Blackceo, I wouldn't worry too much about which is better. Just go to both because the dollar is about to be worthless. 2) Budget deficit is only one of many factors influencing the exchange rates. Trade deficits, interest rates and others influence the exchange rates.
3) Not a single individual, Obama or bernanke, can substantially influence the exchange rates.

I spent 6 months in Cali in 2009 and loved every minute. I paid a quick visit to Medellin during that time, and liked what I saw. But, the reports, and many friends, told me I had to invest some serious time in Medellin, because I was missing the boat. BIG TIME. Just got back from a 90 day visit.
The women, Paisas, are DAMN BEAUTIFUL. And there are a ton of them. Actually, I think 70% of the women in the city would respond positively to a solicitation even in church. PERO, son incompledos, insinceras, why interesas. Besides, the place has turned into a factory, especially in El Poblado. If you are a gingo in El Poblado, it is 100% assumed you are a monger. The poor girls form the mountains know it, the upper class in Medelliln assume it, the police too. So, you are walking around with a bullseye on your back. Be aware.

I've wanted to travel to Colombia for years now. This post helped me decide to go to Medellin if I get to go there at all. I've been to Brazil on many trips, but want to explore other parts of SA. The only impediment I have now is terminal cancer, but I keep hoping the experimental targeted drug I'm taking will make me well enough for one last mongering voyage. While I cannot speak for the most recent grammar cadet's linguistic ability, I have noticed that those most likely to correct the spelling of Colombia (u for o), are those who would not know the difference between preterito and imperfecto to save their lives, and who insist that "nobody has to use the subjunctive, shit, my hooker does not even know what that means." I mean, if you are anywhere short of fluent, you have no reason to correct anyone's Spanish, and for those of us who are fluent (or are close), you really don't care to correct such a minor mistake when you hear the language being fucked up so often.....
They told me about the 10k fee after. Also that 100k at Abydos is for a half hour.
There is no excuse for the "llookie lou" fee. It's only going to drive away customers. I expect it will be enforced selectively.
My opinion is if you go to a place like Loutron you have to take your lumps and not complain about cost. Again, only my opinion but I don't see 65, 000 to 70, 000 pesos difference between girls at Loutron or the Centro casas. No question there is more of a difference between Loutron's building, bar, and surroundings and a Centro casa setup but I am a pragmatist about this sort of thing. I don't go to these places for posh surroundings. If having a go at a Centro casa offends the sensibility then go have a drink at a high end hotel afterwards and enjoy the overstuffed chairs. Just my opinion.

Cab drivers if they have a meter I round up their fare to an even peso amount. Doormen if they give me a heads up on a certain girl in a strip club then they get 2 K. Waiters get a small tip if they are honest with my bill.

Prelude:
My friend from Vegas who we call $40Jeff, who comes to Costa Rica several times a year to monger, asked me via email to take him to either Havana, Panama, or Medellin for his next trip down. I was there when this occurred. Nothing against VIP, but if you're staying there, why not hang out with the old timers at VIP?
CB is first and foremost a hotel. Their interest is filling the rooms, not entertaining guests of other hotels. Especially when they go to pain staking measures to create a unique environment that sets them apart from their competitors. When they get a guy who shows up and says "I didn't want to stay here, but I do want to enjoy all the things you do for your guests". In those words or not, it comes across as a douche-bag move.
What kills me is, Boyd tells me this shit happens all the time. Guys staying in apartments and other hotels stop by to "hang out". Then get offended when told they can't. If I'm Boyd and I have empty rooms, you come over wanting to hang out, I put you in touch with reservations.
Maybe the Mansion should charge a cover charge for non-guests. Say. 100k a head.

So my question is this, are you fellas that naive to believe anything someone says just like that? Didn't we just have a long discussion of Colombians and Tall Tales elsewhere in this Forum? I am not sure, but my suggestion would be to read between the lines. I would, IMHO, trust, but verify anything anyone tells me, especially if it indeed applies to Colombia and not reported by any official type agency, you know, the State Department, Police botter in that country, a travel warning from any country's embassy, something "Official". Otherwise, take the information with a grain of salt and don't alter plans because of one piece of second-hand rumor.

FARC) , drug / prostitution related cartels, right-wing paramilitaries / militias, and government / military. Government is in wars with guerriras and drug cartels. Paramilitaries are in war wth guerriras. Gov. Military has tacitly supported paramilitary. Some of the paramilitaries are against drug cartels. However, many gov. Officials are receiving money from cartels. There are nuanced relationships, if not clear alliance, between cartels and left-wing guerriras. Some cartels give money to guerriras for transportation and other helps for drug trafficking. Again, the reality must be more complex.

My knowledge of the inner-workings and history of Medellin is sparse, but if you told me that I had to guess which group is more prevalent in Medellin between the FARC and the right-wing paramilitaries, I would say it ain't close, the paramilitaries. Also from what little I know of Medellin, I would think that there's a much, much greater chance of running into a member of a street gang than there is running into a member / supporter of FARC.
Let's see, with both Escobar (didn't he help form paramilitaries) and Uribe being from Medellin, would seem to make sense to me.

For example, we can compare / contrast the murder rate in 1999 to 1993; the violence / power stuggle between left-wing FARC and the drug gangs supported by the right-wing paramilitaries; the election of Uribe and the increased military presence; the de-mobilization of the former paramilitaries (and whether they were really AUC who handed in weapons) ; the decline in the murder rate from 2002 until around 2007-2008; the upswing; AUC; Don Berna; the "cleansing" leaflets; the Águilas Negras; organized gangs; etc, etc.

I ussually get a lot of Oriental North Americans at My Place, but lately they've been pouring in almost exclusively. 4 straight in a row. They must have liked something in La Mayorista. I see these guys get killed every year. I have even fought them personally as I reported in one of my posts. You want me to introduce you to some of them? I live in Envigado where "La Oficina" has it's headquarters. Of course I know there is drug mafia in Medellin, but nothing like before and far removed from La FARC, more independant. There are a whole bunch of different groups fighting for turf and they are not receiving their orders from FARC. They might get their drugs from FARC like most of the World does, but FARC does not have near the control anywhere that they had before.
And as far as the Fase ll guy getting shot, I went there that night and it was the first time on a Saturday night that it was closed. I was immediately told that he was shot for not paying a "vacuna". There are people all over Medellin collecting "vacunas" from taxi drivers, truck drivers, even homeowners in the very low "barrios". Most of the time they are just local thugs and not necessarily linked to FARC. Anybody that knows anybody that sells drugs claims to be a protector or involved to scare people off. I dealt with one of those in Envigado who dared to come near my property in Envigado while I was having a Bar B-Q with my girlfriend and family. He used to know my girlfriend and tried to talk to her I jumped on him ready to kick his ass quicker than he could blink. My brother in laws stopped me and her family started trying to scare me with the usual B. S. I asked for his number and called him directly at his house and told him he better stay away and at the end he ended appologizing. No where to be seen again.
What, you don't think they charge "vacunas" in La Mayorista? They charge them even from the cigarrette sellers. 5,000 pesos a week and 10, 000 from the girls. But they are just the local dealers who get killed every year and is an off and on thing. The lady owner from the liquor store under My Place has never payed. When I was in Mayo last December, one of the big guys there was shot and killed just a few minutes after he shook hand with me. My "guess" was that this local gang is paying to, thereby protected by, a much bigger cartel, which has a strong connection to the local government, because the police and the gang co-habit in Mayo and the former does not arrest or monitor the latter. Inversely put, if an "independent" street gang innitiates business somewhere, probably big cartels would demand protection fee to them. If they do not pay, they would be arrested by police, who is paid by the cartel. As you say, I do not think FARC is involved in prostitution/gang business in Medellin. But this is just my guess. I have talked to quite a few SW's in that area over the years, and have heard all kinds of troubles and problems they have. Should be ready by Colombiamoda and the Flower Festival.
He had to downsize the construction due to city laws but hey, thats life, doing it on a lot smaller scale.
Mostly just catering for our own guests at this stage and who ever MB, BBB and A.G. want to invite.

First off, I don't think regular girls there are the greatest bet, maybe some little jovencitas but overall the P4P scene in MDE is better than the "freebie" scene. This is not true, in my opinion, in several areas of Colombia, however the values are good in MDE.
I'll start off at the high end. Leutron and Fase Dos are the most expensive / notorious. Leutron does have legitimately SMOKIN girls, service is typically mechanical and price is high though. You cannot top the environment though and the peripheral services (massage and what not) are pretty good. Fase Dos, meh, I did pull a WONDERFUL girl out of there that I actually wound up taking on a trip with me. She is now married and out of the game, we talk occasionally, otherwise I'd gladly provide info. There are a couple legit performers in there and, in the case of the two girls I went with, the service was incredible. That said, overall it's overpriced, mechanical, overrated and not a place I think anyone would frequent unless they were trying more to flaunt their money than get some good action.

I have spent several months in MDE and will share my input on what I think are good spots to hit and good approaches to try.
First off, I don't think regular girls there are the greatest bet, maybe some little jovencitas but overall the P4P scene in MDE is better than the "freebie" scene. This is not true, in my opinion, in several areas of Colombia, however the values are good in MDE.
I'll start off at the high end. Leutron and Fase Dos are the most expensive / notorious. Leutron does have legitimately SMOKIN girls, service is typically mechanical and price is high though. You cannot top the environment though and the peripheral services (massage and what not) are pretty good. Fase Dos, meh, I did pull a WONDERFUL girl out of there that I actually wound up taking on a trip with me. She is now married and out of the game, we talk occasionally, otherwise I'd gladly provide info. There are a couple legit performers in there and, in the case of the two girls I went with, the service was incredible. That said, overall it's overpriced, mechanical, overrated and not a place I think anyone would frequent unless they were trying more to flaunt their money than get some good action.
The best place in that price range I could recommend is Universitarias. The girls are lovely, all 19-21, beautiful, clean, well-maintained, limited plastic parts and, from my experience, they are well-rounded performers who are pretty warm, especially on return visits. The owner is a very nice older woman who makes you feel quite comfortable. The price was $150K pesos for 90 minutes, no pressure to pick, free drinks and nice facilities like Turkish bath, Sauna, etc. I really enjoy this place and it's rather low key.
Going down to the 100K peso range, well you can hit up that janky row of strip joints and sift through some junk to land a diamond in the rough for 100K all night. Have had some good experiences there, have also had some duds. Get yourself a young one out of there and be fun. If you're not comfortable in a situation surrounded by locals, be sure to bring a friend or two, it is a little more rough area / atmosphere than some places but not terrible.
There are a couple of MPs in that range as well. Blue Room keeps changing owners, it's lost a couple of its best girls. Energy is owned by some of its former owners, it's down by the Nacional stadium, it's around 100K and I like it. Nice atmosphere and a couple of great girl there, go and try them on for size. I would recommend that place.
Moving down to the 30-70K price range, I'd recommend Aiffe and New Life. There is one near New Life as well, the name of which escapes me but ALL the girls are high school seniors. It was like Beverly Hills 9021-HO! It was too bad I'd discovered after I had a girlfriend there and in Cartagena only went a couple times but it had stunning young girls although most of their service required you to REALLY take charge, kind of lost. Aiffe you can go bareback for a tip if you do not appear absolutely repugnant and / or filthy, tip is reasonable. Like a lot of MPs, the girls are kind of run through as the day progresses, which you can really feel bareback hahaha. New Life is a mixed bag, maybe the most beautiful girl I've ever been with was there though, went regularly until she quit (short career there, maybe two months). Those are all great values, $10-$50 depending on time and what you're after.
If you're dying for something cheaper, the Mayorista has girls for 25K and sometimes less. There are some decent ones there, I more scoped it out than participated as a I stayed in an apartment very near there. I don't know that I'd recommend street action in MDE but there is plenty to be had, safest action and biggest variety is there.

Wilson's "Del Tio" restaurant was taken over by el "mono", the blonde guy that owns the 2 restaurants at the end of the strip. Since he already has the other two paisa food restaurants he decided to open an all Seafood and roast chicken restaurant. The menu is very clear with pictures, and you wil find deep fried fish, shrimp, clams, etc. It's a little more costly, but still reasonable. Hope you enjoy!

Anyways, I put it out of my mind and off I went for my trip. On this trip I ran into another girl who asked me if I knew XXXXX XXXXXX and again I said No I didn't but I relayed the prior girls story. Once was strange, but I was willing to believe that twice was just a coincidence.
Then once again, I got a message from a facebook amiga asking me, wait for it, still waiting? Do I know XXXXX XXXXXX? And so I decided to act.
I have confirmed the bogus bill story and I've been able to confirm his identity. I can't stress how dumb it is to be peddling fake bills in Medellin, and while I would prefer to wait for him to qualify for his Darwin award, the fact he's dropped my name 3 times is a little disturbing.
I will likely start threads on CRT, Hombre and ISG in hopes that this inbred moron is a member of one site, if not all 3. If this is you, give your head a shake. The monger community is still small enough and my network deep enough that I can spread the word quickly.
But for now, I'll give you the option of stop using my name and stop passing bad bills.

I recommend that you negotiate. You better negotiate on price and terms not for saving dimes but for convincing the girls that you are not those stupid guys they can rip off. If you immediately say yes to everything girls offer, 1)the girls may regret that they had not offered higher price and start charging for bunch of things in the bed and rip you off, 2)the girls may think that you are naive, 3) or both. Just a clarification- you could ""accept"" or reject the final or initial offers eventually. If you and the girls spend a time for negotiating price, the girls will feel that they "won" the negotiation and are more likely to be content with the agreed price and term. Negotiating will protect you from potential rip offs. Have fun!!

Michael, IMO, can be described in one word. Unpredictable. I was there beginning at the end of June until the second week of July and I tell you, for some reason, it rained quite a bit. It's supposed to be in verano. Less rain than any other time I agreed but it still rained and a few days, it rained heavily. Not for too long but it did delay your mongering plan. I was in Mayo one night and it rained from 8PM until well past midnight. Some Colombianos jokingly told me that it rains because all the chicas cry whenever I come. I'd think otherwise. LOL.
By the way, I had a session with a newbie, Carolina, from Rionegro, or at least I think she is. Wonder if any of you did before. Good service, highly recommended but won't repeat. She has braces. Was told she's 19.

In my many years coming here I don't remember it like this. Many of the locals tell that its quite strange and haven't experienced weather patterns like this in many years. I know near Bogota and towards the coast they had whole towns under water.

OK, so been reading up on Medellin and folks like Mat Pysche, John Gault, Reefski (to name a few and sorry if I missed any other long time Mongers) and now I am finally here! On day 2 and love this country! Last night was pretty quite but ended up in La Strada area and then took cute 19 year old Paisa named Carolina home from Luna Lunerap Strip club. It was 100K to club and 170k to her, but she came back to apartment (we rented really beautiful Penthouse top two floors. 3,500 sq ft. $250 a night. Four guys) in great area. She stayed for two hours and we had a good time. Did not rush me, took shower together, hot tub in room and was very accomodating. Gave her nice Victoria Secret underwear as propino and she was happy. She has already text me today.

It was spot on. New Life was just a blue door with no signage. You had to know the address. Many of the central casas are like that. Read up on th forums as anything can change by October but believe Matt's map / info is from 1/2011 and his intel is still great.

Some devices don't need a data network connection to show your position on a built in gps map map but you need the connection to use a google map.
I once saw a guy with a laminated and folded map walking around the centro looking for casas. It's OK to do I think but I recommend you stay aware of your surroundings to avoid problems.

OK, so been reading up on Medellin and folks like Mat Pysche, John Gault, Reefski (to name a few and sorry if I missed any other long time Mongers) and now I am finally here! On day 2 and love this country! Last night was pretty quite but ended up in La Strada area and then took cute 19 year old Paisa named Carolina home from Luna Lunerap Strip club. So, half way through trip and 2 of the 4 in our group left this morning for home. Blew it out last night as it was best friends birthday and their last night. But lets back up to Friday night (our 2nd night here). We ended up going to the San Diego Strip Club / Show and I said I was not going to take a girl. That did not work out. It clearly is not your preferred / normal price but that is what they paid. I agree with you, I would normally not pay that much either but I would be lying if I said I have never paid more than what I pay now after visiting almost 20 times. Hell, I would be lying if I said I didn't pay a little more then my "normal" when I was there a few months ago but I paid it because it made the event what I wanted it to be. We all have a comfort level of spending or doing things but it is relative to the person writing the report. I have seen reports here and thought "wow, that was way too much" or "I would have never did that" or even "they don't know what the f_ck they are talking about" but I refrain from commenting because I can't make them do what I do or have my same experience. I also refrain because I don't post much and in this type of forum that matters even if you have a point. Some of these trip reports or even future trip reports have guys making excuses or explaining things they did or won't do to keep others from posting a negative remark. Trip reports should be written and viewed with the idea that one's own experience may be very different and they are very subjective. Hopefully the knowledge from your comment that someone is getting the same thing for less will give him one more card to play if he chooses to in his future negotiations.

Thanks.The fake Colombian bills I have been passed have all been printed on a cheaper quality paper that is easily distinguishable by feeling it. Check for a good clear watermark. Check for deep rich colors and textures on the actual bill and last but not least, look for the shiny silver stripes on the back that cannot be copied. Fake bills are usually passed to the victim as change from a taxi or small store or more at a club or disco when your tipsy, dark and your guard is lowered. Sometimes / most of the time they themselves have had the bills passed on to them and are trying to get rid of them themselves.
I only had it happen to me once a few years ago. Got it right out of the ATM attached to the bank down the street from CB1. Found out from a cab driver when I was paying my fare later that same day. Funny thing was that the girl I was with and I both felt HE was trying to give ME some fake bills. I picked up on it and just kept using the 20's I got that morning from the ATM since that was all I had at the time. Staff at CB1 were impressed at the quality as were the people at the bank. They would not exchange it for another 20 note even though I told them it was from their ATM. In so many words the bank manager told me to just use it because it would most likely pass. I of course did not do that and still have the note. The cab driver and the bank staff showed me the minute flaw in the copy but very few people had I ever seen check that aspect of the note. Since then I have seen people check by folding the note in half and rubbing it together listening for the slightly raised edges of one of the designs to make a noise. Maybe some other guys have had issues with other notes but mine was only with a 20. I use the ATM method for getting money every time I visit and have not had a problem since.

DPI'm not so sure it was from the ATM. The banks fill the ATM. I would think that they would check the bills before they put money back into circulation. If you can't trust the bank, then the whole banking system is destroyed. Since you used it later in the day, are you sure you didn't have money from before in your pockets? Did you buy anything and get some change? Are you sure you didn't look away for a split second and the taxista changed it on you? I've got a fake bill from a taxista once. So shady. Don't ever give them big bills (larger than 20). They all claim they don't have change.
But that was not the case at all. The taxista was trying to scam me that is for sure though. The girl I was with and I both caught on to that. He tried to be slick and charge me for a few wrong turns he made when I gave him exact and simple directions. I knew the cost from A to B was going to be just under 20. I had money from a previous trip that I used that day but the money from the ATM I put in my money holder around my neck completely apart from my money for that day. I only reached in that stash to get a 20 out. I agree the ATM is stocked by the bank and figured that may work for or against me when I went in to complain but took my chances. It is a very good fake. It took a bit of scrutiny by the bank rep and then the manager as they did not dismiss me right away. Some people looked at it and told me it was legit but I did not want to chance it after the bank told me it was fake. Your questions are the same I would ask too but the bill did come from the ATM.

Wow 350K TLN? That's Cartagena prices, not mde, and 150K for a girl in san diego? Last time I was there I didn't see anyone over 100K, all would settle for 80K, some for 60K. Prices are going up as the exchange rate is going down? This may be bad news, but hopefully you just either had incredible chicas or overpaid.

Excellent point about bar fines / exit fees, now and then you have to do it perhaps but more often than not you can get the girl for the same amount of time during the day for a quarter the price. If the place is asking for 100K peso fee and the girl is asking for 100K peso, she would spend the morning / afternoon with you for 50K. Gents, any suggestions for avoiding / detecting counterfeit pesos? Thanks.Always carry and pay with small bills so that you are never in a situation to get a lot of change back. Waitresses often conveniently forget to bring your change back as well when you break large bills at the bar. If your ATM gives you large bills break them at a reputable establishment, a bank obviously being the best option.

I've never seen a mayo girl asking more than 25K for half hour, never done anything there myself but I imagine the extra money could take you very far if you meted it out properly.
Excellent point about bar fines / exit fees, now and then you have to do it perhaps but more often than not you can get the girl for the same amount of time during the day for a quarter the price. If the place is asking for 100K peso fee and the girl is asking for 100K peso, she would spend the morning / afternoon with you for 50K. The numbers are just examples but the proportions ring true at any price.To me it is a special place. I spent 4 out of 7 nights there on my last trip and was never once disappointed. I could always find a chica to my liking. I agree with John Gault and many others that here we have to 'hold the line' (25K / 30 min. 5K propina for something extra) and keep it, or try to keep it the way it is now for many years to come.

I'm not so sure it was from the ATM. The banks fill the ATM. I would think that they would check the bills before they put money back into circulation. If you can't trust the bank, then the whole banking system is destroyed. Since you used it later in the day, are you sure you didn't have money from before in your pockets? Did you buy anything and get some change? Are you sure you didn't look away for a split second and the taxista changed it on you? I've got a fake bill from a taxista once. So shady. Don't ever give them big bills (larger than 20). They all claim they don't have change.Last year, at a hotel in Bogota, I paid for the hotel guest fee with a 50k note. I had just withdrawn it from the ATM a few hours earlier. The two hotel clerks did the usual examination and concluded that it was fake. I explained to them that it couldn't be fake because I just got it from an ATM and both clerks as well as the girl just turned around and looked at me like I had just grown a second head."This is Colombia", they said,"ATM's dispense fake bills all the time." After further, more thorough analysis they finally did conclude it was not fake. But it was certainly my impression that this is not uncommon at all in Colombia.

I have seen a few post lately about 25K being the standard price in Mayorista.
That may be true for Colombian hombres, but it is not the the case for Gringos. Of the countless girls I have delt with in that area, only twice was 25K offered to me. Please check my older posts (some under vics picks) if you question my knowledge of this fabled monger area. If anything 50K is starting to be asked by some of the hotter girls.
You may say why bring up a issue concerning 5K? Well to 99% of the mongers 5K is of no big deal, but to these poor hard woking girls 5K means something to them. So to sum it up while I am a champion concerning keeping inflation from this area, lets not think 25K is the price. Really gentlemen 30K makes most everyone happy.
How sad to have to state after all these years I feel I'm a Champ in a monger area. LOL.
I guess worse things could be on a fellow's tombstone. Yes Virgina, I'm a sick pup.
