VALLETTA, Malta (di-ve news) -- February 13, 2007 -- 1900CET -- All 35 foreign lap dancers who on the night between November 17 and 18 were arrested by the police for performing erotic dancing and committing immoral acts in various nightclubs in Bugibba and Paceville, were on Tuesday cleared of the charges brought against them by the prosecution who argued that their acts were immoral.
Presiding Magistrate Antonio Mizzi first heard how on that night, several police officers were instructed to carry out searches in various clubs across Malta to investigate whether there was any form of prostitution or other immoral acts going on inside these establishments.
That night, 35 foreign lap dancers -- 20 Russians, seven Ukrainians, four Czechs, two Slovenians, one Estonian and a Polish - were all arrested by the police after they were found dancing at the clubs which were all shut down.
Magistrate Mizzi then argued that while the purpose for which the police searches were carried out was worthy, on the other hand, it was not at all admirable that some of these women were not even allowed to change to their normal clothes when they were being escorted by the police. The prosecution said that this was done in order to photograph the dancers so that they can later present the evidence in court, which argument was totally discredited as a "ridiculous excuse" by Magistrate Mizzi who emphasised that every person had a right to dignity and called for an apology and to make sure that this will not repeat itself in the future.
Magistrate Mizzi also added that since the prosecution itself admitted that during the searches there were no signs of prostitution, there was no point in charging these women with running the establishment for prostitution purposes, saying that it was deplorable how the police charged them all to let the court decide.
Magistrate Antonio Mizzi said that this had been a fishing expedition on the part of the police and while evidence showed that some of the women were doing nothing illegal and had nothing to do with the running of the establishments, they were still arrested and arraigned. He also said that given that it was the police superiors who had ordered the searches, then it should have been them to appear in court to prosecute.
Coming to the question of whether lap dancing constituted an immoral act, the presiding Magistrate said that all 35 were all EU nationals who came to Malta out of free will to work and had regular contracts, most as self-employed paid by the establishment.
He then remarked that to him, it was more worrying that there are tangas worn on the beaches where children were present than having tangas worn in establishments which apply 21 door policy guaranteeing that minors are not allowed in.
And before acquitting all 35, Magistrate Mizzi concluded that the morality standards of our society have evolved and we are free to buy or otherwise according to our moral standards.

Have to say the situation is interesting:
I only have seen the SWs so I can't comment on any goings on at clubs, bars, flats or homes. These places seem to be where the best action is.
So the main drag is the same as has been for many moons -Gzira.
You're almost surely going to find something available 24/7.

One of the replies I got showed mistrust in me and refused giving me any information! I am unaware if this happened to other members and I think this is unfair.

although i admit that i return to this forum much like a long unseen dark arts teacher in one of jk rowling's novels, i find the subject of a fellow knight errant in parliament much aligned with my arguments about malta's economic and political policies, justifying this contribution.
one issue that i can suggest is to make the sex industry in malta formally organised and recognised as a taxable activity - i had proferred an economic impact assessment to the forum some time ago on such an idea. with beauties gracing our beds coming from all parts of the ex communist block, it is very likely that malta will become the next luxury location for upmarket tourism, particularly in view of an upcoming cold war between britain and russia. who knows, maybe james bond may even become a more familiar face in malta!

Denis, I have described the sorry state of the street scene in Malta. Gzira will be completely dead in a few years if the proposed Testaferrata and environs project goes ahead as planned. Marsa is constantly being raided every hour and many arrests have been effected the last couple of months.
I just hope that the scene at least moves to flats. The logic is that with EU membership, business was/is bound to increase, particularly with the expected influx of eastern european girls, but, sadly, it seems that this has not yet materialised. There are some rumours which indicate Bugibba/Qawra as possible business happening in flats, but I no one have yet given me any concrete contacts.

The consequence? A whole generation of women who have never invested so much in their appearance as this one. They do their nails to veritable female warrior level. Their hair is regularly blow-dried and straightened. They go for massages, skin treatments, facials, detoxifying stuff, cellulite treatment and yet many of them will have a round of relationships, which are often just free sex for the male, but probably not lasting commitment, or the kind of commitment that is definitely preferable if you would like to have children.
Many men will only admit this is so if you ask them whether they would be happy if their 20 year old daughter was being used in this way by a 40 something man ? Then the penny drops. But men of course can never let themselves see that every girl is a man’s daughter, that girls are not there for their free sexual gratification only, and if that is mainly what they are using them for, Using a prostitute would in fact be a far more honourable way to go about it rather than pretending they love someone they are just using for free sex.

I think you may be doing something wrong. All massage joints are legit (up front) but it usually depends on the individual girl if you are to get anything extra and so you have to initiate matters. I've been to the ones you mentioned and have come out very satisfied. To begin with, when you are asked to undress, strip off everything ...including undies. If you are asked to keep them on just say you don't want to get oil on them and then lay down face down on the couch. This curiously discriminatory piece of legislation was published as a bye-law in Monday’s Government Gazette. Once it comes into force in a month’s time, offenders will be liable to a fine of Lm30.
Even the title – “Loitering in Specific Streets in Ta’ Xbiex” – suggests at a glance that it may be perfectly permissible for prostitutes to ply their trade, so long as the street is not included in the bye-law’s schedule.
Ta’ Xbiex mayor Antoinette Vassallo admitted to MaltaToday that the wording of the new law is less than ideal for the purposes of combating local prostitution.
“The seven streets in question are in fact the worst areas for loitering,” she explained. “But when I originally asked (the central government) for a bye-law to curb this problem, I requested that the law refer also to the surrounding areas as well.”
Vassallo, who resides in one of the unspecified Ta’ Xbiex streets, is conscious of the possibility that the new law will simply force local prostitutes to seek pastures new.
“The moment I saw the law I realised immediately that (the government) had left out any reference to surrounding streets, as I had requested,” she said. “If the problem does spread to other streets as a result, I will have to request a new bye-law that also includes the newly affected streets.”
Vassallo added that the problem of prostitution has always been notoriously difficult for her council to tackle. “Prostitution itself is not actually illegal, because it takes place behind closed doors. The act of loitering is already a criminal offence, but this has not been enough to curb the problem.”
The aim of the new bye-law is to give the authorities more resources to combat a phenomenon, which Vassallo – echoing her husband, Labour MP Adrian Vassallo – claims “is getting worse with each passing year.”
But the new legislation may prove problematic for other reasons; not least, its arbitrary definition of “loitering” as “the persistent presence of any person for no apparent reason, however excluding persons who are carrying out a duty in the specific streets…”
Lawyers who spoke to MaltaToday cast doubt on whether any charges could actually be pressed against either prostitutes or clients on the basis of this definition. After all, most would consider prostitution to be a pretty “apparent” reason to be hanging around a certain area. It has also been pointed out that the streets in question are also home to numerous offices and businesses – including a language school and a number of clinics, both of which often entail the “persistent presence” of students or patients waiting outdoors for their lessons/appointments.
The Ta’ Xbiex local council is today expected to request a meeting with the Commissioner of Police specifically to discuss these and other fine points of enforcement. “The local council cannot enforce this law on its own; that is up to the police,” the Ta’ Xbiex mayor said, adding that efforts to date had not been successful mainly because of the Law Court’s tendency to let prostitutes off with a warning on the rare occasions when they are charged.

Your directions are bang on, I went there yesterday the Thai Girl called me in as I was reading up the charges etc. for a massage. Traffic in Malta can be quite erratic to say the least. Here we (usually) drive on the left. The roads are definitely not in top condition. I would say that within a few hours you'll get used to it (taking the obvious precautions).
For mongering activities a car is useful but it's also good to know that St Julian's is where the nightlife is situated. Thus you'll be bang in the middle. To be honest I don't do much mongering here (I prefer LOS).

In Malta public transport works the following way,
Every route goes to the capital city, Valletta. Then from Valletta you catch the bus to the city/village you want to go.
Overall the timings of routes to popular destinations such as St.Julians are every 10minutes, and the majority of other destinations are about every 30minutes.
Overall it is not bad, however due to the size of Malta having a car is very comfortable.
However a car can be a very pain in the ass if you are going to travel in the popular destinations like Sliema, St.Julians etc... because they are usually full of traffic , and you have a better chance of a falling meteorite than to find parking spaces during the busy times.
If you tell us the destinations that you will be visiting, we can better suggest if you should rent a car or no :)

Three men charged with trafficking in women
Three Maltese men were yesterday charged with encouraging young women from Eastern European countries to come to Malta to prostitute themselves.
Samuel Ritchie, 48, of Kappara, Carol Mangion, 40, of Gzira and Jason Caruana, 27, of Qormi pleaded not guilty to trafficking in the women for prostitution purposes, conspiring to commit a crime and living off the earnings of prostitution on and before Thursday. They were also charged with running a brothel and allowing an Msida apartment to be used as one.
Mr Ritchie and Mr Mangion alone were charged with relapsing.
The men were remanded in custody.
Magistrate Lawrence Quintano presided over the arraignment.
Police Inspectors Raymond Aquilina and Louise Calleja prosecuted.
Lawyers Ian Farrugia, José Herrera and Stephen Tonna Lowell were defence counsel.
