At the time of writing there was not actual Internet to be found in Rangoon and I suspect anywhere in the area under central government control (the Shan Bang special area in Mengla on the Chinese border has Internet service). E-mail can be sent and received at hotels via the hotel's own account but it costs US$ 1 to send a page. So don't think you will just look at the detals for names and locations after you get there, write them down before you go.

The Thai-Brma border is now fully open at Mae Sai - Tachileik.

For visa regulations now in force, see my post under the Thailand section today.

Once accross the border, Tachilek is more or less the same as Mae Sai, pretty much of a dump!

Only difference is, very few restaurants and bars, apart from the street vendor variety.

Singha beer is half price from Thailand, as are cigarettes. Shopping on the many market stalls around the border is about 20% cheaper than Thailand, but most of the goods are very cheap China-manuafactured items, with far less choice than on the Thai side.

Chinese medicines and Teas are good value, if that's what turns you on!

As for P4P ... the many cigarette vendors will offer you "lady ... very small". Going rate is Bht 500 S/T. No real L/T rates available, as most people haveto return to Thailand before the border closes at 18:00pm.

Chose your pimp carefully, and then he will take you by moto to a series of "lady houses" about 1Km from the border.

Selection of 5 - 8 girls in each, very pleasant, all aged around 18-20. They will take you to a room, very basic, with basic shower facilities, but quite safe.

In none of these houses do the girls seem anything other than very happy, and certainly they are not the terrible places of captivity reported by the various NGOs!

Enjoy .... but cover up!

If you do get a hotel room and visa to stay overnight, the main street for the lady houses is:
Head accross the bridge at the border.
Go to the roundabout with the sign "Golden Triangle City" on it
Take the right turn from the roundabout, and go 1.5Kms, until the Mekong River Resort Hotel. First Soi on the left after this is signposted "Morning Star Guest House". In this Soi are three or four lady houses, S/T rooms, and overnight rooms available from the guest house.

Other hotels to stay in, which can be booked at Chiang Rai Airport upon arrival, as they all have offices there, are:-
Regina Entertainment Hotel & Golf Club
Golden Triangle Paradise Resort
Allure Resort

All these places can arrange entry permits for you, and transfer you for about Bht 500 one way.

More lady houses in tachilek, if you continue on main road instead of turning left on road to morning star, turn right on next street, go down to second block there are about 3 or 4 more houses there, 300 and 500 bt st. if you go back to main road continue toward airport, there are some thatched roof style brothels in a run down looking area , turn left don't remember exactly how far.

I just arrived in Mongla. Teng Tong is more of a dump then Tachilek plus has no girls available, not even for massage. Mongla has girls ( maybe over 100) at new market plus the only place in Burma with internet. I'll send more info soon.

Mongla is a new town on the chinese border some 80 km. from Keng Tong. I staid at the Mongla hotel. $10.00 us a night. Tv is all chinese plus one porn channel. Pubic hair is not allowed to be shown. The New Market is a special economic zone where prostitution, gambling, and internet are legal. to get there from mongla hotel ,walk out of hotel continue straight under the clock tower go over bridge then go down stairs continue and look for large open tall roof with stall after strall of merchandise and restaurants. the girls are in brothels just on one corner. near the pool tables. maybe 100 or so girls. All girls are chinese, 20 to 25 years old some new. very good looking , the action starts in afternoon . After dark when cars drive by slowly the girls come out and stand in a line just like Svay Pak used to be. But they are 300 yuan for st, and 600 long time. I only tried two both were very passionate . You give the girl money, not the "Boss". as they call them. So I think the girls keep most of the money. Also, there are about 10 girls hanging around the clock tower at night , to go sleep 500 yuan, the police drive by and the girls are not afaid of them. The internet is hard to use because they use chinese. maybe 20 internet stalls with 10 to 20 computers each place. The web address cache is full of chinese porn sights. I would say that mongla is one of the best places I have been, but I was the only caucasean there. and I spent a lot more the I'm used to spending in cambodia. If any one has question ask and

Good info....this section has been dry for awhile. Post all the details and info. you can about this place. What about visa requirements?..Have fun!

Visa reguirements: You can get visa at Burma embassy or you can get a permit good only for Keng Tong and Mongla at Tachilek, bordering Thailand at Mae Sai. You have to leave passport at Tachilek immigration. or if you have visa you have to leave passport in Keng Tong immigration, when you go to Mongla. Where ever you go, the driver has to go to immigration with you first, then there are many check points along the way, there were 8 from Tachilek to Kengtong and about 5 from Keng Tong to Mongla.

EDITOR's NOTE: Posting of this report was delayed pending revisions to capitalize proper names. To avoid future delays, please capitalize the first letters of proper names, including names of people, places, countries, cities, streets, nationalities, etc. in future reports. Thanks!

How is it to get all the way from Tachileck to Mongla recently ? When I went, two or three years ago, it was hell ! Plane from Tachileck to Kientong, night in Kientong, endless wait and negociations to share a taxi to Mongla, same on the way back except that my flight got cancelled. Has is improved since ? Is the road between Kientung and Mongla still this dusty track ?
I recently went all the way to cht border on the Chinese side, and can confirm that Foreigners are still not allowed to access to Mongla from Daluo, even for a few hours, even by depositing their passport or other mean. Little action in Daluo, by the way.

Charles: Day pass costs $5 from Mae sai but you must stay within 5 km and go back in the evening. You also have the 500 baht Thai tax. The crossing closes at 6 pm weeknights and 9 om holidays and weekends. Accomodation is better on the Thai side.

Erik: To go to Mongla from Kengtung, yo uhave to first register with the Kengtung Immigration Office. Then you have to pay the Wa guys. Lot of hassle for a bit of draw?

Erik
07-28-04, 16:39
I know ! I had to register and pay wherever I went. When you arrive in town, when you leave... In all my trips accross Asia, I have never seen such a corrupt police. That is why I don't plan to travel back to Mongla, unless somebody tells me the conditions of transportation and police hassle have improved. It is a shame, because Mongla is virtually the Pattaya or the K11 of Birma.

Thanks for the information.

I entered Burma from China with the help of a local Chinese and entered Burma from Thailand by walking across the bridge, both times without visa. Of course, I can't stay there too much time and it was risky.

If it is US$5 + 500 B to enter Burma from Thailand legally, I wonder if there are enough actions to justify this. I remember there were a lot of lady houses in the Thailand side and I saw but not tried some nice women from Burma(?). Possible to try Burmese women in Mae sai?

I will be in Bagan in early July for some sightseeing. Has anybody found any mongering action around there? How about guest friendliness of hotels?

Mahku
07-03-05, 05:27
Decided to go to Bagan because I admire the architecture of the temples and pagodas. I've also become an admirer of the architecture of Burmese women so I hoped to find some action there. Results were mixed.

Bagan turned out to be mostly sightseeing. I did luck into a pair of girls who offered to go back to my room for massage. There were no taxis around so I had to peddle 3 miles with one of the girls on the back of the back.

Now my hotel, Thiripitsaya Sakura (US45 a night), turned out to not be guest friendly. This first night we did slip past the guards and we had done the deed before they were any wiser. The next night I tried to bring the girls in again and they were stopped at the gate. Too bad, no more business for this hotel from me.

The girls did a nice full body massage and then I did the younger one (25, the other was 29). She wasn't very experienced, just a sweet, shy country girl. I might have done the other one but she had some serious dental issues from chewing that betel nut. Cost me US15 for the whole time.

That was all I had in Bagan. I asked around and was told you can find some action at massage places that you see here and there in New Bagan and Nyaung-U. You also may get lucky with other tourists. The area is much more of a small town atmosphere than I realized. It's much smaller than Seam Reap in Cambodia for example. So you get all the small town attitudes toward the 'profession.'

So the scene in Bagan is pretty spotty. Yangon is a different story. More on that and the general Myanmar report coming in a few days when I get back to Singapore.

I spent two beautiful days in Mae Sai - arrived July 31 and departed August 2.

I stayed at the Mae Sai Guest House, not to be confused with the Mae Sai Plaza Guest House (which might be fine but I did not stay there.) I had a cool little bungalow right on the river for 400 baht per night. Had good food right there at the guest house. No a/c but I was very comfortable.

My mongering during these two days was limited to one encounter on the Burma side. On Aug. 1 I walked across the bridge (passing through customs, leaving my passport with them) and took a stroll. I did some shopping at the bazzar and then approached the bridge. A tuk-tuk driver approached me and said he could take to to "boom boom" a girl for 400-500 baht. He wanted 80 baht for the ride. He took me to a house where I had my choice of 6 girls. Three were cute. One of them made a lot of eye contact with me as I surveyed them. I chose her. They asked for 600 baht and settled for 500.

If she can be believed, she was 18 and from Mandalay. She had a cute face, nice body and the tits were a bonus. I had not realized what nice titties she had until she undressed. Well, that is where most of the good stuff ended. Not one but two condoms she used before she would suck me. The blowjob was quite good in terms of technique and she did not rush. But TWO condoms? Come on!

She got on top for some uninspired fucking. Don't get me wrong. Fucking an 18 year old cutie with a nice little body and wonderful tits is great anytime - but she was just doing her job. Pleasant enough - but uninspired. Then I flipped her over and fucked her. She waited patiently for me to finish. I like to finish via an oily handjob. So, I pulled out. I had to convince her I was not finished. I flipped over onto my back and positioned her between my legs facing me. She seemed confused.

What transpired next was the WORST handjob I ever had. I poured the oil in her hands and showed her what to do. As soon as the slightest bit of pre-cum appeared she thought I was finished. Then she kept grabbing toilet paper and cleaning her hands and my dick and I hadn't even cum yet. Then she wrapped the toilet paper around my dick and stroked. Talk about a cum-dodger.

FINALLY, after numerous false stops and starts I managed to shoot. Like I said, she was a cutie and I did manage to cum but DAMN what a lousy handjob. I took a picture although she insisted on covering her face. Will post the photo in a day or two.

So much for Burma (but I did get a pack of Sadam Hussein playing cards for 50 baht - woo hoo.)

I'm in Tachileck again, I am finding more lady homes. Prices slowly going down. Now 300 bht st for a lot of nice girls, have decent attitude. Some newer girls are 1000 bht, they tend to have not good attitudes, just lie down and hold a condom in the air with no smile. The minuses are no internet and not much of food choices. Pluses include girls available in daytime. cheap transportation. Kengtong not worth going to for girls.

"Burma’s sex worker population on the rise - Shah Paung

The recent economic crisis in Burma—including a drastic devaluation of the kyat—has led more Burmese women to turn to the sex industry to support themselves and their families, according to an aid worker in Rangoon.

The volunteer, who requested anonymity, said that the country’s increasing economic woes have made it more difficult for families to survive. In growing numbers, women are finding that they can augment their income by working as prostitutes.

Prices on a variety of commodities in Rangoon have increased dramatically in recent months. In October, the ruling junta increased gas prices in Burma from 180 kyat (approximately 14 US cents) to 1,500 kyat (approximately US $1.21), following previous rises in the cost of utilities and the price of newspapers. The increase in gas prices has also affected transportation costs for many of the country’s most impoverished residents.

According to the aid worker, prostitution is attracting more women because it is an easy way for them to earn extra money. Many women—often housewives and young girls sent out by their parents—walk the streets pretending to sell mosquito netting, when in fact they are selling sex.

“More students have [become] sex workers [to pay] for their school fees,” said one university student in Rangoon.

Aung Lay, a Rangoon resident and frequent patron of the city’s nightclubs and karaoke bars, said that such places are popular among sex workers because they offer an easy environment to solicit clients, and the number of women working as prostitutes in the clubs has increased in recent months.

The situation is the same in other parts of Burma. Ngwe Pyu, a resident of Three Pagodas Pass near the Thai-Burma border, said that the number of female sex workers along the border has also increased recently.

“The sex trade in Yangon [Rangoon] is rapidly growing and is characterized by a high degree of complexity,” according to a recent report by the Centre for International Health at Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Australia.

“The number of female sex workers [in Rangoon] is estimated to be between 5,000 and 10,000, and there are [approximately] 100 brothels operating in various townships around the city,” the report added.

Reliable data about the number of sex workers in Burma is difficult to find.

“UNAIDS has no means to track the number of sex workers in Myanmar [Burma],” said one representative of the organization in Burma, “nor whether the number is currently increasing or decreasing.” Economic factors, however, can affect the growth of a country’s sex industry, as “worsening poverty tends to increase women’s vulnerability and encourages more sex work,” the representative added.

what? 100 brothels only for Rangoon! big field of investigation for the ISG!

This article from Irrawaddy.org is about 2 years old, but still quite relevant. It gives an insight into the fashion shows that you find at various places around Rangoon. A quote from the article which I find interesting is "With high rates of unemployment and a banking crisis plaguing the Burmese economy, Burma’s military rulers have either stopped enforcing laws against black-market trade like prostitution or have turned a blind eye altogether. Several sources in Rangoon say there has been an increase in the number of women who work as prostitutes throughout the country."

Rangoon, here I come! :)

Here's the article from http://www.irrawaddy.org/database/2003/vol11.8/c-burma.html

Prostitution is dressed-up and paraded in the nightclubs of Rangoon.

By Chris O’Connell/Rangoon

An old elevator door creaks open and seven women walk through the rooftop restaurant cum nightclub on a wet Friday night in Rangoon. A few wear long shiny red raincoats and sunglasses, others have fedoras tilted to hide their eyes, and some walk with children by their side.

Despite the urbane camouflage it’s easy to see the women are all tall, thin and gorgeous. They move quickly towards the dressing rooms backstage, past tables of middle-aged men drinking glasses of Myanmar Beer and a woman singing John Denver’s "Take Me Home, Country Roads" over the deafening roar of a synthesizer.

Within minutes the music dies down, stage lights flash on and the seven women appear onstage to the first few strains of a Brittany Spears tune. The men in the crowd clap, cheer and ogle as the ladies strut in tight-fitting slinky black and white bell-bottomed outfits.

Then the lights go out. The show comes to a grinding halt as Brittany’s voice warps from a high-pitch to a slow groan. It’s nothing new; blackouts aren’t rare in Rangoon. Everyone is used to it. The men sip their beer patiently in the dark, the women regroup, the waiters rush for candles, and it seems like the only light in the city is the far-off glow of Shwedagon Pagoda. After a few minutes, the backup generators kick-in and the show rolls on.

This is nightlife Burmese-style, where the electricity is spotty and the beer costs 200 kyat (US 20 cents). Known to many as "fashion shows", this peculiar merging of club act and beauty pageant is a popular nighttime diversion for the wealthy and well-connected.

In notoriously inhibited Burma, a land where kissing is seldom seen on film, these fashion shows are exceptionally risqu้. But they have fast become part of life here in downtown Rangoon. As one advertising executive in the capital put it, the shows have become almost as ubiquitous as Buddhism.

"When we are worried or sad, we go to the pagoda," he explains. "When we are happy, we sing karaoke and we watch fashion shows."

While fashion shows may seem innocent enough, women who work in them occupy a shady area that blurs the boundaries between prostitution and performance. Much like the geishas of Japan, men pay for their company. The women are adept at laughing at the jokes of their patrons, and usually have the choice of taking the relationship further later in the night. But some dancers say they are pressured by their managers to bring in a certain amount of money every night and this, more often than not, means having sex with men for cash.

The scene at the Zero Zone nightclub on the roof of Theingyi Market would have been almost unimaginable just seven years ago. With strict curfews, and a ban on nightclubs and performances, people looking to party or go out on the town in Rangoon had few alternatives beyond roadside teashops and private get-togethers.

In 1996, the curfew was lifted and the ban on nighttime entertainment was rolled back. Fashion shows have since led the way for this nighttime revival. Groups of women move from nightclub to nightclub to parade the catwalk to the Western pop tunes of Christina Aguilera and Pink. Wealthy men with business and military connections jeer the performers on, and aside from those on stage, there are virtually no women to be seen.

The seven dancers in bell-bottoms are first on the bill at Zero Zone. Their routine is half music-video choreography, half basketball drill. Weaving in and out, the ladies parade towards the end of the catwalk, where there’s a practiced pause at the edge. With an all-too-common slouch, the kind that every fashion model from New York to Paris has refined, the women put their hands on their hips and make eye contact with as many men as possible. The models turn their shoulders, snap their heads and strut back to the line-up.

As the men in the crowd warm to the act, they call on waiters to give the women wreaths of fake flowers to hang around their necks. Some of the women are crowned with tiaras or wrapped in pageant banners that read "love you" and "kissing" and "beauty."

Competition among the women is fierce. They scan the room for their suitor and smile with satisfaction when the garlands come. For the price of a chain of plastic flowers—as little as one dollar and as much as ten—men can buy the brief company of any one of the women on stage. After the act, which lasts for about four songs, the ladies span out and sit next to the men who selected them. They chat, laugh and, depending on the woman’s whim, arrange for more expensive liaisons later in the night.

The groups themselves operate like dance companies with their own choreographers, seamstresses and managers. Even though most split the money between their managers and the club, the performers take home sums of money unheard of in one of Asia’s poorest countries. In Rangoon, where the official salary for civil servants peaks at about $30 a month and doctors at public hospitals earn much less, women on the fashion show circuit can earn as much as $500 a month.

"Sarah," a member of a group that regularly performs at several Rangoon nightspots says that she would rather be doing other things with herself, but that the faltering Burmese economy doesn’t leave her much choice. Work at the fashion shows is the least stressful and the most lucrative option, she says.

"I want to be an actress," says a slender dancer after finishing a set in another nearby club. "But there is nowhere to study and there are no jobs, so this is good for now."

A dancer with straight, jet-black hair says this is her first month on the job. She admits that she doesn’t earn as much as some of the girls who’ve been in the group longer. "They have regular customers. My manager always tells me to smile more, to be more aggressive so we can make more money," she says.

The Zero Zone is considered one of the nicer spots in town and the fashion show troupes move on to other dingier clubs during the night. With high rates of unemployment and a banking crisis plaguing the Burmese economy, Burma’s military rulers have either stopped enforcing laws against black-market trade like prostitution or have turned a blind eye altogether. Several sources in Rangoon say there has been an increase in the number of women who work as prostitutes throughout the country.

After dark, the streets around Theingyi Market form the city’s main nightclub district. Across the street sit Emperor and Shanghai, two indoor clubs which teem with women who moonlight as prostitutes to earn extra money.

A woman at Shanghai who is not in a fashion show troupe but works independently says she occasionally goes to nightclubs to try and make extra money for her family. "My husband doesn’t have a job," said the woman who gave her name as Mimi. "So sometimes I come here to earn some money. He might know what I’m doing, but he never asks."

For all their popularity, there are still people who find Rangoon’s fashion shows tacky and disrespectful to women. A prominent video director in the capital says that while many of his friends like to go to the shows, he can’t stand them. "It’s bad for women’s culture. They become objects. They get used to being bought and sold," he says.

A Rangoon writer says the fashion shows are a clear example of the hybrid form of entertainment that emerged in Burma after the ban on nightclubs was lifted.

Because of their lack of contact with the outside world, businessmen in Burma don’t know any better way to have fun, she explains. "They stay in their shop or office all day long and when they are done they want to relax. Fashion shows are the only way they know how."

I've never thought of Lonely Planet as a mongering guide, but their latest edition (9th edition) of Myanmar (Burma) has the address and phone numbers of Emperor Entertainment, Pioneer Club and Zero Zone. It even has their exact locations on the map of Yangon (Rangoon). If you have the guide, this info is on page 119-120.

One place mentioned in the LP mongering guide I've not heard of before is Da Best 69 Entertainment. Anyone know anything about this place? Judging by it's name, it sounds like the type of place I'd like to hang out. :D According to the map, it's opposite Emperor's at the City Centre Plaza on Shwedagon Pagoda Rd. I'll check this place out when I'm there later in December and report back if I get lucky. ;)

Here are some fast facts for those of you wishing to head this way soon.

1. Exchange rate today is $1 USD = 1050 kyat

2. It seems that prices haven't changed much since I was last here 2 months ago.

* 1 can of coke is 600 kyat (about 60 cents)

* 1 cup of coffee is 150 kyat (about 15 cents)

* Internet access, about 1000 kyat per hour ($1 USD)

* Short time ladies, range from 15,000 kyat to 25,000 kyat ($15 to $25 USD) - alot depends on where you get them from, your bargaining skills and how desperate they are for work.

* Long time (ie, overnight) is about 30,000 kyat, although I was able to get two at the same time for 20,000 kyat each.

* Condoms - 800 kyat (80 cents) for a pack of 3. They are of reasonable quality imported from Europe.

* Viagra - 3,000 kyat ($3 USD) a pill. I've not tried it myself so quality is unknown.

3. Apply for your visa before arriving in Burma. Although there are 'visa on arrival' services, I've heard reports that they're not that efficient nor reliable in the processing. Visa costs $20 USD and can be applied for at any Myanmar Embassy. On the form where it says 'purpose for visit' .. write anything BUT mongering. ;) Mongering is very much an underground activity here and although the authorities turn a blind eye to it, it's something that they don't want publicised.

4. Supply your own condoms. The girls won't have any with them. At 800 kyat a packet, it's unaffordable for most of them. Either bring your own before you get here, or you can quite easily purchase them on the streets in Rangoon. Most street side shops selling medicines will have them in stock.

5. Many of the girls here are quite small physically compared with other Asian countries. Take this into consideration when you're with them and lube up if you need to. Almost every girl I asked says they're 18,19 or 20 years old. Some have fake ID's on them so it's hard to know for real. But if you want to ask how "old are you" in Burmese, say "Ar-tek beh lauq leh". They may reply, seh-shiq (18), seh-ko (19), na-seh (20). If you hear anything like na-seh tik(21), na-seh nik (22), na-seh thoun (23) or na-seh anything, then you'll be right as they'll all be over 20. There are many teens that hangout at some of the discos, especially at The Palace, so beware. You don't want to be doing the wrong thing here, believe me!

6. There are many girl friendly hotels in Rangoon, these include Panorama Hotel, Traders Hotel, Olympic Hotel and Thamada Hotel. Although I've only stayed in one of the above, girls that I've had in my company have confirmed that the others are girl friendly.

7. Mongering is very much an underground activity here. Be discreet in anything you do and don't make a scene with the girls in public if you have a dispute over price or services. Do all this in the privacy of the club venue or your hotel room. In my experience, the girls here are genuinely honest, nice and humble, not to mention very beautiful and gorgeous as well. Many are not out to rip anyone off and they do genuinely have high regard for foreigners. So you shouldn't have any trouble with them.

8. At the moment it seems that supply is greater than demand and it shouldn't be that difficult to get what you want. There appears to be very few local customers here. At the prices that some girls are asking, 20,000 to 30,000 kyat, this is equal to one months wage for the average worker here in Burma. So it's no wonder that supply is very much greater than demand. A couple nights work for a working girl here will be double what a university graduate earns in a month.

9. After you have finished with your girl in your hotel room, it's standard practice to provide them with taxi money home. In most cases, this is no more than 2000 or 3000 kyat ($2 to $3 USD). This is to ensure the girls get home safely.

10. Girls joining you at your hotel room do have to register at reception. From what I've seen of this process, the ladies at reception are quite courteous towards the girls so there shouldn't be any problems. The girls submit their IDs as well as fill in a 'special guest' form with their thumb print, name and address. As far as I know, they don't have to reveal which guest they're servicing so if you wish to remain in-cognito, then this is possible by you heading to your room first and having your girl follow a few minutes later. But don't forget to tell your girl which room you're in! If you don't know your numbers in Burmese, write the room number down for the girl on a piece of paper. Room number in Burmese is "ar-karn num-baq".

Ok, that's all I can think of for the time being. If anyone has further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

I backpacked through Burma 10 years ago with my GF, so no chance for mongering - sigh. One day she stayed in the hotel with a bad tummy, and I wandered the streets for an hour or so, but no info, so no luck. Why didn't you post back then?!

You're right - the girls are sincerely sweet and beautiful. In fact, all Burmese were very friendly (not many tourists back then). I remember being at a small cafe and the waitresses were looking and giggling away - turned out they thought I resembled a famous Burmese pop star. I'm not asian, but I was a tanned and thin guy back then. :(

One thing to be careful of (at least 10 years ago) was the many plain-clothed cops, and even more informants. Being conspicuous meant we received a lot of unwanted attention from both.

Anyway, based on your reports, I will try to get there again one day. Keep up the great posts.

Piper

PS - since you're heading up-country, make sure you stay a night or at least visit at the Candacraig Hotel in the Maymo Hills just outside of Mandalay. I followed Paul Theroux's trail there, and ended up meeting and enjoying the hospitality of characters from his book (Riding the Red Rooster), all 15 years older of course.

There's sure to be action in Mandalay - let us know.

Hi!

After having a really nice experience a couple of months ago, I am thinking about going back next year for a bit longer.

Has anyone been in MM during the water festival? I saw something about it on TV recently, and it really seems to be the main event there.

yes, do come. The people here need the money. Unemployment is rife here and those lucky enough to find a decent job, earn a very miniscual amount. A government teacher I met other day told me she earns 6000 kyat (USD$ 6 ) a month!! To make ends meet she offers other services (tutouring and remedial classes) after hours.

No doubt the plain clothes cops and informants still exists and the working girls are all very careful not to be seen in the streets with foreigners. When I leave The Palace with my girl, we do so through the back entrance which leads immediately into an underground car park. We wait at the stairwell whilst some guys from The Palace security hails a cab for us. We're then quickly bundled into the cab and whisked away into the darkness of the streets of Rangoon. It's a bit like those James Bond movies. The security people at these clubs are excellent, however, and they do look after the girls well. There's bag and body searches before you enter the premises and I always feel safe whilst I'm there.

But I must say, I felt quite safe being with the girls as well and I think the plain clothes cops are more interested in political dissidents than happy mongerers. I'm guessing that the girls' fears are more to do with being extorted for their hard earned money by small time cops than being put away beind bars for being working girls. I've posted a report earlier mentioning that the authorities here are turning a blind eye to underground activities such as prostitution because of the economic crises facing this country. And with the affordability of some of the working girls to locals, I wouldn't be surprise that those in authority are the working girls' biggest clientle.

Thanks Piper1 for the tip on Mandalay however I'm currently [Location deleted by Admin at Poster's request]. Action is hard to find here and all the girls appear quite conservative. I found one Karaoke lounge where a lot of nicely dressed girls were coming and going. When I asked the owner whether these girls were available, he said yes, but for singing!! Well, I don't mind a few renditions of Hotel California in Burmese, but that won't get my rocks off. ;)

One of the girls I met at Asia Plaza from [Location deleted by Admin at Poster's request] told to look around the airport area near the food stalls. Last night I ventured to this area and, sure enough, there were heaps of girls there in groups of three or four, but don't know whether they were WG's or not. I will try my luck here again in the next few nights before heading back to Rangoon where hopefully, the girl I had from The Palace will be waiting. I'm planning on entering 2006 whilst being copulated with her. What a way to start the new year .. hope I can time to blow my load just as the clock strikes 12! :D

Drknolle, yes, I've experienced Thingyan (Water festival) on two separate occasions in the past. It's very much like Thailand's Songkran but a bit more organized with "watering stations" located along the major streets of Rangoon so that you can get wet as you drive by. You also get people in the streets with water pistols and buckets of water throwing water on you during the day time. Foreigners are often targets and so too are the women folk. On a good day, it's like a wet t-shirt contest as well and you get a bit of a looksie at some nice bods. :D

The only problem with coming to Burma at this time is the heat. April is the hottest month and temperatures can get as high as 38 to 40 degrees celsius!! IMHO Thingyan is fun for the first 2 days but after that, the novelty wears off and getting wet becomes tiresome. The festival lasts 4 or 5 days which I think is a bit too long, but then again, who am I to say?

Anyway, enjoy Burma ... I come here often and really can't get enough of the delights here. :D

This is not so much a report, but just some interesting information about the working girl scene here in Burma. The information is based on my encounter with one the working girl's boyfriends who invited me to a New Years day outing with him and a number of the girls. I never would have thought that I'd be spending my New Year's day with a bunch of Burmese prostitutes, but frankly speaking, after having got to know them these last three weeks or so, they are some of the nicest people I have come across in all of my travels.

First of all, I should say that although I was born and raised in Aussie land, one of my parents is of Asian heritage (although not Burmese) so I can pass quite easily as a local here. So I am able to blend into the local scene a lot easier than, say, a caucasian foreigner and thus get away with a little more in terms of being able to mix and minggle with the locals.

New Years eve was spent with my main girl and it was a night to remember. I must admit I'm quite superstitious and believe that if I'm in copulation with a working girl upon entering the New Year, then the following year will be a fruitful one as far as mongering goes. ;) I'll make this brief, because my reports tend to be long winded, so suffice to say that the night was spent in copulation in various positions including missionary and cowgirl which, by the looks of my main girl's trembling facial expressions, resulted in fireworks for the both of us, not dissimilar to those seen back home in my hometown of Sydney on New Years Eve. :D

The next day, New Years day, a two car convoy full with prostitutes, their mamasan, papasan and boyfriends and myself headed to some of the Buddhist pagodas and temples around Rangoon, one of which is the third most sacred site in Burma for the Buddhists. Here, they all paid their respects to Lord Buddha and made their homage in hope for a better and fruitful 2006. As we walked around together around the pagodas one would never have thought that the girls in our presence were working girls; they look as any other Burmese girls look complete with their Thanaka cosmetics and traditional attire.

I talked to my main girl's friend's boyfriend whom, as I've mentioned earlier, is highly educated from a well to do family, but fell in love with one of the girls that he had formerly acquired the services of when they first met at the night club 12 months ago. I have to admit it was very awkward at first talking to him, since I've fucked his girlfriend on two occasions before but he was quite philisophical about it saying that it's no problem because that's her profession and that he had come to terms with that a long time ago.

This is what I found out from him about the working girls here;

* Many of the girls that you see at the night clubs and discos come from brothels around town where they live with their mamasans/papasans. They are like family and accommodation and food is all provided for. They also have access to satellite TV (a luxury for many in Burma) and a decent place to live.

* Of the money they charge clients (usually 20,000 kyat LT or 15,000 ST), the mamasan keeps 60% and the girls 40%. The larger pecentage that the mamasan keeps helps to pay for other incidentals, like food and board and most importantly, to bail the girls out (ie to pay for bribes) if they are ever caught by the authorities. The mamasan also pays for the girls' entry fees into the clubs.

* There are many of these "houses" around Rangoon and many of the girls that you see in the night clubs are from various houses. This is why you'll often see them huddled in groups at the clubs as though they're all close friends. Actually, from what I've seen, the girls are more like sisters to each other than friends and they even call the mamasan and papasan "mother" and "father" in Burmese. It's like one large family.

*Many of the girls come from poor villagers on the outskirts on Rangoon and some of their family members don't know that they are infact working girls. Many think that they've gone to Rangoon to work in legit jobs. The girls however have been described to me as spiritually sound, of good integrity with beautiful souls. The money they make is sent to their families on a regular basis and some go back as often as once a week to their families .

* The girls at these houses in Rangoon are all checked for HIV /AIDs at least once every 6 months by NGOs with the assistance of UNAids. This is verified by main girl's friend's boyfriend who has actually sighted his girlfreiend's last AIDs report which of course is HIV negative. Where you read of the high incidence of AIDs amongst Burmese prostitutes, this often refers to those working on the border where NGO and UN access is difficult. When girls are detected as AIDs positive, the NGO's provide them with medical assistance and discourage them from woking any longer. This is very pleasing to know, so it pays to seek the services of girls from brothel houses rather than freelancers since the latter would have great difficulty in getting health checks by NGOs.

OK, that's all for the time being ... just a few days left on my visa before my mongering excursion to Burma is over. Hope the info here is useful for others.

Here's a question for you - maybe you can help as a fellow half-Australian (it's easy to guess your other half ;)): I travel from Dubai to Australia 2-3 times a year, and inspired by your posts, I'm hoping I can break up my long trips via a two day layover from Dubai to Australia in Rangoon. Is this practical? Hope so.

Is this practical? Hope so.I have a similar "problem"; i.e. finding stopovers for my trips frequently. For Rangoon, I found it easiest to enter via Bangkok. To my understanding, the only official and legal way into Myanmar is with airtravel to Rangoon. Thai Airways offers daily flights, it takes about 1 hour, cost was for me about 180 US$. Visa application and procedure was very easy for me, I think any BKK travel agent can do it within 24h.

There is no direct flight from Dubai to my knowledge, so you are in the unfortunate position that you might have to combine your Rangoon stopover with 1-2 nights in BKK. How bad is this.

Piper, yes, very much so. Thai Airways have good connections to Rangoon to/from Dubai and Oz without too much wait time in BKK. This is from their online schedules; (http://www.thaiairways.com)

Depart Dubai 5:55pm, Arr BKK 5:00am and the connecting flight to Rangoon is at 8:15pm only 3 hours later. You'll be in Rangoon at 9am the next morning.

For your onward trip to Oz, take the evening flight out of Rangoon to BKK which is at 7:45pm. You arrive BKK at 9:15pm and the connecting flight to Sydney is at 11:30pm BKK time. (There are flights to other cities around midnight too).

I can usually do Rangoon to Sydney in about 12 hours including the layover time in Bangkok which is pretty good going.

No problems, I've never been to Cambodia, but I hope the info I've provided here will be useful. I'll list the discos that I know of where you can very easily find girls but there isn't a hot zone or a red light district in Rangoon as such. Some of the girls at the discos aren't freelancers as such, but they're under the watchful eye of their mamasans who accompany them to the disco venues so many are under pressure to get customers, either for ST or LT. When I was at The Palace once, a group of Japanese men arrived ... about 10 of them altogether, and they were immediately surrounded by about 20 young girls, just like a flock of seaguls gathering around picnic goers at the beach. That's how easy it is to get girls at some of these disco venues. Many of the girls will go out looking for you rather than you having to look for them. :)

Ok, here are the disco venues where you can find working girls. I can quite confidently say that 90% of the girls you see at these places are prostitutes, but also beware of the very young looking ones and keep well away from them ..some look like they're only 13 or 14 and could quite easily get you in trouble.

The "High Class" venues have many girls who quite specifically look for foreigner clients. They'll sometimes quote you in US dollars, although many do prefer their local currency (as it's illegal for them to be holding USD). Many will ask around $50 USD (or 50,000 kyat) for a LT (overnight) but you can usually bargain this down to about 20,000 to 30,000 kyat.

The "high class" venues include;

*1. Pioneer Club. This is located at the Yuzana Garden Hotel (Lonely Planet Map on page 98, D2, #56), 44 Signal Pagoda Rd.

* 2. Asia Plaza Club. Located in the basement of the Asia Plaza hotel on the corner of Bogyoke Aung San Rd and Seik Kan Thar St. Cover charge is 2500 kyat.

* 3. BME2 Disco. This is located next to the Summit Parkview Hotel. (Lonely Planet map page 90, B3, #56)

The "local scene" venues on Shwedagon Pagoda Rd, between Mahabandoola St and Anawratha St (Lonely Planet map page 102, A2, #83). The girls here would normally quote you around 20,000 kyat LT (overnight). Many of the local scene girls don't speak English and some can be quite shy when it comes to being with foreigners. The venues include;

*1. The Palace. 6th Floor of the City Centre Plaza. This by far is my favourite place. There are heaps of girls and you can easily get some stunners here. Only problem with The Palace is that it closes early (about 11:30pm to 12am max) so get there early, at about 7:30pm. Cover charge is 2000 kyat.

* 2. Emperor. This is in the same building as The Palace, but on the 5th floor.

* 3. Shanghai Entertainment. Next to the City Centre Plaza.

And another "local scene" venue is Mingala Zei (Mingala Market) (Lonely Planet map 90, D3, #90). Here you'll find;

*1. Channel V (5th floor) and

*2. JJ's (4th floor).

Once again girls here will ask for 20,000 kyat for LT.

As for day time entertainment, you can try going to the MGM Hotel entrance (in War Dan St in the west end of town) and lurk there. Sooner or later, a guy will come up to you and ask whether you want lady. I tried that once and it worked .. they took me to a room with a collection of girls, but there were only 3 available; two were a little on the chubby side and one looked more like a kindergarten teacher than a hooker. I declined and headed out to Channel V instead. Aparently, however, the number and quality of girls varies from day to day and hour of the day, so it may well be an option if you';re desperate for day time action.

Hi Concarne, this is not possible. If you go from Chiang Rai and cross at the Mae Sai/Tachilek border, you'll need to catch a flight from there to Mandalay and beyond. You can only go overland from Tachilek north to Kengtung; west to Mandalay (and hence down to Rangoon) is not possible due to the area being closed off to foreigners. Even if you could do this, you wouldn't want to. Overland travel in Burma is really slow going. It took me 12 hours just to travel 250 km when I was there last. The roads are narrow and bumpy and the condition of the buses are quite poor.

So, fly into Rangoon. There is one flight a week from Chiang Mai on Air Mandalay (http://www.airmandalay.com), and from Bangkok you have many choices; Thai Airways (http://www.thaiairways.com), Bangkok Airways (http://www.bangkokair.com/), Biman Bangladesh Airlines (http://www.bimanair.com/) and Myanmar Airlines (http://www.maiair.com/homepage/default.asp).

Dear Concarne,

Agree with Sakaundeh completely on the road travels in Burma. Once I planned to travel from Teknaf (Bangladesh) to Mongdu to Rangoon. But the hassle of travelling from Teknaf to Mongdu was soo bad that I cancelled the trip. Better stick to air-routes.

Currently, from Singapore, very cheap ticket to Rangoon by Jetstar Asia (S$313 RT including taxes) and Silk Air. If you fly from Bangkok, stick to Thai or Bangkok Airways, both are pretty good.

Hi Jb, this used to be the case but not anymore. A few locals now have mobile phones too so I guess the authorities aren't as suspicious about them as they used to be. Note that you won't be able to use your mobile in Burma unless you're somewhere near the Thai border. I don't think any foreign telcos have roaming agreements with MPT (the Myanmar telco).

You can get a day pass in to Tachilek (the Burma side of the border at Mae Sai) for $5 USD. You do get another 30 day visa stamp when you reenter Thailand, though, according to the latest edition of Lonely Planet Burma (Myanmar).

Very quiet this burmese section recently... ain't nobody travelling around?? Anyway I'll be there again in a couple of weeks, and again the month later. Do you guys have information about the cities set up by (former?) drug lords, like Mong La? It seems to be a booming vice center near the chinese border. And there might be other similar cities. According to the thread here Mandalay is pretty quiet, yet some biz partners in yangoon tell me there's no shortage of ladies for the people settled there.

As I really like the overall feeling of Yangoon I might be in Myanmar more and more often, any interesting info to share?

Besides in Yangoon, I've been quite a bit in the famous clubs and they aren't bad, but any tip on how to get hotter girls, like local fashion models or actresses ... might be fun to try as i'm not on a particulary tight budget.

Also do you know of brothels or karaokes offering mostly fair skin girls, as they're unfortunately a tiny majority in the main clubs?

Cheers

Very quiet this burmese section recently... ain't nobody travelling around?? Anyway I'll be there again in a couple of weeks, and again the month later. Do you guys have information about the cities set up by (former?) drug lords, like Mong La?

I'll be back there again too in the next few weeks. Will keep everyone updated with the latest info. :) If you're looking for action near the Chinese border, I've heard that Muse is a happening place. I'm sure Mong La is too.

This is probably one of the best online maps of Rangoon (Yangon).

http://www.dpsmap.com/yangon/yangon_map_15.shtml

The Panorama Hotel is on the top right hand section of the map and just a block away to the right (or eastward) is the Asia Plaza Hotel and location of Asia Plaza club.

The Palace nightclub is quite clearly marked on the map (as Palace Entertainment) on Shwe Dagon Pagoda Rd, just south of Anawrahta Rd. The Emperor club is in the same building but different floors.

The pics I've attached below is the entrance to the building which houses the Palace and Emperor. At night, this entrance will have many taxis waiting outside as well as vendors selling condoms and facial tissues. After going in the building, the lift to Palace is on the left; take the lift on the right if you'd like to go to Emperor (5th floor).

Thanks for the compliments Jayagopal. Glad I can help with info. :)

There's no minimum stay requirement for Myanmar visas so you shouldn't have any problems popping into the country for only three nights and out again. I think it's been done once before by Kamking1 when he popped over for the weekend (see his earlier reports). If you're going now, then this is the low season due to the rainy season and hotels are easy to get without prior bookings. The rainy season ends early October so from then on, it'll get busy again.

If you're going from Bangkok, Air Asia (http://www.airasia.com/site/en/home.jsp) (low cost airline) have just started flying into Yangon. They're the cheapest (about $90 USD return including taxes) but their early morning flights from Yangon is not ideal if you have a girl with you overnight and need to get to the airport that same morning. Departure time is 8:30am which means you'll have to check-in at 7:00am. It may be difficult to get an early morning shag with your girl before you leave with those timings. But hats off to Air Asia for expanding their network into Rangoon. They should change their slogan to "Now everyone can monger" ;) LOL! Bangkok Airways is the next cheapest at $260 USD return. Have fun in Rangoon. :)

As a rule of thumb, Thailand should be your safest place to shop. Remember rule #1 when buying jewerly, if the deal seems to be too good, it is. Many people get ripped off because they are gready and think the good deal is a great deal when in fact it's a rip off.

I visited the Embassy of the Union of Myanmar today in 132 Thanon Sathon Neua, Silom, Bangkok, near Surasak BTS station, as I'm heading to Burma this weekend for three days. I thought I'd describe the tourist visa app. process to help others get through much quicker than I did.

I arrived at 10.45 am to a minimilistic room with a few basic notices, 3 teller windows & a few tourist pictures. Filled out the 2 perfunctory forms & then joined a queue until I noticed a sign saying take a token, so I waited at that window & got token number 49. Then they closed that window for the day, no more applications accepted until tomorrow. At that point the counter was on 15, 1 hour later it was on 20. They close for lunch from 12 to 1 so I came back at 1.30 & they were up to 25. Somehow my turn came up at 3.20, a very long wait indeed. Moral of the story, arrive at 9am or be prepared to wait for hours.

Shortcuts. There are 2 guys that hang around a desk in the room, that are actually very helpful & friendly if you talk to them. If you sit there looking lost they will ignore you all day. I was slightly friendly to them, laughing at their mucking around when good songs came on the TV. So when it came to the end of the day & some people had not come back for their slot they gave me one of those tokens & I jumped the queue several places.

Also if you do find yourself arriving very late, as 2 girls did just before I left, if you are polite & not pushy at all they may just let you put in your application after everyone else has finished. But don't expect this to happen.

Opening hours 9-12 & 1-3. Passport with visa collection 48 hours, or less if you want to pay a small amount more, can be done in 3 hours for well under 2000B.

Any advise on easier ways of getting Burma visa would also be appreciated

I will also be going back to Cambodia & Vietnam After or before, depending on how my travel plans work out.

If you are connecting through Bangkok, spend at least 2 days in Bangkok and give it to almost any tour agent and they wiill arrange visa for you. They service charge is only 300-500 bahts depend on the agents plus the visa fees according to your urgency. Actually all the tour agents centrally give it to another big special visa agent for service.

Last time I paid to some tour agent in Silom, Bangkok, I remember I paid 1200 or 1300 bahts total visa fees and service charge, took regular option 3 days. You can have it in 2 days through tour agents for a few hundreds more.

If you apply for the visa yourself at the embassy it'll only cost you 810B and it will only take 2 days. Just make sure you arrive at 9am to apply for the visa. Also collection happens at 3.30 on the day it's ready, arrive there at 2.30 & wait under the window & you should be out of there in no time.

I've not seen public wifi access in Myanmar in all my travels. The Internet (as in World Wide Web) is fairly new to Myanmar. The first public internet cafe was opened in Rangoon only in 2003. The only ISP there at the time was Bagan Net which was owned by General Khin Nyunt's son .. Khun Nyunt was once the PM of Myanmar and head of Military Intelligence so you'd imagine there'd be "web and email sniffing" of some kind behind the scenes by the authorities.

Local Myanmar citizens are not permitted to use any web mail services other than those provided for by Bagan Net. Consequently, Hotmail and Yahoo Mail and alot of other free web based email services have been blocked in Myanmar. Strangely enough, however, Gmail seems to get through via a back door for those who are Net savvy enough to tinker around with their browser settings.

It's not possible to block all web mail services out there .. only the popular ones have been blocked, so if you have an obscure web based email service somewhere back home (eg, your work email, or home ISP's web mail), then this may be accessible, purely for the fact that the authorities there won't know what it's URL is and therefore won't be able to block it.

As for internet cafes in Rangoon, well there are many. The easiest one to find is Cyberworld opposite the Traders Hotel on Sule Paya Rd and from memory, it's about 1000 kyats an hour. Another place is at the top floor of Myanmar Shopping Centre, on Sule Paya Rd just a couple of doors down from the fire brigade. There are also Internet cafes on Pansodan St about a block or two south of the Panorama Hotel.

Beware though, that the Internet in Myanmar can be painfully slow.

Regarding smoking: There are no regulations against smoking in public buildings in Myanmar so you'll get people smoking in bars, restaurants, lifts etc .. Myanmar is still very very much before the times. It'll be a huge culture shock to many I'm sure, but bear in mind that the country has been isolated from the outside world for over 40 years and have only just started to open its doors again.

I am arriving in Bangkok late Sunday, Dec 17. What's the best way possible for me to get a Visa to Myanmar if I I'm to take a flight there very early Wednesday morning, the 20th? That leaves me only the 18th and 19th to arrange. Go to Khao San road and get a travel agent to do it or go to the embassy? I'm looking for my best chance to definitely get one.

I can't speak for Myanmar visas, but every other type of visa I have needed (China/Laos/Cambo/Vietnam/India) has been far quicker to get through Khao San agencies whilst letting it be known that you are happy to pay a tip for 'extra-express' service. I once had a Cambodian one within an hour and a half by offering a 1000B bonus.

It is also worth noting that Myanmar has a visa on arrival scheme - I am not sure how it works though, I have vague memories of a friend telling me all you need is a hotel booking (which will be checked) and $20. It is worth a google anyway.

I have acquired a visa through the Myanmar Embassy in Bangkok, I wrote an extensive report about it on these pages.

It is at least a day quicker & a lot cheaper if you do it yourself. Just make sure you arrive at the Embassy at opening time, which I forget, maybe 9 or 9.30. Anyway it won't hurt to be early, it will hurt to be late. You should be able to get a visa by the next day for around 2500 baht, again I'm going on my shaky memory on that price but it won't be far out.

Do dig out my earlier report as it will help you to minimise time wasted. Sorry I'm to lazy to find a link to it.

Does anyone know if Rangoon ins the only entry point, or can you fly Chiang Mai - Mandalay ? I have found contradictory info about this. Also, would it be possible to enter the country from Maesai and take a flight from Tachilek to Mandalay or elsewhere out of the Shan state ? Alternatively, is it OK to exit the country from Mandalay to Tachilek and Maesai ?

Is it still mandatory to exchange certain amount of money at the official rate ?

Thanks.

You can enter burma (with visa) from mae sai , ask if you can exit burma fron yangon or mandalay, then fly to mandalay or yangon on yangon airways. it is about $60. one way, leaves at about 14:30. makes 2 or 3 stops . As far as I know mandalay has no boom boom. It may be cheaper to fly air asia bangkok- chaing rai round trip, then bus to mae sai (but keep your visa for yangon), see the brothels of tachileik, then fly air asia bangkok -yangon round trip. I am going to try next week.

If you're referring to changing USD$200 to FEC's, the answer to that is no. That rule was abolished around 2003. FEC's are still legal tender in Myanmar however, but don't touch them. If you pay in USD (for hotels and flights), make sure you get your change in USD and not FEC's.

Air Mandalay (http://www.airmandalay.com/) do have have flights between Chiang Mai and Mandalay on Thursdays but check their website for current info.

Thanks for all that.
Now I am confused because my friend called the Burmese consulate today in Bangkok and they were adamant that it is not allowed to travel to Mandalay nor Rangoon from Tachilek. Are you absolutely certain it is OK ?
Also, is it correct that there is no other Burmese consulate in Thailand than the one in Bangkok ? They don't seem to be able to arrange a visa by post, so everyone who wishes to travel to Burma must apply and depart from Bangkok, right ?
My friend also got the info from that consulate that express visa actually don't exist and the only procedure is the three working days wait.
Last, on Air Mandalay website, I can find the Chiangmai-Mandalay thursday flight, but there doesn't seem to be a Mandalay-Chiangmai flight. ???? This could mean that it is allowed to enter but not to leave Burma from Mandalay. Still, I am surprised this airline runs a route where they fly empty on the way back home...

Erik

I understand, Air Mandalay have a rotation Rangoon-Chiangmai-Rangoon every Friday and Sunday, and a rotation Rangoon-Chiangmai-Mandalay every Thursday. Too bad, what I wanted to do is precisely Mandaly-Chiangmai when exiting Burma. There are indirect flights from Mandalay to the Shan states main cities, but I am still not sure if the cops at Mandalay let you go this way out.

Got my Myanmar Visa today. Went to travel agency first because I heard the embassy only gives out a certain number of slots. Went to Dior Travel on Khao San road (somewhere in the middle, next to Mama travel) about 10:00am. First they say two days apply Monday get Wednesday, but I ask "any other way, I pay extra" so the girl gave a call and said okay, you get tomorrow after 6pm for 2200baht ($62). They borrowed my passport and took a copy of my flight info and 2 pictures. I hear you need three though, so maybe I’ll still use the third one somewhere. Maybe unnecessary but at least I have a Visa since my plane leaves tomorrow at 6am.

Lady also said, "why you go to Myanmar, a lot of people want to get visa to Myanmar," I wonder why myself.

During my next trip to South-East Asia I was thinking about taking a detour and visit the country of Burma (or Myanmar as they like to call it nowadays). One hears stories about it's oppressive military dictaroship, but how much does the average tourist notice of this? Is it the same or different from the dictatorship currently in place in Thailand? How is the "culture of prostitution" in Burma? Does the military government condone it, seeing it as a source of money? Or does it ban it as "western decadence"? Do the girls there accept it as part of life, as a way to make a quick buck like in Thailand, or not? As you can see a lot of questions, but I'm giving it some serious thought. Some answers, especially concerning the prostitution part, would be highly appreciated.

Van Velen, this post I made some time ago (http://www.internationalsexguide.info/forum/showpost.php?p=411261&postcount=22) may help to answer some of your queries about mongering in Burma. Prostitution is illegal in Burma and very much an underground activity but the authorities appear to turn a blind eye to it for the reasons discussed in the article I quoted. The girls are very different from those found in Thailand; their attitude, the way they dress and how they respond during the sessions etc are all very different. There's a lot of info of mine and others' experiences here to give you a feel of the situation. I suggest you start off from the "reports of distinction" section for Burma. It's all very good advice. :)

is it the same or different from the dictatorship currently in place in thailand?

the dictatorship in thailand, if you can call it that is a benign one with virtually no oppression of any kind and a relatively free press.

the situation in burma is 180 degrees in the opposite direction with freedom of speech obliterated, politcial expression banned, the rightfully elected government either banned or under house arrest and a systematic campaign of terror and murder throughout the country with frequent acts of ethnic cleansing and wholesale slaughter. human rights abuses are the mainstay of the burmese junta.

virtually all hotels are goverment owned or owned by businessmen, (mostly chinese) in bed with the government. most of the money that tourists spend goes into the coffers of the cash-strapped government which allows them to continue their campaign of control and terror. while it is true that the money spent by mongers goes directly to the girls, all the other money they spend helps the burmese government.

as far as i'm concerned, anyone going to burma for any sort of holiday is helping to perpetuate one of the worst regimes on the planet. saddam hussein had nothing over these guys and look where he ended up.

turning a blind eye for the sake of personal pleasure is nothing short of selfishness. i would seriously think twice about going there for any reason.

Some very valid points, there, Old Thai Hand and if there was anything I could personally do to change the way things are in Burma, I'd do it immediatey. My affinity and love for the country and its people extends beyond just mongering. But unfortunately, there is very little I, nor the average Joe Monger can do to change the political landscape there. US trade embargo and travel boycots have very little impact on the government and will not change anything in Burma.

Thailand junta is moving in the direction of Myanmar very quickly. Only 4 months after they seized power, they have scared the shit out of all foreign investors, and imposed extensive sensorship even applied to all foreign medias, these guys have closed almost all websites that are not friendly to them, they have very obvious agenda of "closed nation" policy. Its quite obvious they intend to slash foreign influences and gag all domestic intellectuals so they can continue to manipulate this dirt poor nation. As the Asian Human Rights Commissions points out this Thai junta is a typical hypocrite junta, a very serious statement released by Asian Human Rights Commission on Dec 18, 06 slamming the Thai junta titled" 3 months of hypocrisy" stabs straight into the hearts of these hypocrites.

One thing so much in common in Myanmar and Thailand is that all mass medias, TV, newspapers, radios, without exception are all military/government owned and controlled, even internet is heavily sensored in Thailand just like Myanmar. And we all know from the history thats how the people of power manipulate their poor masses. With the complete control of the mass medias and total oppression of intellectual thoughts, its so easy to keep the masses dumb, tamed, and ignorant, and its so easy for a bunch of devils to depict themselves as good Samaritans.

Well prior to my last visit to Burma, i also thought about the political situation, dictatorship, tourists funding the junta and the leader asking tourists not to visit etc etc etc..
But still went there and found that the people are really sweet, IMHO sweetest in south east asia. Mongering aside people were really nice to interact, always willing to help. And as much as you try, you cannot avoid funding the junta, but you can still help a few locals to earn some money which is not at all possible if tourists dont go at all.
And of course mongering, a decent girl earns much much more than a person working in the govt offices.
So Burma, here i come again in mid March. I can see that people have contributed enough to this forum on the latest info for a avg joe monger to have a great time. And Sakaundeh I do hope that mobile number still works and i can give a try on that indian "mamasan".

Well, I'm sure none of the guys here wants a long protracted political debate back and forth, I'd just like to say that while on the surface some of what you say about Thailand is true, you grossly overstate it and it sounds more like international community rhetoric, than the reality on the ground.

I've lived in Thailand over 10 years, through 4 governments. This one is still better than what the coup overthrew. While there has been some cosmetic attempts at media control etc. I don't think it is that serious. Much of what you describe was already in place under the former democratically-elected Taksin government which the coup deposed. The army has owned most of the TV and radio stations for a long time, well before the current government. Internet censorship was initiated under Taksin. But, the army doesn't own all media. You are wrong there. There are also several privately owned media companies (The Nation, for example) and their news wings have not been suppressed in any way that I've noticed. There is still criticism in the daily press of the government without any suppression. You can freely express your opinion without retribution. There have been a number of protests and nobody has gone to jail. Try that in Burma and see how far you get. A British citizen was jailed a few years ago for protesting against the Burmese Junta on a street corner in Rangoon.

The Thai government doesn't send death squads into villages to exterminate their own people. The Burmese Generals do. The Thai people welcomed and still largely support the coup. The large numbers of Burmese refugees living in camps in Northern Thailand would tell you that nobody in Burma supports this murderous regime.

There simply is no comparison between the two governments.

All these Southeast Asian backwaters are still politically and socially refered to as the "chicken in the cage scenarios". The ruling hierarchy of these nations that include Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia ect all fit into this political scenarios.

These hierarchies set the length, width and height of the cages for thier chickens, as long as their chickens stay in the cage, the chickens are welcomed to roam freely happily and ignorantly inside the domain of the cages, as long as they do not poke at the metal bars, they are not punished. The Thailand chicken cage is somewhat bigger than the Myanmar one but its shrinking very fast.

Both of these 2 cages also has electric shock wires taped at various places. When the Myanmar chickens poke at the Ang Sun Suu Ki or the military wires, then they get fried. When the Thai chickens poke at the king/monarch/military wire, they also get fried.

The ultimate agenda of all these SEA backwater cages is all the same. To continue manipulation of the chickens, and keep the chickens ignorant and tamed as long as possible, so the hierarchial overlords can preserve their power, their embezzeled wealths and benifits, and of course they can continue playing chicken gods.

There's one girl from that mamasan who I really liked ... she used to do acrobatic cowgirls on me after a thorough BBBJ which I found quite appealing. I'm quite surprised and impressed by the time and effort you guys have put into delving into the scene in Myanmar and writing it all up, especially Sakaundeh. (I notice that your username means "tasty", or literally, "is good to eat" :) ).

I commend the work of everyone here, because Myanmar can be a difficult place to travel. It's nowhere near as foreigner-friendly as Thailand. It's definitely not a place to visit for anyone new to international travel, unless they are accompanied by someone who has either been there or has travel experience. I've been there three times now and even my last trip (from 5 December 2006 to 28 December 2006) was difficult. I took precautions with food and drink and still became quite ill (vomiting and diarhoea). Also, the pollution is as bad as ever. People think Bangkok pollution is bad, but it was a relief to arrive in Bangkok from Yangon, the pollution there is around 4 times as bad as Bangkok. I had to wear a surgical face mask there... by the end of the each day there'd be an obvious dark patch on it in the area that I breathed through. I'm in Bangkok now and I've never feel the need to wear a mask.

I only discovered this forum recently, and since I'm in Thailand I've been using it to find out about the scene in Thailand.

But it has been fascinating to read about the scene in Myanmar, where I've been a few times already but have never known about the sex industry there.

Despite all the negative things, it's still a wonderful and charming place in many ways. There is still an air of mystery and exoticism because so few foreigners venture there. Foreigners considering a visit must be prepared to get stared at intensely everywhere they go in public!

I'd like to return, but this time to check out what I've been missing out on - the sex.

I am a bit budget conscious though, since I don't have a full-time job and my income is sporadic and low. In Bagan I managed to find a place that cost 5 USD per night, maybe there are places like that around in Yangon.

I think the big advantage I have is that I can speak the language - my parents are from there. Our background is mostly Chinese, so I look Chinese. But I've lived in Australia for most of my life, which is why my English is perfect. I can't read or write Myanmar though, but speaking and understanding Myanmar makes a huge difference when I'm there. Sakaundeh, it was funny reading some of the phrases in your reports, you did a good job putting them into makeshift english words, they sound close enough. I'm impressed that you made an effort to learn some of the language.

Maybe the Myanmar girls would see me as a potential husband (since we can communicate with each other) and a ticket out of oppressive Myanmar and thus would do anything to please me. Maybe I could play it that way in order to get want I want without needing to make the monetary transactions. I could go around picking up nice ordinary girls wherever they hang out.

I'll let you guys know if I do decide to return. Maybe I could meet up with some of you, I might be useful to you since I can speak the language. Sakaundeh, it would be particularly good to meet with you one day.

I'm quite surprised and impressed by the time and effort you guys have put into delving into the scene in Myanmar and writing it all up, especially Sakaundeh.

HF .. welcome to ISG. I was in Myanmar at the same time as you in December. Pity you didn't know about ISG then or it would have been great to meet up and explore the scene together. This place fascinates me so much that I find myself coming here on a regular basis; my main reason is not for mongering however, but it gives me a good chance to improve on my Myanmar zaga ;) as well as learn more about the people's lives there. (And yes, even the WG's have political views about the country.)

Yes, my nickname here means 'tasty' or 'delicious' in Myanmar language. I decided on this after having had some great BBBJ from the acrobatic WG I reported on earlier. I used to ask her after she gave me a BBBJ "Sa kaun la?" (Does it taste good?), and she would reply "Sa kaun deh" (Yes, it was delicious). :D LOL!

HF, the girls I know who have boyfriends would still charge you for their services if they are tied to a mamasan. I know this since I had a friend (a very well-to-do Myanmar citizen who fell in love with one of the girls and eventually married her). He was charged by the mamasan for taking his gf away for the night. And my 'Yizar' I reported about in my recent reports also confirmed this. If it's a freelancer, then I guess you're in a much better position to negotiate something with her directly but then you'll have other 'expenses' if you know what I mean, since you'll be seen as a supplement to her other income.

Haha yes I thought there was some sexual connotation, even though I've never heard that phrase used in a sexual context by the locals... though what would I know, I've had no sexual experience there yet. I never found Myanmar to be sleazy at all, it's a world apart from Thailand/Bangkok. I'm just guessing that the girls just don't talk dirty. I think there is hardly any pornography in the country, and internet access is so bad that pornography on the internet is inaccessible. So they have little to learn from, other than their few actual encounters with punters or sessions with boyfriends... though the "no sex before marriage" rule seems to be upheld strongly in the culture, which may be one reason for the lack of sexual experience.

(As an aside, I was in love with a girl back in Australia last year and was willing to pay for all travel expenses for her to accompany me on my travels. I'm now glad that didn't eventuate. I would've regretted it, especially now that I'm staying in Bangkok.)

I think any girl who truly loved a guy would be happy not to ask for any money in return for company. True love can overcome boundaries and restrictions. That's the angle I'm thinking of pursuing. It may be just a matter of playing it the right way. The risk, and it is a real possibility, is that I fall madly in love and I end up spending thousands of dollars on her... and then when I fall out of love (also a real possibility) I realise how stupid I was and end being an emotional wreck for many months!

Yes, likewise. Would like to meet you as well. Send me a PM of where you are in Oz. I may not be too far away.I don't intend to return to Australia any time soon. I'm staying in Bangkok at the moment. I'm not sure when I'd visit Myanmar again, because I am just a bit tight with money at the moment, especially after realising how much money I've spent on the Bangkok girls (I was staying in Rajah mansion, a short walk from Nana "Entertainment" Plaza). A 10-day Myanmar trip would cost me at least 300 AUD just for flights and accomodation, plus 100 AUD in lost money due to rent payment for my apartment in Bangkok. Maybe I could take advantage of my Myanmar "zaga" and do some business there, to cover costs and get an extra stream of income, that would give me more of a reason to make trips there.

Ollie Ggc, I know of one instance where a person's visa application was rejected by one Embassy but approved by another enroute. So you can try your luck again in BKK and apply for the visa there. Let us know how you go.

Just wondering why your visa's been rejected? What did you write in the "Occupation" section? The authorities have rejected those who have written "journalist" or "reporter" or somehthing of that nature as their occupation. I hope you also didn't write under the "purpose of visit" section "rooting beautiful Myanmar ladies". That's another ground for visa application rejection, I believe. ;)

HF, I think you're right. I've never heard any of the girls talk dirty and all seem very courteous and polite. I asked my "Yizar" how to say "blow job" and "DATY" in Myanmar zaga; At first she was quite shy to tell me but after I kept asking, she finally told me. But she made sure no one was around in case someone overheard her. She then whispered these words to me very very softly! LOL!

If anyone's interested, "blow job" in Burmese is "Li sok" (literally cock suck) :D and if I remember correctly, DATY is "A'pu sok" (although I don't think I've got that right). :D

My occupation is the problem, I wrote it in such a general way that you can see that it's correct if you stand really far. That one should have been OK. My guess is that they googled my name or something. If you do that you will get lots of pages of what I do and for who.

I'm going to try it again in Bangkok through a middleman. Hopefully it works and otherwise by a ticket to China or Indonesia for example.

It will be a bit more difficult on planning.

The most recent mention of prices, just a few posts back, said 20, 000 K, for a romp with a local gal. I did an XE conversion and that was something like $3000 US! Obviously the K and the MKk are different.

In order to keep prices in line, what are people paying for short time / Long time, in dollars, and what conversion method should I use when I read reports?

Thnkx in advance. I'll be sure to write up a good report on my adventures when I get back in July.

Is there someone you have been there recently to update some infos?

I spent 4 days in Yangon recently, on my first trip to Myanmar. I printed out Sakaundeh's report on pickup joints

For a guide (quoted below), but I forgot to note that it was TWO YEARS OLD. So, I'm here to provide some updates to it from my experience, and to add a bit of my own information.

Note: Thank you, Sakaundeh, as this list of places was invaluable; it was my own fault that I neglected the age of the report (it was posted 01-18-06 at 21:54). My comment about the age of the report is mostly about my experience with girls response to 20k LT. Many of them walked away when they heard that number.

Note: The comment in Sakaundeh's report about the local clubs is to arrive early (7:30pm); I interpreted this to mean that I should arrive at all of the clubs by that time. This was universally too early. Both for local places and for "high class" venues. Way too early.

Note: Girls will not stay to finish the drink you buy them, and will walk away whenever they feel like it. They might even hand the drink you just bought them to their friends.

Note: This should be obvious, but don't assume LT, even if most/all of the reports on these places discuss LT prices.

Note: 20k/LT seems low these days, even for local venues, unless you want an ugly girl with stretch marks. 30-35k seems more reasonable, based on my experience.

Note: Burmese appear to enjoy telling blatant lies that they will be caught at, outright, in the near future. Such as "no baby" = "severe stretch marks" and "no money, I'm being hospitable" = "I will ask you for money within the next 10 minutes. " (at a pagoda) Some lying I'm used to, but not such bald-faced nonsense as this.

Note: Sakaundeh, if I recall correctly, is SE Asian and speaks burmese to some extent. I'm a pale white guy that speaks no burmese. This may explain some differences in pricing reactions, in addition to the age of the report.

Night 1, Saturday:

As I was staying at Panorama, I went to Asia Plaza Club. My friend and I arrived at about 7:30 or 8pm and paid a 3000 kyat cover charge that included one drink (tiger beer, can). The club had few customers, but lots of girls. We were seated at a couch/table and the girls circled around us waiting for us to choose. At this point, most of them were chubby, one or two attractive. I chose one with a nice face and bought her a drink. As she spoke no english, there was an accompanying mamasan that negotiated for her. The mamasan assured me "no baby. " The girl wouldn't let me inspect her stomach, and it felt a bit loose, but after meeting chubby girls in the Philippines, I chose to accept their assertion. I made the assumption of LT without asking (mistake). She initially asked for 50k, but came down to 30k.

I wanted to continue drinking there with my friend, but the girl was clearly anxious to go. My friend bought a round of drinks, and the girl passed hers off to her friends instead of drinking it. I believe her beers were 2000; ours were 3000. We got up to leave, and I expected a quick walk back to Panorama (1/2 block away), but she pressured for a taxi for 2000 kyat. I tried to argue it, but got semi-dragged into the taxi. Around the block to the hotel, stop the taxi, I tried to pay 1000. And the driver started to drive somewhere to express his objection. I just paid the full 2000 (which is a cross-town fare) to get out. Up to the room, she runs into the bathroom, comes out in a towel and into bed. Once the towel comes off, the horror show begins. Terrible stretchmarks, despite the assurances of "no baby; " I should have trusted my instinct. No smell from the pussy, but she cleaned that before coming out. Covered BJ, sex, etc. Afterwards, she jumps up and wants to go home. I communicated by pointing and using the few english words she understood that 30k was only if she stayed the night, and only 20k if she left. After the taxi affair, I'm sure I looked like a total prick, but given the "no baby" lies, I was already in a bad mood. She accepted 20k and went home; sounded like she wanted to take care of her kid (s).

Night 2, Sunday:

My friend and I walked over to "the local scene. " Short distance on the map, sweaty distance in reality. I'd made sure to clean up beforehand, despite my friend's statement that burmese girls weren't going to care. We first went up to The Palace, 6th floor. 3000 kyat entry, one beer (tiger can). Sat at the bar, some girls crowded around, again most were a bit chubby, some cute. Again, we showed up around 7:30 or 8pm. Although the Palace does a fashion show, it wasn't until 10pm, so we were very early. Being used to Bangkok, I again bought some drinks. One for an indian girl (spoke some english), one for a cute Chinese/burmese type (no english). Sat down with both, discovered the indian girl had a similar belly to the girl from the previous night (probable kid), but she assured me that she had "no baby. " The cute one had a tight stomach. 300 (three hundred) kyat for a coffee for the indian, and I believe similar for the soft drink that the other girl had.

I asked the cute to go, and she asked for 40k. I countered at 20k, she countered at 40k again. I smiled. She got up and walked away from her drink, no negotiation. Indian girl said she'd go for 30k, or 40k for both her and a friend (not the one that ran away). The indian girl, while cute, had a suspicious stomach (told me "no baby, " but not allowed to inspect, and dark room anyway), and also smelled a bit of sweat. I left for Emperor, and she followed me out into the lobby.

Into Emperor, perhaps 9-9:30pm by now. 3000 kyat entry = tiger beer/can, lots of girls, one of which attached herself to me at the door. They were doing the fashion show, and lots of chubby girls parading around, with some good lookers. A fair number of customers for the time of night. The girl that attached herself at entry was half indian, white skin, cute face, but again the suspicious stomach (loose), and again the assurance of "no baby. " Given her attentions, none of the other girls were approaching me, and she was cute enough. She started at 40k, came down to 25k, then asked for 30k LT (I was using 20k as a target). Given my previous experience with "no baby" and loose stomach, I was about to pass and send her away, but she said "no baby, no money" and "guarantee. " I agreed, 2000 kyat taxi back to Panorama (much more than 1/2 block away this time, so ok), and up to the room.

First things first, we walk to the mirror and I lift up her shirt to find a horror show of stretch marks, as I'd suspected when I first felt her in the bar. She *still* says "no baby. " I point to her stomach and say "baby. " She repeats, "no baby, doctor cut" and makes an X motion with her hand. Back and forth: "baby" and pointing, her repeating "no baby. " I sent her away with only taxi fare; she honored her guarantee. By "no baby, " I think she meant "no vaginal birth, I had a cesarean, therefore my pussy is still tight. " No thanks. I didn't go out for any other action, as I was tired of the bullshit.

Night 3, Monday:

Out alone tonight, I went up to JJ's. Again way to early at 7:30-8pm; I was told that the fashion show didn't start until 11pm. Again the circle of girls, again the 3000 kyat entry and tiger beer/can. This place had some attentive male attendants, one of whom spoke execellent english and provided interpretation services and help in procuring the right girl. First lineup of girls was chubby, second lineup still not so good (girl missing a tooth, etc), but then had a real cutie brought over. Again bought her a drink (3000 for a can of red bull). Had to wait a while for that. Tight stomach, tight body, small stature, cute. Lovely. She asks for 50k, I counter at 20k, and the attendant replies that he can give her that information if I like. (he put it obliquely, which I now realize was his attempt at warning me on price). She counters at 50k again, no reduction, no negotiation. I smile and say my friend told me it was 20k in this place. So the girl gets up and walks away after only one sip of her drink. 3 venues, 3 problems with the 20k figure. And 2 of the venues were "local places. "

The girls filter away after this, but the attendant talks to the mamasan and has her bring down the selection available for 20k LT. I chose a skinny, mousy type (tight stomach), 18yo. Before leaving, I give the attendant 2k for his services, and he tells me that at 30-35k I would have had a lot better luck. Then I left with the girl, into a taxi for 2k back to Panorama.

Back in the room, the (cute) mouse takes off her shirt, and a packet of pills falls out of her bra. She's very skinny, and this little plastic bag of mixed pills looks like the day's drug cocktail as prescribed by a doctor; not sure what they were, but it made me a bit nervous. Maybe 5 pills of varying types in total, and she took them all after the first round of sex. I still went through with the evening, however. No fluid contact, condoms only, a good [CodeWord140] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord140) and lots of scrubbing in the shower afterwards. Pussy smelled fine, but I didn't dine.

After the first round, she asked if she could go home, but I indicated she should stay. She didn't argue and spent the night. Had another round in the morning, sent her off with 20k and 2k taxi.

Night 4, Tuesday:

Decided to try Pioneer Club, Yuzana Garden Hotel. Walked over from Panorama, stopping at a Beer station on the way. Pioneer is closed, sounded like that was permanent. The hotel staff directed me over to Park Royal Hotel across the street, where I was obliged to pay $5 or 6000 kyat cover. That $5 got me. You guessed it. A can of tiger beer and small plate of peanuts. The girls in the club looked pretty good, even though it was about 8pm. Spoke english. None of them approached me, although all made eye contact; all of them were obviously working girls. I got the impression that they'd be quite expensive, but I never asked. I finished my beer and left, but not before killing two cockroaches on the bar in this very expensive hotel disco. After that, I didn't feel like dealing with the scene any more, so just went back to a beer station and drank for 500 kyat/glass.

END OF REPORT

Again, thanks to Sakaundeh for the information. Based on later posts to the forum, the 20k figure seemed fine to me, so the date on his report didn't get immediately noticed. But it seems clear to me, after those experiences, that 20k is not the right figure if you want a girl without stretchmarks and with a full set of teeth. I'll repeat the JJ's guy's advice: 30-35k will probably get better results. And, 7:30pm is way too early.

No problems, I've never been to Cambodia, but I hope the info I've provided here will be useful.

I'll list the discos that I know of where you can very easily find girls but there isn't a hot zone or a red light district in Rangoon as such. Some of the girls at the discos aren't freelancers as such, but they're under the

Watchful eye of their mamasans who accompany them to the disco venues so many are under pressure to get customers, either for ST or LT. When I was at The Palace once, a group of Japanese men arrived. About 10 of them

Altogether, and they were immediately surrounded by about 20 young girls, just like a flock of seaguls gathering around picnic goers at the beach. That's how easy it is to get girls at some of these disco venues. Many of the girls will go out looking for you rather than you having to look for them.

Ok, here are the disco venues where you can find working girls. I can quite confidently say that 90% of the girls you see at these places are prostitutes, but also beware of the very young looking ones and keep well away from them. Some look like they're only 13 or 14 and could quite easily get you in trouble.

The "High Class" venues have many girls who quite specifically look for foreigner clients. They'll sometimes quote you in US dollars, although many do prefer their local currency (as it's illegal for them to be holding USD). Many will ask around $50 USD (or 50, 000 kyat) for a LT (overnight) but you can usually bargain this down to about 20, 000 to 30, 000 kyat.

The "high class" venues include;

*1. Pioneer Club. This is located at the Yuzana Garden Hotel (Lonely Planet Map on page 98, D2, #56), 44 Signal

Pagoda Rd.

* 2. Asia Plaza Club. Located in the basement of the Asia Plaza hotel on the corner of Bogyoke Aung San Rd and Seik

Kan Thar St. Cover charge is 2500 kyat.

* 3. BME2 Disco. This is located next to the Summit Parkview Hotel. (Lonely Planet map page 90, B3, #56)

The "local scene" venues on Shwedagon Pagoda Rd, between Mahabandoola St and Anawratha St (Lonely Planet map page

102, A2, #83). The girls here would normally quote you around 20, 000 kyat LT (overnight). Many of the local scene

Girls don't speak English and some can be quite shy when it comes to being with foreigners. The venues include;

*1. The Palace. 6th Floor of the City Centre Plaza. This by far is my favourite place. There are heaps of girls and

You can easily get some stunners here. Only problem with The Palace is that it closes early (about 11:30pm to 12am

Max) so get there early, at about 7:30pm. Cover charge is 2000 kyat.

* 2. Emperor. This is in the same building as The Palace, but on the 5th floor.

* 3. Shanghai Entertainment. Next to the City Centre Plaza.

And another "local scene" venue is Mingala Zei (Mingala Market) (Lonely Planet map 90, D3, #90). Here you'll find;

*1. Channel V (5th floor) and

*2. JJ's (4th floor).

Once again girls here will ask for 20, 000 kyat for LT.

As for day time entertainment, you can try going to the MGM Hotel entrance (in War Dan St in the west end of town)

And lurk there. Sooner or later, a guy will come up to you and ask whether you want lady. I tried that once and it

Worked. They took me to a room with a collection of girls, but there were only 3 available; two were a little on

The chubby side and one looked more like a kindergarten teacher than a hooker. I declined and headed out to Channel

V instead. Aparently, however, the number and quality of girls varies from day to day and hour of the day, so it

May well be an option if you'; re desperate for day time action. I spent 4 days in Yangon recently, on my first trip to Myanmar. I printed out Sakaundeh's report on pickup joints

Thanks for the TR! I'm always happy to read about Myanmar, one of my favorite places, but TRs are few and far between.

Looks like you learned the hard way about the pricing. 20K was a bit optimistic during the time of the original post, IMHO, and is really out of date now. I don't think you can get decent LT for under $20 anywhere anymore, even Cambodia. Your waiter was right about the 30K - 35K. Even then, I think better is available for a bit more.

It seems since the gov't eased up, venues stay open much later and the action doesn't get started until much later. 7:30 - 8:00 used to be fairly normal, but, thankfully, that doesn't seem to be the case any longer.

My last trip, I spent 6 great days with a cute Bamar/Chinese girl, university degree, very good English, local guys would drool whenever she walked by, $50/day. I'm nobody special, so they're out there to be had.

Good luck, and post more TRs if you go back. BTW, any pix?

But still 30.000 is not bad for a LT. I will be going to Yangon for 3 days at the end of next week and will see what is happening. Only I hate fat girls with flubby stomach!

Thanks for the report, sorry you didn't have a better time.

- I can't recall ever agreeing to pay more than 20k on any occaission over the last few years (lowest agreed was US$5) (I have often tipped 10k on top however) - this includes half a dozen visits this year (though the last couple I haven't mongered)
- I probably don't go out at 7:30 but by 8 many places are in full swing, so bigger choice.
- Never discussed ST/LT and NEVER had anything less than L/T.
- You're buying the girls a drink! Never done that, it isn't usual, and suspect all the other girls go 'cause they then think they have no chance - this isn't Thailand
- Lies - welcome to Asia ..... (Burma isn't as bad as most countries though)
- Emperor, I'm always swamped by ladies when I enter, don't sit down - go to the bar and let the ladies come .... (they usually present themselves in three's) - Lst time I was there with a girl (June this year) she told me there were 6 other ladies queueing up to 'go with me'
For reference my type is slim, 18-20, no baby - I am a pale white guy :) .... but I am also fun and like to have a laugh with the girls.

I visited the usual places of interests. The first advice is to make sure you have more than enough Baht, Yuan, and some local money on you before you cross the border. Otherwise, you would not be able to exchange and even if you could it would be at a very expensive rate. Keep in mind that if you wanted to travel between the cities during the rainy season, there would always be a chance of roadblocks due to mudslides or rockslides, be prepared and give yourself enough time.

There is never a regular transportation schedule for going between the cities and your trip would always take longer than you thought. For going between the cities, be up there at the motor center early in the morning or you could miss the whole day. The fares between the cities are 500 and 400 Baht. The bus fare is 320 Baht and it is safer and better but it would take two hours longer. It once took to go 89 Km in about three hours! I think the bus rode about 15 Km/hr on the way back to Tachiliek, I run ten Km in fifty-five minutes! … D**nd luggage.

If you got stuck in Kyiangton, you could stay at ‘Private Hotel’, that’s right, that is the name, at USD10 per night. The service was good and the staff was friendly and polite. It was a row of attached cottages each with a little private patio with a table and a couple of chairs facing a courtyard with a nice garden. They set the table in the evening and put a candle on and a burner to keep the mosquitoes away. There was hot shower and A/C was also available.

They would greed you with USD18 per night because it was a busy season or USD15 because it included breakfast, blah, blah. But the price is USD10/day and if you wanted breakfast the next morning it would be 2,000 Kyat. The hotel’s owner took pride of his knowledge of the English language and he liked it that he was busy with tourists from Austria and Germany. He was generous to offer any help you would need and give you the service or tell you were you could get it. I bet if you played your cards right he could help to find something in Kyiangton.

There is also another hotel about two hundred meters before Private Hotel on the opposite side run by Chinese. I think it was something like 500 Baht for a so/so room but they also had better rooms available and I didn’t inquire but I am sure there was room for negotiation. Don’t be foul by the local merchants in Kyiangton being friendly and polite. They are just warming you up for when they asked you to please bend over it wouldn’t be that painful. Just give them what you think is fair (in Kyat) and walk away. A tuk tuk ride in Kyiangton was 1,000 Kyat and you could be arriving at one motor center and must take off from another one.

The gurly locations at the border and the prices indicated on other earlier posts were correct. You could even try your luck and offer less. You would be surprised how often it may get accepted but you must be ready to take a chance and walk away if it didn’t. The selection was not that many and the quality was not good and a good service was a hit and miss but the good services were very good, always on the premises, always prepaid, and always covered. You could be up front with what you want but keep in mind the mentality of some these gurls. It may not be that she doesn’t want to, she just doesn’t know how but you could always find a way to enjoy yourself anyway. I personally don’t care for fake moans and noises. No tipping was required. I once tipped then not only the next time it wasn’t better, it was worse, … go figure.

I always felt safe and secured anywhere I was. Of course I wasn’t out on the street after eleven p.m. (except up north) and there were always barking dogs running everywhere and all time. I had a hard time to find decent food wherever I was and I ended up eating a lot of vegetable fried rice (just like in Thailand) and transportation was always a big hassle (except up north). There was never a problem passing through the checkpoints but there were too many of them and took time. Your traveling document would be safe anywhere they take it from you, not to worry. ….. Have more than enough exchanged money on you and make sure you have enough condoms of your choice with you.

Does anybody know what the current mongering situation is at Nagipali Beach (spelling ?). Are hotels GF and how about costs for ST.Ngapali Beach consists of beach Hotels and a few restaurants. There is no night life there compareable with Thailand or Cambodia. If you come alone there, you will stay alone. Take a GF with you, I am sure in Yangoon the offer to spend a few days on the beach will not remain unresponded.

where is a good place to change money in yangon? That US money had better be virgin new and uncreased by any wallet. Or you're headed for an early return out of country. Real aggravation, especially when you see what they are handing you in their currency. LOL. Mayflower travel agency 'under the bridge', to left of Panorama Hotel. Got 1000: 1. Last week. Hundreds only. Other best option: Jewelry sellers in the 'Scott Market. ' Keep asking them ALL until you find one that will give you 990 to the dollar. These rates are for Franklin's only.

Given I was in Thailand before going to Burma, stopped at a Thai bank and got some USD 100's. Explained what I wanted, no problem. These things were FRESH off the press. NEVER used. OK, cost me a little bit in exchange fees (cashed amex traveller's checks), but worth it in the long run.

Ok, thank you.

So, if there is a small crease(not fold) or a mark of some sort(pencil writing, or stamp), nobody will want it? Or, will they just offer a lower rate?

So, if there is a small crease(not fold) or a mark of some sort(pencil writing, or stamp), nobody will want it? Or, will they just offer a lower rate?My experience, marked bills are a no-no. No one will take. Creases, maybe...

Have read where you will be offered a high rate on the street, but when you go to do the deed, your bills are "unacceptable" and so a lower rate is given, while the changer tries to short change you by palming money, etc., etc. Don't know if the "old" scheme of giving you discontinued bills is still played.

Myself, I didn't want the hassle, so changed at the Central Hotel front desk. Perhaps not the best rate, but I was only changing $100. Shown into the "business center" (just a back room with 2 computers) so I could count in private.

If you're changing a lot, look for a place that has a bill counting machine; otherwise, you will be there for a LONG time.

Change in Hotels, obviously, if you don't mind losing a % here and there. Scott Market (a. K. A Bog-Yoke) Jewelry stores will safely cambio your dollars: shop among them for the best rate. No hassle whatsoever. Many shopkeepers, restaurants, travel agents, taxis, etc. Take dollars at rate of 1, 000: 1. But, you'll need to carry small bills, and keep them clean and new. NEW, CRISP, un-Marked. Central Hotel, BTW, not a bad place for low-budget guys. 'though Panorama and Asia Plaza (bigger rooms) better in this category of cheap hotel.

The night I stayed at the Crown, had a "business class" room. Big room, nice living room area with lcd tv, but can't say it was worth the $10 USD more :). Crown SEEMED a bit more modern than the Panorama. Both hotel's a/c's barely kept up with the climate.

whats the best way to get a room at panorama? online? call? show up?Show up. For some reason, though, Panorama gets full before Asia Plaza and Central Hotel, the other two budget/options similarly priced ($27-35) in the neighborhood. If you book a room at Panorama through a travel agent in Yangon, you can save a couple dollars a night. There's one on the same street, down the block from Panorama where you can get a voucher for the Panorama (brand new bills only). There's also a storefront Italian restaurant there that has incredibly good fresh homemade pasta. A shock! Good authentic Italian food in Asia made by Italians.

Do all these have joiner fees?No fees. Book a double or a deluxe or whatever they call it. $5 more and a much better room. Among those three hotels, if bringing in girls is your primary agenda, Asia Plaza is probably your best bet as less % of family type folk staying there.

whats the best way to get a room at panorama? online? call? show up?I used a travel agent in the FMI Centre, Rangoon. Panorama was fully booked for 1 out of the 3 nights I'd be in Rangoon, so stayed 1 night in Central. All the regular rooms at Central were booked, so stayed in a "business" room. That was beginning March.

Business room wasn't bad (around $40), had a nice sitting area with lcd tv. Nice if you're entertaining "at home". Panorama's rooms were basic hotel.

Point is, to be guaranteed a room, best to book ahead, to avoid disappointment and hassle.

I went to Yangoon but I did not stay at Panorama. I did go out out trolling and my discovery is this. Around Emperor and 369 Club there were some free lancers. They can go for $20. If allowed in the Hotel there may be a surcharge as well and ID check.

The service from the one I pick was like a bad nurse and I didn't have an STD. She kept pinching me to look for some discharge. The experience was non intimate. I could of made a fuss but I did not. Another night we saw police take a couple women away, apparently caught as sex workers.

The local guys in Burma are friendly and we were talking when it happened and they said that happens all the time. I asked what happens to the girls and they responded the go to jail and or forced labor. BTW I did notice around the disco street gays with their little Burmese companions and that scene seemed much more accessible. The traditions in Burma seemed oppressive for women. You don't see that many women going out. I will say that Burma is an amazing place that should be enjoyed but I suggest you don't follow your penis there.

There's nothing there that you won't find better, easier, and more comfortably in Thailand and other places. Yes, a few 'amazing' things to see, yet there is nothing in Yangon to keep you more than a couple days. Yes, you can find a poor girl to have basic sex with you at competitive rates. IF, that is what you live for, then go for it. But, quickly, that novelty will wear off. There is nil infra-structure (very limited internet) and no comparison to Sukhumvit. Otherwise, there's also the so-called cultural tourism. Be prepared for hot in Mandalay and Bagan and Yangon. By a ticket with flexible return, because a good chance you'll have quickly had enough and will want to come back early. The appeal is the novelty and that's really all. Even if you are the lowest budget bottom dweller, there are better places in Asia to pursue the hobby.

Hi Guys.

I'm off to Yangon in March and will be meeting up with a mate from home on the beach in Chaung Tha. I arrive at 8am and will head off to the beach almost straight away.

Do you advise I seek out some pussy in Yangon to take to the beach, or will I find some when I get there. Obviously, I don't want to travel to the beach and have no one to play with.

Any advise for a first timer in Yangon is appreciated.

Incidentally, will be at Livingstones in Bangkok for a couple of days on the way.

Thanks.

After an eventful night at the Pioneer in Yangon, I headed off on a 5 hour road trip to Chaung Tha beach. After reading the forum, I was under the impression that I would see no P4P action there. I need not have fretted as I found some.

I was with two other guys, both Burmese born brits one of whom spoke a little Burmese.

On the first night, we went to a bar called 'William' and got chatting to the man himself. I asked if there were any lady action and he pointed to a small chicken farm called '3 Star', right behind his own establishment.

I went shopping there, but didn't buy. A selection of 10, ranging from acceptable to good. No stunners. Prices: On site 4000 kyats cover charge plus 5000 kyats to the girl. So for 9000 kyats (just over US$10) you get one pop in one of the small wooden cubicles.

If you want to take her back to your hotel, pay the 4000 kyats cover, then 15, 000 kyats to the girl. (total US$21. 00). Negotiations started at 30, 000 kyats, so be prepared to bargain.

Our search for girls ran concurrently with our search for cold beer. Because there is no daytime electricity, very few bars have really cold beer. We wanted draft beer which is called si-beer locally (as in the letter C, apparently si is the Burmese word for drum.) and found one or two bars selling draft beer drawn through an ice box. Perfect at 600 kyats per half pint glass.

At one of the si-beer bars, a bar called 'TOP Chaung Tha' located at the bus terminus, we discovered two more P4P spots. One is the Karaoke bar right next door (upstairs) , where there is a mother / daughter offering to be had and both are lookers. My mate was quoted US$70 for one, but I'm sure with some hard negotiation it would be available for less. He didn't ask for the m / the package, but if the money were right, it's a banker!

Just across the bus terminal compound is a small brothel. (8 units in on the left hand side from the road. No signage). I popped my head in here to enquire and was offered a choice of 3 average lookers for 30, 000 kyats. Again didn't negotiate so probably available for less. One of the girls looked suspiciously young, so gave it a wide berth.

The fourth place we found, bar called 'Pyi Gyi Man Nai' right opposite Hotel Ambo, was more like the usual girly bars. A regular bar with young girls, mostly over 18. The girls don't tout for lady drinks, but some of the older ones are available for 'massage' in the room to the rear for a combined 4000 + 5000 Kyats as per 3-Star.

The P4P here is very different from Thailand and The Philippines as not all of the girls who work the bars are available. Regular waitresses will not necessarily go with a paying punter and can be very offended if asked.

To conclude, if you want sex at the beach in Burma. Head to Chaung Tha.

In the main street of Ngwe Saung, I went to a KTV with my Myanmar friends. Cuddly girls but they will not come to your hotel. Opposite the KTV there is an open bar with massage rooms at the back. 4-5 average looking girls. We took two of them to our resort. Massage followed by a good session. The girl left at 5 am. 40, 000 Ky.

Can you change euros or thai bahts at a good rate in Yangon?Possible everywhere in Yangon to change Euro or Baht. I changed on black market like every time. Good place for eating is a restaurant near "Gamecity". Take taxi and drive to gamecity. Before there was the best Club called "IQ Club" easy for pick up a Lady. After figthing with to much dead people they closed it. From Gamecity you can easy walking to the side, where lights on. First there is a caraoke-Bar with ugly girl. Beer and eating is ok. Open from 22:00. 01:00. Maybe able for take there a Lady, but will expensive.

Walk the same Road until last Restaurant, called Rose Garden. About less 5 Minutes walking.

A good time is 22:00. 22:30 there I meet everyday my friends. Some Taxidriver, they go there after finished work. Very helpful for have good and trustful friends there.

Eating is very good, a grilled fish about 2000 Kyat and enough for 2-3 people. Every evening we drunk many beers. 1-2 liter Whisky and eat a lot. The bill was about 10. 000. 20. 000 Kyat (15-30$)

How hard is it to get a visa for Burma? (I am an American). Plan to travel from Thailand to Burma. How long does it take to get a visa? How much does the visa cost? Just plan to do some sightseeing in Burma. Will the police hassle us? Is it dangerous for foreigners? Plan to go to Bagan in central Burma and Ngapali, the beautiful beach resort on Burma's west coast.

MongerManiac you are my hero! Took your advice and headed to Chaungtha Beach and found it just as you said. Took a young girl from behind Williams 8000 kyat and popped another in the shop opposite Top bar at the bus station for 10000 kyat. It was so good I went back for another round a few days later. The cold beer at Top was also a good tip. Without your posting, I would have never known. Found no action in Mandalay.

Johnie. All the hotel / resort rates in Chaung Thar beach seems to be expensive.

Any moderate rate ($30. 50) hotel near the beach for mongering action. Can we take the girls to the resort?

I was in Rangoon about a year ago, liked it and contemplating of going again this February.

What if any changes which might affect a (monger) tourist, have taken place since?

Has internet access in Rangoon hotels improved?

What is the current on-the-street exchange rate?

I recommed to change your money after arriving in the airport. The rates now there better than on the street, Scott Market and all Money Changers and you can change back when you leave Myanmar. Thats new. I have been in Yangonn in December.

i visit yangon 4. 5 times a year and was there recently in the 3rd week of december 2011.

internet. definitely there is improvement in the quality of service though the speed remains slow. but it is changing for better. i could access gmail without any problem, thought yahoo and hotmail were restricted sites. but these sites too can be accessed by using "secured server". type in https://www.yahoo.com

taxis. as usual, very poor quality, though there are some better ones. parami taxi is good.

girls. well, i love the features of myanmar girls. they are beautiful, good skin, nice bottoms and are good in the bed. earlier, the ongoing rate used to 25. 45 usd, depending upon the place you pick them from. but now, it seems they have upped the rates and do not want to settle anything less than 60. 80 usd for the night. but then, these cuties are worth it@

other. i walked around the streets near traders hotel and found it to be safe.

i know couple of local guys who are well versed with mongering requirements. if anyone wants the contact please pm me and i will send across the details.

cheers!

Hi Guys,

I'm thinking of taking a trip to Myanmar in the summer and was looking through the posts. One thing that is confusing me greatly is the currency. I've seen prices for girls at 8, 000 kyat which according to xe. Com / ucc is around $1, 200. This seems crazy to me. Has the currency been revalued? Is the decimal in the wrong place or have I totally got things screwed up?

While I tend to think the latter, I can't seem to get my head round where I've gone wrong. Xe. Com gives $100 = 650 MMK (kyat). What am I doing wrong?

Any enlightenment would be gratefully received.

Confused of arabia.

ExpatcatBurma has a black market for currency exchange. The real rate is 770kyats / 1USD, as opposed to what you see on xe and other web sites, which is burmese government fantasy.

You can find out the real rate on.

I stayed at a slightly rundown resort (forget the name) almost opposite the bus station. Various standards of accommodation available and initial prices quoted were quite high. Managed to negotiate a reasonable room overlooking the beach front for no more that $25 including an OK breakfast. I didn't take any girls back to the room but I think it would be OK as the office is fairly remote from the room.

I paid 20 USD 5 years ago thru Peace House Travel, paid 23 USD 3 years ago thru Shan Yoma, and from last year to this year I stayed 3 times, paid 60-65 USD thru same agents, walk in probably same or a bit more expensive, don't know exactly how much because I tried walked in 2 times, both times was told full booked.

Central hotel is nearby, about the same category, paid 55 USD thru agents recently, girls also no problem getting in, bed a bit hard for me, so only stayed once, also Asia Plaza, another hotel nearby, in same category, don't know the recent price, paid only 25 USD 3 years ago, but I am sure price now match Panorama. Lobby and hallways very deserted, did not like this place.

Out of the 3 monger hotels right in center town, I still prefer Panorama. Book ahead, it's very full.

As stated in RTFF, Yangon is surely undergone a lot off changes, e. G. The famous Asia plaza hotel has closed its disco in the basement. Most of the independent massage centers are closed or those within hotel establishment have made into pure form I. E. No side activities by putting two mattresses in one curtained cubicle thus privacy is nonexistent and making you wear their shortpant [no nude allowed]. KTV has been always a rip off, too much time spent gaining a little unless you are really into singing and you are in a group of friends!

The only factor that keeps the scene moving has been a few discos and Bellboys in your hotel.

But the later option has a drawback that you play blind, you have to rely on him for what he deems as quality or considers beauty. Offcourse you can send back his wares after paying taxi money but most of time, it's you who is more in hurry due to paucity of time!

I did face one such eventuality when the young petite slim babe; brought in by the bellboy to my room for full night for 50k kyats started complaining about my size and refused to participate in the sexercise after some 30-40 min. I had to return her back to supplier after extracting a token penalty of 10k kyats due to the breach of contract [? ]! But for her psychology, she was a GFE material to start with. Her slim body topped with perkiness was alluring nevertheless!

Since I was left in lurch, I decided to visit emperor in Chinatown. But it was just about the time when Fashion show had ended. Since in the ensuing darkness and flashing lights I couldn't settle for anybody and the one selected through garland turned out to have mc on! Hence shifted to 369 across the road. One babe helped me to settle two FS girls for 60K at the cost of 10k + 1 free beer to my pocket!

Praj4
09-14-12, 02:31
In the first world countries of USD and EURO, the luxury of having two babes in under 100 USD for night in cosy comforts of your hotel room will appear impossible. That dream seems even remote in India due to archaic laws causing unnecessary distortions in supply demand. But surely I realized that dream during everyday of my stay in yangon!

But don't get fooled by the word full night. As typically babes will try to wiggle out of their obligations once you had your fill –once or twice, typically a game of 3 hrs and would want to taxi home! But normally I too relented since you too want to have good nite sleep as next day was full of meetings and also knowing that 2 different babes await me on the next day!

Even under 100 USD is a myth as once your brain is awash with dopamines and serotonins after hectic love making, you lose out on your hard bargained gains [ 60k kyats for 2 ] step by step by dolling out tips, taximoney and what not soon spilling over 100usd!

The source for babes is either discos or bellboys while in case of later with antecedent risks of not knowing what he deems as quality is to your taste or not. The tip to bellboy is 5k Kyats. (850kyats= 1 USD).

The babe; though ages under 23; can be a first time mother or would have suffered one abortion causing softness in boobs, you will never know that until she is in birthday suite! She will routinely lie to get into your pockets as you are trying to get into her pants! And once there chivalary demands that you keep to your obligations while she may not. The babe may refuse to DFK etc at first but as things get hotter, anything seems possible including ass fingering, DFK, CIM and occasionally BB but I didn't try the last option as being beyond my rulebook. The 35 micron condom doesnot interfere with my love feelings anyway! But changing condoms 6 times while alternating is taxing enough, however a few times since babes new each other allowed me rentry with just customary wiping away!

Just got back from a trip to Myanmar. Brought back girls from Emperor Club three nights.

Getting into Emperor seems to mean that you have one or two girls massaging you everywhere and putting their tongue down your throat. They seem to have pleasant attitude and some have reasonable looks. They will come to your room for 30k and probably stay all night.

The "fashion show" starts at 21:30. Some of those girls look really young (maybe down towards 18). I paid $100 for one of them. She was a little bit star fish experience and don't touch here and don't touch there. Also demanding regarding food etc. But she had the looks to back up her proud behavior. Also on the cdellphone a lot. Probably younger than the average, I have seldom seen such fine hairs, I don't think that could be faked by shaving. Might have been as young as 18 which she claimed.

Another one from the "fashion show" wanted 500k! Haha. Even the waiter found it stiff and let me give garlands for another one without paying.

It also mixes. One of the fashion show girls was sitting at the tables and I had to pay 70k for her. She performed well but left at 2am. But also a little proud and demanding.

One girl had really nice attitude and performance. Reasonable looks. (30k girl from the crowd among the tables) , due to misunderstanding at my hotel I had to bring her to a shady motel "summer motel" outside w. Yangon (15k / night)

Panorama charged $100 / double, Queens park around $50-60.

I did my research here before visiting Rangoon but made no detailed notes, figuring I'd log in and go to the reports that I had noted. Wrong. When I tried to log in I got a screen that said that this site is blocked. In fact, all the popular adult-content sites are blocked. So, make detailed notes before visiting Burma, or get a proxy server service before entering the country.

J. J ENTERTAINMENT CITY.

(4th Floor.) Mingalar Market Mingalar Taung Nyunt.

The best ST hotel is SUMMER MOTEL (near Shwedagon Pagoda) at 15, 000 kyat : aircon / tv / relatively clean / largish rooms. Do not confuse with Summer PALACE Hotel (which is MUCH more expensive)

Other decent pick-up joints where I have personally visited:

GTR Bar.

Dusit Inya Lake Hotel Compound.

37 Kabar Aye Pagoda Road.

DJ's Bar.

Dusit Inya Lake Hotel Compound.

37 Kabar Aye Pagoda Road.

Pioneer.

330. Ahlone Road. Dagon Township. Yangon.

J. J Entertainment City.

4th Flr. Set Yon Road. Mingalar Mon Market. Mingalar Taung Nyunt Tsp. Yangon.

Ph: 201899. Ext. 3487. 728203.

Go to JJ at about 8:30 for best choice.

Price is about 30, 000 to 50, 000 kyat depending on quality.

Enjoy bruddahs

BEST PLACE to change money is the Money Changer in the main lobby of CENTRAL HOTEL next to Traders Hotel.

They have a very reasonable fixed daily rate AND give BRAND NEW KYAT NOTES : in return they require brand new USD notes.

I also noted that the airport has excellent rates BUT am not sure if they charge commission etc.

-

One last "tip" : the best place to get an international call pre-paid SIM Card is at the Yangon International Airport Arrival Lounge after clearing Customs at the telephone rental booth. The daily rental charge is USD 2 (and a CASH USD 50 refundable deposit is also to be pre-paid) and while local call talktime is cheap & payable in Kyat, international calls are costly and are to be pre-paid in USD. Smart-phone SIM rental is $ 4 per day

The embassy is in Ampang, you go before noon, fill out the form and pay 110 MYR and pick up next afternoon. They don't ask you for air ticket normally (well, if you are from the so called progressive nations) , just bring 2 photos. Invitation letter, never heard of this.

The visa process is too easy, but you still can use travel agents if you are too lazy, they charge 30 MYR or more for service.

I went to Burma in Sept 2012 and wanted to post some general info. Hopefully it's still relevant. Personally, I did not like the country (I was only in the capital). The place is overpriced. Truthfully EVERYTHING should be cheaper there than Thailand but I believe the tourist strategy for the country is to openly only attract tourists with money (they quoted that they are following the same strategy as Bhutan).

I stayed at Thamadae. Disgusting hotel. Overpriced.

The girls are quite pretty and I think yet unspoilt. Cheap too I believe.

I just wanted to post some other hotels. These are not girl friendly but are cheaper than thamadae inn and worth consideration. They are all centrally located.

Cherry guest house. 095340623. I stayed here also.

Hotel Grand United. +95 1. 372257.

Sunflower hotel 951 240014.

Beautyland hotel ii. 951 240054.

Personally, I will stick to Thailand and PI for P4P. Lots more to do and cheaper with a well tested infrastructure

Personally, I will stick to Thailand and PI for P4P. Lots more to do and cheaper with a well tested infrastructureYou are absolutely correct.

The NGO's, in part due to MSM ginned up hysteria in the USA, have been able to repeatedly fabricate or at a minimum hugely exaggerate or distort statistics in regard to alleged "human tafficking", without challenge from media sources, basically painting nearly all of southeast asia as hunting grounds for depraved child molesters. USA Dept of State under Hillary Clinton has also adopted this view, putting the power, money, and prestige of the United States behind this effort.

The fact is if they had their way, they would shut down all fully consentual (provider 18 and over) adult transactions between local residents and short term foreign visitors, not just in Burma, but in all of southeast asia as well, meaning the only relationships that would be tolerated would essentially only occur between wealthy and elite foreign visitors or longer term expats engaged in what might be described as mistress or sponsored arrangements, as they are outside of normal law enforcement purview.

The Burmese have specifically made it clear they do not want to be the next Thailand, even if it delays their development for another 20 years.

Just back from Yangon, went to Emperor, JJ and Pioneer. Emperor and JJ is bit rundown but got most of the girls. Asking price from 40000 kyats overnight. 30000kyats is no longer available. Pioneer will ask for 50000 and up maybe due to the better environment. Most guys go to JJ because with 5000kyats enterance fee you entitled for 1 hour free massage and 1 free beer. Pioneer enterance fee is 7000kyats.

(total US$21.00).

Head to Chaung Tha.And to confirm, if anyone likes darker skinned SYT, I got a 18yr old and tall leggy 20yr old for overnight. 50k kyat or 56usd. No experience with BBBJ but totally innocent and without attitude, gave me three shots stayed from 11pm till 8am on average.

But the cost of hotel accomadation and the bothersome visa application process makes it not a better option for LT cf AC.

Got her at jj, tried bargaining at 30k but no takers and I couldn't be bothered to wait till closing time hoping to save myself 10k. Definately lots of gals will approach you, no need to pay for a KTV room.

I'm so cheap I didn't even buy themn drinks whilst interviewing them.

As regards to chaung tha beach, I couldn't and I think it has closed down the KTV brothels near the bus station, saw the top bar etc etc, but I found two shops near hotel ambo. Sure they are young gals, but prob a 4/10 if lucky and I was quoted 5k or something but the girl not to my taste so I don't even consider clarifying the prices

Just spent 3 days in Yangon. Stayed at Traders hotel. Girl friendly and no problem. The girl has to give her details when you go in- saw I was not alone taking girls back there.

Night 1. I went to emperor. Huge selection and I was early so went to karaoke room and girls were paraded in and out until I selected a couple. Decided to take them both back and they were good fun. 2 pops and stayed until 7. 00. Lovely to sleep with 2 girls LT with such great smooth skin. Price was 40000 each and I did not argue as I was pleased to have 2 girls all night for less than $100.

Night 2. Went to bar at Park Royal. Ok selection but they all quoted me $100 LT. They were less friendly than Emperor and the girl I took back was too starfish.

Night 3 . Went to Jj's. Good selection but not nearly as good as Emperor. The Emperor bar is smaller and I think better for selecting. They told me that if you pick a girl from the fashion show that the cost is $100. Picked a stunner from Mandalay and again 4500 but she tried for more. Back at hotel after a quickie. She started talking abut problems with mammasan and was on the phone a lot. She was not happy to be doing this work and I said to go. Sometimes I realise how I am exploiting a poor girl who really wold prefer to be back on the farm and not with an ageing foreigner.

So in conclusion. Easy to find a girl in Yangon but IMHO the best place of my Asia trip was Singapore for beautiful slim Vietnamese.

Looks like with all the NGO's and other outsider busybody groups butting in on Rangoon, it will only slow development further.

Interesting article from a few months back, not exactly a motivator for a Rangoon visit.

http://www.mizzima.com/edop/commentary/8524-burma-land-of-opportunity-or-living-hell.htmlYes the NGO busybodies have now made Time magazine. They must be happy. Is the party over before its even begun.

Reading articles saying HIV is 50%+ for sex workers? I certainly don't believe everything I read. But, .Which article?

Which article?Like many government and NGO sourced numbers, they simply make them up, with the MSM chorus (which I will include Wiki as part of) just keep repeating them over and over enough times that people just accept them.

From Wiki on Burma and HIV: this paragraph.

"In Yangon, there are over 100 brothels and up to 10, 000 sex workers, mostly of the Bamar ethnic group, with between 70 to 90% having a history of sexually transmitted infections and less than 25% having been tested for HIV. [15] An anecdotal study found that nearly half of sex workers in Yangon have HIV / AIDS. [15]"

Yet following the "half of sex workers" footnote leads nowhere except to a web site pertaining to an NGO based in Atlanta that just ceased operations, and has no mention of this "study" nor any other info beyond offering vague references to data kept at an archives in Atlanta.

The Time article I referred to in another post says Thailand has a higher (general population) overall rate than Burma, and we also know the vast bulk of HIV cases involved gay men and / or IV drugs users, the first category always being played down by the MSM where ever they can.

Common sense tells us HIV rates are probably high in Burma for sex workers, but if any NGO had a valid statistical analysis, odds are high they would not publish this data, because they might fall below the hysterical numbers they would want to keep their funding going forward.

In the United States for example, for the FBI to arrive at their purported "[CodeWord908] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord908)" statistics they make the absurd (and condescending) assumption that any woman arriving from Asia who withing 6 months is working in the AMP business, by definition HAS to have been "trafficked" into the country against her will, and later to gin up the stats even more developing a concept of economic coercion and the newer concept of "self trafficking". Two concepts that can pretty much mean anything.

That has changed since. I am accessing it in Bagan as I type this.

Off to Rangoon tomorrow. Trying to find a decent GF hotel.

No action here on in Mandalay so far.

So, without underestimating some real facts, it is another fact that all thos eguys need to keep their "product" well and running.

The "self trafficking" is quite a unique definition.

Will this apply to the mercenaries, security forces, contractors working for the (USA) government ins ome risky areas?

And will this apply to expatriates seeling their skills and capacities to work abroad for long time for USA based corporates needing reps in many countries?

All these guys are self-trafficking for the sake of money and ready to leave behind relatives.

all these guys are self-trafficking for the sake of money and ready to leave behind relatives.

the term "self trafficked" was invented by necessity (as it was obvious to most) that in the case of (18 or over) adult providers, many were in fact giving full consent and therefore could not be construed as victims of "trafficking". so the ngos and lawmakers in effect claimed any alleged consent was often negated by some outside forces and therefore invalid, thus allowing a full scale attack against even (alleged fully consentual) ) normal adult to adult p4p transactions.

below are some definitions referred to by cosa (an ngo). under these all expansive definitions which were originally intended to go after child molesters, at this point (as one example) nearly every isaan (18 and over) bar girl working in bangkok (lets say under "cultural or familial obligations" or a result of "social forces") would be a victim of [CodeWord908] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord908), and thus for example a uk resident or citizen involved with one of these bar girls (given the long reach jurisdiction uk now claims for "trafficking" violations or interaction with such parties), could in theory be prosecuted back in his home country.

"[CodeWord908] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord908)" is just the latest (of a long list) of invented or extremely exaggerated "scourges", and the stats will never be questioned by the msm, so expect 10 to 20 more years of the hysteria before people start to notice the numbers don't make any sense. one of many examples of past hysterias is the claim in the us that "1 in 4 college women" are raped, (alternatively at times stated as "1 in 4 college women are victims of [CodeWord123] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord123) or attempted [CodeWord123] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord123)"), that has now survived 25 years and to this day is still repeated by major broadcast networks, yet had no basis in reality in the first place (ms magazine modifying the original koss study) and in fact most of the "victims" themselves told the researchers they were not in fact raped (only 27% confirming they were raped when asked to affirm), yet the researchers insisted that any college woman taking a single drink of alcohol could never give consent and therefore must be classified as being raped even though "she didn't know it", thus an entire cottage industry was created out of thin air by researchers making absurd assumptions. this is exactly the type of methodology being used in the current "[CodeWord908] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord908)" claims.

from the ngo

"trafficked: when a person has been moved on to another for the purpose of sexual exploitation, labor, or slavery. note that this is distinct from kidnapped; trafficked individuals are aware that they are being moved, though they may be compelled to do so by force and / or cultural or familial obligation. these individuals are often deceived as to their final destination and / or the work awaiting them there.

trafficked due to addiction: a child or children trafficked by their family due to debt, greed, drugs, and / or alcoholism.

trafficking: the trade of human beings for the purpose of sexual exploitation, labor, or slavery. the us department of state defines trafficking in their annual tip (trafficking in persons) report as an 'umbrella term for activities involved when one person obtains or holds another person in compelled service. ' please see the palermo protocol for a more detailed definition of this term. this includes, but is not limited to, the following major forms of [CodeWord908] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord908):

labor trafficking: an individual, frequently a child, who has been trafficked for the purpose of labor, e. g. farming, construction, service work, etc.

self trafficking: an individual, frequently a child or young woman, who 'willingly' enters into a trafficking ring in hopes of bettering his or her life. social forces and mental abuse are usually factors behind this choice.

sex trafficking: an individual, frequently a child or young woman, who has been trafficked for sexual purposes."

I know the requirements for visas may vary for travelers depending on their home country. But can anyone post a concrete report on what's necessary for let's say. A western traveler? (american, english, french, austrailain.)

There's a lot of conflicting reports I read on google. Some say that you can get a visa on arrival without preparing anything. Others say it's a ***** trying to get one.

Thanks to all those that can help.Visa requirements do differ from country to country. At times some countries in SEA don't ask for a visa from other SEA countries but have requirements for others. You cannot bunch western countries together as they are from different continents. I recall that Argentina did not have any requirements for Americans till USA imposed a fee for Argentinians to USA. Argentina retaliated and imposed visa requiremenst for USA citizens. I usualluy call the embassey of the country I am visiting and get the details rather than relay on some independent sites. Some countries have websites too that have the information.

Just back from Burma.

I got my visa at the embassy in Vientiane, Laos. Simple and straightforward.

From what I was told.

1. Visa on arrival is for business visa only.

2. Tourist visa can be obtained from any embassy abroad and take 3 days normally. Same day visa is possible (I was issued in 3 hours) when you can prove you are leaving the next day.

3. The online visa application site is in "test" mode and has been in that state for more than a year now.

Here's a link detailing the process in Bangkok. Its similar in other countries.

http://leaveyourdailyhell.com/2012/02/06/myanmar-visa-bangkok-thailand/

BTW. ATMs have now sprung up in Burma. You can use your visa / mastercard to get cash. At decent rates too.

The reference to the "CDMA-800 phone system" in the link is worth while paying attention to.

It means that Myanmar, does not use the universal GSM phone system and you'd need a CDMA type phone, as used in parts of the US.

If you are from the US and have a CDMA phone, you still need to check if it works in the 800MHz freuency band.

Good luck

Good luck3G phones with standard UMTS bands should work. While I was in Yangon last month, my cousin lent me her spare SIM card. They were skeptical that it'd work, stating something about CDMA. My smartphone is Samsung Galaxy SII (T-Mobile USA version: T989, with HSPA+/UMTS Quad-band : 850/1700/1900/2100MHz; GSM Quad-band: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz). It registered the SIM Card with no issue. I was able to make & receive calls and send / receive text messages. There was no data plan on it, so I didn't get to check that part out, but there were enough free WiFi hotspots such that it didn't seem necessary to access 3G data. I got cell signals in Yangon, Bagan, Mandalay, and Inle Lake.

I did see my friends and relatives use cellular data in restaurants and pagodas to check-in & post to Facebook (with iPhones & Samsung phones) , so if you purchased proper modern SIM cards, there shouldn't be any issues.

SeekoThe CDMA-800 MHz system will initially be used, but in regions and states that do not have such facilities, WCDMA 3G SIM cards will also be sold at 1, 500 kyat, said the broadcast.

Never heard of 800 Mhz. Also Verizon (a carrier) in USA uses CDMA technology which doesn't use SIM cards. No other carrier in USA uses CDMA technology. The bands are GSM 850/900/1800/1900 & 3G / HSDPA 900/1900/2100. If a 3G SIM card works, use it! Your phone must be able to handle the MHz and be unlocked.

3G phones with standard UMTS bands should work. .Good to hear that Seeko.

It means that nowdays there is a GSM network in place beside the original CDMA network, just like in the US.

While GSM and CDMA are totally technically incompatible, quite possibly, you can buy cell phones which work in both worlds.

Was in Yangon for a week recently, here is what I found:

SIM card: driver took me to a street in " little India" that had a row of 8 mobile phone shops. First six were sold out of SIM cards, got one at 7th store for $20. Not sure how many minutes, but it lasted the whole time. Note international SMSs I sent were never received.

CASH: exchange rate was 940 per USD. Rate at airport before clearing customs was 938 for $50 & $100 bills. 935 for smaller bills. Rate was 2 kyat higher just outside customs, next to duty free shop. Rate in town at money changer about the same. I'd suggest just changing at the airport.

The visa on arrival is strictly for business visas only. And you need paperwork for all of that. A tourist visa can still be obtained either at your nearest myanmar embassy, or if through an agent if you live in a country that has them. I'm from the US and I live in saigon, so I had an agent take care of it for me since I couldn't make time to go to the embassy. I had it rushed. 2 days, and it cost me 110 USD. But if you do it your self it will probably cost half as much. Also, the agencies that I found online wanted 7-12 days to process your application. But the embassys usually take 3 or less from what I understand.

Before clearing customs, the exchange rate was 940, after customs it was 945. IN TOWN, on sule road near the huge golden stupa, there are some people offering 1000 exchange rate. I wish I would have waited to exchange money. I haven't tried them out yet, but I believe it's the real deal.

I'm staying at okinawa guest house. I wouldn't recommend it to you guys because it's not the cleanest, or nicest place. But it's cheap and I didn't feel like looking around. I'm more of the backpacker type. 15$ for a very small box with a fan. It's definitely girl friendly because I took one home last night from JJ's

So far I've only been to emporor, JJ's, and the places in the Asia Entertainment buidling (across from JJ's). There's always a guy downstairs that speaks english to guide you up to the club. He makes you feel welcome.

At Emporor, get there about 945 or 10. That's when people start coming in and it starts getting full. Plenty of ladies walking around looking for business. The fashion show girls are 100$. The girls roaming around can be had for 40K. The only thing the fashion show girls got going for them is their lighter skin, light brown hair, and sometimes young appearance. You can get a nice young girl walking around with probably a much better attitude for a better price.

At the 7th and 8th floor of Asia Entertainment, the 7th floor has the same deal. Only when I went there on a Monday night, there were only some fashion show girls. No roamers. Utterly boring. However, the show girls can be had for 85$. If you go upstairs to the disco, where you'll find many more young locals dancing, there's freelance girls that can be had for 35K. Not sure if they speak much english. I didn't try any of them.

The best place out of all of them is JJ's thus far in my opinion. Tons of women walking around smiling at you, eager to get acquainted. I got a 19 year old from mandalay. Nice body and skin. She asked 50K, I countered with 40 for all night because I really wasn't trying to get a girl that night. I'm not fat and old, so she accepted.

She was a little bit reluctant at first when it came to doing the deed. She tried to keep me from sucking her nipples or kissing her. But I could tell she enjoyed it. I guess she just didn't WANT to enjoy it. I started eating her pussy and this is when she opened up. She was spreading her lips nice and wide for me so I could get my tongue all over her clit. She came hard. Then I got her to suck my cock and she was much more into it. After a nice pounding, I let her go. It wasn't my intention to keep her all night anyway. I don't think she would have stolen anything from them, but I didn't want to chance it. So I told her it was cool if she went home. Before she left, she gave me her number just in case I wanted to find a better hotel. Haha. There was some that she knew of for a reasonable price. I'll try it out when I get back.

I'm going to Chaungtha beach tomorrow. I'll let you gents know how it turns out.

The girls are semi-enslaved, run by mamasans who set the price and take 50. Only lowers price if mamsan agrees doesn't matter who you are. You'd have to be a dirtbag or a hindu (or maybe both if you are staying in a $15 dump) to try to undercut the price on these girls. At emperor, I saw ONE woman who looked to be setting up a small number of girls with potential clients. But that was it. Amongst the mass of women in the room and other places I checked out, I didn't get the vibe you were talking about. If I at least FELT that these girls were somewhat forced to do what they do, I would acknowledge it. But I didn't get that feeling from the one experience I mentioned. Anyways, my girl left with 40k kyat for short time which is a pretty deal. She even broke down to me about how many clients she sees per week, how much makes, showed me pics of her rather nice apartment. And I don't think she had any reason to lie to me. Then she gave me her number and tells me she knows some better hotels and I should call her when I get back from the beach.

So if you feel I mistreated, swindled, cheated, or took advantage of her, then by all means, please come to Myanmar, and help support these girls in your own way.

Have a good time gents.

I too obtained my tourist visa directly from the Myanmar Embassy, it was done overnight for about $15. Painless.

But on arrival in Yangon just before immigration is a large new sign in English indicating "Visa On Arrival" with prices for tourist visas quoted and a list of first world countries' passports that are acceptable (US, UK, AUS, ect). My tour guide also told me that next time I can't just get VOA. But if your first trip And you can easily get to an embassy, might as well do that, otherwise I'm pretty sure they mean VOA.

Regarding cash- personally, I'd just get the cash in nice new bills from the airport. Maybe you could get 4% more by walking around dripping sweat haggling in the heat.

I visited Emperors on my recent trip to Yangon and was really impressed with the vast number of girls, mostly under 30, many 18-21 years old. When I say vast I mean like 75. 100 at 8:00 pm on a Wednesday. In some ways it reminded me of The old days at Martinis in Cambodia. Lots of young naive girls hoping to bring home some money. Of course the price has changed and today's $40 was only $5-10 in yesteryear Cambodia.

I really enjoyed my evenings there due to the abundance of sweet young things, many warm and honest. The one thing that sucks there is the light. It is like trying to scope out chicks in a movie theater once the show has started. Very difficult to see them in a bar lighted only by a few black lights.

But there is a solution: the private room. Rather than paying the 5000 kyat entrance fee ($5) ask for a private room for 15000, only $15. You can have 4 mates in there, it is brightly lighted, and the girls cue up outside for a chance to be picked to sit with you. There is KTV and you get the room for 3+ hours. Highly recommended, if a bit more expensive. Leave with a girl anytime, no extra fees to the bar.

In Yangon they run a disco at the Park Royal Hotel. It's located in the basement. You can enter either via the front door or a separate entrance on the right hand side of the hotel (where all the taxis are). Entry costs 12,000 kyats (maybe free if you stay at the hotel). It runs from 7pm to about 1am. Lots of girls there who approach you, keen for business. They speak English, some better, some worse. Cost $US100 for an hour. One young woman was put out I woundn't hire her mate as well and left as soon as the deed was done. Another woman about 40 was just delightful.

Are you sure only for business visa? See this:

http://www.myanmarvisa.com/index.htm.

I'm making my first trip sometime in July and had planned on using this on-line service and they process both tourist and biz visas.Traveler,

Just to be sure I would get the visa before you arrive they keep changing the restriction on VOA, I always go to the Myanmar embassy in Bangkok or go travel agent in Bangkok is only about 25 USD take 3 day.

Apologies for the staccato style but fat fingers and an IPhone make it a pain in the ass to post so will keep brief.

Day 1.

Warm up drinks at 1-1 happy hour in Traders, then food across the street at Takafuji (local, good and cheap) then off to Emperor's. Got there at 10, ok selection but be warned closes at 11, so earlier the better. Got talking to a girl at the bar, think Shen. 20 (aren't they all) , English limited but fun and playful. Wanted 50k but easy to bargain to 40k maybe lower possible. Deal was for all night. Big mistake I made was accepting local condoms from waiters. Back to Clover City Plus (Gf just need registration). In room Shan was good, great body, fun, shower together, good BBBJ and ar. Problem were the condoms. Much to small. I'm European average and not hung like a mule but they barely stretched half way down. After trying 3 finally got the 4th on fat enough but after 5 minutes the condom came off inside her. So gave up and good CIM. Day 1 good if not for condom so really meh.

Day 2.

Traders, Takafuji, and then taxi to JJ Entertainment Centre. Went to the other one called Lucky as Asia building was dead at 10. Some local guys offered for me to join them at the Disco on the top floor. Went to have a look but less than half full and mostly local guys. Not sure how easy for a foreigner as the girls looked like non wg. Couple of beers with the local boys, made my excuses and headed to fashion show on 4th floor, I think. 3k entrance with one free beer. Met a girl, seemed genuine,

Bargained down to 30k, so after some drinks went with her downstairs. Told the taxi driver the hotel and he then "pretended" not to understand and took us to a short time hotel instead. Wanted another 3k to drive to the correct hotel. After 5 minutes heated debate got out and found another taxi. Pure ripoff. Worse followed. Got the girl back to the hotel and as she was getting undressed, she got a call and told me she had to go in 30 minutes. Over night to micro time not even short time. Told her to get dressed and leave. Definitely the bad.

Pre drinks in Koscan 19th Street. Cheap 800 cocktails, not potent but ok and the BBQ stalls outside are good and cheap. At about 8. 30 to Zero zone opposite Emperor. Rooftop bar with fashion show. Met some of the models in the lift. 2 nice one very arrogant. Fashion show just that. Weird. You buy a girl a garland for 5k and then she sits with you for 5 minutes. No chance of take away and then they leave for the next venue. Why waste money on the flowers? Maybe for locals it's an (expensive) investment. At about 10 Emperors, girls.

Still good looking but no connection. About to leave when I saw the arrogant model from before working the tables. Confirmed with the waiter that she was available for standard 50k. Didn't take up the offer but exchanged a knowing glance with her. She embarrassed, me trying not to smirk. On to Lucky again. Straight to fashion show. Got talking to two girls and was weighing these up when I kept getting hit gently on the back of the head with paper balls. Looked back and got a wave from a beautiful Burmese Indian girl. Excused myself and went to say Hi. She was on a table with a Korean guy and 3 other girls. Asked the Korean guy if I could join them. Long story short had a great time.

The Korean guy was really nice guy and restored my faith in Koreans as the others I met in Angeles Phil were frankly Assholes. Rude, arrogant dicks. Lots of drinks, chatting and dancing after the fashion show. The girl was beautiful and made all the right signs, so after saying my farewells to the Korean and his coterie, headed back to the hotel. Great gf sex at night and in the morning and then at about 10, she went on her way for 40k. Maybe not beautiful but a really fun night with a happy ending.

Freelance? You're joking right? The girls are semi-enslaved, run by mamasans who set the price and take 50. Only lowers price if mamsan agrees doesn't matter who you are. You'd have to be a dirtbag or a hindu (or maybe both if you are staying in a $15 dump) to try to undercut the price on these girls. The concept of tipping them and giving cabfare evidently would never occur to you.Dirt bag or a hindu? You really are a hole. In one.

What is the latest on getting cash once one is already in the country of Burma? I plan to bring plenty of 100s, but need a back-up plan. I've read elsewhere that is is now possible to get cash advances on one's VISA credit card. Debit card service anywhere? I don't care if there are fees, in this case. Any news?

Thanks

had been to yangon last week.

here are few updates:

atm is available at the airport and at selected shopping malls.

high speed internet now available in most of the hotels and coffee shops.

sim card / cell phone is still a big problem for the tourists. they charge usd 10 as rent per day for the use of sim card. you need to top it up with extra credit to make calls. surprisingly international roaming on my phone was working.

some good quality taxis now available at the airport and also in the city.

there is a taxi counter just after the duty free shop. checked the price. its 5000 khats for the downtown (traders, park royal, etc)

currently 1 usd = 970 khats.

lots of positive changes since my last visit. sounds really good.

best part is that the duty free shop at yangon airport is after the custom clearance. you can buy as many bottles as you want. they just have alcohol and cigs.

cheers!

October 14th 2013:

Myanmar was investigating Tuesday a suspected bomb blast at a luxury Yangon hotel that wounded a US woman, the latest in a series of explosions in the former military-ruled nation.

Authorities said the recent incidents could be aimed at derailing the country's pro-democratic reforms as it prepares to host a major regional sporting event and take the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The injured American was taken to hospital with wounds to her thigh and her hand after the blast ripped through a guest room at the Traders Hotel in central Yangon late on Monday, police said.

"We assume that it was a bomb blast but we are still trying to find out more information," a police official at the scene who did not want to be named told AFP.

Military officials and soldiers with sniffer dogs were seen at the hotel while shattered glass covered the road outside.

The hotel, part of the Shangri-La group, is located in the heart of Myanmar's commercial hub. It is popular with foreign tourists and visiting business people.

The incident followed a series of earlier bomb blasts but it is not clear who is behind them.

A man and a woman were killed and another person injured in an explosion Friday at a guesthouse in the town of Taunggu, about 65 kilometers (40 miles) from the capital Naypyidaw, police said.

Two other devices exploded in Yangon on Sunday. One at a bus stop and another under a truck, which wounded two teenagers, according to authorities.

Two more makeshift devices were found in the cities of Yangon and Mandalay on Monday.

"We cannot say who is responsible for these acts," said Police Lieutenant General Min Aung of the Myanmar Police Force's intelligence and security department.

"We're still investigating. The system they used is the same in all the cases. We think an organization or a person planted them all," he told AFP by telephone from Naypyidaw on Monday, speaking before the blast at the Traders Hotel.

Bomb blasts were relatively common under the former junta, which usually blamed the explosions on armed exile groups or ethnic rebels.

Three bombs rocked a park in Yangon in April 2010 as thousands of revelers celebrated an annual water festival, leaving 10 people dead and dozens wounded.

But such explosions had become rare under a new quasi-civilian government which took power in 2011 promising political reforms and efforts to end long-running ethnic insurgencies.

Presidential spokesman Ye Htut said the recent bombs were intended to spread fear.

"I think that someone or some organization asked some people to explode the bombs," he told Radio Free Asia's Myanmar Service, saying they had done it "with the intention of making people worried and scared".

"I think that the explosions may have been timed to coincide with Myanmar becoming the chair of ASEAN and getting ready to host the Southeast Asian Games, to make the international community misunderstand the situation of stability and peace in Myanmar," said Ye Htut.

Myanmar last week officially assumed the chairmanship of the ASEAN regional bloc for 2014. In December it will welcome athletes and sports fans to Naypyidaw for the Southeast Asian Games.

In a message posted on its official Facebook page, the Yangon police appealed to people to be vigilant for any suspicious objects at railway stations, bus stops and other public places.

"We also urge people to cooperate to find those causing unrest and casualties with explosions," it said.

President Thein Sein's reformist government has reached tentative peace deals with the major ethnic minority rebel groups in the country, which has been wracked by civil wars since independence from Britain in 1948.

But the nation has been hit by several outbreaks of Buddhist-Muslim religious violence since June 2012 that have left about 250 people dead and more than 140, 000 homeless, mostly Muslims.

Hey all,

Taking a trip to Burma next week and I was hoping for some advice. Basically I imagine the cities are transforming by the day as the country is opening up and I've read the forum but was wondering if it is basically updated or obsolete? Are the prices still around the same at places like Emperor Club in Yangon? Are there any new places?

Anywhere to get action in Mandalay? Bagan? Would really appreciate people's input. Thanks!

I am staying at the Parkroyal in 2 weeks and wanted to know how good the club in the hotel is. Some sites say that the club is full of women. Is there a better place?

Is it really $50 for the night? Any limitations with available acronyms?

Any help will be much appreciated.

He said that mostly foreign business people stay there and they charge it to their company accounts. The girls there band together and are now spoiled as business folks just pay the money. I read that a girl started dressing after one shot and asked for $100. 00. Try other places and do not pay more than 40k for the whole night.

I really appreciate it.It is difficult to get helpful information on mongering in Myanmar, however, I suspect that the longer the country remains opened to the outside world the more intel will become available. Surely this country has an amazing potential for our hobby. I will be coming to Myanmar in December and January, and I am really looking forward to it. Here is a link that is relative recent and you may find useful in Yangon. Please, share your experiences with the forum. I certainly will.

Surely this country has an amazing potential for our hobby. This blog a newcomer experience where the novelty hasn't worn off. Amazing potential? Yeah, up to about 3 years ago. All the girls have cellphones now, fully exposed to foreigners, prices up, mass market now, with the common dreks showing up. Cost for value factor is over too and everybody in this country has money signs in their eyes. Was inevitable this would happen, yet infrastructure, comforts way behind Thailand, Philippines, Jakarta and all the other sex tourist destination.

Can anyone in the know comment on the bombings this past October, and whether tourists areas are safe again. The Fed Gov has a travel advisory to Myanmar, and Kayak won't sell airplane tickets to go there. Have things gotten worse?

I was hoping to visit Myanmar in Feb. Being as it is recently opening to the world, it had become the hip place to go this past year. Lots of great things to see. It sounds like the punting scene is degenerating quickly, but there are other good destinations closeby for layovers.

Girls in Myanmar are all the same. No quality management from the management. If you are lucky, you can get a nice fuck buddy for 30k kyats whole night. If you are not lucky like my friend last time, you have a star fish after paying 100USD &65288; but heard really pretty, just a starfish)

I fuck one girl for 40k kyats last time, harass me, want second fuck actively. Blow air into my ears, blablabla. Actually there was a 3p. Another girl sleep like dead fish and not happy on me after I make noisy fucking the another horny girl.

It depends. Money can never buy you quality in Yangon.

Good luck.

Hi Folks,

Going to Myanmar with the GF soon and curious if there's anyplace she and I could go for massage together? Ideally something like Annie's in Bangkok would be a rather nice find. Her New Year resolution is to be much more adventurous and has promised me that she's willing to do almost anything if we can find willing participants. Even if it's impossible to find an Annie's style place in Yangon, we would still enjoy getting even a normal massage together after a long day of wandering about.

Thanks!

I was here from Feb. 16 for 4 days. For our hobby, NOTHING. Bagan is a national protected archaeological site. No bars are allowed but all the restaurants serve booze, very cheap. Wasted about half a day's time trying to get internet and then try to stay connected. However, I did see 37 temples and pagodas in 3 days. If I am a Buddhist, I could have attained nirvana. Really looking forward to Yangon.

Hotel Asia Plaza is centrally located, but overpriced. For 150 USD per night you get a reasonably ok room with clean linen and a hard, large bed (a plus IMHO) , but with spots on the carpet, no minibar, old-fashioned tv set etc. You are allowed one guest for free. During your entire stay. This means that if you bring in a new girl later on in the evening or even another day, they charge you extra. I was charged 50 use extra to bring in my second girl. Whether this official policy or not I don't know, but they were certainly very stubborn about it. So find somewhere else to stay.

Hotel Chatrium is fancy and expensive. You can bring in girls, but you have to accompany them and sign a document for them in the reception.

-

Emperor is a disco. There are lots of girls. Perhaps 75-100. I got there at 7. 20 pm, and the place was empty. They pleaded with me to wait 20 minutes and promised there would be girls by then. And sure enough after about 15 minutes they started trickling in. There were a good few SYTs and the occasional spinner (by spinner I mean very slim SYTs, which I like). The choice was so great that it was overwhelming. The girls are pushy in a pleasant, flirtatious way. But their possessiveness can make it difficult to exercise your right to free choice. On the other hand other girls will hit on you while one girl is trying to lock you in.

I ended up with a true spinner SYT whom I found irresistible. 50 USD for an hour. Back in the room she was so, so, veering towards starfish. But then she warmed up to my DATY and clearly had a real orgasm. Delightful. During intercourse afterwards, when she discovered that I hadn't come, she got more proactive, trying very hard to make me come. Suddenly all positions were possible, a saliva-dripping finger on her anus was more than welcome (though not inside) etc. I tried to explain that I didn't actually want to come (I like to save myself to enhance my arousal and in order to be able to have unlimited numbers of women) , but she would have nothing of it. In the end she got her way, and I got my way, in a different way. Afterwards she wanted taxi money. I said I will pay for the taxi, but I am coming with you in it.

Back at the club we flirted a bit on and off, and it struck me how she truly was beautiful, the most attractive girl in the club to me. But in the end I chose another girl who was not so attractive, a bit wider over the hips, less pretty face (perhaps a 6. 5 by local standards, a 7. 5 by international standards). But she kept begging me, holding on to me, promising me the world. It seemed she really wanted to go. So we went. The sex was better, with more mutual input from the start. But afterwards she wanted to play a game on her phone, seemed like it was her ritual to wind down before sleep. She slept over, then left in the morning at about 7 am. I was hardly awake, so there was no morning romp. 40 USD plus tip.

Next night I went to JJ's, now called Diamond. This is a disco similar to Emperor, but more pure disco (Emperor has more couches). It is on the fourth floor in a block with 8-9 floors. There are various discos, KTVs, massages services etc. On the other floors, also in adjacent buildings. Across the street through a garage and up again on floors 9-10-11 is a short time hotel. USD 10 for three hours. The rooms are spartan, but clean, especially the linen is clean, which I really appreciate. Outside on the street there is a riotous scene. Drunk young guys, beggars, touts of all sorts. There are numerous boys in white shirts and ties trying to escort you to their club. The lifts get full, but you can also take the stairs. In spite of the raucous and slightly loud atmosphere, everyone is really friendly. Towards 3 am inside JJ's there were numerous guards in some kind of simple military-style uniforms. Perhaps just some kind of security, but they did look very military. They behaved strange. 7 or 8 of them would stand at different places on the dance floor. Totally immobile, just looking, I don't know for what. But people were not afraid of them. If you looked them in the eye they would give you a big smile. Upon leaving I stood a long time by the elevator and probably looked a bit sweaty after fucking and dancing. One of the military types who happened to be standing next to me got something out of his pocket, carefully unfolded it and gave it to me. It was a clean white napkin. Another big smile.

When I first entered JJ's I was quickly sat down and first one and then another couple of girls came up to me within two minutes. I really wanted to wait and look around, but I could neither get rid of nor resist the first of the girls. She spoke a bit of English (not very well, but trying very hard to communicate, which helps) and her looks were right up my alley. Just turned 20, 153 cm. 40! Kg. Cost 60 USD, of which she said 40 for mamasan and 20 for her (so tipping obviously expected if she does not misbehave). She explained that she and others would gladly go with me for 40 in her spare time without mamasan.

Her pussy was naturally almost hairless, just a touch of the softest down. But with big juicy labia. Man I could have happily sucked on them until I fell asleep. But she was not interested in my DATY although she didn't mind me doing it, and certainly not in giving me head. She just wanted to fuck, and when I finally managed to tear my hungry mouth away from here divine labia and entered her she clung and clung to me. We had very explicitly agreed on DFK, but after a bit she started avoiding it. I am pretty sure my breath was not bad. In any case, her beauty was on such a scale that it was worth it. Afterwards we went back to the club and she kept clinging to me. She didn't want to do anything too sexual in public, but she would discretely hold my hand, lean on me, rub against me for a moment, wander off and then turn up again. It was a pain because I couldn't move on to another girl, but at the same time it was loving and nice. And there were few other girls left, now getting closer to 3 am.

Myanmar is a strange place. Very many of the women (and occasionally the men) you see on the street wear a strange cream-coloured makeup on their cheeks (in the shape of a circle, a square, tears running from their eyes.). Many of the men wear skirts (sarongs) , like a sheet wrapped around their waste. It makes it feel exotic and a bit tribal. The cityscape is mostly low buildings, streets are rough. People are very friendly.

Girls in Myanmar are not as cheap as one might expect from the poverty in the country. Will be interesting to see how it evolves, there must millions in the villages waiting to come into town and make money. Please treat them nicely.

That's also why they walk with umbrellas and stick to the shade. Some Westerns want tans and some Asia women want to be fair skinned. The Sarong is a Longyi, you will see most people wearing them if you go to Nay Pyi Taw as it's a government town and all government staff are required to wear them.

No action so far in NPT, I've been to one KTV bar so far but it was separate rooms with Karaoke set-ups. You can get a girl but they just sit with you, no kissing or anything else. No take away's possible either. On Friday night I did find a couple of other bars further out of town so I'll try them in the coming weeks. They were next to some beauty parlours that were open late. These may, or may not, be knocking shops, I'll need to find out.

Please treat them nicely. It is difficult not to treat the Burmese nicely. Even though I found their food unappetizing and accommodation really poor value, the people themselves are golden. Great report Cucumber! Yangon should have its own thread-the Burma vs Laos thread heading seems somewhat outdated. It will indeed be interesting to see how Myanmar evolves.

I did bargain a bit, but to do it properly I would have had to walk away and cruise the club while the girl stewed and thought about lost profits. But I didn't have time for that.

My hunch is that if one stayed there for a good while and found a good provider, a real personal contact, perhaps someone operating in one of those club environments, saw a lot of working girls and who understood one's tastes well, one might be able to work out some sweeter deals with some very sweet ladies.

It is difficult not to treat the Burmese nicely. Even though I found their food unappetizing and accommodation really poor value, the people themselves are golden. Great report Cucumber! Yangon should have its own thread-the Burma vs Laos thread heading seems somewhat outdated. It will indeed be interesting to see how Myanmar evolves.I forgot to mention that point, but I agree, it is not somewhere one would go for culinary delights.

Are those the going prices now? 50 at Emperor and 60 at Diamond? And that's ST! Did you try to negotiate?

Last year I got it for 30 and 40 at those two places, for LT. + Taxi money.I read in another forum that the girls are charging USD $100. 00 in Park Royal and will not go down on price. He said that mostly foreign business people stay there and they charge it to their company accounts. The girls there band together and are now spoiled as business folks just pay the money. I read that a girl started dressing after one shot and asked for $100. 00. I would just stay away from there.

Just pay the poor things what they ask, give taxi money, and tip. Besides, the tradition is for girls to not be seen in company of foreigner / sex tourist in the light of day. The possible exception is with Chin people who've been well exposed to foreigners and speak English (albeit via Christian missionaries) , and you do sometimes come across them turning up in Yangon.

Those ARE the military! Nice guys, hah? They still rule the country. Yes, Burma is different indeed. The security is there for your protection. Really. Military moonlighting for the owner (their commanding officer) so what. The place was closed for a while (and not the first time) after stabbing. They don't want anyone else dead on the dance floor.
