I was in Kiev on wednesday, just 1 night unfortunately. Stayed in the Kreshatik Hotel, real commie dump, normally I take an apprt, but couldn't be bothered for just 1 night.

After business dinner, went for a late evening wodka to the BB, good atmosphere as usual, I really like this place, relaxed, good music, excellent sushi.

Yushenko was a disaster for Ukraine... let's see how Yanukovich... the "new and improved" Yanukovich... turns out.

If he is successful, the grivna will gain some strength, Ukraine will improve relations with Russia and Ukraine will still maintain a positive relation to the EU.

America could be the loser in this scenario, as Yushenko was a US stooge and a very poor one at that.

The point what the guy said is:
- Ukraine will maintain good relations with EU and USA but above all with Russia as the closest and most important partner. What Ukraine needs is in Russia (gas and oil) and the bigges market for ukrainian products is in Russia.
- Military: russian Black Sea fleet will remain in Sevastopol for a long time.
Ukraine's bill for russian gas is big and if there can't be some agreement Ukraine is ready to turn some military assets (probably air force) to Russia as payment. The same happened 1998 when Ukraine gave all their strategic bombers to Russia as gas payment.
- New government will take actions against those who under suspicious conditions sold arms to Georgia or went there as instructors, mercenaries, whatever.
- In Ukraine russian language will be fully protected by new government opposed from previous government which was trying to push it back. On the other hand Russian will translate two TV channels into ukrainian language but only when full digitalisation of russian TV channel start. First to see how many people in Russia speaks ukraininan and use it every day's life (the number is probably very small if non at all - my opinion).
- Since there are many russian citizens living in Ukraine (all Russians living in Ukraine have russian citizenship also) russian government and companies will invest in Ukraine to increase the cultural standard and living standard of its citizens.

In Kiev, there are still several ads for escort services in english language What's On. But those ads are only in english papers. In other Ukraine cities newspapers, there are no 'obvious' ads for escort services, and the 'non-obvious' advertisements, in the Introductions section, there are very few escort services at all. They are really just a few apartments with a few ugly or fat skanks. There's a few street ho's downtown at night, mostly junkies or ugly skanks at the underground entrances or bus stops.

I wouldn't call this level of prostitution, anything that requires much law enforcement. What ever minor level that is, they are already paying the police their cut to operate. There is another hidden level that provides service to oligarchs, that you and I will never be able to find, cause its not in the newspaper or internet or on the street. Its probably in the nightclubs where the oligarchs hang out.

In my experience, strict laws in EE are not made to force compliance, but are an Orwellian game to exact greater tributes or greater control over those who live outside of them (ideally everyone).

Besides, trying to eliminate prostitution in a failing economy is stupid economic policy - prostitution is a social safety net for a large strata of the population who have little else to sell.

As for ignoring western Ukraine leading to a monger's paradise, I doubt it.
I visited Lvov recently and while I did not have the opportunity to give it a fair try, I can say that finding P4P or semi-pros was very difficult. Sure a diminishing economy will bring out a few more, but if there is not a pre-existing culture of girls selling themselves, it will not spring into full bloom any time soon. I'll interrupt the historical discussion here. Just returned from 3 days in Kiev. The best and the newest club is D'Lux in the stadium, 5 minute cab ride from the center, 150 grivna to enter. Didn't see any obviously working ladies, but plenty gold diggers for sure. Also Arena night club upstairs on Sat night had plenty of girls, good ratio. Saw a few working girls in the Arena bar downstairs.

I went to Kiv recently; here is my report. It is a story of rookie mistakes, which I made despite the fact that I am nto a rookie and I knew better, and unexpected success, both in the professional and non-professional front, with a twist. For reference, when I was there USD was 8 GRV and Euro about 11. About my money-saving tips, I do not really care about 5 USD here or there, but it does add up and in any case, I HATE getting ripped off!

First the basics. As soon as you step off the secure area in the airport you will be hounded by predator taxi drivers, who will offer you a ride for upwards of 250 GRV. The regular price ought to be about 100, by the way. They will follow you while you exchange your money. By the way, do not exchange more than 5 USD at the airport, just enough to get you downtown where the exchange rates are much better. Ignore the asshole taxi drivers, or just say yes, and then walk up to the bus in the front of the airport. For 20 GRV you can make it to the metro and for 25 all the way downtown. Why not go all the way? Well as you go into the city there might be traffic jams, and unless your hotel apartment is near the train station, you will have to get a taxi or metro anyway. The metro will cost 1.7- GRV and will quickly take you all the way downtown, to within 200 metres of your hotel or apartment.

The bus will stop at Kharkivska, less than 10 minutes from the airport. You will know you arrived because it is a sudden hub of activity, and at least half of the passengers will get off at that point. On your way back to the airport, you take the same bus on the other side of the highway or at the Train station. The sign is clearly marked 322. See photo attached (if I can post it!). At the train station, if you come via the metro, you have to enter the train station on the old, impressive side, over the train tracks to the new side with the waterfall ornament, out that side, to the right, you will see the 322 sign. Yes, at the train station you will also be hounded by taxi driver who will try to make a deal before you make it to the bus stop, and will offer the same exorbitant prices. By the way, the bus comes and goes every 20 minutes or so.

Hotel or apartment? this has been discussed repeatedly. I suggest an apartment. The problem is choosing a trustworthy company. The only time I had a problem was when the company that was not downtown. So, I had to take a taxi there first. The taxi tried to screw me because he could not find the place. Then I had to take a taxi to the place, which was NOT where it was supposed to be. I just left and took another place the next day. There are about 3 companies right in the centre, on Basyena, beside arena city. They are quite happy to let you check the apartment before paying for the balance. They are so close, so you can always pass by on your way to meeting a girl. Anyway, on to the relevant information.

First, the rookie mistakes. Despite knowing better and thinking about this as I was doing it, I made 3 typical rookie mistakes. First, I made the mistake of using a web site and expect good results. I have done this before, with disappointing results. I used top models (http://www.top-models.com.ua/). I phones a few girls, Many did not speak English; others hung up on me, others did not answer and others just were not busy until the evening. Eventually I got a bite. A girl named Mila (page removed since) who looked fairly nice.

Not as central as the Hotel Ukraine but within walking distance of the main downtown attractions. The facilities were pretty good, almost western standard and it is very girl friendly. In the early evening girls from the strip club parade through the lobby bar, trying to entice guys into the club. And after a certain hour the lobby girls arrive and ply their wares, fairly discretely. In River Palace, yes, a lot of the girls will know some English, or will call over a friend who does. Don't know anything about Forsage. I never made it to the nightclub portion of Arena, which was closed the days I was there, just the bar/restaurant downstairs. But judging by that and its location (central) I would imagine that many of the girls would speak English. When I was sitting at the bar at Arena I saw several pretty hot girls come in the lobby, I guess expecting to go to the nightclub, which as I say was closed that night. We can all go on and on as to which is the better option, a hotel or an apartment. Each has its attributes, each has its downside. My take is that either option is perfectly valid depending on the monger's personality.

Kiev is fun but the big problem for most guys is that there is just about zero English used on the streets or in public transport. It is a Russian/Ukrainian language based society and nothing you can do that will change that fact.

If you are someone who needs some assistance or hand-holding from the front desk or the tour bureau at the hotels or other local resources, then go for the hotel. They can suggest restaurants and make reservations, taxis are always available at the hotel, and lots of other positives can make your stay simpler. The biggest plus is obviously the availability of ladies in the lobbies or in the strip clubs that are attached to some hotels since they are always available for take away.

If you know some Russian or have traveled extensively and got by in other non-English language locales, then by all means the best choice is the apartment. That is not to say the apartment sales agent cannot help you but they are not always available as it would be at a hotel. The big pluses here is your complete privacy, no need to pay off the doormen, spend as much time at the hobby and with no prying eyes. It will also cost you far less than for a hotel room.

It all comes down to what is most comfortable for you individually.

I have just come back from Kiev.

I like Kiev because I always get some new emotions or adventures (not only sex). I know Kiev enough and this time I got a very good ratio price/quality for my travel. The only bad remark is, in these last two years, Kiev has become dirtier and more polluted.

Well see after they join NATO and the Euro Zone... I would say Estonia and Lativa were just as you said they were, just like Poland and Hungry. How much English is being spoken there compared to when the wall first came down?

I'm assuming (in those countries) much higher portion of the population speaks some English mostly the under 30 crowd and mostly in the major cities as these are visited by not only English only speaking tourist but also businesses people.

That now means everyone will have to have his luggage searched or x-rayed on the way in. This will only substantially increase the time inside the terminal.

This system was chaotic when there were many fewer visitors and Ukrainians traveling abroad years ago. Today and with Euro-2012 (maybe) on the horizon, this will be an utter disaster.

* Stay in an apartment - Hotels are generally more expensive, apartments will have a kitchen (fridge, cooker etc) so you can cook at home

* Go to the supermarket - There are a few good central supermarkets and generally the food there is pretty cheap (compared to Europe), so you can cook food instead of going out all the time (there's a good one under Bessarabska)

* Use the local restaurants - There are plenty of low priced restaurants and cafe's serving pelmeni and borsch for next to nothing (basically anywhere that is near the centre)

A couple of people have recently asked about “Street Meat” in Kiev.
I was there last week and can confirm that there are streetwalkers available!
Every evening on Khreschatyk St. there were girls to be found.

Back from my short (for planning and for staying) trip to Kiev. Already trying to figure out when I can go back again!

First thanks to IT Travel for his advice, due to timing, I received it after my return home.

So this trip was not researched (other than what I could learn in about an hour of searching the forum, which was not much as an hour is not much time to sort through all the information here. But I wrote down some key reoccurring words from the forum (river palace for instance) and went to Kiev.

Do not stay in the President Hotel. I will not stay there again. I decided upon the President based upon what I read on the forum could not have been more disappointed. Tiny, semi-clean room; no food service to speak of; poor bar service; no store in which to purchase things like bottles of water and most importantly- NOT GIRL FRIENDLY at all. The security in this place are shake down artists. Pencil neck geeks shaking me down, unacceptable. I guess I would have felt better, if they at least were big muscle heads with thick East European accents but that was not the case.

So the story.

First night. Crap sandwich at the President Hotel Bar. Down to the "night club" in the Hotel. Hot, hot, hot waitress. Semi hot dancers. 100 to enter into the "strip room"- the room where the dancers strip. Dancers do not take off bottoms. Get the shake down from a dancer (a 6 out of 10) at the table. I did not want a dance, but she danced on me anyway. Then asked if I wanted a private dance for 500- no way, go away was my reply. She refused to leave until I gave her a 50 for the table dance. Great report and had similiar experience with a gril from RP, second day was for free too. Don't know why. Most probably some of them a really semi-pro and like to spend a nice time with nice people. I want to do another trip, and Kiev has popped up as a possible. I just want to know two things. Is Kiev and clubs like riverpalace, carribean and arena etc, are they friendly to non white people. I am egyptian, 35, not bad looking, and british born. My trips so far have been good, but I read some of the northerly german clubs can be racist. Are the locals good at integrating with all nationalities, and do you find all nationalities in riverpalace and similar clubs?

I have read that river palace hotties can charge 300usd, but if that is for a night, and taking into account it might be a one off trip to Kiev I don't mind, what did annoy me however, was the tipping of bouncers I read about, if it is a must and cannot be avoided, what should a tip be in dollars? Boring subjects I know.

Openly nobody is really racist in Kiev, but… beeing polite and well dressed (no sneakers, no jeans, but you do not need a tie… and don’t wear red trousers, usually they are for gays!) if you are a non white will surely help. They will all understand you are a foreigner. Some North African will seem like Caucasus people, and there is some racism against them, mostly in smaller places. Speaking English, or asking the door watch openly in English might help.

It’s normal to bribe the hotels everywhere in the FSU if the girl you have in your bed ( ;) )is not registered as a hotel guest. It may vary from 10 to 50 USD (50 in Moscow not in Kiev) top end hotels do not care if you bring up your daily fresh teen… just do not take her to breakfast dressed how she was in RP in the evening!

I just jump over the problem in two ways: I rent a house. I register a first girl (but I usually do it only in Moscow, and I register Valentina, or a sponsorette and usually drill her for a while).

But the best way in Kiev is surely renting a house, it’s cheaper (you start at 50/60 for a studio and can get up to 300 for a luxury 4-5 rooms with service, still cheaper than a suite), better, more friendly.

Do not stay in the President Hotel. I will not stay there again. I decided upon the President based upon what I read on the forum could not have been more disappointed. Tiny, semi-clean room; no food service to speak of; poor bar service; no store in which to purchase things like bottles of water and most importantly- NOT GIRL FRIENDLY at all. The security in this place are shake down artists. Pencil neck geeks shaking me down, unacceptable. I guess I would have felt better, if they at least were big muscle heads with thick East European accents but that was not the case.

Hotel "security" shook my buddy down for 200 (local) in a heated conversation which almost resulted in my buddy putting a beating on the guard. But he was more interested in fucking than fighting. Lucky for them. I was in bed by 5AM- alone.

I spent 1 night at Tropicana hotel in central Kiev. 89 euro. Its what I get for not planning ahead.

Had girls in the lobby, two bars, one classy, one strip joint. Started in the strip joint bar called 'star club' or star something.

1 beer for 5 euro and the girls at the bar were rough. Had some girls walk in from the classy bar looking for punters and although they weren't rough, they weren't as good looking as the average girl on a Kiev street.

Got talking to one girl who said it was €10 to go through the door into the stripdance room, and €30 for a lapdance.

Finished my beer and went to bed as thought the prices were ridiculous. Those ukrainian girls must have been reading their own press.

But you have to avoid some "soviet" style managed hotels like Ukraina (nice placed, may be fascinating with the stalinist architechture) but I was not able to get to the bar (alone!). Mostly Kiev hotels are so unfriendly and so crazy that usually I get always with some flat on ul Baseina or in the area round Arena plentiful of nice and comfortable apartments, surely not dirty cheap but...

I would make an exception for a nice UA styled suite at hotel Mir costing the fabolous sum of 1300 UAH almost 130 EUR but seems the exact place to take a couple or a teen triplette eating, drinking (the shop is well stocked and the room service is 24 h). Thre is even a night the next door to the entrance (meat on place). Girl fixed fee is around 100 UAH to get up...

I have spent most of my time in Ukraine in Kharkov (read the relevant report), but I want to share my impressions about RP with you guys... yes I know there are a lot such reports, but just a word of warning to the guys who are more into the disco/freebie scene than the pro one:

I was totally pissed-off by the place. Bad signs already started when the waiters/bartenders, obviously used to astronomic tips, laughed at me when I told they could keep the 1 grivna change (9 gr. juice, handed to them a 10 gr. banknote) and gave me back the change. After that I got many drinks and pretended to have all the change back up to the very penny. Tipping is not common in Ukr. and anyway I do it if and when I am satisfied by the service, so it is obvious that these guys have been spoiled.

If the staff is like that, imagine the girls. After years of mongering in SEA where most *****s will be happy to act as your GF for a night, the girls appeared to be totally unromantic and only interested in $$$. 300 $ short time, btw. I had a nice flirt and conversation with no less than 5 of them, offered drinks to all of them but they all escaped when I told that their asking price was ridiculous and that I was interested in all niters anyway. They did not even respond to my bargain attempts. First they said how handsome and well-clad I was and similar bullshit and then fled away as they understood that I would not give them what they asked for. Yes, RP is harsh, and overpriced, but if you know what you are doing, it can be fun. Just realize that you can get the same (AND BETTER SERVICE) for a third of the price, so just have fun, enjoy the view, flirt and chat, and then head elsewhere to make the final deals. Just a quick posting to advise of how I found the scene on a trip to Kiev recently.

Day 1 Thursday

Arrived Kiev and no problems at Kiev airport. I had arranged a transfer to my apartment and everything went smoothly.

After a quick bite to eat we went to find Shooters bar and a sober group of four friends tried to enter. We were surprised to be told that the two white guys in the group were allowed entry but the two darker skinned guys were told. No. When the white friends in the group asked why the arrogant doorman just sneered 'face control'.

I will emphasise that nobody in the group was drunk and the two dark guys were very well dressed and well behaved. IMHO Shooters has a dubious entry policy to dark people and I will never go there again. I would advise others to also avoid it. Even when I saw inside there was nothing much happening. Avoid it there are better bars and clubs.

Just need to also mention that everybody else was fine with the dark guys in the group all trip and no other club or bar had a problem with them. Only shooters.

After that took a taxi to Rio nightclub and for 100 grv you get entry to a fantastic stripclub. All the dancers are great looking and for 200 grv you get a fantastic hands on private dance. The only downside is that you have to spend a long period in the waiting area before you get to the main dance area and also that there are so few booths that it takes a long time to get a private dance after you have requested one from the manager. The final issue is that few dancers seem to speak english. This was not a problem for me with my basic Russian but could be a problem for others.

Anyway I took a shine to a beautiful blonde dancer. 8/10 and after a fantastic private dance she agreed to accompany me to my apartment for 300 USD for 3 hours. It was a fantastic 3 hours. It seemed that negotiation is not possible as the girl gives a cut to the club. It may seem expensive to many people but in my mind it was money well spent and worth every cent for a great GFE.

My friends all visited River Palace where they also took ladies home for 3 hours for between 250 and 300 USD.

Day 2 Friday

This evening we decided to visit Golden Gate pub. Whilst it is good pub with excellent pub type food. It is not the place to pick up women. No working girls.

Afterwards we visited Prada Bar. Which is a great looking bar with good music. However it was fairly empty so we left but I would imagine its a good bar to try and work the floor when it is full.

We decided to visit the Star Rhinocerous strip club. Quite far from the centre and much louder than Rio with more local men. The girls are very pushy for dances unlike Rios where the atmosphere is low key and relaxed. However unlike Rio where the girls dance topless on stage. In Rhinocerous they are totally naked.

Again great private dances for 200 grvs. All the girls seem to speak english and all are very beautiful but unlike Rio none offered to leave with customers but that is not to say they will not do so if you ask them.

Left the club to visit River Palace and it was full of working girls. They all ranged in age from 20 to late 30s and in appearance from 6/10 to 10/10. However the most beautiful girls seemed completely unapproachable and when you did talk to them they simply replied 400 USD or even 600 USD. Most girls would ask for 300 USD but would eventually drop to 200 or 250. However some insisted on 300 even late into the night.

Chose an athletic blonde. Body 8/10, face 7/10. Says that she was a dental student but I didn't believe it. It seems most of the girls claim they have other jobs and rarely visit RP. Don't believe them as all the girls I spoke to were vets.

The bar staff are also spoiled and will try to keep your change. Always make sure you ask for it!

Noticed the taxis are even more crooked than before and are now asking 200 grvs. Refuse and start looking at other taxis. My friend had his fare reduced to 100 grvs.

Girl I chose was fine but her performance was very mechanical and she left the apartment immediately after I had finished.

The Rio girls are with you for the full time agreed.

Day 3 Saturday

Visited Shato Bar and Buddha Bar both on Kreshatyk St. Both are nice places but Buddha Bar was surprisingly empty. Lots of local girls but none seemed to be working. Probably worth trying for a freebie if you have the time which I didn't.

Went afterwards to Avalon and Azhure. And this place was full. A mix of local girls. Some friendly and keen on drinks. Others not so friendly. Also a number of working girls on the second floor. Not too attractive 5/10 and not in the looks class of River Palace.

One friend also took somebody from Rio home while the other guys went to River Palace and again payed about 250 USD.

Also visited Raukena just off Kreshatyk St for an erotic massage with happy ending. While the location appears to be worrying. An apartment in an old Soviet block. It was fine.

There was a choice of about 7 girls and they were all slim but about 5-6/10 in looks. However the massage was excellent and a great way to relax with a perfect happy ending if you like that sort of thing.

When you are planning to meet a specific girl in Ukraine, you need to have a Plan B and Plan C - in case girl A is not as billed, does not work out, or simply does not show up. All these things happen. So you actually need to arrange to meet 3 girls (or more) and juggle them until you find one that pleases you (or keep juggling them, if you have that much energy). Agreed GT, I guess that holiday feeling kicks in when you're in EE, pays to always budget per day (especially if you're P4P'ing as well).

Seconded. Chasing freebies means "normal dating expenses".

Even in Tashkent, where cost of living is damn cheap, $100/120 is the strict minimum for a "light" day (no expensive meals, no heavy night clubbing with table and bottles, ect).

Mongers who expect to get by (and score fine women) in FSU on $70 daily running cost expenses better stay home or go somewhere else.
