My girlfriend once bought cel phones for about 3 or 4 guys at the mall in Medellin ... in her name of course ... but it was easy.

He is from Barcelona, Spain, speaks good English, and knows the meaning of customer service. Good move using Alex for your first run.
The Internet card is a prepago(pre-paid). You get maybe 15 hours of connect time for 15K(US$6.50). It is dial-up. But it works fairly well.
The other apartment may be the one owned by Juan in Playa Mar. It is right below the one I own. I have a wireless router so his clients can use my cable Internet(120 kps).

Generally you look at the square meter price for new construction with equal view, amenities, maintemento and then offer 60-70%. Figure in your transfer taxes and if you can not agree on 80%, He is probably just fishing and you are better off looking at something else. Here in Lima new oceanfront properties only go for $1000 a square meter and used properties can be had for $800. When buying real estate abroad you should rent for at least a year and pay close attention to the political situation. Uribe can not run again and Chavez is doing his best to influence upcoming elections in neighboring countries. (which will be detrimental to foreign ownership) I have bought several properties in Lima and intend on buying more. Even here it is a crapshoot with the elections next year, but at least in Peru the economics are a tailwind as opposed to Columbia. Always remember "Due Diligence is the primary key to investment success."

Well at first it was going to be 1204 but I recieved an email later from Juan and he said it was going to be 1004. Of course my itenary changed a few times as well. I better check with Juan's but his email does not always work, I get about half of them returned so I end up sending them to the web site address. That is actually kind of a hassle because I barely have time to reply let alone trying to find the one I sent that was previously sent, copying it and then going to the web site to find the other email address and sending it again. I sent via Western Union one days rent and I bet it sat there for 3-4 days before I could go to his web site and alert him after sending him previous emails that came back a day or two later as undelieverable.

Tom, Thank you for the clarifaction on Uribe. I am assuming the 1,500,000 peso's per meter is not for new construction as that is fairly reasonable ($65 /sq.ft) considering the size of Cartagena.

Correct, LB. New construction is going for 2 to 2.5 million pesos per square meter or more. You do get some better stuff in the new buildings(e.g. the emergency generator may power the entire building rather than just the emergency lights and elevators).

They seem alot cheaper than Centauro or Playa Mar, a 1 Bedroom sea front in Centauro is on the market for $50K and in Tocogua there are 1 BR sea front units for $32.5K.
Does anyone know why they are cheaper? Not as many gringos in them? More of a rental building? Tocogua is closer to LDV.
Mery Salence said this building is having erosion problems from the sand washing away, and that the building is in litigation with the government to get them to repair the erosion. Some of the buildings on the ocean have rivetments out into the seaside to protect their sand from washing out. Does anybody know about this problem or others in Tocogua?

ranks pretty close to El Conquistador for crap. The owner of the Israeli Restaurant is trying to sell his 1 bedroom in Tocahagua. I got trapped in an elevator in that building in Feb. of 2003. They did get new elevators.
There used to be a beach from Playa Mar connecting with the one past Tocahagua. The city has plans to rebuild that beach.
There are a whole bunch of these small islands, some are nice and some are not so nice. Can anyone recommend a good one, a name or two would be nice.

I am planning my first visit to CTG in early December for two weeks. My number two priority for the trip is plenty of sunshine. I have been checking the internet weather sites and they have been showing lots of cloud and rain in recent weeks. Is this correct? Does the weather tend to improve in December or would I be better off waiting until January? Thanks
On arrival in CTG I am planning to spend a few nights in the Hotel Almirante before deciding where to stay for the rest of the trip.
In CTG at the moment. Not too crowded yet, but it seems to be picking up as it gets closer to the end of this week with festivities going on and such. It is true that apartments are harder to come by and are more expensive this week.
Another thing comparing to last year the quality and quantity of girls seem to hve gone down considerably. Girls routinely ask 200K for un rato, 300K por toda la noche, no thank you. Dont pay more than 100-150 until after they leave and if you party with them they´ll stay til the morning. Overall P4P scene seems to be overrun by gringos though I didn´t see that many from US per se, I saw tons of johns from europe at GiroMatto the other night at least 4-1 ratio not in our favor.
I will return to Cartagena to try to score a freebie and just enjoy the beach the islands, but this certainly not much a p4p destination anymore. Now that we´ve Costaricanized Cartagena time to move on to other parts of the country (or pay big $$$ for quality paisas in Panama city).

Sean, I could not disagree more. I have lived here now for three years. The quality and quantity of chicas continues to improve. They asked for 200K three years ago for ST. You can get good quality for 50-60K for ST. Just troll the beaches and streets. I got one for 30K in Centro a couple of weeks ago. I occasionally go to LDV and pay 100K for ST. I haven't been to Giro Matto for a long time. That place doesn't even start hopping until 2:00 am.
prices are cheaper for girls you get from the street. they ask for 80-100,000 but will take 40,000 pesos for ST. Steet selection is limited to only that girl, or look for another on the street for a half an hour. Often you just run into a nice looking girl on the street, talk to her and make a deal. Alot of the street or beach girls have body odor, from being outside for several hours, and are less refined. I had one go thru my frig without being invited, next time I will throw this type of girl out, period.
If you go to the night clubs, selection is much better, but the girls all talk to eachother, like us men do here, about prices. Almost like they are a union, with minimum prices. But the girls are more refined, better dressed, and you know you probably will not get scammed, because you can come back to the club the next night and probably see them there again.
Last month I had a girl agree to140,000 pesos TLN at LDV and then when I was ready to go, she said she wanted another drink and brushed me off. I then moved on to the another girl at the bar and negotiated with the other girl for 140,000 pesos also and said the first girl had agreed to that price. I ended up taking a 3d girl out for ST for about 120,000 pesos. Usually all the LDV girls will start out with 200,000 pesos for ST, about 300 for LT. I usually counter with 100,000 pesos and see what they say next. If they don't drop real fast I move on to another beauty. I probably should counter with 80,000 pesos as my first offer.
It is strickly business for the girls at nightclubs, but the best ones I have found were more shy and did not talk too much with other girls at the nightclubs. Some of these girls are more girl friend experience types and will end up being sweethearts that you want to spend more time with.

I have paid up front several times without a problem and haven't had any more problems with street girls than club girls. In general the SGs are sweeter and have better attitudes than the club girls. They are also happy with much less money.
MDE is much larger with less tourists. You can, however, find plenty of non-pro action in any Colombian city including CTG. MDE is a very special place.

I had a great time at the La Dulce Vita, hooking up with a sweet thing about 90 pounds with an incredible appetite. She asked for COP 300,000 for TLN, but accepted 200,000. Both clubs were visited by heavily armed Colombian police while we were in them. It was so strange – about six guys walk in with body armor, machine guns, shotguns, and pistols – but after a quick glance, everybody just ignores them! Except the proprietors, who casually walk over and start chatting them up. Several of the cops then case the joint, walking around slowly and giving some people some attention, others nada. In each case the management is at pains to let us gringos know that “no hay problema” (there is no problem) it’s just a normal law enforcement show of force to make sure no bad guys get any ideas about laxity in the PD.
Several threads have mentioned La Tripletera, and we tried to give them our business three times. But every time we went in there, the place was completely empty. I don’t know what was going on, but there were no women, and there were more doormen and wait staff then there were customers. So maybe someone can enlighten me as to what was going on there in Oct 2005.

One of the bedrooms in our apartment wasn’t that great because it was set up with bunk beds. But the building is friendly, has a small pool, is right on the beach, and we had complete freedom to bring guests home. For two guys, this is a total bargain because the delux setting really impresses the women.

Re prepaying, never had a problem with that at all in Colombia. I often leave the money out on the nightstand for them to find so they do not have to ask (which is akward). I prefer to get the $$$ thing resolved so it is not an issue during the lovin. . . .
I had one from LDV a few days ago that wanted 100K ST. In the bedroom she wanted it all up front and started making rules about no kiss, no touch my cookie, etc. Girl was 19 and a looker, but wanted to control the session.

Not the biggest deal in the world here, but I tend to agree with the buddies who were giving you grief. The "mistake" you made was comparing how much TLN with a hottie costs in the USA. You weren't in the USA. You were in Colombia. This is how the prices get driven up, and why all the girls are asking for more.

A few months ago i was paying average of around 80-120k in CTG. Now thanks to this sort of thinking i'll have a hard time paying that again as the girls will expect gringo's to pay 200-300.
Paying those prices is a bit like passive smoking.... your actions cause me problems.
Comparing it with US prices or girls or services is plain dumb. Look at the price of everything around you. When you found out beer at the local bars was only about a dollar did you immediately pay triple like in the US? The girls don't think any more of you if you pay these inflated asking price, they quite often think you're a sap for paying that much to start with.
Rule No 1: There is LITTLE OR NO linear relationship between money paid and services rendered. Paying double does not guarantee twice as good a service.
Don't export fucked up US pricing to Colombia. Look at Costa Rica where the damage is already done.
Relatively speaking in the developed world goods are cheap and services expensive, in the developing world its the other way round. Lets keep it that way!

Hello Biffy and the other guys who want to give me a lecture on driving prices up. First, I hope you don't expect to get a Mercedez for the same price you pay for a Chevy Cavalier. The woman I paid COP 200,000 was absolutely the best looking, finest woman on the premises that night (in my opinion, of course). She started at COP 300,000, and it took an hour to agree on 200,000. There were definitely many women in the club that would have taken the lower prices you quote - I just didn't want them.
Second, my comment about the $2k US was merely to remind myself what a deal we get in Colombia. This woman was only the nicest experience I've had in about five years of this hobby - except for the woman I met in Medellin four nights later (which I also paid too much for according to some members here - same price, same characteristics, same wonderful experience).
Some of you may think that it is our mission to keep these people starving so we can exploit them. I'm not in your camp, so sorry. I am happy to pay a fair price for the excellent services I receive. Comparing what they do and the wage they receive to the current average wage rate in their country doesn't hold water for me. It's like saying a football player shouldn't make millions because Joe six pack only earns $45k year.
Finally, I've found that beating anybody down to the very last penny they will accept in a business transaction invariably leads to an unsatisfactory experience. For example, I seldom pick the lowest bidder on a construction job. It just doesn't pay off. You get shitty work, shitty attitude, and shitty satisfaction. After reasonable negotiations, I would rather pay a little bit more and get the higher quality.
Whatever amigo ... bottom line is ... you're over-paying.
Paying a fair price is not exploiting anyone, starving anyone, etc ... over-paying is just that ... over paying ... and the prices will continue to rise as more and more gringos visit Colombia with the attitude: "I don't mind paying that price because in the US the prices are .... blah, blah ..."

Colombians are indeed as gracious and charming as they say, they speak excellent Spanish (which is important if you know how bad they speak in the Caribbean/Central America), and they left me in awe from the moment I landed in Bogotá to the day I left Cartagena.
I highly recommend learning some Spanish, especially if you really want to learn something about Colombia and its people besides how well the girls can grind. I never got so much tail with so little effort in my life, and I've met way too many desperate chavalas in my life. So you can have pretty much any girl in Colombia? Really? Well if you can have the non pros for free...why not? IMHO, in your 20s you should be able to get free pussy in the USA or any other country. i have some platonic amigas in colombia as well and they have told me that in a lot of cases that a colombiana is attracted to an older man not because of financial gain but for his life experience. they feel that an older man can teach them many thing of life that they might learn from and they find he is more interesting than the 25-30yr old male. this attitude transcends all social classes in colombia.
the exception is some of the older women 45+ sometimes look for the younger man for an affair. i think they call it “comir pollo” or something like that… lol.

I didn't mean to diss any of the older guys, especially since I know many of them are swimming in vag down there and putting out the vibe like the yutes. You are correct in assuming I don't have much trouble getting in like Flynn up here, but it is because of this that 1, I only pay for it down there if I REALLY like the girl and 2, I look for the girls who want more than a session with a time limit. Alachingada: EXCELLENT post. Fortunately, you are incorrect in your skepticism about the viability of relationships between younger Colombianas and older men (ambos nativo and extranjero). I have a WAYS to go until 50, but I can say that MANY Colombianas genuinely prefer 30 or 40 somethings to guys in their 20s. While economics cannot be discounted entirely, it is also a mistake to assume that it is nothing more than economics at play. No offense, but IMHO it takes YEARS of interacting with women before you can even begin to understand what makes them tick. Lord knows I still have MANY years before I will attain that capability.
I cannot compare Colombia for a 20something as my first trip was at 40. There is no doubt there are some hotties I might have scored back when I was 25 and lean as could be that would not be interested now. At the same time, there are LOTS of hotties who I COULD bond with now that I never could have when I was in my 20s.
Finally, your point about being able to communicate is KEY; while many WSGers cannot become 20 again, nor can they get into shape such that girls would be attracted to them BECAUSE they are acuerpado, ANYBODY, no matter how old or fat, CAN learn enough Spanish to communicate at a basic level. Those who refuse to try should really go to the DR, Thailand or the PI instead as I think they will enjoy it more than Colombia.

Sorry, I hit return or something without meaning to. Anyway, I must also admit that one of the great things about latinas is that there are more than a few who do in fact want to be with older guys, which will be my MO should I remain single for another 10-15 years, though I plan to relocate to S.A. next year and doubt I'll be able to hold out. And as far as understanding what makes them tick, I have the rest of my life to solve that quandary.
The economics issue is definitely a factor, which is why some español will help you better penetrate people and perceive any ulterior motives, not to mention save you a lot of money, whether in a taxi, club, bar, burdel. I know that when I was living and working in Central America, there were plenty of chicas who looked at Americans as if they had the word 'VISA' on their forehead. Some of these girls are real sly and have obviously been playing the game for a while. (I know soldiers who were stationed at Comayaguela in Honduras who married natives then got ditched as soon as everything was legal and they were here in the US.) On the other hand, many of them couldn't be happier with a gringo, especially since we come from a society that protects women and observes their myriad rights, unlike many latin countries, and most of the latinas I've met who have had the chance to be with a foreigner admit that gringos are better in the sack. I will say that in Colombia there were plenty of gold diggers, especially since going 'mojado' (wetback) isn't an option due to geography. Actually, almost no one understood me when I used that term. For them, marriage is the best option to get a ticket out, more so when obtaining a visa to Europe or the US is extremely difficult and not cheap. Though if these dudes keep overpaying, they'll end up decreasing the number of women looking to leave as all those dollars tend to liberate and empower. Antes que te cases mira lo que haces.

Yesterday I was talking to a Columbiana in St Maarten about going to a hotel for a couple of hours. She complained that in St Maarten there were no "Motels d'amor", which she said were common in Columbia.
A Motel d'Amor is a row of rooms with attached garages. You drive into an empty garage, press a button, talk to the office, negotiate a price for however many hours you want, put the money in a slot, and enter the room. No personal contact with the motel people - no one sees you or knows who you are.
I know most mongers in Columbia probably don't have cars or the need for this service, but it sounds imminently practical. Has anyone ever used such a Motel d'Amor?

Love motels are quite common in Puerto Rico. Most college girls live in single sex dorms or have room mates in their apartments, so these places are indispensable. Ironically, due to the "good girls don't fuck before marriage" mentality on the island most girls would rather go to a love motel where they can remain anonymous than go to a more upscale hotel where they might be recognized.
Married men and women also make use of these places for the numerous affairs that take place on a daily basis. In fact, if you wait until late at night it would be very difficult to find a motel with available rooms. The staff usually writes down the tag number of your car just in case you decide to leave a body behind or something of that nature. I would be careful about using one in South America if I had any doubts about security.
Apartments with AC are more upscale. By Colombian standards electricity is very expensive in Cartagena Estrato 6. Renters tend to turn the AC on and blast it the entire time they are around. Some even leave the windows open while the AC is on. The electricity cost alone can add over US$100 per month.

You can get anything from basic to fine quality. The best one I've tried was in Cali. It was a real pad. With outdoor courtyard, steam room, jacuzzi, TV w/ porn, Hi-fi, big bed with mirror on the ceiling, nice bathroom facilities and some complimentary drinks. Cost for 3 hours -- 35k, which is about US$15.
Pricing - there is no stopping the upwards trend. I stuck firm to the 120k p ST and 150k p LT because I was willing to walk away and all of them caved in, eventually. One even argued in the morning. They told me that they often get 200k p for LT nowadays. I even over heard a couple of deals being sealed at 200k p LT and 150k p ST. I bet a year from now this will be standard price. Unfortunately, not everyone reads this web site.
Mongers - many gringos, way too many. In a few years, it is going to be as bad as Rio. We are loud but the Italians are worse. Good not to be at the bottom of the likability scale.
Places - LDV was hopping most of the days, the slow day being Sunday. Last time the pros were upstairs in Tu Candela. This time they were everywhere and a lot more of them. La Trippletera was still sparcely populated and mostly with men. The lookers were few and far between. Giro Matto, the music is just not for me specially at 3-4am at night.
Motels - found a few walk-in motels in the old city for 30k p to 40k p a night. A couple of them were pretty decent. Did not ask for the short term rate. In the evening there was a steady stream of young Colombian lovers walking in, cute. As soon as I remember the names I will post them.
Apartments - Paid $50 per night for a nice apartment with a view AC included hot water excluded.

CGFE is a new term to be added to the mongerer's list of abbreviations which either means "Columbian girlfriend experience" or "clingy girlfriend experience". Take your pick. They might be synonymous, anyway.
Took the door-to-door shuttle from Barranquilla to Cartagena de Indias for COP 25,000, which the reception desk of Hotel Boulevard 58 had arranged for me. You pay directly to the cab driver, pick-up at the hotel and transportation to your final destination. Trip time was roughly 2.5 hours, longer than excepted, and the driver certainly was not related to Juan Pablo Montoya (and the 60-year old lady from Bogotá in the front seat kept bitching about it). There was one military checkpoint just outside of Cartagena, but they waved us through. Left Barranquilla at around 4:PM, and arrived in Cartagena shortly after dark. As we made our way down the Cartagena waterfront, the streets were flooded pretty badly. Brought back flashbacks from Barranquilla, and yes, the intel I had gotten was correct… it had rained quite heavily in Cartagena, too.
Stayed at the Hotel da Pietro (http://www.pietro.com, website in Spanish, English, and Italian) after calling them from Barranquilla on the very same day. Da Pietro is located in a pretty busy section of Bocagrande, very close to Laguito. The address is Carrera 3 No.4-401, phone numbers (5) 665-2369, 665-8855, 665-1837, email hotel@pietro.com. Room cost was COP 95,000, breakfast included. Upon check-in, they asked for payment for the first night. The room was sort of smallish, but adequate. There are pictures on the website.
Cartagena is much more touristy than Barranquilla, which has its pros and cons, of course – as well as the pros and con artists. There are several inexpensive restaurants in this area (which does not necessarily include the adjoining Pizzeria da Pietro, owned by the same guy as the hotel, whose name is… not surprisingly… Pietro.). Needless to say, he was Italian, and both pizzeria and hotel were full of Italians (plus a pretty hard-partying group of young Colombians). There are several ATMs just around the corner from the hotel that worked for me, including BanSuperior (COP 400,000 withdrawal) and Colmena (COP 200,000 withdrawal). Surprisingly, I never ever hit the jackpot at Bancolombia. There is also no shortage of Internet/phone places in this area as well as supermarkets, drug stores, souvenir stores, etc. The front desk of the hotel can arrange for excursions and most common tourist activities. Unlike Barranquilla, you won’t get bored during the day. Also, the heat is not quite as suffocating… at least, it didn’t seem to me. Or maybe my body was simply adjusting a bit.
Cartagena is really a pretty interesting town – a strange combination of the “walled city” (what Havana would look like if they had repaired or painted anything in what, 200 years), the Miami beach-like Bocagrande area, and a touch of Vegas thrown in for good measure. The old town is superb, to say the least, and easily in the category of the French quarter in New Orleans. Cab from/to Bocagrande should run about COP 3,500 to 4,500. Spend a least a full day there exploring the streets. Better even, make it a morning and an afternoon on different days, after mixing in some beach action. It’s also interesting in the early evening. For later evening, stick to Bocagrande. I wasn’t too impressed with the beaches.
One afternoon, I took a chiva city tour (COP 25,000), which takes you to the Botas Viejas monument and then on to La Popa - Convento de la Candelaria, the church and convent overlooking the city. The driver might have been Montoya in disguise as we were screeching through the curves on the way up there. In ever curve, there was a white cross – they later explained to us they were stations for a religious procession up the hill, not fatal accident sites. I wouldn’t bet on it. Next, it was on to the Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas fortress (pretty impressive), the Bóvedas (former stables converted into souvenir shops and artists' studios) and, to top things of, a visit to an emerald factory (actually, just around the corner from the da Pietro). Of course. They did a drawing for a small emerald there, one for the gals, one for the guys, and everyone had to call out a number. The first guy, an American who didn’t speak any Spanish, called out 7… and got it. I just wanted to stab the guy. Insider sources tell me the guy got mugged by an Austrian tourist right outside five minutes later. No, just kidding.
Did another night tour on a chiva, of the rumbera variety, cost COP 25,000 per person. Went with a non-pro (the second time I went out with her), and it was a lot of fun. For those that are not familiar with the concept, a chiva rumbera is basically a colorful party bus, and the tour takes from about 7 to midnight. They provide you with a bottle of rum (Tres Esquinas) plus a bottle of coke per couple, put a live band on the bus, and off you go. First stop at the city walls for dancing in the dark, with a dance show, second stop at a local disco in El Laguito for some more partying. The bus went directly on the beach… really cool. In between, you just drive around getting hammered: you finish your bottle, you get another one. To ensure that people wouldn’t change seats (or booze) during the trip, all the rows have an inscription on the roof to assist you in finding your seat even under the influence. Mine read “La adolescencia es la transición entre la infelididad y el adulterio”. In plain English: “Adolescence is the transition from infidelity to adultery”. How appropriate.
My companion didn’t seen to disagree, because when we got back to the hotel at around midnight, she insisted on checking out the in-room facilities, and da Pietro didn’t see a problem, either (at no extra charge). She ended up checking out a whole lot more than that (and me, too), before finally leaving at 2:00 AM (you know, the good girl thing). Highly recommended (the chiva rumbera tour, I mean). Horny chicks and booze, works like a charm every time.
For next day, I had booked at tour to the Rosario islands, and she wanted to come along, so we went. COP 50,000 per person, though this does not include the entrance fee into the natural park (about COP 8,400, if I remember correctly, payable at the tourist dock right across the street from the Torre del Reloj downtown). I also recommend the Acuario San Martin (entrance COP 12,000 per person). The show where they are feeding the sharks is really pretty eerie. Spent most of the time on the Isla de la Media Naranja (“Soul Mate Island”... was fate trying to tell me something?) Very relaxed, nice turquoise waters to swim, no snorkeling, though. The by now self-anointed Cartagenera girl friend bought a crab from a local fisher and had him prepare it right there and then (COP 20,000). Nice. I highly recommend this excursion.
One really cool restaurant my attachment took me to was the Club de Pesca in Manga, Fuerte de San Sebastian del Pastelillo, phone 660 58 63 - 660 70 65 - 660 45 94, fax: 660 59 81, email: restaurante@clubdepesca.com. Their website is in Spanish and English (http://www.clubdepesca.com/home.htm). The restaurant is located directly on the fort and has a very nice terrace overlooking Cartagena Bay, pretty pricy, needless to say, and small portions. The place to take your special honey. Reservations recommended. According to their website, the restaurant has welcomed 46 Presidents or Chiefs of State and even served Pope Paul II. Makes it a must stop on any itinerary of any Catholic mongerers like me.
Ended up spending most of my time the next couple of days with my new accidental wife, hanging out in the old city, getting to know her family, exploring middle class Colombian life. One evening, some of her brothers and sisters took me to hang on the beach in Boquilla, past the airport, which was a nice experience. Pretty unforgettable sitting in the dark between two minivans blasting Vallenato and Champeta into the Cartagena night, drinking beer under the stars. One brother kept telling me about his cab and bus company, referring to his mid-sized buses as “busetas”. I guess I must have spent too much time in Brazil, where “buceta” has a totally different meaning :). I am sure this irony eluded him, and maybe that’s why he kept wondering about the strange smile on my face.
And as nice as his sister certainly was, unfortunately, she was severely curtailing my P4P research time. This problem was compounded by the fact that she was on vacation at the time and that I was in Cartagena longer than initially planned. Wanted to spend some time in Cali and/or Medellin, but flights from either Cartagena or Barranquilla to either city were in the COP 600,000 to COP 1,000,000 range for my travel dates (November 25-28), so I ultimately decided to skip this part of the trip and leave it for another time. I also thought about spending time in Santa Marta, but my GF’s family had business there, and every time I wanted to go, she was keen on accompanying me (which would have defeated my P4P and non-pro interests there). Managed to spend some time away from her back in Barranquilla ultimately to spend time with my other non-pro, but she was sweet enough to see me off in BAR before I left to the airport. But what am I complaining about – I was getting laid for free and pretty good. Still, I never got around to meeting my chick from Caracas that was there attending a conference and had expressed great interesting in displaying her brand-new silicon tits for me, nor this cute dark morena girl at the modeling agency. Damn. I guess you can’t have everything… though trying sure is fun.
As the “heartless mongerer” that Dollar Bill always describes me, of course, I was not going to let a GF entirely prevent me from exploring Cartagena’s nightlife a bit more, and I actually got started before I even met her in person. Afterwards, investigating P4P meant spending some late-night hours for the benefit of the ISG community. But lucky me, I am resourceful :)
One more thing, before I address Cartagena P4P: getting back to BAR was just as easy as getting to Cartagena: COP 25,000 for door-to-door service, although this time, transportation was done in a minivan rather than in a cab. Hotel front desk arranged for it. I left Cartagena at 2:00 PM and was in my hotel room in Barranquilla by 4:00 PM. There were definitely more military checkpoints during the day, five to six, although we got stopped only once, right before getting into Barranquilla, on the outskirts. Had to leave the van, and the soldiers did a cursory search. No ID asked for, no words exchanged, as a matter of fact.

the day i got to cartagena i decided to take it easy that night and not call any of my three non-pros i had met on amigos.com, so i had a leisurely dinner, determined to check out the famed la dolce vita afterwards. cab ride to ldv was cop 4,000, though actually, it was within a 5 – 10 minutes walking distance from my bocagrande hotel. ldv is located right next to the la perla del caribe casino, and of course, every cab driver knows it.
one quick note now that i think about it: there are laws in colombia regarding sexual tourism and exploitation of minors, and as reported to me by some colombians, cartagena has had bad reports in the past. you can read about this law at http://www.cartagenacaribe.com/quienes-somos/ley679-3agosto2001.pdf. according to article 2 of the law 679 dated august 3, 2001, a minor is anyone who has yet to complete 18 years of age. though i didn't see any pro in cartagena that would raise concerns about being ****, just make sure you stay out of trouble, ok?
ok, on to la dolce vita. i went at about 10:30 on a tuesday evening, and the place was dead. perhaps two customers and maybe four girls. things don’t start going until about 11:30 and not really until 12:30. ldv shuts down at 3:30. no entrance fee, no minimum consumption. at peak time, there were about 40-50 girls there, looks 6 to 9, with very few 5s and a few 10s. the place was dim, though, and my eyes might be failing me.
for those of you who know help in rio de janeiro, la dolce vita is sort of a mini-help, with much less girls, of course, but overall better looking ones, and no entrance fee. for those who are familiar with the now defunct cosmos in boca chica, dominican republic, it’s comparable in terms of number of girls and general setup, also, though the girls were less aggressive, and ldv (or cartagena, for that matter) doesn’t have the wild west feeling of cosmos or boca chica. in other words, just like a regular club – with the caveat that all the girls in there are pros, and all the customers are potential johns and almost exclusively foreigners. drink prices are not all that bad (cop 6,000 for a club colombia, cop 7,000 for rum).
the first time i went, i ended up talking quite some time to a girl from medellin. young, tall, very slim, and actually quite pleasant to talk to. not exactly my cup of tea, but i wanted to check the place out first and foremost, and i wasn’t necessarily playing on my first night. she ultimately offered cop 150,000 for two hours at the hotel, cop 200,000 to 250,000 for tln. as a matter of fact, what was funny was that every time i asked something that required a number in her answer, she would type if for me on her cell phone keypad. not sure what was up with that, but didn’t matter to me - i was more interested in the information. at those rates, i passed. she mentioned that after closing time, most girls would hang out at giromatic (spelling?), in case i changed my mind. i didn’t. she felt entitled to ask for a tip for her time, though (cop 20,000). i wasn’t impressed.
went back a second time, on a friday, though late (around 1:30 am), and the place must have thinned out considerably. there were about 20 girls there. ended up talking to angela, a caleña with a great 9 body. offered cop 200,000 tln, 150,000 for an hour, and when i said no, she mentioned “well, it’s more like a colombian hour, which means like two”: lol. i countered with cop 100,000. she looked at me in pretty well-acted disbelief. she said “you don’t think i know what i am worth?”, to which i responded “yeah, but i don’t know, and at that rate, unfortunately, we will never find out.” she said “you know, i am not good at this negotiating thing.” “you’re not exactly a novice, either. just like me”, i replied. actually, we had a good laugh at this whole thing, and i guess we developed something like a hardcore pro vs. hardcore monger type of respect. i would probably have gone for cop 120,000, though she was unwilling to come down any further. in any case, she was pleasant enough to just drink and chat with. of course, she asked for cab money. no problem with me… i’ve spent a more unpleasant couple of hours with a gorgeous latina.
the impression i got from these two girls and a few other ones i talked to at ldv was that, make no mistake about it, they were definitely hardcore pros in every sense of the word who specialize in the more inexperienced gringo market. like elsewhere in latin countries, hardcore does not necessarily refer to how you are treated (the girls were very nice and pleasant), just to their preferred price segment and negotiating strategies. as a matter of fact, as someone who has spent months talking to help/veranda sobre as ondas pros in rio, it struck me just how identical the walk and talk was, and in a way, it was sort of fascinating to hear it in spanish rather than in portuguese for a change. still, ldv is a nice place to hang out, and the selection of girls is definitely worth checking out even if you don’t take anyone. even if you do, the rates the girls command do not compare unfavorably to help or the main rio termas at the current exchange rates (with the real at approx. 2.20 per usd and cop at more or less 2,000 per usd, prices are easy to compare).
the very first time i walked out of ldv my very first night in cartagena, a few of the girls sitting outside kept hitting me up, but i wasn’t really interested. during my cab ride to the hotel, the cabbie suggested another place that was open until 4 in the morning where girls were available to do the deed for cop 70,000. it was about 2, he had piqued my interest, so i said let’s go.

So we are off at 2, in search of this allegedly cheaper option. First mistake of mine was not to ask the cab driver where this place was, as it happened to be very far from Bocagrande, on the very outskirts of Cartagena on the road to Barranquilla, past the airport, past Boquilla even. On the way there, we passed through some pretty rough-and-tough looking areas. I am not squeamish about bad barrios, having been to some wild sections of Santo Domingo and in remote areas in Northern Brazil, but I was getting increasingly concerned, and Cartagena has some pretty desolate areas. We even went through what seemed like a barely lit industrial zone. Luckily, this guy was at least honest enough not trying to rob me or worse. He had his chance.
We finally arrived at this place, called Venus. There were a few other cabbies hanging outside the place, but at this point in time, I felt it was safest to have the LDV cabbie stay with me. By the time we arrived, it was about 2:30. The place was still going strong, with about 10 girls, 5-8 in looks, some definite cuties. Several customers, all Columbian, of course (the girls had a total look of bewilderment at the sight of a gringo which sort of made me laugh and eased the tension a bit). When I stepped inside, they all stared at me as if a Martian had walked in. Overall, the place was not unfriendly, the whole experience was just a bit uncomfortable for me. They had a stage area behind sliding glass doors, and the time I spent there, one girl did a striptease, though of the uninspired variety, but several girls offered me to sit closer to the stage. Ultimately, I ended up talking to three girls, and one particular morena got very cuddly and touchy with me. They wanted to share a bottle of rum for COP 40,000, but it was late, so I declined. Ultimately, I had two beers, one for the cabbie, and one drink for the girls, plus cigarettes. The three girls ended up ripping through my smokes in about half an hour. Total bill came to COP 40,000 – a total ripoff, but I was not gonna argue in this joint and in that area. Probably set up by the bar guy and the cabbie. Whatever, write it off under experience. When I inquired about rates, the girls quoted me COP 120,000 for an hour. Whoever had mentioned that it would be COP 70,000 for a gringo? My morena, a 6.5 in my book, nothing more, gave me her phone number to spend time with her the next day, but I never called. Gringo drink prices, gringo pussy prices. You get the picture.
Back in Bocagrande by about 4:00 AM, the cabbie wanted COP 40,000 for the cab ride. I gave him COP 20,000 an exited the cab quickly. Total damage COP 60,000 for exactly nothing.
Lesson learned: don’t take any suggestions by a cabbie standing outside a place like LDV catering almost exclusively to the gringo crowd. These cabbies specialize in overcharging gringos just as much as the girls, and I heed this advice myself all the time at Help in Rio, for example. I don’t really know why I didn’t this time, but now I got one more reason to not forget about it in the future. Especially, don’t agree to go to a place unless you know where it is. I guess I must have been thinking with my dick again. Now that I think about it with my actual head, while I am not really too concerned about dropping COP 60,000 for a lesson, this whole experience actually might have turned out really, really nasty. This was the kind of place that if something happens to you, nobody will ever ever find out.
But anyhow. A couple of days later, I was sitting around the corner from the Hotel da Pietro at a local supermarket around 11:30 AM, sipping a coke, when one of the local touts approaches me, offering me watches to buy. I wasn’t interested, but we started to chit chat a bit, and he asked me about how I liked the girls in Colombia. I mentioned LDV and that the girls were nice, but a bit expensive, and that I was looking for cheaper options. He replied that he knew a few girls and could arrange for me to meet them. Where? At the beach or at some café in Laguito. Off we went. He had me wait for about five minutes, then he came back with another guy who said that the girls were elsewhere in the city right now and needed to take a cab to see me. How much? COP 20,000. No fucking way. OK, COP 10,000. No way. I told him, no money whatsoever until I see the girls, if they couldn’t get here, I would look else where. The second tout left, and since my original guy (Fernando) mentioned that he knew some places in the downtown area, we took off.
Just across the street from the Parque Centenario, he had me wait again in a bar, and came back with a Cartagenera girl, about 28, about five minutes later. Nothing special, not really up to my standards, but not Botero-looking either, and I was horny. Cost? COP 40,000 for an hour, and that included the room. Couldn’t complain. Took me to a non-descript love motel in a side street off Calle del la Media Luna; room cost was COP 6,000, including two condoms (yep, 3 bucks total, guys). Not to shabby, actually, with a shower and running water. Performance was good, no FK, everything covered, didn’t insist on BBBJ, one pop. Ultimately, decided to pay for the room, so total cost was COP 46,000, or USD 23.00.
After this first relatively encouraging experience, I inquired a bit more, and Fernando suggested another bar with girls hanging out, on Tripita y Media, but in the Matuna area, if I remember correctly. When we got there, around 1ish, there were no girls there, but the mama-san insisted that they were arriving shortly. Of course, as always, “shortly” is a fairly flexible concept in Colombia and can mean anything from right now to a few hours. So I stayed there, had a couple of drinks and just chatted with Fernando and the mama-san, definitely an old hag, but very friendly, like almost all Colombians. In a way, this hole in a wall places have always fascinated me since my first experience in Cuba. Well, I didn’t do so bad, because about an hour later, this 23-year old dark morena shows up, again from Cali, very nice, about a 7, and with a great attitude. Can you tell I am developing a preference for caleñas by now? COP 40,000 for the hour. Had a beer and left to another love motel, again COP 6,000. Great in the sack, borderline GFE, with BBBJ, covered sex, one pop. Exactly what I wanted. The name of the place was Siboney, if I remember correctly.
Back in Bocagrande, I gave Fernando a COP 20,000 tip for his services (he spent about 4 hours with me). I was happy. Total cost for two pops with two different girls, love motels, cab rides, drinks, and tip about COP 125,000, or roughly USD. 60. The slumming experience, priceless. And the next time, it would be cheaper.
Unfortunately, in a way, my promising cartagenera mongering experience was halted completely by the non-pro, as this was the day I went on the chiva rumbera tour with her and hit the sheets with her afterwards. By the time she left, I thought that after popping two pros and a non-pro on the same day, I had earned myself a couple of Aguilas, so I sat in the street shortly after 2 around the corner of Carrera 3 No.4, across from Bancolombia. About 3, a black girl approached me to offer her services. She said she normally worked the La Perla Casino and LDV, but had had no luck that day. Quoted COP 50,000 for ST. Well, what a short distance from the gringo joints will do to pricing. Sounded tempting, but after three chicks, half a bottle of rum on the chiva, and a few more beers, and having to get up for the Island tour at 7, I was sorry to decline. I hoped to see her again another day, but to my regret, I didn’t. Too busy getting nailed by the non-pro.
Ran into Fernando a few more times, and he wanted to take me back to Siboney and similar places later during the day or in the evening, possibly (at which time it might not be entirely safe there for sunburnt gringos like me), but I was just too tied up. So until I return, I’ll have to leave that part of more in-depth investigative reporting to my fellow mongerers :).

It is good to see some actual chica information again on the Cartagena board. The deal on the casas outside of town is that the taxi drivers all get kickbacks. Ever notice how they all wait for you outside the casa? I don't know the exact amount.
Next time you get into a taxi and ask to go to the casas, notice the grin the driver gets on his face. He is getting a large fair to take you 15-30 minutes outside of town, plus return trip. Also the kickback at the end and maybe a beer from a newbie. Add this to the cost of a girl, room fee,plus drinks and you're up around 200,000. pesos. Duration 4-5 days, all food included. Price: an incredibly low USD 250.00 (!!!!), with a minimum of four passengers required. Something to lighten the mood. Just back from 10 days here where I introduced my young amigo to Colombia and in particular La Dulce Vita on the first night. The beach in Cartagena is average. Monday thru friday the beach is dead, it will be you and the touts. Sat. is better, Sunday is the big day. A lot of families, sellers and chicas. It is definitely not Rio, many of the people swim with t-shirts on! Working girls usually start arriving around 2:00 in the afternoon. Would not pay more than 60,000 pesos for daytime. I found daytime action there slow, much more options at night. At night you have centro, bocagrande and LDV. Talent at LDV is almost always good. She treats Americans very well, she is not too fond of the Italians, because they thrash her units, make noise all night and run around all coked up... The prices being quoted are ridiculous, but i am sure can be lowered with effective bargiaining (in Spanish). But these are still ominous indicators of how Cartagena has changed over the last 3 or 4 years due to the influx from the North.

I stayed with Mery last April and was also very pleased.
The apartment actually had a doorman to keep the girls OUT, or the Americans would be overwhelmed with chicas at the door. He just wasn't very good at it.

I had several surprise knocks in my week there, at least one a day.

I once stayed at the apartment complex right next door to Las Americas (Los Morros) - it's VERY far away from the action - Bocagrande and Laguito - but I liked that.
There are virtually no touts on the beach - and Las Americas has a great beach set-up. So if you are looking for a relaxing time on a virtually secluded beach, Las Americas is your place. I had a great time at Los Morros - but I was with my novia. When we wanted to go into the old city we'd take a taxi - it's about 20 minutes from there.

Especially since you speak Spanish, you'll have no trouble finding willing chicas at La Dolce Vita in Laguito. I did the same thing when a chica from Medellin was visiting me three years ago. We hit LDV, and I let her choose.
Rather than trying to find any particular chica, just hit LDV after midnight any night.
A second option would be to hang around on the beach nearest LDV on Sat. and especially Sun. Sunday is the big beach day of the week.

Paisa = A female from Medellin (mostly light skinned and blond).
Cachaca = A female from Bogota.
Costeña = A female from the Carribbean coast of Colombia (like Cartagena, Barranquilla).
So they are actually city-specific and regional designations rather than referring to skin type.

I was planning on spending only $40-50 USD on a room (yeah, I know I'm a miser), so it looks like an apartment might be my best bet. If I can't find an apt, I might stay at hotel Da Pietro. Also with that large of a crew check out renting a few Penthouses, look for TOM 33 post, he has listed a Juan Ventura as a guy to see. For a bachelor party I think LDV would be a lame choice. Now if none of Flyjets group speaks good Spanish, BAQ could be a challenge BUT for a bachelor party you want strippers and sexy entertainment. That does NOT occur at LDV.
There are no full on US style strip clubs in Colombia where lapdances are the norm. The closest would be clubs in BOG, MDE and CLO. Nothing on the coast is that organized IMHO.
A better idea, IMHO, would be to have the party at an apartment and hire a bunch of girls to come in and perform. SOMEBODY should go in advance to audition them. As I will pass through CTG for at least a night or two on the way elsewhere within the next 10 days, I offer to undertake the task. My fees are very reasonable (actually I'd do it just for the fun of it!). Seriously, Flyjets, I can talk to some people in CTG to arrange several honeys for your party. PM me (soon) if interested.

I just returned from my second trip to Cartagena in a few years. The city was my first stop on my first trip to Colombia a few years ago and I recall enjoying myself. Since that time I have come to know Medellin very well, and been spoiled by it, and on this second trip I could not stand Cartagena.
My main beef is with the touts, many of whom I would have shot in the knee caps if I had been armed. They completely ruin daytime activities in the city for me, as there is almost nowhere you can go where some persistent asshole isn't trying to sell you a T-shirt, bracelets, emeralds, fake rolex watches, etc. The taxi drivers also tend towards the shifty side, and even my hotel (San Martin) made a 200,000 peso "mistake" on my bill which I spent 20 minutes fighting with them over.
As for mongering, I did check out LDV and the selection was about as good as I remember it. No need to elaborate more on that place. More interestingly, I met a 19-year-old redhead (with freckled and everything) in the plaza in front of Tu Candela, who has about the best body I have ever seen in my life! Perfect large firm natural breasts, perky round ass, flat tight stomach-- I mean 15 on a scale of 1 to 10. When she quoted my 150,000 for a short time, I didn't even blink and took her right back to the hotel. Service was good, a little pro but friendly.
Also, I went to get a massage at a legitimate salon inside the Hotel Dorado in Bocagrande and was delighted to get a fantastic happy ending with a little BBBJ thrown in. The woman who gave the massage (which was excellent!) was a little older, but her experience showed with the HJ. If you want to check this place out, go to the Hotel Dorado Peluqueria/Salon and ask for Vicky.
Last night I was back in Medellin and a girl I was with left her nice new leather bag in the back of a taxi. Half an hour later the taxi driver showed back up after discovering the bag. Hit CTG last week and hooked up with TOM 33, and the man knows his shit! Not much to report but yes boys and girls you can get todo la noche at LDV for well under $150K! I just returned from my second trip to Cartagena in a few years. The city was my first stop on my first trip to Colombia a few years ago and I recall enjoying myself. Since that time I have come to know Medellin very well, and been spoiled by it, and on this second trip I could not stand Cartagena.
My main beef is with the touts, many of whom I would have shot in the knee caps if I had been armed. They completely ruin daytime activities in the city for me, as there is almost nowhere you can go where some persistent asshole isn't trying to sell you a T-shirt, bracelets, emeralds, fake rolex watches, etc. The taxi drivers also tend towards the shifty side, and even my hotel (San Martin) made a 200,000 peso "mistake" on my bill which I spent 20 minutes fighting with them over.
As for mongering, I did check out LDV and the selection was about as good as I remember it. No need to elaborate more on that place.
Because the touts are so terrible, I try to spend a couple of days in Cartagena, then travel on to Medellin for the rest of the trip. Usually Avianca has a special with the "free stopover" or will give you a cheap ticket if you tell them you want to spend a couple of days in Cartagena with continuation on to Medellin.

After my last three month stay in Cartagena I might have to head to other cities. I agree with you guys, the touts are unreal. Some days I can take it and other days it makes me crazy. How many times can you hear, Amigo! My friend! , cuban cigars! All in a bad english accent. I realize they are just trying to make a living but after they follow you for 2-3 blocks it gets alittle old. Also have you noticed they always seem to have promotions going on? LOL.
The one thing that really gets me is when you are trying to eat and they roll up on you and stick the sunglasses in front of your food and stand there. Thank the monger gods that the country is filled with hot chicas! Sorry for venting here guys, but the post on the Cartagena tout got me going!

When she quoted my 150,000 for a short time, I didn't even blink and took her right back to the hotel. Service was good, a little pro but friendly.
Also, I went to get a massage at a legitimate salon inside the Hotel Dorado in Bocagrande and was delighted to get a fantastic happy ending with a little BBBJ thrown in. The woman who gave the massage (which was excellent!) was a little older, but her experience showed with the HJ. Last night I was back in Medellin and a girl I was with left her nice new leather bag in the back of a taxi. Half an hour later the taxi driver showed back up after discovering the bag. My girl was delighted, and so was I. I turned to some guys at the bar and said "This is why I love Medellin, people like this."
Yes, I have similar experiences with the touts. I wanted to punch Tony the Tout the first time I met him. You have to treat the tout's like little children, kindly discipling them, then ignoring them, NEVER SHOW ANY INTEREST IN ANY OF THE TOUT'S GOODS, ONCE YOU SHOW ANY INTEREST, YOU ARE A MARKED MAN. I also want to kick Alex the husslers ass, he is a real piece of shit. he also works a scam with a smokin hot puta named Kelly. He is a loudmouth punk always bragging that he is friends with John , the owner of the Hotel del rey in Costa Rica, who the hell cares.......
I also always rent an apartment from mery, and I use Alex the taxi driver ( not the same Alex as mentioned above) and have no problems. Alex the taxi driver takes care of a lot of errands and other shit for me, and has always been fair to me.
I've been back from Colombia for a three days now and everything has settled in so I decided to write this report. First off, I want to thank everyone on this board that helped me make the decision to go to Colombia and secondly for giving me all of the good advice and information that made my trip such a success.
I started the trip by securing four things. Number one, a flight on Copa Airlines from LAX to Cartagena and a return from Medellin to LAX. This flight was a decent choice because it left late at night (12:15) and arrived in Cartagena in the afternoon, which was better in my opinion than many flights that landed at night. The only issue was the 5 hour layover in Panama before flying onto Cartagena (but we make the best of it as I explain below). The price was OK at about $600, considering the different departure city than the arrival city. The second thing I secured was an apartment in Cartagena from Juan Ventura using the website CartagenaPenthouse.com site. The third thing was dates at Aussie Greg's mansion. The last thing I got was a flight from Cartagena to Medellin on Avianca airlines. It was less than $100.00. Now I was ready for my first trip to Colombia.
So the trip is myself and a friend, both of us in our upper thirties. We both really enjoy partying and of course chicas so Colombia seemed like the perfect location. The trip was a total of 12 days, 6 in Cartagena and 6 in Medellin.
We start off by flying to Panama and arriving there around 10:00 in the morning. We have 5 hours to blow before the flight to CTG, the airport is very boring so we pay our $5 visa fee and head for Panama City. I had asked on the Panama boards for infomation about a massage place we could go at that time of day for a shower and quicky before we hit the realtime in CTG. A member told me about a place called Oasis Spa that opened at 11:00am and was next to a new, nice casino, so that is where we headed to. We got down there in about 20 minutes from the airport and with a cab fare of about $25. We get to the casino and get dropped off, right next to the casino is Oasis but it is still closed. So we head into the casino to check it out and have a Panamanian beer. We go back out around 11:15 and the place is still closed, even though the sign on the door said open at 11:00am. We hung out until 11:30 and there was no action at all, so we started thinking about heading back to the airport with no shower or morning fix. We walked toward the street and that is when we met Jack. Jack was a funny cab driver who spoke pretty good English and was always talking shit. On the way to the airport my buddy asked him where all of the girls were and he said he would take us to a place if we wanted. It was a bit risky but we said sure, we still had 2.5 hours before the flight and were ready for some action at that point. Jack drives us through a neighborhood and down a long driveway to a message house with a sign on the door that said Royal Elegance, We walked inside and saw there were about 4 girls hanging out that we could choose from. I would rate them between 5 and 6's, nothing too great, but considering the time and the need for a shower we both took a girl and headed to a room. It was a decent session costing about $60.00, it was worth it. We finished and Jack took us back to the airport with still an hour before our flight. This was way better than sitting at the airport for 5 hours!
We landed in CTG at 3:30, and was met at the airport by Alex the cab driver who Juan arranged for me when I rented the Penthouse from him. Alex took us to the penthouse and honked at every cute girl along the way.. We walked into the penthouse and the doorman gave us the keys and we headed up to the thirteenth floor. The place was nice, but was very expensive at $300 a night. It did have three bedrooms but there was only 2 of us so one room went to waste the whole trip. It was still cheaper than both of us renting a room at the Hilton and it did have some perks like a large Jacuzzi and full kitchen. Juan came over later that day and we settled up for the apartment, he seems like a nice guy, he spoke good English and was willing to help with some basic information about the town. We changed clothes and headed out for walk to start exploring. We walked around the concrete jungle of Lagunita and into Boca Grande. We also walked on the beach for while before stopping for something to eat. Along this walk we saw quite a few girls but only a few that seemed like they were working. It was now time to head back to the room, chill out for awhile and get ready to hit LDV for the night.
La Dolce Vita is located right next to a casino and is easy to find plus everyone knows where it is just ask and anyone can tell you. We got there around 10:00pm and they place was starting to fill up with girls. By 11:30 or so there was probably around 40 girls on a Thursday night. The range of talent was anywhere from 5 or 6 all the way up to some 9.5’s with most of the girls being a 7.5 to 8.5. The way LDV works is that most of the girls just stand around, some dance a bit by themselves, but overall ignore people unless they are approached. Some of the girls flirt with you a bit, but they rarely approach you unless you call them over. It was kind of nice not being bothered while you are making your decision and having a few drinks getting ready for your night. The girls would ask for 200,000 to 250,000 per night. A few times I gave them $100 US and they would be happy with that.
All six of the nights we spent in CTG we had a party at the penthouse with multiple girls. None of the girls really stood out as much as a girl named Valentina. She was 20 years old, from Medellin and was always the life of the party. This girl would always have multiple friends that would join us each night and it seemed like every night the party and sex got better. We saw the sun rise every night, sometimes we would party until 9 am. I spent a few of my nights with Valentina but would also do one of her friends at some point during the night. The Jacuzzi came in real handy many nights, we always kept a full bottle of Buchanan’s whiskey on hand, it seemed like every girl wanted to drink whiskey and that was their drink of choice. Tuesday night was out last night in town so we decided to give Pleyboy a shot. We were starting to get too well known at LDV, so it was time for change. We hired a cab that was recommended by our doorman, to wait for us while we were in the club. It cost about $30 for him to wait for us for the whole night while we checked out the talent at Pleyboy. The talent at Pleyboy was good, the club was mostly full of Colombian guys, so we were very welcomed when we got in there. There were about 12 girls there that night with 5 or 6 being in the 9 range and the rest varying between 6 and 8. My friend and myself each grabbed a girl from there and took them back to the penthouse for a final fling before our trip to Medellin. That was a fun night, the two girls we choose we not only beautiful, but we wild as hell, it was a great last night!
The next day we packed up and headed for the airport and our Avianca flight to Medellin. CTG was a huge success but we were ready to step up the program in Medellin. The second half of my report I will post very soon in Aussie Greg’s forum, it only got better from this point forward, and I did not think that was even possible!!

Riker is right, $100. 00 US. Was too much. Most will go for 150, 000. Pesos or around $70. 00 U. S, all night.
Also $300. 00 a night is hard to believe in Columbia for an apartment. $2000. 00 US dollars for a week! that's crazy! Mr Ventura must be enjoying himself this week. Maybe I will start renting apartments there. Also, the taxi's will wait for you for free outside the casas, as they get a kick back from what you spent there. You couldn't have chased him off with a stick!
Sprinters, or guys that go down for a week seem to have a budget they feel they have to get rid off.
Dude, I don't mean to be too hard on ya, thanks for the report but next time try negotiating alittle. For the marathon guys who are down for months at a time, or who live there, we have to live with the prices.

I still peruse the Colombia section from time to time and I'm ooking forward to getting back sometime next summer. Bucaramanga was a fun trip when I went a couple of years ago- I wish I would have had more time to explore the city!
In the short term, I'm off to Chisinau, Moldova to see what's happening there.
$150/person/night for a primo 3 bedroom Apt. with a Jacuzzi is a lot better deal than, say, the Santa Clara. And you're not going to find any 9's or 10's in San Jose that will spend toda la noche for $100. Admittedly, a lot of times the extra money doesn't make any difference in performance. But sometimes it does. If the woman thinks you're going to continue paying her an above market price, she's going to want to provide repeat business. And if she's got any sense, she should know the best way to do that is with great service.
And 225,000 pesos sounds pretty good to me for an all nighter with a drop dead gorgeous, passionate chica. I've never pulled one from LDV for less than 100,000, and majority of times it's been for less than TLN. But I have to admit I don't have the patience or negotiating abilities of Zippy et al either.

downright comfortable like I NEVER remember. Prices are REALLY climbing (never went to LDV but HEARD about asking prices). If Zippy can still get all nighters from LDV for 80K I will be REALLY impressed. His Bucaramanga report is still the gold standard for that rarely discussed city. I keep planning on getting up there but old favorites keep intervening. A nice pair from Perriera met on the beach in CTG.

Again,there is no reason to pay 225,000. pesos por LTN.Just got back from a 4 month stay there and i would say 80% of the girls will go all night for 150,000.Short term 100,000pesos. There are always some who will not budge from some crazy price.I just laugh and move on,you will always find another hot one there.There are hundreds of posts saying 150,000. pesos for the whole night,i don't understand why people keep trying to throw out the 200,000p and above.
Also maybe this info can help;when i first got there i went to LDV.I was approched by a couple of chicas who wanted to party.Both were cute but alittle on the skinny side.I told them i only pay 80,000. to get rid of them,which worked. After about a month of them seeing me there all the time they asked why i never took them,i said because i pay 80,000. They said lets go!I did both of them at different times,and both ended up being very good in bed.Also picked a couple nice ones off outside LDV on the benches,one hot one said because it is early she would go for 80,000.It can be done,but for the most part i would say Short Term is 100,000.Hope this helps.

So far looks as if the party will be happening on the 23rd of april and maybe the 24th and 25th as well all depends on three things the size of the party and some logistic help from TOM 33, he has yet to accept his new mission, sorry to but you on the spot TOM 33, but the pressure in on dude!

no one will get tln from ldv for 100k unless you scrape the dregs. i picked one out there and asked what she wanted for short time. she replied 200k. i thanked her and walked. last night a buddy and i found a couple on the street for 60k each and had a nice 4-person orgy.
it doesn't matter to me what anyone pays. it's your money.

and people still try and deny how much all the internet exposure (and huge increase in number of sex tourists) has changed cartagena over the last few years. shaking head emoticon
add to that the fact that a dollar only buys 2200 pesos now, as opposed to 2,900 a couple years back, sales tax is now 16% and prices for everything are rising (taxis want 4k from laguito to boca grande!). ctg is no longer any type of bargain.
Well, all I know is my own experiences and the following is absolutely true- I was in Cartagena in October and December of '05 (even had a pizza at El Gringo Loco) for a total of 28 days and I had no problem pulling hot chicas from LDV or La Tripeliterra for 100-125 toda la noche. And from the photos I see on here posted regularly, in general, I would say that I'm probably more picky than most mongers.
I usually discuss price (if I don't know the gal) before the deed now, though, because the days of 80,000 toda la noche are apparently gone, but there are always exceptions if she likes you enough.
Now, Tiny brings up an important point- I am very patient and I quickly blow off the sharks who think that their cuca is made of gold. I have no problema saying, "Chao!" while I find that most uninformed mongers at the LDV for some reason get there sights set on one particular chica and they just cave.
The bottom line is that it is a buyer's market (maybe not like 3, 4, 5 years ago but it is still a buyer's market) and I can tell from conversing with the LDV chicas on my recent trips that they are not used to being rejected after quoting their ridiculous first or second offers.
I must admit that I especially enjoy sending away members of the "Medellin mafia" who have been conditioned by a hoard of newbies that simply because they are from Medellin, they are entitled to a higher price. It's so funny to me during negotiation when they exclaim, "Pero soy de MEDELLIN!" or "Soy una Paisa!"- like this is supposed to impress me. I usually retort with, "Entonces no te quiero porque las chicas de Medellion estan malas en la cama!" They usually go off in a huff after that which is fine by me (glad I weeded them out- go to Racer's table! Just pulling your chain, Racer!). :-)
On a side note, I met 3 chicas in the LDV who claimed they were Paisas who confided to me later that they were not, in fact, from Medellin or anywhere near it. They find this to be an effective way to demand more money. Incidentally, they were light-skinned girls from Bucaramanga, Monteria, and Barranquilla.
Hey, it is your money and there are many variables that play into what a chica wants to charge you. And let's face it, if you're not very appealing physically, don't take care of yourself, are not respectful of different cultures/to people in general, don't speak the language even marginally, well then... you're NOT a very good candidate for a discount! :-)
I hope everyone who visits Cartagena has good luck finding hot chicas at reasonable prices for a fun time. I've become pretty disillustioned with the P4P scene in Cartagena whether it be LDV, La Trip, the beach, or the casas. I envy people like Tom and Gringo Loco who don't have to bother with these institutions much any more. On my latest trip, I even flew in a non-pro from Popayan just because I wanted to try something different. I have to say it was a good investment in the end!

Obviously, the better spanish, the better in shape and the more charming you are, the easier to bond with a chica and make pricing secondary.

my only talent is 3d year Spanish, and i never did the homework. I am normally obnoxious in personality, and 30 lbs overweight, plus at 50 I could look younger.
My best attribute is my wallet. I also enjoy dancing with the girls at LDV, even if they are whoors. At least there is some genuiness on the dance floor, and if they let you buy them a drink or dance with them you can usually have sex with them.
I should also add that most of my "mongering buddies" in Cartagena are over 50 and they do great there simply because they are very cool guys and the chicas feel very comfortable around them!
I totally agree with Zippy's post, and methods (although I am MUCH younger than his friends in CTG LOL!). I also agree with Ricker that once a Colombiana decides she likes you they can be hard tro shake. I REALLY seek a middle ground between ST tryst and lifelong soulmate, but it is hard as lots of encounters end up at one of these extremes.
The Paisa premium does not fly with me as I generally prefer darker chicas. This last trip I found an INCREDIBLE % of pros claiming they are from Pereira. At Pleyboy Club, which was the most fun place to hang out with pros I've found in CTG, 16 out of the 20+ girls claimed to be from Periera. I suspect it to be a sales ploy akin to the Medellin thing.
I do understand that deals can be found in Colombia, but I do not care about that. Before I get flamed for being the guy who runs up the prices in Colombia, try to consider a few things. When I am on vacation I expect to spend considerable amounts of money, that is why I work hard all year. I did not go to Colombia to "get a deal" I went there to have a new experience and to score as many hot chicas as possible. One thing I am not into is arguing over 20 bucks with some chick when I am drunk and wanting to have a good time.
I have to admit I have a hard time dealing with the balance of what they "should" get paid and what I am willing to pay. For me a $100 is nothing for a great night with a super hot chick, but I do understand the complaint that because of gingos like me prices are higher..
Do people really feel that Chicas will not take the lower prices "deal seeking" gringos offer and go home without any $$?
If the comments about the $$ I spent are trying to help me out I do not care, if they are to help keep prices down, I am not sure how valid that argument is?

Surfer, disagree with you a little as far as rising prices go! I started coming to CTG mid 2004, price I paid for a room was $25 x two guys sharing a two bedroom. The price today is $37.50 for that same two bedroom!
Price of food the same, the price of Chicas has gone up for me 20%, price of buying a place, forget about it! For the miost part the prices have gone up with inflation and Bush's dumb ass! As far as the word getting out about Colombia, hell surfer could you really not tell someone about that perfect wave and how to find it? I for one love sharing and when it gets all fucked up, I'll move on or complain about all the gringos, hell I love a challenge

I would have to agree with surfer here, Cartagena is not a great value, when compared with the rest of Columbia. It is the most expensive city due to the fact it is a large tourist spot. All the other cities I have stayed in there are much cheaper for lodging, chicas, and food.

I stayed at the Almirante for a week last year and also dealt with the '5 am rule' that they have. I didn't mind it with pros since I'm always ST with them anyway. But later in the stay I had a steadier girl and it was more of a problem. But if you have a clingy girl it makes a good excuse to get her out of the room. All in all this place is a VERY qualified girl friendly. Most of these high-end hotels get more family business so I guess they don't want a parade of working girls.
I was lucky not to have any hot water or pressure problems while I was there. But you're right that the Almirante oversells itself. I would give it a 4-star if in a generous mood. This is not only my first real life report; it’s also my first experience in this business. A few hours ago, a zero experience became a 1 out of probably a thousand. I’m ok since I know I had to pay for that first point. Read on.
As I mentioned previously, the first night I went to Babar and found no action. The second night I studied the posts on the forum and slept. The third night I went to LDV with a friend.
We got to LDV at midnight. We are nice young guys and two nice chicas approached and started dancing in front of us expecting any kind of response, however they did not talk to us at all. We did not give them any response, we even changed the sight when they looked at us. We were just starting to understand the place.
LDV has no cover to enter and no charge for exiting with a girl. You have to buy a drink for you and if you want to dance or chat with a girl, she will ask you to buy her another drink. The prices are not as expensive as one would expect for a place like this.
From about 40 girls, the two dancing in front of us could be considered 3rd and 4th. We were having a nice time looking at them and around. After somebody picked them up, we left LDV heading to Tu Candela.
Tu Candela is a nice place. There is a cover but if you insist you are going to buy a lot of drinks or a scotch bottle, the cover could be avoided. Probably 80% of the girls are working. The rest are non-pros having fun and some of them will end with someone in their bed for free.

They asked COP400k and took me about 5 minutes to get them down to COP350k for at least until 5AM (due to my hotel restrictions). After I made my intentions as clear as Isla del Rosario’s water, they started dancing a lot hotter. Touched and teased me all the way long. That was one of the best parts of the night.
Okay. Here is the deal I missed. If after starting the price conversation and getting them to 350 I’d took them to Tu Candela or Babar, I’m sure I would be going to get both of them for 300k or less and I’m sure I would have enjoyed a very interesting night with those nice girls hot-dancing for me for about 2 hours.
None of that happened. I was ok with 350k for the 3rd and 4th nicer girls of the place, going out together. It won't be long before $100usd will become standard in LDV. With the influx of mongers in Cartagena, it is inevitable. Theres no use blaming one guy. I have been visiting Colombia for 7 years now, most of the time going to CTG. First visit to LDV was when it was located by Sofitel Santa Clara. LDV is the "Blue Marlin" of CTG. It has the best pros with the highest prices. It has been a couple of years since I have gone there and maybe 3 years since I paid for a chica from LDV. She cost me 60K for TLN, but it was her first night there and I got to her before the other chicas did :-) She wanted 100K.
But since Tom 33 has been living there, I would think that he knows the prices. Since he says 60k for short time that would be your bottom price for something half-way decent.

I know sometimes they try to rush you but the chicks are not at all nasty like you mentioned. They are on fire hott! The nasty ones charge from 10 to 20 us dollars and those are the SW at Cauhilla. The volume TJ gets is crazy since it is a border town with Cali, and the prices still are very stable. All I am trying to say is there is a cause and affect due to you over paying. We all sufffer! I have not been there lately. But a guy who was visiting a couple of weeks ago went there several times and liked it better than LDV.
What is a CBP? I use COPs. You can get nice stuff for 50K if you negotiate hard. I usually pay 60. You can find an occasional stray that is nice for 40K. I don't really want anything for less. I will confess to getting one in Centro for 30K last fall. She was not the best-early 30s, heavy make-up. Guess I just wanted to see if I could get one for 30.
If you wanted to take several armed bodyguards along, you may be able to score cheaper stuff in Getsemani late at night or in some of the poorer barrios. Hunting by taxi is an option.

I posted a lot of different photos of chicas in the Cali, Medellin, Medellin Mansion, Cartagena, and even Panama sections.

As I wrote in an earlier detailed travel report about Cartagena, on my first trip to CTG and to Colombia, actually, back in November 2005, I found some freelancers that were willing to do ST for COP 40,000, including one that was young, slim, pretty, with good attitude, and a hammer in the sack. I also remember a girl in the Laguito area that frequented the El Caribe casino and LDV who offered me ST for COP 50,000 very late one night (didn´t take her up on her offer, though, unfortunately). So yes, COP 40,000 to 50,000 is definitely still a possibility these days. How common is it? I really do not know.
This board is for the exchange of information between mongers on the issue of sex with women. As such, I appreciate ANY kind of information on the issue, in any price range, whether this information is actually useful for me personally or not. Recently, there was a guy in the Sao Paulo, Brazil section (Ghengis Khan), who wrote a series of high-roller reports where he would spend up to 500 bucks TLN for a girl, for example (and one grand per day budgets). Since I am sort of a low roller, I seriously doubt that this information will ever be of practical value to me, even if I ever win the lottery... or 99.99% of other mongers here, as a matter of fact. It all comes down to one thing here: QUALITY information. So if Uncazadores states "You should be paying from 25K to 50K CBP", my question would be this: when did you pay that much, where, how long, how many pops, how were the looks (in your subjective book, of course), how was the performance (in your subjective assessment), and the overall attitude? Got any pictures to show, so others can check the looks themselves? Now that would help the next guy!
But bickering a la "your cheap hoes are uglier than mine" is really pretty silly and pointless, because it contains nothing of value to anyone. It only serves to justify one guy´s personal preferences/financial means over another´s. It´s like saying "I am smarter than you financially AND have better taste in women". I really fail to see any value in that.
On a final note: most of the reports on this board are always about the same handfull of gringo-frequented joints, and that´s why these pricing issues always surface every few months or so (because everybody has been there and paid different rates). My rationale for seeking to get away from these places is generally to get more of a local flavor (after all, mongers are not all entirely foreign, and if I travel to a foreign country, I actually try to get away from other foreigners) and to report on some places that have not yet been extensively covered here ad nauseam, to provide more comprehensive options for my fellow mongers. Now, if someone doesn´t wanna go to the same places, cool with me! You say potato, I say potatoe!!
Remember, guys: ultimately, it all comes down to YOUR best bang for YOUR buck. Whatever YOUR best bang or YOUR best buck may be. And there´s no one that knows that better than YOU. So read the board, remember what´s useful for you to get what you want, remember what´s useful for you to avoid what you don´t want, and discard the rest. And report your experiences here.

LDV is still going strong. The talent of girls is still nice, though not quite what it was when I visited this time last year. Drink prices have not changed but the girls ask more now.
I went looking for less expensive options last night. And out of blind luck, I found a girl who was hotter than any of the ones in LDV. Read on.
Tried Casa de Marino first. Don't bother with this place. They ask 60k for the room, plus whatever the girl wants. The first girl I spoke to pitched at 130k including the room. So it doesn't really work out any cheaper than LDV and the girls are not that hot. I left immediately.
Asked the taxi driver to take me to somewhere more popular. He advised against the following place for safety reasons. But for me with Colombia experience and speaking Spanish it was fine.
The place is called Corronchas, and is in El Bosque, tell the taxi driver it's in front of "Suprema" (hope I remembered that right). Beer is 2k. Most of the girls were skanky, but there was one hot Adriana Lima type, who I would rate an easy 8.5 or maybe 9. Just a perfect example of a colombiana with a gorgeous smile, this is the kind that we travel all this way for.
Had a couple of beers with her, swapped the usual compliments, and negotiated for 1.5 hours, 70k for her and 35k for the room. Off to the room, and she gives me a great session with total GFE and damn does she have a pretty face. I ended up giving her 80k. She will be moving on from this place shortly, she says.
I have a feeling the room should be cheaper than it was, they do try and gouge a little bit at times. This place is not for everyone, the room is pretty basic and they are not so hot on details like clean sheets etc. You can take the girl out for a bar fine of 50k, if you want.
I would not necessarily recommend this place. It might work for you, though, if you speak Spanish and don't mind looking in to see what the quality of girls is like that night and have a beer or two. Maybe hit it a little earlier than LDV or Tripletera, like about 10pm or so.
Sometimes you just get lucky. In the end I did not pay much less than LDV prices, but I got a great experience.

I unfortunately was in Cartagena for 1 night, but paid for 3 nights (I mean I slept there for 3 nights). I booked a 1bd apt through Juan Ventura. My experience with him was really pleasant and I would use his services again. I rented a 1bd room apt on the 7th floor in Laguito for 100k per night (Paid 47$ via Paypal, the remaining 200k in cash later).
Arrived at CTG around 11pm and took a taxi to Laguito. I was quoted 13k (Cartagena taxis don't use meters) and I didn't argue (Juan said it should cost between 10-15k). In reality, it should cost between 10-12k for any night trip.
Checked in and I was exhausted so I went to bed. The next morning, I took one of those buses that circle around Laguito and Centro and beyond for 800-1000 COP (cheaper than the 3500-4000k for taxi). Walked around Centro, and got cash from Citibank (I found out that there is a 24hour ATM with Citibank located in BocaGrande in the Blockbuster (not listed in the Citibank website).
Took the bus back to Laguito, and went for a walk on the beach in BocaGrande.
At around 930pm on the Friday night, I headed over to LDV, which is a 5min walk from the apartment. There were about 10 girls here, and about 5 guys. I purchased a bottle of beer (6k COP), and sat down by myself and just checked the goods. For the most part, the girls looked liked hardened pros, and a number of them were augmented (something I didn't like). Unlike in TJ or in Rio, you have to wave/invite the girl to come sit with you. I am still not used to just checking out the goods because if I were to do that in TJ/Rio and you lock eyes with the girl, the girl wil come over and it'll be hard to shake them (I guess I'm still a newbie to this).

Being exhausted from being drunk all day and traveling by Invertours to Barranquilla and taking the bus back to Cartagena, I wasn't in the mood for a session, but I figure I would take a walk to LDV to see what the action was like late saturday night. Cachorro: I agree on what you say about hitting "the path less travelled"....I think perhaps we should start reporting more on the lesser known places for those of us who are either: more adventure/risk taking, know the local language or are bored with the same old places.
We could start an addition to the list (for any country/city) and qualify the places as being good for newbies, good if you speak the local language, etc.
I for one plan on hitting the usual places since is my first trip but I will most definetely check out the non-touristy places.

CTG is the blackest bigger city in Colombia. If you want black and can't find it here, you are the problem.
TS - the night taxi fare from the airport to Laguito is 12K. The daytime fare is 11.5K. If you want to walk 2 blocks from the airport, the fare is around 7K. If you have more than carry on luggage, you should tip 1 or 2K.
LDV will not be open for business on Friday, Saturday and Sunday this weekend.
This is due to the elections and a government ban on alcohol sales during election time.

While I THINK Tom meant that the local population in CTG tends towards darker shades, among the working girls there are PLENTY in every large city in Colombia (and no higher % in Cartagena than elsewhere except maybe Medellin).
Re taxi fares from airport, while they ask 12K they will take 10K. Just start walking out towards the taxi stand Tom mentioned and they will fight each other to get that 10K (unless it is a particularly busy time but I NEVER had a problem paying 10k). Just going from Laguito to Almirante I've had them try and charge 4K but I just drop the 3K and say, in Spanish, I know the prices" and walk off. Sometimes the guy may curse you as you walk away but just ignore it. If it REALLY gets ugly say you'll call the police to mediate (and the driver will invariably back down). That being said, I wouldn't try it alone, late at night, in El Bosque, and don't YOU try to take advantage of them (they earn VERY little: I pay my trusted drivers ABOVE the going rate).
Re banning alcohol around election time: MOST Latin countries do that. Come to think of it, I think USA should try it as if everybody was sober on election day, maybe they wouldn't vote for the morons we have had running this country (into the ground) for the last 5 years!

After I figured out that the going rate is 10-12k at night, I was getting into the Cartagena Bus "Terminal," which is really far away from Laguito (it seemed like a 20 min taxi ride) at 1am. I walked out into the line of waiting taxis, and I asked if they would go to Laguito for 10 mil. Most of the taxi guys reponded with 12k, and I would just go on to the next guy. Shortly thereafter, a taxi guy I approached early ran up to me and agreed to 10k (he mentioned to the other taxi guys that he was heading in that direction anyways).

I always walk a couple of blocks from the airport and then hail one of many cabs. I say 7 mill pesos, Laguito. Sometimes they counter 8 mil but usually they accept.
On the way to the airport I never say airport. I always say Crespo circa airopuerto. 7 mil. If you say Crespo, the part of Cartagena where the airport is, they will charge you local prices, not tourist prices.
I save a couple bucks for the girls. I had a nice girl from LDV for 50,000 pesos. BBBJ and CIM but no actual intercourse. I renegotiated with her when she would not do my favorite position (secret). Either 50,000 or get the fuck out.
I also stay in apartments, not hotels. Now I am staying in Tocahagua, half a block from LDV, an ocean front remodeled, for 70,000 pesos, about $30 a night. It is low season, so you do not need a reservation. Just showup and there will be many apartments available. There is a small cafe below the building, ask for Susie for an ocean view and she will rent to you. She speaks some English as her husband works in Miami for 6 months of the year. You can also rent in this building for $50 a night from www.cartagenaapartments.com I have rented the unit on 6th floor and had a nice time there and no problems with the paypal reservation system. Keep your receipt and call the number listed for your checkin time. One of the girls speaks perfect English.
I used to rent from Mery Salence, but Susie will rent for about half Mery´s price, at Colombiano prices. Mery charges gringo prices of $55-60 and adds on her fee of about $10-15 a night.
Then I go to the Hilton and use their gym and pool all day. Never have I been questioned. Use the gringo factor to your advantage, if you can. Often I buy lunch there, so they get their money from me at the restaurant and poolside from drinks.
I also get alot of free airline tickets from using credit cards, frequent flier miles and bumps. If you book the direct flight to and from Cart. it is almost guaranteed the flight on return will be overbooked and you can be rerouted thru Bogota in a couple hours and receive a free international Avianca ticket.
I have not bought a ticket now for my last 2 trips and have another free American Airlines ticket next month from credit card purchases. I am in construction and charge all the materials and services I can on my A.A. card.

Just an FYI that Mery charges 15% of the rent to manage her apts. and I usually pay USD $50-75 per night for her apts (depending on the season, availability, etc.). The vast majority are all completely remodeled and in quality buildings. Plus, Mery is ALWAYS there should something not work, etc. which I know from experience most Colombians will not. Juan is good in this way also.

Thats exactly my point. Guys have been paying sky rocket prices and in resulting the prices have been upped tremendously. Granted I have only been to Colombia twice once in Medellin and once in Bogota. When I was there 8 years ago you would bag a 10++ easy for the prices I have quoted. I have longed to go back since I divorced my colombian wife and this year is my year. I shall be mongering in those neck of the woods again. I am by no way on a 10 dollar budget guy when I go. But guys need to realize you are paying these broads salarys of heart surgeons for crying outloud.

Cheers!I have stayed a couple of times in the Tocagua building. Susie is very nice and all. But make sure you check the apartment carefully before making any payment. In the first apartment I stayed in, the kitchen was infested with roaches, I mean just unfreaken believable. I made the mistake of paying upfront since a buddy of mine refered her to me.
When traveling abroad, it is normal to encounter a few flying friends here and there, but Jesus, it sucks to be worried about a roach on the wall right over the head of the gal you are pounding, getting ready to make a nose dive right into the action.
Second visit, I checked things out carefully, and all was good(different apartment). So I would visit Tocagua again, and rent from Susie again, but check things out carefully, for example, open oven door, kitchen cabinets, and check out bathrooms.
Don't know if I will be back anytime soon to Cartagena, from what I have read in the last couple of months, prices are getting out of hand. Good luck to all.
Actually it happens a little more often than that. The Presidential elections will be held on May 28. Same deal. No alcohol sales from midnight Friday through midnight Monday.

The average taxi driver earns about $400 a month, double the normal wage for Colombia. Of course many of them work 12-14 hours a day, by choice. Usually they get 2 or 3 days off a month, without pay, which is required by the city laws on a rotation basis from the last number of their license plate. It is their business and after they pay the daily rental fee of about $20 they are free to drive it as long as they like. The owner also must pay for health insurance for the driver. If they can overcharge a couple of thousand pesos on each trip it will add up, 100% as profit in their pocket, and alot of drivers in Cartegena try to overcharge, especially gringos at night from clubs. If you are nice to them they will think of some way to overcharge you. Its best to be on guard. They are not your friend, and will try to overcharge you if they can. They have no loyalty to you whatsoever.
Only pay the minimum and ask what it is before getting in the cab. Often if you stop at an ATM or make another stop on the way they will try to charge you double the minimum, or charge you for wait time. Ask before you get in.
How do I know? I own several taxis in Medellin. Colombians would die for a taxi job and would not prejudice their opportunity by robbing an american or getting in trouble with the law, but overcharging small amounts, YES.
The city regulates the number of taxis on the streets so there are not too many or too few. IT IS complicated to buy a taxi, but not impossible.
Please note that I have nothing bad to say about Mery, it is the gringo owners that set the price, expecting gringo customers to pay that fee per night.
I have also rented from www.cartagenaapartments.com and had a good exerience with them. No problems bringing in a different girl everynight. Of course I am not loud and do not have real wild parties, only parties for 2. You pay in advance by paypal and should bring your receipt with you to get properly credited for your deposit. One of the girls with their company speaks perfect English, I cannot recall her name, but after you reserve the aparmtent on the internet you should call the number on the website and speak English, they will transfer your call to this girl right away and you can schedule a checkin time at the aparmtent lobby where you are staying 45 minutes after your flight is scheduled to come in. They will meet you at 11pm in the night, as they did for me.
You can save by renting from an administrator who normally rents to Colombians, and they have rental offices in almost every apartment of Laguito. Especially during slow season, prices are about half what you would pay with Mery. If you are in Cart for a week or more it does add up!

The example being that going to Laguito from the airport at night. The taxi guy said 13k (normally 12k). I didn't feel like arguing with him at 1130pm so I said okay.
I don't want to add the precedence that tourists/gringos = easy target to ripoff. I want to basically let them know that I know that I may look like a tourist, but I am not easy to rip off. It is just the principle.
I have a rule that if the taxi guy asks for a tip, I'm not giving him one (automatically). He is asking me becomes he knows that I'm a tourists. I don't think he would dare ask a Colombian guy for a tip. Basically I don't trust any taxi drivers in any country, and (like NGY477 said) one needs to be always on guard.
And yes, I know that I'm bargaining of a couple of mil pesos and I'm blowing 100k on a girl at LDV, but then I'm not paying 200-300k as the girls ask for sometimes. I'll pay the "reasonable" going rate for an LDV girl (thus the research on ISG) and I'll also pay the "reasonable" going rate for a taxi/hotel/whatever.

Ngp477 is corect,just by walking into the edificios(apartment buildings) you can eliminate the middle man,or woman.your choice,your money.
Other than finding chicas,finding an apartment is the second easiest thing in Cartagena.If you have any doubts go to the middle of Laguito in the daytime,step out of the taxi with your suitcase and yell"apartamentos".Be ready for a tout stampede.I would not suggest using one of these individuals.
I used one when i first starting going there and i did find a nice apartment.The problem was that whenever i went outside somehow he would appear and ask for the dreaded propina(tip).Whatever you give them will not be enough.also, they get a kick back from the owner of the apartment for bringing you to them.This will not stop them from asking for a tip,again and again.
Again, by just walking around and asking the rental offices or front desk you can get the best deals.Hope this helps!
Thats true! Finding an apartment is easy in Cartagena. There are plenty of adequate one bedroom apartments for 80-100k. You can find one in 2 minutes.
just came back from a launch ride to Terra Bomba, about 7 minutes from the Hilton. More adventure than a trip to Isla Rosario and NO VENDORS!
Some of the inhabitants were walking around without clothes, others in their underwear. Because I was with my lady, I did not inquire about sex, but I would guess it is pretty cheap. Most of the inhabitant sit around their partially finished cement block homes watching the day go by. There is one small store on the island and a couple of churches. One girl came up to me as if she had never seen a white person before, and tried to touch my arm. The ripe scent drew me away quickly. A guide took us to Playa Linda about 25 minutes away, I gave him 3,000 tip. I guess Playa Linda is a generic name on most every island.
You negotiate with the launch owners and all their friends over the cost of the boat ride. Cost is about 20,000 pesos round trip. We went with one launch guy over there, he wanted to charge 20,000 pesos and was to come back to pick us up in an hour. I was to pay him 20,000 on the way back for both ways. When he did not come back we waited an extra 15 minutes, he never showed, and then went back with another launch guy for only 8,000 pesos. May never see the first guy.
