.....2 hours later came back again in Filis . I noticed in a side alley of Filis, Fokeas where there was a cluster of lights, headed there.
Fokeas: this street is a little bit away from the main scene and therefore the services improves, several full program offers here.

Mongering in other similar low cost brothel areas of the world (Sanur in Bali. If that isn't working for you, basically the closest Metro station is Viktorias (north of Monastaraki and Omonia metro stations).
Once you exit the metro at Viktorias, cross the road and walk through a park with cafes around the edges.
Filis is about 120 metres west from the metro exit.
If you want to ask for directions from someone locally but not say films, ask where Cheiden is.
Once on that street, filis is very close, running north / south. Keep an eye out for the blue street markers.
Entering filis from Cheiden, the first house numbers north are around 66 upwards.

Quick post. Did gamble on a 4th visit. Completely forgot to note down house numbers, names, ages etc this time though.
Returned to Filis. Checked out one place and waited with a local who decided to have a chat (shows how comfortable I've become about later sex). I've been lurking for several years without ever posting. So here goes.

Searched through some review forums (different site) and saw good reviews on Lido Palace although now I'm not sure why. Got there at 11, stayed for 1.5 hours and it was quite horrible. Got swindled for a 60 e drink for the lady (probably the only looker in the place named Olga Russian). I've been in Fillis 2 days ago, and hit a lot of white light doors. Many of the managers were very pushing to get me a girl, but I liked only 1 Bulgarian girl and eventually turned back to that brothel. Went to Fillis Street today. I haven't been here since last summer. There is a lot of good talent here. Girls from Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria, Russia and even one I saw from Greece. Yup, I too put together a comprehensive Google Map for each trip (hotel, sights, food, bars, nightlife, mongering). Your map helps tremendously.
I don't always get a local SIM with internet access. But there's a good app (maps. Me) that you can use for Apple devices. You export your google maps and upload to the app and can view it on the go. The GPS works regardless of connectivity so you can follow your progress as you're moving. Fantastic.
Would be great if there were a collaborative map (like a wiki + google maps mashup) for mongers to pin areas.
The few I've seen are either outdated, influenced by ad revenue or not really that comprehensive.
There's a great one for Germany floating about. However it's TOO comprehensive, showing every tiny brothel / club. Would be great if the maps had a Top 10 list of places to hit.

I have only been 'refused' anywhere once. That was with a Russian girl who was maybe fed up of foreigners who don't speak any Greek. I went back again a little later and put on a nice smiling face and she relented.
(The following comments are my personal experience -- it might be different for others -- I'm Caucasian, clean, reasonably dressed, well spoken though not fluent in modern Greek).
Filis is like monger central. It's a way to get your bearings, Filis, Omonia, Μetaxourgia, and then some decent sightseeing and nightlife locations.
The above are not the nicest areas of town to stay in, but they make it easy to get around for mongering.
The Filis area is quite huge. I find the best deals are in the side streets off Filis (in the direction away from the Metro Viktoria) for several blocks. Just explore a little. You know what to look for and the white lights are the same all over Athens. Daytime deals are my own preference.
Μetaxourgia (crossing the road from the Metro and going towards the town centre) is cheapie central at 10 Euros and so there is less room for complaint perhaps that the service is sometimes poor. But I've had as many memorable sessions there as I have had in Filis and surrounds at twice the price.
As a place to stay, Filis can be rather depressing as much of it is so scruffy in my opinion. If you want something slightly more upmarket and plan to enjoy more than just mongering, my personal preference is to stay near the National Museum and nearby Exarchia. Exarchia has limited mongering options but is a slightly anarchistic area of late night bars and clubs and cafes that are open late and don't cost the earth. The other option is to stay near a Metro as that makes navigation easier and walking less. Omonia has many hotels as well as con artists but if you know how to watch your back you are ok.
Μetaxourgia is just a short walk down the hill from Omonia. Down the hill and turn left at the bottom, just past the double roundabout, for the RLD. (eg a left at Kolonou). Again a large area, not just one or two streets. You are also walking distance from some slightly nicer regular nightlife if you keep on going to Psyrri (some good nightlife and music) or Monastiraki (touristy). You can also walk from Μetaxourgia to Kerameikos (Gazi) which is an expensive and famous nightlife area for locals (the walk is best done in the day the first time); there is also a hot salsa club there if you happen to be a very good dancer! For a complete change of nightlife that doesn't break your wallet, try Thissio. From the station, you can either a) follow the paved road going slightly up an incline and enjoy a beer and meal in a trendy bar or with a nightime view of the Acropolis, or b) walk back towards the city along Ermou which has a more alternative feel to it (always seems to be lots of talent there, but as far as civvies go I have found it better outside of Athens as you need someone who is not in a city rush and speaks decent English).
One problem with relying on maps is that apart from the white light brothels that propagate like wildfire, places move or get closed down a lot. ******** dot com has the best and latest info but is in Greek (try using Chrome to get instant translation). Studios often give first class service and value for money but unlike the white-llght brothels you have to find them. Same for massage places (not all of which give sex but many do). A lot is 'negotiable' in these places: meaning not only will they decide what to charge and for what and how long but whether you are pleasing to them (clean, well-presented, nicely presented and nice manner go a long way). These places are frequented by regular middle-class Greek guys who wouldn't be seen dead at a white light brothel in Filis.

It was slightly less like that in the Fillis / Fokeas area which is 20 Euros or so, but still the conveyor belt nature of the payed sex in Athens was something that was rather depressing for me. First of all thanks to everyone for all the great info. I went to Athens with my ex brother in law in May. Due to all the great info here I was able to hit the ground running. I hit Filos but on 3 separate occasions. Here is my experience.
Philis red light district is about a 7 or 8 block strip with action / houses on both Philis itself as well as the side streets. All casas are marked by white lights. My brother in law who is Greek informed me that Philis means friendship in Greek. Quite appropriate I must say.
Every casa I went to had white girls that when I inquired were Russian. Most were 5's or 6's so keep looking and that 7 or 8 will appear. The old saying of enjoy the journey here fits well so just enjoy the sights going casa to casa and bring a pen and paper and make notes with names and addresses so after you complete the circuit you can return to the one most of your liking.
The 10 minute crash or burn thing gave me some anxiety but what I discovered was this. After you pick the girl they will place you in a room and you will wait for 15 minutes. I prefer upmarket places but you will not find a better deal anywhere else. The women walking around Athens in general are amazingly hot.

To get cash, I bank with HSBC, they have ATM's in over 80 countries if not more. I normally only get money from the ATM machine at the current spot Forex rate for the day. No fees with HSBC. Currently $100 USD gets you 90 Euros. Likewise 100 Euros will cost you $110. I never use the money changers because the buy and sell spread is too significant. In the Foreign Exchange market the spread is only a few "pips. "Whereas when you attempt to buy money from the airport you may receive 81 Euros for 100 Dollars and when you go to sell 81 Euros back to them, they will give you only about $75. So they get you coming and going.
Eating out in Greece has very fair prices. Liquor and wine is very affordable these days.

Greece is odd, there is legal prostitution, however it is very unorganized I have received various levels of service irrespective of the price, my best experience being a 20 Euro girl on Filis. Arrived in Athens this afternoon with a nasty gut infection. So don't really feel like heading out for fun.
However, I'm here. So thought I'd look around at least, popped a Cialis just in case.
Started off closer to where I'm staying. Metaxourgeio, Kolonou, Omonia, Sofokleous, Evripidou. I understood these are the lower end places, and rougher. But they were close. Filis was not.
I left the hotel around 11:00 pm Friday night.
Never mongered here. So my expectation was to find a lot of ground floor brothels with a single light outside (white / red?) and then a bunch of streetwalkers / Africans hanging about.
In truth. I walked for 90 min and saw no streetwalkers at all, no hookers, no brothel area, no nothing. Took a taxi to the top of Filis. I saw on wordsexwiki (or whatever) that there were 3 strip clubs within easy grasp of Filis. (one at top and two a street over to the left). The two on the left were closed (as in no longer in existence). The one at the top had a sign saying 'Studio' - walked in and it was like a nicer bordello. But just like the Filis places. Hit four of the 10 euro houses close to my hotel. Preferred these to the main strip of Filis. (seemed like less customers as well).

Some suggestions.
There's a street called Athinas that gives you a feel of 'real Athens'. It's on the less dodgy side of Omonia Metro and goes through a massive variety of shops, markets, Chinese vendors, mid-range restaurants etc. To Monastiraki Metro at the other end. It is walking distance to cheap shit shops (Omonia), touristy and posher restaurants (Monastiraki end) and once you get your bearings not too far to walk to the 10 Euro brothels (south of Metaxourgio Metro towards the centre) and some decent music venues and even the Acropoli Museum and Acropolis.
Thissio is a sort of 'cool' option though not quite so many trains. Pleasant walk to town. Very nice pedestrianised are, upmarket, where you can sit outside with a beer looking across the the Acropolis lit up at night, plus a cute open-Air cinema. Plenty of good looking (non-pro) women and trendy bars (not too easy to chat them up if you don't speak Greek though but Greek women are quite outgoing and many speak English). Within easy reach of upmarket shops as you head towards town, clubs and so on, late night drinking.
A bit on the wilder side is anywhere near or just north of Omonia Metro which is also super-scam central. Everything from very cheap to fairly good quality shops, busy 24/7 but also an area that most Athenians would tell the unwary not to go. Some SWs, bag-snatchers, refugee / immigrant, or dodgy types.
The 20 euro brothel area is west of Viktoria Metro but the area sucks as a place to stay. There is a trendy, kind of wild area called Exarchia however (look for the National Archeological Museum on the map and it's near there. Slightly anarchist, mix of artists, intellectuals, and smell the hash as you walk past the restaurants. You'd want to be near Exarchia Square.
Another area is Gazi (Kerameikos Metro). Upmarket clubs and restaurants, the 'beautiful people' nightlife, Technopolis, not cheap, but walking distance to a couple of decent studios on Konstantinoupoleos and walking distance to the less salubrious 10 euro brothels.
Most tourists head for the area near Syntagma Square and Metro (close to the ancient sights and the bus to the airport, but although it looks upmarket it also has the usual tourist traps so I don't recommend it so strongly.) Good for a lightning visit to Athens though.
Hope this gives you and maybe some other newcomers a helpful 'starter' on central Athens districts.

I don't use Maestro so no idea. Most places accept credit cards but not all (and only a few working girl houses from what I've seen). It's Euro country, and you can withdraw money from ATMs which have always worked for me. I would take a reasonable amount of cash. BTW the exchange rates 'vary' a lot. Three different exchanges at Omonia have offered me considerably different rates within a few minutes of each other. Main cost is hotels (which are easy enough to book when you get there and check the room first for a better deal). Unless that is you eat and drink in Thissio and Gazi every night or spray money at the lapdance clubs!

A brief visit to Athens allowed me to confirm the information in this thread about Athens. Like a lot of other things in Athens, P6 seems pretty artisanal, with almost everywhere having one or two girls and nothing like the big German FKKs which I'm used to.
