I, a US national have a decent possibility of being employed by a US corporation and sent to Serbia. Having read the State department sheet on it, I was wondering how rough it actually is there?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'rough'. If you mean, is it a 'hardship posting' in foreign service terms then the answer is a definite 'NO'. Certainly Belgrade is a delightful city to live in. The people are charming, and the girls are gorgeous, even if some of them are "a little on the trashy side". OK, I'm being a little unkind, but there are certainly some very high maintenance, silicone enhanced ladies here if that's your taste. But it really is a nice place to live. Accommodation is a bit pricey if you want a modern apartment downtown (c. 15 Euro per sq metre per month), but eating out is very inexpensive and there are more excellent restaurants than you could shake a stick at. Don't hestitate - just come!

Actually if I were you I wouldn't hesitate a minute.
The country has been at war for long and there is therefore a deficit in men population in this country. There are therefore close to 4 woman for a man in average and 1 to 7 in the big city says my counterpart there.
So it was FOC hunt frenzy for me in March there with a good score in the end.
But being there you will not feel like there is a surplus of women..They are very snobbish, arrogant, cold and materialistic. Forget about getting a lot of sex there!! Also in the clubs the ratio is usually 5 men to every woman.

Airport departure. Relaxed and everyone friendly. Check in time I would say a maximium of 1 hour; at the boarding gate there is more security, do not rush to pass into the immediate boarding area for a flight, the rooms get packed and apart from one or two gates (used by foreign airlines) there are few seats and in winter they are cold and in summer hot.
Airport Arrival. To get a taxi into town avoid the drivers waiting outside customs area (they will want €30 to €40. Equivalent in Dinar. To go to centre) and go upstairs to the departure level and get a metered taxi. It will be about €15 to cente.
Hotels. Book ahead there is a shortage of hotels, Hotel Balkan €90. €130 is good; cheap hotels are €50 e. G Hotel Praag. The big hotels are in New Belgrade. But I've never stayed there.
Restaurants / bars. Plenty and good to excellent food. Steak is excellent, roasted lamb a speciality. Beer is good. Jelena or Nicksico (from Montenegro).
Safety. No problems, just take the same care as you would anywhere.
People. Friendly. English widely spoken.

The "M" is not by any stretch of the imagination a 4 or 5 star hotel, very well located though. The New Belgrade side will be more to you liking for very good hotels. Long waits, an hour plus, in traffic over the bridges can occur getting back to the Old town side and can be a downside. Hyatt is best in New Belgrade as H Ruppert reports.
In town, the Slavija Lux - not the Slavija, is OK a notch below 4-5 star but well located also.
If you do find yourself booking the "M" ask for and book one of the mezzanine suites. Not too much more cost- a bit old world shabby but the bed is on the mezzanine level along with a full bathroom/shower. Ask for a large single bed. A good reception and appreciation from visitors is almost assured on entering the wood panelled room and the narrow wooden stairs up to the mezzanine floor of the suite affords an outstanding view if you are following closely behind the right sort of visitor, Lapin. ;-)) Enjoy.

Hotel M is not very well located, and is not in New Belgrade. Probably you think on Hotel N!!! Small difference, however matters a lot :)
Working in the Middle East and looking for a bit of something different. Noted there's a direct flight to Belgrade from where I am and thus thinking of doing some I&I (intoxication and intercourse) in Belgrade but notice there's nothing current on this board.

Let me be frank.
Just forget Serbia, as well as Bosnia and Croatia.
You will never get any girl from there, if you are aiming above 3 in grade out of 10 (and I guess most of us aim for at least 7 or 8).
I have lived there, studied there, know the language, been there almost ten times now, know their songs, their culture, their politics, whatever, and also have some kind of network there.
But, their women – just forget it.
Their culture, their society, will not allow it.
What we will be offered, if not living there for like 20 years, and really play their slooow game, is "kaka", that is shit.
So, no need to read any more threads about the former republics of Yugoslavia. Just get your bag and leave! If you are there hunting women, so to speak.
I lived in Kiev earlier. And at least in Ukraine – if you have money – you will play with top beauties. Their price setting can be discussed, but that's another story. In Yugo they don't care about your money.

Thanks in advance.Novi Sad is dead in terms of escorting. It would be much better for you to go to Belgrade. It is only 1 hour drive or less by car. Belgrade is the place for mongering in Serbia. Also, a lot of great night clubs are there, night life is much better too.

I am connected & know the mongering scene very well, so for me it is easier to score in Belgrade than in Budapest. For me it is easy in Budapest to as I am a local & I speak Hungarian language. If you're residing in the city centre, it's a bit far from there, so you'll need a car. Of course, the price varies on the prostitute, talking about average here. If you're short on cash, it's a place for you, but beware, never and I repeat never remove your condom! Some people have mentioned here, that some women encourage you to buy drinks without any subsequent request. This reminds me of the Latvian scam. In Riga, Latvia, the lounge bars and the nightclubs hire women to encourage men to spend their money. These women do this all night long. They encourage men to spend their money in the club or in the bar. However, they look like regular customers.
