Most girls you contact especially on tinder with decent English are students and out of them probably 80% are outright hookers which will hit you with fees from 100 k to 200 k. TZS. Kigamboni is far from the action and the city center. It's a beach area south of Dar. Not a good place for action. For a few days on the beach ok. There's loads of local eateries. The only place I found really good spicy food was Zanzibar. Dar only decent food I came across and it's expensive is in Oyster bay or in some malls like Mlimani mall. There's no such a thing as heavily tourist areas. Most tourists fly to Zanzibar. There's loads of beaches around Dar but I'd recommend to book a few days only in Kigamboni. There's nothing. And especially not a lot of pussy. Better you stay on the northern axis, that's Mbezi beach area. In Dar it's better to use pay for play. There's only 2 notable areas. Low cost. Sinza. And high cost expat area in Oyster bay / Masaki. There you find expensive western style food. And finally. Learn basic Kiswahili.

Recent visit to Addis.

Beggars everywhere the area around Edna mall is not safe after dark, clubs are near empty.

Had a horrific experience in Paje in Zanzibar last night.

But the thing is, it was still a simple beach. And only one of the guys had a khaki t-shirt. And they didn't look like soldiers at all. At first, I was trying to talk to them nicely. But after I heard a question whether I want to see my own blood, I told, OK guys, I call police, and they should decide who of us should be arrested. I started to dial any number, although I didn't know what number I need. When I looked around the guys were already quickly walking away from me. As far as I understand I had Luck that the beach was full of people. And the guys wanted to take me away from the beach. Now about the police. I didn't want to leave it like this. And went to the next police station. So I need to give respect to local police. 20 min later I was there with 4 guys with AK-47. They refused to go exactly to that place. Because it was the border of the military base. And they were in civil clothes and with assault rifles. But in each case they tried to help me.

Second case here: 639'38.4"S 3913'01.2"E. This time I was not so lucky. I was alone on the beach. I was simply walking there. Ten min before what had happened to me I saw a white family not so far from that place. A man, a wife and two small kids. So I saw two guys are coming straight to me. 10 m to me the guys pulled their t-shirts up and took something like machetes out. It was something self-made. Looked like a short sword. I had critical situations also before. You never think in such situations with your mind. It is only instincts. I had a pepper spray and started to spray on the first guy in 2 m distance. The wind was strong. So I could really hit him only when he was immediately on me. He managed to grab my t-shirt. But he was already almost blind. He tried to hit me with the knife. But I was moving all the time. And he hit only the air. Finally, I turned my back to him and tried to run away. But he grabbed my backpack. Do you remember the scene from "Avatar" movie, where the guy springs out of his backpack? I did the same. And started to run as fast as I can. As I was running, I shortly turned my heard to see what is happening behind. The second guy was running after me. It was a very nice view: a guy with a sword running behind me. But I was without anything and without shoes. And the guy was in his shoes and with a sword. Some 200 m later he dropped off. And run back to his partner. The first guy couldn't walk himself. Was trying to clean his eyes. The second guy helped him to run to the Bush. They didn't forget to grab my backpack. The backpack itself was the most expensive thing they got. There were only my old shoes inside and sanitizer. So I kept running till I reached this place: 639'14.5"S 3912'43.8"E. There was some security personal there. I run to him and explained the situation. He went immediately to telephone to call, as far as I understand local security boss. As I was waiting on that guy as I saw one of the thugs walking on the beach in the same direction where I run before. I don't know why. I didn't remember the faces of the thugs. But it was the same clothes, same age, same height. And as he saw me and saw that I am calling the security guy, he dropped something in the water. And as I was fighting with them there and as I was running back, the beach was empty. In each case it was one of the thugs. I called the security guy and we run together to the thug. I was pretty pissed and was keeping pepper spray at thug's face all the time. We took him to some building and called police. Local security chef also came. He told me it is a usual story. On weekend the thugs even make big operations. A dozen of them surrounds big groups of people. So that nobody can escape. And take everything they want. He was even pissed a little bit, that the first one who dared to resist and survived after it was a muzungu. The police was not so nice this time. The first guys who came, I had to pay the taxi for them and 20000 shilling each (all my valuables were in my pockets). After I came back to Europe they called me one time to tell about the case. But after it they stopped to answer my calls.

You were lucky. That could have ended very bad for you. Just let go of that junk and run. Why resist for a worthless back pack. If the second guy hits you with a panga you're facing critical injury or death. Never walk on a deserted beach. Even in daytime. I always stay in guarded beach clubs or hotels let you in for a fee to use their swimming pool. In Mbezi beach that is.

Online: Mostly Tinder, do not waster your time with other apps that IMHO. Plenty of choices there, so pick what you want and usually you have most of them who are constantly searching, so you will get them matched quickly.

My advice is be straight and tell what you want from the very beginning. Most girsls actually are OK to get message saying that you need only a short time together. Do not suggest to meet for lunch, etc, go straight and meet at your hotel room, later you decide if you want a lunch IMHO. If conversation goes on, agree on the pricing. Obviously as a foreigner you will get quoted unreasonably high, so keep negotiating.

I personally brought down hot chick who expected 200 $ to literally 30 $ for short meeting. Most of them end up to accept your offer. Below I will drop few Swahili words that can help everywhere.

Good thing with Tinder is that it will work in any city or region in Tanzania and it's very easy, but might take time sometimes to find a good deal.

Clubs / Bars:

Obvious choices are mentioned here like Q Bar, Samaki Samaki, Elements, etc. If you are new to the scene, I guess those are easiest options. Going to places in Sinza will require some knowledge of location and preferably basic Swahili.

In these high end places also negotiate hard, but I think you will get chicks above 60 K Tsh (30 $) there depending on how they look. Those are expensive expat places, and even for them to get there, they need to spend more money, but these are same chicks sometimes as in Sinza. Sinza itself, you can grab a girl for as low as 20 K Tsh (10 usd) but the quality ranges big times there and I think decent ones will be not less than 40 K (20 $). But again, going Sinza has lots of complications for normal people, even me who know Dar very well and speak some Swahili do not tend to go there due to complexities of logistics, etc.

Walking chicks:

For me one of easy, quick and cheap options. Just after 8 pm you can browse areas next to Atlantis hotel (Ghuba road) or around Atlantis / Q Bar, the junction of Msasani road and Haile Selassie roads, you will find some options of girls waiting for customers. Most though do not speak English, so just put the price you offer on the phone screen and they say yes or no Most of them can blow you in the car itself. The price here range from 40 K to 80 K for a short term, depending on the girl. Sometimes I managed to get very nice options here.

Massage parlors:

Another very easy and 24/7 option and there are plenty of those around the town. Not all of them are of same quality though. If you folks here are interested, I will try to find some time to describe few of them that I used. I had to pay $100 extortion, as it was my beginning of 15 days vacation and I didn't want to ruin it.

In my experience, stay at good hotel where you trust hotel staff to protect you. Stay away from Q bar.

Thanks for the update. I've got the same problem in Qbar but with a different technique. The girl after a first round started a fight to get immediately paid. I've then said that I'll pay at the end when all is finished. She escalated and broke a bottle to threat me. We were both naked and I hesitated to fight back since it could have a very bad ending and eventually a police station ending. So I've paid 150000 TZS to stop it. The staff have been helpful anyway and they have put her on blacklist. No goons this day. I think the problem is to fuck in the same room that the one you live in. The girls see that. You have all your valuables and a crazy one, especially a on drug one, won't hesitate to be violent to get more money. Better take an extra guestroom cost.

Stone town:

I called Boda Boda to take me to a bar to meet a girl (picked her from Tinder). My mistake I told that guy who am I meeting and for what. He took me in narrow streets of Stonetown and stopped the bike at one shop. This guy asked me to pay for the bill which was about 60,000 Tzs, and asked 30,000 tzs for his help I only gave him 10,000 but by now I was already 90,000 down.

We called a cab and me and that chick got into the cab. On the way she started acting weird and told me you; re drunk and she will only come to hotel if I pay her full amount (100,000 Tzs). Well by now I was already starting to get a sense of scam and didn't let my dick take over my mind. I stopped the cab and told her to get the fuck out (I knew I was 90,000 but could potentially end up loosing a lot more and had I been stupid and gone to their suggested room god knows how much I would have lost, I had 2 iPhones and $500 USD cash with credit cards with me).

Overall I got a strong feeling I could have been in serious trouble and the only reason she started asking money up front was to run away and I didn't comply with their plan to go to their choice of hotel where they could rob me even more.

Paje:

This was a potential threat. A security guard at the next hotel told me to get a hot girl. He took me with him in narrow streets of Paje, stopping at various places and all, but I was getting further away from my hotel and he had already 2 of his friends joined us and started getting a feeling that stage is setting up a potential robbery and while we were still in a market place, I said I am not feeling well and jump on the passing boda boda.

When I was in Sinza there were plenty of SWs in front of now razed Corner Bar. That was a dungeon. Several times there were police razzias and girls fled from the street. If you're looking for some "ambiance" I finally found those brothels in Mwananyamala. People have been asking but there never came an answer. I was standing right next to it several times at the "Hospital Bus Stop" next to Mwananyamala Hospital. You can see the zone in this YouTube video: "WRONG ROUTE!! THE DARK SIDE OF DAR ES SALAAM. ".

If you walk a little further past the Hospital you'll see a small square with some bars, all very dark. In the corner there's some fruit machines. That's where you walk in. It's the largest red light zone I have see so far. Two horizontal lanes with 4 lanes in between. I think as much as 100 rooms with red lights. I've been there at 4 pm, 9 pm and 11 pm. At least 50 girls there at 11 pm. You won't see it from the street. 6/10 is the best you'll find. Depending what you want it's value for your money or not. Service starts at 10 k but the girl I took refused to go to my hotel so I had to bang her on the spot. Bed was ok but washing in a bucket. Strictly Swahili here, I'd spend my 30 k elsewhere.

Be Max Lounge: Nothing inside but next door is Ray's Lodge and there's 2 hookers standing there.

Kitambaa Cheupe: Same place as is referred to as Meeda (it's actually in front of Meeda Investments hence the mix up) Didn't see hookers inside but there's some to the left and right of the bar.

Oyster Bay:

Q Bar: Finally saw some hookers inside on Sunday night, nothing amazing.

Wavuvi Kempu: On Coco Beach. Expected a lot, my heart started beating faster when I was welcomed by a girl in a dress but none of them were hookers, just lousy 4 k for a coke.

Kinondoni:

V Ways bar: Nice bar with no hookers.

Meridian Hotel Club Maasai: Closed or empty during the week, hardly any people on Sunday. Friday and Saturday probably packed. Maybe hookers on those days, not sure. Down to the main road there's some street hookers.

Manzese:

Tip Top Bar: there's street hookers in the alleys behind Tip Top, where you see "Lunch Time Hotel". Not what I expected from a hood like Manzese but didn't find more, well Lambo also weekends only.

Mikoroshoni:

Triple 7: deserted on Thursday, +255 Lounge was full that night. Don't expect hookers.

Call in reception or security immediately to have a verbally credible witness. The rest is up to negotiation skills. But believe me. It's much cheaper to pay the hooker before police gets involved. There is also a risk that your car may be interfered with despite the presence of watchmen. The rooms will never improve. The quality and quantity of the girls appears to have been on a downward spiral for years. For those who can budget for a hotel on the peninsula, better to just book a double room somewhere and then go hunting locally. Alternatively, consider getting a half decent spot in Sinza and picking something up there (if you are confident about mixing with the locals) or picking something in the peninsula and heading back to Sinza. There may be a steep price differential between the two localities and if you are not familiar with the 'Haven on Peace' then better stick to Samaki Samaki. On my recent trip to Dar es Salaam, I stayed at Q-bar (I was being lazy to find for girls and from what I heard, Q bar always have girls).

Nungwi:

- lots of large hotels & resorts.

- beach is excellent and calm (better for swimming than Paje).

- Nungwi attracts older tourists and families, while Paje was originally built for backpackers and hippies (of course both have bit of everything, but you'll get the point once you see them).

Paje:

- lots of quality guesthouses run by Italians (imo better bang for the buck than Nungwi resorts).

- beach is excellent, long, and wide, but there are usually more waves than in Nungwi (great for watersports, and also good for swimming depending on tide).

- town and beach are more laid-back than Nungwi (hammocks, hippies, bonfires, etc.).

- restaurants are better in Paje (my opinion, of course).

- every night you'll find a crowded beach bar for nightlife, lots of available girls too.

- I found Paje cheaper than Nungwi for general costs (accommodation too if you walk and ask around).

Both towns are tourist traps in African standards, but Zanzibar is not Canary Islands if you worried about that. You could walk 300 meters into the local village and it's all shacks and dirt. I would spend 3-5 nights at both towns. Longer than that it can get boring.

When it comes to hobby? Both Nungwi and Paje are fine. The selection is not like in Mombasa, but you'll get laid every single night without problems.
