I stayed at the President a number of times before switching to apartments, thanks to meeting CruiserD. My rate at the time was $150 USD, although this was a couple of years ago. Some people I know preferred it over apartments because they took credit cards. If you have never been there, here is my opinion:
The lobby is a nice place to hang around and drink some Stella beer. Unless they changed it, the lobby was the only place where internet access was available, although expensive. There is a casino in the basement which is generally empty. The health club is decent, albeit even hotel guests have to pay extra for it.
The rooms are typical small boxes, although most have private balconies, which I like. TV is crap, amenities are crap.
The lobby bar is populated by a set of older semi-pros run by a mamasan who hangs out at the bar every night from about 8pm to whenever. Some of them are actually pretty hot. There was a blond working there who I always wanted to try, but when you are with coworkers, you may as well hang a sign on your neck if you engage. Rates were $200 USD for one hour, and sometimes as low as $100 if they liked you. Keep in mind that the security staff takes as much as 50% of that 'salary', so they don't have much room to negotiate. Very low key. If you see one you like, invite her for a drink and she's yours. All are fluent in English, as well as other languages.
As far as location, this hotel is a short walk from the Arena central square. You don't need a taxi to get to Kreshatik (sp?). There also is a 24-hour liquor/grocery store at the bottom of the hill, and cheap cafeteria-style food right near Fridays at Arena where many students eat (good for people watching).
What i don't know is how it would go with bringing in girls from the outside. The lobby security is fairly creepy and I wouldn't put it past them to stick their hand out.

I also have a friend there that owns a club.
A 6 day visit with $1500.00 for drinks & food and also some fun...well,if you break that down your talking about $250.00 a day.

I know the title itself will make you scream 'RTFR'. Well, i have gone back 8-10 pages and all that i find is that there is a lot of info on sponsoring and their approx costs. You see, i have to come to Kiev in the 3rd week of January for 5 days and want to know what kind of temperatures should i expect and most of all do the cold temperatures limit our hobby of mongering? Will it be harder to find ladies in clubs? From the previous FR's (up to 10 pages back) all i know is that River palace (or RP as it is commonly known) is the only place to find ladies. alconizer is right, kiev is no longer an easy monger spot - perhaps it was a few years ago, but after 2004 or so, the good days ended (I never experienced them, but did experience Russia in those days).
Thing about Ukraine, and Ukrainians, even with total economic meltdown (griven now at 8 per dollar), they are so proud and stubborn that they have it ingrained in their heads that they are stars after having had a few years of good times.
It will take a long, long time of economic depression for that stardome perception to ware off, if ever.
Personally, I'm bailing on Ukraine for at least a year. Will rethink after that.

Prices are still generally quoted in grivna which is a major plus for all of us right now. This has almost halved the cost and may well drop further.
I know the notorious agency Gia quotes in dollars (and uses a 6 grivna exchange rate if you are paying in grivna).
I certainly hope that no one else or at worst very few others quote in dollars or euros since that would then have the undesired effect of raising prices.

In a ideal world, yes the economy should be with the steel prices, but even at the hight of the prices the Ukrainian economy was just about getting the steel workers wages put back into the economy.
All the major steel producers have Swiss and English companies used for the export trading. These are the corporations used for all export transactions, and they have been "buying" from there own steel mills for roughly the same price for the last 5 years at least, and the money received for the steel within Ukraine has just covered running costs.
The hit on the economy is at the worker not the owners, and so they worker will loose his job, or get lower working hours and lower wages.
We employ over 6,000 people in Ukraine, and every one of them has been and will be paid, and will work full time throughout this bad economic times, We will not short change them on dollar exchange (since we pay them in grevna equivalent) and we will not lay off one person, we can do this as we have always been ready for such a hit, and planned for it.
The "businessmen" here where never businessmen they were just lucky to be in the right place at the right time. Or just have the biggest army to snatch what they could back in the dark 90's.
We plan to expand our interests throughout 2009 and have already bought 3 businesses off such businessmen in the last 3 months.

May be you are not all so informed, but just today 1 € = 10.95 UAH, nearly 11 and it will be even worse, much worse in my opinion. Ukraine’s economy is falling totally. I guess it will be one of the countries in Europe with the worst recession. Mind also that this gives export opportunities with low workforce cost, but only well managed companies can get out this tuff moment. And most of UA owned companies are not well managed.

No seriously, as much the financial crisis is a tradgedy for the savings of the Ukrainians I think most of us will have lost a decent amount of money last year. Also I found that there was a certain arrognace in UA. People wanted to get too rich too quickly. Prices were sky rocketing in a country with no substantial economy. Of course there are hard working people there but I assume most of those "biznismen" got rich through stealing, fraud, corruption and making "deals". And now this bubble bursts. So if the crisis brings everything down to a normal level it's only fair. It puts Ukraine back where it belongs. And when I see all those expensive cars in the streets I am pretty sure that most of them where financed through credits and leasing.

Apt cost me $160US for 4 days that was summer of '07, doubt it has changed much if not cheaper.
RP is expensive I didn't partake, part-timer offered $150US and something tells me if I had taken her up on the offer, I could have had her for the rest of the week for very little outlay overall, including overnight.
I would say your value is going to come from the part-timers you find in places like Shooters.

And I have not been in RP for a couple of years, because I go thru Odessa.

Two other guys I worked with found their bank accounts were hit after using ATMs down around Arena, so I was aware of the situation of card/pin cloning. Knowing this, I tried using cash machines up around the embassy area, which is far less dodgy than K-street. I also used the ATM inside the Rio, so I can't pinpoint which one is compromised.
At any rate, about 5 weeks after leaving Kiev, I just got home from a trip to Mumbai to find my bank statement showing about $7000 lighter than it should be. Checking the automated banking recording, there were $430 withdrawals done daily. Of course I shut down the card immediately but then had to go to the bank the investigate. When the bank manager and I looked at the transaction history, we could see all these withdrawals coming from 3 different machines in St. Petersburg (I have never been there). In addition, we could see the few legitimate withdrawals I made in Mumbai on the same days as the Russian transactions.
US banks seem to be quite unfamiliar with this sort of theft. They forced me to provide a notorized affidavit swearing I did not make those withdrawals and swearing that I did not lend me card and pin to a friend. They could not believe it was possible to clone numbers, nor did they find it unusual that a person could fly back and forth between Mumbai and St Pete every day for 2 weeks. I provided my hotel invoice from Mumbai which clearly showed room service and taxi charges itemized throughout the stay.
A few days go by before the back office informs me that my claim is rejected because the "Russian Federation has provided proof" I was physically using my card in St. Pete. Oh really. I never did see what this supposed proof was.
In the end, I had to provide pictures of my passport entry/exit stamps from India before they grudgingly approved my claim (and paying up). Had I not coincidentally been in a foreign country while Ivan was cleaning me out, it would have been more like a 'prove you don't have a sister' situation.
So be careful out there.

Not particularly related to Ukraine, but reflecting a trend in Ukraine and Russia IMO, is in increase in both petty and violent crime. A lot of Russian friends have reported this to me and statistics show it as well. In recent visits I've noticed more bums on the streets again, more aggression on the subways.

Thats exactly the reason, why I never use ATMs in UA or RU.
Being an IT guy, I know about these tricks already for years.
I always pick up my money from a human cashier within a bank. The few $ I pay on top for this I consider insurance costs.
I never use a downtown central ATM. They are almost too dodgy.
However, I do tend to use ATMs only at banks and bank branches outside of Khreshchatik and the Maidan area that is used by locals. If you see a lot of locals using the ATM, it can generally be considered safe. Knock wood but I have never had a problem in all my many years here while holding to this method. I never ever use a stand alone machine or some machine not fixed into a bank branch.
Also, just to be even more careful since queues tend to be the norm here waiting for the ATM, I only use the Russian language instructions on the screen. That way, anyone behind me will think that I am just another local.
Even if you do not know Russian, you might want to check out that as your preferred method since it is not at all different from the English version. I do local language versions when I visit other countries where I do not know the language. It really is just a rote technique and can sometimes help you stay out of possible trouble.

Just to make sure if I ever ran out of money, I recently tried 3 ATM's. One was outside a drugstore on the street next to the second level train station in a big city, one was a little stand alone cash machine inside a brand new "Costco" style wharehouse store on the airport expressway from Boryspol into the city, and the 3rd one was simply on the main walking street in a big city, but I'm pretty sure I'd seen some locals using it before.
I guess I'm an idiot, since I deliberately avoided the ATM one block farther down main street that had a big line, where are the locals were, at the CENTRAL STATE BANK! But I will remember your advice when I go back!!

Some time ago, had the same ATM theft occur to me, in Kiev.
As with other poster, the actual withdrawals tooks place in Russia (where I hadn't been for several years).
I eventually got the money back, but had to go through lots of hoops (with Citibank). The Citibank reps made a hoopla of the fact that I didn't file a police report. They were downright indignant about it. I responded, "I had my American bank ATM account info stolen in Ukraine, and funds illegaly withdrawn in Russia - should I file my report in Russia, Ukraine, or the US?...and, by the way, if your answer is Ukraine, do you have any idea how fruitless it would be to file such a report with the Ukrainian police? If, in the process of filing the report, the police squeeze bribe money out of me, will you cover that too?"
They eventually backed off :)

According to a report in today's Vedomosti.ru (a jv with WSG and FT) real estate and auto dealers in many parts of Russia have returned to this format.

The other night I was out with 2 other Americans and 3 young ladies. We were in center early around 6:30 pm and then went to metro Livobreshniv area to a 'dive' casino I know (I like it because I win! )

Other than that a local bank account is dicey considering the extremely shaky state of local Ukrainian banks. It is a big risk since you would want to keep enough money in there for hobbying but balanced off with the idea that you could lose it all. Deposit insurance here is a joke.
The other thing is have you seen what queues there are at local banks to pay bills and make deposits? How much time out of your life do you want to spend being a dead sheep waiting for your turn with the teller? That is also not to mention the paperwork that needs to be done to get your money. You will also get a local ATM card if you open an account but that defeats the purpose of this exercise.
This is not a western banking system or customer service by any means.
No matter what concerns you have about your ATM card, it is still the best alternative if you take normal precautions and not be paranoid.
Besides, no matter what headaches there are with your bank in recovering any stolen monies, your chances of recovering them are still better than opening a local account.

A couple of weeks ago, we discussed the possibility of the old y.e. system coming back.
According to a report in today's Vedomosti.ru (a jv with WSG and FT) real estate and auto dealers in many parts of Russia have returned to this format.
I suspect now it will not be too much longer before Ukraine catches up to this changeover and the sex business in both countries reinstitutes it once again.

1) Yes - multiple agencies, as well as some independants. As pointed out, when you click on 'friends', you'll see all the girls with the same phone number - that's an agency.
