There is a push for so-called humanitarian flights to repatriate Colombians who are stranded in other countries. It is gaining momentum on social media. That might be a ray of hope for foreigners with residency who want to get back here. The catch is a 14 day quarantine is likely. That's not a big deal, the whole damn country is on quarantine anyway. Yesterday humanitarian flights were allowed out of El Dorado for mostly South Americans. Some of them have been stuck in the terminal since before the quarantine. The ones who didn't have money for hotels or food slept on the terminal floor and foraged. President Duque was heavily lobbied before he gave in and let them out.
She should have carried around a grocery bag with a couple items in it. You mean IF the quarantine is lifted. Cases are going up, not down.

I don't see Colombia letting anyone from the USA or Europe back into the Country until there is a proven vaccine approved by WHO and certified like the Yellow Fever Certificate required of other Countries..........I really hope you are wrong. That is exactly right. I first came to Colombia for work reasons and I've had years of professional interaction with Colombians. Although they participate it is frowned upon and a source of national shame. There is an active and years long campaign against sex tourism and the sex trade in general. One of my favorite Provenza restaurants has a "say no to sex tourism" sign prominently displayed.
Another way to look at it is the girls at the strip clubs are in it for the long run. They are committed and full of silicone as proof. You see much less of that at casas, especially the mid to low end (Centro) casas.

I did not see this coming. Botero Plaza is nearly back to normal. The only difference now is there are no tourists. The girls are back. The benches are full of people chatting. You have to get the money from designated ATMs or cash outlets. Like you who went out for a run there are more and more people out on the streets during the day. The rules haven't changed but with a little more than two weeks to go it's clear people are going about the business of getting groceries and medicine. There are only supermarkets, grocery stores and pharmacies that are open for business as usual. Restaurants are still delivery or take out only, mostly delivery. I know first hand of somebody who got the dreaded 936,000 peso fine. She was not able to make a case for being out for an essential purpose. My experience is if you can come up with one of the main exceptions (grocery, pharmacy or care for an elderly person) and if you are not loitering then you aren't going to have a problem. The traffic is so light it's going to be a shock next month when the quarantine is lifted.

So I am curious as to what type of ID do you think a Colombian official might accept. The only two I can think of for use during the lock-down for someone who is not a Citizen would either be a Cedula or Passport.
I do not envision the Colombian Government accepting as an example a driver's license, a USA Passport Card, or a USA Sentri Card as you can only enter the Colombia with a Passport as a foreigner coming from say North America or Europe.
Additionally, for those on this board who have Cedula's, and present your Passport if asked for, I suppose if they looked at your entry stamp into the Country and noted what type of visa you had, as an example for residents, they would mark it as Resident, this might raise a red flag with them asking for your Cedula.

You should shop around for banking options. There are many credit unions and even commercial banks that offer ATM fee rebate deals. I have one with a $5 minimum balance requirement for example. The Schwab deal that is popular on this site is really good if you have a brokerage account with them. What is not often mentioned is there is a waiting period to convert brokerage account balances to be accessible from ATMs. It's not a big deal but it means the ATM withdrawals aren't completely free. So the 400 k in other countries high but the standard Colombia rate outside of centro is a reasonable deal. 5 hrs, 3 nut very good. I wouldn't pay it though. My 3 some cost me 230 k. It probably wasnt as good as yours.

You actually did quite well for your three-some compared to what others have paid for something similar. There is quite a range on this board as to how much guys pay, and for guys that either live in Medellin, or have spent a lot of time there, they are going to be more in tune as to the economic situation here, such as the cost of living, wages, etc.

I opened a checking account which included a brokerage account with it to get the ATM card. Wrote a check that is deposited into the checking account. However long it takes to open the account. Once open I use the ATM and checking at will. Nothing ever goes into the brokerage account. So what are you talking about "transfer your money there" and "two weeks to get to the brokerage account"? You talking about when you first open account? Yes that can take time because I mailed in my application and then waited for the check to clear. Once the account is open everything is immediate. My ATM deducts money from the checking side.I sent money IE transferred it from my Local bank via online banking. It took 2 weeks and went to brokerage then 2 days later to checking. I also did whatever it was so they could get funds directly and that took a week and went to brokerage and then to checking 2 days later. My experience and wa ted to share. What I'm talking about is sending, transferring or depositing money into my Schwab checking account. My funds went to the brokerage account and then I had to transfer to the checking. Don't know why but that's the way it was. That's what I experienced with my first two deposits, one with the online banking and the other using Schwab's system. That's what I'm talking about.
