Don't know why you would take a bus to El Centro and then take all your stuff on a Metro to Laureles? Anyway, I used Uber a lot for day trips to various areas around Medellin. Hopefully I will find one of the driver's contact card
Taxis, Easy Taxis, Didis, etc work fine. Life is all about change. I myself am changing from staying in Centro to staying in Laureles next week. And I am still deciding whether to take my usual bus to downtown then the train to Laureles, or to just taxi a taxi from the airport directly to Laureles. Old habits die hard..

I was in Indonesia earlier this month, everyone is using Uber alternative called Grab and there is also another one, forgot the name. I flagged a taxi on a street once, poor chap, no English, no GPS, I had to help him navigate off my phone using sign language the whole time. I'll never get in a cab in Asia again unless it's via an app. There's just no way to communicate.

It's also worth checking the price quote on Cabify because sometimes it's as cheap as the others. I'm not a fan of Indriver because you need to fuck around guessing what is a good price to bid. It's part of their growth-at-all-costs model, which also includes them giving deep discounts at a loss in an effort to take market share from other ride share apps. This is why they're facing the consequences in so many places though.
Other apps appear to be more conservative, including Lyft in the US, so they end up taking less heat.

I didn't like it for precisely that reason, let me add more detail for other mongers sake. Both times I went there, there were 4 and 6 locals there, probably 40's and 50's, getting hammered in the lobby area. If you like this kind of environment pre-fucking the pros, then this place is for you. In my first two weeks in Medellin, I didn't know how to handle Facebook girls, they normally come in, have sex, and out of my apartment in 45 minutes. Last year I watched the game here in Medellin in an apartment that had multiple cable stations airing the game. And all of the stations had sportscasters speaking in Spanish calling the game. After flipping thru numerous stations airing the game, I found one that had the sportscaster's who were actually calling the game in English. I was excited when I found this station, and was looking forward to seeing all the crazy commercials, almost as good as the game at times, but was disappointed when there was break, and there were none of the US commercials. This make's sense of course as there is no market in Colombia for what's being advertised in the US.
So the question is, does anybody know of a station on cable carrying the game in English including the US commercials, or a bar or other venue that will have the game including the US commercials.Patrick's will have the game, probably including the commercials. If you have a laptop and an HDMI cable, you can subscribe to YouTube TV and hook up to your apartment TV. It doesn't technically work in Colombia so there are 2 things you need to do.
First use a VPN and set your location in a US city. Your home city will work. Then you have to set your browser location to GPS coordinates in that city. That's a little more involved.
Use Google maps to find your desired GPS coordinates. You'll get something like this: 35.1383976, -90.0460160, latitude and longitude in that order.
Once you have that, open your Google Chrome browser. Press Ctrl+Shift+I to open the Developer Console. Click on the 3 dots, bottom left of the window. Click "Sensors", click "Geolocation", click "Custom location", then enter in your desired latitude and longitude.
Now all you need to do is log into YouTube TV, choose your location station and watch the game.
By the way, the coordinates above will put you on Beale Street in Memphis.

Before deciding to walk the streets of El Centro, think about your comfort zone. If you live in a city where there are street girls, are you comfortable talking with them? Or do you slow down, get a good look and then drive off? It's going to be 10 times harder when you're walking among dozens of them and you don't understand a word.
Next, how are you with the worst areas of your city? Do you avoid them and make sure the doors are locked if you have to drive through? Or can you walk down the street relaxed? We parked right next to Plaza Botero, across from Conejitas, and toured the plaza. The boyfriend never took his eyes off his car, even though 4 cops were standing 10 feet away. He nearly shit himself when we drove west from there to get to the autopista.
It can be intimidating. At times, the crowds are ridiculous. There's noise and garbage and passed out glue sniffers. There are people selling Bibles, beside people selling porn, beside a church. Some of the girls will try to grab you. Some of the trannies will try to grab you. Guys yelling "blue jeanez" will try to guide you into stores. Guys clapping their hands will try to guide you into bars. Guys waving menus will try to guide you into restaurants. Pedestrians do not have the right of way.
Whether or not you speak Spanish isn't the issue. It's whether or not you can handle the whole experience.

I have two cell phones. One is my USA cell phone, an "I" phone, with Verizon service in the USA. It's my lifeline with my kids, business, and other matters in the USA. If I lose it or it gets stolen, there is no way I can get my number replaced in Colombia. That is what Verizon has told me. Hence it doesn't leave my apartment unless I am going somewhere very specific, etc. And I am grateful that when I got held up by gunpoint with my Chica about a month ago that they didn't go thru my pockets. All of my WhatsApp contacts are on this phone, everything. To further illustrate, when I use my ATM / Credit cards here I sometimes get text messages to confirm transactions. And all kinds of other types of text messages. So without my cell phone I can get blocked out of pulling money out of ATM's and then have to make a whole bunch of time consuming phone calls.
So my other phone is a Nokia Colombian burner phone. Not a smart phone. So if your in the same situation I am in with a USA cell phone, I suggest you purchase a burner phone for like $ 20 USD, you will be given a number which I believe will be good for thirty days before it will be shut off if not registered, and keep you other phone locked up. I suggest service from Claro as they have offices everywhere while the other providers have very few offices.
I am sure there are other ways around this for the technical savy guy's on this board which I am not.

The following are my concerns regarding carrying cell phones around Medellin.
I have two cell phones. One is my USA cell phone, an "I" phone, with Verizon service in the USA. It's my lifeline with my kids, business, and other matters in the USA. If I lose it or it gets stolen, there is no way I can get my number replaced in Colombia. That is what Verizon has told me. Hence it doesn't leave my apartment unless I am going somewhere very specific, etc. And I am grateful that when I got held up by gunpoint with my Chica about a month ago that they didn't go thru my pockets. All of my WhatsApp contacts are on this phone, everything. To further illustrate, when I use my ATM / Credit cards here I sometimes get text messages to confirm transactions. And all kinds of other types of text messages. So without my cell phone I can get blocked out of pulling money out of ATM's and then have to make a whole bunch of time consuming phone calls..If you have att as your service provider, then just bring an extra iPhone and an extra att SIM card. Make sure you have a way to check your email (needed for two factor authentication) and make a phone call to att without your phone. I typically have an iPad and a MacBook hidden somewhere, I use Skype to call att. Att can activate your SIM card on your backup iPhone, iCloud will restore all your contents and settings. You will be up and running with your US phone in matter of minutes, like you never lost it.

I have two recommendations for your can't replace the phone number situation:
1. Get your US number transferred to any carrier other than Sprint or Verizon (all the other carriers use SIM cards).
2. Keep a spare SIM card in a secure place like you now keep your US phone.
If your phone and SIM card were lost or stolen, you could activate the spare SIM with your US number within a few minutes. Most of the carriers let you do it from their web sites. The non SIM technology Verizon and Sprint use was all there was in the 80's and 90's. The rest of the world carriers moved on decades ago.
If you want to get really fancy you can go with a dual SIM phone, but you would have to move away from the iphone to do that.

My first report to this site. Hope you enjoy and I am open to comments and questions that you may have.
I arrived at Medellin Airport late at night on Saturday. I went to the first ATM that I found near the baggage claim at the airport to have some Colombian pesos on me for the trip. As I was walking through the airport I was constantly asked if I needed a taxi by guys just standing around in the airport. I would ask each of them how much (cuánto cuesta). All of them were saying 80,000 COP (ochenta mil). So, I kept walking until I got to the taxi stand outside where there was a group of taxi drivers. I asked if any of them spoke English and nobody did. So, I asked again, how much to my hotel, and again I was quoted 80,000 COP. So, I agreed to the price, and off we went. I felt comfortable that, even if I was getting the gringo price, I was getting the generally accepted "gringo" price. You guys should also take into consideration that it is a long drive from the airport to the city. On top of that, there is a toll of 18,000 COP for taking the tunnel through the mountain to the city. This route cuts down the driving time from about an hour to less than half an hour. When we arrived at my hotel I gave the taxi drive the agreed price without hassle.
I was staying at the Hotel Ibis was I enjoyed very much and had no issues. As I entered the building I noticed a very attentive security guard sitting at the desk just inside the entrance. The front desk did not speak English but I did not make it complicated for the registration process. I handed them my phone with the reservation confirmation open on it, my passport and my credit card I made the reservation with. I has handed back the phone and credit card. After entering my data from my passport I was handed that back as well as a form to sign (firma or firmar). I was off to my room to grab a quick shower so I could head off to my first club of choice for this Saturday night.
I forgot to mention, the taxi that I took to my hotel, he gave me his Whatsapp number to call if I needed a ride. So, after my shower I gave him a text to see if he was available and he was. He actually was downstairs waiting for me before I could get down the elevator. So, I asked him to take me to an ATM, so I could get more money. Which he did, a place that was empty, well lit, in a safe neighborhood, where I did not feel worried about grabbing a stack of cash. I did like the location of my hotel because it was rather close to my first destination. My first club that I went to was La Isla. The Girls.
So, I am going to try to give you guys as much information as I can from what I can remember of the club. I walked into the entrance of the club where I was greeted by a security guard who motioned for me to be checked. I stood sideways and put my arms up for a cursory search for weapons. They don't care about cell phones. I was told there was a 10,000 COP cover, which I paid and was on my way inside. As of yet, I still have not met a single English speaking person. All of my communication so far has been the result of my retained high school Spanish or figuring it out other ways. I walked inside to see a very open floor plan with a dance stage running along the center. When I was asked where I wanted to sit I set my eyes on the comfortable looking couches next to the stage. I was seated there and was immediately asked what kind of beer I wanted. I explained in my broken Spanish that I didn't like beer but would like a coke. To which the waiter asked if I would pay beer price for the coke. At that point I presumed that having a beer was compulsory or obligated either by being in the establishment or by where I was sitting. So, I agreed to the coke at beer price, which I am having trouble remembering the exact price. Since I can't remember the price I am not going to lie about it. So, I sat comfortably in my couch and enjoyed the view from around me. I saw a beautiful girl dancing on the stage, not really grinding or anything too strip club like. Just kinda slow dancing swaying. As I looked around the club I saw beautiful women everywhere. All of them pretty, although they were not all my type. As I sat in my couch, watching the dancing and admiring the beauty of the girls around me I realized I was in my element. This is exactly what I came to Colombia to experience. Just sitting there in comfort, not being hounded, and enjoying the view (I call it eye candy).
Shortly after I was seated, maybe 10 minutes or so, I was asked to move from the couch at the side of the stage to a couch at the end of the stage. I don't really know the reason for it, but I really don't care. I assume they were making a space for a couple of guys that sat down there. I don't know how much sense that made because the place they moved me to seemed to be as much room. But it was no sweat off of my back. So, I started people watching. Seeing how things were going on in the club. One of the first things you will notice is that the guys do, and can, be handsy with the girls. This doesn't seem to bother the girls at all. From squeezing there ass or tits, to grinding them during a dance. It was everywhere, all the time. The whole time I was taking this in I had some many questions. Like, what is the rundown. How much does it cost for this and that. With nobody their who spoke English I really had no one to ask my questions. But since I was in my element, I enjoyed the view and not being hounded. Eventually another group of guys came to the couch on my left and were funny guys to watch. They way the acted, danced, interacted with the girls, it was hilarious. Later in the night, one of them sat down at my couch and introduced himself to me. I am sure he saw how entertained I was be their behavior.

She motioned to the small bills that were stuck all over her outfit and what she had in her hand. So, I figured she wanted a tip. At the time I didn't have any small bills on me in Colombian pesos. So, I noticed that one of the bills on her was a $1 bill (USA). So, I opened my wallet and grabbed a single and tipped her, to which she seemed very happy. I know I have read in this forum about "Propina". Which is Spanish for tip. The reason I capitalized "Propina" is because of it's importance, not that it was supposed to be. For some reason, the concept of the tip escaped me, maybe I was just overcome by everything I was seeing. When the girls dance on the stage you don't throw bills onto the stage, although it occasionally happened, you wait for them to come around and tip them then. Believe me, they will come around. To every single customer in the place. I call it "trick or treating", because to me, that is what it seems like. After the girls perform their stage show they will go to the back room, get dressed, and make their rounds. As they get to each customer they will ask for their "Propina". Some customers will just give them their tip or make them work for it. They do this by dangling the tip to see what else they do for it. Most of the time the girls will start twerking or giving you a lap dance. As long as you are willing to give them a tip they will keep on giving you a private show. You remember earlier, when I mentioned that I tipped the girl $1 (USA). I quickly realized that the 2,000 COP bills that they had on their bodies was a much more practical way to go. Not that they didn't deserve a $1 bill tip, but to make my money last longer. At current exchange rates, 2,000 COP is the equivalent of just under 60 cents. So, if you ever heard of anyone mentioning the 60 cent lap dance it might be because that is what it is. I kept myself stocked with the 2,000 COP bills for the girls whenever they came around I was ready. Some girls I would just had the tip to their pleasure. Other girls, that I liked a little more, I would get a little more risque about the placement of my tip. Either way, the girls were happy to get a 2,000 COP tip. The girls would definitely get bent out of shape whenever a customer didn't give a tip. I saw it on from their reactions.
As I write this report, I realize that I am kind of bouncing around a little. I apologize for that and how long the report is. But I am just trying to give you the information as I remember it. There were two things that surprised me by the environment at La Isla. First, as I gazed around at all of the girls at La Isla, and there were over 30, probably more. I thought to myself, "Oh, they have some girls that do stage shows and some that don't. " Not true at all. All of these beautiful women perform stage shows. Some more enthusiastically than others. There was this hit couple of girls that performed a stage show that was very hot and seemed choreographed. The other surprise to me is that smoking is not permitted in La Isla, however, vaping is. First we stopped by a place for me to pay the fee and then she went to get herself ready. Shortly later we were on the way to the room. I know some guys like a play by play report but I am going to stick to the basics. First, the girl was very attentive and into the session. Sometimes that number is smaller than the meter number, sometimes it is more. I don't know why that is but it has happened both ways. When the meter is running you can keep an eye on the amount you owe, when the trip is finished the taxi pushes a button and then the total appears. Sometimes this number is lower than the amount that appeared before he pushed a button. I also got really bothered by a couple taxi issues but I am going to save that for my Bogota report. When I walked into the doors I, again, noticed a very attentive security guard. Made me feel safer knowing that he was there. I went to the bar of the hotel because I was hungry. Asked if they had anything to eat and they gave me a basket of apples. I selected the one I liked and they gave it to me for free. I know these details are pointless to the forum, so I will wrap it up here real quick. I ended up staying at the bar chatting with a drunk Peruvian, and two Colombians. We communicated through my broken Spanish and the Peruvians broken English. The reason I included this info is this wasn't me. What I mean by that is that I am not a people person. I do not like to socialize. But at this time I did it and I rather enjoyed the interaction. I went to bed a little after 6 am. Which means we were chatting for a little over a couple hours.
Which brings me to day two. I am not going to bore the people of this forum with the details of my mall shopping trip. It was just weird that as I was walking around the mall that I was at I looked out and saw my destination for later that night. I don't think it is that hard for anybody to guess which destination that would be. So, I am looking out from the mall and across the street is Fase Dos. I thought, how funny is that. It was a Sunday and I have been warned on this forum about slow times. I didn't know what to expect on a Sunday evening at Fase Dos, both in quantity and in quality. I noticed, via the maps from this forum, that Fase Dos opens at 9 pm and I arrived shortly after 9 pm. Same thing here as at La Isla. A 10 k cover and a cursory search for weapons. I was also informed ahead of my entrance that the were only three girls there at that time. I agreed to enter but was glad that they told me. This is when I encountered my first complaint for this trip. Fase Dos apparently doesn't care about the comfort of its guests. Your seating choices are all either uncomfortable bar stools, or uncomfortable wooden bar stools. If you sit anywhere other than at the bar they require you to buy a bottle service. Two things that barred me from doing that. First, I don't drink. Second, even if I paid for the service for the seat, the seats weren't comfortable enough for me to want to pay for the bottle service. I want to say that they were charging something like 130 k for a bottle of Aguardiente. I don't know if that included anything other than the table. So, I sat rather uncomfortably at the bar the whole night. I saw one guy fall of off his wooden bar stool from the leaning back in it. I saw it almost happen again. The girls here are just as beautiful as the girls at La Isla. There is a lot of silicon as indicated on multiple reports but to my surprise these were very well done enhancements and not too many looking like barby doll enhancements like I saw with several La Isla girls. There really isn't a best time. After 8 most of the area empties out. After 9 there's no reason to be out unless you're going to the strip clubs,
I have two recommendations for your can't replace the phone number situation:
1. Get your US number transferred to any carrier other than Sprint or Verizon (all the other carriers use SIM cards).
2. Keep a spare SIM card in a secure place like you now keep your US phone.
If your phone and SIM card were lost or stolen, you could activate the spare SIM with your US number within a few minutes. Most of the carriers let you do it from their web sites. The non SIM technology Verizon and Sprint use was all there was in the 80's and 90's. The rest of the world carriers moved on decades ago.
If you want to get really fancy you can go with a dual SIM phone, but you would have to move away from the iphone to do that.This is good information, however I am reluctant to change carriers in that the Verizon service internationally has been excellent. I've been all over the world with no problems receiving and making calls when I cannot use Whatsapp.
Any recommendations for another carrier with equal service, and I know Verizon is expensive.
If you have att as your service provider, then just bring an extra iPhone and an extra att SIM card. Make sure you have a way to check your email (needed for two factor authentication) and make a phone call to att without your phone. Arrived at ground zero at 4:30 PM on Saturday looking for one of my street urchins and noticed a large crowd in front of the Veracruz Church with an approximate 100 foot wide area cordoned off by the police. There was quite a crowd, perhaps two hundred people watching while a coroner and helper were processing an older dead Colombian about five feet away from the main entry into the Church. An interesting crowd with the She-males territory being taken over by all the on lookers including lots of hookers. So the guy helping the coroner was going thru the dead guys stuff in his pockets and handing it over to the Coroner and than they finally put the guy on the gurney and carted him off.
I can only imagine that this poor old Colombian was trying to make it inside the Church to repent, but collapsed before he could make it. Just another day in El Centro.

The Tall Man posts much less often that he use to but for what it is worth just wanted to share my experience from yesterday (Saturday January 25,2020) and my visit to 2 casas in Medellin which I have not done in 2 or 3 years.
8 or 9 years ago I frequented the casas but much less in the intertwining years. It has been about 2 plus years since my last visit to New Life and a good 3 plus years since my last visit to Energy.

You can check your voicemails and text messages from any internet connection. I dropped my phone on the first day (in the immigration hall) of my last month long MDE trip. While nothing cracked, the screen died. I quickly accessed all my text messages, voice mails and even made and received phone calls from my tablet and backup phone using Google Hangouts. Transferring my whatsapp and other critical apps over took 10 minutes. No time consuming calls. If you phone is stolen, you can wipe the phone with the click of a button. Google also provides a 2nd sim card which I already had in a cheap backup cell phone ($60 Moto G6). I was surprised how well that cheap phone met my needs. Like you I'm concerned about loosing my phone (for all the same reasons) so I travel with a cheap backup. I don't bother with a local Colombian number any more, it is just too convenient to have one number and one main phone. BTW Google replaced my phone under warranty after I returned to the US, it had no cracks or dents on it. There were some limitations with Iphones, which I think could be one of the few negatives with Google if you are an Iphone aficionado. They have information about that on their web site.

I have two cell phones. One is my USA cell phone, an "I" phone, with Verizon service in the USA. It's my lifeline with my kids, business, and other matters in the USA. If I lose it or it gets stolen, there is no way I can get my number replaced in Colombia. That is what Verizon has told me. Hence it doesn't leave my apartment unless I am going somewhere very specific, etc. And I am grateful that when I got held up by gunpoint with my Chica about a month ago that they didn't go thru my pockets. All of my WhatsApp contacts are on this phone, everything. To further illustrate, when I use my ATM / Credit cards here I sometimes get text messages to confirm transactions. And all kinds of other types of text messages. So without my cell phone I can get blocked out of pulling money out of ATM's and then have to make a whole bunch of time consuming phone calls.

I'm using TMobile on my personal phone for more than 10 years and had no problems to have service worldwide. TMobile gives you free unlimited data (2 G) almost everywhere and 0. 25/ min for calls. I had no issues with internet connection in 10 European countries, Israel. China, Thailand, Russia, DR, Bahamas, Colombia. It even worked at ski slopes in Alps. It's not the fastest but enough to make WatsApp / Viber / Skype calls, Waze, Google Voice, Google Maps, email even Youtube. And you can make free WIFI calls when you connected to WIFI in hotel / Airbb / restaurant as you're in US. And it's much cheaper than Verizon.

I'm looking between Colombia and DR from a logistics and costs stand point. From where I'm located, a ticket to Brazil is about 1. 5-2 x the cost of a ticket to Colombia or DR. My next trip I plan for it to be 4-5 days. Brazil would need at least 7-8 days to justify the flight cost hence me looking between Colombia, Brazil or even Panama. I'm looking to change up my areas from Africa to the Latin hemisphere and I'm debating where's the best place to check out. In my part of town, DR (Sosua) is the main spot for a quick 4-5 day romp, however, I've heard that scene is slowly dying down.I've been following the Sosua news and things are too much in flux for my liking. The main strip has been shut down by the powers that be and the action has moved way up to the end of the road away from the beach. There are rumors of the main strip reopening but nothing has really panned out yet.
The big allure of being able to easily enjoy beach, food, weather, and entertainment in a small area is gone.
I'd wait until a couple of weeks after the February elections and see how things shake out before making any plans for Sosua. If Willy becomes mayor, the main strip will probably revert to the old days. If the current mayor stays in power, you can expect more movement towards the outskirts.

My first report to this site. Hope you enjoy and I am open to comments and questions that you may have.
I arrived at Medellin Airport late at night on Saturday. I went to the first ATM that I found near the baggage claim at the airport to have some Colombian pesos on me for the trip. As I was walking through the airport I was constantly asked if I needed a taxi by guys just standing around in the airport. I would ask each of them how much (cunto cuesta). All of them were saying 80,000 COP (ochenta mil). So, I kept walking until I got to the taxi stand outside where there was a group of taxi drivers. I asked if any of them spoke English and nobody did. So, I asked again, how much to my hotel, and again I was quoted 80,000 COP. So, I agreed to the price, and off we went. I felt comfortable that, even if I was getting the gringo price, I was getting the generally accepted "gringo" price. You guys should also take into consideration that it is a long drive from the airport to the city. On top of that, there is a toll of 18,000 COP for taking the tunnel through the mountain to the city. This route cuts down the driving time from about an hour to less than half an hour. When we arrived at my hotel I gave the taxi drive the agreed price without hassle.
I was staying at the Hotel Ibis was I enjoyed very much and had no issues. As I entered the building I noticed a very attentive security guard sitting at the desk just inside the entrance. The front desk did not speak English but I did not make it complicated for the registration process. I handed them my phone with the reservation confirmation open on it, my passport and my credit card I made the reservation with. I has handed back the phone and credit card. After entering my data from my passport I was handed that back as well as a form to sign (firma or firmar). I was off to my room to grab a quick shower so I could head off to my first club of choice for this Saturday night.
I forgot to mention, the taxi that I took to my hotel, he gave me his Whatsapp number to call if I needed a ride. So, after my shower I gave him a text to see if he was available and he was. He actually was downstairs waiting for me before I could get down the elevator. So, I asked him to take me to an ATM, so I could get more money. Which he did, a place that was empty, well lit, in a safe neighborhood, where I did not feel worried about grabbing a stack of cash. I did like the location of my hotel because it was rather close to my first destination. My first club that I went to was La Isla. The Girls.
So, I am going to try to give you guys as much information as I can from what I can remember of the club. I walked into the entrance of the club where I was greeted by a security guard who motioned for me to be checked. I stood sideways and put my arms up for a cursory search for weapons. They don't care about cell phones. I was told there was a 10,000 COP cover, which I paid and was on my way inside. As of yet, I still have not met a single English speaking person. All of my communication so far has been the result of my retained high school Spanish or figuring it out other ways. I walked inside to see a very open floor plan with a dance stage running along the center. When I was asked where I wanted to sit I set my eyes on the comfortable looking couches next to the stage. I was seated there and was immediately asked what kind of beer I wanted. I explained in my broken Spanish that I didn't like beer but would like a coke. To which the waiter asked if I would pay beer price for the coke. At that point I presumed that having a beer was compulsory or obligated either by being in the establishment or by where I was sitting. So, I agreed to the coke at beer price, which I am having trouble remembering the exact price. Since I can't remember the price I am not going to lie about it. So, I sat comfortably in my couch and enjoyed the view from around me. I saw a beautiful girl dancing on the stage, not really grinding or anything too strip club like. Just kinda slow dancing swaying. As I looked around the club I saw beautiful women everywhere. All of them pretty, although they were not all my type. As I sat in my couch, watching the dancing and admiring the beauty of the girls around me I realized I was in my element. This is exactly what I came to Colombia to experience. Just sitting there in comfort, not being hounded, and enjoying the view (I call it eye candy).
Shortly after I was seated, maybe 10 minutes or so, I was asked to move from the couch at the side of the stage to a couch at the end of the stage. How much does it cost for this and that. With nobody their who spoke English I really had no one to ask my questions. But since I was in my element, I enjoyed the view and not being hounded. Eventually another group of guys came to the couch on my left and were funny guys to watch. They way the acted, danced, interacted with the girls, it was hilarious. Later in the night, one of them sat down at my couch and introduced himself to me. I am sure he saw how entertained I was be their behavior.

So, I noticed that one of the bills on her was a $1 bill (USA). So, I opened my wallet and grabbed a single and tipped her, to which she seemed very happy. I know I have read in this forum about "Propina". Which is Spanish for tip. The reason I capitalized "Propina" is because of it's importance, not that it was supposed to be. For some reason, the concept of the tip escaped me, maybe I was just overcome by everything I was seeing. When the girls dance on the stage you don't throw bills onto the stage, although it occasionally happened, you wait for them to come around and tip them then. Believe me, they will come around. To every single customer in the place. I call it "trick or treating", because to me, that is what it seems like. After the girls perform their stage show they will go to the back room, get dressed, and make their rounds. As they get to each customer they will ask for their "Propina". Some customers will just give them their tip or make them work for it. They do this by dangling the tip to see what else they do for it. Most of the time the girls will start twerking or giving you a lap dance. As long as you are willing to give them a tip they will keep on giving you a private show. You remember earlier, when I mentioned that I tipped the girl $1 (USA). I quickly realized that the 2,000 COP bills that they had on their bodies was a much more practical way to go. Not that they didn't deserve a $1 bill tip, but to make my money last longer. At current exchange rates, 2,000 COP is the equivalent of just under 60 cents. So, if you ever heard of anyone mentioning the 60 cent lap dance it might be because that is what it is. I kept myself stocked with the 2,000 COP bills for the girls whenever they came around I was ready. Some girls I would just had the tip to their pleasure. Other girls, that I liked a little more, I would get a little more risque about the placement of my tip. Either way, the girls were happy to get a 2,000 COP tip. The girls would definitely get bent out of shape whenever a customer didn't give a tip. I saw it on from their reactions.
As I write this report, I realize that I am kind of bouncing around a little. I apologize for that and how long the report is. But I am just trying to give you the information as I remember it. There were two things that surprised me by the environment at La Isla. First, as I gazed around at all of the girls at La Isla, and there were over 30, probably more. I thought to myself, "Oh, they have some girls that do stage shows and some that don't. " Not true at all. All of these beautiful women perform stage shows. Some more enthusiastically than others. There was this hit couple of girls that performed a stage show that was very hot and seemed choreographed. The other surprise to me is that smoking is not permitted in La Isla, however, vaping is. First we stopped by a place for me to pay the fee and then she went to get herself ready. Shortly later we were on the way to the room. I know some guys like a play by play report but I am going to stick to the basics. First, the girl was very attentive and into the session. She made me rise to the occasion when I doubted that would be possible. Eventually going into CBJ with lots of eye contact and lots of suction. I could have lost it there. I took a taxi back to my hotel. No issues with the taxi. I just watched the meter and paid the amount plus a tip at the end of the trip. I also wait for the taxi to quote me the number for the ride. Sometimes that number is smaller than the meter number, sometimes it is more. I don't know why that is but it has happened both ways. When the meter is running you can keep an eye on the amount you owe, when the trip is finished the taxi pushes a button and then the total appears. Sometimes this number is lower than the amount that appeared before he pushed a button. I also got really bothered by a couple taxi issues but I am going to save that for my Bogota report. When I walked into the doors I, again, noticed a very attentive security guard. Made me feel safer knowing that he was there. I went to the bar of the hotel because I was hungry. Asked if they had anything to eat and they gave me a basket of apples. I selected the one I liked and they gave it to me for free. I know these details are pointless to the forum, so I will wrap it up here real quick. I ended up staying at the bar chatting with a drunk Peruvian, and two Colombians. We communicated through my broken Spanish and the Peruvians broken English. The reason I included this info is this wasn't me. What I mean by that is that I am not a people person. I do not like to socialize. But at this time I did it and I rather enjoyed the interaction. I went to bed a little after 6 am. Which means we were chatting for a little over a couple hours.
Which brings me to day two. I am not going to bore the people of this forum with the details of my mall shopping trip. It was just weird that as I was walking around the mall that I was at I looked out and saw my destination for later that night. I don't think it is that hard for anybody to guess which destination that would be. So, I am looking out from the mall and across the street is Fase Dos. I thought, how funny is that. It was a Sunday and I have been warned on this forum about slow times. I didn't know what to expect on a Sunday evening at Fase Dos, both in quantity and in quality. I noticed, via the maps from this forum, that Fase Dos opens at 9 pm and I arrived shortly after 9 pm. Same thing here as at La Isla. A 10 k cover and a cursory search for weapons. I was also informed ahead of my entrance that the were only three girls there at that time. I agreed to enter but was glad that they told me. This is when I encountered my first complaint for this trip. Fase Dos apparently doesn't care about the comfort of its guests. Your seating choices are all either uncomfortable bar stools, or uncomfortable wooden bar stools. If you sit anywhere other than at the bar they require you to buy a bottle service. Two things that barred me from doing that. First, I don't drink. Second, even if I paid for the service for the seat, the seats weren't comfortable enough for me to want to pay for the bottle service. I want to say that they were charging something like 130 k for a bottle of Aguardiente. I don't know if that included anything other than the table. So, I sat rather uncomfortably at the bar the whole night. I saw one guy fall of off his wooden bar stool from the leaning back in it. I saw it almost happen again. The girls here are just as beautiful as the girls at La Isla. There is a lot of silicon as indicated on multiple reports but to my surprise these were very well done enhancements and not too many looking like barby doll enhancements like I saw with several La Isla girls. I personally do not like enhancements, but these girls it looked pretty good on. Some of them you couldn't tell that they were enhancements until you had the opportunity to squeeze them or see if they defied gravity.

I'll offer some information about the taxis. The fare from the airport is a fixed rate set by the government, no gringo pricing. You were smart in bypassing the hawkers and going to a taxi outside. In the city, the minimum fare is 5,500. That may be the reason the fare was more than the meter. If the meter is more than 5,500, you should be charged what the meter reads.
For the guys who go to prepagos houses do you feel safe? How to proof yourself over there?? I noticed that the prepagos almost double the price when you asked them to come over your hotel or airbnb.
Can you get the small bills for the tips at the clubs?You can. You can do it after you enter the club or have the waiter change it, They have a bill counting machine too.
He got lucky with taxi. The club has cars that they want you to use when you leave. Usually the girls can take taxi thru another exit but not the customers.

The guys inside the airport aren't taxi drivers. They are freelancers. I made the mistake of taking one my first time in Bogota. Fortunately, the security at my hotel heard how much he tried to charge me and got the price reduced to something more reasonable, but still much too high.
If you exit the terminal at the left end, there's a big sign on the wall (Medellin) with the taxi fees.
There's a minimum taxi charge, currently 5500 pesos. I believe the meter begins at 3300 or 3400. There's no need to tip the taxis. Depending on fee, I'll maybe toss in an extra 200 pesos.
The standard price at La Isla is 300 k. No need to haggle, unless you're trying to get the girl to come to your room after work. Then you might get her cheaper. I believe 210 k is the current standard price at Fase 2. The clubs will happily break a large bill so you'll have tip money.
Stage side seats are usually reserved for bottle service. If you're not buying a bottle expect to be moved to a less desirable seat. I expect La Isla charges the same price for Coke and the cheaper beers.

Your welcome Fun Luvr. To answer your question. Yes, you can get smalls bills at the clubs. The Medellin clubs I visited had no problems giving me 2 mil bills for my 50 mil bills. I did have a problem at a club in Santa Fe, Bogota though. Stay tuned for that report later. Just count your bills so you know they made correct change.
Thanks for the detailed report. I appreciate the information about La Isla. Can you get the small bills for the tips at the clubs? I'll offer some information about the taxis. The fare from the airport is a fixed rate set by the government, no gringo pricing. You were smart in bypassing the hawkers and going to a taxi outside. In the city, the minimum fare is 5,500. That may be the reason the fare was more than the meter. If the meter is more than 5,500, you should be charged what the meter reads.

If you have att as your service provider, then just bring an extra iPhone and an extra att SIM card. Make sure you have a way to check your email (needed for two factor authentication) and make a phone call to att without your phone. I typically have an iPad and a MacBook hidden somewhere, I use Skype to call att. Att can activate your SIM card on your backup iPhone, iCloud will restore all your contents and settings. You will be up and running with your US phone in matter of minutes, like you never lost it.

I lost my phone once during my last trip to Medellin, it took me all but 15 minutes to activate my spare iPhone. An iPhone 8 in Medellin is still a respectable phone.

I downloaded and logged into all of the apps I need specific to Colombia. Indriver, Rappi, Facebook Messenger, Whatsapp etc. , (plus a very good camera which I plan to use) but it has none of my personal emails or banking apps on it. I'll get a movistar sim when I land and for $20-30 and have enough data to use it for the 3 weeks I'm there. If it gets stolen, not a big deal. The phone is logged into my icloud account and I can wipe it remotely. My US cell will stay at my Airbnb locked in the safe. If you wanted to be extra safe and still cost conscious, you could get (2) iPhone 7's for about $100-120 a piece and have 2 solid backup travel phones.
Oh, that's why most are in braces, makes sense. I was wondering what the reason was. The first thought that crossed my mind was that parents couldn't afford braces for their kids. Naive me.
