I first went to Voorstraat 17bis in Utrecht, and was terribly disappointed (see my separate post in the Utrecht section). So I was determined to make up for it in the RLD in Amsterdam, and boy did that happen!

I just came back from one week in Amsterdam.
Well, the RLD doen notworth the value. It is 50 euros for a very quick "suck and fuck". This is the factory.

Having been to Holland the last 8 years, I have regrettfully decided to pass on travel to Europe this year. Tranferring to the Euro has made Europe very expensive. My question is, when you guys go looking for a car, be it new or used do you always pay the "SRV" suggested retail value or asking price? I was recently in The Netherlands, Amsterdam. I Found the RLD not worthwhile. Girls look "sad", "tired", and for 50 euros, the experience is "too quick". Maybe i did not come at the right time. Just a few notes to thank everyone for the input on Amsterdam. I will be there on the 26th of April and hope to sample some of the local customs.
Please keep posting all the good information about the RLD and other active local hangouts. If anyone has any information on where I can find some models to work with I would appreciate the input. Regarding the location of RLD, there is an obvious one and a not so obviously one close to it. The obvious one is a tourist trap and any tourist guide will bring his group to see it. Don't know the address but it's by the canal with lots of tourist. Relatively wide walk path. There are two-level converted warehouse with larger window display on the top floor too.
If you follow the locals there and walk a bit you will find the RLD with much better girls. I don't think it's really a separate one but the scene is drastically different. The place has narrow winding walk path with narrow houses and hence windows on both sides. Even more crowded but you can get a very good look of the girls. You 'don't know the address'. Neither do I, but I know where it is. From CS walk straight ahead towards De Dam (Dam Square), you'll spot sightseeingboats on your left, after the last one turn left: BAMMM! This RLD is big and touristy.
You won't EVER get to the Singel RLD if you follow the locals. You will get there if you just ask them! The locals are Dutch, which means they can handle simple questions like that. Singel is, again from CS, on your right, just some 200m away... This RLD is small and less touristy than the big one.
'I think there are more girls there and prettier'. Not true - the Sigel RLD is SMALLER, most people can figure out that a smaller RLD holds fewer women...

I did follow my way from the 'BAMMM' RLD to Sigel without asking. Most of the time if you follow the vibe anywhere you can find interesting places. For RLD is pretty easy. In a good night both RLD are jammed solid with a continuous stream of people. I'm sure many wanted to check out both RLD. If you tour around the windows and sex shops, you will soon notice the human traffic to Sigel. I'm sorry, but I am a regular visitor to A-dam and I have no idea what you are talking about - you seem to be describing different streets, areas and buildings that are in the Walletjes RLD which is the largest and most famous RLD in the world. Singel is much, much smaller. Which is best? Who knows. It's a matter of taste. Many prefer the RLD in Alkmaar for example.
Everyone, the only way to do the RLD is to do the research and cut down on the surprise factor. After reading the posts here, the best place to go is the definitive ignatz site for all things A-dam related. There are maps, a walking tour and a rating system for the sp's in all of the RLD's and even reviews from other mongerers, sort of like consumer reports for sex providers. All of the regular A-dam visitors know it well and contribute.

Honestly I don't know where I'm talking about. If Amsterdam has 3 different RLDs, then it's likely I'm still in Walletjes, the area is within walking distance, and I didn't turn back to the central station first, nor cross any railway.
The area I'm talking about is probably further down near Qudekerk. It could be the access path to the back door of houses. Not only the paths are narrow (two person width) and winding, it also looked like a maze. No idea how large or how small the area is, but I walked around for some time, meeting many more interesting girls than in the wide paths beside the canals. It's not easy to find as I've been there a few times before I discovered it. It's also easy to find as I discovered it by following people without asking. The girls there don't necessary hide behind glass windows nor the spot lights.

I’ve been going to the Walletjes RLD for the past 20-years, so I remember way-back to the Gilder (before the Euro), when one could get a F&S for $15 US, but much to my dismay those days are “long-gone”. The streets are not small and there a couple of streets either side of the canal.
It is true that the locals do use the area.

I have been to Amsterdam twice and I am still confused where Singel is. I am not sure if I've been there or not. I've walked along the canals and alleyways near oude kerk. There are a couple of alleys that are a bit off of the beaten path. Is that singel? Or is it in another part of the city?

Singel is the opposite direction (west) from the Centraal Station as the Oude Kerk and Les Walletjes (the main RLD). I don't have a map at hand, but if one took a right when leaving the station, (once past all the tram tracks and other congestion) I believe Singel would be the third or fourth street he would come across. It's not hard to find, and if one wanders far enough down the street, he will also stumble upon Yab Yum, one of A'dam's best known brothels (though in my last experiences there, quite overpriced for the talent that was present).

If you walk directly out from Centraal Station, look up and to the right you will see the Victoria Hotel, its big and you can't miss it. Walk towards it and make a right on that street "Prins Hendrikkade" directly in front of the hotel. Continue till the first intersection, keep going straight as the street slightly wraps around, continue till you hit the first canal. That's Singel. Go down the canal maybe a couple blocks and on your left you will see a few kamers. Good luck!

Prostitutes in Amsterdam are treated like any other entreprenuer there. They are taxed just like any other business and I'm sure the government does quite well with the taxes but honestly the government/city gets more out of it in tourism dollars with curious tourists and guys going to Amsterdam to see the RLD. These tourists have to stay in a hotel, eat, take transportation, etc.
It's clear to see that many of these girls are obviously in the country illegally. I seriously doubt they all have visas to visit or stay in Amsterdam. According to several websites on the subject even though there are free health services available to the girls, they aren't required to have STD testing done.

For you and anyone else going to A'Dam next time. There is a train station right under the airport which takes you right to the Central Train station. From there you are only a five minute walk to the Red Light District. Most of the hotels are not far away, either. A taxi ride from there will be cheaper than from the airport at any rate. Also, most of the hotels have some sort of bus transport from the airport. There is also a special bus that does a circuit of major hotels from the airport for a nominal fee.
Once in the Red Light district, DO NOT take pictures of the women in the windows openly. Otherwise you may get some thug hassling you. And, as you found out, you don't take pictures once inside, either. It's a major no-no and is mentioned in all the city guides that discuss the prostitution scene.

To that guy who said the RLD was a rip-off: I disagree. I think it's the best deal around. Where else can you pick from hundreds of world-class beauties all right in front of your eyes and negotiate with them before deciding whether to spend your money? It costs more than you'd pay a SW most places in the US but it's much less than you'd pay for escort services in those same places. That said, you have to do it right to get what you want.

Two days ago I visited this area for the first time in my life. Most of the times when I'm in Amsterdam I visit "The Wallen".
This area can be compared to the "Doubletstreet" of The Hague. The prices are lower, but the (flesh-)quality of the women also. Having visited Amsterdam and its red light district a few months ago (End of February 2005) most of my experiences in the amsterdam red light district were pleasurable. Having lived in Amsterdam for 7 years now, I've done my share of RLD women. I've found that - yes - many of the window girls can be quite mechanical, some can be ripoffs and some are great GFE. When the dollar was strong (I still get paid in dollars) the 50 euro paid to 'try' a new girl did not seem quite so expensive. But I have been forced to seek out advice with the weak dollar and be more discerning and to go to girls I know as worth it.
The website www.hookers.nl is a good resource, but only in Dutch - an english speaker can get through it by looking for reviews or 'recensies' by name and checking out the ratings (thumbs up/down, smileys) and it gives street addresses as well as hours that the girl typically works. If a numerical rating is provided, look for ratings better than 8.5 IMHO. The site contains a link to map with rooms by street number for easy reference.
One can generalise by nationality IMHO; Italians and Germans are to be avoided, Eastern Europeans and Dutch girls are typically more friendly and don't 'nickle and dime' you with each item of clothing or service. Often, as their (poor) reputations precede them, Italians and Germans will lie about where they come from.
A few go so far as to do the doggie-style-hand-job trick. Maybe drunk footie fans are fooled, but I hope no one that reads this forum is. Unfortunately, you won't know until its too late. I just stop the session then and there, excuse myself and never come back. This has happened probably 5 times in 7 years.

Some guys will say they get that for 30 euro - I'm sure they do, but not from any girl I'd ever pick.
Typically, you can offer another 25 to 50 euro above inital 50 euro for more time, 2 positions and, if the girl is the type to keep her top on, for removal. This often is an icebreaker as well, letting the girl know she does not have to watch the clock. Many times I've spent 45 minutes on a negotiated 30 minute limit with no complaints. I think Amsterdam is expensive by Eastern European standards, but cheap by London standards.
Unfortunately, some of the best looking women are also the worst performers. I try to go for the women that are 7.5-8.5 in looks rather than the 9.5s (only top non-pros get 10s in my book).
Also, the main RLD contains more women and more choice as expected, but the RLD in 'de Pijp' (Ruysdaelkade) contains quite a few gems. In my experience, I've had a lower percentage of rip-offs in this area.

As being from The Netherlands I would like to say the following: Sportsmen you are right. The Amsterdam windows are in General a rip off. The more experienced Walkers never go to there. They mostly go to clubs or to other Window districts in The Netherlands, like as an example Den Haag. Den Haag is way cheaper and offers more service. Of course it is depending on the girl. Amsterdam is a great place for a guy from the US to learn how much easier it is for P4P in the rest of the world. When I was first assigned to a project in London in the mid 90's I made my first weekend trip to AMS. This was even before sampling the wares in the walks up and others in the London.
Unfortunately this guide was not the same back then and I pretty much explored with limited advice. As I wrote in an earlier post, the window girls are good for a quick release. The whole idea of window shopping makes it exciting.
Once I was exposed to the clubs like Yab Yum and Elegance my whole world was turned upside down. This was a real experience. I visited AMS every chance I could get from London. The travel was real cheap.
Now after visiting many other countries in Europe and the Middle East I have found that there is much more out there. However, AMS still holds a special place in my heart and I still like to return on occasion. Also, the locals are just so beautiful and friendly. I would walk the streets from the Marriott to the train station every Saturday afternoon just for the sightseeing.

Just a few observations from my experience in Amsterdam in September. I read up on most of the posts here and www.ignatzmice.com prior to going, and had a good look around. 4 hours should be plenty of time to get to see a window girl, and since they usually offer about 20 minute sessions you could fit in 2, provided you don't spend too much time wandering around checking them out (which is the part I found the most memorable and enjoyable; the sessions themselves were usually anticlimactic).
There is a train station right there in Schiphol airport. It's about a 20 minute ride to Central Station, and it's a fairly short walk to the RLD from Central Station (I always stopped at a coffee shop on my way, but I'd guess 5 to 10 minutes). It's very easy to find but if you're in a hurry you might want to bring a map. And since the RLD is a popular tourist destination, don't be embarrassed about asking directions, it's not a big deal.

Take the train to Amsterdam CS (the PA system will announce "Amsterdam Centraal"). Get off the train and walk to the main exit of the station. Once you get outside, the main RLD is ahead of you and to the left. Walk across the canal and turn left. Walk a couple of blocks until you get to OZ. Voorburgwal. Turn right. The windows are along this canal and the next, and on many of the side streets. the move is part of a crackdown on crime in the area.
"we're not knights on a morality crusade, and this is intended to target financial crime, not prostitution per se," city spokesman martien maten said thursday. "but we do think it will change the face of the red light district."
the dutch government legalized prostitution in 2000 to make it easier to tax and regulate.
maten said the city was now making use of a new law to revoke brothels' licenses when it suspects operators have used them for money laundering or other illegal financial activity.
"in concrete terms (that) means that those involved won't be able to continue their businesses" after the measures takes effect on jan. 1, the city said in a statement.
but advocacy groups for prostitutes said the move was misguided, since it will hurt the women who act as independent contractors renting space behind the windows. brothel owners said they would appeal the decision in court.
"the biggest problem we have is with pimps on the street, not the people who own the windows," said mariska majoor, a former prostitute who now runs the prostitution information center in the heart of the red light district.
"local politicians don't understand that. because they want to crack down on crime so badly they are acting like bulls in a china shop," she said.
"fat" charlie geerts, who owns 20 buildings in the district and 60 of the windows slated for closure, said he would appeal the decision. prosecutors cleared him of any criminal wrongdoing in september 2005.
"you're hurting a bunch of people who have nothing to do with it (crime)," he told local television station at5.
the narrow streets near amsterdam's center have been known as a hangout for hookers since the city was the hub of a global trading empire during the netherlands' 17th century golden age.

It's very fitting that it's an article from the NY Times, as what is being done to RLD in Amsterdam is very similar to what was done to Times Square in New York 15 years ago. It's safe to bring your kids to Times Square now, but it's not really any fun anymore.
Rizla definitely made the right choice going to the German Border. That's the thing to do if you have the time and the means. Returned to the RLD in Amsterdam after being away for over three years. I wanted to see for myself how much the hobby has suffered. Things have changed. As has been reported elsewhere, Window Girls are scarce or non-existent on the main thoroughfares, but they can be found tucked away in the narrower alleys.
