Guys. I'm up over $1000 for a roundtrip from HOU to MDE. Does this sound correct? Have you guys ever gotten airfares below $1000?
I'm from Houston and I take AA from IAH to MIA to MDE. I find AA to be cheaper.

I booked my ticket 4 months in advance for my trip in July and it cost me $960. So I guess alittle over $1000 Is about average.
Flying out of IAH is always expensive for what reason I don't know.

First is this doable? Second what should I expect to pay.
Their new method of operation appears to allow only allow one shot on goal regardless of how long you pay to be with the chica. They have been operating like this for a long time and complaints to management fall on deaf ears. I personally wouldn't risk going to the place unless you agree to their practices. You've been warned!

A. G.Well it depends. Yes and no. If you don't speak a lick of Spanish, yes, you'll probably be charged the gringo rate. So in that sense, yes it's a tourist trap. However, if you'll been to other parts of Colombia, you'll have a leg up in negotiations. I've gone to Cartagena with friends that don't speak a word of english. They were consistently charged more than me. However, surprising they were able to manage on their own because there are many more girls that speak English.

Flying out of IAH is always expensive for what reason I don't know.I have flown to MDE at least 5 times in the last year, via IAH, and I have neen a sharp increase in fares over that time. I had alot of miles and a few flight credits I used in creative ways until they ran dry. During that time, the cheapest was $800; the norm was just shy of $1000. Some of this can be attributed to the CO / UA merger, but most I think is the high price of jet fuel and demand for seats. The effects of reduced capacity is starting to drive the seat prices up. As mentioned earlier, I tried many creative miles and paid opportunities. Several times I tried miles from DEN to IAH, but the cost of IAH to MDE was no more than $50 less than DEN-MDE. I do not see the fares dropping until September and at that time they are running just shy of $900 and that was if I were booking today. I can only think what they will be when I go to book a month before departure! The high price of airfare to MDE is starting to price me out of that destination. Just 2 years ago I was buying tickets for an average of $600 one month before travel.

You are just starting to post so I don't know what you like or dislike. If you are going for chicas, go to Cartagena for sure. It is easier, manageable, more choices and depending on the season, may not be that humid.
For chicas, I would say MDE, CTG and BOG in that order. I have not been to Cali, but my sense is that it would come before BOG.

I arrived in Medellin and the weather was perfect. After "Arrivals" I moved through a crowd of taxi signs and family members. I made my way to the second floor of the airport. The exchanged rate was 1750 to the dollar. After exchanging, I went back to the first floor and added minutes to my Colombian mobile and grabbed an empanada.
Tired as an Eskimo in India, I boarded the local mini bus for 7, 500 pesos ($4+) , and 60+ minutes later I'm located in El Central by the Nutibara Hotel and Plaza Botero. If you're a 1st timer, stay at the Mansion. Colombia is the Major Leagues. If you don't know at least intermediate Spanish. You're kind of fucked. Unless you stay at the Mansion, hang with the students (150k negotiable) , and have Fernando (30k hr) take you on disco trips (He's awesome). Listen to me, open up your bank account and leave safely with a smile. (I did before and will again).
I decided to stay in El Central on this particular visit. One, it's conveniently located near all the casas. Secondly, I wanted to mixed it up and try something different. Lastly, I could benefit on savings with taxis (or I thought). A lot of posters state "El Central" as a dangerous location, which I can attest is true at night. However, during the day and afternoon, I felt fine and had no problems. As other posters have written, please use common sense and respect. Medellin is a more reserved and conservative environment. Certain things are left behind closed doors, unlike parts of Asia or the Caribbean.
My thoughts: I checked into Gran Hotel located within a 2 – 6 block radius from all the casas, even the famed 'New Life. ' The Gran Hotel is very large and contains 16 floors. The personnel were very professional, kind, and a few front desk people even spoke English. They charged $60usd per night, which included a hot breakfast, mini bar, solid wifi, and was also chica friendly. If you enjoy casa runs, this hotel is a fantastic alternative. The location is close to Exito super market, several bank atms, pharmacies, and local restaurants. However, there are plenty of cheaper accommodation's located in El Central as well. Gran Hotel is dated. The place has charm though and I felt secure the entire time. Ask for a balcony room with a view of the mountains.
I dropped my luggage and I'm off to New Life. Damn, I'm excited like a Panda Bear in Rome. At 6pm, there were about 12 chicas. Still really good quality. However, I wasn't impressed with the lineup. But wait, I do see a light skinned sexy chica from my last trip. She has 'natural' small C's, slim waist, jet black hair, and the biggest fake ass at New Life. Can you name her. I bet you can. Time for Hooter's in Parque Lleras. It's early in the week and the restaurant was a bit slow. The women are beautiful, amazing, and do a group dance every 25+ mins. The prices are American. Total cost 60k. Damn, where is my empanada.
After the flight, bus, New Life, Casino, and Hooters. I planned for the Mayo. But I crashed and fell asleep.
Part 2: Central casa, Energy, Mall, Mayo, Disco Strip clubs in el central, San Diego Strip Club, and back to the Casino.
Anyone from Toronto interested in joining me? No firm date in October, but am flexible.

I agree with Ricker. The hypocrisy of some forum members is unbelievable. I know Bandy and think that this might have something to do with his background (there are good girls; the kind that you date, and there are bad girls; the kind that you screw), but its still not an excuse for mistreating a girl in this way. Yes, usually SF2, as well as Zandaly, NL and Sexi, has a few doables. The rooms at SF2 are pretty bad as the poster said, but they are not the worst. Probably the rooms at Casa de Fantasia are the worst rooms I have seen, but I like the girls and always have good luck there.

1 I knew personally Walter was a Colombian who lived in NYC and got deported and did the "guide aka pimp, marriage agency, dating service bla bla bla, was killed in front of tienda vieja in front of his 10yr old daughter after dinner. 2 sicarios on a moto. 1 does the dirty work and the other hauls ass driving the moto. Yes, maybe I only saw one side also, but he was always good to me and to my knowledge he was very protective and adored Monica. I'm pretty sure he didn't have any children and I don't recall him saying much about family in New York.

Medellin paisa, a gringo who cracked the paisa code, he was a witty funny mother fucker we spoke many times about life and Medellin. A real jersey guy. Inside he was a good man. I talked to him on facebook and wanted to hire him until his rate went up from 100k to 160k per day for 4 hours, I really didn't think it was worth it. When I refused his services and even offered 100. 000 COP for the time he wasted with me on facebook, he told me that he will put a moto outside my apartment for reasons best known to him. I really thought he was kidding but now I see it might have been different. I feel sorry for the guy and his girlfriend, hope she can bear her loss.

I can't express how shocked and saddened I am by this hideous news. I employed MP's services for two days earlier this month on my first trip to the city of eternal spring, missing the second day due to sheer exhaustion on my part, stemming from the fact that I arrived in Medellin completely exhausted in the first place. The one day I spent with MP, christ, his name was Noah, was an absolute hoot, one of the best days I have ever had while traveling the world. It was a true learning experience, indeed, and the party Noah arranged for me later that night at my apartment was fabulous. He introduced me to one of the hottest and coolest ladies I have ever met, and I ended up "wifing up" with her for the rest of my trip. He deserves a ton of credit for making my first trip to this fabulous city a complete success. I've been a little hesitant writing a trip report because I essentially spent the bulk of my trip somewhat successfully fighting off a cold and wifing up with one lady only. If it weren't for Noah, my vacation might have ultimately turned into a disaster. I'm in very good shape and in very good health, but I hit Medellin completely wiped out and sleep-deprived from trying to get enough stuff done at work to not feel guilty taking over a week off.
Despite how I felt, I did manage to learn the Metro on my own and see some of the city on my own. Nonetheless, I emailed Noah just a few days ago to book his services for three additional days on my return trip in late October. Yes, he definitely impressed me as a "brujo loco" and a gregarious "wild man", but I enjoyed his spirit and enjoyed his company. I am truly bummed!

Many are killed every week in south Florida when they deal in drugs / putas, it also happens in Colombia. Why do men that would never venture into drug / puta areas in the US head to them in Colombia? Ah, denial and excitement, it has gotten some of us into some nasty situations and unfortunately will again. I read about all the "smart" guys in Colombia and how they put down the new guys and am thankful for some true backup in rough times in my life. I do not do well in pissing contests, too old to play that game I guess, sure it is not because I have gotten smarter. I live the drug life before many of today's mongers were born and except for a few beatings and some prison time I was lucky, got out in the early 80's.

With all the killings in the US and mexico over the drug trade, and this drug war that is never ending, what do you think would happen to society if weed, cocaine and ectasy were legalized in the US at every pharmacy in america. Allow the big drug companies to make it and sell it. I am for it, but I had a discussion with this guy who said if we did the whole society would break down and everyone would use. I don't buy it. I don't smoke and rarely drink. Those drugs are legal. Don't you think it would be a net positive. Also, what do you think would happen to the price if it were legal.

1) For price, there will be marginal or no difference since the government will tax drugs to raise the revenue and discourage consumptions.
2) A calculation of net benefit would be impossible. Not sure if the society will be destroyed, but a legalization of drugs will increase the drug users overall excluding you and a similar few. So for the benefit side, there will be increased govtl revenue, more freedom on drugs, increased corporate revenues, and decreased govtl spending for drug enforcement. For cost side, more public / private spending for drug addicts.

Marijuana should be legalized, IMHO, not cocaine, heroin and the "harder" drugs. In the 70's you couldn't miss all the bales being dropped from planes / boats. It became nasty in the late 70's / early 80's when cocaine became the smugglers drug of choice. For me alcohol sucks, it is often courage water, was for me and you see it along with harder drugs destroying too many lives. There are, of course, both sides of the arguement. On some you tend to harm others, some you do not. Drug / alcohol abuse is one of the reasons for being an asshole, not an excuse to be one.
Truth is any jitterbug can buy a gun in the US or Colombia and become a self appointed gangster to take your life, didn't used to be so easy, ala organized crime. Today it is bigger, only it is disorganized crime. And then there are the adrenaline junkies, ahhhhhhhh, maybe that is why I chase the elusive perfect pussy.

You have to be careful about what kind of business your in when you are in Colombia. Generally speaking people that are low key don't have problems here. I have a lot of friends that like Noah and spent alot of time hanging out with him.

It could be a risk-taking or devil-may-care attitude; an over-attachment to boozing, the white stuff, or other substances; getting in over their heads in money or business matters, saying the wrong things to the wrong people (whether true or not, doesn't matter) , or a combination of the above.
It's not in good taste to criticize the dead but I wouldn't be surprised if at least one of the factors listed above helped lead to this man's death. Anyway, I'm not going to comment or speculate on a specific case, I'm just giving general observations / advice.
It's important to keep in mind the "death-culture" over there. Life really is cheap down there, let me give you some perspective: I would say around half the girls I dated / sessioned with (or more?) have a man in their life (boyfriend, brother, etc.) that was killed or in jail.
If you get caught by a robber, just hand over your cash and watch (get a fake rolex or two from your local chinatown and wear those when traveling). I try to carry no more than I can afford to lose but at least carry around 80-100k cop of "throw-away" money for these kinds of situations.
Let me put it this way: the guy that is robbing you has probably 1/3 of his friends dead and 1/3 in jail. His dad, brother, cousin, I would say 50% chance gone, dead, or murdered (maybe he witnessed the murder himself as a child or teen). He knows his number is coming up soon, so he will have no qualms whatsoever of taking you out should you give him any resistance or lip.
I agree with the quote above about keeping a low profile / being low-key. No bs, threats, or boasting when talking to people; and if I can borrow a Shakespeare quote (from Hamlet by the way)"neither a borrower nor a lender be" is crucial in Colombia. That alone should eliminate 90% of any potential trouble down there.

I agree with everything you said. Very good observations on Colombian society. For the "death culture," the whole history of Colombia, especially Medellin, demonstrates it. In Colombia, while the price of putas is cheap, your life is cheap as well. Don't involve with anybody. Don't upset anybody. Let them steal a little from you. Don't resist. Been thinking of going to Medellin later this year, but have been disturbed by recent reports of violence described in the forums. I was planning of staying at CB, exploring the city during the day during tourist stuff, and enjoying nocturnal activities at CB.
Are the dangers people have been describing in most of the city, or just some parts of it? Of course, foreigners in general are targeted for things like mugging, etc. But are foreigner mongers particularly resented and targeted? And if so, do they target places like CB?
Hoping to hear advice from mongers who are veterans of Medellin.

Thanks!MDE is not as safe as you would like. I don't care where you stay each area has had problems with bandits. Your plan has merit, but you will still need to read the board for advice on protecting yourself.
I have been over a lot of Latin America, and the only place I have felt completly safe is in Lima in the Miraflores secton. As far as MDE I have been there about 10 different times, and so far have been robbed twice. Both times were my own fault as I got complacent, and then paid the price.

I cannot get into too much details except to say that the murder of one of the expatriates was due to some questionable activity. I happen to know some people who were aware of some of his goings on.
If I walk out at night there is security, with guard dogs, lining the hill, that I need to walk up and down to get anywhere. The more dangerous area is El Centro. This is the poor section of Medellin. I was in that area about an hour ago (midnight) and Felt safe. As long as one stays near the clubs, or even near the taxis, one is okay. I was hanging out near three clubs there and no one gave me problems. I do not recommend going to El Centro but if you take precautions (I did not get drunk; entered the neighborhood in a cab; left the neighborhood in a cab; did not flash money; was not loud and did not bring attention to myself) even a bad area can be navigated. You will enjoy Medellin. It is a good place.

Poblado and Laureles certainly you have better odds of not running into trouble, but then again the thieves know that's where the money is (and bobo gringo).

On another note, every time I start thinking one of these days I could marry one of these fine ass Colombianas, I find another sweet, young, drop dead gorgeous petite little thing in an el centro casa. I mean hot enough that she could easily be working at Fase 2 or Luna Lunera on a Friday or Saturday night. I found one last week that, if she had been asking 150, 000 COP I would have paid it. But nope. 32, 000 pesos and I was up in that sweet, tight, beautiful young ass. Which made me think, hmmm, any yahoo with a few pesos to rub together can fuck this girl. Not exactly wife material there. Of course, one shouldn't be looking for a wife in an el centro casa, but my point is you just never know with a Colombiana if her cuca is or has been for sale. Certainly there are Colombianas who will not prostitute themselves, but it seems to me they are in the minority.
So fuck it, I guess I'll stick with the old adage: If it fly's, floats or fucks, it's cheaper to rent!

Been thinking of going to Medellin later this year, but have been disturbed by recent reports of violence described in the forums. I was planning of staying at CB, exploring the city during the day during tourist stuff, and enjoying nocturnal activities at CB.
Are the dangers people have been describing in most of the city, or just some parts of it? Of course, foreigners in general are targeted for things like mugging, etc. But are foreigner mongers particularly resented and targeted? And if so, do they target places like CB?
Hoping to hear advice from mongers who are veterans of Medellin.

I am still in Medellin and was talking to the owner at apartment I was staying at. He lives hear and agrees that if one is careful their stay in Medellin should be fine. He has been in Medellin for several years and has had no trouble.
I was in El Centro on Sunday and it was quiet. One of the workers, at the clubs, would walk up and down the street to make sure that the street action was not bothering the tourists. Yes, Manizales, I was in touch with my surroundings and this is why I took cabs in and out of the neighborhoods, and into the clubs. And this is why nothing happened. It does have it's dangers, though. I felt safe because I took precautions.

I didn't wear any watches or fancy clothes. It was tshirt and jeans everyday. This noah guy obviously was into bad stuff or a biz that was taking money away from locals. People just don't come into a restaurant and shoot one guy and leave unless its a hit. The other killing was at a hostel. What do you expect. People that stay at hostels are broke and could have serious mental issues.

Just because you see a guy in a uniform with a gun does not mean you are safe. The "security" on every corner with dogs is for the building or business they're protecting or for the Bank ATM they guard. Do you really thing they would intervene on your behalf once you were 15 feet away from the ATM? If they saw you having harsh words with a guy or guys on the street? If you got mugged or had your walled pick pocketed? IMO the answer is a resounding NO! They are paid to keep the private property of their employers safe. They are essentially mall cops with guns and could care less about you. Sure they'd call an ambulance or the cops for you if you walked up to one of them bleeding but that's it.
If you have ANY real experience in Colo you'll know the answer to this one: What is more important to that random security guard, Your safety or keeping his job that pays his bills and keeps his family safe?
A life lesson you all need to learn. In the streets you can only count on yourself for protection and to keep you safe! When it come to help you better hope that a cop or army guy (NOT a security guard) is near by when a situation gets nuts.

For casas, if I returned for a second look on another day, it was also nearly all the same girls. Anyone else have different experience? At the casas, I heard someone mention something about shift changes or fresh girls coming to work after school. Any more intel on that subject?
And what is the M. O at Lindas? I have been there 3 times. The last two, nobody captured my attention in spite of my first fantastic experience and many rave reviews. I even sat and shared a few beers. I got a tour of the place but nobody mentioned nor did I notice any computer database. Only "more girls will arrive later."
I take pictures as a serious hobby. I'm guessing it's a bad idea of walking around Poblado or any other tourist areas with a point and shoot camera taking pictures of the scenery and other stuff cause that would make me look like an easy target

I only ever had up to 5 sows, the biggest litter was 21 and 15 lived! When I had these I was 14 years.
My father was a policeman and mother was from a farming background.

For example Delaware potaotoes were for the fresh market. Sebago, Kenabeck and Cadema were for the potatoe chips market and Russet Burbank were for the french fries market. In my heyday I grew over 1,000 ton a year.
I also had a 1, 000 sheep and 250 cattle breeders, F1 with a Charloia bull over them, growing baby beef for the local market, then I swiched to a dairy for two years before coming to Colombia.
(this is what I miss the most being in Colombia, not being able to make my own butter, cheese and flavoured milk to sell)

Like Miquel61 said, you would be very comfortable in either Casa Blanca 1 or 2. Last year (4/11) I stayed at CB 2 and there was a couple staying at CB 1 and they were doing exactly what you want to do. The ladies come every afternoon to CB 1 and you do your shopping there. The ladies (for rent) are young and good looking plus you party in the afternoon (and sometimes well into the evening for nothing) , you only pay for the private entertainment. For a couple hours w / a CB hottie it's 150, 000p, TLN 300, 000p ($150/300). These ladies are somewhat screened (by CB) to be honest and respectful, it is a very safe method of operation for the monger.
Of course the Casa Blanca Hotel is in Poblado and that is a very upscale Medellin area. Your blonde would not stand out in Poblado. 1 out of 3 women walking around there are DDG. The Poblado area is huge much like any very upscale neighborhood w / lots of commerce in the USA. Your blonde would feel comfortable walking around there on her own. In response to my inquiry below, thank you to those of you who truly understood my reason to post my question on this board and offered HELPFUL advise. To those other responses below, my original thought was to just ignore. But I thought I would clarify a few things as to the purpose of my post.
First, I think those that provided helpful information understood my reason for describing my girlfriend as a "tall, hot, blonde" in the CONTEXT OF SAFETY IN MEDELLIN. For those that don't understand and think I was 'boasting', let me break it down for you:
"Tall"- A woman that is tall is going to get noticed from across the street, whereas a woman that is average in height or short, most likely wouldn't get noticed unless she was up close.
"Hot"- Although "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", from my previous travels with her, men (and women) definitely do a double take when they see her, both in the states and abroad. Therefore, I'm assuming an attractive woman would get more unwanted attention then say an average looking or unattractive gringa.
"Blonde"- I realize that there are probably more blondes in MDE than in other parts of Colombia, but I'm sure if my girlfriend was dark hair, dark skin, and dark eyes, she would be more easily able to blend in and not draw unwanted attention.

I have been told by Medellin Bob who is running the bar that it will be open from "around" 1-2pm till midnight, 7 nights per week.
No smoking in the bar but a area for smoking is available out to one side, out past the toilet.
At this stage, only open for guests staying at the hotel.

If I were you and staying for 6 weeks, I will enroll myself in a Spanish program in the University. In that setting, you will have plenty of opportunity to come in contact with non-pros. This is potentially a win-win situation. You will learn the language (which is a must) right and have the possibility of several quality encounters with university girls.
