I have now booked my ticket and have read some pages.

Unless it's a very quick visit, the most economical and hassle-free way of travelling is:

* Going home: choose what is most convenient and get a one-way ticket. A one-way bus ticket to the airport from Syntagma (runs all night) or a one-way Metro ticket (but check last Metro times. If using a taxi try to agree a price first.
Trash places: mileage varies. From countless visits, I find the area starting from Kolonou has given me the most memorable times even if it's the cheapest. Try going daytime. It is very convenient and also has many interesting places other than the houses. They are scruffy buildings but that doesn't generally reflect on quality of service.
