I love san peter for all the convenience and safety. I have been looking at other options in the area just for a bit more space and quietness. A lot of airbnbs in the area indicate 'no parties, hookers' etc. Some are silent as to being guest friendly. Any suggestions that you guys have already experienced and offer better space? Or to even insinuate el Centro is just as safe or safer. El Centro is not for everyone. It takes a certain type of monger to enjoy that style

Even the girls at Gustos and Lleras park is low, most are unattractive, a few are cute, but at max I see 3-4 girls a night where I'm like wow. At Gustos last night I saw maybe one girl and a backup that I might consider taking home, but they were both busy with other clients. At Lleras park bar, there was 1 but again busy. Like knowledge says, there's all kinds of gringos. I've never had a problem, I look ethnic, but born in the states. At night after 8 pm I stay away as all the junkies get rabid for their fix, but during the day it's not too bad if you're used to ethnic parts of big cities like LA or NYC.
Best bet is to walk around and see for yourself if you feel comfortable. If not, just stick to the casas.

Have you been to la 33? If so, would you recommend that area?I do not have any direct experience with La 33 but I have researched it a little and other BMs have commented about it before. It obviously depends on what you are going for. La 33 is not a place to go looking for prostitutes for sure. It is probably not even a gringo would go hoping to pick up a non-pro because the culture is different in Colombia and the girls go out to hang out with their friends and not meet guys, the meeting of girls and guys is done in a different way there, usually through friends etc, though I am sure that there are also more spontaneous ways like getting a girls number you see at the gym or the mall etc. But in general they do not go out to the restaurants and clubs to meet guys.
La 33 , like La 70 is a place where locals go to dine, drink and dance. With a spattering of a few tourist who want to get a true local vibe. It is a good place to see plenty of eye candy but unless you are at least conversational in Spanish you are not going to mix in very well. La 33 nor La 70 are as gritty as El Centro but then again no place in Medellin is guaranteed to be safe, those assholes that ride around in pairs on motorcycles and one jumps off the back with a gun or knife and robs you have been reported in every neighborhood. This is not terribly often but it gets reported in every neighborhood. One suggestion I have read on here that makes the best sense to me is to carry a dummy phone (an old phone that does not have to work) and a dummy wallet with like 100 k and some bullshit business cards in it. These guys seem to hit fast and then try to flee the scene quickly so they are not going to check the function of the phone etc.

They can be problematic at times in regards to maintenance issues associated with their Units but they are the biggest player in town and have hundreds of apartments listed and typically all of their apartments are listed on Airbnb, but if you rent directly thru them the rate will be lower because Airbnb has hefty fees to use their platform.
Additionally, for a 2 to 3 month duration you can negotiate with them. In other words, if the rental is listed at say $ 800 a month you would offer something less. If your looking in the Laureles area your price range is doable, but for a two bedroom in Poblado it will be harder to find. Also be careful upon choosing the apartment. One thing guys find out upon renting is there is a lot of noise assocaied with the Units, this can be a problem as very few properties have dual pane windows unless they have been retrofitted. So this is a question to ask as having an apartment facing a busy street will not be quiet. Another issue is Air Conditioning, and if you rent a west facing unit in an apartment on an upper floor it may be very hot in the afternoons so it's another thing to consider.

Appliances are often NOT provided and you will almost always need to buy a refrigerator. Furniture prices are cheap if you shop around. I plan to order on line and have everything delivered. Appliance prices have been coming down but used to be priced higher than in the USA. There is a Colombian manufactured brand called Haceb for fridges that I will probably buy, they are the cheapest and quality is comparable to the average fridge in the USA. You can get a nice apartment and lifestyle with a million dollar view for half of everything I just wrote if you are willing to live on the side of a mountain with public transport access by modern overhead cable car.

As far as bringing any money into the Country, you need to engage a Colombian attorney to correctly register the monies coming into the Country, if not, it will be very difficult to get your money out of the Country. You said you hadn't plan to retire just yet, but if you work remotely, and are in Colombia more than six months a year, your considered a tax resident and must file just like a citizen. As far as buying property in Medellin, it's like the wild west with no "exclusive listings", there will be multiple agents representing sellers and different prices posted and they don't have Escrow companies, and the due diligence is performed by attorneys, and lots of gringo's get burned. So my general advice to you is as follows: Find a top notch Colombian attorney after you have done your research. But this will be a challenge because to become an attorney in Medellin you only need a degree, and there's no bar or exam to license someone as an attorney, so most of them are not competent and may be dishonest. $67 k usd for a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom in Sabaneta, it's the cheapest apartment on the site and I'm pretty sure that's a website with gringo pricing + the complex includes a gym, pool, basketball court and playground for children. You probably could get apartments for $40-60 k usd if you got quoted the same rates as the locals. Latin America along with Asia has some of the best housing prices in the world.

As well as that KLM one of the few airlines going to Colombia transit through Amsterdam where 2 tests are required, even just for a 1 hour layover. A 72 hour test and a rapid test 4 hours before. If you return to the UK from a red list country which Colombia is on, the there is mandatory hotel quarantine costing 1750 pounds, others are also pushing this through now.
Thats why I'm booking a one way ticket and staying for a few months because anything less is just not worth the headache.
So I don't think you have to worry about El Centro becoming a more accessible mongering destination any time soon because only the very determined will make it from Europe and from that small trickle only an even smaller amount will be brave enough to monger in El Centro.

In Centro the locals appear to hate the police. When the police make an arrest the locals surround them and record everything the police do (not the person being arrested). Even getting up into the police's faces. But I do not really remember that happening when there is a fight or something that happens between locals. There was a foreigner who started recording two locals fighting which is stupid in itself to have a phone out in a large group of 30+. During or after the fight the locals turned on him for making a recording. Locals surrounded him yelling and he nearly got into a fight but slipped away. As any of you know from reading my posts, I like to explore the barrios to some extent. Manrique, Aranjuez, Laureles, etc. But one place I usually do not go is Bello, let alone live there. I would only recommend someone with a lot of experience in Colombia as well as someone willing to take some risk and do homework on the neighborhoods. On and off for the past several years, parts of Bello have been very "hot" (meaning gangs, guns, drugs), with lots of flare-ups. I know some girls well who are from Bello and tell me to avoid, especially places like Paris. That said, there are rewards if you feel you can tolerate the risk. Back in the days when the Mansion had hot chicas, most of them seemed to be from Bello. And you can find very inexpensive rents in Bello. Also be sure you don't look like a fool in front of the locals. Bello is NOT part of Medellin. It is it's own separate city.

Depends on where and for what. Certainly you can find places that are cheap. They may or may not be in the best barrio or the best building. My advice is to avoid buildings that have mostly 3 or 4 bedroom places. What you'll likely get are placed where four chicos or chicas have rent the rooms in the place. Or where a large family. There may or may not be the type of people you want to live near. Certainly, Colombians can be super noisy. You pay for exclusivity and porteros and quiet (that said, even buildings like Blux can be very noisy). That said, you can get some nice places in Sabaneta and Itagui for a decent price with less likelihood of living with folks who are not similar to attitude or behavior.
On the other hand, take a look at the ridiculous selling prices in Poblado or even parts of Laureles. Over-valued IMO. Agree that you need to find someone to represent you who hides your "gringo" identity. So you don't get screwed on price.

In the USA you can come and go as you please, and Medellin is easily accessible from the USA with no quarantine requirements and only a PCR test for entry, and the majority of mongers do come from the USA versus Europe. If I had to guess I would say no more than 10%-15% of the foreign mongers in Medellin come from another Country besides the USA.
I am of the belief that at this moment, Medellin for those who can get here, is probably the best mongering destination available on the planet right now. With Asia basically shuddered because of the quarantine requirements, where else can you go with so many mongering venues and options available, basically Medellin is wide open right now with no lockdowns albeit with some very limited nighttime curfew restrictions. And it's a total buyers market. So based on this, more and more guys are looking and coming to Medellin as evidenced by all the newcomers and their posts, albeit a lot of guys are also staying on the sidelines because of the Pandemic, and rightly so.
So in your case, your smart to come and stay a while having to go thru so much hassle to get to Medellin.
My only advice to you is to confirm that the airline your flying on will allow you to fly with only purchasing a one way ticket. I know for a fact in the USA from which I fly they confirm at least on COPA and Jetblue that you have a return ticket or that you have residency.

I marked his first path in purple color as he comes off of Calle 51 and turns and walks down Carrera 53 then crosses the street and doubles back on the other side of street for that same block, then he turns down Calle 51 opposite side where he started to go down beside Veracruz Church, turns in front of the church and on up to Botero Plaza and marked start with an 'X', then he completes that walk right next to the cultural center where the metro line runs next to it. This is at the 6:05 mark and restarts as he approaches the Raudal corner which I have marked in light blue, he turns right down Carrera 54 and walks a ways then cuts the video again. At 7:05 he restarts the last little section in front of the museum on Botero Plaza, a path that I marked in red and he turns beside the museum down Calle 52 and turns left on Carrera 53 and almost to Calle 51 from where he started.

Thanks for the general advice. I'm not buying to invest, but to eventually live in Medellin. I don't think I'll need a lawyer since I do have some trustworthy paisa friends who live in Bello who can guide me on the ground when I return in a few months. I carry 2 passports (Panama & USA), so I can theoretically live all year in Colombia by maxing the 180 days on both passports. I would have to leave country 1-2 twice a year, which I plan to do anyways once I'm settled in Medellin full time. Those that asked why I'm buying if I'm not living there yet, why not! I have a network of good pros and non pros and I can look into renting it out. But I don't need the rental income, so I can keep the apt empty if I want to or maybe even let a non pro I've known for years stay on the free just to take care of it.
And I'm not even looking at gringo areas like Poblado or Laureles. Obrero / Niquia / Cabanas are the top 3 barrios on my list in Bello. Hot chicks just everywhere, even after all these years in MDE, girls in Bello just on a different level. Sabaneta in the south is also on my list. It's a nice and chill town and close to Envigado / Poblado as well. So it's either up north or down south for me.

My girl quickly made me aware that she was afraid and did not know how much the Vacuna would be, especially being in a relationship with a Gringo. So good luck on obtaining property in Colombia. I took an Antigen test within 3 days of my departure flight. It was 110 mil plus 13 mil for domicilio. A guy came to my apt at a predetermined time and swapped my nose and I got results within 6 hours and they guarantee results within 24 hours. Entering USA was easy, just make sure to have digital copy of test results as they check at Colombia airport and at any international transit stop. Never seen an almost empty customs/immigration line when I transited through Houston (btw wish all the Texans the best).

However as "trust worthy" as you think your Paisa friends might be, you really should have a Colombian lawyer who handles real estate transactions to guide you as it is not a straightforward process for a foreigner versus a citizen buying real estate, and you could be in for some very unpleasant surprises. As far as your motivation to live in Medellin full time, totally enviable as I mentioned and hat's off to you in preparing to do so.

Not many guys report much about Bello, maybe you can make a more detailed report about it for us, are you able to blend in like a local? Did you always feel like there was not going to be any trouble? I have seen some Youtube videos of an area in Bello near Madera Station looks like it is called San Jose or La Florida on Google maps and that area where the guy was partying was crawling with gorgeous babes, it actually put Lleras Park to shame in that area, but of course very much a local vibe and not sure if any were pros who would go home with a Gringo. The guy that made the videos was dark haired and fairly dark complexion so he probably blended in okay at a glance.

I am probably in a similar boat. Other than during shut-down, I travel to Medellin once a month. This June I'll pass the entire month there. If I can find a reasonably priced place that is in a safe place and the building has a pool, it might just buy, not relying on any rental income. If you want to rent to others, then you often end up buying in the popular places and playing the inflated prices (even though you do get a rental return). Not sure I really want other people living in my place.

What you have described is a real "eye opener" as to how tough it is for guys in Europe who want to travel. In the USA you can come and go as you please, and Medellin is easily accessible from the USA with no quarantine requirements and only a PCR test for entry, and the majority of mongers do come from the USA versus Europe. If I had to guess I would say no more than 10%-15% of the foreign mongers in Medellin come from another Country besides the USA.
I am of the belief that at this moment, Medellin for those who can get here, is probably the best mongering destination available on the planet right now. With Asia basically shuddered because of the quarantine requirements, where else can you go with so many mongering venues and options available, basically Medellin is wide open right now with no lockdowns albeit with some very limited nighttime curfew restrictions. And it's a total buyers market. So based on this, more and more guys are looking and coming to Medellin as evidenced by all the newcomers and their posts, albeit a lot of guys are also staying on the sidelines because of the Pandemic, and rightly so.
So in your case, your smart to come and stay a while having to go thru so much hassle to get to Medellin.
My only advice to you is to confirm that the airline your flying on will allow you to fly with only purchasing a one way ticket. I know for a fact in the USA from which I fly they confirm at least on COPA and Jetblue that you have a return ticket or that you have residency.Thanks for the advice on the one way ticket. I think with the US version of Expedia a number of tickets can be refunded within 24 hours as well as number of sites that provide confirmed bookings for a small fee so I'll have them on standby just in case.

I live in the SF Bay Area, so housing costs here are off the roof. But I can do the reverse and rent my place out in the Bay and move my ass to Medellin. This pandemic is giving me life changing options haha. I'm single, no kids, good shape and healthy minus all the partying / drinking / white-pink powder consumption haha. Let's see how 2021 turns out for me. Similarly, I’m looking at a 2 or 3 bed with 2 bath apt in a fairly new building or one that is being constructed, with a pool and gym and hopefully hot neighbors haha.

Yeah, ideally the apt would be brand new in a building that is under construction somewhere 'relatively safe' in Bello, so no worries about previous owners or problems with a clean property title. If that happens, I'm def not renting it out to anyone unless it's family or close friends. At Davienda. The Customer service dude was nice enough but he obviously did not know the system because we went through a 30 minute process and then at the end he told me I needed a cedula (government ID). Getting a cedula is an entirely different process that is not available to foreigners on a tourist visa so I won't go into that now. I also tried to add my name to my novia's bank account and that was also not allowed. Ostee out.The only bank I know of in Colombia which will let you open an account without a cedula is Bancolombia.
