I have never had to do the registration thing and neve had to show my passport to get it.
Also as for needing to buy credit as well, yes it is true you may have to but the sim card will come with a small amount of credit so it is possible to use it and get more credit using your card.
My last one I bought in the corner shop for 4000 COP 4 months ago and I still haven't used all the credit.

.Sounds like a very common Paisa hood-rat. Although they have more manners and respect than US pot-obsessed hood-rats, I would not want to live with one for even a day. Be prepared for this possible scenario, she insists that you venture with her into deeply depressed barrios where she can buy weed on the cheap or from her network of friends. When you arrive she instructs you to wait for her, alone, as it is not safe for you to go further. That may be true, or, she just doesn't want to be seen with you in there. 1) For local calls, SMS, and for moving around at night in questionable places, buy a traditional old plain GSM phone from any small shop (a brand new Nokia working on American bands costed me 20 k COP some years ago). Buy a disposable prepaid SIM card for it, for few dollars. I did register my GSM phone at a Claro point several years ago, but Mr. Knowledge says that now it is even simpler (http://www.internationalsexguide.nl/forum/showthread.php?583-Medellin-Reports&p=2500658&viewfull=1#post2500658).
Having this phone will allow you to call anyone also from bad streets or "nidos de perros" without attracting unwanted attention.
2) In Colombia, I would NOT suggest to put a local SIM card in your personal phone, and for a variety of reasons:
- you need to register your phone, or it will be be blocked in a few days (once blocked, you cannot go back);
- unless you have a dual SIM, you will have to give your Colombia number to your relatives and work colleagues in your country to be contacted during your travel (do they know you are in Colombia?).
If you keep your SIM in your phone, your phone will NOT have to be registered in Colombia: it will work in roaming. Disable data roaming to not be overcharged, and connect to wifi for all data applications. Your family and work colleagues might not even know you are in Colombia, as your phone will ring as if you were in your country (there is a pitfall here: if you are out of reach, the recorded message will be from the Colombia operator, reveling where you were before switching off the phone).
3) Buy a 4G mobile Wifi modem (mifi), where you will put the local prepaid cheap SIM. This is a small investment, which will be worth for years of travels anywhere you go in the world.
You will have to register that IMEI, unless you buy it from an operator of your country (in that case, it is preregistered. I have never registered mine, and it was never blocked). Go around (except questionable places where you do not want to have anything of value with you) with your mifi in your pocket. Your personal wifi will be with you and around you at all times. Your phone will be always online, using data from your mifi, but in roaming for voice. The only precaution is to avoid to answer calls, because roaming calls may be expensive, and call back using SkypeOut or WeChatOut, nearly for free.

I differ on your assessment I don't think you have the prior story. I am in Colombia and was with her recently and had an amazing time. Weed is a common use globally so her issue is not an oddity especially with young people. The problem could be more me in that I only smoke a tiny bit of weed prior to sex and look at smoking it otherwise as a weakness or nuisances. I didn't seen signs of a hoodrat. As I traveled around Colombia for the past few weeks (Bogota and elsewhere) so I have not been in centro for the past almost 3 weeks but sounds like things are going on as normal in centro.
I don't even bother posting my experiences or asking questions on other places as again it takes the admin a day or two to approve my posts but by then any spontaneity is gone.

Both are on the right as you are walking away from baggage claim. ATM's at the airport are the same as in the city.

Personally, I prefer to avoid having with me any smartphone if I am in a bad place, because even if cheap it may be interesting for a thief. It is a smartphone. This is to explain why I keep that old GSM.
The mifi is not expected to attract much attention, because it does not look as a phone and not everyone understand what it is and how to use it. The mifi also helps me in all (legitimate) situations when, for example, I sit at a cafe with my laptop and phone, I want to be online, and I am not sure if the local wifi is working, how well is working for me, etc.
In my experience, getting that mifi years ago from my employer was a milestone. I cannot stay without that, anywhere I travel in the world. And I never remove my SIM from my phone. I love this, as whenever I change a SIM I am always afraid to damage in any way the subtle delicate mechanism.

Woke up this morning and after breakfast decided to hit the playground, aka ground zero, Calle / Carrea 52, Veracruz Area and showed up at 10 AM. I think it cost 5 mil for the SIM. I bought a data and voice plan for another 20 mil. I used it on a cheap phone from the US. It lasted for the 10 I was there. Every time I went back I would add another 20 mil on the number from the Gana store, and that lasts for the trip. Not sure what the complication with it is.

Here's my plan. I'll travel with my main phone and cheap back up costing around 70 euro.
When mongering in the streets, collecting numbers, using love motels my back up phone comes with me and my main phone stays at my accommodation.
For my back up phone I'll have a local sim and plan and register the phone if need be. I'll also have what's app on it and use maps etc.
Whilst at the Airbnb I'll use my main phone on WiFi to keep in touch with friends family or do my emailing or whatever. If I go on a tour I'll also take it with me to take pictures.
If I need Internet on my main phone outside of the Airbnb I'll use the hot-spot on the back up phone.

Case in point, I have a Colombian cell phone that I registered with Claro four years ago. I lost the phone I had a few times, albeit it was a burner phone and got the same number back after paying like a 3 K fee. Now to the good part, I left Colombia in March and just returned last Saturday, while I was gone, every couple of months while in the USA I would recharge it with about $ 3 USD to maintain it as I believe any phone number in Colombia with no activity for six months is terminated. So upon arriving I fired my Colombian cell up and there were messages showing all my past recharges and a new expiration date of my saldo sometime in January. So one phone, same SIM card should work as long as the phone is registered as you mention.
I have been in El Centro (Veracruz / Botero) area four times since Saturday afternoon, and the following are my observations / thoughts on the current situation.
1. There appears to be more girls working than before the Pandemic and at discounted pricing.
2. The girls are more aggressive in looking for clients than before the Pandemic.
3. There appears to be more younger looking girls working than before the Pandemic.
4. There appears to be more men hanging around than before, not clients, but I suspect boyfriends of the girls working and / or thieves looking for targets.

Any luck with SA girls in Medellin? What are the current TLN or PPM rates? I don't want to overpay and at the same time offend anyone with low ball offers. What worked very well in CDMX was the following: when a girl asked how much I offer per date, I usually gave her a range, 2200 to 3500 MXN ($100 to $150) depending on her looks and performance and then paid her accordingly after the date was over. I have found some very interesting buildings in Medellin but one of the main beauties of the city for me is the way the sides of the mountains are lit up at night. I have been in El Centro (Veracruz / Botero) area four times since Saturday afternoon, and the following are my observations / thoughts on the current situation.

My only advice would of been to de-fuse the situation before the cops were called, but without Spanish speaking skills, I can see how it would of been difficult. Hi, can you please confirm if you've been able to take chicas back to your apartment as the San Peter building has been recommended a number of times as been chica friendly.I brought 2 girls the first day and 3 girls today with no problems at all. They will check Cedulas. I don't recommend using the Hotels on the backside of the Church, that's where a lot of the girls work out of, so that should explain why you shouldn't use them.

And if so did they want you to report everyone you hanged out with every day? From what I am reading its just a entry form you have to fill out 24 hours before entry. Also what do you think about traveling for three weeks in December I am concerned they might close the borders down and I can't return state side until it reopens.
