I do not speak Russian so may have a bit of a difficult time getting around or is using a guide just unnecessary? Do you guys typically stay in the apartments or hotel. Any recommendations would be appreciated
I don't know about a guide to help you pick up girls on the street, but I think there is a role for some of us (newbies) for a guide.
For a start, it is a good opener to use with internet girls - will you be my guide/interpreter? It also provides a mechanism to offer her money without treating her like a P4P. If you are travelling on business, you may be able to expense some of this "interpreter" fee, which subsidizes the whole relationship. You may or may not want to be explicit up-front that this is a package deal - that you will be getting 24 hour service. In most cases, that should not be necessary - either she will assume that from the start, or you ditch her after the first night if she has not responded to your incentive scheme. Then you both get to enjoy the illusion that this is not P4P.
At the very least it gets you a date on your first night in town, with the possibility of romance, and orients you to the city. Also, with many girls you can be direct that you are hunting, and maybe they will help. They have friends, can talk to girls in clubs, etc.
I know a lot of guys here will think this is overkill, and favour a more direct P4P or freebie approach, but for a newbie with limited game, it can be a good way to ease into the action. It worked for me.

Am a newbie in Kyiv but just saw your post and had a few questions if you do not mind. Very experienced in the FSU but never made it to Ukraine so first trip here.

thanks for the info. based on earlier reports i contacted alex, the guide mentioned a couple of pages back and he is helping us with everything. should know today if we are going to use the hotels or not. he is trying to get us to use the apartments (we need 3 rooms or flats) as the quality is supposedly better and price 1/2 what a hotel costs there. we just need descent places to stay, secure, near restaurants and high speed internet, so are open to the apartments if they can provide this.

Basically what really happens in Kiev is a number game from internet contacts. I will give an idea. Everday there are over 500 girls online in Kiev region, sometimes even more. If you send messages to some of them, let's say hot girls comprise 20% of them, you will send 100 messages. Of them 10% minimum that is 10 girls will respond. Of the 10 girls you will easily manage to get 1-2 phone numbers after 5-10 messages. You can meet these girls the same day. Of the girls you meet, 30-50% will fuck. So you can get a new girl everyday supposed you spend 2-3 hours the day in internet. This is how it works but it works for the men who stay in Kiev. Because if you are short time traveller you cannot meet the girls the same day and have to eliminate many contacts, what you foresee will not give quick results. You cannot wait. So the perspective vanishes and then you get a situation where things become more complex and you need to go out and pick up in street as well. i agree with uke boy that it is unlikely that he could score regularly going in cold (no previous contact with the girls) and only speaking english (limiting ability to communicate effectively with a lot of girls), however nothing is impossible.

Rob, there are a few sports bars in Kiev that are good to watch NFL games at. But only Arena and River Palace offer both the games and p4p action. The quality and luster of Arena has gone down quite a bit since late 2003 when it opened. The Arena disco attracts a lot of young student and village girls who want to go to the big city disco. And yes, this time of year places do tend to close early on Sunday, if you wanted to watch the game your best bet was to head to River Palace go to the sports bar and have them tune the game in - I think the Dr and I are going to reserve the same table we had last year for the Super Bowl this year. ;) Things are so out of whack in Kiev during the Holiday season it's hard to gauge anything. Thanks but we got delayed enroute and did not make it to the hotel until 7 or so tonight, Saturday night. To refund or not to refund, this is the dilemma. This is exactly the problem that I mean. Customer and prostitute must comply with the agreement. At last, somebody tells about his bad experiences.
The right behaviour, the behaviour of longtime mongers that I know here in italy, is to ask for partial or total refund about money for sex and money for hotel, if it occurs, otherwise mongers could decide or take prostitute to police or bring back money with the force or have the same behaviour of pimps (you know what I mean).

A little about Ukraine/Russian mentality, when I first moved here nearly 3 years ago I met a young man who spoke good English and told me, I quote "you may in time understand the Russian language and speak the Russian language very well, you will never understand the Russian mind" In my experience this kid "hit the nail on the head".
Before Perostrika there was 9 loaves of bread and 10 people wanted, now there are still 10 people but many loaves of bread, many Ukraine people refuse to move from the past to the present market conditions and forget the basic rules of business (if money is waved under your nose grab it quick because if you don't somebody else will)!
We experience these attitudes everyday in life here, not too sure if you can change it, but you can vote with your feet and go elsewhere?

Well after spending about 4 days working in Kharkov (with no mongering to report except that the door man late at night at my hotel was asking if I wanted girls. Unfortunately your story is somewhat common in Ukraine and applies to other areas of business, not just prostitution. It is right what was said, you can learn Russian, spend years of your life living in Ukraine / Russia but at most you can never claim to understand how russian's mind works. The mentality difference is absolutely vast and it even exists with young people, who never had to wait in those lines for loafs of bread. The issue is that Ukrainians especially have a very hard time grasping such concepts as supply and demand. Again, not speaking about prostitituion only but many spheres of business. They do not understand concepts such as optimizing income based on market conditions at the time.
However, the other thing I would suggest is that it is possible the girl you spoke to simply did not like you. In other words, if a John came up who she liked, she maybe would have quoted a lower price or would be willing to negotiate. This does happen as for many girls this is a part time profession (they are students during the day or whatever) and they suprisingly can be picky with Johns.
What Ukrainians do is to fix an inflated price due to agreement beforehand that bans competition. If a girl insists on 300$, then all girls will do the same because they have agreed on that. Because the girls know each other and know it is better for their buisiness as a whole to keep the price high.
In order to get a lower price you have to introduce to them competition, that is girls from another group which they do not control. The same with taxi drivers.
When they are forced to make competitive offers, all their persistence vanishes and you can get huge discounts because they hate that the other part (not controlled by them) will be benefited.

After the 1st night and recovering from my hangover we headed out to try this city once again.
Started off at a bar/restaurant called 'Chocolate'. Beautiful women inside and very packed. We really just came there to eat which was a mistake because the food was only decent and it was hard to order with our waitress (she did not understand English) and the service was slow. However, I would highly recommend this bar as a great place to start off the evening. Didn't seem to see any working girls, mostly just good looking regular ladies.
We ended up deciding to go to club 'Tsar' after dinner. The club is a very interesting design. It's built into what sort of looks like an old cathedral. When you enter you go down into sort of a cave like atmosphere but very nice. Not that large but still good enough. We started with this large table in the corne which was they said was 1000 HRK (but this money goes towards drinks). We decided this was ok and just to go for it. About 5 minutes later the table next to us (same size) but closer to view of dance floor opened up and we decided to move there. Much better view and what was not know to us. Also a much higher price. They did not tell us until the end but the table was now 2000 HRK. Jesus! Anyway we ended up finding 2 very good looking ladies who joined us at the table and we drank, danced and smoked a hookah! Of course this was fine until we were ready to leave and we saw the bill. Up until this point I was trying to drink expensive drinks (like Chivas 21yr Royal Solute) just to make up the 1000 we thought we had to pay. When we asked for check we were told that we only used 1000 of the 2000 we had to pay. Boy I am on a streak now (and not a good one)! Well in the end we were able to get 2 nice bottles of French wine to take home with us. Still I was not very happy.
So I think it was 6a. M. Now and of course now the girls want to eat. By the way, we were having fun with the girls and we were getting a little action but nothing good to write about here. I was figuring that we wouldn't get much on the 1st night anyway. So we ended up going to a place called "Miami". Now if your in the mood for late night (or early morning) fare then this is a good place. Food was pretty good. But I was exhausted and ready to head back. Of course we tried to get the girls back with us, but they claimed they needed to head home. I was sort of expecting this so I was not that upset. Too tired anyway.
So once again. Night 2 without any luck. I think I am cursed in this country. Probably have to hit to Playboy massage or something to just have some kind of experience here! Not much to report today. After the late night at Tsar we ended up sleeping most of the day away. Finally got out to go watch the football game. Would you believe that The Arena was not showing the game? I even had them hand me the remote so I could look through all the channels. Boy, could this trip get worse? Anyway we went to Premier Palace and checked out their sports bar. Again no luck. Had their conceirge call around 4 places and no one was showing the game. Unbelievable!
We decided to try find the Playboy Massage parlour and had a cab take us to the address. Of course, our luck holds true and we can't find the place. Found the address and even the number that was listed but it was a Toy shop. Hahaha gotta love the irony. Anyway close by where we were was the Penthouse Stripclub. Decided to give it a whirl. A waste of time really but I guess the girls were still pretty cute. Well at least 2 of them were. 1 really gave a great poll dance. I was thinking, man if this chick made it to Vegas she would be rich!
Anyway we still had small hopes trying to get the ending of the Indi game. Went to the Hyatt hotel. The concierge there finally found us a place showing the game. Of course, once again my luck in the Ukraine holds true because we walk in the door about 1 minute after the last play for the Indi game. Heheheh This is actually getting quite funny! In such situations you have to at least maintain a sense of humor on such bad luck.
Well at least we waited to watch the Boys game which I was more interested in anyway. Still waiting to see what happens. 4:31 seconds left and the boys are down by 4 but are driving the field. So far a good game.

Hey, what about the G-men and Dallas..;) The Giants are surging and the Cowboys were going flat - I had a feeling NY was going to win. The Patriots and Giants in the Superbowl? My two favorite NFL teams..what to do..what to do. Yeah, Kiev is a tough city to come in cold. I have some fairly outstanding luck in Kiev but it seems to be exception rather then the rule. It probably doesn't help that this is the worst time of the year to come to Kiev too. Everyone is all partied out after the holidays. Primetime in Kiev is the spring and the fall. Tsar is an old Kiev city motor car maintenance repair building.
My luck in Sevastopol has been interesting to say the least. If I get around to it I might post something about it. Including my midnight drive through most of eastern Ukraine. Poltava, Dniper, Donestk, Mariupol. Wow, when people talk about the gross pollution in the industrial east they aren't kidding.
Bez, look for the world economy to crash when W is leaving office. When we find out what a complete and total mess we are in because of him and his pack of jackals.

Means Small Berries and is a name of a Disco out of the center. There is no metro close and it is located in what many Ukrainians laugh at: Troechina district!
Had a chance to go there Saturday night with my girl and another Ukrainain couple. NICE place, it is actually part of a well known 'chain' here in Kyiv.
100 grivna for a couple to enter, the place was full so we ended up just on the dance floor. Guys, this place was full of women! A quick calculation and I would say it was 70 / 30 % gals to guys. RP has been covered ad nausem in this forum. A couple of years ago it was a good place to meet p4p girls, now that is no longer the case. It's become more of a lifestyle for the girls. Before you used to see couples leaving all the time. Now you occasionally see people hooking up. The pro's have their regulars and they work other clubs too. Had a chance to go there Saturday night with my girl and another Ukrainain couple. NICE place, it is actually part of a well known 'chain' here in Kyiv.
100 grivna for a couple to enter, the place was full so we ended up just on the dance floor. Guys, this place was full of women! A quick calculation and I would say it was 70 / 30 % gals to guys. With that said I went with a ukrainian who at first refused until he found out the owners of the place. Once we got that worked out I got there around 1AM. No 70/30 ratio that’s for sure (sausage fest) and the DJ was playing the worst music I have ever heard. Around 3AM all of a sudden the guys left? Weird but now we where working the 70/30 ratio and the music was the best. Old american rock! I never danced so much in my life. Met a few girls with heaps more looking. Overall. Great place. I will be back next week and update the board.

Bio, while my antics are not very well publicly documented there are quite a few eye witnesses on this board who will vouch that the Cruiser isn't living in a fantasy dream world.
Valeria is more in line with what you should be paying in Kiev. The first time you meet it should be the 'official' $150/hr. After that you should not be paying more then $100 for at least a couple of hours. It's been a long time since I have pulled a girl from RP but I have brokered many deals for people there (hey! where is my cut?). $150-$250 for the night is still a viable price. Heck, the good Doctor got TWO girls for $250, but then again he is the Doctor.
You can verbally dance, jive, write in haiku or whatever but the bottom line is $300/hr gets you first class talent in any first class city in the world. When you pay that in Kiev it just shows money does not mean all that much to you. Which is fine if you are a new Russian and you assign prestige to yourself with how much money you can waste or over spend. But I think that most of the guys who post pictures here are doing it to show off. Not only that the girl is beautiful but also that he got her for $100/night or for free - bragging rights indeed. But hey, if you like to do it, do it. I'm just wondering if you go to buy something at the store and it cost $10 you say no, I will pay $20 for it.
GIA was a good deal when the girls were $60/hr. At $250/hr I'd rather stay in the US if I was going to Kiev to go ho'ing.
My advice for getting really hot girls for free or $100-$150/night is be me. It seems to work really well for me. Unlike Hecker I haven't spent time analyzing my game, trying to improve it or trying a contrived method. I am just simply myself and the girls respond to it. C’est la vie.

most of the apartments use broadband internet from volia, a local provider. you can find out more on http://www.volia.com/, english site available.
the provider is reliable and speed is normally good. make sure the rental company paid its bills, and use a package that allows for the bandwidth you intend to use. also, if you want to be sure that the internet connection will be working, ask them about it once more - don't rely on what's written on the apartment description page.
wifi is now a little more wide-spread in kyiv than for instance a year ago. most of the coffee shop chains that you'll see have it. avoid the wifi spots by radiospot ukraine - to use these spots, you need a scratch card, and it tends to be very hard to get these cards, as all (!) places i've ever tried over the course of a few years now seem to run out of these cards all the time. if you ever find a place that has them, but enough to supply you for the whole stay...!
though my advice is to just not pick these places, there are enough other providers.
you find relatively complete (or sufficiently complete) lists of w-lan spots from across the former su on these two pages, which are usually quite up to date:

you need to read some cyrillic, but since you're traveling ukraine i'm sure you are capable of at least reading the city and country names, so that shouldn't be a problem.
please note that exactly for kiev, both of these sites aren't very complete. mail.ru's lists more places, and all of those are correct as far as i can tell.
a few other places you might want to try:
- restaurant richelieu, in a yard at pl. lva tolstoga, easy to access by metro. the restaurant is in the yard that you enter if going through the tunnel on the left side of the mexx store. reliable connection, pretty good food, and outside of lunch/dinner hours quite empty, so it's a good place for skype conversations.
- the cavern, a beatles theme pub/restaurant at pushkinska street (find teatralna metro station and walk up pushkinska, right-hand side, 100 meters). good connection, convenient during the day, too loud and packed in the evening
- coffee house ("kofe xaoc", where my f is of course supposed to be the cyrillic one), the chain

Having heard such stories and not yet having found my own method, back in the day I tried similar approaches just to test the water and gauge the reactions. Said I was a real estate developer, CNN correspondent, talent scout, even pretended to be a formula 1 race car driver testing tracks for a proposed new F1 course near Nagatino in Moscow. On the latter, in my own defense I was at Night Flight in Moscow and the girls were telling equally preposterous stories about being stewardesses and famous models so I didn't feel guilty.

I prefer (egads!!!) a more honest approach and find it's much more effective long-term to either tell the truth or if you need to maintain a degree of secrecy as I do, tell something that is close to the truth and something you can back up. It's not so much my honest nature, but rather a question of practicality and effectivity. Most important thing is that they see you as a man of some means and as a guy that will have added value for her, particularly that you will return on a semi-frequent basis. Pretending to be Mr.Vuitton collapses like a house of cards pretty quickly. This will destroy a lot of chances for following up on leads on a second or third visit, which is really where you start racking up the yardage and pro bowl stats in terms of fuckage IMO.
The most important factor of all remains communication and personality however. You need to find a way to communicate with her otherwise you'll never be able to push her buttons. When you find those buttons, you'll have to be interesting enough to hold her interest long enough until the drawers come off.

That being said, I have met some of the most drop dead gorgeous birds at the LV and Gucci stores. Most women who shop there are old and over the hill, but occasionally, ms. new mistress will show up. Don't even bother if you don't have the game and the cash bag to back it up. Apparently, a limited amount of clientèle shop at these stores and the staff do remember you. Gucci employee remembered my name from my previous trip there (about 6 months apart). I know the US/London/Paris/Rome stores have all your info saved in their electronic database, but he didn't have time to check as he greeted me upon entering.
first off - high speed internet access. wi-fi is getting to be pretty wide spread. most cafes in the center seem to have it. it's great for making skype calls on your enabled smart phone (i'm never one for lugging my notebook around). also something else that is becoming popular in kiev are usb cellular modems. peoplenet offers a evdo modem and mtc offers a 3g modem. you place a sim card inside them and recharge using phone cards. someone told me the mtc modem costs $200. i have no idea how much the peoplenet modem costs because someone gave me one. seems like a good way to always insure you have hi speed access (a must for me) unless of couse the mobile phone network in ukraine collapses. of course if that happens you'll have bigger problems then not being able to watch youtube video's.
ash, i generally tell the girls i am an international playboy. which considering what i do now is more akin to holding court then dating, i generally met girls now 2-3 at a time. i tell the girls i used to have business in kiev now i don't but i still come back to visit friends, date girls and have borsch. seems to work for me.

I thought I would get a story or two down before I forget about them. As most of you know I generally never write about sexploits. If I did all my time in Kiev would be spent fucking and writing.

I excuse myself and go to the men’s room. On the way back I check out the video games and ponder playing a few rounds of DDR. I get back to the table and the pizza arrives. Julia at this time asks the waitress for a glass of Italian wine. My girl looks at me and rolls her eyes. The machine you are talking about used to have the highest daily allowance in Kiev that I found - you could take out 2500uah in one shot. The machines in Metrograd which has 24/7 security should be ok too.

I use a complicated rating system for non-pros, rating on:
face
body
sex
class
and combining these to form scores for combo and visual. Combo weighs class at half the value as face, body and sex and is more or less a subjective internal rating system.
Visual is more objective and is more of a basic rating for a girl on how others would interpret her. It is based on face and body, with body weighing more than face.
For pros I keep a separate list, a more simple face-body-performance list, as well as noting where and when, nationality etc.
The list is useful in preserving memories and keeping track of activity or in the case of pros, how much I am spending on the hobby. Over time, I have had to adjust it down in terms of rating as the reference pool has gotten larger.
It has yielded some interesting results though, as Russians and Thais scored highest in terms of pros while Russians and Ukrainians scored tops in terms of non-pros.

rating girls is subjective by it's very nature, i already told you how my system works a few posts back. mine is somewhat more objective as it rates girls on which percentage she fits in for her peers, being girls of dating age, from around 18 to 40 or so. top 10% in terms of body? a 9. top 5% in terms of face? a 9,5. only top 30%? a 7. this is of course also subjective, but does allow for some b-cupped 1,65 cuties to at least score an 8,5 if she's gorgeous and well-proportioned. for example i think leg length is important. even a short girl can have proportionally long legs and look great, whereas a tall girl with stubby legs looks simply weird. i rate very few girls above 8,5... and have no 10s.
i combine the face with body score to form a cumalative score, body being more important.

44 is a place for regular, where the crowd depends on who is playing there in the evening. I'm fond of jazz and went there a couple of time to listen to good jam sessions. In these evenings the female crowd was mostly over 30's and absolutely regular. The targets and the chance of scoring are the same you have in a similar place wherever in US or WE. Why not stay in an apartment? I guess if your company's paying then cost won't be an issue but I find that Ukrainian girls often have a complex about coming back with you to your hotel room. They can have a very fixed idea that "only bad girls go to hotels". This isn't true in 100% of cases but it's best to be on the safe side if you chase freebies.

I actually come to Kiev 3-4 times per month on business and on my company's expense note. I always stay 1 or 2 nights and decide to come on a short notice, so arranging for a flat is a little bit complicated (my travel agency just books and pays for Hyatt or any other >5-stars location, but apartment rental seems too tricky to manage also on the fiscal side)
Honestly staying in an upscale hotel has never been a big issue. Girls also think that sexpats use to stay in apartments, while coming regularly on business and staying in an hotel is more credible and interesting in their "scouting" perspective (I almost never score on the first night!). Hyatt does not ask for girls' documents or bribes like other hotels in Kiev, so at the end I can manage :-)

Going to Kiev yourself is about a hundred times easier then what you propose. And if things don't work out you can always hit River Palace.

So first you need to communicate with the british embassy in Ukraine to tell you what papers are needed from your side. The girl has also to communicate with the embassy to be informed about the documents needed. Does she have a passport? If yes, the procedure can be fast provided the translated documents are delivered. In order to raise the chances to obtain a visa you should contact some english lawyer who has office in Kiev as well. I am sure there are some of them. I know many girls who have done this, it's not difficult. If there is anyone here who has known 15-20 people (18-30 yo girls) who tried to obtain a EU visa with a letter of invite and failed please step forward, otherwise shut your yap. You don't need to be a friend of a friend..or brother of the ambassador or whatever, you just need to follow the procedure.

LS GuyLawyers make papers for Ukrainians who want to work abroad all the time.They usually have the proper connections,in fact they know the ambassadors personally.Of course it depends on the embassy.
Anyway embassies may ask for documents even for your tax declaration of previous year.So every privacy gets lost.
An idea is to meet her in neutral place where it is not difficult for her to obtain visa to come like Turkey and Bulgaria.(after Bulgaria entered EU I am not sure about easiness of visa for there) or even Poland.(some people take cheap flghts to Poland and meet their ukrainian girlfriends there).

The only country I know of that is almost impossible to get a visa for girls is the US. With the exception being student girl work visas. It's extremely easy for student girls to get summer time work visa to the US (someone needs to flip the burgers). I don't know why more don't do it. It used to be easy to get a 90 day fiancée visa to the US, but that is one of the many things W screwed up during his reign of terror.
With Ukraine entering the WTO soon look for visa regs to drop a little more with member countries. I'm sure the odd regs Ukraine adopted for stays over 90 days will disappear soon too. They were adopted to prod WTO membership along - so there should be a lot of happy sexpats soon.

The last year I invitedin Italy 2 girlfriends (in separate times of course).
I cannot say anything about UK or US, but for Schengen countries the process to get the visa was quite straightforward, but slow (my girlfriends got visa 45-60 days after the requests). The logic of italian embassy was just to avoid illegal immigration and to be reasonably sure they were going to come back home.
I had to write an invitation letter, specifying where my girlfriends would have stayed and all the details about my home and my civil status (if you are not single and/or divorced this could be quite hard). We had to attach 2 ways tickets receipt and health/accident insurance coverage for the time she was supposed to stay there. Embassy asked also for her printed banking account statement. About one month after the application they scheduled an interview with the girl. My presence was not formally necessary, but I was there to explain situation (she is a friend of mine, I come often in Ukraine for work, we want just to have holidays together, I want to introduce her to my parents and friends, bla bla). In one case my girlfriend had no money or houses in UA, so I had to add a declaration that I was supporting all her needs and show MY balance account together with a declaration where I took responsability about her return to UA. That's it! I did not ask for any help/favour to anybody in the embassy. In both cases I asked just for a 3 weeks visa.
I haven't direct experience, but I was told by embassy employee that invitations from universities or associations are the easiest and fastest way to get a visa.
I've arrived in Kiev last Monday evening and left today in the morning. Given the short time and the fact that is not admissible to stay in Ukraine without at least one hit, after a working dinner I went straight to RP to chase a hottie.
I had to be at work early in the morning so I stepped in and tried to cut a deal with the first girl I liked after a couple of minutes. She asked for 300 EUR immediately and I was fine. But I had not EUR cash so I asked for quotation in Hrivna. The girl said that in Hrivna the rate is 3000. Crazy enough for me! I tried to explain that the exchange rate is different, but she was seriously convinced she was right. So I laughed a bit and let her go.

Many people in Ukraine do not know the difference in rate between euro and dollar. Actually in the beginning they did not trust euro at all, now when dollar is constantly devalued towards grivna they start to suspect dollar. For the average ukrainian 50 euro and 50 dollars have the same value. He uses the 5 to 1 convertion rate. So it is always wrong to pay in euro. They do not regard it as hard currency with more value than dollar. It is better to convert euro to dollars or grivnias before paying.

First off, anyone else get the latest issue of the Kyiv Post? Front page; looks like Erik Ainger skipped town owing some investors about 300k. The investors tried to file criminal charges against him but the police could not find him. Even though it's common knowledge he is in Odessa trying to do a little clubbing and conning there. So the investors filed civil charges against him. Gotta love the Ukrainian legal system. He's missed the last two appearances he was supposed to make. When contacted by the Kyiv Post he said he would show up to court - with a lawyer if he can afford one or to defend himself.

The only country I know of that is almost impossible to get a visa for girls is the US. With the exception being student girl work visas. It's extremely easy for student girls to get summer time work visa to the US (someone needs to flip the burgers). I don't know why more don't do it. It used to be easy to get a 90 day fiancée visa to the US, but that is one of the many things W screwed up during his reign of terror.
With Ukraine entering the WTO soon look for visa regs to drop a little more with member countries. I'm sure the odd regs Ukraine adopted for stays over 90 days will disappear soon too. They were adopted to prod WTO membership along - so there should be a lot of happy sexpats soon.

Few sharks made a lot of money with the right put options in Wall street.
Ukrainian banks are not yet the best deal for institutional investors, but some of them will be soon. Retail sector is quite healthy in both insurance and banking sectors. Corporate is still high risk.

I know in Boryspol someone grabbed one of my mobile phones, but its my own dumb fault for packing it in my suitcase and not carrying it on the plane. I had 4 phones, so I figured I didn't really need to carry all 4, and it would be safe to check it.

What doesn't make sense about your story is, why would they only take out your memory card, but not take the fucking video camera. To go through all that trouble and leave the camera??

I agree 100%, but already had my heavy SLR and 3 lenses, a laptop, another video camera, 3 phones, hat and gloves and assorted papers in my hand luggage. Fucking weighed a ton. I just figured what the fuck. The video camera in my checked in luggage was a small Panasonic, the kind that records directly to SD card.
I was also bewildered by the fact that only the card was stolen. When I opened my bag, the camera was OUT of it's small leather case and lying with the memory card compartment open on top of my clothes.
I have no explanation why they just took the card.
I told a friend and he said it may have been customs and how they sometimes check camera memory cards but then put them back and that maybe this one was forgotten. Then again, there was no notice that the luggage had been searched. I've had luggage searched before and is marked as searched.
I really don't know, but gone is gone.

Every so often, in Moscow and Kiev as well as points in between, a "biznessmen" is shot to death. They all give the reason as something connected with his business affairs.
The sex business is one that attracts the real mafia, be it the Rada boys, the police or the real "mafia" criminals or all of the above. I would not want to mess with any of them.
Unless you have a death wish, you should only visit the brothels and not try to own them or a dance club or anything remotely related to the sex business.
Besides, killing you would be easy and fun for them. In any case, they would take their money afterwards once they took control of the business you just lost when you departed this world.

There is such a thing here as a "roof" this is the terminology.
What is basically means is you must take a partner to make things run smoothly.
You have the choice of the local "businessmen" the police or members of the Rada.
In my experience a selection from all of the above works best and as a foreigner you don’t need to offer any full time allegiance to any of them as long as they are % partners and should you discuss and agree on this % from the very start and you stand on it you wont get any problems.
You pay your money thats the way it is, a couple in the back of the head? its not the 90's anymore the stories you read are people who are connect show alliance and dont pay.
In the bad east I have many very interesting business partners, and in Kiev different ones as the guys in Donetsk have no real control over Kiev and it’s the same the other way around.
But open a strip club? why? Its the same as owning a brothel, it wont get you free girls as your staff will leave very quickly as they are there to make money not give it away.
Q, even in the West settling differences in organized crime businesses such a strip clubs and nightclubs with violence is not unusual. In the FSU it is hardly a tool of last resort. And Q, fucking the owner/manager of a strip club for whatever reason is quite common wether it be in the West or the East. In the FSU if the girl gets to keep 50% of the money she generates (drinks, sex) she is doing well. Hiring for sex is a fairly common practice in the FSU - and it still goes on in the West.

During a flying visit last year I visited the former outfit, but there looked to be a limited choice only.

I've been coming to Kiev since 2000. The dating agency scene has changed, and changed!
My take is that a vast majority are PROFESSIONAL DATERs! Just out to have a nice dinner, get a present, lunch, etc. Some are even paid to see YOU!
We need to remember, times are better here. AND many girls. DON'T WANT TO LEAVE!
