I have a question for the experienced mongers on the board. I have never been to prague and have read a few pages and really havent been able to get a handle on what this place is like. Unfortunatly we have a tendency to walk in eachothers footsteps and so it seems like there are only 5.:D
As a general rule the drinks pressure is higher in the inner city clubs, than of those a little out in the suburbs.

As Mandrake has mentioned, most of the inner city clubs are tourist places and yes its expensive drinks and some hastle, but you can always tell the girls to leave you alone and can still have fun.
For non hastle K5 might be your best option as the girls can not come to you without you calling a girl over.
As for getting numbers, this is not too common as the girls will risk getting fired if they 'black escort' they may do this for a regular client they can trust but not usually for a weekend toursit.

I have visited several clubs in Sao Paulo such as Bomboa, but as with anything when entering any club, you must think with your "big" head and not your "little" head. So if you go to the club and the girl wants you to buy her a drink, you either purchase the $15 drink or not.

I am new to Prague, but I can say that Sweet Paradise is my kind of place. It opens at noon, which I like a lot because it is much easier for an old fart like me to get it up early in the day. Rostislav communicated accurately and promptly prior to my visit. He picked me up at the airport for a reasonable fee, and he gave me a bit of a tour of the old city on the way to the apartment. He took me to the currency exchange with the best rates in the city. He rented me a cell phone at below market rates. The apartment itself, for about $61 per day, was huge and clean. I did quite a bit of cooking there, and there was a nice little balcony in the back over an inner courtyard shared by the whole block. I was even able to hook into a wi-fi system from the kitchen of the apartment). The location was perfect, between Wencelaus Square and Peace Square (Namesti Maru, or something like that). Good restaurants and bars were readily available, and there were many privates and a few clubs within walking distance.
I really prefer an apartment to a hotel because I like the privacy: no one who checks out your lady guest. But I have had some trouble with apartments in the past, notably in Buenos Aires last summer when the guy did not show up to return my deposit. Rostislav shows up.
One last thing to tell you about this guy's sense of honesty. When he saw I had a lot of minutes left on the cell phone I had rented from him, he not only gave me a free ride to the airport but he insisted on giving me 100 crowns for the minutes. He did not have to do that.

Just get yourself a good quality map of the whole city including transport. The city is broken down into numbered zones so finding the street is easy when you have the full address. Okay.. I finally bit the bullet and went to Darling's. I have read many reports of the high prices etc..... For the record I have no problem paying high prices. I prefer to make an effortless transaction and get model quality.

Of the three agencies you've listed I've done business with two, AAA Travel C and Charme. The first is highly recommended and the second is not. Kate at Charme promises a lot but she can't deliver, see for example Trippstadt's reports. Much of the following has already been stated in the forum. I thought I would provide another brief summary.
1. The Metro and Tramway are super easy to navigate in Prague. Get yourself a handy map so you know in which general direction you need to go. If you stay short time, get a 24 hour ticket. If you plan to stay close to a week, get a 7-day ticket - definitely much cheaper. Don't forget to validate your ticket on the first trip.
2. Darling Club is great if you like "eye candy" but if you like to keep your hard earned money don't let your little head think for you and go for the overpriced lady drinks and other options offered there.
3. Sweet Paradise, very nice place. Prices are also acceptable. Don't forget to print several copies of the 500Ck coupon for each of your visits. Don't bother to pick your girl from the internet - most probably she is long gone and does not work there anymore. Ages range from the 18 to low thirties. I spent a wonderful time with a 31 year old - 176cm and a "perfect" body. Much better than many of the "overweight" younger girls.

I'm puzzled by this affirmation of Bart9000, so I think I should clarify a couple of things for other members who haven't been to Prague or read older posts explaining the K5 system.
At K5, when you arrive, you receive a chip which is used to pay for the drinks, but also to open the room's door when you enter the room and when you leave it. Time is recorded and, when you leave the club, the time charged is printed on the bill you receive for you to check.
If somebody is not happy with a girl, he should have the guts to raise the issue with the club. Several posts in this forum reported incidents where K5 always took the policy that the client is right (although he may not have been), and confirmed that you can leave the room within the first 5-10mn without being charged anything if something is wrong with the girl. That happened to me more than once but don't trust my words, search the forum for similar experiences. Some more fortunated than myself even got a free second session.
So if someone don't have the guts to talk to the club, I think it's not very fair to come crying in the forum with misleading information. Concerning the premium, it has also been explained time and time again on this forum. When I'm in Prague, I gladly pay it for the services which are not offered by any other club in Prague (or only at a higher price than K5). If you're looking for a quicky which seems to be the case for Bart9000, you're an idiot to go to K5. You can find it at 1/3 or 1/2 the price in tons of other clubs and privates. It's only for the services exclusive to K5 that you go to K5.
Do your homework, RTFF and don't go to the wrong place for the wrong service, and come back to complain.

I will try to be as "objective" as possible.
1) whichever is the club you go to, the service very much depends on the girl. In K5, I agree most girls provide mechanical type of service in many ways close from what you get in Sex Park. First of all (Dan), if what had occurred had been "bad sex", we wouldn't be having this conversation. "No physical contact" would be an imperfect, but more accurate representation.

Much as I'm sure you would like to characterize my behavior in this manner, I can assure you that it isn't accurate (and as mentioned, I was HUSTLED out of the room). This does not really answer your question directly, but might be an alternative.
I learnt my (small amount of) Czech in Prague. Some language schools there do a summer course where you attend for three hours in the morning and are unleashed on the unsuspecting Czechs in the afternoon and evening.
From a mongering point of view I was able to start off at higher end places like K5 and then go cheaper to Dessert, then down to places that had barely any english over a four week period. It was still a struggle, but I was able to manage it. Of course once there, the negotiations were pretty easy.
I would recommend at least three weeks morning study.

Breadman - that's is a "loaded" question. Much of it is hit and miss.
RE: CLUBS - one good thing about clubs is that you get to check out what you are getting and make your selections.
RE: ESCORTS - there are many escort services, some high priced like Prague Bunnies. Many reports show that girls that showed up did provide good service and some had a "bait and switch" practice. Once thing you must remember is that the photos on escort sites are "glammed" up and the girl that shows up may not look exactly like the pictures. Little bit older - little but heavier, etc.

Breadman, note the following comments concerning "privates" shown below in no particular order:
Using www.escort.cz you can get some information about the "general" location, hours of operation and telephone number.
You will have to call up to get the exact address, which bell to ring, etc. Some privates do speak english.
The girls pictured on the site may not be working and/or may no longer be with the private.
If you inquire about a certain girl and get to the location, that girl may be with a customer and you may have to wait or select another one.
Unfortunately I cannot give you any "figures" concerning "hit and miss" - I only visited Beboss and was lucky to find a "gem".

There's a lot of mythology about prices.
In my experience it all depends on what services you want. If you are looking for BBBJ, DFK, for example, you are really going to pay about CZK 1500 to 2000 for an hour. After spending the last 10 days in Prague, I wanted to share my experience so that future travellers can make thier own decisions.
My first experience I posted a while ago and to summarize, I ended up paying over 6000 kc at Escade for a girl who I would consider an 8 out of 10. That was when I turned to this site and asked for help. I would like to thank those who responded to my questions, because they really did help.

The 30 minute price was 3500 and the 60 minute price was 5500, so I went for the 30 minutes with one of the prettiest girls I had even seen. The total cost with drinks and entrance was 4700 kc, but it was worth it. I did try and go back another night, but i did not make it there until midnight. By that time there were tons of guys and you could tell that the high quality was busy.
My last experience I had to choose between K5 or going back to SP. Considering I did not know where K5 was, and I still had 1 coupon left for SP, I headed back to SP around 3:00 in the afternoon. When I got there, there were only 2 girls there and they were not all that pretty. The bartender told me that lots of girls were on thier way and to stay around for a while. I did get a free drink. Vinohrady is in Prague 2 - 15-20 mins from the center by metro/tram.
Liben is in Prague 8 and quite a way from the center, maybe 30+ mins
Troya is in Prague 7 and maybe 20-30 mins from the center.
Of course the times above all depend on how close the apartment is to a tram or metro stop.
From a personal point of view I would not want to live right in the center, everything is more expensive, there are too many people and hardly a Czech person in sight!!

I had a short Term rental apartment in Líben last March and it is 5 stops in a Metro from Mustek and and 4 stops from Náméstí Republiky I would say about 20 minutes:-)
It´s a big plus point that there are number of Trams and Metro´s which run by there:-)
I agree to BMF that living in Prague it is better not to be in the Centrum, it is getting far overcrowded with Tourists:-)

I'd recommend checking out a couple of other areas. One is Karlin which used to be a dive but is being regenerated since the floods and now has some nice property. It's only 3-4 metro stops from the centre on the yellow line or a 10 minute walk. Another is the side of Smichov near the river. Deeper into the area it's a dump and very backward, however the area around Andel is very nice and has seen a lot of investment recently. That's 10 minutes from the centre by tram or on the yellow line it's 2 stops to Narodni Trida or 3 stops to Mustek. Vinohrady is fine but is quite expensive for a residential area. I lived in the part of Vrsovice nearest to Prague 10 and 2 just in Prague 13. That's nice too. 10-15 minutes to the centre on the 22 or 23 tram. 5 minutes by tram to Namesti Miru (green line) or IP Pavolva (red line) and 10 to Karlovo Namesti (yellow line). The trams there are excellent going right through the centre to the old town and castle and in the other direction 5 minutes to Slavia and the huge Tesco.

It might also help if you could give some indication of your lifestyle preferences.
For example, are you going to Prague for a holiday or work? If work, I might suggest somewhere near Metro station Flora (Southern part of Zizkov) or Peace Square (Namesti Miru) as there are quite a few places there and therefore potential customers in the area. It also has quite a few stores and restaurants, hotels, gyms etc etc that cater for locals.
If holiday then do you like the cafe/restaurant lifestyle? Mala Strana area might be nice then. Do you want to be away from tourists in a more residential fashionable area - then maybe Branik. (But the neighbours might complain if you worked there :)
If you go to escort.cz website, they have a map function which also shows the sites of privates and clubs which gives you a good idea of where the work action is if that is your preference.
Most areas of Prague are pretty safe in my view, and so is the public transport system. It is more the question of your lifestyle/work requirements. Being near a metro station would be an advantage because you can get round much faster than by taxi.
About middle of Zizkov, I went there once to the Army Museum. The area struck me as being a bit run down, but not threatening and I felt safe walking. It seemed to be a bit of a working light industrial area, plenty of bars where workers could drink at lunch or after work, but not where they would go with their girlfriends or wives for entertainment.

I also think living close to the city center is a good option and not only because of higher prices in the Old and New Town (Prague 1 and 2).
Vinohrady area (Prague 2 and 3) is very attractive because quiet, green (parks) and close to Wenceslas square by trams and metro (line A) as well as by feet if you live near Namesti Miru.
Look for Namesti Miru, Jiriho z Podebrad and Flora (with his shopping mall including shops, restaurants, cinemas, parking lots, offices)
In the recent years three others areas are developping quiet well :
- Smichov area (Prague 5) with central point "Andel" (several trams and metro line B to the center) : new shopping centers, offices buildings, cinemas, restaurants, bars, hotels, parking lots...
- Karlin area (Prague 8 - trams and metro line B to the center) under reconstruction after the 2002 flood. New flats, shops, restaurants, bars are coming up... As well as the project called Prague Marina (if I remember well) connected to Holesovice and including new offices, housing, shops, entertainement...
- Zizkov area (Prague 3 - trams to the center) is improving slowly with new bars and restaurants, renovated flats...
In future Holesovice area (Prague 7) will face a lifting and may become interesting as well (trams and metro line C to the center).

Thank you very much for your hints. I need an apartment for one year and ideally would like to live in a stylish place with a lot of expats around ;). Near metro station, gym and supermarket. Better in an old renovated building or in a modern building surounded by the old ones. And it's important that this pace is close to the city center, not to pay more than 10-15$ for one way in a taxy when I deside to use it. The budjet around 20000 per month for 50-60sq. meters, better less.

Wouldn't use that site. The agents generally want 1 months deposit and also expect a month upfront and a month deposit. Your best bet is searching the property section on expats.cz where you can get a good flat without paying agents fees and with smaller deposits.
And without an agent how to make a contract with the owner? I guess it will have to be on two languages.

While you are checking out Prague areas - Prague 1,(downtown) Prague 2 (Vinohrady)or Prague 3 (Zizkov) may suit you well, here is another very good Prague site for well it will be obvious to you when you go through it. ;-))

P1, P2, P3 are all on easy subway/tram connections to downtown or anywhere. Taxi not more than say, US $ 10-12 anywhere in the areas.
You can also search for clubs for a wide area.
I would suggest that you search this site for privat and escorts by city area. There are maps for clubs/privats/escorts etc. This will give you a good idea of locations and also then going back to the reality.cz site you can get an idea of areas to live and to ehhm work, if that is of interest to you.

Can't provide you with an update on Ace Privat, HR, but it is worth noting that escort.cz is a great resource for Prague and the Czech Republic, however, if a club/privat or escort is not listed there this does not mean that it is out of business - just that the commercial arrangements with escort.cz may have been terminated or lapsed.

Given that you are going to rent for a year, I suggest that you might take a hotel for a week before you sign a rental agreement. Otherwise you might end up with something you don't like, and a year not to like it in.
Based on your preferences, you might try in order:
Staromestka - near the Charles Bridge. Expensive, but close to everything. Metro stanice Staromestka. One stop from Mustek.
Mala Strana - Just across the river, lots of cafes and restaurants. Metro stanice Malostranska. Two stops from Mustek (Vaclavske Namesti)
Vaclavske Namesti - very touristy, but lots of action.
Vicinity of Metra Stanici Flora - shopping centre, cafes etc bit further out of town.
Karlovo Namesti - plenty of restaurants etc residences might be hard to find
Andel - Modern shopping centre cafes etc. Some parts of this area (Smichov) are a bit run down. But you might find a gem.
You could check out these areas in a day on the tram, and then home in on the various rental agencies in an area that you like.
Further out you might try Liben or Ke Stirce.
The information above is from my observations in travelling around the city looking for love...cough...and after I have found it, trying out the various cafes and restaurants.

Don't you know by chance any lawers in Prague who speak English or Russian and can write bi-lingual contract? Or may be a standard text of a possible contract in the net? I'll stay first week in a hotel and afraid that if I search for apartment from owner too long, then search a lawer, I may pay for hotel much more than a months rent to realtor :(.

Lukasek, I too on a recent trip wanted to get escorts into my room but opted to visit privats.
If you read the forum, the general recommendation is to arrange to meet the girl in the hotel lobby or at some location outside the hotel. If the visit is in the afternoon or early in the evening (when visiting other countries) and am stopped, I always say that she is coming to help me type a report needed for the next day. Otherwise just wallk in like the two of you belong there and do not stop. If there is lot of activity in the lobby, the front desk people generally do not even notice you coming in. As you mentioned tipping the bellboy or front desk also helps.

My experience has been that it is best to have an apartment, rather than a hotel. Simply no hassle with receptions, bellboys etc. Often cheaper than hotel.
