Briefly, this was a half-naked protest by students against the Kiev Post. Sorry, no topless ladies or full nudity but it deals with possible future problems with our favorite pimp paper.
A brief translation.
"The Prosecutor General Got to See a Striptease"
Today, 23 December, a protest called "no sex mafia" was held under the intriguing name of "naked protest."
In this manner, several activists from various youth organizations took off their shirts to protest continued sex business advertising. The demonstrators tore up copies of the Kiev Post and threw them into the air.
The Prosecutor General was given a request to open a criminal investigation into the Kiev Post for its continued advertising of the sex business. In the pages of this publication one can find ads for sex services despite the fact that such services are not legal in Ukraine. The protestors said they were against child pornography and sex slavery.
If you have copies of the Post, make sure you hold on to them. It may not be too long before you will need another source to find these phone numbers.

I myself speak Russian so had no such problem, but my friend speaks only English. Some times he would call up an agency and had no problem negotiating with them, just like Volpone wrote. most of them have someone that speaks Eng.

To follow up on Astroboy's report below, I've been here twice, and had one good experience, one bad. I will tell you about a little incident I had last month while in Kiev.
I finally decided to try another escort company other than Kiev beauties or Gia and decided to ring Vice ecsort(vice sisters) from their number in Kiev Post.
Spoke to the girl who spoke relatively good English and she told me the prices were 60USD for the hour and 30 dollars per hour after that. She said I could come to their place which is somehwere in the center but it was late and I could not be bothered searching all over Kiev in the dead of night for a shag.
She asked what type of girl I wanted and I said blonde and young (did'nt really care as long as she was good looking). I was then told a bit over an hour someone would be there.I was watching out my apartment about 90 minutes later being the impatient type that I am and see a car trying to decide whether to come into my courtyard from the street or not and I thought that that must be it. While they were dithering a police car rolled past in the opposite direction or which I thought nothing of. The escort car then drove in and as i was about to get up I notice the cop car come back and park out the front and two cops get out and start walking into the courtyard.

They asked for my passport which was obviously upstairs in the apartment but unfortunately stashed with all of my cash so i had no wish to show them where it was. They kept saying in pigeon English "prostitute, Illegal" and kept saying no, not me and that I was off to Arena for some dancing..
They acted dubious but eventually let me go back up to my apartment.
In conclusion I don't think it was a sting operation or a scam, I mean they let me go and did not ask for any money in the end of which I was expecting. If I had of gone to the car and looked at the girls I am sure I would have been fucked. I think that the escort driver was just unlucky that the cop car went past at the wrong time while he was looking indecisive and saw all the girls in the car. But to I have to say that once they were busted it was obvious to me with the cooperation of Vice escort and the driver that I then became the target of the cops and they were cooperating with the police wholeheartedly. I don't expect much more from them as I would try to cover my ass to.

Tuesday night at RP is Ladies Night which means they get in free all night plus a ticket for a 1000 Grivnas lottery. If they have visited RP on a weekend night and produce the ticket they also get in free on Monday nights. Wednesday night is free if they check in before 23.00 pm. This means that the best nights for hunting are Monday through to Wednesday, as for letting the local guys in free as well it doesn't happen. They do not advertise or promote themselves anywhere else. For all the time that I have been here, I have never seen them do any promotion outside the net.

I did not intend to promote the agencies in the Kiev Post but rather a simple warning that things can change here quickly and you can lose sources of information if you are not prepared. If you read the postings in this forum, more than a few mongers have used the Kiev Post (and What's On) as their major source, naively, of English speaking ladies. That the services are mostly crap and they lie about everything is another story. I tried these agencies years ago and they were as horrible then as they still seem to be now.
Service is a word that does not exist in the vocabulary here for most businesses and the sex business is no exception.
These Kiev Post agencies also promote their wares in the local free promotions such as Rio. The only difference is that while the the ladies are the same, the prices are cheaper since this is read mostly by and for locals.
With River Palace, that is another story. What you see is what you get although here, too, quality of what comes later, in bed, also varies widely.

Yes Klon15 every girl in the Millenium Club of the hotel Dnepro is available for private sessions for a minimum fee of 300 $. It is ok to bring them in your room in the hotel : a) you have not to pay the security b) if it is late at night you spare a lot of time and keep it available for action !

I have used this service all 3 times I have been in Kiev. I always have an apartment right on Independence Square near there and my first night take-out has been from this strip club. I don’t know the Hotel Mir. But I think if you make a reservation for a double room or a junior suit it will not be a problem to bring a girl into your room. As I saw on their website there is also not much difference in their room rates.

On a last minute whim, i decided to visit Kiev for the first time.
I was in Italy for business, and Ukraine air had direct flights so i figured why not!
I was only able to stay in Kiev for 4 days, but i figured it would allow me to get a general feel for the place, and decide if it was worth a longer visit in Summer.
General Impressions:
Ukrainian people are very nice, especially when compared to Russians. Walking around town people were very helpful when i asked for directions, and not once was i bothered by the cops.
City overall is small, and the metro system is quite good and cheap.
I didn't see as many solid 8's and 9's as do in Russia.
Freebie Scene:
Given that i decided to go last minute, i didn't have any girls lined up from the internet. But i figured that i would just meet them at the dance clubs or coffee shops.
My favorite club was Caribbean, because i am Latin, and I was able to work my magic on the dance floor. I would not recommend this club to those who cannot dance.
I also checked out the Arena clubs. They were very nice, and i was able dance and talk to a few pretty girls, but it was not conducive to an easy pick up.
During my first few days i had dissapointing results with girls. I was able to talk to them,get their number, and kiss a few, but not much else. Definately not the easy sex that I was used to in Moscow.

112 is a very small club based in a cellar in the Arena entertainment centre. It’s a nice club to hang around, but I don’t think it’s a good club to score. Because it is to small, it is to crowded and the music is played to loud. Then you can better go to the Orangeria, Arena club, PatiPa, Caribbean or the new club named Ring Action Club.
The disco/club in the Ring Action Club is the biggest in Kiev at the moment. I’m sure there are a lot of non-pro’s hanging around there.

Go to Shooters, they actively discourage the pro and semi pro scene. The Arena City complex is a beacon for Western spoiled girls; pro and non pro. When you find a club with a lot of young male locals and a high ratio 60f to 40m. You've found a non working girl local disco. You can also try the clubs on the Left Bank too.
If you are looking for Ukrainian girls who are going to drop to their knees because you are a Westerner you either need to build a time machine if you want to stay in Kiev. Or you need to go to the other cities in the Ukraine. Other things to factor in is if you are Brad Pitt's twin or have an 'A' game - otherwise bring your wallet. Cruiser D - I can vouch for bad sex in Ukraine too, including when the girl was trying her best. More than once now I think about it, as its far more annoying than bad sex in London! I've also experienced the overnight bait and switch, when I've gone to bed drunk with someone stunning and woken up with a hangover and a dog - not sure that's unique to Ukraine though.
Doctor S - Like you I lament the passing of 111, especially for popcorn night. As far as I can tell early week options are really poor at the moment, I haven't found a club I'd reccomend on either Monday or Tuesday over my last few visits. 112 is not quite as debaunched as 111 (less groups of girls out together just out for a laugh - more couples and groups of friends), but I've been several times on Friday and Saturday and really rate it - once it gets full it's got a good "pit" atmosphere and stays busy until at least 3-4am.
To be honest IMHO Arena is probably the best club option early week, and whilst attitude of the girls there isn't as stuck up as over the weekend, I still find their initial attitude a little over-putting (although easier to overcome). To be honest I've quite warmed to Arena in recent visits, especially for early week visits. If it's a bust, I can just go and play poker which keeps me happy.
The other option I've resorted too recently is 44 - the bands that play are awful, but its usually quite busy and I've had fair success in getting numbers for dates later in the week. I actually really like the place just as a bar. I also quite like one of Eric's other places, Orekh - again, not a pro-place at all, but like all other bars charm and a bit of confidence (and a slightly thick skin) can reap rewards later in the week if not that night. Not really found a bar that I like as much as Dino's (I think that was it's name), so if anyone has any normal bar reccomendations, I'm all ears.
The Shooters claim of actively discouraging a pro-scene may be true, but I'm fairly dubious about the semi-pro scene not existing there (it does!). Regardless, I've always liked the place, but I would only rate is as worth going to from Wednesday onwards - I personally rate it as the best option on Thursday in Kiev (maybe along with Orangeria).
112 is interesting on a Thursday, although this is based on a sample of one evening. It's free entry and free drinks before 11pm for girls and guys aren't allowed in until after 11pm. A couple of Kiev visits ago I was cutting through the Arena complex around 11.30pm when two gorgeous creatures stumbled out absolutely shit-faced (as in they stumbled out and threw up everywhere). Being a man of absolutely no moral fibre in the slightest I thought - drunken beautiful women.... I'm there. Inside was one of the more bizarre scenes - drunken women abound but it was like the weekly meeting of Kiev's uglier women! Either great bodies and hideous faces, lovely faces and hideous bodies or, that rare Kiev beast, complete Kiev fuglies. Once I had adjusted to the bizarre scene I actually stayed and had a great night - a lot of fun and no attitude from the girls. I would agree that Kiev has changed dramatically from a monger perspective in the last few years and nearly exclusively for the worse - it was always going to go that way and the new visa laws simply accelerated things.
That said opportunities outside of P4P are still abundant if you put the effort in and you have the time to follow up, especially moving outside of the club scene as the point of first contact (Cruiser - I'd agree semi-pro is good, but non-pro is better).
A lot of the new first time visitors seem pretty one dimensional in their approach - talk to the girls and they're pretty bored of the same approaches and attitudes from foreigners. In some ways the influx of new people has actually made it easier to differentiate yourself, especially with a bit of Russian and the ability to have a more sophisticated approach than "Do you speak English?" and "How much?" (not so popular with the regular girls).
Things may be worse, but it still isn't like Moscow in my opinion - Kiev is still a lot cheaper (maybe not for P4P, but in nearly all other things) and whilst attitudes of many are decidingly more money orientated, I think it has a long way to go to hit Moscow standards. Obviously as compared to Moscow there are no-where near as many options for...well, everything, but you can still find quite a few really good cheap bars and restaurants, especially once you start venturing outside of the epicentre.
I still think Kiev has a couple of years left as a good place to visit, but not much longer.

However, if you have a spare weekend or a few extra days and you're in Kiev, Odessa is not too far away and IMHO it will soon become a destination rather than a side trip. The next few years here will be prime time simply because right now ODS is not one of those "discovered" places, i.e. Prague, Riga, Kyiv, that have been ruined by overexposure.

I hear you on the doom of Kiev as a monger's and playboy's paradise but also agree that we can still function and succeed there with the application of superior cultural understanding, language skills and understanding of what makes the Slavic girl tick.

Over a year ago, I already posted the same remarks about RP. I left RP with empty hands and ended up in Moda Bar.
Since then, on my subsequent visits, I didn't return to RP so I'm part of the boycott already.
There are tons of other places you can go and find pros or semi-pros, maybe not as good looking as at RP, but we all learned that the best looking is rarely the best girl in bed (or on the kitchen table ;)). Girls in Moda Bar are pros, but the music is just too loud to stay for a long time.
In the last few years, I've also been to Arena, Chaikovsky, Chicago, FreeDom, Gorod, Joss, Opium, Rest Town, Tato. I've spotted at Arena and Gorod some girls I saw before in RP. There were always some pros there. I didn't have a chance to visit Ring Action Club yet (a new club), but will do so in March-April.

I've been to the Boat three times during this trip and the action and female/male ratio was nothing even close to like it was in the past.
Sure the 5-6 and sometimes 7's can be had for $100-150 after a little mojo but even they start out at the standard $300. But I tend to work the 8's and 9's. I'm doing very very well in the normal (if you want to call it that) Kiev dating scene this trip, so I know it isn't my game.
The night I went it seemed like a group of Middle Easterns were dancing with each other (I thought Traveling Male was going to puke on himself. He was still recovering from our trip to PaTiPa that Saturday night when we stumble unknowingly on Young, Happy and Gay night). I doubt they had any really money. Because the next night I saw them wearing the same clubbing clothes at Arena. Like I said the Boat has become a joke of itself. Now it's attracting tourist who just come for the spectacle.

i think it's a combination of a few different things. a lot of tire kickers are coming to the boat now. and if anyone didn't know or didn't realize 90% of the girls there network with each other and i don't think any one of them want to 'devalue' themselves in the face of their peers. i think we all know in general how vain girls can be and ukrainian girls in particular - there is a reason why there are mirrors in 95% of the clubs (and no, it isn't for the 45-60 year old businessmen). heck, everything else is overvalued in kiev for the foreigner, why not the boat too.

Here is my VERY late report of my trip to Kiev in late December of 2005. Had a very busy time since then, so wasn't able to sit down and write a detailed report.
Hotel: RADISSON SAS

Stayed at the Radisson SAS. It's an OK hotel, but totally overpriced at at almost 300 Euro a night (including the 20% vat). They cater to western business people, so the rip-off factor is high. Some points on the hotel:
- Lobby is very small and unimpressive. Bar on the right hand side of the entrance doubles as a meeting facility. Didn't notice any working girls there, but must admit that I didn't spend much time there at night.
- Used the hotel pickup service to take me from and to the airport. 37 Euro each way (including VAT). Service was fine. Car was a modern Skoda (basically a Volkswagen sedan).
- Standard rooms are very good with a lot of luxury. Nice comfortable bed, flat panel tv, FREE Wi-Fi Internet (big plus!), large shower, personal safe.
- While the Room price is outrageous, minibar prices are very reasonable.
- Breakfast was OK, nothing special. Restaurant was pretty good, but nothing special either.
- Staff does their best to help, but they have still MUCH to learn about 5-star level service. Working in the hospitality business myself, it's obvious that the staff is too unexperienced at this level. The Moscow Marriotts do a much better job at this (when is Marriott coming to Kiev???).
- Their reservations department is a total mess. I booked through their reservations department and they made a total mess of my reservation and prices I was quoted. At check-out it took an hour to clear everything up. Luckilly I had printouts off all their emails and faxes, so they weren't able to charge me extra (but they sure wanted to).
- last but not least: this hotel is girl friendly. I was a bit nervous about this as there are always 3 security guards in the lobby directly by the door. As I took my girl in, I stared them straight in the eyes with my "mess with me and I will cause a big fuss" look. They gave me no problem at all.
I was in Kiev for business and only for a few days, so my experience is quite limited.
STRIP CLUB: RHINO CLUB (???)
One of my business partners took me to a new strip club on two occasions. I think it was called the Rhino Club (at least it had the logo of a rhino I think). Believe it or not some Ukrainian steel works is supplying Russia with the large diameter steel pipe they need to complete their Baltic gas line and destroy the only bargaining chip the Ukrainians have. Word is the Ukrainian Prez got a nice piece of action to roll over.
I have no idea why any Western company would bother to do business in the Ukraine. Anything that needs to be manufacture can be done cheaper in the new EU Eastern Europe. Out of a country of 55 million people 50 million are dirt poor - doesn't leave much of a market to make it worthwhile to sell to. And if you need brain power, India beat everyone to it about 10 years ago. And if India gets too pricey there is a few billion Chinese looking to get a piece of the apple pie. And on top of it a lot of people and the government make it a sport to see how much they can steal from foreigners.

Police have apparently begun a campaign of raids in hotels in Kiev, searching for people involved in pimping. I just spent about a week in Kiev, and most of it was freebie hunting. I only used pros on a couple of nights, so I'll post about that.

If the place is nice, the seats are comfortable, and the girls are beautiful, I don't really care how much it costs me. In Moscow I go to a strip club almost every other night, often just to get in the mood before buying a pro elsewhere. But the Millenium - come on. It's a tiny poorly lit room, you sit on a tiny wooden chair, the waitress I got was a buttertroll, and there was nothing to look at by virtually any standards.
In short, it wasn't that I didn't want to spend the money - I didn't want to spend the money in that particular place.
For anyone who thinks Millenium / Dnipro is a nice strip club, I strongly recommend a tour of Moscow establishments.

No no, I'm not paying the girl directly - I'm just talking about the overall cost of a strip club visit. A lot of strippers in Moscow are what you could call semi-pros, i.e. they don't just go and have sex with you the second you offer them money. The really, really gorgeous ones will often not even consider sleeping with you the day they meet you, and will try to milk you some more and turn you into a regular.

If you are using an apartment agency, $100/night - which is a very high rate even for rip off friendly Kiev would get you a 'good' American syle apartment - $150/night would get you a palace. I tend to find very good apartments for around $60-70/night and I still think I am getting screwed.

The first time they switched apartments on me, and gave me a completely diferent place - smaller than what I've reserved, no jacuzzi, worse location, but the same price as the better one. The second time, I complained about that and asked for a nice, big apt with a jacuzzi. They recommended one of the apts, and that's the one I got when I came in - but it was missing half of the features listed and photographed on their website, like the microwave and satelite TV. The bedroom was literally a bed, a nightstand, and nothing else. Also, when I reserved the place it was $130 a night, but when I arrived it was suddenly $150, and that's the price they charged me.
The apartments are OK-ish, but I don't think they're very honest people.

I had a good expereince with Edem Club the last time I used them. I contacted them last minute, within a week of my arrival in Kiev. A friend of mine was supposed to rent me his rental apartment in Kiev but then rented it out to a yearly client. I rented one apartment for the NYE rush and was then supposed to spend the rest of my trip in the old Communist Party headquaters on Khreschatyk. But the apartment there was a slightly remodeled upscale Soviet apartment. While it is nice to be part of history I like something more western. I called Ludmila and she showed me two apartments. One was good with a great location and the other was great with a good location. I picked the one with the great location. The only bad thing I have to say about the apartment is that the satellite TV card was actually valid and worked. I had 400 channel of the most aweful crap I had seen in my life - Italian - Spanish - Indian and Arabic TV. The worst part was that I couldn't get any of the local stations, which I kind of like. Oh and paying by CC was an annoying process where I had to go to another office. My experience was above par with what I have to come to expect with Kiev rental agencies. However, Barton Junk who I had recommended to them didn't have such a good experience. So with everything in Kiev, YMMV. I don't think there are any rock solid apartment agencies in Kiev. If I find one I will be sure to post it.

Yeah. I keep expecting a Western-style experince, where I know that a certain amount of money basically buys me peace of mind, and I can rely on a company to provide excellent service without me having to worry, double-check or complain. They just don't have that culture in Eastern Europe, and the laziness is so contagious that even most Western-run businesses there eventually succumb to it. CaT of course notwithstanding.
All I want is to have a nice place to take the girls to, a big fridge to store all the booze, and a clean jacuzzi to relax in after a hard day's night. Apparently that's too much to ask for.
I suppose my own troubles stem from the fact that I trusted the provider, and didn't hound them to no end to make sure I get what I wanted. Duke and 109, fact is that you two are speaking about the same issue. Here you have to behave more like the locals which means that you have to be much more demanding and assertive about what you want. If the ladies are goblins, it is common and standard practice to send them away with 20 grivna taxi money. If they seemed to have come out from under rocks, you might not even open the door and send them off without the taxi payment.

It was advertised at 64 euro's a night but I said I wanted an appartment for 50 euros. They said I could have it for 50 euros a night, excellent. I'm going back to kiev in 2 weeks time and I'm renting the same appartment. This company is excellent, I arranged a taxi thru from the airport as well, 20 euros.
I got driven to their office, and english guy runs the company, and also gave me some advice of the nice sports in Kiev.
Anyway, a great company if you want to rent an appartment, I was there 10 days.

i returned from kiev about 3 weeks ago. this was my fourth visit and i should be able to continue to visit every 4 months or so for some time. here is my experience, mostly from my latest visit, but also a general impression from every visit.
hotels in kiev are overpriced for what you get. you definitely want an apartment for the value. unlike russia, you're not depending on a hotel for visa registration. the aparments at www.uarent.com are for real and it's a legitimate and professional business operation. apartments are well-appointed, satellite tv with some english channels, cleaned about every 3 days or so, high-speed internet by request (make sure you request it, even if the apartment says it has it). don't count on a particular apartment (typical kiev b.s. -- last minute changes). insisting on a specific apartment is just frustrating, but i've had good luck with insisting on location (i.e. near independence square). pick-up and drop-off from the airport is $30 each way. the terminal at kiev-boryspil airport is tiny by comparison with other large cities. expect minimal delays through immigration and customs.
my opinion is that gia is the best way to get your feet wet with the girls. $400 for 24 hours is a bargain for what is essentially a courtesan-type experience. most of the girls are generally up for anything including clubbing, dining, exploring, etc. and they are generally very polished, friendly, and elegant. nice girlfriend-type experience. my personal favorite from my last visit was dasha, a real bundle of energy who kept me going all day and night.
i've only been to one hotel club -- millenium at the dnipro hotel. the girls were consistently the best-looking i've seen anywhere, but a little less pleasant to be around (stuck up). in addition, it's a rip-off. your drinks are normal, but one for the girl could be $100. it's a minimum of $400 to take a girl home, and they will not negotiate (unusual for kiev -- must be the house rules).
river palace is a great place for guaranteed action. you know those places that people say "anyone could get laid here"? well, i've been to them all and left empty-handed, except at river palace. it's pot-luck, but if you want to leave with someone, you will. it gets started late (pretty much empty until about 11 or 12). there will be some pretty girls -- some pro, some just looking to make an extra buck or two, and some who are there to dance and/or drink. if you're looking for paid companionship, it's possible to negotiate to $100, depending on the various factors involved. in typical ukrainian fashion, the girls are generally very girlfriend-like, but usually not as much so as gia. you may not be able to negotiate an all-nighter, especially with the amateurs, who want to get home early enough for ma and pa not to get suspicious.
arena city is a decent place for a little high-end professional action. i usually start out in the brewhouse on the ground floor. the bartenders are friendly, although a mixed drink is not likely to end up the way you want it. they're ok with jack and coke, but anything more complicated escapes them. i think they're just not familiar with the mixed drink concept. most ukrainians seem to drink their liquor straight-up and unmixed. there's a 95% chance that any girl(s) sitting at the bar is a professional, usually a very attractive one. i've occasionally been lucky enough to take home a gorgeous and talented girl for the entire night for $150. there's live music some nights, good musicians but they usually sing phonetically in english (this can be hilarious if you listen closely). the food is quite good, although above average in price for kiev.
the disco upstairs in arena city is one of the better ones. the cover is $20 for men, $10 for women. don't ask for a table unless you're prepared for a $20 table to become a $500 table when it's time for the check. beautiful girls here, including several pros, especially on the weekend. they are hard to negotiate below $300. i guess they figure you paid a $20 cover, you can afford $300.

The Gia website is about as honest as a website can be. The prices are as quoted and I've never been asked for even one dollar more. The price will be verified when you call. The photos are accurate, with the caveat that these are professional photos, and no doubt the girls try to look their best. I was very pleased with Dasha, who is even prettier than her photos when she's smiling and having a good time. Most of these girls are not show-pony types who spend hours a day at the gym and have model-perfect figures. They are pretty, young girls with nice figures who are perfect for the girlfriend-type experience. If you're looking for a one-hour deal, you would probably be happier at River Palace -- it all just depends on what you are looking for. English level is accurate as shown on the web site. If it says English (base) don't expect her to know much more than a few words. Gia usually will try to talk you into an English-speaking girl if you don't speak Russian or Ukrainian. I spent some time with Zoya, who was much quieter and quite shy, but pleasant enough to be around. There is also a girl named Karolina who is a lot of fun -- she's not on the website now as she's back home for a month. Performance is good -- I suppose it depends on how you mesh with girl. Some have been good, some have been great. Pay attention to her page on the website and you won't have any unpleasant surprises when she balks at a request. I am looking at a nice apartment with www.UkraineApartments.Com, but they want a larger than one-night deposit and they want to hold it as a security deposit until my departure ($445 to be exact). I'm not familiar with what is customary there in Ukraine, yet I know that I really don't have any legal means to recover my security deposit should they up and decide to not give it back upon leaving. Hopefully after this summer I will have more to contribute to this forum. On my one trip to Kiev last fall, I spent some time walking around Kreschatik at around 22:00-23:00.
One thing I noticed around this time, walking through the metros that go underneath the street intersections in Kiev, were girls walking alone... dressed like hookers (OK, many girls there dress like hookers, but, these girls were dressed to kill.) Anyway, the girls are walking alone in the smoky underground hallways and maybe talking on a cell phone. Anytime I tried to make eye-contact, I didn't get any signals that they were working girls, but then again many girls in Kiev won't even look at you unless you call them by name. It puzzled me that a girl (at worst a 7 or 8 on the scale) would be walking around alone in the cold night in these dirty tunnels. They weren't going anywhere fast, just hanging around the hall-way. If they weren't working, I could not think of any other reason why they weren't with a friend or a man.
Have any of you noticed this? Perhaps my questions seem a bit naive, but not speaking Russian, I couldn't exactly walk up to them and ask a quote for 2 hours.
Also, have any of you tried the strip club/casinos on Lesi Ukrainki Blvd? Stopped into one and it was like no strip club I've been to here in the States. 3 in the morning and the girls were stunning! Did not stay long, but I understand one of these girls can be had for the night at $100?
Also, coming back to the apartment at around 03:00-04:00am I always noticed a woman standing at the corner. I'd go back out a few minutes later to the market down the street to pick up a few items, just out of curiousity and the chick is still standing there. I rented an appartment through somebody else and it was really shity. He showed me some great appartments that i could have rented for a third of what a room at the Radisson is. Next time i will ask him to rent an appartment for me. You will not go wrong with Alex. Kiev is paradise, second only to Moscow, in my experience.

The metro in Kiev, like most of the world is the mass transit light rail system. In the US we just call it the subway. In London (is it called this in the rest of England too?) it's called the tube or underground. What you are referring to are the underground pedestrian passage ways that allow you to cross busy streets without become introduced to the Ukrainian emergency medical system. A few contain metro stops and shopping areas.
Rule of thumb for sorting out girls in that situation. If you smile at her and she smiles back she is either a working girl or she thinks you are hot. If you aren't hot then she is a working girl. Either way it is an invite to strike up a conversation.

I've seen apartment sites that request a passport #, but never an actual copy. Of course, I am aware that stolen passports do happen, and for that reason, I am not going to scan my fucking passport for them. Nor am I coming off $250 for a security deposit. The girl from www.UkraineApartments.com I am e-mailing is named Elena. She's e-mailing me from the main website domain name, so I am pretty certain she is an agent for the owner of this apartment. Maybe the owner is just an ass and she's trying to create a happy medium. Lots of bargaining from her end though.
From my prior experience in Kiev, it seems the agent or owner could really just have no idea what they really need or want. After all, why would somebody put down a one-night deposit, let alone a security deposit, if they weren't really coming to Ukraine? I was blown away by the ineptitude of another popular apartment site who I won't name on the public forum. I thought I was going to miss my flight out of Borispol, because the hot chick manager claimed I had requested another night stay at a totally different apartment. I was like 'ummm... where the fuck are you taking me and why?' She had the audacity to ask me on the phone several times if I was 'sure I hadn't requested another apartment??' I'm like 'nyet! spasibo! my fucking plane leaves for London in 3 hours!' Of course, I remained calm and respectful, but I was so livid inside. I see a mix of ineptitude and con-artistry in the apartment rental business in Ukraine. I sense the ineptitude many times is a cover for the con-artistry. How far off am I?
The reason why they ask for one night is that if the person contacting them is an internet dreamer they don't lose out. Once they figure out you aren't coming when you don't show up that night all they are out is that one night which is covered by the one night advance, seems reasonable to me. As far as the problems you are having with the security deposit issue. I would guess it is either something the owner demands (very very very few agencies actually own the apartment) or they are just getting off a bad incident. Why don't you just compromise and tell her you will work something out when you are actually in Kiev renting the apartment. That way both parties can better size up the other.
I think when it comes to the 'known' apartment agencies it more of a case of just poor (or Ukrainian) business practices then an outright scam.
Umm, maybe the hot apartment manager was asking if you were spending another night because she wanted to spend it with you. ;) PM me with the other apartment agency name if you would.

landed 22-March, cleared customs in about 15 minutes and went to meet my driver from ua-apartments who was not there, so I hang about there for about 20 mins fighting off the taxi mafia in borisphol! so in the end I have enough and go to the the taxi booth and get one to hotel that I use, figuring that I am fucked will get some sleep and call them in the morning and sort it out! big mistake! when I get there they tell me they only accept e-mail or phone bookings and full (elections monitors)so I throw myself on the sweet desk manager and she starts to ring about, finally she gets me somewhere, double room 53$a night, shrugs her shoulders and gets me taxi to a hotel on the left bank (no names) which to my horror is soviet non renovated job! so I check in and the room is absolutely apalling, so decided not to wait till tomorow, hunt out the internet cafe, on the website go back to my room and call ua apartments asking the obsvious question. Where fuck were you? any way after a brief conversation they send a driver to pick me up and I check out in less than 45 minutes thinking that my ordeal was over! how wrong I was! me and the driver leave the hotel and head to ua apartments office where we pick up julia thier manager and off we go to the apartment I had booked! by now it getting late in the evening. Any way we start going a bit further than I normally like and eventually arrive. We park up all get out and head to the front door and absoutely astounded as they are punching numbers in the lock but it not opening! they have changed the lock code and they don't have it! any way 10 minutes later julia says we will go arround the back and go in the door there and its open! wonderful. Check me in pay 4 nights and she tells me no probems back door never locked! so I sit down read the brochure and it tells me only 5 mins to centre so by now more hungry than tired I reckon I walk in town catch the metro and go to the joss centre and the engish pub there. It must of took me at least 30 minutes to get to the metro station and in total 53 to be in pub having a drink and some thing to eat, looking at the clock it already 1230 so I pay up and get a taxi to the rp which is busy! sit down with a stella and 2 minutes later anastasia sits next to me and ask what I am there for! woman and she says she 200 and we negotiate etc, but there is a problem she has friend and she being awkward with her. Many girls but only a few men in the place and she doesnt want to be left alone. So she trys to persuade me to have both but I am not having any of it and tel her she has 5 mins or I will find someone else. I say ok make sure I am in by 1800hrs and write the rest of the night off. Driver comes at 1200 picks me up and takes me to the new apartment which is far superior and only 2 mins from globus. Pull up outside and there she is julia who I tell in no uncertain terms what I think about her! but worse was to come we go upstairs sit down and then she asks for another 2 nights rent on top of the 4 already that I have paid her plus 10$ for the driver I tell her to fuck off and I want the manager whom she calls quick conversation in russian says the manager is not available and there is no more to pay! now fellow mongers I want to make this plain julia will take advantage of you if she has the chance and be wary of her! as regards to ua there appartments were clean and safe and all the other mambers of staff were ok and did what they contracted to do! now settled and being fri I go to see the show at joss 12$ticket starts at 2230 goes on for about 2 hours and it was good after the show they have a bit if a disco and out of nowhere 8-9 young girls 18-26 came in and started dancing I am not saying they are working or from the strip club next door I didnot stop long enough but worth a visit to find out next time! left about 1 and went rp where just as I got there the turks were leaving with there bonde booty for the night! had look arround and spotted yulia having a drink by the clock near the bar. 200$ total waste of money probally new to it all and I don't think she knew what really what to put up, responsive but wouldnot take that extra step that most of them do and become invoved but I didnot care really after week I had. b7... Your report points out a couple of things that are important to anyone who wants to rent an apartment in the FSU...
1. Always get a mobile number that functions all night AND with someone who can speak English on the other end.
2. If you have another option, even for more money, avoid Soviet-style apartments if you can.
3. If you have ANY question about the quality or service when you check in, do not pay for the full stay in advance, pay only the next day.
4. If possible, make sure that you are delaing with an organization who understands that you expect reasonable service. This can normally be accomplished by looking at this website and maybe their website to determine if others recommend the company.
5.. ALWAYS try to deal with a company who is renting their OWN flats and are not operating as a broker... VERY FEW actually own their own flats, but this will prevent the codes from being changed and having to work through a middle man when something breaks.
Remember that you may encounter a problem with ANY apartment, but the real winners are the apartment rental companies who will respond immediately, no matter what time, to correct a problem and don't try to jack you around with misrepresentations or bait and switch flats. At the same time, remember that this is the FSU and sometimes things happen that are out of the control of everyone, including the rental companies and the owners, that's why you should try to minimize any problems by dealing only with rental companies who own their own apartments... it saves one level of hassle for everyone.
We used the services of kievlet.com the last couple of times in Kiev. Probably not the best deal available, prices on the website are in euro, but Gary from England and his staff will take good care of you. Only problem we had last time was the missing backup water heater, make sure the apartment is equipped with one, otherwise you might wait for hot water every now and then, not the best option if you have a date and are in a hurry.

Apart from the cocktail parties that take place here every night, the Cubano Boom Party is held each Friday for fans of Latin music. And 1961’s D.I.S.C.O. party offers all the greatest dance hits of the ‘70s and ‘80s every Sunday. When your legs get tired take a break at the cozy sushi bar with its comfortable sofas. Just put on your best disco outfit and get on the dancefloor.
Azhur was also designed to resemble American clubs of the ‘60s and ‘70s with its chic simplicity and flights of retro style. Bartenders and waitresses comply with the interior, dressed as Elvis and Marilyn accordingly.
Once a week you can dance to the sentimental tunes of old Soviet bands. Other nights provide hippie-era hits, and arm wrestling contests are held every week. But be warned, the face control is really strict – visitors older than 25 and dressed either in retro or rock-n-roll styles have the best chance of getting in.
Sexily named Pomada (Lipstick) consists of three different “zones” – a dance floor with glass walls and ceiling, a bar and a tiny stage; the “white” hall – a soundproof lounge zone; and the “red” hall, where you can relax on one of the three comfortable corner sofas and hide from the crowds. The music played at Pomada is “light and melodious,” including Russian and Western pop hits and latin music. In fact Pomada has already become one of the favorite spots of the gay community, though heterosexual couples also number among the club patrons.

Rock-n-roll lives
In the past year the number of live music clubs has grown considerably, please both the fans of live music and the bands themselves, who now have more opportunities to prove themselves worthy of an audience. What’s more, these clubs are usually much more democratic, with hardly any face control at all and generally quite affordable prices for both entry and drinks—definitely another reason to like them.
Ring gets its name from a stage shaped like a boxing ring, situated in the club’s biggest hall that accommodates about 20 tables, a number of isolated booths and a long bar. The second floor hides the balcony and two separate entertainment zones: Jazz Club, with its own mini-stage; and strip bar “69.”
Ring welcomes all sorts of live performers of different calibers, compositions and styles – from intelligent progressive rock and reggae to ethnic music and nu-metal. Every Saturday you can hear three different bands perform in a single night during the Tarakan (cockroach) Party. The name is not incidental, as the entertainment program involves cockroach races that take place inside the transparent bar stand, which has small wooden tracks built into it under the glass. Among notable concerts already held in the club were the heavy music festival Moon Fest, international reggae fest Good Vibes vol. 2 and a solo concert by Esthetic Education.
With its total absence of decor - or even a sign above the entrance - Torba seems to hark back to the times when rock was outlawed in the Soviet Union and any existing bands belonged to the underground scene. The only elements of design at Torba are the posters from the music magazines and portraits of Soviet leaders on the walls as well as heavy wooden tables that look straight out of the 18th century. Not surprisingly, experimental music is most favored here – death-metal, grind-core, death’n’roll, rockabilly – just as long as it’s played well. Inside, an old poster over the door reads “Welcome, members of the Republican conference!” You get the picture?(???)
Just like its Obolon-located older brother Docker Pub, Docker’s ABC resembles your typical bar. With its wooden tables and chairs, the oblong main hall and its long bar have small open pavilions each with a few tables inside. The walls are adorned with ancient advertisements and portraits of rock stars. Another “docker” trademark, the stage is situated behind the bar and the music played is only rock-n-roll. While during day you can hear your favorite classic rock albums, in the evenings there’s live performances from resident club bands as well as guest musicians mostly from Russia, such as punk rockers Nogu Svelo, who played at the club opening.

Most clubbing youths still prefers traditional venues with their house and techno— so naturally its these places that are competing most fiercely, trying to drive audiences away from each other by using star DJs, unusual design and particular specialties.
The main color of the interior in Dance and Groove (commonly referred to as D&G) is black with inflections of steel. The two levels of the club and its minimalist design create maximum space for dancing. European DJs and fashionable dance music trends from the West prevail in the musical politics of D&G. The always-glamorous Hed Kandi series of parties already so popular in Europe helped popularize the club as an advanced and high-end dancing venue. But glamour surely has its price--expect serious face control and dress code.
Recently opened Wenzel was at first considered a pre-party spot, but it’s already turned into one of the highlights of the city’s clubbing scene, with five unique zones each designed in a different style, several relaxation halls with sofas and armchairs, a dance floor and a long bar that stretches out across two rooms. During parties the whole brick-walled corridor adorned by scary gargoyles holding flat-screen TVs turns into a dance floor. As for the parties themselves, disco maniacs should appreciate the club’s eclectic and pleasant mixture of deep-house, tech-house, deep-techno, electro-house and other fashionable sounds from guest deejays such as DJ Chloe from Paris who played at the opening.
The newest club on our list, Kaif (Kick), opened just two weeks ago and though first impressions are often wrong, the opening party on March 3 did little to foster a good reputation. Thanks to the efforts of club security, the event - advertised as a party with no entrance fee for everybody holding an Afisha card or invitation - turned into a V.I.P. opening that welcomed only “special guests.” As a result, already before 11 p.m. a large group of people crowded by the entrance to Kaif, being violently pushed back by security, who continued to admit those aforementioned V.I.P. guests.
Those lucky enough to get in found themselves in a broad entrance hall with a coat check and stairs leading up into the spacious lounge zone laid with carpets and supplied with its own bar. Another flight of stairs led down to the main hall with a bar on either side of the room, a stage and a dance floor divided into squares of different colors that lit up from below. Quite empty at first (and that with the crowd outside) the dance floor gradually filled with girls and boys who seemed to care not so much about music and dancing, but showing off their moves before photographers. If the idea was to drive away the gilded youth and big spenders from other hot spots than the aim was certainly achieved. Those who didn’t manage to “get high” at Kaif despite having to fight their way both inside and outside, will hardly want to return. Though with its lavishly hip interior, the place does have potential once the dust settles.

There are too many guys who come here and think the word "agency" attached to any business such as apartments, agency, escorts means something of quality and a "good deal." That is about as far from the truth as possible here.
I think that if anyone pays an agency any more than one night in advance for an apartment, they are fools who really deserve to be ripped off. Most of the places here are not worth the monies spent on them, not for even $20 per night. You are better off in a hotel no matter how many bribes you have to pay to the doorman.
I openly dare and challenge all the apartment agency owners to private email me and prove on the spot that it is otherwise.
I also dare them to openly explain to all in this forum why they need the full price of the stay if their place is a sty and that is no typo. If they do not, then they are the thieves and cowards I have claimed that they are. What is wrong with a one-night deposit as is the case in the West?
I have my own place here in an old Soviet bloc building so I know what life is like in such a place, the good and the bad.
If the locals have any pride of service, let them prove it here.
We know they read it and let them prove it NOW!
The same is true of such escort agencies as Kiev Beauties and all too many others. Let them also prove that they provide the best ladies for the lowest prices for all when we call. Not in a thousand years will the present lousy system change.

I've also come to grudgingly expect it from Ukraine (or Russia for that matter, but surprisingly much less so) and adjust accordingly.
One agency that did work well for me was kievlet.com, except for the fucking driver who was hitting on my girlfriend while taking us to the airport assuming I didnt understand him speaking Russian. He looked a bit surprised when he was comically holding out his hand for a tip and I told him off for his insolence. I'm sure he'll remember me, so I guess I have to find another agency now... :)
But dont expect things to change. As long as Ukraine has girls, we'll keep going there. This kind of through and through corruption is also the reason why Ukraine is going to be a third world country with a second world facade for a long long time.

In fact, the poor customer service is an opportunity for everyone... Just as I think that Moscow Star raised the bar while I was there, even though it may have edged downward in the past year, I think that my new venture will raise the bar not only in Odessa but even in Kiev when customers begin to demand things that they have seen in ODS and realize that shitty service and lousy equpped apartments are not, by definition, what someone can expect in the FSU!

Cruiser, I have to agree with you that things will get worse. I am not sure if they can ever get better. While I had no great expectations about Yushchenko, he managed to make things a near disaster in seemingly record time. If he really thinks that Ukraine can join the EU during his likely one term in office, he really is an idiot who should be put away in some insane asylum and not running the country.
Perhaps this country would be better off being run by Yanukovich and his criminal mob. The eastern part of Ukraine is run by him and we know what a shithole it is and it will not get any better.
It is not just apartment agencies, escorts agencies, hotels and other businesses catering to tourists that are a problem, it is everything. The supermarkets are overpriced and sell "podelka" or fake goods. The biggest rip-off there is liquor. Most of it is watered down wines, counterfeit Western liquors and anything else these thieves can get away with, which they do. There is an undercurrent element of crime and thievery in almost every company, in almost every business. Unfortunately, that has been a part of culture and society here for so long that it probably won't change. We who come from elsewhere just have to be aware of it and adjust accordingly.
That is not to say that someone like CA Traveler can't have an impact. I hope he does and I hope his honest services for honest prices model does make an impact here. I wish him every success but Odessa, the legendary home of Russian/Ukrainian crime (and comedy) is a tough place to start, worse in most respects concerning corruption and mafias than Moscow.
Doc, you are also right. The only reason to come here is for the girls. Nothing else here is worth it.
Funny you should mention counterfeit stuff Uke. I remember walking through Metrograd looking for some clubbing duds for Barton Junk. The 'Prada' suits looked like they had been sewn together by a three year old. I enjoy going to Kiev but would not trust anything at face value.
Yushchenko is as big a crook as Yanukovich, so is Goldilocks. I don't know what the people were thinking electing him as some kind of reformer. He was neck deep and an ex crony of the prior administration but then again, they didn’t have much choice. At least the people laid the groundwork for something. Unless they become as disillusioned as the Slavs to the north.

Perhaps if you contributed your experiences (if any) on a regular basis then perhaps we can take you somewhat more seriously.
Also, if you don't get it, and it seems you do not, this forum while about sex also allows us to speak up on issues related to life here and how we can avoid being ripped off taken advantage of in one way or another in a country and culture many do not know. Bandit, the table charge at Arena is $200 which goes to whatever you order. If you order $200 or more you really don't lose anything. If it is a little steep go with 1 or 2 other guys. I prefer to go with 2 or 3 girls. ;)
A less pricey alternative to Arena is 112, which is across the courtyard from Arena. I haven't been to Orangenia yet so I can't comment on it. I didn't bother going to D&G because I wasn't too fond of the club that was there before. There was a lot of hype to PaTiPa and when I went I wasn't impressed. But I can see why people would like it - big stage - huge dance floor. I didn't make it to Sound Planet but my friends had good things to say about it. Went to Caribbean once while I was there this trip, I always enjoy it and the two girls who I took liked it too - it was there first time there.
I got a bad oyster at one of the sushi places and I wasn't able to eat sushi the rest of that trip. I still feel a little queasy thinking about it. But if you like JOSS keep going; maybe I'll join you there. ;)

I sensed a certain amount of anger in your report as I read through it and after almost 6 years in Kiev myself I can understand why. Every newcomer to the Ukraine site should read that report before they start moving around or doing business in Kiev.
One of the things I first noticed when I started working here was that if a Ukrainian is given the responsibility of purchasing something for the company they will soon find a way to inflate the invoice, usually by coming to an arrangement with the vendor. I have come up against this problem time and time again in the last 6 years, and what really intrigued me was the fact that many of the people doing it were very competent well educated employees.
Finally I got the opportunity to try to get inside the Ukrainian mentality and find out where they were coming from. This happened the night I bumped into an ex-employee in the Korona Bar. We had always got along very well and proceeded to get drunk together, him more than me, finally I seized the moment and asked him why there was always this problem with inflated invoices etc. He looked at me and smiled and said ' You see my friend, in Western Europe you guys see that as stealing, here we see it as just another shrewd business deal'
I have the feeling that this was the truest thing I have ever been told in Kiev.

Uke! One can feel your frustration. I’ve only been visiting Ukraine for a few years and whilst a regular visitor I am rarely there for more than a few days, which is as much as I can hack from a business perspective. I’ve recently decided to start dissolving my business interests in Ukraine, simply as the benefits (both purely monetary and the obvious fringe benefits of visiting there regularly) have become increasingly outweighed by the overwhelming corruption at every level and the shocking service ethos.
With that said, I thing one has to put the Ukrainian situation into perspective. This is a country which is not even 20 years old and, since its independence, has spent most of its life under heavy Russian influence; endemic corruption permeates every section of society. With this background, the idea that the country could change overnight – or even within a year of the Orange Revolution – was always over-optimistic. However I am more optimistic than you (which is easier as I don’t have to live there) and believe that Ukraine is taking small and vital steps towards changing – I mean an honest and fair election! That’s unbelievable! Major change though will take time - I think it could 20 years+ before one sees the beginning of genuine change, both in terms of honesty in business, providing a basic level of service and addressing some of the crushing poverty that still exists for many.
I think a lot of the comments on the board over the last page or so are hugely important – if you are not used to EE in general, Kiev is a tough visit. Anyone who indicates otherwise is ,IMHO, being misleading. The game is heavily stacked in favour of suppliers (apartments, taxis, girls) who are far more prepared and ready for the new traveller than the new visitor is for them. Most newbies arrive with a spirit of happy adventure and a view that the rules of tourism (and low budget mongering that exist in most other countries will exist in Ukraine – “It can’t be that bad – I mean they’re trying to attract more tourists”. They simply aren’t prepared for the ruthless rip-off culture they are just about to encounter. Especially in Kiev you just meet person after person whose first response to you is “I must make as much money as I can from this one person. I don’t know when my next opportunity to screw a tourist will come along.” This goes all the way through to an increasing number of the girls, from the true pros (higher prices, bad service) all the way the through to non-pros at places like 112, who know how easy it is to have a cheap evening out getting drinks bought all night for them without any intention of going home with anyone and girls on dating site. I am actually not damning all involved – if people are so willing to throw money at you, it’s hard to refuse. People who come here and put up with being ripped off and overpay, have to take some responsibility for the situation.
From a personal perspective though, I still love the place. In fact the more challenging the game becomes, the more addicted I become - I like the challenge and, to be honest, I like the game.
If you want things on a plate, I would avoid Kiev like the plague. If you want a challenge, I think it’s as much fun as anyone can handle.

But there is a noticeable lack of that in any other Ukrainian city I visited.

Tremayne, about 20 years ago I had a discussion with someone over the interchangeability of the terms 'thief' and 'shrewd businessman'. He said to never get the two confused. If you are a thief people are eventually going to stop doing business with you, as the Ukraine is finding out. The only reason why we (the west) deal with Russia is oil, that is it. The Ukraine has no such luxury. The best they can do is play a weak hand of geo politics.

None. As I said, I think it will take 20 years+ to see changes. None of this means that the events of the last 18 months haven't been hugely important. You can judge the government on their performance (and it's between dire), but you can't begin to judge the impact of the revolution. If in 10 years, Ukraine finally begins to gets new leaders, new parties or a new ethos which begins to address the poverty and endemic corruption it will in part be down to the path the country has started down in recent months (even if the contribution is to fuel disappointment with politicians and their inability to deliver change).
In my view, expectations have been altered forever and therefore the elections last year weren't a joke, but the initial part of a process.

While there have been changes here and there in the political consciousness of many individuals, it really has not taken any root overall in society as a whole. That is not to say that it won't. However, there were similar hopes in Moscow during the mid-90s when I traveled there frequently, and look what happened, so-called "managed democracy" but more like quasi-dictatorship.
It can happen here as well, and almost did with a Yanukovich near-win. He and his mafia still won a third of the vote this week and might have had more had there been a greater voter turn-out. Don't count out any return of one-man or one party rule here. Lukashenko in Belarus is the poster child for this type of misrule.
Yushchenko is also very corrupt. This recent Russian-Ukrainian gas deal has Yushchenko's brother as one of the organizers. In a murky deal such as this you cannot tell me that Yushchenko doesn't know all the details and approved what is obviously financially beneficial to himself personally? He will lay on some gilding on the budding democratic Ukrainian structure but underneath, despite his words, his actions show it is the same corrupt lousy structure.
Bottom line is that Yushchenko and his crooks will be gentle when they screw the people unlike Yanukovich who would give everyone a hard ass fucking to bring it back on topic for our friend Wally.
Cruiser is right. A year later and nothing has changed, nothing has improved. I am not sure it has slid backwards but no improvement is a recipe for disaster. Stagnation in politics always brings on unexpected change and many times the result is an unpleasant dictatorship that the people actually bring on themselves.

Try to make all arrangements for her to obtain the visa! Let her make a reservation at a travel agency. The travel agency should know that it is only necessary to obtain the visa.(they do it many times) So it is just a reservation/option without paying!
The costs of the visa she has to pay herself and she will get it back from you ones she is in your country. (between 20 and 50 dollars, depending on the embassy)
When she has the visa she can fax you a copy of it at the post office. Then you go on internet and buy a ticket for her which you will leave at the ticket office of Ukraine International airlines at Borispol.
Well, In case it goes wrong you will loose the ticket but you are sure she did not get your money to take advantage of you!

In EE countries, especially Ukraine and Moldova, you can easily buy passports. All you need is $400 max. As long as you can manage to find fake birth certificates or other necessary documents, you may even take a passport with your name and some else’s information.
I know two girls use this trick. One of them used her cousin's information to get a new passport.
I don't mean that she is a scammer, but be cautions. $1000 is lot money for them.
I have to agree with the other posts. If the lady in question has not traveled out of Ukraine, getting any visa will be very difficult. Even with travel agencies, you have to be careful about the one you use. The embassies have a blacklist that they constantly update of travel agencies that try and scam visas from consulates. Applicants who use these agencies will almost always be rejected.
In any case, before you can even think about sending any money for a ticket, which should not be done anyway, (you should buy the ticket in her name for pickup only by her at the airport) you have to make sure she has the visa.
Sending money to anyone here, other than possibly a close relative is a very bad idea. See my comments below about how people do business here, it is almost often one big scam.
If you cannot meet this lady here, don't make her think that you are someone rich who can send her money all the time. That is the wrong signal to send. You should make every effort to come here and meet her, to see who she is and how she lives. Meeting her elsewhere, even if it were possible, is just not the right thing to do.
If you want to meet her and cannot do it in Ukraine, one other possibility is to meet her where she can go without a visa. same like me. Its been my experence and I was there before 9/11 that they are just as raceist as anyone if not more so. I use to get halleled all the time, ALL THE TIME!!! - In Kiev and Odessa the wages higher compared to other cities in Ukraine.
- Further you have to know that the wages can differ depending on the place where your girl works. If she works in the centre, she can have a higher wage then a girl working in a shopping mall outside of the city centre in some region of Kiev.
- Also the hourly wages can differ. As a student you earn less then a person working there to make a living.
- Some shops in Kiev pay their employees lunch and/or transportation as part of the wage.
So depending on the above mentioned circumstances (and maybe some more) the wages differ enormously. In average I think it will be around 50-70 grivna a day for a shop clerk. For this money it is very hard to manage a living in Kiev. Therefore many people live together in one house or apartment to split some costs.

I have not commented about this issue of wages since I thought the ill-named "gentleman" might be able to learn a serious lesson or two about wages and living conditions in Kiev once he does get on the ground here.
Shop clerks or sales help do earn relatively low wages. However, I suggest the self-named "gentleman" who seems to be far from that look at the clothes and shoes these ladies are wearing. They far exceed any monthly income. There is the official salary rate and there is the unofficial salary and benefits that most are paid here.

Try to be generous. Life in Kiev is expensive, and 50 dollars will not solve any problem to any girl. Be generous specially if she dont ask you pay-for-play. Free sex use to be more expensive than profesional. Kiev and former USSR girls in general expect that you will spend a lot of money with them in good restaurants, good cafes, buying them some presents etc..
If they are profesionals, then is stupid to be generous, she will not be generous with you at all in most cases, but if they act as a girlfriend,,that is honey..so you must be generous.
