I'm taking a trip to Medellin and possibly Cartagena next month, and was hoping for a little bit of advice. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to stay? It looks as though the Mansion would be ideal for a first timer, but I was wondering if there are any other choices.
Also, what clubs do you recommend? I prefer younger, slim, GND types. Is there anything I. Colombia that would be similar to an FKK in Germany (I really enjoy the FKKs)?
Lastly, are there any activities or places to see that you all would recommend when one is not mongering? I appreciate any piece of advice you all have to give.

Start searching FB. "Medellin", "chica", "La Clinica" (nightclub popular with the chicas), etc. Look for profiles that have a very sexy main photo, usually an ass or boobs shot. Look at these profiles. Check if you can see their friend list.
If you can see the friend list, scroll through. Do they have several old gringos on the list? Congratulations! You found your first one. Now check the gringo profiles until you find one where you can see their friend list. This will get you between 20 and 90 more chicas.
Every probable chica, send a friend request. Many will respond quickly with a messages. "Hola", "Como estás", "de donde eres" and "cuando llegas en Medellin?" You should be able to figure it out from there.

MEDELLIN.
I arrived in Medellin (MDE) from Bogota via VivaColombia, a Colombian national airline (flight was $44, including a carry on and airport check in) at about 11:45 am. I did not pre-arrange a taxi in order to get a good read on how much of a deal I could get. Safely. Since I was traveling domestically from Bogota, no Customs or Immigration. MEDELLIN.
I arrived in Medellin (MDE) from Bogota via VivaColombia, a Colombian national airline (flight was $44, including a carry on and airport check in) at about 11:45 am. I did not pre-arrange a taxi in order to get a good read on how much of a deal I could get. Safely. Since I was traveling domestically from Bogota, no Customs or Immigration. I avoided the usual random guys asking if I needed a taxiespecially as I got closer to the authorized taxi line. As I approached the taxi line, there was a group of 4 or so taxi drivers standing around talking. I stood by the first taxi in the line and was approached by a driver. I asked if it was his taxi, which he affirmed. I then proactively asked if he was good with 70 mil pesos, which he seemed surprised that I asked, yet he agreed to it. Next time, I'll start at 50 mil and see where it gets me.

Next time, I'll start at 50 mil and see where it gets me...That is an outstanding, very informative report. The official taxi fare from the airport to Poblado is 65 mil. That's probably the reason the driver was surprised.
Also, the walk to New Life is about the same distance from the Parque Berrio metro station as from the Prado station, and there are hardly any unsavory looking characters on the way.
I think I will have to visit Paris Club when I am in Medellin next month.

Ever since New Life raised their rates, and the service is so hit or miss, I've been hittin a place known on the casa map as Sexy Fantasias Two. It's located across from Parque Bolivar. Even though there's only a lineup of 6 - 8 at any given time, they have a good selection of spinners, and big ass girls. Service has ranged from pretty good to outstanding (valeria and a black girl who name escapes me.) If you don't have access to the casa map, you can pull up Google Maps and find it from there. Again, it's the street, Carrera 47, that runs adjacent between Parque Bolivar and Avenida Oriental. Its entrance is next to Premium Plaza Hotel. You'll know you have the right place when you see the 70's style bead door curtains. Price is 40 mil for half hour. Also checked out Zandalays which is on the same street just before it hits Avenida Oriental. Didn't meet the guy, Barry, we rented through, but the process was nice and easy, paid the rest of the down payment and a deposit and we were handed the keys after a brief tour and explanation of the property.
We got down at 12, so it was 1 in the morning by the time we hit the roads. We walked around Poblado a bit but didn't get to Parque Lleras, simply because we didn't know it was there. The one thing we did know about and kept hearing about was Fase II. So we went there. It wasn't packed but it was a lot of dancers in there. We vibed with a view of them, drank, tipped and chatted. They were charging approximately $120 to $200 USD for like 1 or 2 hours to come back with us. As it was our first night we decided to take it easy. So we left and hopped into a taxi right outside. Only to find two girls already in the taxi. The driver was like, no worries, I drop them then you. Then a third girl comes in. So we just pick up on God's gift and chatted them up; instead of going home or wherever, they ended up back by us. $100 apiece, grand ole time.
We visited New Life a few times and Club de Amigas Sexy twice. Club de Amigas was good, it was our first stop, they have about 6 or 7 girls there regularly, great choices IMO. New Life definitely is the place to go, always a handful of beautiful girls to choose from. Question, what is the purpose of a Medellin Cedula? Well, it's a Colombia cedula. Cedula Extranjero (Foreigner ID) to be specific. It's basically an ID version of my 1 year temporary Visa. So, I don't need to carry around my passport (which has the admission stamp to show that you are legal in the country) like you are supposed to as a tourist. It is a bit different from the Colombian citizens' cedula, but, it can be used for many of the same purposes- opening a bank account, setting up utilities, etc etc. You don't need one, but for someone intending to set up shop semi-permanently to permanently, it makes all the details a bit easier it seems.

Process was pretty painless. You can submit paperwork online and set up an appointment. Show up with your paperwork and passport, takes about 20 minutes then you get fingerprints and photo taken. Afterwards go to banco Occidente and pay the. Bring the receipt back to the person who processed you application. They stamp a new visa and you're done.

I don't know about casas, but I am a walker and will be avoiding strip clubs. I am a hunter, I'll be walking all over. What are the chances of me finding some real good street stuff, cheap too.

I would like to have seen that. I assume you had two cousins with you, so that would have been six people and the driver in a taxi! Reminds me of the movie clip where people just continue to get out of a VW beetle. $100 is an all-night price, but if everyone had a good time, that is all that matters. Strange. I have traveled the world as a solo traveler for 3 decades and never had any issues in any countries. I speak English and knew some German. I studied Spanish but rarely got to use it in Mexico as most speak English there. My Spanish is not fluent but better than broken broken. I had no issues visiting Spain, Argentina, Paraguay and Peru. Only problem was finding the local beer in a grocery store! Majority of countries I have visited, many do not speak English and I have communicated with them. I learnt some French before going to Morocco and my really bad pronunciation of French was a big breaking the ice as the girls just laughed. I also found that using a tablet and communicate using the translater at the apartment can be fun too. Of course it is better if you know the language but I love to travel solo. Better than being in a group. I can do what I want when I want.

I arrived in Medellin (MDE) from Bogota via VivaColombia, a Colombian national airline (flight was $44, including a carry on and airport check in) at about 11:45 am. I did not pre-arrange a taxi in order to get a good read on how much of a deal I could get. Safely. Since I was traveling domestically from Bogota, no Customs or Immigration. I avoided the usual random guys asking if I needed a taxiespecially as I got closer to the authorized taxi line. As I approached the taxi line, there was a group of 4 or so taxi drivers standing around talking. I stood by the first taxi in the line and was approached by a driver. I asked if it was his taxi, which he affirmed. I then proactively asked if he was good with 70 mil pesos, which he seemed surprised that I asked, yet he agreed to it. Next time, I'll start at 50 mil and see where it gets me.
Anyway, got to the apartment. One of Barry's Poblado Rentals (www.pobladorentals.com), the same exact place I stayed at last timein the heart of Parque Lleras. Next to Sky Zone Bar on Carrera 38. Location is 1 block from Hooters. Got to the apartment and it was as expected. With the added guarantee that the Jacuzzi was working this time! Settled in and unpackedclothes, red light, baby oil, lube, condoms, Nutella, loofas for the girls, extra phone, list of places to go, Viagra and Cialis. Good to go!.Great trip report. Thanks.
Welcome! El centro, Robledo, and barrio Antioquia are super safe. The best is to go during night time with all of the action. I recommend you walk as much as you can and immerse yourself as a local. Individuals you should approach are the ones wearing sunglasses with jeans and a backpack. Just walk right up to them saying "oye marica" which means "hey man". They will hook you up with anything you need and are super friendly. I also recommend you look at your phone often when you are trying to navigate. Anyway, hes a big real estate mogul with hundreds of apartments, so my little comment will not have any actual effect on his business.
Why not book through booking.com rather than be another typical sex tourist in "gringo gulch" where the gringo tax has become automatic? If you want to party loud and late most of your nights, then stay as close to parque lleras as possible. Otherwise there are tons of great options!
Its easy to find fantastic apartments in Medellin! Just make sure you can have guests and be respectful of neighbors as anyone should be no matter where you are visiting.
The la 70 area between Estadio and avenida 33 are really cool areas! Lots of students and locals in this disco, bar, restaurant packed area. Very centrally located while taxis in Medellin are super easy and economical to get everywhere you need to be in minutes! Furthermore, another option, downtown (el centro). Many guys I know end up spending most of their time downtown! And then at night they end of taking taxis all over the city anyway. Plus, downtown is much more economical for everything. Food, chicas, rent, shopping. Everything. It is called Centro bcause it is THE CENTER. So instead of 40 minute, 25 mil taxis each way for practically every chica from Bello, it is only 12 mil and 15 - 20 minutes.

There is one high rise building with apartments that rent mostly to gringos. The apartments are individually owned, so there is not one owner to look for. If you look at the pictures on airbnb, the building has all glass in the front. Most of the owners advertise as one block from LA70. I don't like a security person at the apartments I rent, so I don't have personal knowledge of any other than the one building in Laureles.

There maybe one or two underground casas, but not public one, in Bello. As for your theory, it is opposite in actuality. These girls do not want to work in their own area because they hide what they are doing. Bello girls and barrio girls go to El Centro and other areas "to work at stores and restaurants."

Have to the pay the club $15 or so exit fee to leave with them right away. And the Centro Clubs girls don't have platinum pussy syndrome. The Fase Dos type upscale type clubs girls tend too but some of them are worth it. I've gotten TLN (all night) from Centro club girls starting at 250 k ($75) and up.

I think agencies can be useful on a short stay. If you don't like the centro casas, the costs are not significantly higher. Hopefully the agency does the screening for you so you do not have a problem at the hotel reception. Unlikely to have a theft problem with a girl from a reliable agency where she is making good money. The girl will probably not be a full blown drug addict or at least a discreet one. The agencies probably cater to the business man rather than to sex tourist.

The "casas" are in El Centro. By the way, locals call them, "salas de masages" As far as I know, there are no other permanent type establishments which are registered businesses. Sometimes new ones pop up and disappear quickly. Often, when this happens, they reopen in a "casa" that has been closed for a while.
Other "casas" are out there. But they are private and in my experience have always been more expensive and not necessarily better than what you find in El Centro. Private meaning they are advertising somehow and you need to get their addresses by exploring and being adventurous or possibly a taxi driver. Rarely are they "walk in" like the well known centro establishments.
Web sites similar to milerticos for example, you may come across some sexy fotos you like and it turns out the girl is working with a few of her friends in an apartment they are sharing together. The la 70 area between Estadio and avenida 33 are really cool areas! Lots of students and locals in this disco, bar, restaurant packed area. Very centrally located while taxis in Medellin are super easy and economical to get everywhere you need to be in minutes! Furthermore, another option, downtown (el centro). Many guys I know end up spending most of their time downtown! And then at night they end of taking taxis all over the city anyway. Plus, downtown is much more economical for everything. Food, chicas, rent, shopping. Everything. It is called Centro bcause it is THE CENTER. So instead of 40 minute, 25 mil taxis each way for practically every chica from Bello, it is only 12 mil and 15 - 20 minutes.

Of course picking up a regular girl in Colombia is usually not the same as in the US, where you make your move and 2 hours later, you're in her bed. Here you'll spend several hours talking, dancing and drinking and get a phone number, or an invite to join them again. The phone number will get you a date, which will get you another date. Depending on the girl, one of those dates will get you in her bed.
If you're spending a few days in Medellin, trying to pick up regular girls is a great way to save on condoms, because you won't have an opportunity to use one.

Yes, I speak Spanish and I tend to do good in the US picking up girls.

It's not that they were taking a lot of time with each person, but that three flights had arrived roughly at the same time and that was causing the surge. Got some money at the airport out of the Bancolombia ATM there (small line), which didn't charge on that end, and then got some water at a snack bar just to get even smaller bills and have exact change for the taxi. Was easy to get one of the blue and white ones to go to Poblado for the official 65 K.
The hotel in El Poblado turned out to be a pretty good pick. It was the Hostal Relax 10, right on Calle Diez about a block from Parque Lleras. It's about halfway between a hostel and a hotel, with both shared rooms and private ones. I got one of the highest-end private ones, a deluxe double with a king bed, nice TV and a cramped ensuite bathroom, at $23/ night. They were OK with joiners and would not charge extra if you booked a double room, the clerk explained, but they would have to register them and wouldn't let them go without the guest's permission. All of which was cool, and similar to what I was familiar with in Asia. A few rooms had windows to the street, while others, like mine, had windows to the inside. No climate control, but it's Medellin. Booked on William Shatner's old site.
I had too much circadian-rhythm disruption the first night to partake of much, but I did walk around the Parque area on a Wednesday night. Generally subdued, some places open and greater visibility of maybe a dozen or two "compania" girls who'd happily go back.
The next day I walked down to the train and got on it to Prado and walked along Av. Oriental to the outer side streets to find New Life. Be warned it's just like Amsterdam and the privehuizen in that everything is TOTALLY discreet for these places and there's NO signage (not even an identifier on a mailbox), so it all looks like just a regular residential neighborhood. And you've GOT to have the exact street address, including the numbers (e. G. 48-39). And with New Life the tip about the blue door helped.
They buzz you in and you go to a waiting area and the lineup comes out one-by-one, shaking your hand and giving a name. Hard to remember all that and I didn't get some of the names right (they get annoyed if they have to bring them out again). There were 2 locals in the area at the same time and one took the one that was going to be my first choice, Jennifer, so I had to go to the second choice and didn't get the name just so but I think it was Natalie. As has been mentioned, they have posted prices and you can also get a beer.
She did a workmanlike routine with the CBJ, but I was disappointed in my own performance after that. Too much walking, no blue pill, wrong time of day, whatever. No lead in the pencil, so she went to massage for about 5 minutes and then the 30 was up. Damage at 50 K, so might as well work out the kinks at that pricing point.
Regrouped, walked around streets on the other side, near Parque Bolivar, got something to eat and tried Club Paris. Again, no signage and just had to walk in an open door and past curtains, but the place had a more laid-back and family-run kind of feel (if such a thing is possible in that business). Only about 6 or so girls and again I botched the names, but the clear choice on appearance was a 20-something Morena with black hair and a slightly enhanced Kardashi-butt. Also great attitude, it turned out. I had pre-loaded the blue pill and paid for the full hour at 60 K (a good deal under circumstances). She was up for a lot of pounding and the butt effect was kind of a new sensation from behind, but the tightness wasn't totally there. That, a slight bit of stomach unease and the copious sweat factor (as places are never air-conned, so humidity can bring out sweat) all just barely prevented a leche. Just can't do like in 20's and 30's, I guess. But she did the good GFE part and I gave about a 10 K propina.
Next day I tried Zandalay, which isn't far from Paris and is on the inside blocks near the bend in Ave. Oriental. Another ajar door with no markings and this time walking up stairs, to a bar area with music playing and maybe 8 girls sitting around. Also maybe a couple of regulars. The snarky mamasan switched off the music and had the girls do the introductions. Again I just got puzzled looks when I said what sounded like the name of someone, and I added "proximo al ultimo" but they just had to trot out 2 or 3 again and I selected the one. Snarky kind of vibe, so I opted only for the 30 minutes at 42 K, IIRC. Girl was a braces-wearing 20-year old with maybe an A size up-top after clothes came off. She was tightest so far but too dry. Which brought up the point to BRING LUBE. Even a small K-why tube is COP 18 K, which is a bit pricey relative to incomes and explains why even the girls that carry it have exhausted their supply. This one wasn't conscious that she was too dry.
Last place was Paris again and this time Juliana was there, so I picked her for the hour based on a recommendation here. The upstairs room used seemed impossibly narrow. Juliana is a bit older and has enhanced bags, and of a larger size but proportional, reminding me of the legendary Lek of soi 6 in Pattaya. Sometimes it's worth it to go with this type of person, especially if she's had a longer career in places where they are usually shorter (as that SOMETIMES indicates performance specialties that can bring repeat business and lengthen careers. A few girls "get" this but most won't).
Anyway, she's a curvy, very physical person and will do her share of the pounding (I. E. No starfish) and has kind of a cute cross-eyed look as well. And a "what it takes" attitude to bring about the final result, which proved decisive in the end. Also well prepared. I gave her also a propina.
So Club Paris was the best in a limited range of places tried. YMMV. I disappointed myself with my own performance (don't use it and you lose it, I guess, plus creeping aging). But there was the touristy stuff also competing for time / attention during the days, which seemed crammed because of fitting in the massage places as well. But I never did try a nightcap with the "compania" girls or bring one back to the hotel, though I did have enough energy for a nice meal or two and some people-watching from the Beer Store right across from the park (their "Black Hong Kong" was a good martini drink). All the walking caught up on the first day, and there was also the World Series game. So many distractions! As others have mentioned, the weekend crowds around Parque Lleras are really substantial, though as in the U.S. the non-pro girls who aren't with dates tend to run in packs and you need Spanish + game + likely a wingman to crack that, which is the same formula as in the U.S.
The other activities also proved worthwhile, like the Museo de Antioquia and the Botero works, or taking the train and Metro Cable to Parque Arvi (a real must-do, IMO), or even the open-air double-decker Turibus around town. Next time Guatupe and the coffee areas.

There have been a few reports that the police are trying to keep working girls out of the Park itself. Either the police are really bad at this task, or the reports aren't currently true. I walk through the park late night, between 11:30 and 3:30, 3 or 4 times a week and there are always a few.
Usually there are 2 or 3 across the street from Lleras Town, in the park and on weekends there are some hanging out beside the closed bar, just west of Lleras Town. You can also find them close to Juan Valdez, in the center of the Park and near Habanas.
Besides Gusto, you might try La Clinica. They usually have free drinks for chicas.
I've seen a few girls on Carrera 37 between the park and Calle 10.
They are out there.

Here's a tip I left out that may be helpful: The best pharmacy I found on selection + prices was Drogueria Sur No. 2 at 53-113 Carrera 51. That street is the street that runs under the rail line around Parque Berrios station, and the street number is a little ways up the road in the direction of Prado station and on the same side of the road as Plaza Botero (and not a long walk at all from there). Unlike with the massage places, there is signage. They had a generic brand of the blue pill at 4 x 50 MG at COP 4200 for the box, though I went for the Genfar one with 4 x 50 MG at COP 6000 for the box. Also good prices on other stuff.
Also walked by the places on the plaza near the museum (Conejitas, etc.) and wondered about 'em. Didn't have time to check it out, alas. I guess another to-do for next time.

2. if I want to stay near the casa area, is there a recommended mid-range hotel?Yes safety, the downtown Centro area (aka La Candelaria) where most the Casa's and cheaper strip clubs and redlight blocks are gets a little sketchy at night, wandering homeless and drug addicts etc. I stay there when I go but I speak fluent Spanish, lived in Central America for 5 years and a bad part of Washington DC for a year and spent a year in Kandahar Afghanistan so it seems fine to me. LOL.
I stay at the Hotel Botero for $26 a night, they have a roof top bar / sauna with a great view of the city, it's 15 story and no prob with chicas. (but rent a room for 2) Don't need cabs, 1/2 block to the indoor ATM at hotel Nutribara, 24 food and a grocery store around the corner, 3 titty-bars & 2 brothels & 2 redlight blocks within 3 blocks, WiFi sometimes in the room, always in lobby, walk in shower with hot water, clean beds, mini fridge, 42 flat-screen, not very good AC but windows open, ask for a fan, get a high floor on the west side of the building. Also a plus that the airport buses are parked in that block so $3 ride to your hotel.

I should warn you that if you stay in Centro you will not get to spend as much time with other gringos as you will if you stay in Poblado. Pick your poison, LOL!

1. Poblado, especially Parque Lleras, is where you'll find the most gringos. I live in Poblado and spend a lot of time in Parque Lleras. It's a safe area with plenty of entertainment options, although mongering options are somewhat limited.
2. What do you consider a midrange hotel? Midrange cost is about $30. Midrange quality is 3 stars. However, $30 in El Centro doesn't necessarily mean 3 star quality.
3. There are a few posts detailing how to get started on FB. There are pluses and minuses. As with everything, YMMV and lack of any Spanish will limit your enjoyment.
Here is an example regarding knowing some Spanish.
My Spanish is poor but improving. The hardest part is hearing what others are saying. It can be very frustrating for both parties.
This morning I met up with a very sweet Venezuelana, in my opinion a solid 9. She's educated, but knows very little English. Definitely not enough for any type of conversation. We talked, hung out, listened to music then had an unrushed, very good session. By the time she left, over 4 hours had passed.
Without Spanish, we would have spent maybe an hour and the price would have been the same. Now there are some guys who figure 4 hours should mean 4 different chicas. For me, I prefer a more complete experience.
For those who have been, would you please describe the costs associated with taking a trip out to Guatape. Please include any recreational expenses (boat rental, jet ski rental, etc), transportation to / from, food on site, etc etc. I'm also interested to know of any lodging options in the area as well as private spots to get a bang or BJ in!

I agree with you. Spanish speaking or not, he will have no problem in casas. I doubt he will find strip clubs very challenging either since they are just casas with a bar, a stage, and sound system out front.
If he is going to try to pick up girls on the street or in bars and restaurants it could get trickier. Most of my Colombian friends don't do it either. Language of course is not a factor for them but they enjoy the convenience and privacy of casas. I like privacy too, that is why I never send people to gringo centric businesses like the Mansion. Yes, I know the gringo businesses officially respect your privacy. The clientele doesn't always feel it's important.

My first trip to MDE. I rented a apartment for a couple of months in San Diego area of MDE. I knew close to nothing and yes those 20 words. My first day was almost a disaster. I didn't know the area, had no ability to communicate with the locals except with my phone. My phone was dying and I needed to get back to my apartment and only had the address on my phone. The cab driver did not know the area and we drove for like 40 minutes trying to find it. Anyways, I enrolled into UPB for a month and it was a waste of money. I learned only how to pronounce the letters and a few words. Again, a waste. Luckily, I was able to connect to some vets like Jonsie and VegasJeff. They helped out tremendously in showing me around when doing casa runs and I was still learning the FB game. Gave me a few pointers on how to lay low. One, don't look like a gringo. Can't say it enough. Since the gringo footprint has grown since my first experience, the locals have some what adjusted but believe me, they think you look stupid. So as time went, I started to pick up some key words and phrases. This helped but I was no where near what I needed. 2 months passed and I maybe increased my Spanish by maybe 15%. Still had the minimal experience I had and still had fun.
Month 3, decided to live in Poblado. Well, this is where I grew exponentially. Enrolled into EAFIT. Dedicated really hard into learning the language. Met many fellow expats. Had a much better experience. Did my casa runs and FB girls. Man, I'm thinking. This is the life.
To make it short, like those that have lived there I would recommend taking taking their advice. I have witnessed many times where gringos stand out and targeted to be robbed. Once down the very same street as New Life. Yep, that is true. Not going into details of that because that is the not the point of this posting and frankly I don't give a S**t. I'm not saying it happens all the time but the chances are greater in central.
Back to the US and going to Tijuana. Wow, my skill improved and now I can talk more with the girls at the bars. You can see they are much more relaxed speaking their native language and it helped with the experience. Same girls I had before I left are now providing better services. Could be I was a regular or not. But a couple now were open to hanging out else where. Go to dance clubs and a nice GFE with them. Yes, some gave it to me for free after that. So I decided I needed to learn more Spanish and on my second trip, I went for 5 months. Absorbed as much as possible and yes my game is better.
If you want a less frustration, go stay in Poblado. If you like a challenge and can deal with it and think you are getting a great experience. Well you are not. Not without the language and the lay of the land and culture. Go stay in Central. The choice is yours. If you want to keep having to walk around with your guard up at a high level by all means go to central. But if you want to keep your guard up low and relax a little more, go to poblado. Enjoying a vacation is about relaxing and enjoying the environment. If you enjoy the challenges on what ever level you prefer by all means the final decision is yours.

For those who have been, would you please describe the costs associated with taking a trip out to Guatape. Please include any recreational expenses (boat rental, jet ski rental, etc), transportation to / from, food on site, etc etc. I'm also interested to know of any lodging options in the area as well as private spots to get a bang or BJ in!

The trip takes about 90 minutes on the bus. You can just hire a car, Vico Zul for example, which might cost $100 US for the day or so. Boat tours on the reservoir are also inexpensive, as are horseback rides and other activities. The lakefront is lined with restaurants. The piedra del peńol is on the way, perhaps 10 km? Before Guatape. There are several nice hotels around the town and on the waterfront. You can find them on any of the hotel booking sites. Hotel Verony is quite nice with a big pool and outdoor jacuzzi. The Hotel Charlee has a luxury property if you want to spoil yourself and your companion. There are no casas or clubs. It does. Learning Spanish from point zero costs a lot, in terms of effort, but then it just pays and pays and pays. For those who are getting to an intermediate level, I recommend a couple of things. First, go someplace for a couple of months and don't hang out with gringos. Second, buy the newspaper every day and see how far you can get through it. Make the buying process an interactive exchange with your neighborhood newspaper vendor, who probably needs the extra two cents your newspaper purchase brings him or her (but usually him for whatever reason). Reading the paper also puts you into the loop of current events, which gives you Spanish conversation topics. Third, listen to Spanish radio and TV exclusively. Fourth, try to let the Spanish wash over you instead of translating everything in your mind.

Disagree with you and agree with Sbeach. Centro, except casas, is not a place for non-Spanish speaker. Non-speakers just do not see the dangers, tricks and problems.Again, don't be that guy. It amazes me the gringo mentality because we are not aware of our surroundings. No matter where I walk, I was do the 360 degree scope. Showdown.Ja ja. First place I ever had South American pussy, in 1977. I don't remember the exchange rate at the time but the cost was about three dollars. Two local guys took me down this path into the jungle and I figured I would be robbed, shot, and left for dead. Nah. We went a few hundred meters and reached a clearing where there were four bar / wh at rehouses in a square pattern. Reminded me of one of the towns in Nevada, I think Winnemucca or maybe Elko, that had the same square pattern with four houses. The woman and I (I was a mere lad at the time) went out the back door of the place and I was thinking they had rooms back there. No. We walked about twenty meters into the darkness and she threw a blanket down on the ground y punto.
Then the two guys introduced me to a big fat dude with a whole lot of gold jewelry who sold me so much fucking weed for like five dollars, I couldn't come close to smoking it all so I gave it to the guy who took me to the airport. Turns out the guy who sold me the dope was head of customs for the whole region or province (department? I forget what they call them in Colombia) and he pulled my sister and me out of the huge line on the sweltering tarmac and we shot the shit in his little shaded palapa until it was time to board. Sister was like what the fuck was that and I just said it was a long story.
I imagine one or two things may have changed in forty years but I would bet several thousand colombian pesos that you can still find pussy there!

Your license isn't worth anything in Colombia. What you want to do as soon as you get there is get a photocopy on one single page where one side shows the declaration page of your passport and the other said shows the visa stamp when you entered the country. Different people are going to tell you different things about credit cards but I don't use them in bars or *****houses anywhere in the world. I might use one in a big chain grocery store or something. And you definitely don't want to go out at night with a debit card, where crooks could take you to an ATM at gunpoint and make you withdraw as much as possible.

Thank you!Your safety in Medellin depends on you. Over the past 7 months I've walked about 900 miles, most of it in Medellin. I haven't had anything close to a problem. I am almost always carrying at least 300 k pesos, a good phone and my debit card. I may also be carrying my laptop. Most of the miles are in Poblado, since I live and work here, although I do frequent walk through in Mayorista.
If I'm going to El Centro, I will leave the laptop at home and carry less cash.
In my opinion, nobody has bothered me because I don't look like a target. I'm not gawking, looking at my phone and trying to figure out where I'm going. I don't look confused or lost. I look like I know exactly what I'm doing and where I'm going.
Most of the thieves are looking for a quick, easy score. If you're already confused, they know you're an easy target. If you're drunk or distracted, you're an easy target. They know you won't take any decisive action. You'll hand over everything before you realize what's happening.
My advice, don't walk around areas you're not familiar with, especially at night. The exception is Parque Lleras. Take a taxi to the door, if you're going to a club or casa. Split your cash. Don't keep it all in one pocket. If you must use your phone, do it on a busy street, step out of the flow and put your back to the wall. Keep aware of people around you.
If you keep your wits about you and be smart the risk goes way down.

I actually carry my driver's license with me as a form of foto ID when I use my credit card. Some places are not thrilled with a photocopy of my passport, but I've never had any restaurant or store have a problem with my driver's license as a form of ID to support that the credit card is mine.
The copy of your passport should include the stamp. That said, I've never bothered with it and never had a problem. I guess there is always a first time. I have been stopped by the cops on three occasions, but they never were worried about me. Rather they carded and searched the putas that were with me in the taxi.
Finally, I do carry a debit card when I go out (just in case I run out of cash). However, I have a separate bank account in which I only keep 600 mil or less. So if the card ever got stolen or I was forced to use it, I would lose no more than $200. That said, I have never had anything stolen from me and have never been held up/robbed. Again, there is always a first time. But I've had great luck in Colombia for over 11 years and probably 100 trips.

I stand corrected in that I forgot the value of a driver's license for when you need to use a credit card, because of course I do not recommend using credit cards. I rather suspect you could use any laminated expired ID with a credit card as well because they usually don't even know what the hell ID you are handing them. I have an expired food handler's card with my picture that I use in the grocery store here in Central América on the rare occasions I use my credit card.
I don't know how many of you guys have tried to get a new driver's license from scratch in the states recently but it ain't easy and so I would not be wanting to carry my driver's license around and do not. I have the passport card and would recommend that as an alternative.
As an aside, I was once able to rent a car in Chile with a driver's license that had been expired for a couple of months because of the whole thing about day / month / year versus the stupid US system of month / day / year for birthdates and expiration dates.
Just to give a general heads' up, losing or replacing your driver's license is way way WAY more hassle than it used to be. You are not going to walk out of the DMV with a new license. They are going to want to mail it to you to prove you live where you say you do. You have to verify your citizenship and your Social Security number and your address and it is a genuine fucking pain in the ass.

Yes, Iquitos and Leticia have many similarities, including a lot of pussy. It has been 40 years since I was in Leticia and almost twenty since I was in Iquitos, but I will say I really enjoyed Leticia and I fucking hated Iquitos. But in general I don't like Perú very much so that could be part of it. The forum has quite a bit of information on Iquitos, which is a considerably larger town.

TSA is security and only concerned about what you are carrying in your bag and on your person, not what you were doing in another location. As a matter of fact, if you are not making a connecting flight once you land in the USA, you will not even see TSA. And if you do see TSA, there is no way they would have known you keep returning to Colombia, because all they see is the ticket you show them for your next flight along with your ID. So maybe you meant it was immigration.

I told him because it's nice and it's cheap. Then he said him and his wife stayed there for a bit, and in a suspicious tone he said just tell me the truth. Feb 2017-My 1st trip to Colombia.
Last minute decision, was going to take my local US sugar baby to Puerto Rico (she could go there without a passport) and stay in old San Juan. She got sketchy about responding to txts or keeping dates so I thought where could I go myself that might be more fun?
Online research lead me to Colombia as a cheap and short flight and a great exchange rate with very pretty women. Due to alt, Bogota to high, Cartagena too low (and I don't like Cruise ports) I picked Medellin. Read the last 500 pages of this thread, IE ISG: MED Trip Reports. Some so I'd know where to go and what to pay and the rest looking for how things went wrong on trips, ie-ripped off / robbed / killed etc. I mapped all my foot routes to some Casa's, strip clubs & redlight blocks on Google StreetView. Picked busier roads with more foot traffic. Picked out some nice restaurants on Trip Advisor and made some dates on SeekingArrangements since I was already a member.
I had lived in Central America for 5 years and am fluent in Spanish and have lived in some scary parts of Wash DC and been to central Asia & and Africa so I have experience in large dangerous cities, foreign & domestic.
Flew American Airlines $470 RT out of Tampa via Miami. 3-1/2 HR flight, same time zone which is nice. Got Colombian currency online from Bank of America before I went.

Right behind the Hotel Nutribara and where the buses to the airport park. 15 story-$26 a night, hot water, walk in showers, great views of the mountains from the upper floors, 1/2 block to the ATM in Hotel Nutribara, 24 HR restaurant and grocery store around the corner, WiFi sometimes in the room, always in lobby, hot water, clean beds, mini fridge, 42 flat-screen, the A/C sucks, I doubt there's any Freon in the units but both windows open, ask for a fan, ask for mini-fridge, get a high floor on the west side of the building (opposite the side you come in the lobby on). It's in El Centro (aka La Candelaria) which my research indicated was the somewhat unsafe downtown area, the center of Casa's and strip clubs and redlight blocks. The hotel is across the street from the Casa Yakuza that stays open as late as 4 am, around the corner from Chicas Punta on Calle 54 and about a block & 1/2 to 3 strip clubs, Maracaibo, Barre Ejectiva and Conejitas, all lower price local's joints. And 2 redlight blocks, one behind Igesia VeraCruz, one in the Raudal area. Put strip club Fase-II on the lists of places to go check out cause I don't mind enhanced women and looked like they had some super hot ones.

I have been going to Colombia for over 11 years and over the past 3 years, I have been at least once a month. I can think of maybe two times that I was ever asked. The first time I said I had so many stamps because my ex-wife is from Colombia, which is true. The second time I simply said I had a girlfriend. Not really true per se, but my favorita is close enough. I could also honestly say that I like the climate and the people and the weather. I have never been asked a follow up question and pretty much always glide through immigration/customs with my global entry.
Just returned from Medellin. TSA dude asked me why I keep on returning to Colombia. Also asked whether I have seen more than one woman. Also insinuated that I might be seeing minors? I was like NO. I don't date minors. I just like to go there because I like their culture. How do you fellow mongers handle these kind of the questions?

Due to alt, Bogota to high, Cartagena too low (and I don't like Cruise ports) I picked Medellin. Read the last 500 pages of this thread, IE ISG: MED Trip Reports. Some so I'd know where to go and what to pay and the rest looking for how things went wrong on trips, ie-ripped off / robbed / killed etc. I mapped all my foot routes to some Casa's, strip clubs & redlight blocks on Google StreetView. Picked busier roads with more foot traffic. Picked out some nice restaurants on Trip Advisor and made some dates on SeekingArrangements since I was already a member..Thanks for the great report! I think you probably meant Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the officers who perform passport control at US points of entry. These officers can detain you if you are a citizen and deny you entry if you are not a citizen. But only for cause.
Evidence or admission of having violated USA Law, including violations committed outside the USA, constitutes cause. You can answer questions honestly without raising suspicion. The traditionally accepted answers to questions about frequency of travel to certain destinations are:
- business (often followed up with "what do you do for a living".
- visit friends (sometimes followed up with questions about how you met, the friends' name).
- visit family (less frequently followed up with "cousin, in-law etc. ?
The officers focus on gauging your reaction and looking for signs of nervousness, aggression, and / or deception. If you exhibit any, the follow up questions will come. Basically, the more frequent your visits, the more attention the agents pay. For example, a frequent visitor who says his occupation is a minimum wage job will raise all kinds of red flags as a possible drug mule or other shady activity. There has to be some logical explanation for being able to spend hundreds of dollars in airfare. Another suspicious sign would be someone who was away for several weeks but is traveling with only a small backpack. I hope this helps.
TSA? TSA is security and only concerned about what you are carrying in your bag and on your person, not what you were doing in another location. As a matter of fact, if you are not making a connecting flight once you land in the USA, you will not even see TSA. And if you do see TSA, there is no way they would have known you keep returning to Colombia, because all they see is the ticket you show them for your next flight along with your ID. So maybe you meant it was immigration.
What do you mean how do you handle the questions? You answer them honestly. It is not like you have been doing anything wrong (unless you have.) You most definitely do not want to get caught in a lie though. Immigration stopped a friend of mine leaving the USA. When he told them he was going to see his girlfriend in Thailand, they made him call her. So if you really don't have a girlfriend there don't fuck yourself over trying to be slick.

Agreed, I see no upside in coming at a person like that who is just doing their job. You never know when someone is having a bad day.
If this is a joke you probably should have changed the wording to make it more obviously humor. If it is not, my advice to fellow mongers is not to follow this, seriously; it will end up bad for you especially if the agent is a woman or worse a Latina woman. If you are black it could end up being your worse nightmare.

Whoever brought up dancing is out of touch. The Salsa scene in any large US City blows away that of MDE.

It's quite a large and interesting world out there, in my opinion.For 4 years I crossed back and forth to Canada 2 times per week for work. 90% of the entries to the US were quick and painless. About 5% were enjoyable. A few questions, maybe a joke or two, followed by a "welcome home."
The remainder were split between ICE agents having a bad day and ICE agents on a power trip. For the ones on a power trip, all they want is to intimidate you. They are looking for any excuse to flex their muscles. My advice, don't give them one.
Keep it simple. "I went for vacation. " If they ask why Colombia, tell them "it's a beautiful country. Have you ever been there?" Tell them you can get a great hotel and eat 3 full meals a day for $50 and still have money left over for the metro. Tell them about the climate. If they ask about drugs, if you're my age "I'm too old for that. " That answer also works when they ask about women.
The "I go there to fuck hookers" approach might work with a few, but if you get the wrong agent, prepare for a very long, unpleasant delay. You're being a smartass to a bully who already despises you and 100% of the power is on his side. He can justify any action taken against you. Why give him an excuse?

If you are in Leticia, then mongering is not the reason why you are here. There are tons of excellent places in Colombia filled with gorgeous chicas and much better weather. However, if you are looking for a girlfriend for the night after exhausting trips to the jungle there are places you can visit here.
There is a place called Excalibur Bar, pink color, one story building on La Frontera (Internacional Ave) between Calle 7 and 8, right in front of the convenience store. There are two places with girls sitting in the chairs in front, bar and private rooms are in the back. It's a short walk from the hotel district in Leticia, no need for a cab, place is fairly safe, even at night. There are several stores across the street and a night food stall. You can also take a cab for 2-3 K from the center of Leticia, if you stay by the river. Talent on hand is mostly brought over here from Medellin and Cali to work for few months, about 10 to choose from, ranging from 4-8. Since there is not much competition cost are far higher than in BOG, it will cost you 80 K and there is not much room for negotiations.
Further down the street as you cross into Brazilian town of Tabatinga are few places on the left as you cross the border, but they appeared dodgy and unsafe. There is a huge local dance parties in Tabatinga if you happen to be there during the weekend, place is called Compra, if I remember correctly. Any cab from Leticia can take you there. 15 min drive for 30 K. It is for sure a sight to see, and if your Portuguese is good you might get lucky.
Stay in Leticia, on Colombian side, much more pleasant then Tabatinga.
Gardenias, just get a city tour from a taxi driver (15 k COP or less) and he will drive you past it. I walked by one night (I was already occupied with a non-pro Paisa I met on a jungle tour) and there were about 20-25 chicas working and maybe 10 mongers. It is important to note that every bar / restaurant / nightclub here is an open-air outdoor affair without air conditioning, and the heat and humidity here is oppressive.
Bought my ticket for Medellin and ready for the plunge. Given there is not much to do in Medellin I intend to take two day trips-one to Laguna de Guatape and the other to Leticia to see the Amazon river.
I would imagine that a town like Leticia that is right on the border of several countries has some mongering activities avaliable. Anyone have an experiences or info to share about Leticia?

My connect in Ft Lauderdale pushed back 4 hrs at least so I don't miss that flight, I'll lucky to get home by 3 am. Send lawyers, guns and money!

You might be better served if you ask if a particular hotel is Chica friendly. Or, just stick with AirBnBs or rentals and ensure there are no issues before you seal the deal with the owner.

Thanks for the advice earlier about whether to stay in Poblado vs Centro. I will be staying in Mansion / Hotel M since this seems to be the most conservative choice for a first timer. I'd like to take some independents from Parque Lleras back to Mansion and I realize it's a cab ride away nearly 1 mile. By your experiences will girls go with you to a hotel they're not familiar with?

If MDE is new and you have none to very little spanish than M makes it less frustrating. If you want to stay where locals stay and can speak decent spanish with minimal assistance than you can stay here. M like all others run by gringos rake the gringos because they know they can. I've noticed that most airbnb rates have gone up since I was last there because they know they can get that rate from gringos and make a decent profit.

Here is the objective explanation. Think of any big city you know. Now think of an upscale section of that city (Beverly Hills, Park Avenue New York, Lakeshore Drive Chicago, Mayfair London). Think of the lower end neighborhoods of those same cities (South Central, South Bronx New York, Southside Chicago, East End London). The difference in lodging costs and distance between the high and low end neighborhoods of those cities is similar to the difference between Poblado (gringo hotel) and Centro. That is why mansion cost so much more than Normandia, there is the additional cost of paying what the owners know you can afford.

I'd like to take some independents from Parque Lleras back to Mansion and I realize it's a cab ride away nearly 1 mile. By your experiences will girls go with you to a hotel they're not familiar with?

For me anyway, I usually stay in the Laureles / el Estadio area, which is close by, but way more relaxed, and quiet.

Get a chicas fb info there, friend her, then find another chica, friend her, and then start friending their friends (especially if you start to recognize other girls from the mansion showing up in their friends list). It will go better if you ask for this info after you session with her though, as she probably will be more inclined to give it to you as opposed to some rando, LOL.

If you walk by many will greet you or give you a definite look. If they are standing in one spot, unless it's in the line to get into Gusto, they are almost definitely working.
I'm not sure why Gusto gets all the attention. I took a visitor for a walk through Lleras last night. Most of the busy nightclubs have working girls on-site. There were about 10 in Hacienda and The SkyBar looked to have more.
If Parque Lleras is your hunting ground, you have plenty of options beyond Gusto.

But I have noticed that Gusto is now giving the working girls a different colored wristband than the.
