Even though I have successfully made arrangements for me to move from the US to Germany next month, I am not certain that this news of the Ukrainians getting visa-free travel to the Schengen zone is a good news for me. Sure, I might see more Ukrainian beauties around in Germany, hopefully at FKKs, But I would see less in Kiev.
My feeling is that it is a good news for the Ukrainians and a bad news for me. I have been planning to visit Kiev more often from Germany than from the US.

Since the UK does not take part in the Schengen treaty, there will be technicaly no single regulation. But usually the same countries that go on the Schengen No-Visa list will be handled similar by UK visa regulations. So if Ukraine makes it onto the list, chances are good UK also opens up.

When they stay longer than their Visa allows them, that's not such a big legal problem. But working illegally here is a big problem for the employer and employee. The young lady might seek work in a student restaurant and doing some free lance extra work as prostitute.
The employer risks in Germany a fine up to 300.000 Euro and up to 3 years in prison. The employee will sent back to her home country and is blacklisted for any later return. If you're renting a western style vacation flat, then ask the company if there will be heat in your apartment when you arrive. If not then demand to be placed in a flat that does have heat.

Some of the bedroom community districts are still without hot water but I suppose no monger will be staying way out there.
As for the heat, that will not be turned on until the average daily temperature reaches 8 degrees Celsius or 46 degrees F for three consecutive days. Even then, rooms will be heated to an average temperature of 18 degrees Celsius or 64 degrees F or less depending on where you live and what exposure your apartment has and what weatherproofing there is. All this has been mandated by the city government and the city energy company so the only alternative if your apartment is cold would be to ask for a space heater.
There will likely be lots of electrical outages and / or fires due to a combination of overworked space heaters and Soviet-era wiring still in most homes that is not up to today's standards.
For those of you planning ahead, the country may run out of gas and other fuels to heat homes and businesses by late January unless they come to some agreement with Russia and get much more gas. That is when the daily temperatures are at their coldest and nothing may help warm apartments.
Until then, I suggest all activities in the apartment be under the covers!

Thanks.Yes it is certainly safe to stay in either locations or anywhere else in Kiev, I was there a few weeks ago and everything is pretty normal as if nothing has happened. The there is very little signs of the resent protests. However, having said that the situation in the Ukraine is very fluid and anything can happen at any time so make sure you keep in mind that there is a war east of Ukraine and this can easily spill into Kiev.

Here is the correct info on how to take public transportation from the Kiev Zhulyani airport to the center:
Take Bus 22 from the Zhulyani airport Terminal A to the Shulyavska metro station, and then take a metro to the center.
Don't' make mistake. This bus is NOT an airport bus. It is a regular city bus that leaves off the parking lot of the Terminal A. The bus stop is only a 2 min. walk from the terminal A. Ask where it is exactly at the tourist info desk (!!!) at the terminal A.
It is more difficult to figure out where to get off the bus for the Shulyavska metro station. I guess you just have to ask the bus conductor or anybody else on the bus who speak English, like I did. If you mean that between the landing of your incoming flight until take off of your outgoing flight, there are only 4 hours, it would be very difficult to do anything in Kiev. I've waited on line up to half an hour when it is crowded there, (2) even if you just jumped into a taxi at the airport, travel time between Boryspil to downtown Kiev is between 40 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic, and (3) you also would have to be back at Boryspil a sufficient amount of time prior to your outgoing flight to clear security, and passport control, and get to your boarding gate the minimum required amount of minutes before flight time. I would recommend arriving back at Boryspil no less than 1 hour prior to the outgoing flight time, assuming you already have your boarding pass and your luggage has remained checked in from the incoming flight, and the airline is taking care of transferring your luggage onto the outgoing flight.
Putting the foregoing time constraints together, it is hard to see how you could remain with sufficient time to do anything memorable in Kiev. I would recommend just relaxing between your flights, and planning a different trip with more time in Kiev to enjoy what it offers.
Nevertheless, if you are insisting to try to experience even some small thing in Kiev on this stopover, even though the timing is really too limited, the kind of things that are available to do, also depend on what time of day or night the four hour stop over is. If the four hour stop over is during the daytime hours, you could do a visit to a massage salon where you can get a sexy massage and "happy ending", or you could visit a girl apartment or brothel that has a place on site for you to be with the girl you select for sex. Will all this pressure and planning be worth it in order to have 1 hour of sex in Kiev? If it were me, I would put it off to a future trip to Kiev when I would have more time. Or I would see if it is possible to stop in a different airport, such as Frankfurt, where such mini sexpeditions have been reported on as doable. Or I would see if I could get a stopover with a few more hours at Boryspil, which would make all the difference. 4 hours is really cutting it too tightly, and risking missing your outgoing flight.

People have written different things about ATM's here. My experience the last times after the problems (fighting) happened in Kiev is that some banks have restriction on withdrawal. I only use my VISA bank card. I mostly withdraw money from ATM's at Globus shopping center at Khreschatyk. One of the main banks there who also have a filial there (with a ATM next to the coffee shop), you can only withdraw 2000 UAH per day. Others there, the ones with a yellow sign with a cross on top you can withdraw more money. I tried 2 different ATM's from the same bank for 8000 and 5000 UAH right after each other with no problems at all. So I only use one card when I am in Kiev. No need for more. I always have some dollars extra in cash, but I haven't needed to use it for exchange for UAH. I only gave dollars to my now ex girlfriend. So if you are in a shopping center there should be plenty of cash to get from ATM's there. Have a nice time in Kiev.

I have the option of visiting either Russia or Ukraine early summer. Even though this may be early but given that this will be a work-related visit I need to do some leg work beforehand, which has me thinking about this question: where to visit? Russia (Moscow or possibly St Petersburg) or Ukraine (Kiev or any other city? I have about 10 days or so to myself after work is done and am looking mainly for freebies. I am not sure of the concept of semi-pros but that maybe an option too. I am in my early 30's and not bad looking. I had a great time recently in SEA and was hoping to repeat the same in Russia / Ukraine as I am very much into the women from this region. So if you were starting your adventures from one of these countries which one would it be? Of course this is if both are reasonably safe by the time of my visit. I understand that the political situation may make one (or even both) of these options moot.

Mostly in Sumy, but few days in Kiev with solo (very interesting. LOL) bus transport between the two cities. My take was / is very positive. And yes, Ukraine seems to be quite safe for visitors (I'm 55, USA gent. Tried to blend in and not draw attention to myself). I found the people to be great for the most part: friendly and welcoming (but most don't speak much English). Albeit a bit cautious / skeptical until they get to know you. Maybe I'm naive but I think you're good (safe) if you act normal and low-key, and use common sense. I spoke absolutely NO Russian / Ukrainian when I arrived (eventually picked up a few words and common phrases. LOL) . So there was some risk involved in traveling alone (not much of the infrastructure is English-helpful. Which makes sense). I fairly quickly felt at ease in (cautiously) asking for help, with most locals at least trying to do so. Since I'm also interested in finding LTR I loosely worked with a US-based company to provide interpreters, and this helped a lot (with help in getting around, knowing local customs / events / transportation). My "scariest" situation was making an unassisted transfer from the Sumy-Kiev bus drop-off (basically a big shopping center parking lot near Kiev main train station. LOL), at peak of rush hour as darkness fell. I was obviously a "tourist" (dragging / rolling my bags. LOL) and had to make a detour trek up some long steps to the main station taxi stand. While I did have one persistent man try to "help" me (I think. No English. I just kept going), everyone else just ignored me and I felt fine, despite the crowd and not understanding a dayum thing. Finally, using a few key "pre-saved" phrases on my phone's Google Translate app, I snagged a (nice!. Late model Toyota) taxi for 80 grivna and made it easily / safely through Kiev rush hour traffic back to hotel Rus.

This has happened to me before. Unless you complete the journey to Kiev, they may cancel your return flight from Frankfurt to Chicago. However, if you call the airlines and told them you were changing plans, then they will retain the Frankfurt to Chicago booking. It is up to you. If you make good contacts in Kiev, I think it is a better value than time spent at a FKK. Ukrainian girls are beautiful!

Usually that's like 100 USD. A stop over isn't restricted in duration, as long as the whole tariff time isn't violated (that's usually something like 3 month). So fly to Kiew and have you FKK pit stop on either way. So you get best of both worlds.

If you miss any leg of a round trip flight (other than the last leg), the rest of the ticket is usually cancelled by the airline and lost. Several different airlines informed me of this policy. I had this exact situation numerous times.
The only way I found around this problem, was not to buy one round trip ticket with stops in each direction, but rather to buy two separate one way tickets, one ticket going, and the second ticket returning. Then the second leg of the outgoing ticket is the last leg of that ticket, which you should be able to miss without affecting the entirely separate return ticket, which you purchased separately. As you also correctly observe, you can only do this (miss the second and final leg of a ticket without consequence) if you have no bags checked in to the final destination. So if you're travelling light, with only hand luggage taken into the cabin, what can they do to you if you miss the continuing flight after the stopover?
However, the foregoing solution only helps if the cost of a one way ticket, is about half of what a round trip ticket costs, in which case buying two separate one way tickets, one going, and one returning, won't cost you any more than buying a round trip ticket. However, most airlines charge for a one way transatlantic flight, almost as much as a round trip ticket. So buying two separate one way tickets will cost much more than a round trip ticket. Therefore, this strategy is only good for flights within Europe, where the one way ticket costs about half of a round trip ticket. It doesn't help for transatlantic flights, except maybe with Aeroflot, which I saw many times had one way tickets which were about half of the cost of a round trip ticket, even on transatlantic flights. Maybe there are other airlines where this is possible.
Of course, Aeroflot will not help you get to Frankfurt. So this strategy may help in another circumstance in future when you notice that a ticket is significantly cheaper to a final destination, than tickets to its stopover airport are. But it is not a solution for an FKK stop.
It happens that I am a big fan of combining trips to Kiev, together with stopping in an FKK. I have stopped in an FKK on the way going to Kiev, but I find that then, I arrive in Kiev too drained. And I have a lot of pussy waiting for me in Kiev, too much even to handle in just a few day visit. So after experimentation with this, I have come to prefer stopping at the FKK on the way home from Kiev. That way I can do justice to the beauties in Kiev, arriving there fresh and ready to enjoy the Kiev hotties. Such a trip would give you the opportunity to do everything. Have stops at FKK clubs, and experience Kiev. The cost of such tickets from Chicago to Kiev, with stops in Vienna and / or Frankfurt is in the $600's /$700's range. When using kayak.com, the search engine puts together flight itineraries from multiple airlines, such as a combination of Ukraine International Airlines together with Austrian / Tyrolean airlines, or with Lufthansa. Use the filters in the kayak.com site to eliminate flight itineraries including "Franz Josef Strauss" which is in Munich, a wasted stop as Munich is not a good mongering destination for FKK seekers), and look for flight itineraries having more than 20 hours of flight (which means they have long enough stopovers for an FKK visit in between flights). Ideally, I liked the full day stop in Vienna so that I could spend from opening time or noon until around 6 pm at FKK Goldentime, before heading back to Vienna airport for my continuing flight to Kiev. And on the return flight, a stop overnight in Frankfurt, which would allow me to stay at the FKK until closing at 4 am, and get back to my hotel for a little sleep until I have to get back to the Frankfurt airport for the flight home.
So now you can use the extra $500 or so to bang a few more chicks in the FKK, just as you wished, and also have some nights in Kiev.

I think there is a very good chance Lufthansa might cancel the return leg of your flight Frankfurt to Chicago unless there is a very good reason for not doing so, eg Kiev Airport closed, Political situation in UA etc. I think you can't break your flight. Check with an expert and take a good insurance policy.

A few years ago I just wanted to go to London, but I booked flights from LA through London to Kiev with my mileages, because the fee associated with mileages for LA-London-Kiev was cheaper than that of LA-London. The mileages I needed to Kiev was the same as the ones to London.

In order for me to collect my checked-in bag in London, I talked to an agent of the airline on the day of my departure at the LA airport and told her that I changed my travel plan and wanted to get off in London and not to go all the way to Kiev. It is difficult to understand what your question actually is, because you have not specified what it is that you are intending to bring into Ukraine, that might cause any issue with Customs. Therefore please state what it is that you intend to have with you upon entry into Ukraine, and perhaps someone here can offer pertinent advice.
In general, if you are entering Ukraine as a tourist, you should not have any problem with Customs. My last visit was in October 2014. After passport control, and getting my luggage, I passed an X-ray machine where some people were putting their suitcases into the machine. But since no one had directed me to do so, I just looked toward the exit door and proceeded straight past the X-ray machine without stopping. At that point a uniformed customs officer approached me and asked how much currency I was carrying with me. I told him I had about $600 USD and 200 Euro with me. Do you have some special need to carry more than 10,000 Euro, the legal limit? If not, it is my practice, and my recommendation that when traveling, one should carry only the minimum amount one considers necessary for one's needs, each day. And one should rely instead on withdrawals made from ATM's of sufficient local currency for that day's spending needs. This is recommended as a security precaution against loss occasioned by theft or robbery while traveling. In this way only the money one has withdrawn is thereby exposed to such risk.

I don't know if they really expect for me to carry 5000 usd into Ukraine. That seems crazy. Plus I would never spend that much money in a place like Ukraine.

I think you should declare the currency when entering the Ukraine so that you can justify when you are getting out.
However, you must understand that Ukraine is currently in state of civil war. Normal / usual rules may not apply or change.
To some extent it may also depends upon your nationality.
Political situation is more of concern the border currency check.
Moscow is safer, similar ethnicities and similar prices.
The only reason I avoid Moscow is visa hassle.

You are half right. You have to declare what ever cash you have but not to justify it in the way out but its for controlling money lundery and funding iligale activity. Here is the rule in Ukraine. You can bring as much cash as you like no limits to what you can bring but, if you have more the 10 K in cash you have to declare it yourself even if they don't ask. You also (in case of over 10 K) must have paper work from finincial orgisation (bank or similir) to confirm your withdrew of the cash. You will be asked to fill in a form and you take your cash. If you have more than 10 K and you didn't declare it it will be confscatid and you might have more problem than losing your money. If you gave 10 K or less you don't have to declare it only tell the officer if your asked how much you have. He might count the money ablnd write it in a book and give it back to you. Same rule for money taken out of ukraine. I have been to Ukraine with 10 K USD with no hassel and I have been in with more (with my paper work in order) and it was fine. In the way out they do ask sometimes about the amount of cash you have. BTW the same rule is in USA and EU only in USA you are allowed 10 K USD in EU it's 10 K euro and in UK it's 10 K £. In short you can move what ever amount of cash as long as you declare it and have your paper work ready.

The reason I bring in so much cash is that I hate using my credit cards or ATM. I just won't do it consider me old fashion in way. I only asked cause there was an article that said foreigners would have to pass a cash limit to stay in Ukraine for their time that they stay there. I also plan on staying in Kiev for 60 days and have an apartment already reserved and paid for in Oblon district. So that saves me from having to carry a thousand bucks more. But I always carry large sums of cash with me and I don't like answering anybody how much money I have on me. I guess I kind of have to be honest with a customs officer if he should ask me.
I don't worry about any of the girls I bring into my apartment. I've passed out drunk on some of them and none have ever stolen from me. And they knew where my cash was. The only thing I have had was that most of them eat my food without asking for permission. They just go straight to the kitchen when they walk in and literally eat anything they can find. The rate when I was there was only 16:1. Now the boards read, as you say, up to 24.9 : 1. The Grivna is in a freefall! The exchange offices will give you a fair rate for your USD, closer to the 24.9 you have stated. I have never felt ripped off when exchanging USD to Grivnas.
