I'm actually going to be switching over from Ukrainian to learn Russian starting today. I may spend time in Saint Petersburg. Given I can stay in Russia 180 days at a time it's a good option in between 90 day stints in Kiev Lviv and Kharkiv.

I was just yesterday studying the St. Petersburg as an alternative option for Kiev and was about to come here to ask opinions, and there you are, already making educated comments about the issue. I call this luck. So, as it seems, St. Petersburg has a great choice of "salons", with apparently real photos of girls. At least some of them are reported to have real photos, and they are taken in the same rooms as the services are provided. So, that would be really hassle free stuff. But how is it in Kiev, are there such places where you can go and expect to have a good selection of nice looking girls? I haven't ever been to such place, since I've always enjoyed the company of touring Czechs or local girls, but in a vacation that kind of option would surely become handy. It is one thing to shutdown the whole country of New Zealand or South Korea in a reliable manner, and track every single case until the pandemy subsides and dies out (I am speaking hypothetically, not sure how successful NZ and South Korea are at this point).

It is completely different case when virus is already inside the country of Ukraine since February-March, and is everywhere, replicating and multiplying at will. What benefit does the closed border provide to Ukraine? 0. 5%? 0. 0001% improvement?

Regarding entry yes Ukraine is open I entered a couple days ago. Bought medical insurance before leaving home from the visitukraine official website. Took the Covid test at the airport upon arrival (cost 1040 hrv) and had results back within 18 hours. Also had to load the tracking app in order to pass thru immigration so best to load and complete the questions prior to arrival. After receiving negative test result the app let me know my self-isolation was finished and automatically deleted all my personal information.

USA is a red country. Also load the Dii Vdoma app and answer the questions. They want you to enter your home phone number even though after you enter thru immigration you will probably be removing that SIM card and buying a local SIM.

Immigration will want to see a printed copy of your purchased medical insurance and also want to see you have the app loaded and questions answered.

After you exit baggage claim go up the escalator and turn left and follow the hallway to a glass walled office for Covid test paperwork to "avoid the 14 day quarantine" or some such wording. Ask for the paperwork in English and sit down at the table back by the escalators and fill it out. Go back down the escalator and turn left to the currency exchange / bank on the left. Change a small amount of money like $100 or less because it's a ripoff exchange rate there. But you need to pay for your Covid test in hyrvnia local currency. After you change money you need to pay for your Covid test right there at the currency exchange.

Then you go back up the escalator to that Covid test office again and give them the payment receipt and the paperwork you completed earlier. She will give it back to you and point you further down the hallway to the medical lab door on the left. It says to wait but I had to walk right in to get the nurse's attention. She will give you the test and then you're good to leave the airport. I bought a local SIM for dirt cheap before leaving so that I could use Uber.

Uber pickup was difficult. There is a designated pickup area in the parking structure but for some reason the driver tried to find me outside baggage claim. And of course he spoke zero English. Maybe I should have waited to request Uber until I was at the exact pickup location. The walkway to the parking structure is near the escalators. Walk all the way to the end and turn left thru the glass door. Walk about 50 steps and you will see painted Uber and Bolt parking spots in the middle. There are no signs to help you find this.

After you get settled into your apartment and after stocking up on beer and food you need to log into the app and indicate you are ready to begin your self-quarantine. I was ready to get caught up on sleep anyhow and after I woke up I had an email that I tested negative and when I looked at the app it said I was cleared.

I've been to Lviv in summer and winter. In winter it is cold and may have a lot of snow. Most of the action is agencies and apartments. I was able to order a girl and she would come to the apartment I was in. But like everywhere else, what you see is not what you get. Just some observations from my time so far.

Not all girls that fuck for money are pros or even semi-pros. Some really do want one or as few "clients" as they can while making the income they want. Best way I can offer you to find "the apartments" is to find Darling Club and walk around the street in front of the club like a lost puppy late night on weekends. Guys called agents will approach you and ask if you want to visit apartments with girls. The ones I've met have been cool and trustworthy. I use three different agents and would give you a number or two if you could receive PMs.

Please report back your experience trying to find an agent and trying to find "the apartments". What goes around comes around.

I've only booked outcalls to the hotel, 2 indies and an agency (or Salon as they say in Ukraine) girl so far in my 3 days. Money can often turn maybe into yes. Try the following procedure. Ask the girl if she would like to meet you in person for drinks. Or, if you just met her in the street and it's harsh weather outside, ask if she wants to continue the conversation indoors. Then YOU choose the venue. Either nearest coffee shop, or typical mid-priced bar/restaurant with drinks for under 100uah, or fancy place like Avalon in center city of she's a recent arrival from some village and you want to show her how the oligarchs live. Wherever you go, tip decently, especially if you plan to return.

After talking a bit, if she seems like a good prospect, invite her to your apartment. As a follow up to my earlier report, I'll add my Self Isolation, Dii Vdoma experience and SIM card acquisition.

--Getting into Kiev and released from Quarantine.

After passport control, directly to your right there is a COVID PCR Testing station, you'll pay 1650 UAH for the test and get the results after about 6 hours, although it can take longer. They will register your UK number, but once you get a UA SIM you need to get this changed ASAP, this is important. Make sure you keep notes of your test number and the contact details for the testing company, I took pictures and stored them on my phone.

In the arrivals area you can find a kiosk selling UA SIMs as well as assorted Travelex style cash machines opposite. At this point you'll have no choice but to use them. You can buy a SIM with cash and the sales people will install it and configure it for you. One thing you need to be aware of though is that my SIM's SMS function never worked, I could neither send nor receive SMS for the duration of my visit. So ensure that this is working before you leave.

Once you get the SIM working, and withdrawn as much cash as you need to for the isolation period, get yourself to the hotel and complete the Dii Vdoma registration. When Dii Vdoma is complete, immediately call the lab and get the registered phone number changed from your UK to the UA SIM. Personally I waited too long to do this and I ended up having to self isolate 1 extra day.

When your negative test is confirmed by Dii Vdoma, you'll be released from self isolation, it can take up to 48 h for this, mine took 36 h and I'm sure this was because I changed the UA number after test results were already published.

If any of this process halts or encounters a problem, you will need help from someone local / Ukrainian speaker to help you escalate a solution. My suggestion if you have no one that can help, is that you ask the Hotel reception to intervene. I had my own contacts that helped me with this, as I neither got a confirmation email from the lab, not my test results as a PDF, after intervention, my contact got the results for me and I was able to have a discussion with the authorities to get released from Dii Vdoma, I used Telegram for this.

--How does Dii Vdoma work and can you get around it?

It is a smartphone app that monitors your position, and ensures that you self isolate. At various random intervals it did request that you take an instructed selfie and send to the authorities. You have to turn your head and make different gestures to ensure that it is actually you there and not a print out of your face.

I didn't get one of these requests before 10 am, and I didn't get one after 9 pm either. So I guess if you have more than one phone, you could sneak out later at night time, but that risk is on you.

When I had the negative test documented, however was still not released by Dii Vdoma, my local contact told me to just fuck it off and go out, then if questioned I should just flash the negative test. My contact said that everyone bends the rules there so just go for it. I did not do this as I am a very cautious person, but again, if you want to do this, I hear that locals do this all the time.

The workflow for Dii Vdoma is:

1. Install Dii Vdoma App.

2. Take the PCR test at airport terminal.

3. Buy a UA SIM Card.

4. Get to the Hotel.

5. Activate Dii Vdoma.

6. Obtain Negative PCR Test.

7. Lab sends result automatically to Dii Vdoma.

8. You are released from Self Isolation.

Wanted to share my experience. I had transit stop in Munich. At Kyiv passport control, I gave my passport along with last boarding pass (from Munich to Kyiv), it was unintentional, the lady at window told me I don't need the app since I came from Europe, not realizing it was just a transit stop.

After getting out of airport, I still installed the app, went to hospital to get tested, but it required local number and I only had my US phone number. After all struggle I gave up. There was no check while leaving the country either. Visit Ukraine is solid for Covid insurance but everything considered if you think your going to be okay if you get to the level where you need a ventilator let's be honest. It's 50% 50% survival rate in the US and I've heard first hand about the limitations of the public hospitals here in Kyiv let alone elsewhere. Your giving up superior medical care in the US.

As far as I understand from your posts Strip clubs are operating as usual. Night clubs are open. I am still not sure in weekdays before evening is it possible to eat something or have a lunch in a restaurant or a coffee in a cafeteria? My bank in the USA didn't allow me to send money to TransferWise because they are willing to send SMS with verification code only to US mobile phone or to call US landline phone to give the code, neither of which I have because I live in Europe. They don't call my US phone number I have with Skype. I can't use my banks in Europe because once I send my American passport to TransferWise, they only allowed me to use American banks.
