Some years ago I was outside my hotel in Poblado and this American dude asked me for money, he said his apartment was broken into and all his stuff was stolen, he was wiped out. I was skeptical but then he asked for money to buy something to eat so I offered to buy food for him. We were close to a supermarket and I told him I would buy some bread and milk for him and he said no and was directing me to an upscale restaurant. I left his ass.
Your story reminded me of when I was visiting Bogota and a stranger approached me, claimed he was an American tourist who had just arrived and that his luggage and wallet was stolen and that he needed money to buy a plane ticket back home. His tale of woe was so ridiculous because (1) he decided to visit a city he's never been to using only a 1-way ticket?; (2) luggage AND wallet stolen, I'm surprised he also hasn't lost a kidney already; (3) so instead of going to the US embassy for help or staying at the airport where there's a rich source of foreign tourists he decided to hitchhike to the complete opposite side of the city and wander around one of the less populous suburbs until he just happened to run into someone like me; (4) for an "American" tourist he sure had a thick accent and couldn't name another city in the state he's supposedly from. When I pointed out these obvious holes in his story he scowled, muttered something under his breath, and quickly left.

Does the 150 K for 2 hours include taxi? I am asking because many two of the agencies I am looking at charge 220 k per 90 minutes. I surmise that 90 minutes means two experiences based on a review of a local Board. So I am breaking down the cost to be 150 K to the chica, 20 k for taxi and 50 k to the agency. It seems like a reasonable proposition to me especially since I would probably meet Facebook chicas in a motel room the first time rather than my hotel apartment. In the past I've done something a bit different. I tell them I pay 150 + 20 taxi and expect BBBJ and DFK.
I also tell them that I offer a tip of 50 k for every leche after 1, and that this is the only thing I tip for.
So if she can find a way to enjoy herself she might end up hanging out and spending several hours. I had one girl stay the night, 4 leches, 300 k. That was well worth it.
What sucks is when you negotiate tln and they're dead fish after the first polvo.

After all this price research, I will end up in Medellin and choose a bunch of losers. I have met only two girls in Medellin with whom I would repeat out of maybe 20 experiences. A few days ago I was at the main train station in Frankfurt and an emaciated young East European woman asked me for money and I shook my head, she walked off and I noticed she was bare foot and in tattered clothes. Was recently in Medellin from Aug 2-Aug8th. This time I had a friend travel with me and it made the trip all the more better. We pooled our money and really got a big bang for our buck. Instead of a day by day recap, I'll just write down the places we went to with prices and a little summary. This report will probably be old news to vets but hopefully this will help the newer members. Before I go on, has anyone visited The Candy House? Its a newer and higher end venue. Any chick shows up get ID taken and they take pics of the girls before hand and some already you will in the system. Someone in the past must have had them come over too. The super market is maybe 200 yard on the same street just go right and you will see it on your right hand side. Restaurants walk out left and they are probably 100 yards on your right side 2 floors has good food. I ate on the 2nd floor of the mall and all good food. Used UBER to get around. Although if you get a local girl ask them to get uber for you and you can pay driver cash rather easy. ATM in the mall or supermarket if needed. The bus does pass right in front and its 2100 pesos that will take to main center. All rather easy to get around, I went solo and don't speak any Spanish.
They do have a massage place right across street behind Domino's Pizza, I did not check it out since I already had a full plate of SA chicks on my plate.

Instead of a day by day recap, I'll just write down the places we went to with prices and a little summary. This report will probably be old news to vets but hopefully this will help the newer members. Before I go on, has anyone visited The Candy House? Its a newer and higher end venue. We ran out of time to visit. Anyways here's my summary. This is in not in any set order. San Diego Show. Arrived around 20:45 which was too early. My flight arrived late last night and customs was backed up about 100 people deep but moved quickly (only about 15 minutes wait time). I was able to catch a bus from the airport which was surprising since I thought they stopped running at midnight. Lucky for me because it cost 10.5 k instead of the 70-80 k I was prepared to pay for a taxi. Also the bus took me directly to my hotel which was Hotel Nutibara in Centro. By the time I got checked in and up to my room it was after 2 am and I was beat!
Today I had an excellent session with a Facebook girl, lots of GFE, DFK, and an excellent bbj. I will be giving you guys a link to her FB profile shortly. She actually took it down, but expects to put it back up soon.

Last night I specifically asked the gentleman in reception if there was any charge for guests. He said during the day there was no charge, but at night the charge was 46 k. I asked when night starts. He said 7 pm.
Well today I checked in my guest at 6:40 pm, and they asked for 46 k. I told them what reception told me last night, but they now said that the visitor must leave before 7 pm. I argued this point vehemently, and with the manager as well. It was obvious they would not make any concession. So, I ended the debate by just telling then I'll pay it tomorrow at my checkout which included a few choice words on my part.
I feel a little duped & violated. How many specific questions do I need to ask at check-in. Hell, I'm the customer! Anyhow I went on Tripadvisor, and reread some of the reviews on Hotel Nutibara. They are littered with bad review after bad review. Some of which includes theft out of the rooms. Oh well, I got the rooms at a significant discount through an airline vacation package, but definitely will not stay here again.
I am looking forward to a continued good trip.

And you would be 100% in the wrong in this situation in every way! They told you night starts at 7 pm--that means if your girl is in your hotel room after 7 pm you got to pay. It's a pretty standard rule and procedure (my hotel of choice in MDE has the same rule, but stating at 10 pm). You checked your girl in at 640--was she going to leave before 7? The hotel seemed to have some faith that you wouldn't shoot your load within 20 minutes- and the girl was going to be in your room after 7- so you got to pay!. And when is a 15 dollar charge a 'major issue'? You've paid flight, hotel, food, hookers and other expenses- but this 15 bucks: that's the line into poverty and major drama! Sorry, bro- you just come off silly, immature and petty to me! You could have just looked at it as a tip, or just let it go. Or maybe thought about the truth: you were wrong.

All of this adds up to getting aggravated at a minimum and reporting it here for others to know about. I have seen people get extremely irate at check out because of these hidden fees. It all adds up. Yes we spent 100 X more on plane ticket, hotel & entertainment so if it is "only" $15, you are correct, it shouldn't be that big of a deal. But usually it's not & usually it's a lot more than $15. Some of us are on a shoestring budget and have to watch every $15 we spend. I wish I were Trustfunder and could overlook every time I got the Gringo price!

Where he went wrong was going on TripAdvisor after he encountered a problem to see if others had complained about the hotel. You do your research before you book the room, not after you've stayed there.
You must have bad luck with taxis. Medellin taxis are metered. I believe the meter starts at 3300 pesos. I only had one time when I got in a taxi in Medellin and the meter had not been reset. I pointed it out, he reset it and no problem. Are you seeing 12,000 to 15,000 on the meter every other taxi ride, before the taxi takes off?
Of course there are options for anyone in Medellin who is trying to stretch their budget. You can always hop on a bus. Most are only 2100 pesos and just about anywhere you need to go in Medellin is close to a bus route. Not much fun during rush hour traffic, but neither is a taxi.
The best option is the Medellin Metro. If I was on a budget trip, I would pick a hotel in Mayorista. There are several nice, cheap options there and Ayura metro station is an easy 10 minute walk away. 2400 pesos gets you on the Metro to El Centro, or you can transfer to head out to Laureles. There are lots of sightseeing options accessible via the Metro and Metrocable and it's the fastest way to get around the city. There's also plenty of cheap food options in Mayorista, although quality does vary.

El Mechanico.I think more than that is that he was led to believe one thing and then treated differently. This can get on one's nerves, no matter how small the $ amount. That said, just have the chicas come over earlier or just go to a short-time hotel (they are better for entertaining the chicas anyway). I stayed at a place a couple years ago that explicitly told me no problem bringing guests in and no fee. Despite that, a bitchy evening clerk kept hassling my guests. It pissed me off, but in the end I found a fantastic short-time place.
I would try to find a better deal or get girls to show up earlier in the day. I can't remember how much it is but Botero hotel collects a fee for overnight guests. It isn't much. I think it is probably the difference between the single (sencillo) rate and the double occupancy rate.

Hotel botero hits 3/4 with the exception being that its in not such a great area. I know its perfectly safe if your cautious but I still feel a bit uncomfortable with the area especially with my rudimentary spanish.

I would like to thank the guys who were helpful & supportive in their replies. Several of you understand the problem, and I really appreciate that. This sentence below really hits the nail on the head.
I think more than that is that he was led to believe one thing and then treated differently. This can get on one's nerves, no matter how small the $ amount.My problem with the Nutibara had very little to do with the money. I began my research weeks before my check-in which included several conversations about the hotel with the airline vacation agents, and a thorough review of the hotel's profile & customer reviews on both TripAdvisor & Hotels.com. I also sent 2 seperate emails from different email accounts directly to the hotel asking what the visitor fee was. Both my emails went unreturned. Then I get there and get half the information I need. Then the next night with my guest, I get asked for the money with less civility than what I get from a fast-food joint here in the USA. At this point I had had enough with this hotel's evasive & disrespectful customer service.
Fortunately all that is in the past. I am staying in 2-bedroom condos thru Airbnb in Poblado, Laureles & Centro for the remainder of my trip. It's great having things all cleared with the owner of the condo, and also the building's security. The girls checkin below and come right up to my condo front door. I let them in and take them to the little bedroom for action. I do love me the room service!

I signed up for Tinder and paid the $30 to get international access so I would just be looking at Medellin chicas. When I get matches I give them my standard FKK pitch. (I don't recommend cruising those at night, the Raudal block is a little rough looking even in the day) Also only 180 ft to a indoor ATM (Nutribara has a back entrance and 2 24 HR ATMs) and 290 ft to 24 HR food at BrasePan and 400 ft to a grocery store. Medellin. Pretty much the same all year, although less rain this time of year. Highs in the 80's. Lows in the 60's. Sun is hot, because of proximity to the equator. Low humidity.
Cartagena. Hot. Highs in the upper 80's, but the humidity makes it feel hotter. Reminds me of home here in Florida. A little more likely to have some rain during the day, but it rarely lasts.
San Andres. Hot and humid, but there is almost always a good breeze, since it's an island. It can be very rainy there, but this time of year I have found the rain to be less frequent (or at least not lasting as long).

$119k isn't a crazy big increase but we would be better off without it. LOL! The dollar is creeping back above 3 K so that should help a bit. Let's blame it on Duque.I don't know, seems like a more then 50% increase is a lot to me with out a remodel. I'd be happier if it was 10-20%.

I would try to find a better deal or get girls to show up earlier in the day. I can't remember how much it is but Botero hotel collects a fee for overnight guests. It isn't much. Your collective inputs have been so helpful but I really need some more guidance before heading out. Believe me, I have read the forum for the past two years preparing for this trip. Now it looks like I'm finally going. I know the Medellin forum in and out but some clarification from you veterans is needed.
1. It appears that condos will all have front desk staff. Are they cool about girls coming in? I mean, one girl a day is a bare minimum. Will I get a visit from the owner of the apt telling me to slow down, or worse, get out? I know that security is there for my safety but I'd rather not have those long stares and daily reports to the owner.
2. It appears from your reports that the scene is primarily a 'casa' one, in that you enter a place, get shown a line up and so on. Basically it is similar to Europe (Prague, Budapest) and massage scene in North America. Please note that I'm not whining, but as a matter of choice it is not my favorite scene. The Tranvia line drops you at the San Antonio station. The area the hotel is in is one of the best in El Centro and the rates go from $15 for a single bed to $20 for 2 doubles and a Jacuzzi tub. It's cash only, so you can probably get it for less in person.
Never been to the hotel, but walked and rode past it several times. A few blocks up the hill is a collection of discos and there are lots of small restaurants nearby.

I will try to answer some of your questions.
1. Many rental apartments have security, especially in high rise buildings. Many apartments have no security. Security isn't calling the apartment owner to report on your activities, unless your activities are generating complaints. Generally speaking, the owner understands and has no problems with bringing girls back, or they will specifically mention that guests aren't allowed. Ask before you book.
2. It appears, from all the reports, that the scene is not primarily a casa scene. There is a casa scene, although I've never once noticed a bunch of guys standing around holding their weiners. Maybe you've been going to the wrong kind of casas. There is a strip club scene. There is a streetwalker scene. There is an independent advertiser scene. There is a Facebook scene. Assuming otherwise is likely to ruin your day.
4. Your attentive reading must have dozed off. Most of the girls working in casas want to be paid extra for BBBJ. Some girls, no matter the scene, simply won't do it. Many girls, especially outside of the casas will give BBBJ without any prompting. CIM will usually need to be negotiated.

The 2 casas which are most frequently reviewed here are New Life and Energy. Neither of them is an apartment. None of the casas I've been to in Medellin are apartments. At New Life you enter through the door, go up a few stairs, buzz through a security gate, climb to the 2nd floor and arrive at the lounge area. There you will be seated in one of 4 places. The manager will ask if you want something to drink and will call for a lineup. Then girls will come out, I've seen only 7 on a holiday and over 25 on other days. There will probably be others waiting for a lineup as well. Once the lineup is finished you'll be asked for your choice. The girl will come out and lead you to a room on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd floor. The rooms have a bed, a fan and a bathroom with shower. When you finish she will lead you to the cashier where you'll pay depending on how much time you spent.
Energy is basically the same, except only 1 door to pass through and the rooms are larger and nicer.

The Tranvia line drops you at the San Antonio station. The area the hotel is in is one of the best in El Centro and the rates go from $15 for a single bed to $20 for 2 doubles and a Jacuzzi tub. It's cash only, so you can probably get it for less in person.
Never been to the hotel, but walked and rode past it several times. A few blocks up the hill is a collection of discos and there are lots of small restaurants nearby.
I think there is a prepay rate on expedia that's $36/ day.
Medellin. Pretty much the same all year, although less rain this time of year. Highs in the 80's. Lows in the 60's. Sun is hot, because of proximity to the equator. Low humidity.
Cartagena. Hot. Highs in the upper 80's, but the humidity makes it feel hotter. Reminds me of home here in Florida. A little more likely to have some rain during the day, but it rarely lasts.

Had a brief respite from work and this trip was a toss up between Medellin & San Jose. I was last in SJO about 8 years ago and was tempted to take a look again. Finally decided on MDE and below is a short report of my 7th trip.

It was over $10 per transaction. Roughly $10 from my credit card company and then the ATM fee. Lesson learned. I don't think I will ever leave my card in a machine again.

In Colombia, you cannot get a credit card advance from a bank. I tried 2 banks and was told the same thing. It was a government thing.I tried the same thing in Colombia back in March. I waited in line for about 10 minutes inside a Bancolombia, and tried to take out a cash advance with a bank teller for $1,000. I was politely told it's not allowed at all banks in Colombia. You have to use the ATM's.
Also, using my debit card is not an option as Chase Bank, last I checked, has a block on all transactions in Colombia. I considered buying Colombian pesos from Chase prior to my trip, but the exchange rate was around 2700 pesos / or about 5-7% worse than when what I'm getting from the ATM's.
The option of bringing dollars & exchanging in Colombia for pesos is a no-go given their rates are around 2700 (last I checked). Not to mention the "giving blood" process that that is.
The $10 fee to my credit card company could be worse. I have other credit cards that charge more. As for the higher interest rate on the cash-advance balances, I don't pay that as I monitor my credit card balances, and post full-payments the same day the cash advance posts.
I guess if I decide to go to Colombia regularly I will get a Schwab account, or get a better bank for debit cards in Colombia.

How are you finding P4P action at home? Strip clubs? Go to the strip clubs. Tinder, Seeking Arrangements or some similar site? Use it in Medellin. Online ads? Same. Bao Bei in Poblado is excellent and there's a fairly new Vietnamese place in Poblado with a Vietnamese American owner, assuming it's still in business. I believe it's on Carrera 34 close to Calle 10. I had decent sushi a few places, but one was Poblado and the other Envigado. There are a few sushi places close to Parque Segundo, but I can't personally recommend any.
Probably your best bet is Full Arabe for Lebanese food. Excellent food, reasonable prices. El Apache does a reasonable steak. Orale is a decent Mexican restaurant in Laureles. Milagros is another. There's a 3rd I liked, but can't remember the name.
For burgers, Chef Burger is good. Tik Took Burger Bar is also quite good. The area best to search is west of La 70, between Circular 2 and Calle 41, especially along Avenida Nutibara.
2. I didn't spend much time in the Laureles clubs. Imperatum is a decent bet. I normally wasn't out and about after 11 when things start to pick up, so not sure what's more to your tastes. Fonda Mi Suegra at the north end has the cheapest cheap beer (Pilsen or Aguila) and it's a decent place to sit by the street and people watch. Años 60 tends to have an older crowd and gets a good crowd. Probably not the best spot for freelancers. Earlier in the night, La Charcu pulls a good crowd and looks popular with the 25-30 crowd. There's a place, only open on the weekends, that might be what you're looking for. It's located over and next to the Ali Baba sex shop on 70. The crowd always looked to be a bit older than most of the discos.
Your feet are your friends here. It's not too long of a walk from the stadium down to UPB, which is where the clubs are all located. Not sure if you'll find a lot of freelancers, but there are plenty of working girls who post pics from the La 70 discos, so you might get lucky on the weekend.

For example, if you took money out today (Thursday) you would get the closing rate that was on xe.com Tuesday. Usually, I receive about .2% less than the xe rate.
Some people say your bank determines the rate you receive, but I have reasons to doubt that. Most likely, the transaction goes through a clearing house which sets the rate.

Staying at Energy Living. The building and the views are absolutely stunning. The entire building is clean and upscale and you can sense that as soon as you walk in. Had dinner at Carmen in Poblado checked out the street action. Some of these girls are drop dead gorgeous but look way too young and picking up street girls ain't my thing.
So we head over to Gustos around 1130. There was about 20 girls when we walked in.

1. Asian food. Bao Bei in Poblado is excellent and there's a fairly new Vietnamese place in Poblado with a Vietnamese American owner, assuming it's still in business. I believe it's on Carrera 34 close to Calle 10.Does Bao Bei serve pho?
Staying at Energy Living. The building and the views are absolutely stunning. The entire building is clean and upscale and you can sense that as soon as you walk in. Had dinner at Carmen in Poblado checked out the street action. Some of these girls are drop dead gorgeous but look way too young and picking up street girls ain't my thing.

Same product in the mall cost more. My advice is if your in a place where the prices are high, she's not leaving with you and missing the guy that's going to pay her 5 x as much unless she's in desperate mode. I went to this apartment yesterday. It is near the corner of Avenida Nutibara and Calle 44. The bed and bathroom were excellent.

But there is a caveat. Have you read the forum extensively? Are you planning on wearing shorts, designer shades, gold chains, pulling out your I-phone X every 30 seconds? Because if you do things like that you might.
Just as well carry a billboard sign saying "Hey Medellin, I'm a gringo, come and get me" and they will. But, if you dress casual like Colombians, keep your phone in your pocket or judiciously pick your places to pull it out.
Keep your money in a money-belt or a hidden pocket and pay attention to what's around you. I don't imagine you would have the slightest problem.

Then again, why go there at all? A walk around Parque Lleras and you'll find dozens of other clubs and chances are good you'll find a few working girls in most, or you'll be able to see them working their way up and down the streets. You'll also find that their prices will be $100 or less. $67 and $50 are possible. That's roughly 300, 200 and 150 k in local currency vs. 600 k at Gusto.
Of course, if you want to see everything MDE has to offer, you'll need to walk by La Copa Del Rey and El Rey de Copas and about 40 other bars in El Centro. You'll find working girls in almost every one and their prices run from 30 k to 100 k. Most won't be dressed as nice as the girls in Gusto, but plenty look just as good. And you can find them at 2 pm instead of 11 pm.
However, wandering around El Centro alone can be intimidating. Especially if the toothless one legged hooker comes hopping up to you.

Why hesitant to hit Gusto alone? I can understand being hesitant to hit La Copa del Rey (an El Centro bar) alone, but Gusto is gringo ground zero. There will probably be other gringos who are there alone. Certainly there will be working girls there who will be happy to introduce themselves. Of course, if you want to see everything MDE has to offer, you'll need to walk by La Copa Del Rey and El Rey de Copas and about 40 other bars in El Centro. You'll find working girls in almost every one and their prices run from 30 k to 100 k. Most won't be dressed as nice as the girls in Gusto, but plenty look just as good. And you can find them at 2 pm instead of 11 pm.

Staying at Energy Living. The building and the views are absolutely stunning. The entire building is clean and upscale and you can sense that as soon as you walk in. It's so / so, not to bad right at the park due to the police substation, it gets scarier every block you go west (above Ave Maracaibo ie Calle53) till you pass the Metro and it get real scary. I usually only go 1 block and a half to the strip clubs at night but I have been down that way on foot for dinner after dark a few times, seemed OK, but I haven't been there past midnight, if you want to be Casa centric would be good, for the strip clubs I would stay a few more blocks west, Maracaibo Ave or lower. I have considered staying at Hotel Cristal ($26) or Hotel Capitolio ($33-Cra. 49 #57-28) they are right behind the Catedral Baslica Metropolitana de Medelland (the big brick church at Parque Bolivar) side by side and share a small swimming pool.
More TS street girls in that area so check carefully.

Hacienda is conveniently located and well managed. The traditional Colombian dishes are well prepared but there is not much variety in the menu. Most everything is made with pork so be ready for that.
Credenza on one of the upper floors of the language school is good and not too far from parque Bolivar / Plaza Botero / Maracaibo. You can walk to it safely after dark because the route is crowded. There is a varied menu.
Those are go to options around Centro I can recommend. For better quality you have to go to Laureles / la 70 or Poblado / Provenza.

I am not in my right mind admittedly. Out of force of habit I normally have US $500 or so in my wallet at all times, wherever I am. I usually have about half that amount or so in local currency. I'm crazy but also cheap. I wouldn't pay a girl in Colombia US $200 even if I just won the lottery. It's so / so, not to bad right at the park due to the police substation, it gets scarier every block you go west (above Ave Maracaibo ie Calle53) till you pass the Metro and it get real scary. I usually only go 1 block and a half to the strip clubs at night but I have been down that way on foot for dinner after dark a few times, seemed OK, but I haven't been there past midnight, if you want to be Casa centric would be good, for the strip clubs I would stay a few more blocks west, Maracaibo Ave or lower. I have considered staying at Hotel Cristal ($26) or Hotel Capitolio ($33-Cra. 49 #57-28) they are right behind the Catedral Baslica Metropolitana de Medelland (the big brick church at Parque Bolivar) side by side and share a small swimming pool.

We both know reading ISG or not is not going to drive any bandit's decision about how to plan robberies. If the opportunity presents itself and it seems like an easy score, criminals tend to go for it. I take reasonable precautions to avoid becoming a target but shit happens. I did something crazy and at the last minute took the bus in rush hour. 30 min. There and 15 minutes. BackThank God I didn't get loss. I got dropped off a min. Walk from the door. They definitely get dolled up to be in there. Truth be told, Gustos and places like it are all about convenience. It's not hard but it does take time to build contacts and get to know a few reliable providers. I think facebook is the fastest way to do it at a lot less than half the price of Gustos type places.
Casas are of course quick and cheap but the quality isn't as high as other options. Of course for 50 K or less, how much quality can anybody expect? It's good for a quick pop. The best place for a newbie to go is the Mansion. Because you learn a price point that gives you a decent looking girl with an above average experience for most guys.

Have fun!I can't help with short-term hotels near Poblado but I used two motels that were within walking distance of my apartment while staying in Laureles.
The first one is called Hotel Aloha Suite. It is where, I am assuming, the students from a local university that is across the street go. Anyway you see many young people coming and going into the hotel. The address is Carrera 66 be No 34 be -14. I paid between 28,000 pesos and 40,000 pesos for 3 hours depending on day and whether or not I had a discount card.
The nicer one and the one I would recommend is called Thematic Luxury Suites. It is located at Calle 33 No. 64-94. It is across the street from Luna Lunera. I paid between 28,000 and 52,000 pesos for 3 hours depending on day and discount.
One warning is that your chica is probably going to want something from the minibar like a Smirnov Ice so add 20,000 pesos.
You can play music as loud as you want. You don't have to worry about neighbors thinking you're a sleazebag running multiple chicas up to your room. You can use massage oil and screw up the sheets without worrying about washing and changing them the next day. For a guy who likes to stay low on the radar I really like this option if you doing the Facebook, Agency and Tinder scene.
