So, my job finally took me to Frankfurt. Had no time for FKK, but I had for visiting the infamous RLD and some massage parlors, here's my report:

1) RLD (Bahnhofsviertel and Breitegasse): basically you find many laufhauses in the same district, but they are a lot dirtier than the ones I saw in Wien. For my Toronto friends,(mostly on terb) after about 15 years of trips to Canada, this year decided to visit especially the FKK clubs of Frankfurt. However, I will be back again to Toronto if not in 2019 yet, next year.

Took 19 hours of traveling to get here from Phoenix. London Heathrow was a big mess and weather delays on the London to Frankfurt hop.

While I had done lots of research on the train system, I love Uber and decided not to hassle with trains, so I took Uber most everywhere. They have always been within 5-6 minutes away and like the app. I don't know a word of German, which is not an issue for Uber since you punch in where you are going on the app. I have had no significant problems communicating in English since it is taught in most school systems here to some extent.

About four months ago booked newer modern Premier Inn hear the Skyline Plaza and paid 498 Euros for nine nights. Neat how you plug your hotel room card into a slot to turn on the electrical. It's simple and intelligent and efficient: you can't misplace your key within the room, and neither can you forget to turn off the lights to save electricity when you head out.

Observations of the city. Huge modern buildings with construction cranes all over building new big modern structures, combined with old look like survived the war buildings.

The street system is even worse than Toronto! You zig and zag all over the place with lots of one-ways and roundabouts.

For those not familiar with German ways. Cash is king, and many places do not accept credit cards. I got some Euros from my bank before I left Phoenix. But see later my frustrating hunt for an English ATM to get more! Significant tipping seems to be kind of an insult like in Asia. Although if pay in cash, rounding up a few Euros is typical. I often eat in the hotel restaurant, which does take credit cards. With no line or option to tip at all. This tipping nonsense is mostly just in the US / Canada with underpaid service workers. I do tip Uber drivers $2, but 20% tipping is unheard of in most of the rest of the world, including Germany.

Hitting the streets.

First stop was FKK Mainhattan. About 30 minutes zigging and zagging and 13 E on Uber. I arrived shortly before 1 PM for their discounted rate. This may have been a mistake since initially only three guys in the sitting area. Although towards 2 PM more gals and guys. The procedure was as expected with a locker key, given towel and slippers. Similar to the swing club I visited in Toronto.

In the HUGE lobby go to an informational booth, but they were of no help other than suggesting another location which I couldn't understand their English exactly but very far away. There are no tellers, just a large bank.

I wander around the streets and find a Novotel hotel. I use to stay at this chain when in Mississauga (Toronto). So I go to the front desk with three nice gals, one of which speaks English well. The top one is much nicer but outside the city near Oase and the second one is a ten minute Tram 17 ride from the Hbf, get off the end of the line it is right there. I actually liked this little RLD. I found the prices to be maybe 5 plus Euros on all from the main RLD for the same services rendered. I think it is worth a trip out to the area around BG if for nothing else just to have a nice dinner nearby (everything is around there).

..........Before taking off my pants fully, I figured this was a bad idea, grabbed my money that I had put on the table, whereupon she blocked the door and told me I needed to pay everything (I hadn't so much as touched her at this point) or she would call security. As to safety the police are everywhere, some even look like junkies; can see wires on some folks if look very closely. Some look like Johns. Yes people try to solicit you to come in to shady places or handouts just go tell them to go fuck themselves; they disappear quickly. I even see the pimps tallking to the police sharing a smoke; no one wants trouble. IMHO the place is very safe.

Hotels all over, all my bookings are in the train station area for this year or up in Gelsenkirchen, Dortmund and Essen but next year I plan to switch back and forth between the Hbf area and the area in and around the Ziel; better food, better stores and the Creampie Express goes Choo Choo to the end of the line to paradise from there as well. If staying a long time plenty of corporate housing with a minimum month rental but I find it easier just to book hotels and inevitably in a month plus times there were be a Messe in town of some kind which is a great time to book up in the NRW but be warned if there is Messe in FFMain and Dortmund plays at home the same time good luck! That is when you book in Leverkusen; Best Western and IBIS both are next to Leverkusen Mitte; from there go anywhere either Luderland or train to Bochum, Dortmund, Duisburg etc.

Last year I stayed at the Leonardo Hotel Frankfurt City Center which was super close to the Frankfurt Central Station. While the room was small, it provided a good starting point. It is close to RLD and while the area surrounding the train station and RLD is slightly sketchy, it didn't feel unsafe. It was surely a multicultural experience. From the familiar Irish pub around the corner to the endless Donar Kebab stands.

There were plenty of folks around at most hours of the day / night and I too agree that foot traffic makes for a safer environment. Just don't be stupid. Don't carry excessive amounts of cash, flaunt anything fancy, don't stagger around drunk and be mindful of your surroundings. Other than that, enjoy the experience. To me, it beats a Marriott with a Starbucks and other big name corporations.

I didn't mean to sound bitchy, I was responding more to the idea of personal taste as empirical evidence. Really, there are a bunch of comments on the steam bath, living room etc and people's opinions are almost as varied as the opinions of the girls. I thought that 'fitness and relaxation' areas in Augsberg were crap but I did pay 25 euros for a 30 minute ≈ massage by a trained / licensed professional and actually it helped me get over my airplane-seat-spasms. I went to both a few months ago, both on the FKK day. In areüsselsheim there were about 100 people there. No lockers, but just a place to hang your clothers. Valuables in a bag. First time in Germany – and this is the prelim report. There are lots of valuable reports already, but I did note certain gaps when I did my research so this is really the report I'm writing to myself – hoping it's helpful to someone in a similar position to me.

The general stuff.

Transport – bought a German rail pass. I did some math and assumed if I traveled around Germany (nationwide) and / or at least made a daily trip out to Sharks etc it would pay for itself. Also, just simpler, one purchase and transport is mostly sorted. I bought one right at the airport Train pass office. Trains made travelling out to Sharks easier, although they do get less frequent after 12:30, with the last at 3:30 AM. Then again, no one ever asked to see it.

Cabs were always available – never had any communication issues and I favored these (no particular reason or advantage, just what I did), but Uber would work just as well.

Accommodation – several cheap options rights near the station – including Ramada, Mercure etc. No specific advice here. Only thought prompt is – if you're more likely to go to Sharks (which I know I will be in the future) there are hotels in Damstradt etc- which may be slightly more convenient, so you can stay at the club till later and walk / cab back to your hotel, and train into the city for day, instead of the other way around – just a thought. Same could apply for the other venues. The city is obviously easiest if RLD is your main target.

Phone – bought a sim card in the airport (terminal 1) but probably much more economics to just make it to Frankfurt main by train, and getting one there. There's not really a need for a phone card before you make it to Frankfurt main, and you'll get a better deal via the larger Telcoms than in the airport.

Money – Cash is king, just good idea to have cash in general. Whenever travelling I always opt for withdrawing straight from an ATM. Some banks refund all ATM fees, or have deals with banks in other country not to charge fees. An ATM will usually give a better rate than any currency converter, including your local bank (even if you know the staff) so this is the easiest choice ever. This is because withdrawals come out at the Visa / Mastercard rate which is wholesale rate compared to banks / currency converters' retail rates. You're throwing away money by exchanging beforehand, including currency cards etc.

Other Activities.

There are a couple of good day tour options, including cheap walking tours, I found this great for the morning – just so there's something else to do.

I actually found there to be a bit of a general lacking of activities in Frankfurt compared to say Munich and Berlin. Far fewer options on Tripadvisor for activities etc. Bar crawls and walking tours seem to be it.

Entertainment.

Now, the proper stuff. I know there are just a multitude of options for Germany. I focused mainly on FKK and visited the RLD.

Year End Status.

Sadly, I am here during the end of year period, which means the activity levels in general were significantly lower (or so I'm led to believe).

I tried looking for some guidance on what the scene is like during end of year (I can't be the only one who wanted to know) – and couldn't find much on the forum, other than answers to my questions. I won't eat into the individual reports by club in this post, but a quick summary is – activity is lower according to everyone I spoke to. However, people who answered my earlier post were spot on. Depending where you're from, and what you're after, there's probably still going to be enough options to keep most visitors entertained.

For example, Sharks had a bit under 80 or so girl (rough estimate) at the Christmas Eve party. Ratio probably wasn't as great as usual (maybe 1:2) but I didn't have issues finding girls I liked, and they weren't too busy with other etc. FKK Palace has less when I visited, probably closer to 20 – but still varied enough that there's probably something viable for most tastes.

Will say, I asked around about the Sylvester / NYE party – and general feedback was, there'll be lots more guys, and the same amount of girls (the ones around currently are sticking around, and the ones who have left aren't coming back till January) so the ratio will be even worse for guys on NYE. When I went back the day after Christmas, the ratios were already worse than during Christmas Party, so can't imagine what NYE would be like. By my second visit, I kept looking around by the time I left, but it was basically the same 4-5 girls I had identified yesterday that I was interested in. There's someone for most tastes, but there may not be that many.

FKK General.

This probably belongs in the FKK General thread, but I think it's valuable to have it together than jumping around too much.

Loved the FKK concept, just makes sense for a lot of reasons. The cover charge for the facilities / food / beverages, is honestly not unreasonable. But, do appreciate that, if you factor in transport etc how long you stay and your experience in the club, may mean this is prohibitive at some points.

For comparison – Sharks was still the second / third busiest / largest club I've been to (behind Scandello in SP Brazil only in terms of venue) – expect it to be as busy / busier at a better time of the year. Prices are slightly better than Scandello but on par with other Brazilian clubs etc (cover to other South American club is much lower – but also doesn't include food etc).

However, I do really prefer the takeout option in South America, and how you can pay circa USD $300 and get a girl for the whole night. Sure, you're asleep for a lot of the time, and it doesn't feel like a good deal, but I like spending more time with someone and them not feeling pressured or clock watching at all.

In the FKK, unless you're dealing with a super unpopular girl – this doesn't make much sense, if they get a couple of longer sessions in, they'll probably earn more than what you would reasonably offer your make for a night, so unless they prefer a lower tempo night with one person, it's a harder sale. The passion was also missing a bit in general, compared to South America, so I can't imagine enjoying my time that much more spending a whole night with any girl anyway.

Probably says more about my taste than anything else – but all girls I spoke to were Romanian.

Service did generally feel various levels of mechanical – while communicating to them in English was fine, I personally found it harder to hold a conversation with them in general, so the overall experience wasn't as social as I had hoped.

Overall – I think much to my own surprise, I prefer South America, I just had better experiences there. This is summarized into the following reasons:

1. Prices in places are generally cheaper.

2. The club scene in places like Colombia can be just as exciting and fun. My personal experiences when I went out in Colombia were great – I did go out with some locals which made the experience much better.

3. There's something fun about the slightly less organised nature of it in South America.

However:

1. I prefer Slavic girls, so some of the girls in the FKK are the most attractive I've seen. One girl was a 9. 5 in my books, which is just a dream come true.

Thanks Manchester Cat for the GREAT summary. Some great info in there. I am in full agreement with your point that once you've had true in-country Brasileiras and Scandallo you can be a bit jaded. This may or may not be valid for areas outside of Frankfurt. But definitely pertains to my last trip to Frankfurt.

Transport: If you don't want a Eurail pass, there are day passes you can buy, and the train station has staff to help you with machines. It was pretty cheap from Frankfurt to the Sharks station (see their website for help with knowing which station to get off).

Taxis. Sharks has a house car that sits outside the door- flat rate. It was there the couple times I visited. Not worth waiting for Uber to save a Euro or two unless you plan to take it all the way to Frankfurt. But I did opt for the service all the way back to Darmstadt main station. P.S. You should keep some 10's and 5's in your wallet, so you never have to deal with drivers who suddenly don't have change.

There is a new Apple Ap (also android) that will turn your phone into a 2nd virtual phone. It's $50 year for a fixed new number and you can chose your area code.
