In answer to your questions:
Avg Monthly Wage?
In the Ukraine I think it is about $600usd. However, in Kiev it is much higher. Also, once you start travelling in the "western calibre" circles, prices increase dramatically. For example, a high quality apartment day rate in downtown Kiev? $150usd.
Agency overnight rates?
Depends on the agency, I'd guess $300+ if you want guaranteed overnight.
Indie overnight rates?
I'd guess $200+. Indie by the hour? $80+
In answer to Doctor Skank's questions, no I didn't follow up with them. Frankly, having met them I just really wasn't interested in either of them.
Bbois77, my mistake was agreeing to dinner at Buddha Bar, which is where most of the money wast spent. Having said that, I try to keep in perspective the bigger picture. On this trip I was in town for 4 days, and my additional airfare costs were $800, high since it was the holiday season. (ie $200 a night). The apartment was $165 a night including airport transfers. Plus incidental expenses I'm already up to $400 a day before I even start mongering.
I could have been a cad and skimped out on dinner and jettisoned the girls early. But they were sweet enough, and that's not how I roll.
Like a batter in baseball, I think sometimes you've just got to hit the ball where it is pitched and not try to force the situation. I'd rather have 5 hours of nice company with two hot girls, than 2 hours of bad and impersonal sex (see my comments about RP), with the same two girls. Although I'll say that throughout the first couple of hours I was still holding out hope that things might heat up. Sometimes, things don't work out.

the price of my apartment provider has dropped too, but for same standard jacuzzi, internet etc.) the price is still around 80-100 € a little bit less, on ul. baseina, very very close to bessarabsky rinok amd in front of arena. the price gets lower on extended stays, but minimum 5 nights. all services are extra, but cheap. daily cleaning and changing of all, including dish washing 10 usd...

And with a certain experience you can recognize them - they are usually demanding from the first minute.
Well, let's look at it this way: in EE the man always pays for everything on dates, and is expected to "drive", i.e. decide where to go and when. Thus how much you spend is almost entirely up to you. The girl isn't really to blame if you overspend.
However, there are two warning signs you should be aware of:
1) She suggests the exact (usually very pricey) place she wants to be taken to
2) Once seated she orders either too much or the most expensive thing(s) on the menu
Both of these, unchecked, may cause you to spend more than you're comfortable with.
I don't think it's a problem dating girls in expensive places if that's what you like doing. Nice places tend to work best with unspoilt but aspirational girls - the best type, IMO.
As for spending your time as effectively as you can, the three dates rule is a must. At the moment, I'm in Lvov. Accomodations here are amazingly reasonable. Renting a flat costs 250g, and I'm paying 150g for Soviet hotel accomodations in the center (Hotel Lvov) - I have my own bathroom, although I have to turn the hot water on 30 minutes in advance. I haven't looked for p4p options although the city itself is beautiful. Truskavec, a spa-town in the Oblast, has a nice little strip club in 'Millenium', a multifunctional nightclub. The strippers have a 'mammochka', and you may take the strippers home for an hour for 500g (as of Oct 2009). I've found this to be, by far, the most comfortable set-up for *****mongering. You pay 70g to 'start the show' if you're the only one there, then the girls get topless and you tip them 20g each. The girls were all in the 6-8 quality range.
I stayed in Higina Spa (www.higinaspa.com.ua), which is very-un-Soviet in terms of ammenities - as in, you don't have to pay extra to use the pool, steam-room, and sauna.

And with apartments it's the same. 250 Gr....? No problem. But no chance to get an apartment that is nice. Somebody posting links to an apartment site in Kiev a few days ago. Don't expect standard like this. There are maximum 10 short term rent apartments in Lviv with that kind of standard. Price starts from 450 Gr. - But don't expect big chance to rent them in the summer.
And about prostitutes in Lviv: Officials try to close all model-apartments and internetsites with pros from Lviv. One girl from "girls" agency told me they move to a new apartment every second week. Many of the pros don't understand english language. If you call those girls or agencies they finish call because you don't speak russian/ukrainian. The best local is Chernigov and may be then with a distance Slavutich and Lvivske (the beer from Lviv). There are also other locals, and licence made (Tuborg/Carlsberg group and Efes group). Some places have Baltika 3 on draft, not bade at all do not know if made in Russia or under licence, still in my opinion the best FSU beer.
Just my two cents on beer...

I am in Kiev, arrived yesterday. Only a short report from the first 24 hours.

I have respect for your views and I enjoy your comments and photos. However, let us agree that we disagree. I never bring a camera that is for several reasons. A few times I regret this, but usually it is a principle. I don't want to show photos of a girl I met on internet and in this forum unless she already advertises herself with photos! Lvov Hotel in Lviv, for example, costs about 15 euros/night, but you've got to turn the hot water on an hour in advance if you want to have a hot shower, and the elevator doesn't go to the 6th floor - you have to go to the 7th floor and walk down. Like Chris Rock says, 'you can do it but that don't mean it's to be done'.
You've got to figure on budgeting at least 80 bucks a night to rent a flat in Kiev, or 100 for a modest central hotel.

Thanks you a lot!No point in going to Odessa. Wherever you go she expects you to cover her travel expenses, and Odessa isn't that much cheaper. In Kiev you should stay close to the centre, as a stranger you must depend on taxis to a considereable degree.
And even with a budget of 900 euros you should stay maximum one week! A studio apartment will set you back close to 50 euros a day, so in a week you burn maybe 300 there. Then you have 600 left. Transport to and from airport costs. Then a lunch/dinner will each set you back 30 euros, that is 60 euros a day. MacDonalds is acceptable maybe once! Breakfast you make yourself after shopping at the supermarket. Taxis cost, but not much if you have a local girl to do the talking. But she wants more: you stop to have a drink, a coffee. And you cannot expect her to stay in the apartment to fuck all the time. Maybe a club? Entrance and drinks cost. Suddenly she hasn't proper winter boots! And you are expected to buy! One week on 900 is doable. But freebies may in the long run be VERY expensive! Taxi’s seem to be 30uah in the Center to anywhere in the Center. It’s been a few years since I rode taxi’s all over Kyiv but it used to be 50uah for anywhere the metro goes. There will be a surcharge for bad weather or heavy traffic.

i used a new apartment agency that too went off without a hitch thanks to some local support from isg’s favored son irish lad. the apartment was everything i thought it would be, the high speed internet worked but alas poor yorick there was no can opener.

Not sure where or who that other report earlier today (under my name) in this thread came from, but clearly not from me. Great reports on your currrent trip. I have been again in Kiev, so here is my report of this stay(I will leave Monday):

Many of the guys have gone through them as well for their accommodation needs in Kiev. The price is decent on their site for the driver and will keep you from having to haggle with the hoards of taxi drivers at the airport. You can have them take you back as well. I had to leave about 3 in the morning to catch my flight and the driver was sitting waiting for me.
You can rent a local cellphone, etc as well. If you already have an unlocked GSM phone the SIM cards are very cheap in Ukraine. Maybe around 1 dollar and the top up cards (minutes) are sold in various increments. The cards seemed to last quite a bit, I think I spent most of my week long trip talking on a $5 dollar card.

Kievapts 'specials' seem a bit pricey for this time of year. You should be able to get a really good price right up to May. And with the Ukrainian economy in the crapper and headed down still, negotiate! I always price shop among 3-4 agencies for my long term trips.
You actually get a better price at the taxi scrum at Borispil then you can with an agency pick up if you know what the market price is and are willing to say no to the first few. But as GT pointed out it’s always a good idea to get picked up by your agency. For that sad trip back to Borispil I always have the last girl I’m with call a taxi dispatcher the night before for a pick up. An hour from Borispil to the Center? Only if traffic is really heavy.
Furchette the supermarket located at the bottom of Mandarin Plaza is open 24/7 but after 10pm you have to enter via the parking garage. You cannot believe every single thing you read here, but basically I think the prominent posters are pretty truthful. I have met some of them and met some of the same women, so there is not a lot of room for BS.
While their reported exploits are 10X greater than my modest forays, I don't attribute that to BS or exaggeration on their part, simply opportunties for growth on my part! I have seen enough to believe that these things are possible.
Bez not all of can or want to take photos to document our exploits.
But you can usually tell if someone is BSing from the details in their reports.
As for whether Ukraine is a good place to monger, my experience in other places is limited.
Sure maybe the River Palace girls are asking $300-$400, but sometimes they will go for $150 or $200. I know, I had that experience a few weeks ago. It wasn't a great experience, but it was true.

However, knowing how difficult life is for a student in Ukraine and coming from a rich country, being well-off, I feel really sorry for a girl who is honest and modest, and who fights every month to pay her bills, who doesn't play any tricks (I am quite certain about that. But I have been wrong before!), and who goes home to family in Nikolaev every second weekend instead of clubbing and fucking in Kiev; I would feel almost guilty if I did not give her some support.

I was in Kiev on wednesday, just 1 night unfortunately. Stayed in the Kreshatik Hotel, real commie dump, normally I take an apprt, but couldn't be bothered for just 1 night.
After business dinner, went for a late evening wodka to the BB, good atmosphere as usual, I really like this place, relaxed, good music, excellent sushi.
