Thanks to everyone for responding with all the great information on Lima. The consensus regarding cell phones appears buying a phone either in Lima, or bringing one with you and purchasing a sim card and minutes. I get the impression that Cafe Z and the Hotel Las Palmas are ground zero for the Peru aficionados here. I look forward to meeting up with everyone in a few weeks.

I just got back from 5 days and 5 nights in Lima. And I wanted to share my experiences here since this is where I got a lot of the valuable information that I used when I was there. I'm going to share the good, the bad, and the ugly. I'll be honest. Which will probably lead to several people calling me a douchebag, but I want this to be helpful to others in the future and full honesty helps.
My general goal was to sow my royal oats before I got married. This meant. Bang some broads while in Lima, whether I had to pay for it or not. Knowing me and my shy disposition, this meant probably paying for most or all of it. Which was fine with me.
The first night (Wednesday), I got to my hotel around 11 pm. I went to Pizza Street. As I heard that was where the action was. Not true. Minimal girls. Mostly, it was aggressive hostesses trying to get me to eat at their restaurant. I found it relatively uncrowded. I did meet a Peruana and we went to a couple bars and communicated in my 2 year old like Spanish. We made out, but I realized it wasn't going to go any farther than that and rolled out.
I went to Tequila Rock at about 3 am. I brought back a girl named Romina for TLN for $70. She ended up giving a very good GFE including BBBJ. Her face was a 5, her body a 7. 5. She stayed until 7:30 am. I know some on this forum hate TR. But it was my first night, and I just wanted to go where I knew I could go. I was pleased with how it turned out.

On my way back, I found three chicas on a corner, each asking for 100 soles for 2 hours. I brought back the youngest and most attractive of the three. Face. 7. 5, body. 8. She said she was 19 and her name was Jessie. I recommend everyone stay away from her. Unfortunately, I didn't do enough negotiating up front. We get back to the room and she wants the money up front. She says I can trust her. Like a moron, I looked at her innocent face and thought. Sure, I can trust her. We get going, and she is just going through the motions during a cbj and during sex. No noise. No nothing. She might as well have been dead. Then when I'm nearing completion, I think. Wait a minute, I need to make sure this is 2 hours and not one polvo. Sure enough, I ask her, and she says one polvo and another is 50 soles extra. I think about it and decide to let her go since the experience was not that great. Yes, I was a moron in this case. But even more moronic, I was counting my money a couple days later and found myself 200 soles short from what I should have had. I'm pretty sure this girl took it while I was in the bathroom. If you think I'm a moron now, wait until you see what I did the next day.
On Friday, I decided this was my day for Las Cucardas. It was about 6:30 pm. I tell two taxi drivers where I'm going and they say they won't take me. Strange, I thought. But who cares. I get a third taxi driver who says he'll take me there. This bastard says we're here, and we're in front of Eclipse (same concept as Emmanuelle with the same pricing). I tell him no, I want Las Cucardas like I asked for and he tells me it's too dangerous and I shouldn't go there. Like your typical non-confrontational American, I said fine and got out of the cab and went into Eclipse. The problem was that it was 7:30. Not only were they just setting up, no girls were there. I found this out after I paid a 20 soles entrada (he originally wanted 50. But when I told him no, he mysteriously came up with a 20 soles price). In I go, and there is nothing there. One girl comes out (with a promise of three more coming). They ask if I want to buy her a drink, and I say yes and get a second beer for myself (one was included with the entrada which I had already finished by the time she came out). It was basically a series of lapdances by a girl I wasn't that into. Then I get brought a bill, 42 soles for her drink, 20 for mine. I was instantly over this place. As a friend pointed out, I went to a place where I didn't want to go, paid to go to a place I didn't want to be and spent about 100 soles (including taxi). From there, I left and went back to Pizza Street hoping that on Friday night there would be more options.
There was very little happening on Pizza Street, so I sat down and had a beer. An absolutely gorgeous girl sits at a nearby table and starts up a conversation. Lo and behold, she wants money for sex. After a short conversation, we agree on 200 soles for 2 hours. She said she worked at Emmanuelle, which was believable. Face. 9, body. 9. This time, I did the negotiating up front and even mentioned my previous bad experience from the previous night. And she said she doesn't roll like that. Her name was Jackie, and it was probably the highlight of my trip despite the cbj.
On Saturday, I was out with some of my friends of mine from Lima until very late. Even by Lima standards. It's 5:30 am by the time I'm ready to go out looking for chicas. This is probably not the best time to go out looking. I meet a girl named Betty near the top of Pizza Street. She started at 120 soles for 2 hours, but I talked her down to 80 soles for unlimited polvos. With clothes on, face. 4. 5, body. 6. With clothes off, body drops to a 3. Cbj and sex. Ok, but nothing to write home about.
On Sunday night, my last night, I was with my friends until my very early, early flight. I wanted to get money from an ATM and get a threesome, but I wasn't able to get money in dollars or soles from an ATM with my Citibank credit card.
I have other semi-interesting information. Like getting a cell phone, where I stayed, purchase of Viagra, and purchase of other substances, but I won't include that unless requested.
I hope this will be helpful to people in the future. Overall, I had a great time. Despite some stupid decisions/situations.

I realize that Madonna's not for everyone - but we are open 7 days a week from 8pm to 6am.
Some basic information about cabs in Lima - THEY GET A COMMISSION IF THEY BRING YOU TO A CLUB - and THEY SET THE PRICE.
The cab driver tells you it's 80 soles entrance (or 50 soles or whatever). The club normally makes 10 soles to cover the cost of the first drink (beer or rum and coke) and the taxista gets all the rest!
The clubs, including Madonna can't fight it (I can't get them all to agree against payment) because if you don't pay, you don't get the customers delivered to your door by the taxis - they'll go where they get paid.
The catch - if you ask to go to "Madonna" or wherever - the driver knows he can't claim an exorbitant entrance fee and will try to "insist" on another club where he believes you don't know the entrance fee and he can set the price.
At Madonna, the normal entry is 20 soles which includes the first drink (see above). If it's getting to be 4 to 5 in the morning, you can usually talk the doorman into a 10 soles entry. BUT if you tell them Francisco sent you - the entry is "gratis".
So, if you know where you're going, whether it be Madonna or anywhere else, tell the taxista where you want to go and expect a normal fee less than what the taxi driver might tell you. I don't know all the clubs entry fees, some may charge more when they see a "gringo" at the door, but if you negotiate you may be surprised by the drop in fee.

My friend and I really wanted to get over to your club our last trip down,I have heard it is a great place. Unfortunately it was a short trip and we felt we missed a lot. Of the clubs I visited (no taxi's involved) the cover charges ranged between S/20 to S/70, regardless I am sure everybody here appreciates you waiving your fee. Hopefully will meet you next trip!

Never take a taxi from "pizza street" anywhere! Always have the street address of where you want to go.
Cucardas is fairly safe the surrounding area (at night) is not. Best bet is to hire a Taxista (ie.Manuel) to take you over and show you the ropes. I use Manuel but perhaps others here can contribute names of good taxista's. If personal safety is your concern then you should hire a trusted taxista or off-duty cop to accompany you. Basically S/25 hr. for car and driver and another 10 for the bodyguard. I believe having both are a little extreme for cucardas but it is your money & your safety.

I don't think that Las Cucardas is unsafe in the least bit. Now, the Troc is a bit dodgy, but I've been to much worse places. Sometimes the taxi's don't want to get out of Miraflores, as fares are going to be a bit harder to get.
I had two or three taxi's try the same thing with me. I asked for the Troc, and they took me to Las Cucardas, and told me it was the same thing. Taxi drivers in Lima are not at the top of my Christmas list. In fact, I'd say they're in the bottom 10%.

I have been two both and find Troc a bit safer. In troc you go in with taxi. What I do from Miraflores is take a micro from Angamos to Plaza Vea in Callao. From there it's only a 4 soles ride to Troc. My favorite there is Eva which gives outstanding service for 20 soles.

Continuing on with our Lima experience (good, bad & ugly) we made the obligatory trip to Tequilas and to my surprise there were more Men than Women, which was the total opposite of my prior experiences here. We had one or two drinks apiece and quickly made our selections for the night. Both girls agreed to TLN but the younger one asked to leave at 4am, being tired I allowed her to leave and went back to sleep. Not one of my best experiences other than they both allowed barebacking, one with a facial and the other CIM.
The next morning consisted of a jog to Barranco and back, followed by a few rounds of tennis at that club next to the lighthouse. We lunched at “La Tranquera” over on Pardo and had a really nice steak and a bottle of “Ocucaje” a Malbec-Cabernet Sauvignon.
If you like the “Maipo valley” wines this is mas y menos consistant and offers a very good value at about $6-7 in stores!
That night we had plans to take LB, Rosita and the twins out. As they were now legal we thought we would give them a taste of “Lima Nightlife”. Anyone who knows the twins from Café Z can appreciate how well they can clean up.
We started with cocktails and pequenos over at “Hauringa” which is currently very in. Being in our 50’s with twin 18 y/o hotties brought the usual variety of stares, which was uncomfortable for the girls as they had not warmed up to us as of yet. About 9:30 we headed over to Astrid & Gaston for an amazing dinner and were quite surprised when Gaston himself came by the table and bought us a round. I suspect it had more to do with our beautiful company than my hypnotic personality.
It was only around midnight that our true intentions were revealed as we made our way to the Majestic. I suspect that there are more than a few “craps players” amongst us and as such realize the value of populating a table with beautiful virgins. As is the “norm” for Peru nobody plays craps and tonight was no exception. Every table game and slot machine in the place was occupied but nary a person at the lone craps table.
The first sign of trouble arose upon entry as they would not let the twins in without “cedulas”. Undeterred, the three of us went in while the girls grabbed a cab home to get their ID’s.In the twenty or so minutes it took we had already dropped about $4,000.00 between us and our dreams were fading fast.
We laid out a couple of grand for the girls and the next half hour was agonizing as better than half the time the girls could not reach the back cushion or hit somebody in the head at the blackjack table a few feet away. By this time the twins had attracted a crowd two deep but we were yet to recoup any of our losses.
Around 1:30 as the dice came around for the second time “Lady Luck” shined on our Virgins and rewarded us handsomely until 4.00 am. In AC and Vegas we would have used markers, But what to do with $12,000.00 at 4:30 am in Lima when everyone in the Casino knows you scored and your friends car is parked 4-5 levels down in Larco Mar? While I went into the Marriott hotel to get a room LB and Bill colored up and then sat at Blackjack tables in the VIP section while the girls spread out amongst the slot machines. Once I had the room I went back down to play while we had the twins move the bulk of the chips upstairs. We then called Manuel (LB's driver) to pick up the girls at the hotel entrance while we continued to play. When they were safely away we cashed out our remaining chips went up to the room to crash for a few hours before making our escape.

The difference is you can go to Troc in the middle of the afternoon and there will be plenty of taxis willing to take you there and back.
Cucardas being a evening/night spot, it's usually no problem to get there but you will have to take of of the two taxis - or the only one - waiting outside. Your bargaining position will then be weak and you will have to accept the proposed price. Taxis at night are a different crowd from daytime taxis, they tend often to be stoned and trickier to handle. Still, on the whole Lima is a paradise for going around.

This club was discovered by "hoofhunter" last year and imortalized by Screwedup and his crew!(remember his shootout video on TV a few months back).
Wednesday is "THE" night there as is Tuesday at Bartini. I am not a "disco" person so naturally I would opt for the "bush in the hand". Having said that if "plan A" fails it is a good "plan B" as it pulses till 6-7am. As with any "peruvian club" popular with the "narco crowd" it is always wiser to go in with friends.
The other night we were three Gringo's and a Peruvian girl in a popular restaurant and the "local mafia" made it their business to let us know we were on their turf!

Anyone outhere have any recomendations? It seems miraflores is the hot spot and Surco is to far away. I intend to stay for at least 6 months, studying 4 weeks/travelling amusing Peru 4 weeks X 3. I think it's a better choice than having classes 2 hours a day for the whole period, even if it's much cheaper. Especially during the summer 4 X 4 gives you a lot of time to travel and meet people, at least it was so in Buenos Aires. Surco is a 6 soles ($2) taxi ride each way and about 10 to 15 minutes depending on traffic. So practicality will depend on your budget. I live in Miraflores and frequently go to Surco. No problem.

Music in Spanish keeps waking me up but I am too tired to open my eyes so I keep dozing back off. About noon I finally open my eyes. Romy is next to me flipping through TV channels. After twenty seconds a male desk clerk showed up and we had to show him the drawer where the lady the night before had left the ID. We retrieved the ID and started towards the other end of Kennedy Park where she thought Ripley’s department store was.
She admitted later that she was confused, so we entered the Saga department store which also sells SIM cards. We went directly to the Claro kiosk which was immediately to the right of the entrance door. The representative said that the SIM card costs 30 soles and would remain active for 6 months without recharging. That would work for me. She wrote a code and a price on a small piece of torn paper and said that I needed to pay at the bank of cashiers. When my turn came, the cashier seemed to have problems with my credit card. An older gentleman who was waiting about three people behind me became agitated and thought that he shouldn’t have to wait in line with everyone else because he was in a hurry. They finally got the card to work. I returned to the Claro kiosk with my receipt and the representative opened a new SIM and inserted it in my Quad phone. Romy called the operator to activate the chip for me. They wanted a name, address, and id number. But since I am not a citizen they settled for a name and passport number. It took less than two minutes. Welcome to Claro. The rep said that it comes with 15 soles of time and 100 texts but it would vary depending how I used it. (Claro-to-Claro and land lines use less money/time for talking.) Now a player does not have to spend so much money on the hotel phone or the public telephones.
I stop at a newsstand to buy a 20 soles recharge to add to the phone. The lady who ran the stand asked Romy where I was from. She told her that I was American. I jumped in and told the 60+ year old woman that Romy was American as well. We walked off leaving the grandmother believing my lie. We stop in to eat at one of my favorite Miraflores/Parque Kennedy restaurants. I have a big regular steak and she has to settle for a junior baby beef. Because she did not finish the regular size last time, she knows that she is strictly on kid's portions with me. Add in two Inca Kolas and the cuenta is a grand total of about 40 soles. It is now 2pm and she has to be at work at the casino at 3 for an eight-hour shift. I shove her into a taxi and walk across to the park. I run down my list of non-pros in addition to the pro from TR the night before. Everybody is fucking busy at the moment. Well isn’t that just Murphy’s Law in full effect? But at least I was able to distribute my new phone number. I go look for an internet café and find one for 2. 50 soles per hour.

I stayed at the Sheraton Hotel last year, I never had a problem with “guests” visiting me or staying overnight. I told my guests my room number and they avoided the checkout desk altogether.
IMHO Sheraton Hotel is highly overrated, If I were you I would stay in Miraflores or San Isidro.

Guys. I have stayed at the sheraton many times and have never had a problem inviting a girl to the room as long as they know your name and room number. Also they have a great gym area with "full service masssage available, just ask for the "additional service" cost about $40. Good hunting.

IMHO, there is no good reason to stay in the hotel Sheraton (Central Lima). For the same price you could stay at any of the nicer hotels in Miraflores and be safer and more comfortable.
I would propose that you stay at one of my apartments where you have no problems bringing in women and no extra fees. 24 hr. security / room safe / cable / internet / DVD is among the amenities as well as a personal cell phone for your use. Chica intros can be arranged as well.
Currently besides LB’s Penthouse for $950.00 a week, I have a 1bedroom a block away also on Malecon Balta for $350.00 a week with a roof top pool.
For Budget guys I have a studio in the same building (Ian’s Pad) that I am also managing when he is out of town. It will be available beginning next month and will probably be in the $175/ week range less than a suite at “Maria Luisa” and well known by Lima ladies.

I was in Lima 2 weeks ago and stayed at Maria Luisa. Got a large suite for 120 soles (US$40). A suite with jacuzzi is 140. Totally GF - but one girl at a time. May ask for ID from the girl. Rooms are OK - not much of a view. But I had a very large bed - good for 3 people. You can ask for an electronic safe for your room. Staff is friendly. Free internet in the lobby. Close to restaurants and clubs - great location; pretty safe area. Hotel will arrange for a taxi pick up - 50 soles; drop off is 35 soles.
But the hotel is COLD - the front desk staff was in full winter gear all day long. All the girls I brought in complained about the cold room. Did not make for very good sexual atmosphere when they are crawling under the covers while I was trying to get some action. You might want to try Las Americas. Read the hotel thread - there are lots of suggestions. Mira Flores is the most tourist friendly but also the most expensive.
There are opportunities for incalls using classifieds in papers. These are pretty cheap - can be as low as 70 soles (US$25) an hour. But may need to have a working knowledge of Spanish. Again search the thread for specifics. The main club is Tequila Rock - but the girls there are quite predatory. They all start with $100 and may go down to 60 or 70. Your best bet for maximizing efficiency might be to contact one of the members who lives there. David_33 was very helpful to me - I will post a complete report once I get back home from my travels in August.

I'm not expert on Lima, but I've been to TR enough to know that if you're willing to throw down 150USD at TR, you have a 99.99% chance of scoring and getting close to what you want. The ladies start at 80 or 100USD and go _down_ upon negotiation (that's _down_ in price, I mean...they'll go down on you later in the hotel room). It's like way too much $$ for TR
But if you're staying at the Sheraton downtown, there are other options such as some strip clubs, like Scarletts (I remember a beautiful Colombiana for $120+ there....). Lots of indy's online and in the newspaper, and 150USD can get you a very lovely looking lady. YMMV on the service, of course.

Cafe La Mar- Once Lima's hot restuarant/disco has been closed due to discrimination.
La Sede- Is currently the new "La Mar" with a real upscale crowd.
Aura- Still the place to be on Sat. nites.
443- has gone downhill
Cala- Better in the summer, still happening on weekends.
Old Pub- Some of the older "Gringo's" have been pulling from there recently.
Tasca- The bloom is off that rose!

I’Ve been home for a month, but I think my report is informative, and hopefully interesting. A little about me: I’m in my early 40’s, of Indian background, I live in Canada, this was my first trip to South America, and I do not speak Spanish. I was on this forum for five or six months before my trip to Peru, and I learned a great deal. I saw lots of guys ask questions and then promise to write a report about their experiences – and then they never followed through. I do not want to be that kind of person. I was in Peru for three weeks; nearly all of it spent doing regular tourist things: hiking the Inca Trail, Machu Picchu, the Amazon rainforest, Lake Titicaca, and Arequipa. I spent two days at the beginning and end of my trip in Lima, but I only had one night to get laid. Two of the best things I learned from this forum: stay at the Maria Luisa hotel in Miraflores, and the easiest place for a newbie to pickup is Tequila Rocks.
Like most tourists I stayed in Miraflores. I found it safe and easy to get around. I didn’t find much interest from the local girls – I was ignored just like I am at home. I walked through Park Kennedy on a Friday night and two Saturday nights, and found nothing going on. This was between ten and midnight. There were a lot of locals, and tourists, and police. But I didn’t see any working girls. Perhaps I was walking too fast, or I had to sit at a bench? Nada. I was approached on the street near Calle Pizza, but she was an older (30+) woman. No thanks. Without Tequila Rocks it would have been a one-hander in my hotel room.
I liked the Maria Luisa, the price is right (s/60 for a matrimonial room), and the location is excellent. There is no heating though, and in June I found the room chilly. Around 11:30 on a Friday night I found myself at Tequila Rocks. It’s a s/20 cover, and that gets you one drink. I know not everyone on this forum likes TR, and for some reason I was expecting mostly older, worn-out hooker types, with a smattering of gems. I’Ve been home for a month, but I think my report is informative, and hopefully interesting. A little about me: I’m in my early 40’s, of Indian background, I live in Canada, this was my first trip to South America, and I do not speak Spanish. I was on this forum for five or six months before my trip to Peru, and I learned a great deal. I saw lots of guys ask questions and then promise to write a report about their experiences – and then they never followed through. I do not want to be that kind of person. I was in Peru for three weeks; nearly all of it spent doing regular tourist things: hiking the Inca Trail, Machu Picchu, the Amazon rainforest, Lake Titicaca, and Arequipa. I spent two days at the beginning and end of my trip in Lima, but I only had one night to get laid. Two of the best things I learned from this forum: stay at the Maria Luisa hotel in Miraflores, and the easiest place for a newbie to pickup is Tequila Rocks.
Like most tourists I stayed in Miraflores. I found it safe and easy to get around. I didn’t find much interest from the local girls – I was ignored just like I am at home. I walked through Park Kennedy on a Friday night and two Saturday nights, and found nothing going on. This was between ten and midnight. There were a lot of locals, and tourists, and police. But I didn’t see any working girls. Perhaps I was walking too fast, or I had to sit at a bench? Nada. I was approached on the street near Calle Pizza, but she was an older (30+) woman. No thanks. Without Tequila Rocks it would have been a one-hander in my hotel room.
I liked the Maria Luisa, the price is right (s/60 for a matrimonial room), and the location is excellent. There is no heating though, and in June I found the room chilly. Your experience is not unique. South East Asians are at a disadvantage. They get mistaken for Middle-Eastern/Arabs/Iranians. I am not implying that Middle Easterners etc are bad people but it is hard to fight the perception.
Some suggestions for next time:
-Post your trip dates in advance and hook up with another monger.
-Learn the language. This advice has been repeated throughout this forum.This will enhance your experience.
-If you meet a girl and the experience was average to fair - repeat it. When you meet the same girl a second time, you will be surprised. Loyalty does pay dividends. (This ofcourse assumes you have some attraction towards the girl.)

Tuesday is (Bartini) Wed & Thur(Mama Battata) weekend (Gotica and Aura) You will like Gotica if you are into the rave scene. Sunday is still crazy at Tequilas (La Marina) and Wed Etheria has the crowd you are looking for. Monday is hopeless in Lima with the exception of La Noche in Barranco. (Better off taking a date to the 1/2 price show in the cine bar in Larco Mar.Alot of other bars have been shut down or are not popular right now. The young gringo crowd also parties at "OSO" on Recarraven and "Dragone" in Barranco, but these are not upscale by any means. I was in Lima for five days at the end of the July.
Emmanuelle girls charge 100 dollars or three hundred pesos. For the one hundred, you receive about two hours in time. Once you get a number, you can avoid the club fees. She also volunteered to set me up with some her friends. I was not in Lima long enough to take advantage of the offer. The problem with going in this direction is that it is good for afternoon or early evening fun but they will disappear on you to go to work. If they arrive at the club at 8:30 they work unitl 4:00 AM. If they arrive at 10:30 PM, they have to work until 6:00 AM. Once they leave then what do you do? I went to Club 69.Some of my friends who work at these clubs will "date" you and not go to work if they have advance notice. The $100-$150 clock for two hours does not start until you actually are in the bed. In the meantime you can go to a club or dinner or concert and enjoy their company. I am not recommending anyone, just saying this is the case with most girls from high end clubs.
This is also true with some of the girls from "Tequilas" I might add. Arrangements with them can be made for a "date" first and then stay all night for $80-$100.00. A few guys have LT relationships (week or month) at a discount to these prices.
Keep in mind, Average girls make between $2000-$3000 a month, Emmanuelle and Suites girls $3000-$4000. Girls that travel can get $3000-$4000 a week and there are rumors of oriental guy's taking multiple girls out of Suites at $1,000.00 per girl.

Things seem OK here in my part of Miraflores but I am very worried about friends living in Centro and other areas of Lima. The local news reports it was 7.9, 48 deaths and 350 injured. I can only understand about half of the spanish but the pictures of collapsed buildings, etc. scares the shit out of me when I think of my friends living in those areas.
I've only been able to hear from one of my amigas who lives on the other side of Lima and she is OK. The cell service is still screwed up and I can not get thru to other friends that I'm worried about.
About 7 my apartment started the shimies, I had just sat down at the computer and set a cup of coffee on the table. Being born and raised in California it did not get my attention until the coffee started to splash out of the cup and I could hear things falling and breaking in the apts around me.
So... I decided it might be smart to get out and walked down (11 floors) to the street. Pieces of plaster in the stairway and the overhead lights on 2 levels were out (the fixtures were torn an inch away from the ceiling).
Traffic was stopped and a lot of people milling in the street. I saw no real damage and the buildings all looked OK. I'm sure there is a lot of minor damage and maybe worse in other neighborhoods.
A lot of the locals were really upset - they were talking about this one being stronger than one in 1974 that was a record.
While standing in the street with all the locals I met a chica who had been on the bus. She said when the windows on the bus started to shake and rattle everyone got off! Everyone was trying to call family of friends on their cell so of course the circuits were busy and nobody could get through. When things calmed down I brought the chica up to my apt (elevator was jammed and had to walk back up) to see if we could call her mom on Skype. I got thru to my mom in San Diego but no luck trying local calls in Lima.
Then we got a aftershock and she wanted DOWN and back on the street. So, back down 11 floors and mill around with a bunch of other people who did not want to go back into the buildings.
We walked over to Z and I saw Manuel who was cruising around on a bicycle checking on friends. Alabama, Eli and Lima Busy and Mrs. Busy were at Z.
I put my new friend in a taxi to San Borja to check on her mother and here I am back in my apt. No real damage inside just a few things on the floor and small pieces of plaster on the floor in some areas. My new friend from San Borja was able to call and her house was OK except for things that fell and broke but her mother is not there and she does not know where she is.
I'm in a 15 story building. The building took this real well and swayed back and forth California style. There are horizontal cracks and broken plaster approx. 6" to 18" wide at floor level of all floors. I can look up and down the open area in the middle of the building and it looks like every floor slide around a bit on top of the floor below but I'm sure (I hope!) it was just a bit of flexing. I'll take some pics tomorrow.
OOOps, another aftershock! minor but the 3rd one that I've felt in the last 15 or 20 minutes.

I spoke with a bunch of people tonight and know about LB, ScrewedUp, xxxGoat and Alabama. Shaken, not stirred and all OK. D33 is only one I do not know about. Some housing damage in Miraflores. Central and Northern Lima may have been worse hit than Southern Lima (werid) but they are newer buildings. It has now been classed as a 7.9! Watch for the aftershocks! (All the schools will be closed on Thursday.)
Historical note: In 1970, one of the world's deadliest earthquakes killed an estimated 50,000 Peruvians in catastrophic avalanches of ice and mud that buried the city of Yungay.

Funny, you should mention it! There is a crack (8ft long) in the living room wall.
They use bricks for the walls between rooms and channel the electric wires into them. In this case the plaster came off where the cable ran and it will be repaired and the whole place repainted (manana).
The guys in it at the time were "freaked" and I got them hotel rooms on a low floor. Ian was going to rent Rosita's bachelor pad for the month, but he just got upgraded to the Penthouse (I suspect a party this weekend) and the Penthouse guys will move over to rosita's tommorow after the guys in there now leave tonight.
The next group for the penthouse (Arab's) cancelled this morning, So if you want to come down later this month (I will give you a deal)ja ja.
You are right about Rosita, the whole reason we started renting it out was because she freaks! Currently we live on the Malecon (1st floor) and my medical prescriptions bills are about to go through the roof.

Go! From what I've been read, there was no or very minimal damage in Miraflores and the rest of Lima. Most of the severe damage & fatalities were south of Lima closer to the epicenter. The quake was 25 miles deep so the damage was more isolated to areas closer to the epicenter. Nevertheless, a devastating disaster if you lost your home or love one.

They still have running water and flush toilets (not that the Peruanas do that, though). There may be small aftershocks - but the seal has been popped and you will be OK - more biggies highly unlikely. No known reason not to carry on with your plans.

If you are travelling north no problems, Buses south will have problems between here and Ica for the next 5 days or so(recommend you fly into Cuzco,Arequipa and points south. If we get any aftershocks let the girl fall into your arms like xxxgoat did last night!

It's a little questionable, but it's important to remember that the reason the hobby is so cheap with so many options in countries like Peru is their history of socialist dictators that ruin the economy. So, in essence, international mongers are taking advantage of disasters anyway.
Besides, if you go down to Peru right now to monger, some girl will get however many soles to get back on her feet faster... and if you don't go down out of some moral hindrance, she won't get that money. Moral condescension might just hurt folks. (did I use that word correctly?)
So go down if you want... it's your right, and it does help somebody. You might want to be a little more generous with the street beggars, however. A lot of them might be good hard working people who were seriously set back by the earthquake. Maybe even find an NGO and do a little bit of volunteer work to keep up appearances.

don't go diving underneath furniture, but lay beside a strong piece of furniture , so when the ceiling comes down it will create a triangular space between the floor and the top of the furniture. Luckily many buildings in Lima have an "S" area marked out which is supposed to be safer than other parts of the building. I wonder what it's worth. There is at least some disaster-consciousness in Lima. No such thing in Jakarta for instance. The same quake in Jakarta would kill thousands. Note that being in a district like Miraflores where buildings are of higher quality is not necessarily safer. The nature of the substrate matters a lot. If it's unconsolidated (sand, conglomerate, alluvium) it's bad and judging by the cliff exposures at Marcomar, soft rock is just what we have in Miraflores. Hard crystalline substrate (granite, quartzite, massive limestone etc.) increases the odds that buildings will stand. I wouldn't like to be in Miraflores, not even in the 5-star buildings, when an earthquake this magnitude strikes right under it.

It started with a loud,very loud groaning sound (normally a loud bang).I live on the beach on the first floor and ran outside(next door is a new 20 story tower under final construction)It was my incorrect belief that this noise was the building in the process of collapsing ( it did not). The main barrage was 2 minutes long and the sidewalk was rolling, light post's swaying and then it stopped. The first wave we held on to each other to avoid falling down. The subsequent after shocks (for 5 min or so was much less intense (no noise) and was akin to being on a ship.
As this is reported to be SA biggest earthquake I can tell you it was unlike all the others I have felt.
I answered you earlier, but did not realize Rosita was still logged in (shades of Maria Louisa)so you may think she answered you. I ran into Mary (remember her?) recently and she was looking real good.
Lima Crowd & Friends. It turns out Ian was on a bus near Ica when the earthquake happened. He was stranded and claims had a near death experience but managed to get to Arequipa about a hour ago. He will be back in Lima and staying at the Penthouse in a few days (flights are a ***** with all the tourists trying to get back to Lima).

I doubt they have an immediate way of getting to lima but 600+ is a huge prison break.

What the USGS "Shakemap" (http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/shakemap/global/shake/2007gbcv/) shows is the local intensity according to the "Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale", which describes the subjective effects of an earthquake in a particular area. It's arguably a more useful scale for people unconcerned with geology, as it tells you roughly what the earthquake actually did to people and structures.
In contrast, the logarithmic magnitude scales (such as Richter's local magnitude scale) are related to the absolute amount of energy released by a seismic event (like Stocks Man mentioned earlier), and says nothing about how much of that energy actually makes it to the surface via pressure and shear waves without dissipating in the earth between the hypocenter (actual location of the event) and epicenter (surface location directly above the event).
That is to say it's very difficult to assign an absolute conversion to some "apparent Richter magnitude" felt in a certain location, as an earthquake measuring 6.0 at a hypocenter depth of 20 km will feel very different at the epicenter than will an earthquake measuring 6.0 at a hypocenter depth of 50 km.
I know I'm kinda rambling here, as I'm not exactly an expert on the subject (I've only gotten as far as sophomore-level college Physics), but that's about the best job I can do in explaining why it's hard to say that Lima experienced an "apparent X.y-magnitude" quake.
The data, then, courtesy of the USGS Seismic Station Data List (http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/shakemap/global/shake/2007gbcv/stationlist.html):
Chincha Alta (Chincha Province, Ica Region) and
Imperial (Cañete Province, Lima Region) are both 40.0 km from the epicenter:

So there you have it. The magnitude of the shaking was clearly nowhere near as great in Lima as was the shaking closer to the epicenter. However, it was strong enough to scare a lot of people even in Lima. I hope you found this useful.
And another note: It's more and more rare for earthquake magnitude to be measured with the Richter scale. Now, the "Moment Magnitude Scale" is used, which is very similar, but yields values different by a decimal point or two.

Is there any concern in lima about the 600+ who escaped from the prison in chincha? This could be problematic if they set up a big operation to recapture the convicts. Roadblocks and armed police everywhere, it occured once in the Cameroons after a major escape.
Another problem in the next few weeks could be the shortage of hospital care and emergency health services. Better stay out of harm's way in Lima.

4. Upon what kind of soil is the edificio built (very, very important). This dramatically affects the kinds of measures needed to withstand quakes.
A place can have the tightest codes in the world, but it they're not followed or if inspectors are easily bought off, then the system fails. Buildings built in soft soil are very vulnerable, those on solid rock, like Manhattan, less so.
I've toyed with the idea of buying a place also and want to investigator further but terromoto safety was always in the back of my mind.
If in richter scale, it was an 8.0 at the epicenter, a subjective guess is that Lima got at least a 6-6.5, based on Rosita's descriptions, which sounds a lot like the experiences of my SF friends in the 1989 quake. Amazing that sidewalks can roll, no? Distance may not mean that much also - in the 89 quake, the epicenter was in San Jose, 40 miles south of SF, very similar to this quake (but only a 7.0). However, scientists discovered that the some of the seismic shocks went down, hit a harder layer in the earth's crust, and bounced back up, hitting SF and Oakland. The folks in the marsh area of the Marina district of SF got creamed, the rest of the city was OK. Will never forget the stories of the people crushed under the collapsed Nimitz freeway. Some lived. I don't like stopping underneath overpasses.
I've been to XXXGoat's 11th floor apartment in Lima, and his descriptions bode well for a miraflores structures. Bottom line, any city in or near the pacific rim of fire, is an investment with this risk built in. When I bought my house, I checked into the soil characteristics in my barrio, an important check to do. The question is, can you live with that risk?
My heart goes out to the people of ICA and Pisco.
I've gotta side with Gonzo on this one. Building codes don't mean squat if they aren't followed (and they won't be if they cause the cost of design and construction to get too high), so it might be better not to focus on regulations
Rather, instead of placing your faith in the local government licensing agency (which could never be paid off by cost-cutting construction firms), focus on the structural integrity of individual buildings that you find appealing. Perhaps you could pay a seismologist and/or civil engineer to look at buildings for you. That's what I did here in Los Angeles after the 1994 Northridge earthquake.

I have some firefighter friends who came down with an NGO to build a church in Tacna. After they finished they decided to unwind in Lima for a few weeks.
They were both working during the "Northridge" earthquake and told me for them this earthquake was alot stronger. In fact they were sure it was the end.
I was speaking to our resident "Geophysicist monger" who tells me Lima is built on Granite "which is good news" But a direct hit of 8.0 in Lima is stiil a direct hit and even though my building and alot of newer construction is anti-seismic
and built into the bedrock "We do not use springs or rollers" underneath.
The bigger fear for many is not the earthquake but the Tsunami. The night of the earthquake many of us were at Cafe Z, half-expecting the Pacific to come up Bajada Balta.
While I love Lima and will continue to invest here, it is not a decision to take lightly. Like the stock market or anything that entails "risk",Never invest more than you can afford to lose. I know many guy's that are contemplating it as prices are still tempting (even at 50% growth last 2 years), I think if you can't afford a house/Condo (with land) you are better off looking elsewhere than buying an apartment which could end up having no value.
Some of us are looking into "buying land" and building a condo project in a area with less risk and better climate then say "Miraflores".
Meanwhile, all of us in Lima will still wait for "the big one" that "WILL" eventually come.

Well Bros. I've been in Lima for almost 3 months nowand heres the skiinny:
I love the hell out of it!
The food is delicious, the women are highly approachable and the place is big enough to keep me busy for the year Iwill be here.
Went to Cucaradas, and it was a hit. My overall strrategy was to go between shifts and pick up one as they were leaving, it worked and got a 6 hour session for 50 soles. Nice work, plus she was nice. Its weird because prostitution is not the same here as in the US. Their its made to be dirty and usually mixed with the drug trade but not so in Lima. A regular girl that is down on her luck one week wiill do it and to me its respectablle. As the say "asi es la vida". The US really has a culture of fear and I didn't realize it to the extent that it is until this trip to Lima, I'll probably will never move back to the states, its just too many hangups in the US.
I've visited Tequila rock, both of them, in Miiraflores and San Miguel. The one in Miraflores I was hesitant but went anyway, they are a bunch of certifiable money grubbing pros! I picked one up anyway because of a reccuring hard on, got a TLN foor 250 soles, she was ok but made some disparaging coments about men in a joking way so I don't know if sheell be invited back but she was a great session. The one in San Miguel is a totally diffrent stoory, they acctually dance there! I picked up a two girl session for 100 soles and on another vsisit picked up some non-pro numbers. The two girls session were semi-pros. The place is off the hook I highly reccomend it as opposed to Tequilas in Miraflores. Just catch the "s" combi from avenida Jose Pardo for 1 sole or take a taxi too Plaza san Miguel and tell the cobrador "abajo Plaza san miguel"
I've met multiple non-pros on the street by asking for directions. Its weird you strike up a conversatiion get their number and somehow we end up in bed. Everyday I say "I died and woke up in heaven" this shit is incrediible. I even have regular girlfriend in La Molina, lets face it fellas, mongers need love too right?
I'm spending alot of time in centro de lima. You can find some incredible women their. One of the most beutiful women I've ever done was picked up there for a whopping 20 soles. The session was kinda mechanical but for 20 soles Id pay that to see her naked. I also go into many of the bars down their, my strategy remains the same and it usually works, I talk to them and get their number or I find out when they get off and get a TLN foor about 50 soles.
Havent been to the TRoc yet but I'll make my way there.
I'm planning somewhat of a tour through chiclayo, laberyaque, trujillo. Piura, tumbes, Guayaquill and Quito Ecuador so I'll keep you guys in the loop.

I've been highly successful using the websites, I generally date non-pros with some semi-pros thrown in their. Usually if I do do pros and I try to pay no more that 100 soles total because I date them after working hours or get their number, the sessions are usually longer, they gve more of a GFE and its cheaper. And yes I am a budget monger.

Someone has been bullshittin* you!! Lima has eveything from Museum based kultur to down and dirty brothels. So what do you want to do?? Give us all a clue and we can make suggestions based on your preferences.
You need a minimum of three days for Cusco and Machu Pichu - four is less of a strain.
BTW - if it doesn't work out with the girl there will be several hundred alternatives!

On my first trip to lima I took a bus down to arequipa stopping in all the little towns that got hit by earthquakes. The lines in Ica are ok and there is something called the poor man's galapagos off the coast of pisco where there are seals etc. IMHO I wasn't impressed but did manage to shoot some good pictures(my hobby). You would not be missing much if you did not go this route. I agree that cusco and MP are a must and if you want more culture iquitos is a cool little town but the skirts are in lima. You will be surprised how time flys once you get the hang of it. You will also be overwhelmed by the grandness of lima. Im from new york but lima had me stumped. Do your research before so you dont waste time trying to figure things out .

That whole area is just screwed right now because of the earthquake. I would recommend avoiding it for the next few months. I do not even know if Paracas is still standing!

The biggest problem with Peru is how to split your time. There are so many things to see in the country, it is totally amazing.
No, you wont get bored in Lima for a week. You can chase non pros, pros whatever it will keep you occupied and it wont be enough time. And you will love them all.
But once you get out of Lima is when u will really see Peru. This has been a dilemma for me in my two trips. And will continue to be one for the next few.

I've been doing some research for my upcoming trip so I wanted to run this by "the squad".
I've been reading perutops.com in spanish and have found alot of useful information eventhough peruvian slang is very different from mexican which is what I am acustomed too.
For the most part Im a $50 and under guy.
I think it is important to mention again that next to "las cucardas' is "la nene" it's a good place for an afternoon anal romp. At $13 you cant go wrong.
The trocadero brothel is located next door to two other brothels called el botecito and la salvaje. If you take a cab to one you have the others right there. I just found out that el botecito has mainly women 30 yrs and older which I myself could get into. Then you can walk over to the other two and let the young ones lick the cheese off. A nice way to spend a quality afternoon.
These are real cheapos with las cucardas reeling in a whopping $14 per session I think.
Next there was talk of calle pisagua which is one block from the old san jose brothel. I remember asking for directions to the san jose brothel and being pointed to calle pisagua. I've read the police have since closed this down when they took san jose brothel ? Can someone verify this ?
I then looked in the nightclub section for lima centro. The bars/clubs in the centro have been talked about very little here. I remember the word danger came about when describing them. From plaza san martin you can get to callao and la punta on bus #25. It goes all the way.

It would be better to catch it after it crosses the rio since that area is a little sketchy. You need to look for directions larco/shell/miraflores or chorillos/huayas or barranco/ayacucho. I believe this bus runs down wilson as well to get to miraflores ?
To get to el centro from miraflores do I catch the bus saying todo arequipa or is there a wilson/tacna ave going towards el centro from miraflores ?

As this is my first post I want to thank everyone who is participating in this forum and made it to todays most useful source of information of that kind. And special thanks to SlyOne, who made my Lima-Trip unforgettable.
During my travelling in Peru, I spent 5 days in Lima. I wanted to check the museums and other touristic attractions like the Plaza Mayor, Larcomar and some churches. So my main purpose was not mongering.
During the first day I didn’t do much because i’ve been tired after an overnight bus-trip from Trujillo to Lima. I was looking for a hotel in Barranco (one of the numerous districts). Barranco is known as a party-district which is not so expensive like the high-end district Miraflores. I found a nice Hotel in good location with private room, private bath and 24hours-security for 50 Soles/night (17 USD). It’s called Hotel Bohemia. Right in front of the hotel is a big street (Av. Bolognesi) where you can get a microbus to the centre of Lima (the green one, 1 Sol, about 30min) or a taxi. The party-area with the Plaza Barranco and the famous "Bierhaus" are in 5min walking-distance and a good and cheap Chifa (Chinese restaurant) is just across the street.
Day 2 and 3 were filled with turistic attractions, citytours, the goldmuseum (a must have seen), the nationalmuseum of peru and more.
Well, once i visited a chongo: Las Cucardas. It was just amazing. I got there on a friday evening at about 7 pm. I took a microbus from barranco to the corner Av.Tacna and Av.Pierola (1 Sol) and in the Av.Pierola another microbus (again 1 Sol) which went through the Av.Colonial. Count 9 blocks in the Av.Colonial (starting at the Plaza 2 de Mayo, browsable citymap of lima: http://www.guiacalles.com/calles/index.htm?ID=2226) and you will see in the street on your right side (Av.Treneman 875, between Av.Colonial and Av.Argentina) a house with red neon lights. That’s it. Say to the driver “baja” and he will stop at the next corner. 25 Soles Entrance fee and 50 Soles for a girl. There was non-stop striptease and most of these girls really looked hot. I enjoyed a hot 19year-old chica from the selva (jungle) with big tits and a nice ass. It was the second or third room from behind in the left floor. Absolutely recommendable…
So I enjoyed my stay in lima despite the bad, non-stop-cloudy, cold and rainy weathter.
But the best thing, which will never let me forget lima for the rest of my life, comes now:

Downtown is now officially shut for life and the crowd has been going to La Sede. I was there last night (LB had Vip passes to the fashion show) and we had to leave as it was wall to wall models. What can I say I am vain and 26 and can not compete anymore.
A good little restaurant we have been going too recently is called Patagonia on Calle Bolivar. Reasonable prices, good wine and a mix of steak and pasta. try the Octupus ravioli! This is not Astrid & Gaston but decent food and good service (for Lima).

Muchos besos,With the exception of ¨Downtown¨ everything else is good. Many clubs are closed down one week and open the next for descrimination, noise, taxes, drugs, coinma,etc. Calle Pizza´s is supposed to reinstitute the curfew soon but one never knows from one week too the next what will happen.
Now that summer is coming the costa verde clubs/restaurants will start hopping again. You will be fine in Larco Mar with Bartini,Mama Battata,Aura etc.

Id like to share what Ive done for these past few days. I made it to la nene/las cucardas with public transport so that has been my great accomplishment and Ive recieved loads of information from a taxi driver that knows the ropes.

A hostal in lima can mean a hostal for backpackers etc. or it can also mean a love hotel. A few hooker bars operate with salida fees then the girl takes you to a hostal. Not all hostals in lince have chicas and alot of them you have to call them from ads in the trome paper or certain websites which can be found on www.perutops.com. I would imagine that some of them have normal guests as well.

Tommorow Im going up to pan american norte. Ive been looking forward to checking these two places out. It can be another trocadero/ el boite situation. Meaning one brothel next to the other.
Today was my big traveling day up to the avenida pan america norte which runs through the barrios of san martin de porras and los olivos.
I took a combi from aveninda salaverry in san isidro (2 blocks from my hotel) which took me on a very scenic route up ave. alfonso ugarte through san martin de porras then up the pan america norte. I stayed on the combi the whole time until I reached "plaza metro" right off the pan america norte in las olivos. I decided to walk around and get a bite before I went the rest of the way. I noticed a hostal called "las vegas " and for some reason that name sounded familiar like Id read about it on perutops.com . Does it ring a bell ?
From plaza metro you are very close to " el ovalo naranjal" which is where both clubs/brothels are located. Go back to avenida pan america norte and hop on a combi while asking "el gran complejo/ovalo naranjal" the drivers helper will know what you mean. The cost is 50 centimos (half of 1 sol). Get off at ovalo naranjal and you will be in the middle of knowehere. Dont expect to see department stores or movie cinaplexes. You will see a dirt oval thats it. You will also see a huge wharehouse with a banner saying "centro de espectaculos el super complejo " walk towards this building and right around the corner you will see the neon sign for la estacion. There are some tents selling food etc. but you are on your own in an industrial area with a few transients walking around. Its only a few meters from where the combi left you off. Club anaconda is located diagonal and across the street from la estacion. *I think you need to get off and switch at plaza metro to get to ovalo naranjal regardless if you want a bite to eat at plaza metro or not.
La estacion operates 24/7 this means even sunday but when I got there today at 2pm all the chairs were up on the tables and there was only one girl working. You guessed it I chose her. She was actually a very attractive jungle girl. I read the service was 30 soles just like anaconda but she quoted me 50 and wouldnt budge. This was for 30 minutes. Im 95 percent sure its only 30 but I traveled such a long distance I went with it. There is a hostal you go to next door. Its all tattered looking etc. The sex was all covered. Another option would be to go up there in combi leaving at around 6pm and getting there early enough to avoid night creatures then taking a taxi back(few and numbered). Even better contract with a driver to wait but I dont know if its worth the money. If you can easily bust a nut with a condom mechanical type fuck Id say yes.
Great info on Anaconda. I have been there as well but took a taxi. Combi is definitley far more economical. Also a chore getting a taxi out or there had to walk up to highway when I left.Looks like a place worth returning to several girls there about midnight but had sessioned a little earlier and just for recon that trip. A few cute girls and beer as well as session prices was cheap .forget the exact price. Defintley a place I need to revisit. Probably easier than any other country in LA. Just go online and line up a few girls or if you are the lazy type you can pick them up on the street in the stores, cafes. With 5 million girls in Lima the opportunities are endless.
Outside of Lima, there is a more conservative attitude and it is more difficult to meet them on the street, for these small towns it is always better to meet them online first.

By combi you would take the todo arequipa bus from miraflores then get off on arequipa on cuadra 23. You will see a "chulos" mexican restaurant across the street. You will also see calle pedro conde. Walk down two blocks and look for number 326. Ring the buzzer and a guy will come down from the upstairs apartment and show you inside. I was told there are usually 5 girls there from 11am until 9pm. The rate is 32 soles ($11) for 20 minutes. I was in there longer for twenty minutes I think and had no rush. No bbbj from "susana" and I didnt see any other girls to ask.
Although the sex was mechanical in the sense that there were no special accomodations she did put some effort into it by caressing me gently and letting me suck on her boobs as long as I wanted.

I may have been a little harsh on the "Latin Culture" but this is how I feel. I have been to Mexico, Puerto Rico, Argentina, Columbia, and now Peru. These entire visits where business related so you know I stayed at the best hotels, and had all of my needs paid for by my company. These countries introduced to me to the best they had to offer and I did not like it at all. The culture is weak and lacks substance. Now there are a few things I did enjoy. Ok guys. Finally I made my first trip to Lima. For mongering (AA freq 35k miles) came handy to visit Lima and Medellin. So I split a week in each location to savor the local talent. After a nice dinner (pisca sour/ceviche) I went to the ukkukus club as recommeded by the restaurant waiter. The afro live band show was entertaining. There were a lot of local girls who I feel are available to hang out if you stay there for few days. Also the doorman offered to get me a cute chica for S150 but did not participate, since I was looking for Medellin adventure (will post in Medellin section). I would recommend visiting brasillatatica during your day time escapades to see the Peru cultural shows. Overall I felt safe while in Lima and definitely make more visits in the future.
