in Cartagena. She was fun to talk to and made the short trip even shorter. The first thing I noticed was the large amount of street construction going on all the way to my apartment.
I stayed in one of Juan Ventura's apartments. The apartment was located in the Marinare building in # 1004. The room looks out over the ocean with a huge balcony with an electric grill. I only needed one bedroom, so I got the apartment for $100 a night. It has two flat screen TVs, washer/dryer, Sony music system connected to the TV, sofa, recliner chair, AC, hot water, ceiling fans, nice bed and closet with a full mirrored front. If you need a place in Cartagena, this is one great place.
After preparing the apartment to my liking, that is, setting the thermostat to cool the apartment, turning on the ceiling fans, filling the fridge with some water, Diet Coke, and beer, I decided to take a walk to the beach. As soon as I made my way within sniffing (appropriate wording for Tony) distance of Hollywood beach, I heard the famous Tony chant "My fren, my fren. How are you? Sit down, you want some cocaine, pussy, you buy Tony a beer? " He did introduce me to a young university student from Barranquilla. She was with friends, both male and female and she needed to return to them by 6:30 to go back home. Her name is Alex and she is 19 years old. Very interesting to talk to her in that she is intelligent and more sophisticated than any other beach girl I have previously met. She quoted me 250K for an hour and I just smiled and gave her a stare until she came down to 150K. Since it was already 4:45, I needed to close the deal before she had to head for home. day three
