No, I didn't much like the Yordanos. Stuff was not working, falling off, falling down...just didn't like the place much. This was my first visit in December, 2002 so I can't say what it's like now. From there I moved to the Ibex, which I CAN recommend (but also more than 3 years out of date). I remember seeing the Axum as I was walking to My Pub. It looked pretty good and new.
Check out the usual Memo's night club and Dome at the concord hotel. My pub used to be good but on the last visit not a great selection there. Unfortunately Both Milk houses have closed down, a shame as they often had a decent selection of girls to be picked up early hours of the evening. One would usually then find them in either Memos or Concord. However, go to this clubs after midnight.
Has anyone been to this place called "Cave"? I heard that it is a kind of private dance club which is located on the way to the airport. It sounds like something new. But I knew that there were some strip clubs that were raided and shut down by the authorities a couple of years ago.

Try the massage in the basement of the global hotel. There used to be another place run by the same people in an apartment block on Bole Road. Just ask them where exactly.

The security situation is reported to be calm except for the Piazza-area and Mercato.
So after dark "Concorde" and "Memo" will be available as usual- and safe. They usually fill around 11pm to midnight, and are packed.
There is another club close by Sheraton, but I didn't check it out yet.

I didn't see anyone mention this yet but there are now at least two ATMs that accept foreign bank cards in Addis Ababa. They are both Dashen machines; one is on the ground floor of the Dembel Building, towards the south end; and one is in the Sheraton. Dashen charged me $5 and my bank charged me $1.50 - much better than getting cash against your credit card.
Reading this forum, it seems that nothing much has changed in Addis since I was there as a backpacker 35 years ago. The prices of the girls seem actually to be about the same as pre-revolution. Then again, the economy has been deteriorating since then. Back then price for LT from the Ghion (night club) was US$6 which is about US$30 in todays currency. That was pricey. Sometimes one would encounter a half-Italian half-Ethiopian girl. A pretty waitress working in a coffee/beer bar was US$3 LT. I remember the women as being very good looking, evidence of which I have yet to see in this forum (not a criticism). I'm sure that you guys aren't meeting the best lookers.
Almost all of the girls who worked in the local hotels, local bars and coffee houses were rentable. It came with the job. In fact, often there were almost as many staff as there were rooms. It used to be that the lookers were located in the motel bars on the outskirts of town accessible only to the middle class with cars. Many local guys would disparage the bar girls, offering to bring you a HS student to your room for US$2.
In my opinion the best looking African girls are Ethiopians, and of those, the Afar or Danakil.
Ethiopia is a fantastic country, number one for its diversity of scenery, geopraphy, climate and culture. Get out and see it before it disappears. The girls are pretty too. Asmara was my favorite city of all time: good food and perfect climate. I'm told that it is a mess today, so I won't be returning there.
There is a downside to the country: bad food, lack of hygiene, many diseases, people who can be very unfriendly in some parts of the country, and Addis is still a dive according to a friend who just returned from the city..

I think it more less depends on the guy. When I was there, people did not even know I was from the US, unless they would hear my accent. Desalegn Hotel is opposite the European Union Building. The road is refered to as "EU Road" since very few streets in Addis have street names.
I got the impression the girls were available but would not come to your room if you were staying at the Desalegn. Some other arrangement has to be made.

I can confirm that in West Africa girls are very eager. I visit Gambia and had more girls then my capacity. Ethiopian girls are a conservative and thus who are not, you need to know where to find them. Also accommodation cost triple then in West Africa and no beach or natural attractions. You're right, Global Hotel massage is nothing special. Very few 'massage' parlours in Addis because sex is so readily available. Concorde Disco, Memos, Milk Bar, Hilton. Just go for it.

I went here sympathetic to a view that Ethiopians are arrogant (abit like what is widely viewed of Israelis). I was very much on the look out for this and I am glad to report that this is not the case. Ethiopians are very proud and with very good reason. But being proud and being arrogant are two different things and Ethiopians are definitely the former.
OK – down to brass tacks. If you are visiting Ethiopia primarily for mongering / picking up a new wife then you are making a mistake. There are far better options available. Notably, Ghana and Kenya, both of which I have visited (read my reports on both on this site).
This is all simply down to what has been said time and time again. Generally speaking, Ethiopians aren’t that hot in bed. Sure, you will get the odd blow job if your lucks up but you won’t be receiving blow jobs from ladies that just can’t believe their luck that they are in bed with you with the corresponding enthusiasm expressed on your wood. I didn’t really get a sense that there are as many after-a-marriage type chicks in Ethiopia as there are in Kenya and Ghana. Chicks that are after your money because they are a prostitute: sure, they are everywhere in Ethiopia.
Arrived in Addis and went to Concord. Its quite small and too dark but this is the best place to pick up ho’s in Addis. On, say, a Wednesday night, it would have at least 20 unmatched chicks. Some will be right sorts. 8’s and above.
Quick note to say, Ethiopian chicks in Addis have Caucasian style bodies. But they don’t tend to have big tits. So no African ass but, hey, gravity defying boobs. Also let’s talk about attractiveness. You are only going to see stunners left, right and centre in Addis. I went North to Barar Dah, Lalibela and Axum. In those towns an 8+ would be rare. Plenty of 7’s though. Generally, obesity is very rare in both sexes.
Back to club scene in Addis: I would say Friday is the crappest night to go to Concord as most ho’s go to Gaslight. I didn’t go to Gaslight (nightclub at the Sheraton) as they have a trousers and shoes dress policy (attempted bribe didn’t work). So upon refused entry I went back to Concord and there was noticeably less chicks than on any other night.
Another club to check out is Memo. Here there will be a bit more Western music and more expats. I wouldn’t recommend this place though as my friend who I hooked up with had a few moody encounters with geezers there. Eg Chick would heavily flirt with him and he gets told to fuck off by her boyfriend. Another chick heavily flirted with him and then a boyfriend turns up and gets her outside. My mate goes out to have a look and gets a little bit – not too bad – of attempted intimidation tactics to give money for some drinks. Maybe we had a bad night but never encountered any of that shit in Concorde.
Chicks will be fairly open about their profession. Ask them what they do for a job and quite a few will say “I work here”. If you do go for one I would strongly recommend sorting out the price 1st. But don’t bring it up straight away and try and do it gently. These aren’t girls who will be happy for the cab fare home as they are just dying for you, they are ho’s and they will want, I found, 300birr minimum £18 US$33. There are a lot of nice private owned hotels in Lalibella in that price category which seems a much better deal. Had a nice donkey ride to Asheton Maryam monastery, leaving at sunrise the second day. Was also the day I decided to hit the bars which are located in some side street below “town square”. Anyway, was told that the bloody hotel wasn’t very GF, so booked a room in a simpler guesthouse. Actually quite good for only 80 birr. Avoid this hotel chain is my recommendation.
All the girls in those bars are available, but do not speak English, so I went with two local boys I befriended the day before. A few beers and decided to take the best looking one. There are 3-4 ATM locations in Addis that I know of. Sheraton, Hilton, and Adams Pavillion where Dashen Bank has ATMs. They take international Visa debit cards no problem up to 4, 000 Birr per transaction.
All major hotels also have forex bureaus.

Another interesting thing I noticed was their time, they add 6 more hours to whatever time you have in your watch (and I mean after you have adjusted your time to the Ethiopian time zone). For them midnight takes place at 6 am.

There seems to be little action on the ethiopia thread. Why not start a new discussion on the possibilities of Addis?
I have been to Addis a number of times in the last few years and met some of the most amazing chicks. To score is very very easy. Most girls are pretty, some are even outrageously attractive and many of them are attracted to ferengi (foreigners). Be it for the expectation of money or more.
In case one needs a fast one there are lots of rather young and pretty girls on the streets after 20. 00 hours around Atlas Hotel, along the 'EU-road' and in many little bars. It is not necessary to go to Concorde, Hilton etc, they are everywhere.
The problem though is the language, only few speak English, but there is always a way around.

Dear Steve and Jim,
the problem is not to rent anything in Addis but to find it. The city - despite a contsruction boom - is still short of decent housing as the number of expats and AU/UN officials is ever increasing. I am currently in Addis and had no problem as a foreigner to rent anything.
Most landlords want to rent out accommodation for a year (payment in advance). There are a few bed& B places and lots of hotels of all qualities. But I must admit that I have not yet heard of arrangements whereby one can rent a self-equipped and anonymous appartment for a week or a month.
If you are worried about getting your girl into the hotel, this is not a big deal. I stayed at the Hilton for a month and had no problems to take anybody upstairs - even over night. For a quick one just go to any of the many small hotels around Atlas Hotel. For something like 50 Birr you can rent a simple room for a quick fuck. These hotels serve just this kind of purpose. But be careful which kind of girl you are taking to such a hotel, some might be offended and expect better treatment!

Hotels of a better standard (perhaps I am a bit fussy) are the Desalegn, the beer garden inn (have in-house brewed German-style beer and great food! ), the Hotel de Leopol, the Ghion (although old and the rooms are a bit smelly), the Atlas Hotel, and perhaps also the Mariot (not to be confused with the luxury chain), are all close to the Bole Area and close to some of the clubs and can be recommended. However, the prices are usually between 60 and 120 USD. While hotels may not be as cheap as in other parts of Africa, food, drinks and girls are dirt-cheap! You would have to find out about how girl-friendly these hotels are (as I live currently here I don't use hotels) from taxi-drivers or perhaps some other mongers can help!
It is advisable to have a 'guide' with you when you are going on out looking for girls. Most of them don't speak English very well and will try to overcharge. Make sure that you indicate to them if you like oral satisfaction (justuse sign-language).
You find good looking girls for a quick one on the EU-road and around Atlas Hotel. You can also find them in many small bars and clubs (usually those with some 'Christmas' decorations = lots of small lights). Some of the small clubs have rooms to rent out for the urgent customer.
You can go by car to Lalibela, Aksum, Gondar etc. But mnake sure you have a working 4WD with a driver. To drive by urself might be tough and difficult because of the language!

Anyway, about Addis, believe me it’s not a problem to score. It just depends on how much you want to spend. Since I am a ferngi the girls always ask for like 300 birr to 100 dollars. LOL! Taxis, forget about it. Unless you get a normal taxi expect to pay 400 or 500 percent more then the normal Habasha. They don’t have meters here so the driver can charge what ever he wants to. If he sees that you are ferngi, you will get cheated. That’s why I always walk from now on. Fuck them. That means after 8 or 9 pm here I often don’t go far from my home, not that I have far to go, but I would like to get out and explore other areas of the city to see what the mongering is like.
Now for the good stuff; Bole, Bole Madania (spelling?), and more close to my home Meskal flower seem like the spots where the SW’s hang out. Meskal Flower seems to be the best bargain for me. I won’t pay more then 50 birr or 100 for an all-nighter. The cheapest I was able to come across was a hoe for 20 birr. I just had to try her out and she was not half bad. You can expect to pay around 300 birr for the girls on Bole. Also there is a street that runs from Bole to Bole Madania, but I can’t think of the name of it off hand, because the streets here have no name. Anyway you can find them there also. If you want the really expensive stuff like 1000 to 3000 birr a night you can go to Platinum or the night clubs in Piazza. It’s not my style though. Just can’t see spending that kind of money for pussy.
One thing I have noticed here about the girls is that they are not clock watchers, like other countries I have been to, including my own. I am from the states.
Over all compared to other places I have been too. Addis is expensive compared to what I make in other cities. I have a low salary here and the price of products including pussy here is expensive. I am still deciding weather or not to stay. I probably won’t know until my contract almost runs out.

Unrenowned to me I had no idea that prostitution was legal. Hell I just wanted my passport back. Next time I see this ***** I will slap her good one. I've spent the last 3 months in Kenya and Tanzania and am now ready to move on (my ticket takes me to Nairobi then Kampala then Addis. Wondering how much time to allocate to each. I found the situation in Kenya good. Most girls are available for 1000 KS (Euro 10) for all night. The standard is a bit mixed, but as it's off season there are not many other western guys here. I hear mixed reports about Addis. The girls have a reputation for being much prettier than elsewhere in East Africa, but it seems ore difficult to find girls on the dating and other net sites. Also hotel costs seem likley to be more expensive than here in Kenya where one can find nice rooms on the coast for 10 Euro. LosoIMHO: Club Platinum is not nearly the biggest or best disco in Africa, and there were about 3-4 times as many guys as girls the few times I've been there. It is very nice, big and the waitresses are smokin hot, and the hotel upstairs has great rooms, but unless something has changed recently, it's not the best spot to find women in Addis.

i've been in addis 2 nights now.
firstly i earlier asked a question re wifi enabled hotel rooms. i have managed to find somewhere with pretty decent in room hifi at a non extortionate price.
it's the meridian hotel on bole rd (about 10 minutes in the direction of tow from the airport). it's not the international french chain just a medium sized hotel ripping off their brand. they claim gthey only had a suite room left (implausible) and were asking usd 78 per night, but came down to usd 58 per night. room is very spacious with large comfortable king sized bed, frdige, decent satellite tv, breakfast and clean bathroom. the taxi driver took me to a couple of budget options first in the usd 20-30 range, but they were really not very pleasant unless you are on a tight budget. given the convenience of in room wifi its a good option for those with a laptop.
addis is a very sprawling and not particularly charming city. unlike other large cities it doesn't have a concentrated old quarter, tghings are very spread out and taxis will typically charge foreigners $1-5 (generally they will ask for 5 and you have to bargain down if you know its a short distance.

on the first nighgt i went to the memo club off bole rd. it was saturday and therefore absolutely packed. there were an equal number of guys to girls. the guys being amixture of tourists, expats, chinese and locals. pretty much all the local girls there are hookers. quite a few good loking but none really stunning. the asking price for freigners is 600 birr (60usd) for the whole night. they will generally come down to 500 birr without much prolem but it will take time to get them down to 400 birr (at least if you are anewby foreigner). i took one and she gave good service for an hour. then she started calling a friend and came up with some excuse that her freind didn't have the room key so she had to go. when i said i didn't believe her she suddenly said that she felt very i'll and so had to go home, again i didn't believe her. i said if she wanted to go she could take 250 birr but she was only getting 400 birr for the whole night. eventually after a lot of complaining she left with 250. tonight i ended up in a nice genuinely ethiopian nightclub 200 metres down bole rd from the meridian. actually it was a fun place, i was the only foreigner so unlike other such traditional shows in other parts of africa this wasn't just put on for the tourists. typical ethiopian food takes a bit of getting used to. it will generally come with injera. this is a large (initially rolled up piece of tef (local crop) a bit like a pancake but it looks like stale tripe. you are supposed to unroll this and then pour your food eg a stew onto it then tear bit off and wrap chunks of meat up and eat it (all with your right hand). anyhow in these places you will notice a rep001tering of pretty young woman siting in ones and twos nursing a beer or coke. they are freelancers and you can sit by any start a conversation and see where it goes. generally they will speak adequate english. ethiopian kids (at least in addis) all now learn english at school and in senior school some subjects such as science are taught in english as is most university education. the very beautiful slim one i chose to sit next to was pretty relaxed and friendly. i asked if she wanted to come to my hotel and she again started at 600 birr this time short time. definitely foreigner prices. eventually she came down to 300 birr (30 usd) for short time but 2 shots. when she got back to the hotel she was pretty indifferent in bed and after the first time started getting dressed. we argued and she claimed i hadn't mentioned 2 shots etc etc (complete rubbish we had discussed it in some detail. so i said if she wanted to go she could take 200 birr and if she wanted 300 birr she had better get ready for a second session. she started complaining so i just took her bag put 200 birr in it and took it out of the room, then pulled her out of the room and locked the key. she banged on the door a bit then left.
i think the message for newbies in addis is that you may well run into this sort of behavior, and personally i think you need to be firm but fair in dealing with it. the fact of the matter is that 200 birr is very good money in africa. i don't know what office girls get here in addis but in nairobi (a richer country, they get about 8 usd a day if they are very lucky with decent qualifications.),
the attitude i have encountered here in addis contrast hugely with my experiences in kenya and uganda over the last 3 months. a pretty girl in uganda will ask a foreigner for 40-50, 000 ugs (about usd 30) for the whole night. for that you can expect wildly enthusiastic sex including bj s 4 times a night until you want her to leave in the morning. in nairobi the price for similar all night service is 1500-2000 kes ((about 22- 30 usd) for similar as much as you can take service. on the kenyan coast you are talking 800-1500 depending on the season. this is for very good looking girls, obviously for less good looking girls the rates are quite a bit lower (conversely if you are new in tow and don't know how to bargain, you may end up paying more.)

i've been in addis 2 nights now.
firstly i earlier asked a question re wifi enabled hotel rooms. i have managed to find somewhere with pretty decent in room hifi at a non extortionate price.
it's the meridian hotel on bole rd (about 10 minutes in the direction of tow from the airport). it's not the international french chain just a medium sized hotel ripping off their brand. they claim gthey only had a suite room left (implausible) and were asking usd 78 per night, but came down to usd 58 per night. room is very spacious with large comfortable king sized bed, frdige, decent satellite tv, breakfast and clean bathroom. the taxi driver took me to a couple of budget options first in the usd 20-30 range, but they were really not very pleasant unless you are on a tight budget. given the convenience of in room wifi its a good option for those with a laptop.

I made very similar experience and got the same conclusion about Addis. I guess those who praise Addis as a monger paradis are often local guys who want offer themself as a paid guide or have other comercial interests.

I was in Platinum the other night. It’s a total meat market. Yea, there are a lot of good-looking girls there. There were some ferengi girls there, although not for sale. I found a girl that asked 400 at first and then countered with 50. 400 Birr is insulting to me since I have been here for a few months and understand how they think. But there are a lot of girls on that street late at night and the same goes for Piazza or pretty much any bar that stays open late at night.
The taxi home is another story. The guy quoted me 10 Birr to go to Wollo Sufer and it’s reasonable. So I get to my location and the guy whips out a 1 Birr note and says I did not pay enough. What a joke! I just left and started walking. Everyone needs to use extreme caution when using contract taxies, especially after having a few drinks since they are the biggest rip offs in the world. No joke here. I have been on 5 continents and they are by far the worst here.
On a side note, I will still try to upload psycho girl at another time, when I have a better connection. This will probably happen when I am out of the country.

I took advantage of a Lufthansa promotion to book a cheap ticket from Brussels to Addis Ababa. The plane made a short stop in Khartoum in both directions.

Visas on arrival are available at the airport for 20 USD (or 17 EUR).
Money
There is a Dashen Bank money exchange booth before immigration. After you’ve had your passport stamped, you can change cash at the Bank of Ethiopia. Both banks offer the same exchange rates.
There is no ATM at the airport.
Airport Transfer
Ignore the touts and walk down to the car park. The taxis started off by asking for 75 ETB for the short ride into town. They wouldn’t go for 50 ETB, but settled for 60 ETB.
When I spotted a van from the Desalegn Hotel, I got a free ride to the hotel of my choice. The hotel also offered a free shuttle back to the airport.
Accommodation
Desalegn Hotel #3
Based on recommendations in the Lonely Planet guide and Internet research, the Desalegn was my hotel of choice. But there are 3 Desalegn hotels in Addis Ababa...
The Desalegn #1 is an older hotel that’s not particularly recommended. I gathered the Desalegn #2 was the hotel mentioned in the LP guide. I ended up at the Desalegn #3 by mistake, but that turned out to be the place where I intended to stay. How 2 wrongs can make a right! I still don’t have a clue where the Desalegn #2 is located.
The Desalegn #3 is on Mike Leyland St, better known as EU Rd. The European Union building is just across the street. At night, streetwalkers hang out on the stretch between the hotel and the corner with Cameroon St. Continue along Mike Leyland St and you’ll discover tons of Christmas light bars. For a monger, the hotel location couldn’t be more perfect!
The bedroom is spacious and looks great. It features a sitting area with sofas, a comfortable bed and a balcony. Room amenities include an empty fridge and cable TV, but no in-room safe. A huge boiler provides hot water in the rather Spartan bathroom.
The hotel does have a generator, but that doesn’t mean you’ll have electricity 24 hours a day. When there’s a brownout during the daytime, they generally won’t switch the generator on. Sometimes the generator only powers the lights, while the hot water boilers remain switched off until the evening. Don’t expect your laundry to be ready when there’s a brownout either. In a cheap hotel, one might expect this. Staying at an upscale hotel, which charges 75 USD/night, one expects better service. In a country where brownouts are extremely frequent, 24/7 electricity and hot water are basic services every upscale hotel should provide. The Desalegn Hotel fell way short of that requirement.
Breakfast is included in the room rate, and is served from 6.30 until 10.30 AM. The breakfast buffet offers little joy for meat lovers. When available, the bacon was extremely salty.
The hotel does not accept 1996 series USD bills, while the money exchangers do. You can pay by credit card, but they charge 4% commission.
In short, I loved the location and really liked the rooms... but I wasn’t exactly impressed with the service.
Location, Location!
Other upscale hotels I considered because of their location:
- Global Hotel
* Beyne Abasebsib St
* Close to the Hotel Concorde (Dome Club).
* Not far from the streetwalker scene on Meskal Flower Rd.
- Novotel Hotel
* The LP guide mentioned a Novotel construction site on Bole Rd. Judging from the state of the building, it seems to be decaying. Pity it may never open.
* It would have been the perfect location to explore:

Online Reservations
Only the most upscale hotels in Addis Ababa (Hilton and Sheraton) can be booked online. The Sheraton hotel has villas available for over 10.000 USD/ night! Just in case an oil sheik is reading this report. :)

New York New York
My favorite restaurant was New York New York on Bole Rd. Popular with locals and expats, the restaurant offers a varied menu and the odd freelancer. One of the waitresses is scorching hot!
Green View Restaurant
The Green View restaurant, where I often had dinner, is an upscale Italian joint close to the Desalegn Hotel. Make sure you get what you order. When my steak was served with rabbit food instead of French fries, I had the waitress check the menu. A few minutes later, I was served a large portion of Belgium’s staple food. :)
Pizza World
Also on Mike Leyland St, Musita is a club featuring live music. The restaurant downstairs is called Pizza World. The menu is limited, but they serve good eats and... they’re open late.
One of the waitresses from Musita often comes down to the restaurant to fetch cold drinks from the fridge. A stunning beauty!
Local Food
Injera is Ethiopia’s staple food. It’s spread out like a pancake, with food heaped on top of it. Some foreigners have mistaken it for the table cloth. :) Injera replaces cutlery, as you use it to grab pieces of food. Its slightly bitter taste goes well with typically spicy Ethiopian food.
McDonald’s
Ethiopia is the 4th biggest country in the world... without a McDonald’s. :)
Transportation
Taxis are everywhere, but they don’t have meters and grossly overcharge foreigners. If you can figure out where they’re headed, minibuses are supposedly a great way to get around. I simply walked everywhere...
The only time I took a taxi was from Memo’s back to my hotel with evil Betty. The driver asked for 50 ETB, and wouldn’t accept 20 ETB. When I started walking towards Bole Rd, he settled for 30 ETB.
SIM Card
Hotels rent SIM cards for 50 ETB/day. Buying an Ethiopian SIM card will set you back around 400 ETB, and they’re supposedly in short supply. I didn’t need a SIM card while in Addis Ababa...
ATM Machines
Dashen bank is the only Ethiopian bank to provide ATM machines. The most useful locations for foreigners are at the Hilton & Sheraton hotels, and in the Dembel Center on Bole Rd. Enter the Dembel building, turn left and the ATM machine is at the end of the corridor.
The Dashen bank ATMs only accept VISA cards!
Climate
Due to its altitude (over 2000m) and equatorial location, Addis Ababa has a temperate climate year-round. Average daytime temperatures hover around 20°C (68°F). At night, the average temperature drops to between 12 and 14°C (54-57°F). Addis Ababa is not exactly a tropical paradise!
Safety
General
Addis Ababa is essentially a safe city. This white boy stuck out like a sore thumb. Yet I walked everywhere, even at night, and never saw any sign of trouble or violence.
Siren Scam
The most common scam in Addis Ababa is the siren scam, whereby you’re invited to someone’s home to watch a traditional dance performance. In the end, you’re presented with a huge bill for the tej (honey wine). One of the guys who approached me claimed he was from New York. New York, Ethiopia! :)

Past the corner with Cameroon St, heading towards Bole Rd, you’ll discover a multitude of little bars decorated with Christmas lights. The available girls often stand outside the bar to draw the punters in. If there are no girls on display, you can always poke your head inside the door...
Most bars are hole-in-the-wall places with just a handful of girls. The quality is a notch up from the streetwalkers. Unfortunately, many of the girls don’t speak a word of English. But they all speak the international language of love... :)
With the right girl, these tiny bars can be good fun. Buy your favorite girl a drink, and she may dance in your lap, stick her tongue down your throat or shove her tits in your face. Pick the wrong girl and she’ll sit demurely by your side...
The bars often try to overcharge faranji. Always ask the price beforehand. Beers should cost around 10 ETB. Some girls will order a simple beer. Others will hit you for an expensive Red Bull. In the Mike Leyland St bars, I always paid 400 ETB LT. One of the mamasans told me the girl had to pay the bar 50 ETB commission. Locals or other Africans may be asked to pay in advance. Apparently, they often fuck the girls without paying them.

Reports suggest that Christmas light bars can be found all over town. Walking around, I only spotted a couple of bars on DR Congo St. I never checked out the Piazzi backpacker area, which is also supposed to be littered with little bars.

The punters were a mix of expats, locals, other Africans and... Chinese. :eek: I was aware Chinese entrepreneurs were venturing into Africa. I knew Chinese companies imported laborers to work on huge infrastructure projects. But I didn’t figure the often racist Chinese would be into African girls.

I was in dallas, texas the other day to visit a long lost friend of mine when I ran into an Ethiopian doctor who has been working in the local area for a couple of years. I asked him a lot about Ethiopia and he sincerely told me everything about it. I told him that I was there once and we started our chat from there.
FACT: The highest consumers of ethio pros are ethio men both married and single. Most married ethio men have mistresses on the side. The mistress can be a pro or a non-pro. Most prefer the pros for obvious reasons.
FACT: Whites are accepted well in the entire community. Most whites are professionals. Most ethios are racist towards other africans. They are called BARIAS, an amharic word for slave. They used to call their own president (mengistu) the same thing because of his facial features. Ethiopians consider themselves different. He told me that he would rather see an ethio woman with white than with non white.
FACT: Once the sun goes down, it is hard to tell pros from non-pros. The best girls to pick are street walkers. These tend to be students even office workers. Salary in Ethiopia is not good. Some just go out to earn some extra cash. One can even find newbies for cheap. Club girls can be pros and non pros. The number of non-pros is small though. U may have to talk to many to find one. If you find one, you are the luckiest. U can fuck the hell out of her for free since she is there just to have a good time over the weekend. The pros in the clubs are very expensive. All small bar girls are pros. Their price is reasonable and one can have good looking ones if you pay a little more. These girls could be a little tired though.
FACT: Oromos are the majority in ethiopia. Addis is a kind of mixed but the number of amharas is a little higher. All are okay for a fuck. GURAGES who are minority are the best for marriage. TIGRES come close second. Best looking girls are ADERES. This is another ethnic group. They are mostly found in southern part of the country. Amaharas are also beautiful. The best place to find a non circumsized ethio chick is in WELLO which is found near bahir dar. Rent a car and drive there.
FACT: It is true that ethio chicks do not like oral and anal. Once in a while one can get some who do it though. For those who stay there longer, it is better to have a non-pro and train her over time with patience.

Just arrived in Addis, and like any good social scientist, I decided to replicate the distinguished findings of those who have come before me. The adventures reported by Loso69 in his excellent posts provide exquisite detail, and triangulation of his report will confirm the essentials every monger needs for a quick in and out of Addis. Is sum, he is very accurate. I will not duplicate what was already posted, but offer a few additional points and some description of my encounters on the first day.
From the airport, I paid 65 Birr, for a cab (exchange is about US$ 1 = 10 Birr). This is more than an Ethiopian would pay I am sure, but it was easy and not devastatingly high. The cabbie knew Mikey Leyland Road, and took me right to the Desalegn. A single room charge is US$ 76, with simple but comfortable rooms. The hotel offers free Wifi, pool tables in the basement and a very rudimentary gym in the back building. You can rent a phone SIM card from the hotel boys (30 Birr per day), and charge it up as buying one is very difficult for foreigners, but you have to deal with the local calls coming in looking for the bell hop.
As evening set it, I walked down towards Cameroon St. (on the right as you exit the Desaleng) and there are immediately seen a variety of bars and restaurants. Cross Cameroon St. and these places make up almost the entirety of the buildings on either side of Leyland. (Conversely,if you go left from the hotel, towards Africa Avenu, there is a place that advertises “spa” facilities with pictures of nearly nude women in various states of resort indulgence, but I have yet to visit to see what lies inside.)
After crossing Cameroon St. I had a fine Ethiopian coffee in my fist stop, at about 6 PM, and life was very slow. I traveled to the end of Leyland and had a beer (over the night, I paid between 5 and 10 Birr at most places for beer, St. Georges Lager being my favorite). I saw a lot of very pretty girls walking about, and a few bars were charging up with people. My tootometer was not indicating the presence of working girls, but I did get a few smiles and waves.
At about 7 PM I began to spot a few obvious pros, indicated by a “hello”, “hi honey” and other obvious communications from their side. I stuck to bars with tables on the sidewalk and the professional traffic going up and down got much heavier, and the small Christmas light bars started to be more active. I check out a few, but found some with nary a girl, and some with not so cute girls, and one with only two girls, one of which was exactly what I was looking for. Beza was 20 yrs old, spoke some English, and epitomized my ideal of Ethiopian beauty--slender, fine featured and fair skinned.
She at first offered that I buy her a green label whisky, but I bought her a beer considering what a whisky charge would be, and she chugged this beer and ordered another one without asking. This seemed expensive given what previous reports indicate, but I agreed as jet lag was setting in and I didn’t know how much more wandering I could tolerate (she wanted 500 Birr LT, but I find that usually after the first 30 minutes they are just bored and want to leave anyhow, so why bother) .
The beer bill came, and they charged 15 Birr per bottle (5 more than was indicated when I asked the price). Lesson 1—pay for the beer as it comes and do not wait for the final bill in these smaller monger holes. I got a cab home, and for the four minute ride the cabbie wanted 50 Birr. After bickering he reluctantly accepted 22 Birr. Lesson 2—although 20 Birr had been mentioned, it would have been better to get this very clear before even entering the cab. The hotel staff did not blink an eye when I cam in with Beza, and she was up for business as soon as the door closed and I handed over the 300 Birr (about US$30). She was a decent performer (about a 6 or 7, with appropriate moans and twists), but preferred the missionary and little else aside from straight sex.
At the end, she was just as quick to put on her clothes and beg her leave. Tonight jet lag should be diminished as well as my pent up desires, and armed with my personal insights I will spend a bit more in-depth time searching options, so lesson 3—always be willing to walk away in order to secure a fair price will be applied.

FACT: Whites are accepted well in the entire community. Most whites are professionals. Most ethios are racist towards other africans. They are called BARIAS, an amharic word for slave. They used to call their own president (mengistu) the same thing because of his facial features. Ethiopians consider themselves different. He told me that he would rather see an ethio woman with white than with non white.
Ethiopians accept everybody whether black or white I've been going there since 2004 I'm black and know a little Amharic. Never heard the word Barias or being treated differently because of my complexion 80 million people and only one perspective reading the above. I know of Ethiopians who dislike white people I don't bring their opinions here less we forget Ethiopia wasn't conquered by any European nation. The Italians were there for only around five years during WW2.
Does this mean that the majority white Americans are right wing racist zenaphobic idiots? Over 250 million Americans I'm sure the white people amongst them don't. All feel the same about Arabs, Africans, Asians and Jews etc I want to read reports about sex.
Not rantings by a guy I suspect doesn't really like black people and seeks out one Ethiopian out of 80 million who might share his views. That his business its better to keep it to himself.

Ethiopian people don’t care about race any more. What matters to them is money. They fought bloody war with the Somalis in Ogaden in 1977. After Bare was over thrown in 1991, Ethiopians entertained a lot of Somali refugees by renting them their homes. Once they were bloody enemies but now they became great friends because they need each other to survive.
Let me get back to the point in question: the availability of Ethiopian women to mongers of different race. Yes they are available indeed. I have seen Arabs, blacks and whites treated equally by Ethiopian woman. Ethiopia is the poorest nation on this earth and money talks here. As I said time and again in my previous posting, pay them right and do not inflate the price and treat Ethiopian woman with respect. This is a culturally conservative and secretive society. Traditionally Ethiopian men can have more than one girlfriends and the Ethiopian term for mistress is “Wushima”. Sex workers were introduced during Italian occupation in the years 1941-45. Since then prostitution has been widely known and practiced in Ethiopia. There used to be a spot called doro manekia back in the days known for street action. You could get a quickie action anywhere from 10 to 15 Ethiopian Birr. I do not recommend mongers to utilize that spot alone at night. You can also get working girls from bars and restaurants. You can buy them a glass of tea and negotiate the price and take them to the room. Always be firm with price and tell them that you know the market. Knowing few word helps. I will be listing few words that will help break the ice.

Further updates from Addis:
The city apparently has several areas similar to Mike Leyland Road, one of which is Bole St. about five or six blocks up from where it meets Leyland towards the center of town. This was told to me by a taxi driver when I asked about the proliferation of bars in this area. But I have not yet explored the area.
Just outside the Desalegn, to the right when you exit the building, there are usually SWs hanging about from 8 PM onwards. They are much more populous in the strip leading on to Cameroon Rd., or at least more obvious, than near the Christmas light bars. They range in quality, and are usually a bit older or younger than the bar girls. A bit cheaper too, but as always with SWs, they seem a bit more inclined towards thievery.
In one of the traditional Ethiopian restaurants I spied a very beautiful waitress named Meron (seems to be a very popular name here). She was probably one of the prettiest girls I had seen in country, so I flirted to see if she were game or not. Game she was, but she had to go directly home when she got off work and gave me her phone number readily with a promise to meet during the daytime. Nice to know this is an option—can’t say she is a pro, but at least she is willing to meet up with a foreign stranger who had obvious mischief on his mind.
As an end note, on one of my earlier forays down Leyland, a very comely lass standing in a doorway caught my eye (most of the bars had their doors closed, but a few had girls out front to catch strays) so I entered. There were a few men in the place, friendly folk, Ethiopian born but been living in the US for some years. They were equally enthralled with girls and it was quite fun.
Had a few beers and flirted with girls, but the cutest one seemed occupied with a guy who was buying her beers (the gals were all aggressive about asking for drinks, and not satisfied with just one, and it is easy to run up a big bill if you are feeling generous). On my way out another of the girls who was also attractive followed me and offered to come along for 200 Birr. OK, come on. Then she called to her friend, the one I had an eye for, who came out and joined us. So both came back. Ended up being 400 Birr for the two of them, and they were obviously very good friends. Coincidently, I believe there are the same two girls Loso posted photos of on the forum, so I am posting pictures as well to demonstrate their enduring qualities.

Steve, you are right on.
Before going to Africa I had assumed it would be more like Asia, with cheap guest houses all over. This still might be the case, but I am hard pressed to find them, and usually have to stay in very overpriced rooms. I now realize just how expensive Africa is to the non-local. Addis was a bit different, in that there seemed to be a lot of cheap, clean hotels--some advertised as cheaper than the Desalegn.
You might need to get the skinny from old Africa hands--my times on the continent are usually limited to short stints that don't accomodate a lot of exploration.

The hotel number 3 appears to be out near the airport so 2 must be the one close to the centre and the EU road? Can anyone clarify and even offer some contact details? I normally use the Queen of Sheba but this sounds to be better placed.

Good question. I guess Eritrea has not a good infrastructur (Hotels, Restaurants, etc.) also the UN and other organisations which have sent troops to Eritrea have spoil the prices.

My knowledge is admittedly way out of date, as I have not been to Eritrea in 6 or 7 years. However, I used to go there a lot for work, and I never had less than an excellent time. There were three or four major chick pick up points and I never got hassled. I found the Eritrean ladies more laid back, more eager to please and generally better in bed than their Ethiopian sisters. Maybe things have changed somewhat since then, but I always really enjoyed Asmara.

W/o a question Eritrean chicks are much better than Ethiopians. I was in Ethiopia years ago and I was disappointed too. Hard to find a girl who will do what you want. Some are reluctant even to change positions. I was slapped once. It is true they are beautiful, but so are the girls in kenya, so are the girls in ghana, so are the girls in south america. I had one Ethiopian girl while I was in Dubai and it was basically the worst fuck I ever had. Maybe I was not lucky to meet a good one but from some of the posts I have read, I am not the only one who is not happy. Eritrean chicks are of another breed. I had two in Dubai and they were the greatest. I was not rushed and I really had a good time with them. Remember they are more beautiful than Ethio chicks. Eventhough my experience with eritrean chicks is limited to only two, I have a friend who only goes out with eritrean chicks. Pros and non pros. He is the happiest man I ever know. The non pros can be trained very easily. After just a couple of days, you can have them do whatever you want. I am not talking about some weird stuff here. I am talking about something which we consider normal here like BJ, anal and so forth. My friend has been in asmara just last year. The non pros are very easy to get. As a matter of fact, easier than the pros. Good luck and post your experience if you go there.
