You can walk from Centro to Laguito. I would guess that it's around 2 to 3 miles. The Bocagrande Penninsula buts right up to Centro.
The chicas don't speak much English, if any. But they are getting more used to foreigners. Bring a pen and paper. You can write down prices.
I'm not certain, but I think you will be okay with visitors at Tres Banderas.

I stopped by 3 Banderas a month ago, at the start of March. I was using a Lonely Planet Guide and checking out cheap places to stay in El Centro. My edition of the guide is three years old. From looking at that guide it seemed like you could get a room at 3 Banderas for $40. However, when I asked at the desk (which was nicely staffed with three girls, two of which giving my blue eyes a friendly vibe) a "small" room was running at $70.
I'm wondering what price you scored. When I priced it out in December I think a room was $55.
I was trying to find a cheap spot for a couple of nights, basically researching the cheapest possible place to stay in Cartagena where I could still be reasonably comfortable and secure. So, I walked out of 3 Banderas and kept looking for other options - based only on the price, it seemed like a nice place.
Anyway, I agree with Tom_33, but thought I would toss out this price information. My guess is the three girls do not staff the front desk after 11pm and whoever is there will help you in terms of getting girls through the door.
There are some $20 hotels in Bocogrande. These are located on Av San Martin. One street back from the main street in Bocogrande. Sometimes you'll find working girls live out of these hotels. They are not the best places to stay, but I have stayed in some of these places before and felt safe (your experience may be different), but I would not leave critical stuff in the rooms during the day; take a money-belt and a decoy wallet when you are walking around if you are thinking this sort of hotel would work for you.
Given your language situation, I suspect late at night you will feel safer in Bocogrande. There are also some more expensive options (~$70) on the main street in Bocogrande. These hotels are, in different degrees, girl-friendly - some places are indifferent, some will make you feel like a wayward child for dragging in a harlot, some may not care after a certain hour, some might tack on a fee if the girl is still with you in the AM.
But, after three nights in El Centro, you may feel comfortable there.
I think an apartment is, generally, good value, but as you know, it's hard to get a place like that for a short time.

If Hotel 3 Banderas is really $70/night, forget that idea. I personally prefer the hotels on San Martin back side of Boca Grande. Cheap, no issue with chicas, central, and walking distance to the beach... I.e. 5 minutes.... not 30-45 minutes.
Re your question about walking from El Centro to Boca Grande/Laguito. As Tom pointed out, it can be done... it's a few miles away. But why would you want to walk it when you can cab it for the equivalant of about $2US, get there about 30 minutes faster, and not have to sweat your balls off. If you like the fresh air, might I suggest taking one of those horse buggys in the evening. I'd do anything before I made that walk... horse buggy, bike, cab, even the bus. It's just so hot and well after a day at the beach you want to walk back to Centro?
Maybe it's just me, but going to a city with a beach... i.e. Cartagena and staying in el Centro, as opposed to on the beach, is the equivalent of taking the kids to Disney World Orlando and staying in a camper an hour away from the front gate and walking to the attractions each day as opposed staying in/around Disney. It'd be one thing if it were to save money... but people here have already pointed you to a hotel in Boca Grande for 3 times less than what you are paying in Centro... so not sure the reason for wanting to stay in el Centro. For $70 you can get oceanfront apartments on the beach... actually more like $50-60. They are simple to find... just walk down the street and go building to building asking for vacancy. It's simple, it's a better location, it will save you money over that $70 3 Banderas, and it will be much more enjoyable IMO.

Great summary, plus you forgot to mention walking amongst a group of drivers that won't even think about running your ass over.
It's hard to say which location is best without knowing what you want to do. If you just want to monger 24/7 then the Laguito apartment is your best bet.
Centro can be a nice change of pace... Laguito has nothing I really need to access, just a shit beach and lots of touts trying to scam a couple of bucks out of me.
If you do end up staying in Laguito, try and leave to visit the historical centre, it's worth it. Best appreciated between 5pm and 10pm, once the workers have left and the weather has cooled off. This is a good time to cruise for non-pro (or the shopping mall La Castellana between say 5pm and 8pm).
If you get stuck with a hotel that's not girl friendly, that need not put a dent in your mongering. Just take your girl to a motel like La Jaiba or La Cangreja in Crespo, where you pay by the hour and have everything you need for "sexy time".
If you are really having communication difficulties, you can show prices etc by keying into your cellphone. Remember to specify the time you want as part of the bargain (eg until 5am), otherwise it will be one shot and then out the door immediately.

I stayed at Torro Centura 403 beach front, air, hotwater, girl friendly, 24 hour security lets you in and out. I liked the beach there, got in the ocean every day, loved it. 50 bucks a night. The touts are a pain in the ass, just ignore them. Its 45 minutes to an hour walk from Laguito to Centro. Its a 5 minute walk to LDV. Hotel 3 Banderas is roughly 155kpesos/night. I now I feel like I am over paying, however, this being my first trip to Colombia and getting all the safety warnings I figured a hotel in the $50-$100 was worthwhile. I am all up for better deals, and so long as I can have safe and clean I am looking into your suggestions. I have already given Hotel 3 Banderas my credit card, but will see if I can lessen my stay there by a night or two to see if I can get an apartment for 3.
On an aside, the hotel was recommended to me by a Colombian alumnus from my college who lives in Bogotá. I looked him up in our online directory and sent him an e-mail. Given that I don’t know him, I didn’t want to mention that part of my interest in going to Cartagena was for the ladies. I expect that he thinks I am going there for the heritage and culture (which in truth is playing a large part). He thought I was a cheap for not wanting to stay at the Santa Clara while recommending to definitely stay away from Bocagrande as he termed the environment indistinguishable from Miami or Cancun.
From my investigation on this site, I realize the errors of my way and will work to correct them. I will follow up with Juan and colombiarental.net as you recommend.
I was never thinking of really walking the distance, but wasn’t sure if hotels were always prevalent and didn’t want to get stranded. I had heard that they are $2-5 dollars and definitely plan on taking them as I sweat easily in humid places.
I am really looking forward to my trip. From all your posts, I expect it to be great. My sex life has been in a six month frustrating dry spell and my birthday will occur while I am there. This is not quite correct. I don't have a good percentage, but it is much less than 90%. Over 75% of the tourist peso in CTG is spent by Colombian families. Colombian families frown upon our activities. And the hotels cater to the families. A fat, old guy like me with a hot 20-year-old really pisses them off.

Thanks again!Try going to the Caribe Hotel and go through the reception to the stores behind the pool and there is a dive shop there that will take you out on either scuba or snorkelling. Fairly limited on deep dives but worth a one day trip

Laguito has plenty of them up and down the main drag starting at the Hilton and moving towards LDV. fyi: June is the next high season.
When are you arriving? I will be back there in Cartagena on the 4th of may for a week and then I'm off to Quito, Ecuador for a week and then I'll be back in Cartagena again for the summer.
Pay attention to the noise levels. It can be bad at night in some places. Get as high up as possible (above the 8th floor) or face the ocean. I learned this lesson the hard way my first trip.

But looking at the math, the current rate for the peso is 2109/dollar. That means they're asking for 210K pesos. I was there last June, with an amazing guy/chica ratio, due to the World Cup soccer matches, and still many were asking then 200K with 300K TLN as starters. I took one chica for 150K, but ended up giving her 200K for an incredibly wild session, mas alla de la imaginacion por 2+ horas.
So this is not new, perhaps new to guys who haven't been there for a while and come back to sticker shock. On this board, people have been complaining about price inflation in LDV since May of 2003, almost since the thread started. We should probably track the "highest opening price" for ST (short term) and TLN (all night), it would be nice to track the highest and lowest prices paid, but not many guys are going to come clean after breaking the upper limits....my own feeling is that the biggest spenders may not even be sure how much they have paid when it's all over.

If you guys don't speak much Espanol, I highly suggest you go to Costa Rica rather than CTG. It's closer, the Del Rey is an experience not to be missed in your lifetime, and there's a lot more Ingles spoken there. In CTG, there's almost 0% Ingles spoken, among the chicas and most everyone else. yes I agree the Hotel Del rey is truly a place that no one should ever miss. san jose is much much safer at night also. I would not spend a lot of time in Sosua or Puerto Plata - the kiteboarding and windsurfing place is Cabarete. There's a whole international/young community there built around this. Wind is completely dead in Cartagena in August. The serious Colombian guys go to Ecuador in May and don't come back till November. In Cabarete, it's about as good as it gets in July and August. You can rent gear in Cabarete for these sports. There are a couple of outfitters in Cabarete that organize different types of outdoor tours around that area.
I've had some great experiences in the DR with girls. The crowd in Cabarete is international with a lot of people in their 20s, with any game you and your friends should be okay. If you need a sure thing there are options in both Cabarete and Sosua - Sosua is a bigger town with more options, more girls.
In August, there is more to do in Cabarete than in Cartagena. And if you are organizing a trip for other non-Spanish speakers DR is going to be less hastle for you.

based on the ticket prices you're quoting you have to be flying out of Miami, no way can you fly to Colombia or CR for 300 dollars. No way. No how.
the cheapest ticket to Colombia outside of Miami will run you $550 or so, with $125 of that being taxes.

the CR would be on bottom of my scale for young guys wanting to party it up, but it would be highest on scale of non Spanish speaking "gringo friendly".
I suppose being a fairly attractive youngster at the Del Ray will serve you better than being an old fart from Texas, but if one has that gift of youth, there are far far far better places to put it to use, even with hookers than San Jose and the Del Ray.

The mini-high season(school break) is over by July 20. And the summer high season doesn't affect prices that much.
So after all that thought I decided on CTG. We will be there in early August, just booked the tickets. Hopefully I will come back with some good stories for you guys. Now I just need to find a place to stay.

HunterAlso in July or August you can go and have fun, of course that is not a good moment cause prices are the double (hotel, apart girls etc)and selection of hirls is harder cause there are more turist customs form Spain, Italy and Canada. Better go in September-November or in February.
If you want gf experieance is better tha capital, or santiago de los caballeros, cause in Bocachica, sosua and all other turistic spots all girls are ***** or masked *****s, and all is less cheap than in other sides. But if you want to pay a lot to go with true profesional *****, yes sosusa and other turistic places are full of them!
I would not spend a lot of time in Sosua or Puerto Plata - the kiteboarding and windsurfing place is Cabarete. There's a whole international/young community there built around this. Wind is completely dead in Cartagena in August. The serious Colombian guys go to Ecuador in May and don't come back till November. In Cabarete, it's about as good as it gets in July and August. You can rent gear in Cabarete for these sports. There are a couple of outfitters in Cabarete that organize different types of outdoor tours around that area.
I've had some great experiences in the DR with girls. The crowd in Cabarete is international with a lot of people in their 20s, with any game you and your friends should be okay. If you need a sure thing there are options in both Cabarete and Sosua - Sosua is a bigger town with more options, more girls.
In August, there is more to do in Cabarete than in Cartagena. And if you are organizing a trip for other non-Spanish speakers DR is going to be less hastle for you.

I'm not in the US. When I get back I'll send you the website and phone #. If I forget, remind me. However, which event are you planning on going to see? The best is the swimsuit at the Hilton. Pluses and minuses... if you don't have a ticket there are scalpers trying to sell tickets 3 times over face value the days before all the way up to an hour before the event. The plus... wait till 5 minutes after it starts and you can get a ticket for half of face value... though since you are entering after it's started you won't get the best seat in the joint. I went last year and I can honestly say I probably would have been better off watching it on tv.

You may have a hard time getting them to respond, send an email once a day or call them and eventually you will hear back from them. If I recall, the tickets went on sale in July last year. I contacted them around November 1 and got put on the wait list for the bathing competition. Both the other events still had tickets available. Below is the email from my correspondence with them on November 1 last year. Note... since the bathing competition was sold out and that is the one I really wanted to see, I aked around quite a bit in Cartagena. There were scalpers all over el Laguito, trying to get me to pay anywhere from 200k pesos to 350k pesos the 48 hours leading up to the event. I didnt budge. 10 minutes before the bathing competition began you could get tickets for 150k pesos. After the event began... you could get tickets for 80k pesos of less. However, it is good that you are trying to get them early as youd much prefer to have your own tickets as opposed to 1) paying a huge price to scalpers or 2) having to wait till after it starts... sure you will get a great price... (below face value), but your seat will suck. You want to get in there an hour before it starts.

There is also a short parade in Boca Grande or Laguito like the Thursday (1st day) I wasnt there yet and something they do on boats on Friday or Saturday and as Tom33 poiinted out they build some sort of seating deal for the boat thing that they do... Desfile in banos is at the Hilton... any attire. This sells out first.
Coronacion is at the conventions center. It's a black tie dinner and the final night. LAst year there were still tickets availbable up until the day before.
The desfile de banos is also televised on local TV in Cartagena an hour or 2 after the event starts.
Also, there are other "parties". I.e. I went to the Hihlton the day of the defile de banos and all the gals were there. I couldn't get in, I think it was for guests of the Hilton only. No big deal. The thing you want to see is the desfile de bano. If you are going to stay through Tuesday you might want to go see the Coronation also. Other than that, the discos at night over the weekend and the desfile de bano competition is the fun part.
It is a fun weekend as everything as all the discos are packed wall to wall. too crowded in fact. See email below. Hope this helps.

Ah and your comment about sophistication and wealth. the majority of the poeple at the coronation will all be wealthy Colombianos or possibly some extrnajeros. You won't stick out much at an event like this from a wealth prospective. It will be people with $$$ at the coronation.

i stayed for a few days at a cheap hotel in getsemaní- 30,000 with a/c. this area has plenty of short time hotels and street walkers (some ****) at night asking 20,000. i think some gringos would be uncomfortable on the back streets after dark.
my mongering time in ctg was cut short by a severe, 48 hour fever.
below are photos of andrea from the casa rocio in bruselas. she's from merida, venezuela and was in spain for a short time, where she met a drug dealer from cali. she told me she was going to cali in 2 weeks to marry him, so if that's correct she's no longer in ctg. the price was 120,000 for 60 minutes plus a few joints- this girl likes to smoke. that's more than i like to pay but i was a little drunk and quite enamored with this chica. bbbj, no anal.

i stayed for a few days at a cheap hotel in getsemaní- 30,000 with a/c. this area has plenty of short time hotels and street walkers (some ****) at night asking 20,000. i think some gringos would be uncomfortable on the back streets after dark.
jeez, you like to live on the edge. no gringos should be on those back streets after dark. most of centro is safe, but getsemani is not. avenida media luna is puta central after 9:00 pm. you can go hunting there, but stay inside the taxi.
Went to Bodytech gym in Bocagrande. It compares favorably with most US gyms. There's a hottie named Blanca working the front desk. A one day pass costs 20,000. A week pass costs 80,000 and may also be used in MDE, BOG, and elsewhere.
After the gym i walked down to the beach around noon. I already knew the beach itself was forgettable but i wanted to see some chicas. I found none. However, i'm ignorant as to where the beach chicas are in Laguito and Bocagrande. The tout that brought me beers was no help. I had to argue with the tout as i refused to pay more than 2,000 for the beer. I got bored and left after an hour.
A taxi driver gave me the digits for Erica, the 24 year old pictured below. I thought she was really cute but she doesn't come out too well in photos. Contact info is available. I met her by the clock tower, we went and drank some beers at Donde Fidel (a little beer hall on a nearby corner), and then went to a love hotel in the walled city. After an hour there, she went home to shower up and change clothes and she came back around 7 pm. Later that night we went to La Jaiba, which i found to be a nice place to take a chica- private and secure. They had one of those exercise chairs but i found that it wasn't really convenient for any positions. I gave Erica 90,000 for the entire afternoon and evening.
I don't like laguito and bocagrande, but i love the flavor and history of the rest of the city. But it isn't worth a trip just for the mongering. The daytime options are limited. There are few low-price casa options. In general, the chica prices are a little too inflated for me.

While in Cartagena I am going to have to have some tailoring and alterations done on some new clothes I purchased for my trip, so does anyone familiar with Cartagena have a recommendation where I can go and have several things done. The cost to have them done in the U.S, which is where I presently am at is rediculous, $30.00 to have a shirt taken in, and $25.00 to have the legs of a pair of pants shortened, and I have about 10 shirts and 4 pairs of pants, so this is a alot of money. Look in the phone book when you get there under "sastreria." There are a couple of them in Laguito. However, you will get a better deal in Centro. Also, you could ask a taxi to take you to a sastreria in Centro.
Just make sure its a shop and not a booth.
A few years ago there was German guy who gave one of those booths a genuine Rolex to repair.
When he returned the booth had gone, I wonder why.

Thanks Tom on the information on the Hotel Decameron. I just left Cartagena and have returned to Floridablanca. By the way the liquor is free too at the hotel. It certainly is the perfect plce to taKE your girlfriend who has children.The only complaint i have is the street vendonswho hang around the around the hotel and on the beach. They can be very aggressive.
Been in Shanghai for a really really long time and i get a call from my girl from Cali. So i decided to make the insane 20+ hour trip from China to Colombia to meet her for a week long vacation. But since I'm deathly pale I decided to fly her to Cartegena and meet there instead. Great time....great fun and great sex for the first time in a long long time. The women just can't move like that in China.
One night she decided to turn in early and i decide to go to casino......Didn't know next door would be the imfamous LDV. I would say the quality is not great but right as you walk in are a group of hotties from Medellin...They are obviously the hottest group of girls in the place. My company wanted me to stay in Shanghai for 2 more year but i just can't anymore. I will be making a field report upon my return from Cartagena, but the city is super!. I am actually looking into possibly buying a condo here, and spending a considerable amount of time in this beautiful city.
Just wanted to make a post to let the people inquiring about Carolina, that the Carolina featured in the pics is not working at LDV. I asked about her on a couple of occasions, and was told she is now in Panama. There is a beautiful really skinny blond named Carolina working there, and during the day she is on the beach doing her thing, on Playa Hollywood, sitting at a table with Tony no.1. She told me she has worked at LDV for 2 years. There is alot of action on the beach in Tony´s section, and the women are gorgous. Guys I highly suggest you checkout Divas inside the wall, in the area of Tu Candela, as well as another disco called Isa or something like that. My friend and I had a great time last night in Divas, scoring with a couple beautiful girls who were working the bar. We ended up taking them to Mr. Babillas, and then they wanted to spend the entire day with us today, but we are not looking for dates, for it is all about the hunt for us. :) They left around 10am and never asked for no money. My friends girl is a dental student who should be featured on the cover of Cosmopolitan Magazine, or some magazine dealing with models, as she was that beautiful. She was also the first girl I came across who spoke english. I highly suggest to anyone who is considering coming here to Cartagena or anywhere in Colombia, learn the language, as your trip will be disappoiting. Not much to add. But. Calolina is still in CTG. At least as of about 5 days ago. She plans on leaving for Panama sometime in September along with a small contingent of LDV regulars. The thinking being that they will work the Itallion tourist influx of August, but September in CTG is dead, so they will work Panama until at least November. When things pick up a little in CTG.
BTW. Does anyone know if Carolina was married to a gringo at some time? . Apparently (at least the claim is) she lived in the USA for awhile. Just wondering.

I stopped in LDV last night around 1:45am, and the place was loaded with high quality chicas. I was really surprised, as for the past week it has been really lame, and I personally was not impressed with the place at all. There was alot of breath taking beauty in there!!!. Outside of LDV, there were many chicas just sitting around, but of low quality. It was also very lively with chicas in Divas, Isas, and Tu Candel in the old city. Very active and fun night. I actually went back to Isas to get a freebie I had prearranged earlier in the evening named Katerina, who was from Barranquilla, who not only was gratis, but gave a very good GFE, which I am finding to be quite routine here! :D Seriously guys, if you have conversation you will find all the freebies you want in Cartagena, as the city is filled with beauty every place you go. I see and hear of so many guys paying 150,000 pesos plus for one or two hours, and this is rediculous. Do yourself a favor and develop some conversation, and at the very least negotiate if you are in to the paying thing.

I just arrived back in the States moments ago, as it is 12:00am. Thanks again Winner, Cachorro, Tom 33, and any others who provided me with information to make this trip a great experience. My field report is going to be labeled from hell to heaven and you will understand why as soon as I have time to write it!.
I had the opportunity to meet several mongers who were really cool, such as Jacque, JLuv, Zippy, and Hunter.
I would like to extend a big THANK YOU to Hunter for his great hospitality and friendship. He not only picked up the check for me and a novia on a couple of occasions, he had us dining at an superior restaurant in the old city named Pacos, which provided us with an outstanding dining experience. He also was VERY HELPFUL in my apartment rental, and I encourage everyone to contact him if you are looking for apartment accomdations in Cartagena or Medellin.

My destination started on a Thursday in the United States, on Continental Airlines with a flight delay of one hour. After this one-hour delay my flight took me into Houston which turned out to be a nightmare, as it was also delayed at the same time as many of their other flights due to weather, leaving a long line at the customer service counter, with fliers trying to change flight itineries e. T. C. After standing at a customer service line for approximately 45 minutes, I was told our flight was still going to go on to Panama, where I would still have an opportunity to catch my Copa flight in to Cartagena. When I told the customer service rep that there was no way I was going to get my connecting flight in Panama, she told me if this was the case I would be stranded in Panama until Saturday as all there flights were booked on Friday! I told her to put my friend and I on another airline that flies into Cartagena, as it was important that we arrived in Cartagena on Friday at the very latest. I suggested to the agent, Avianca, and she agreed to this, telling me and my friend we would be taking this flight on Friday morning. My friend and I then leave on our Continental flight from Houston arriving in Panama at approximately 10: 30pm, and finding no Continental representatives in sight. We approach a Copa flight representative who was still at a Copa gate and told her of our situation, and she tells us that we are booked on an Avianca flight not for Friday, but for Saturday, which is the complete opposite of what the Continental Representative told us in Houston, and furthermore, our flight was into Bogota, and then into Cartagena! She suggested we come out in the morning and try to fly standby on there Copa flight, even though it was overbooked, and to speak to a rep from Continental at this time. Since we could not find no Continental Representative available at this hour, we then started asking around at different car rental and hotel counters to find a hotel for the night that was near the entertainment district, as we wanted to party since we were already stranded. With the help of a propina, a guy from one of the car rental agencies started calling hotels, and everything is booked solid, with a going rate of $200. 00 dollars per night. After searching for about approximately 30 minutes, he locates us two hotel rooms at $85. 00 per night. We then take a taxi to this hotel, which for the sake of me I cannot remember. We get checked in and the place is dumpy and sure the hell not worth this kind of money, but we were stuck. We put our luggage in our rooms, get showered, and off we go to party, and lo and behold, this black cloud I had hanging over me from the initial late departure of the airplane continues with the mongering. Will write the next sequence of this story later.
Wow.. this exact same thing happened to me about 4 years ago on my way to Colombia and I vowed I will never ever ever again go to Colombia via Panama. Now it's always Houston to Cali or Bogota via Continental or I go thorugh Miami and take Avianca whereever I am going in Colombia. Panama is that bad and the same crap happened to me. I spent a good 3 hours looking for a hotel with a taxista in the middle of the night in Panama and finally ended up paying about $80 to stay in a complete dump. Then, like you said the monegering was horrendous. Of course, had I known anything about Panama.. i.e. what hotel to stay at and/or where to go to monger it would have been one thing. But why should I even look into it, as I wasn't planning on having to lay-over. 2 words.... PANAMA SUCKS. I don't care if it cost be an extra $300 to go a differnet route. I refuse to fly through Panama ever again.

On to the mongering in Panama. .
I was told by the individual, who had located the hotel for us to go to the district called Uruguay, and I will find all the nightlife I want there, so that is exactly where we headed at approximately 11:45pm. We went into a couple places that were of the college atmosphere variety, before finding what has to be the mongering bar of bars in Panama City, La Bogedita. The place was loaded with chicas who were eager to engage in conversations with you, and grab you as you walk by. There were some very beautiful girls in here. I purchased a few beers and a few shots for a group of the girls my friend and I were standing next to and basically partying with, and this is where my knowledge of the night ends. I believe this was approximately 2am or so. My friend tells me the next morning that we both left with a chica, but I remember none of this. All I remember is waking up in the morning feeling really out of it, not even knowing I was with someone, and after looking around my room, I see my suitcases are emptied on the floor, so I start checking on things, wondering what the fuck had happened to me. I find my camera missing, my wallet with nothing in it, my ipod missing, and various other things I had intended to use for gifts for special chicas I had hoped to meet in Cartagena. For Christ sakes, this fucking puta even took my pocket rocket! LOL! I think it goes beyond saying a rohypnol pill or something similar was slipped into my beer. I then go and get my friend, and discuss with him what happened, and returned to my room to pack and head to the airport to get ready to fly standby to Cartagena. It was at this point I was just saying fuck it, as there was nothing I could do about it, other than chalk it up to another lesson of being aware of your surroundings at all times, because as soon as you let your guard down, bam, you just might get hit between the eyes. So now, I am out not only the cost of this hotel room, taxi fares, because of the poor service by Continental Airlines, but I am missing my personal belongings, which included the couple of hundred dollars I had in my wallet.
We go to the airport and head directly to the Continental ticket counter where 2 of the agents were already in a battle with a a couple of passengers who shared the same bullshit service we did coming from Houston, but they were trying to get to Quito. We have to wait approximately 30 minutes for the dispute to be resolved with these other 2 passengers. When we have the opportunity to speak to the guest relations manager Eduardo, he states to us they had representatives at the gate for us, and would have been happy to put us up in a hotel and provide us food vouchers. This is entirely bullshit, and the most he says he can do for us now, is provide us with a one hundred dollar credit voucher for our next trip over I believe it was four hundred dollars, give us a telephone card, and provide us with a ten dollar food voucher. Then to top it all off we still have to fly standby to Cartagena. . Next up, do we get on or are we stuck once again.

Continued report….
As we are laughing and chuckling with the customer service agents at the Continental counter, they seem to be more eager to help us get on this upcoming flight because of our attitude of what the fuck else can go wrong. :D We then receive what I determine to be bogus compensation from Continental and we head to the gate to fly standby. As the plane is filled, we hear the good news, as they call my friend and I to the gate counter, and let us know we have made this flight! :)
We get to Cartagena and the flight was nothing spectacular other than the beauty of the flight attendants, and seeing the city of Cartagena from the plane really was impressive. We pass through immigration with no problem and immediately change money from dollars to pesos’ at the cambio as it is located right to the right as you exit the immigration officer. The exchange rate sucks, as it was 1800 to 1. We retrieve our luggage and take a taxi right outside the customs door to take us to Laguito, and the Torre Centauro apartments. As we go down the street that runs along the beach, the touts are out in force, touting everything from the rental of apartments to selling coca. After our arrival at Torre Centauro, we go to check in and we are told we have no reservations. The staff attempt on numerous occasions to contact Giovanni one of the apartment managers for colombianrentals without success. Mery Salence who many know here on the board and also rents apartments comes to the office desk, and really tries hard to rectify our reservation problem. My friend’s apartment in a building called Marinare was rented out despite the fact he had paid a deposit on it. Now it is what the fuck can go wrong next! :) Mery ends up getting me situated in Apartment 503 which is a very nice ocean view apartment, and suggests my friend go into 803 in the same building until the communication problems over the rental of M404 are resolved. This is what we did, and shortly after getting settled in, Mery had finally got in touch with Giovanni, and he came over and settled the apartment problems. My friend on Sunday then transferred into apartment M404 in Marinare, as it is a beautiful 2-bedroom apartment with an ocean view and terrace to walk out on and enjoy the beautiful ocean and beach down below.
Apartment rental agents and owners:
Dave: As I stated in a previous post, Dave is an exceptionally nice and caring guy, who after he learned of our problem did everything within reason to fix it, and accommodate our needs to the very best of his abilities, in a very fast and prompt manner. He also provided us great rates for our inconvenience that was due to a new system that was recently installed to cover the room booking process.
Mery: who is in direct competition in apartment rentals to Dave, was very resourceful and helpful during our entire stay. I cannot personally say enough good things about her, as I found her to be very anxious to help us any way she could, and during our stay was just a sweetheart of a person.
Giovanni: I personally met Giovanni one time, and it was after my 3rd day, and he to was very kind, caring, and considerate. I got sunburned very badly and he took me to the tienda and got me some medicated cream. Again, this is something he did not have to do.
The cleaning staff of both the Torre Centauro building and Marinare: There are two girls who work as a team cleaning apartments, doing your laundry, and will do anything you ask of them. These two girls were super nice and just real sweethearts. I found them to be very trustworthy, and did an outstanding job of cleaning the apartment. I paid them 20,000 pesos’ for each cleaning and it was very well worth it. I hope and encourage anyone who is using Dave or Mery’s services to use these girls to clean and please pay them well. They really need it, and you do get your monies worth.

For Christ sakes, this fucking puta even took my pocket rocket! LOL! I think it goes beyond saying a rohypnol pill or something similar was slipped into my beer. I then go and get my friend, and discuss with him what happened, and returned to my room to pack and head to the airport to get ready to fly standby to Cartagena. It was at this point I was just saying fuck it, as there was nothing I could do about it, other than chalk it up to another lesson of being aware of your surroundings at all times, because as soon as you let your guard down, bam, you just might get hit between the eyes. So now, I am out not only the cost of this hotel room, taxi fares, because of the poor service by Continental Airlines, but I am missing my personal belongings, which included the couple of hundred dollars I had in my wallet./QUOTE]Not good. As I stated previously in a post, if your friends do not know the spanish language, then they do not belong in Colombia, and would be better served going to Costa Rica. That is reality, with the exception being going to the Mansion in Medellin.

It is there you will find Tony the tout, with his twitching eyes, gold tooth, and sniffing his nose constantly. He is about 5’8, with a stocky build, very dark in color. He refers to himself as Tony #1, as there are other Tony’s on the beach who try to capture some of his business, by saying they are Tony. He cannot be missed, as he basically runs this area of the beach. As others in past posts have mentioned, he is a pain in the ass, but on the other end he will accommodate any type of needs you may have. He really can be an asset to you, before you are able to figure out the ins an outs of Cartagena. My only problem with him is he loves to overcharge you, so get to know your prices for drinks, e. T. See, and tell him he is crazy, and give him whatever price you feel is fair. The quality of women varies minute to minute to these places. Many of the girls float between Divas and Tu Candela. Do not even think about going to any of these places before 11:30pm, as they will be very dead. Also many of the girls who work these bars, and LDV, will work a casa called Miami that is located also in the wall city, and a 7-10 minute walk away. I walked in to this place once, and that was enough for me. I was there about 10: 30 and it was totally dead, and probably not a place I would go to again even it if was happening. I just did not like it.
Another place to meet pros and non-pros is the outside area in front of these discos. They have tables and chairs set up, and it is actually a outdoor restaurant/bar setting. Drink prices for beer were I believe $4. 00 dollars a piece. The club itself is nice and spacious with a long wrap around bar, and tables and chairs set up throughout. Many of the LDV girls will leave late and go to work at a place called Electra. This is the only place I think I did not make during my stay. It might even be a casa for that matter. Maybe someone who knows can elaborate further on this place.

Great report and I'm glad you got your apartment situation resolved. TC 803... Isn't that Bruce's 3 bedroom place. I stayed there 4 years ago for 100k pesos when the exchange rate was 2800 to 1. I enjoyed it. My sense is it is probably much more expensive now.
And $4 a beer???? Holy smokes. I remember when LDV raised it from 4k pesos to either 5 o 6k pesos.. .but $4 for an Aguila? That's robbery. I look forward to reading more. Especially about the best part.. .the chicas :-)

Bruce is selling or has sold his place in Torre Centauro. He bought 3 apartments across the street in the new Mirador del Laguito.
I believe Bruce's apt is 802, 803 is David's, as he indicated Mery helped him out, but did not put him one her units. I happen to own # 801, Mery handles my rentals.

During my 10 day stay in Cartagena I was with 11 different women, with everyone of the girls going with me for a fun and entertaining time, and not a financial transaction. As I mentioned in a prior post, I picked one girl up right in front of my apartment. I initially saw her on the beach next to Tony, and had Tony introduce her to me. Her name was Tatianna. During the next few days I ran into her numerous times, and always shared a few minutes of conversation with her, with finally asking her if she wanted to come up to my apartment to talk and relax. She took me up on my offer and the rest is history.
The rest of the girls were girls I met inside the discos I mentioned in my previous post, and my mode of operandi with them is to say and do whatever is necessary to create a party atmosphere with them, while making them feel like they are the only one in the entire world you are interested in. I do this by asking them about there family, there interests and passions in life, and listening to how they respond, as they will tell you what they want, what they like, and so forth. To me it is all about romancing there hearts with kindness, putting them on a pedestal of a Queen, and making them feel they are the Queen of all Queens, creating an environment that makes them happy, and feel special. Use eye contact, tell them how great they look and smell, and how fortunate you feel to have the opportunity to build a friendship with them. Latin women love to dance, so dance with them, have a shot of tequila with them, with a toast to a great time to go along with it. Smile and laugh with them, share some of your life with them, let them know your likes, dislikes, desires, allowing them to get to know you, as the more they get to know and understand you, the more secure they feel, and automatically they will be feeling a boyfriend experience. These girls are no different than most of us, so give them exactly what we are looking for. In a previous post I spoke of how Cartagena is small, and the problem I ran into was, all these girls wanted to be with me 24/7, so it made it very difficult to go out and not run into them. I was popping my head into the door of every bar I went to, to make sure the coast was clear, as I am not one who wants to spend night after night with one girl. As I mentioned on several occasions in the past, for me and my friend, it is all about the hunt, with the sex coming in right behind it. Just doing the sex thing has no appeal for me. Latin women are also very jealous and sensitive. One of the girls who is pictured with the long hair was working in a disco, I promised her I would stop in and see her after spending the previous night with her, which I did. I then told her my friend and I wanted to go out by ourselves to have a good time without any female company, and she breaks down in tears. I had another girl who is also pictured, take me to Barranquilla to meet her family on Saturday afternoon, and wants to come to Puerto Vallarta , Mexico , to visit me, as that is where I have my permanent home. While in the company of her, her family made me feel like I was a King. It was a great experience.:) My suggestion to everyone is once you have established a friendship with them, to invite them to Mr.Babillas to go dancing. It takes them out of there environment, and it gives you one on one time with them, in a fun, exciting, happy environment catered to mostly couples. Another great place to take them is to Café del Mar. This is a open air restaurant/bar located inside the walled city, with a beautiful view, and it is place you can share in a great conversation with her.
I should cover pricing here guys. All the girls in the discos are asking for 150,000 pesos and up for one or two hours. Even though I was never asked for any money the night I was with any of the girls I spoke of above, I did have 2 of the girls ask me for 200,000 pesos the next day, and I sent them packing, after telling them how insulted I was that they would even ask me for that type of money, as no money was ever discussed. :) I paid there taxi fare and that was it. Some of the other girls, I did give like 50,000 pesos, plus taxi fare, but it was out of the generousity of my heart. All the girls I have posted pics have refused any offer of pesos, other than taxi fare, which I just paid after walking them to there taxi.
The pics I have attached were taken with a disposable camera, since my regular camera was stolen as I reported in Panama .

Taxi’s: Just as I experienced in Bogota the taxi’s will rip you off every chance you get. Anyone staying in Laguito and going to Bocagrande do not pay more than 4000 pesos, and 5000 pesos to central and the walled city. If you go out to Playboy do not pay more than 7,000 pesos max. The taxi drivers will all try to get you to go out there. My suggestion to you all is to keep a roll of 1 and 2000 pesos in pocket, and when you use a taxi just use these pesos to pay them. Do not ask them how much a fare is, just go by the rule of thumb I just told you, and have the money ready to pay them as soon as you reach your destination. These guys are the best cons out there.
Money Exchange: This is a big one. Stay the hell away from the cambios that change dollars into pesos. Go to the Banco Colombia to do your exchange. Despite Banco Colombia being present in several locations, there are only two that do money exchanges. There is one off of Carrera 2 and I believe it is calle 5, also known as San Martin. This is in Bocagrande. The other location is in Central located near the Monte Carlo Hotel. When I was in Cartagena the cambio exchanges were paying anywhere from 1800 pesos to 1850, where the Banco Colombia was giving a rate of 1910. This is very big difference guys if you are going to be there for any amount of time. Banco Colombia will only allow you to exchange $500.00 dollars per day.
Restaurants: If you want to take a girl out for a nice dinner, I highly suggest Pacos in walled city or to Café Del Mar. I mentioned these 2 places in my previous posts. Just awesome food. For hamburgers I would suggest Prestos I believe it is called. There are two locations that I am aware of, and both of these are located in Laguito along the road that goes by the beach. There are also some nice low cost restaurants on the beach in Bocagrande.
The city of Cartagena: This city is a great city to go and see, and has to rank up with them one of the best I have been to. Instead of me going and describing all the sights to see, I am going to provide you a link from Wikipedia that will provide you some great information on the history of this beautiful city. I fell inlove with the walled city. The women of Cartagena: The beauty of the Clombianas is breathtaking, and Cartagena is the mecca of all flavors. The thing that really through me, and I hope some of the more experienced members on here will elaborate,is the women will not approach you, and this includes the putas. You can be the only person in the bar, with the bar packed with putas, but not one will get up and approach you. I find this kind of funny, as you would think the working girls would try to engage in conversation as much as possible, since hooking up with a guy is there business, but they don’t. They would just as soon sit at a table or in a corner and smoke there cigerettes. I have never seen so many women smoke as I did in Cartagena.

Just got back from my week long trip to Cartagena. One thing, I am still wishing that I was still there. I was really impressed overall with the whole trip and really changed my outlook about life. About woman. Like I've read in past post by other members. You have not made love to a woman until you made love to a colombiana. Wow. That's a another story.
**First off. I would like to Thank Urbanwildlife! He has provided me with some detailed information about Cartagena before our trip. With his info I would had a lot harder time or might have been looking at the wrong places. Thanks Urban. Urban and I was down at Cartagena around the same time. But for some misque we never was able to meet up until the last night when I was leaving the next day and I just happend to leave with a girl. Sorry Urban! Anyways from the brief meeting of him and his friend. They seem to be a great couple of guys. No wonder why girls were in love with him! Haha!
**My trip started as well by having a Layover in Panama. It was about 3 hours so it wasn't too bad. Lots of Dutyfree tax free shopping while you wait. Lots of woman to look at from all south america. Very nice airport I must add. I had no issues on getting my flight with copa airlines. But one thing you must know about the airport, they only have 1 restaurant in the whole airport! Can you believe that? Service is terrible! Food was decent.
**I arrived in Colombia around 1000PM. Took a taxi to Laguito where I rented a apartment SC 803. At first I was going to stay at the TC building but there were some issues about being chica friendly and I didn't want to risk that. My SC apartment was perfect. Very nice condo, perfect ocean view from the balcony and directly across the street from LDV and the casino. Took 15 steps to cross the street onto the steps of LDV. Was able to get my key from security even with my limited spanish. Very limited I may add. Will give more detail later. P.S. This condo is now sold and they were waiting for my to leave so the new owners could move in.
**First night. Showered and hit up LDV since it was across the street. On the steps and in the courtyard there were a lot of chicas. Some pretty good looking. Opps need to backtrack. I took a shower. Had the taxi take me to a atm and on the way back, drove by a bus stop with working girls and he asked me if he wanted me to stop. So I was like what the hell. Stopped and got my first colombiana experience back at my apartment. She must been around 19. Cannot remember her name. Awsome service and give her 70Kcop. She was very happy. Send her on her way. Took shower and headed to LDV.

Urban... I am astounded by your knowledge of Cartagena in such a short period of time. Sure, one can write a pretty good report... but damn.. you have names of restaurants, bars, addresses of banks, etc. just a lot of tiny details that honestly, I can say the bar over there or in that area... but I just can't remember the names after being there so many times. You either 1) have an incredible memory or 2) took a pad of paper with you everywhere. What is certain is that you made sure you came back with great info to give a great report.
Jluv... What can I say... been there, done that... and that's a good comment for you. I know exactly what you mean about not being able to get away from a gal. And having all the gals jealous, and feeling like "what the hell is the deal, why does everyone want to be my girlfriend?" 5 years ago Cartagena was my first Colombian destination... and my report would have been almost spot on as yours is. You will dream about Colombia and those chicas now for weeks.... months... until you get back to Colombia again... jajaja. With time you will realize that what makes these gals so special is their ability to bond with you and make you feel like you are their principe. The reason the gals do not approach you at LDV is because Aldo will not allow them to. It is not a custom or ritual or manners. It's Aldo's rule... and it's been like that since the first time I entered the place 5 years ago. I asked the gals and Aldo about it 5 years ago. Back then, if they approached you they would run the risk of him throwing them out. Aldo chooses who works there and who doesn't. Keep in mind, I haven't been to LDV in over 18 months, but I assume things haven't changed much... except of course the cost of the beer and the chicas. By the way, Aldo is the Italian fellow who runs the place for those that didn't know.

I have read on this thread numerous times about the big gringo invasion, and how it has destroyed Cartagena from what it used to be. Most of these were from the now rightfully banned idiot Surfer. My friend and I commented numerous times during our 10 day stay, about how there were no gringos around. During our entire stay, I saw approximately 20 to 25 obvious gringos.
I wouldn't really call it an invasion, but there are obviously more gringos visiting Colombia.
I don't think the influx of more gringos into Cartagena or Colombia for that matter has destroyed it. It has just changed things a bit.
It's still great ... obviously.
Anyone who has visited Colombia for many years, can see the difference.
Used to be you were the only gringo around and most likely the first gringo any of these chicas had seen.
Now, it's still great to be a gringo there, just not the novelty as before.
You guys saw 20-25 other gringos in a week, not an invasion, but much more than the past.
I can remember seeing no other gringos for weeks.
Obviously not all gringos are alike, you can still be very much appreciated for your spanish skills and personality that may set you apart from others.

Besides LDV. My other place that I’ve meet girls was from the beach. La Playa. I took advantage of meeting Tony #1. He looks exactly how Urban described. I first had a hard time finding Hollywood area of the beach. Ask someone. If not. Look for Hotel Dann and the strip is right in front of it. Be careful I ran into a guy that called himself Tony #2 and even showed me a card that said International Sex Guide. And that he was Tony. I didn’t take advantage of this Tony. I found Tony #1 or you could say that he found me. As soon as you walk the beach the host of the area (like Tony) will try to have you sit in their section. It will get kind of expensive as they will charge for everything from the chairs, to the tents and will overcharge for drinks or anything you order. Be careful and tell Tony No and give him what you think you owe. One thing that I hated about going to the beach was all the sales people and the massage girls. A damn pain in the ass are the massage girls. Gentlemen keep your shirt on if you don’t want to get bothered. As soon as you take your shirt off. They will jump on you and start giving you a massage. Keep in mind that they are not attractive at all! You tell them no, no, no and they will cont. To massage. I said whatever if she wants to give me a free massage then give it. Do not have this thought because after they are done or you make them stop. You are expected to pay 30KCOP! My ass! The City.
Cartagena is a wonderful city with a lot of history. It is really small as there is only mainly three parts of the city. Laguito, Bocogrande and the Old City. It is really geared to tourist. People from all over Colombia and South America Vacation there. I never feared or was scared about my safety. There are tons of restaurants and shops. As for food, I was never really disappointed. It’s pretty much the same no matter where you eat. You have your carne (beef), pollo (chicken)and pescado (fish). It usually comes with French fries, rice and salad. A big thing out there in Cartagena is their COCO rice. Which I didn’t care for. It’s rice with coco powder I believe. Some of the good restaurants that I recommend is the "Riquisimo" for BBQ (steaks) and "El Muelle" for seafood. In Cartagena you will find cheap to expensive food so no matter what your budget is. There is something to fit your needs. Oh. They do have one fast food place. McDonalds! Of course I didn’t visit there. Also I visit the Old city to "Plaza Santa Domingo. " Very good restaurants are present there. Inside and outside seatings are there. Good place to people watch. One thing I have learned on my trip. Even though I didn’t experience any problems. Is that Spanish speaking is a must. If you are able to speak Spanish. Your trip will be so much more enjoyable. Very few locals speak English. And most of the girls do not speak English or very little. Kind of weird because they are taught English in school and is a requirement. So my next trip. I am currently signed up to take Spanish classes. Do the same fellows for all you non speaking Spanish people. It is a must if you want to have more fun.

You just described the tourist zone. There is much more to the city of Cartagena. CTG has around 1 million people and is the 4th largest city in Colombia.
There is a soccer stadium and bull ring along the avenida. Further out, there is a huge shopping center and an Exito across the street. The bus terminal is further out yet. Some of the other parts of town are very dangerous-the mercado, the area north of la avenida, and la Popa.
It is probably best for most to stay in the tourist zone.
I made my first trip to Cartagena about two weeks ago and spent 4 days in the area. I flew over on Avianca Airlines and they offered me a first class upgrade for $200 so I splurged a little and went for it. I knew I was in trouble when I fell in love with the flight attendant. She was smiling and pretty and, I might be crazy, but I think checking me out. I still wish I would have cut into her and tried to set something up. Stranger things have happened.
I’ve been all over the Caribbean including the DR, Mexico, and Canada but none of them compared to this. The DR was pretty close as far as the girls went but the neither the restaurants or the city was close. This city, as well as its women, was beautiful. My Spanish is limited but I went down with a buddy who speaks fluently and who has been there many times before. This was extremely helpful because unlike the DR, there is very little English spoken there. We rented a couple apartments in El Laguito for about $50 per night and they were girl friendly, air conditioned, clean, and had ocean views. I stayed in the tourist areas and at no time felt the city was dangerous. The touts were a pain, the beaches weren’t very pretty, you had to watch out for the cab drivers, and damn it was hot, but that’s the only negative parts of the experience. The old part of the walled city was great. I wish I could remember the name of a restaurant that was so good I went back twice. It had a big steer out by the front door. If any of you know the name please let me know.
There were girls everywhere. The first night in town I went to the famous LDV. I can’t be 100% sure but I think I slept with Shakira ;). If it wasn't her she was almost as sexy. I paid 150,000 pesos for a 2 hours GFE experience. She, like every girl I spent time, with was both warm and pretty. I guess the BBBJ and GFE are standard because all 5 of the girls I was with on this trip provided both. On my second day I picked up one of the SG's right on the steps of the apartment I was renting. For 60,000 pesos she provided great service and a nice massage in between sessions. That night I hit some clubs in old town but ended up taking one out of LDV.
There doesn’t seem to be a lot of daytime action. Maybe because it’s so hot but every thing seems too come alive at night, mostly late night. The clubs really don’t start until after midnight. Even the local SW stroll, Ave San Martin, walking distance from where we were staying, didn’t have anything going on until late. I did take one off that Ave and for about 70,000 pesos had a good experience.
Anyway to sum it up I had a great time. I will be back and will certainly try other Columbian Cities. I am slowly working my way to Brazil and Argentina.

The girls on the beach are pretty obvious, and I am willing to say 95+ percent of them are on the beach in Bocagrande, specifically Playa Hollywood. As I stated in my posts, if you go in front of the Torre Centauro apartments in Laguito, which is a beachfront property, one block from the Hyatt Hotel in Laguito, you will run into 4-5 beautiful girls from 2:30 until 7 or so, as they pass by there several times during this time period. You can also checkout the internet cafe, that faces the street at the bottom of the Hotel Conquistador, and is located across the street from Torre Centauro, as these girls are always going in there to use the internet, and to use the phone.
As far as the massage parlour scene goes, I cannot answer that for you, as that is not my thing.
There are women everywhere, all you have to do is start a conversation with him. My other advice to you is set up some dates if you go to the discos for the following day. To answer your question about the girls hanging out around hotel entrances the answer is no.

Tony 1 is probably the most active. Tony 2 or any guy who rents carpas and chairs on the beach can find girls for you.
Working girls cannot be very obvious because there is a law against street solicitation. And that law is enforced.
The porteros in your building are another good source of leads. Most taxi drivers can get girls as well.

My friend and I had several girls approach us while at the beach, as soon as we made eye contact with them. I believe it was ISG member Jacque, who was in Cartagena 2 weeks ago, who made a previous post about this as well, or it might have been in a p.m he sent to me. In addition, several girls approached us on the street through eye contact in passing, or by making a comment.
As I mentioned in my post to Straddler, girls are everywhere, and there is no problem with locating daytime action if you want it. Your information about asking taxi's, porteros, is a excellent suggestion.

I own a apartment in Cartagena. I have been going down to Colombia for the last 15 years. I think devoman must not be a very freindly person not to have met a fellow canadian down there ever. Also my momma told me when I was young never make a guarantee unless you can back it up. Devoman I guarantee you I pay less than you! Next time you go to ldv ask Aldo who is screwy louie? I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for me. I need to find a place to stay while I am there. The people I am going with prefer a house so we can fit everyone under one roof. It can happen from coming into the US from anywhere. They can do it to anyone that they want. I've missed planes over it. I'd rather allow them to do it and miss my plane over the alternative. Which is they don't do it to anyone and then we start seeing bombs go off. It is random, you weren't being singled out for being Colombian. Or maybe you were, but in the end no harm done, right?

Airport security is a joke anyway, it is just another way for them to fuck with you. There are no bombs. Just a few more of our liberties that the Bush assministration (I know how to spell administration) have found a way to remove. We know that they do not care about illegal immigration. And for all the Questions they ask me I did answer whit a smile in my face, they ask the same question 3 or 4 times, after 4 or 5 smiles they tookme to a room whit a INS supervisor, and 3 more officials, same cuestions, After 4 hours, they let me go.

Katherin I understand your frustration. I have been traveling internationally for 15 years and only one time ever have I been held up, maybe 30 minutes returing from Costa Rica. My travels have been to many suspect places too, Nigeria, Angola, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Colombia, Qatar, Abu Dhabi, ect. Unless a drug dog singles an American out returning less than .001% get held up. My wife is from Cartagena and the day she arrived in the United States she had a valid K-1 visa. I, too, am an American citizen, born and bred. These fuckwads in ICE have a stick up their asses. My instances totalled 13 straight "secondary" searches in 2006, stateside before being allowed to "officially" enter the USA. I called out one asshole (he really was) directly in front of his supervisor one time, but dude was being a complete ass.
Then, I pulled out my official note from Washington DC, their end-all, be-all response to those pricks behind the glass. Basically stating national security bullshit, and apologies for the inconvenience, yada yada yada, but that I shouldn't be harrassed anymore. It was also notated in their system.

I love CTG but I will be in Thailand over Xmas. I go every Xmas and have a great time. It is totally different than Colombia. In some ways it is a lot more fun. It is certainly much easier to monger there.

Juan rents my apartment. It has a safe as does the one that Juan owns. Most of the others do as well. Ask Juan.
I got the trots the first few visits to CTG. After your body adjusts to the bacteria there, there is no problem. There are no Cokes being sold in small bottles anymore. The tap water can cause problems. Therefore I would be very careful buying anything from a street vendor. Cipro is sold without prescription and worked the best for me.
Anything outside of the tourist zone is more dangerous. Many parts are not that dangerous while some are. The trick is to know which is which. The casa names change, and they open and close frequently.
The tourist zone is still heavily policed but quite safe.

Cartagena is easier. Laguito is the place to be. You can walk alone at 3:00 am with no problem. There are no casas, but there are girls on the street and the beach. And LDV is located in Laguito.

I did hear of a guy getting mugged in Bocagrande once a couple of years ago.
Outside the tourist zone, of course, is another story. An Italian couple was mugged near Castillo de San Felipe about 6 months ago. The wife was shot dead. The husband was in pretty bad shape and may have died as well.

There are often a lot of eyeballs on you if you are out walking the main streets of Laguito or Bocogrande; people watching that have a vested interest in keeping crime down. This can have a downside if you have a local girlfriend and she has any connection with people who live in Laguito. "What were you doing last night walking down the street with the sex worker?"
Two years back I noticed a tourist talking photographs, at night, of the girls mulling about in the plaza outside LDV. He was in a forth or fifth floor apartment in the Calamari building. Not sure how those came out. Anyway, if you look around, even early in the morning, you will probably see someone on a random balcony checking out the vista.
There are police stationed in the middle of Laguito, at the entrance to Laguito - more or less in front of Hotel Caribe. The whole Bocogrande, Laguito and Castillo Grande is bottlenecked by a navel base, which always has marines stationed on both sides of the road. Often the police have a check point on the road and stop motorcycles moving in and off the peninsula.
Not that crime can't happen. Pretty much everyone who's ever given me a lecture on the relative safety of any given place in Colombia always ends with "of course, it is Colombia".

The taxi from airport was 14, 000 ($7), be/see the chica who met us at the airport is Colombiana (the guy told me it was $10, still not much).
HOTEL PLAYA MAR (Mery Salence's places). I totally recommend staying at Playa Mar. Mine had 2 bathrooms, 2 balconies, was clean, good security, big extra living room, separate kitchen. Looks out onto the playa. Cost: $50/nt. My amigo took Mery's other place at Torre Centauro, the bldg. Next door. Same price, but no balcony, and he said it kinda sucked. BUT! NO chica fee at either place. And, it should be stated, there is no better host than Mery. She'll even give you the cel number of a great masseuse-chick (no happy ending though).
CYBER-CUPIDO, COLOMBIANCUPID, etc. Chicas. My amigo paid to fly a chica in from an outlying city (not sure why he chose to bring sand to the beach) that he had been texting AND video-chatting with. So he knew what she looked like. Cute face, sort of, but she was HUGE! Cost him $300 US for her rd-trip. We made up a story about needing to go visit some island so as to put her on a taxi back to the airport the next day on a return flight. CARTAGENA REPORT, AUGUST 2007
I am at the end of two weeks in Cartagena. I spent a lot of my time here with a paisa (i.e. from Medellin) girlfriend and didn’t do a ton of mongering, but I did get in a few adventures before and after her visit.
I stayed in Edificio Torre Centaur o in Laguito which I found at www.cartagena apartments.com. Cost $55 per night for a nice apartment in a girlfriend friendly building overlooking the water and the constant relaxing sounds of the waves rolling in. I had a few minors issues with a weak A/C and the wireless internet not working initially, but Giovanni the manager was quick to deal with problems and in the end they never charged me a dime for the wireless. I give them a big thumbs up.
I made a visit to Hotel Dorado (on Calle San Martin, a few blocks from Hotel Caribe) in whose spa I got a really good massage from two girls at once for 50,000 COP finishing off with one of them giving me a HJ while I played with the others nice big tits. Neither was a stunner, I’d rate them a 6, one of them only a 5 to be honest, but it was still great.
Then walking out of the gym one day I saw a solid 8.5-9 walking with a friend and quickly got the impression they were working girls. This amounts to a very hefty percentage, for example you would lose an additional 15,000 COP or about $7 changing a hundred dollar bill with the local exchange offices.

I've been to the DR twice and to Cartagena once, and I prefer Cartagena mostly because I find the women more attractive. I found CTG to be clean and safe. However, if you go to the DR, stay at Blackbeard's near Puerta Plata. All the girls come to you and it's all VERY reasonably priced.

Okay Fellas, here’s my XBH (www.xoticbeachhouse.com) Trip Report. I’ve been meaning to write this for months, but have been incredibly busy. In looking back, I must admit that all the s**t I took here before I went regarding how much I was spending, how stupid and foolish I was, etc., probably sapped some of my motivation to post, and contributed to the delay. Still, here I am, but first a couple of things:
1. I’m going to generally avoid speaking about the costs involved. Those of you familiar with the history of this trip (and the previous posts / responses on this thread) will certainly understand why, but in a nutshell, this is not going to be a report about how to get the most bang for your buck in Cartagena. I know, know, KNOW that this trip cost me more than most of you would be willing to pay, and that I could have gotten lots of lovely young pussy in Cartagena for a bunch less money. Again, Colombia offered this, to my perception, based upon the posts I’ve read, and also, the knowledge that what I was willing to pay them for such service was more than they could normally expect to earn (and the fact, I must admit, that the need for the money was great). I mean, I could get a fantastically beautiful girl in, say, Las Vegas, but she’s probably not going to, over the course of a full day, allow me to fuck her anytime and in any way I want (though there are exceptions to everything).
3. Time and Convenience – As I learned at Vikings, it’s not enough to be in the company of the girl(s), the opportunity has to be there. If I had total control of the schedule, and where and what we did and when, rather than at the discretion of a third-party administered schedule, then I would be in a position to also re-arrange the schedule. For example, at Vikings, the girls had their “alone” time from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and then arrived for dinner dressed and made up to the T’s. So I’ve arranged to have 2 girls all day, each day, and unless I find someone who just drives me nuts, I’ll probably change one or both of them each day.
5. Ease of Procurement – To make this fantasy work, I can’t be spending 5 or more hours every day traveling around looking for, finding, negotiating, transporting, etc, the girls. M then makes all the arrangements, and at some point, the transition from girls A & B to girls C & D happens smoothly and seamlessly. This worked quite well at Vikings, BTW.
6. Comfort – Last but not least, I needed to be staying in someplace clean and safe; someplace where I could be with the girls when I wanted to, and retreat for some alone time when I wanted to. XBH seems, given what I know at this point, to provide that very adequately. The fact that I could also eat my meals right there and that there’s a private pool just for my use is a big plus that I didn’t necessarily initially envision.
ARRIVAL
I showed up at the airport, got through customs, and sure enough, a guy was waiting there with my name on a placard. A short walk to a large van (in steaming, sweat-inducing weather) ensued, and entering the van, I encountered 6 or so girls waiting for me. I had heard about this nice touch and was looking forward to it, but was immediately disappointed with the selection. This was NOT the best Columbia had to offer by any means, but I put a good face on (didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings) and tried to enjoy the ride to the Penthouse (PH from now on). Of course, the girls were very friendly and I felt a certain amount of pressure given that their entire reason for being there was to get me to choose them. If all, or most of them, had been gorgeous, this would not have been irritating, but as it was, it was not a totally pleasant ride.

The first 3 days were okay, and in fact, under other circumstances I would have rated them as good, but I could never get over the disappointment over the quality of the companion choices that were being offered to me. If those were the only 3 days I was there, then I would unhesitatingly state that I would never go to XBH again. However, my last 3 days were so spectacular, that I can write, without question, that I would absolutely do this again, but would make sure that M and W were on top of getting the right kind of girls there right from the beginning. Just recalling those last 3 days for this report has gotten me all hot and bothered.

As for those who quibble, well they can indeed pay in burritos as you say - often they will end up with a burro but those are the breaks.

A few questions...
- You mentioned that the Penthouse is right on the beach in a nice area of town? Where is it? Is it in BocaGrande or Laguito?
- From what you have written, I get the impression that you pay the gals daily? i.e. you mentioned that you had to let some leave or it wouldn't be worth the price. So, what you were paying was relative to how many girls stayed there with you? I thought you were paying a daily rate and there would always be a handful or 2 handful of girls there for you. It looks like my impression from before your trip is not the case.
If you were paying to keep gals there and they would bring different ones as you requested,is it fair to describe their operation as such...
-A very nice place to stay (5 star quality plus, with fantastic food, fantastic service and ammenities, a cordial driver, and pretty much M is just in real terms a pimp looking for gals for you as you wish?

Hey Bud, Somehow the pics got mixed up when I first uploaded them (I suspect some on-going issue with the recent server upgrade, but who knows), so I edited the report and re-upped the photos. You were probably looking at the report while I was doing this, so try those pics again.
I promised not to provide too much detail about where the building was, but it was right there, if you know what I mean. As far as the cost, I had purchased the 2 girls per day package, which allowed me to mix and match (I could do 2 per day, or 1 one day and 3 the next, etc.). But to have kept Tall and Shorty, in addition to Kelly, on that last night, would have required me to pay for 2 extra girl-nights. The price for that is right on their website (trying to NOT discuss prices here... if I were to mention the price, I'd get flamed by some Jerk).
As far as your description, what you wrote is accurate but incomplete. You see, additionally, I wasn't in a 5-star hotel with lots of pedestrians and other "non-combatants"; rather, I was in a place totally focused on my enjoyment, with full realization of what was going on, and support thereof. Didn't have to worry about being discrete or about disapproving tourists, etc, or anything like that. M was there to ensure that EVERY aspect of my trip was excellent, not JUST the girls (so I wouldn't use the word, Pimp, especially since I spent a lot of time just hanging out with him and W... it was really good to have them both there, actually). Well, calling up Kelly directly (which is theoretical, since I have no way to do so) and just staying with her for a trip would be far more economical, and I'd certainly have an excellent time. It's pretty easy to see what that would NOT include, and those things (the exclusive PH and the not having to be discrete, the daily selection of new girls, the chef, the driver, the private pool, etc.) were pretty valuable to me.
So, lemme put it this way; yes, I would plan a different kind of trip back there, save a bunch of money, and still have a great time (and be looking forward to it too), BUT, I would also do THIS again, for all the reasons I've given.
