The safer option is...Stay in North Beach, once you venture south of West street you are placing yourself at risk. There are ample bars and clubs North beach end, the three hotels you mention are in this North Beach area. Bars and clubs are pretty close-by and walkable.

no to the general information:

1. all the northern and northwestern districts from rosebank up and further up to fourways and lonehill are fine.

2. a lot of big malls there, good and cheap restaurants, but you normally need to have a rental car.

3. minibusses are a challenge for foreigners. but i also met 2 girls who were nearly raped in a minibus in the late evening hours around 10pm.

4. so if, only use official small taxis with taxameters, but they are expensive.

5. you can find girls in rosebank mall in the clubs and discos in the evening.

Juat a quick report of my Durban trip. Stayed at the Southern Sun North Beach hotel. The bar has a a few working girls. They tend to come around 8ish and leave by 10:30. Hello everybody. Checked out Cape Town scene. Best thing is to get the Cape Argus newspaper and check the classifieds. Most of the ads are private which requires a lot of phonecalls and sometimes rather difficult to find places. The choice is as well difficult as most ads some sound similar. Therefore decided to check club scene and ended up with Cupid at Main Street in Sea Point (rather at the end of the road looking from Cape Town).Cupid had the best value for money ratio charging ZAR 350 for half an hour and no cover charge. Other clubs are charging ZAR 800 plus cover charge ZAR 70-100).

Visited the place twice. The place is rather small and has about 8 to 10 ladies. Most are black, some mixed and one Asian. I stayed at Michalengelo hotel in sandton area. Otel prices are quite expensive SA if you compare prices with food, beverages and all other stuff.

1- After 11 PM the bar of Michalengelo hotel becomes a open market, many black ladies are there.

The hotel is actually called the Royal Park Hotel. Not that it's particularly regal!

It used to be a hive of eager, attractive pussy from neighbouring countries but the standard has definitely dropped in recent months. Marco Polo is a semi respectable resort / conference centre during the day and a place for P4P black girls from late afternoon onwards. as a person who was born and raised in south africa, i thought i would give all those interested in travelling there a few warnings. this is not a safe place to live let alone go on holiday. people are leaving the country in droves because of the crime rate.

so here are a few tips to make sure you stay safe.

* all this talk about the summit club? you guys need rocks in your fucking heads to be going there. seriously. its in one of the worst parts of jhb right in the middle of a suburb that even the police dont like to patrol. avoid it please. its not worth the risk. you are playing with fire.

* johannesburg and durban city centres need to be avoided at night. completely. especially on foot. even riving through them is dangerous. avoid clubs and brothels in these areas!

There's definitely two schools of thought going on here. But let's put it into perspective. It is definitely not safe to walk in Hillbrow, day or night, and particularly at night. The Summit Club in Hillbrow is worth a visit. It used to be the only place of it's kind. It's safe to go there if you go by car and park in the car park run by the club directly over the road. A guard will usually escort you the few metres from the car park to the club and, to the best of my knowledge, no one has ever been mugged crossing the road from the car park to the club. If the car park is full and you have to park even one block away, don't go! IMHO it's not safe to walk even that one block.

However, there's now a few clubs around that offer equivalent entertainment. For example, there's a place called Club Malasia in Randburg (Bram Fisher Drive near the Randburg CBD) which is basically a strip club with girls available for take out. Another similar place in Randburg, but more upmarket, is the Lollipop Lounge. This place is a strip club where the girls dance for everyone and then wander around doing private lap dances. Let's not kid ourselves. Hillbrow's not safe but you can go there if you are sensible and don't take unnecessary risks. Just heed the advice on this board.

I live in Johannesburg and I punt all over. Yes, it is dangerous in Hillbrow but the clubs are secure. I visit the Summit Club in Hillbrow once a week, the club is well kept and the ladies are friendly. The previous posting, the gentleman must have visited the Royal. I just returned after a 4 day trip to Cape Town and before I give my opinion on the mongering scene . I want to thank all my monger brothers for their advise thru the posts and PM’s. If traveling from Dubai the flight is 10 hours direct. I arrived a 4 in the evening and the immigration and baggage in very quick and I was in the hotel by 5.00 in the evening. Now for the exchange of currency I suggest encash a bit at the airport or the the best rate, I believe at the waterfront the rates are better. Do not exchange at the hotel. Most of the exchanges close around 6 and I suggest that you compare the rates in a couple of exchanges as all of them have different rates plus different commission. For hotels select somewhere near Long street and that is where all the action is. For mongers with families stay near the beach or waterfront. All the taxis are metered , but try and negotiate for 25 to 30 rand because the meter runs very fast and will cross 100 rand within no time.
Now for the mongering scene, the bar you can pick up babes at late night is at Mama Africa or Kenedy bar. The quality is not that good. There are some street walker but again poor quality. For pick up joints the most talked about is the Embassy. It is the most expensive joint and charge 800 rand and to your hotel its 900 rand. To enter you will have to pay 50 Rand and if you come with a taxi driver or pimp the 50 Rand goes to them. There was a beggar asking for 1 Rand to eat food, I took him along with me to the Embassy and the 50 Rand was given to him . He left the place blessing me. The hyped up girls are mostly Russian. People there usually fancy it maybe because Russians to them are a novelty and don’t mind paying that high to bang them. As for me, I have had enough Russians in Dubai and those there did not appeal to me. Cupid is another joint near the sea point but it is closed now and the girls work from some house. Majestic in long street has some average girls that will come and introduce themselves. The rates are 220 for 20 minutes 330 for 30 minutes and 440 for an hour.
Bedazzled too has average looking girls and the rates are 600 Rand for an hour. Naughty forty has 50 cover charge and 600 for the girl. To take the girl out it should be for a minimum 2 hours. Now for the last and the best option for me was Paradise pent house . The charge 520 for an hour , but you have to pay 100 advance before you see the girl and addl 50 to take her to the hotel. All the days I picked up babes from there to my hotel the reason being there are a lot of white south African babes in that place. The city lodge and courtyard brands are fine. Road lodge is Motel style, too cheap.
They both offer WIFI internet, bandwidth limited. Roaming in other locations (shopping centers) is often available (50% chance). Example, 1 GB for 425 Rand (1 year valid) 1 GB serves me for ~2 weeks.

And BTW: please clean up your PMs your are over quota.

Most of your happening spots will be a couple of minutes away by car from the ICC. Been too long since i last partied in Durban, much has changed so i can`t give you the updated club scene, however, the ICC is well located. Ask around, i`m sure the locals will point you in the right dirction. I would advise against clubbing with company, sure to ruine your evenings objective.

I presume you are staying close to the ICC. A few minutes walk away, daytime only, i must stress...head down to the beachfront, many of the bars will be frequented by working ladies, you can have yourself an afternoon session...Joe Cools, North Beach, comes to mind.

Before I give my report, I would like to offer my appreciation to the many members who posted useful info on the mongering scene in ZA as well as many useful tips via PM. My trip report is long overdue. Although my normal hunting ground is Asia, the company was nice enough to send me on my first business trip to South Africa. You don't want to be roaming the streets looking for hookers in this environment. A couple of guys from my company were mugged not more than 50 meters from their hotel in broad daylight. Luckily Internet technology has come to fill the gap with websites advertising call girls. While I was on my trip I personally tried girls from the following sites, which all had a number of girls from the city I was visiting:

And many of the girls are posed to make them look slimmer than they actually are. Many of the providers are mommies - about half of my dates were MILFs. Age information is definitely not accurate - expect the girls to be 3-4 years older than advertised. All sites were searchable by city/service area, but most of the sites did not provide much detail about what services the girls would provide. From my experience and observation, the menu is slanted heavily towards straight-up suck and fuck services. From my casual observation of the prices and supply, white girls and Indians/Asians can cost considerably more, so be prepared to call around if you are on a budget for your white meat or exotics. I see a lot of posts on monger boards that the white girls and indians generally place themselves in the premium/exotic niche of the market and try to charge accordingly. However, most reviews say that the whites/indians generally do not deliver premium service. Your mileage may vary.

I don’t see a lot about Durban on the forum, and have never seen much at all about the massage parlors in town. The City Lodge V & A is a nice little 3 stars hotel. Rooms are very nice, on par with even 4 and 5 star hotel rooms. The hotel is girl-friendly although if the girl spends the night you might be charged for the extra person.

Non mongering answer:

You don't need a 5 star Hotel in Johannesburg. I always stay in "City Lodge" branded Hotels. http://www.citylodge.co.za/
The city lodge and courtyard brands are fine. Road lodge is Motel style, too cheap.
They both offer WIFI internet, bandwidth limited. Roaming in other locations (shopping centers) is often available (50% chance). Example, 1 GB for 425 Rand (1 year valid) 1 GB serves me for ~2 weeks.

And yes, I actually stayed at the City Lodge last trip. The light in the rooms is great for pics when I have ladies over. Haaa
In the City Lodge I discovered that each Vodacom SIM card comes with 1 hour of free internet. The SIM cards cost about 1-2 rand, depending where you buy them. So I bought a stack back then. Logging on and off, it got me through a couple of days of low-cost internet.
I use 3G on Vodacom now, I think it was 300-400 rand for 1GB, serves about 1 week, right.

For girls I mostly frequent Summit and Royal Park hotel. Both in the Berea/Hillbrow area. Royal Park redesigned recently and last night it was packing with action around 9PM. 7-10PM seem to be the best time to go for that place.
Summit is boring most of the time and it's so big it looks too empty. I like the down and dirty attitude from Royal Park better. Although Summit might have some more cute girls.

I must really advise NEVER to go to Hilbrow or Berea! Exactly these areas are even mentioned by the USA and other Governments to NOT visit during the worldcup.

Hijacking and armed robberies as well as shootings are happening in these two suburbs every week, if not every day!

I had to go there a couple of times during the last weeks and I always was very happy to be back in safer places! The problem is, that it is packed with people, after dark it is going hectic, in some areas people are running around on the streets, taxis are everywhere and sometimes blocking the streets. With a considerable %-tage of armed criminals around, you just have to be lucky!

Because. You might get stuck in traffic and IF somebody wants to do something, you have know chance to excape!

I am in Johannesburg now since almost 2 years and I have learned to go to nearly every place, having driven about 20 000 km in the city! I go to downtown, to the suburbs in the south, to some areas in Yoville, but deeper Yoville, Berea and Hillbrow is NOT OK for the mongerer! There are plenty other places where you can find gorgeous girls. I do not know about professionals as I do not visit these places with no passion and exaggerated prices.

Please don't try your luck, stay safe!

I agree for the most part. These areas look quite rough. But that's why I dress down, way down. It even looks as if the hoodlums are dressed more fashionable than I am. Although I noticed people in the streets eyeing my sneakers.

Anyway, I think if you arrive to the club in taxi and leave in taxi you should be reasonably safe.

I didn't see the areas going hectic after dark. In fact, as soon as the sun set, the streets look deserted. Kinda creepy if you know how busy it is during the day.

Luis Manuel, I don't know about Eastgate. But from my experience so far any hotel in JNB is girl friendly.

I was in that area two years ago. I found a hotel on Hotels.com. All hotels are "girl friendly..." since SA is not exactly monger heavy. I easily picked up normal women at Eastgate just wandering around the mall and didn't have to monger at all. In fact, I picked up a waitress at the hotel I was staying at when I was exploring the other side of town too. FYI: It seems the whole country shuts down 2 weeks before and after Christmas - New Years. Very bad time to hang out in Jozi.

I went to all the clubs in Hillbrow. I have an addiction to exploring and danger. If you don't share that thrill, don't go there. I believe its one of the few places I've ever been that's more dangerous in the day than at night.

I've lived here most of my life and I would not recomend mongering in JHB city or Hilbrow for foreiners. You won't be allert for the tell tale sings, even we arnt all the time. But if you can rather monger elsewhere or take a hardened mongerer with.

For some reason, Jackson held back my question a couple of days.

However, I am in Joburg now and -as I didn't receive any guidance upfront- checked out 'Leela Dee massage' in Paulshof, close to Sandton.

Was a splendid experience of a truly professional tahi massage, some body-to-body elements and a really good hand relief.

Still totally relaxed now :)

Just got back from a quick business trip to South Africa. I had some meeting scheduled in Pretoria but managed to arrive a day early and spend a night in Johannesburg at the Sandton City Holiday Inn which has always been one of my favorites due to its proximity to Sandton Square.

Arrived at 6 am so decided to have breakfast before going to the hotel. Also got a SIM card at the airport which was activated immediately as opposed to 24 hrs later anywhere else.

After a nice dinner in Mandela Square, I was undecided between see one of the escorts advertised in the internet or venture to the infamous Summit Club, which I used to frequent many years ago. It had been 7 years since my last trip to South Africa, so I was apprehensive about safety, but still chose the Summit Club. I guess I just like conducting my private business away from where I do my professional business.

I went to a taxi waiting in front of the hotel and asked the fare to Hillbrow before getting in. I was told it was 180R and because it was a slow night, he'd take me there for 150R. Asking for the fare before getting into the cab also gives you the added security that the driver actually knows how to get there. Over the years I've had some rather interesting experiences with drivers who don't seem to know the city at all.

Granted that Hillbrow is a rather nasty part of Johannesburg, but the roads were surprisingly empty (it was Wednesday) and getting there was no issue at all. After the passing security (you get frisked) I went up a flight of stair to pay the entrance fee (70R) only to be told that there was some issue with the liquor license and that they weren't serving alcohol. As my taxi had already departed i decided to go in anyway.

The Summit is very large inside so it appeared decidedly empty even for the 30 odd girls (almost all black, a few colored and one oriental) ranging from rather plain to very pretty, sitting around looking rather dejected. About a dozen patrons seems to be spread out amongst the various rooms. I headed for the bar, ordered tonic water and waited for the strip show to start.

In little time a girl came up to me to ask for a drink. She seemed pleasant enough so I bought her a coke which also gave me the opportunity to find out what was happening, get a sense of the rates and look around some more. When she asked me if I wanted a massage I declined and she moved on.

By then I had already spotted a cute colored girl with long hair who turned out to be from Zambia. I smiled at her and she came over. I bought her and her friend a soft drink (2 x 8R), chatted her up a little to make sure she was pleasant and confirm her rate (300R), and eventually let her take me up to her room.

She turned out to be very friendly. She gave good BBBJ and then put a condom on me. She seemed to really get off riding me which was a great turn-on and in no time I had done the deed. We could have gone on but I was pretty tired from the trip and accepted a back massage instead.

While she straddled my back and kneaded my muscles, we discussed life, the future of South Africa etc and eventually I got dressed, paid her and she walked me downstairs to door to make sure she knew the taxi driver. A nice gesture albeit not necessary as the taxis in front of the club are registered by the club.

For the ride back to the hotel I sat in front as I usually do from Hillbrow given that these taxi are quite run-down (unlike the new cars in Sandton) and the front seats are usually much better. Also this way you can talk to the driver or grab the steering wheel should he fall asleep (actually happened to me years ago).

All in all it was a nice experience for about 800R. I suppose one doesn't gain anything by not going for a girl in the Sandton area (reportedly 500R to 600R) but I personally like the sleaziness of the Summit Club and being able to talk to them before having to make a choice.

In conclusion if you like black girls, the Summit Club continues to be a safe option providing you are smart about it (hotel taxi in and club taxi out). A lot of the girls seem to be from neighboring African countries and some seemed to be educated and to have had good jobs. They also seemed to respond very well to being treated with consideration.

Hopefully the liquor license issue will be resolved quickly.
