Thanks Cactus J,

I am new here but i been in and out of Yangon so many time that I lost count. FYI, BME2 is closed due to a fire. However, you could always go to BME1 but the atmosphere is not so good.

It was real hot in Yangon as April is mid summer for Myanmar.

Panorama Hotel was where I stayed for sake of its convenient location. First night I was too tired to go out thus asked the bell boy if he can get me some good girl; of course the answer is Yes.

I had tapped the wrong buttons thus my earlier report went posted before I could finish it so here it goes as continuation of the previous one.

I asked bell boy at Panorama Hotel for good girls to spend the night; and I also asked for some choice to choose from. He said OK but I have to pay taxi fare for the girl I do not take. No problem for 2000 K and get the chance to choose. So, the bell boy used telephone in my room to call and about 30 minutes later 2 girls knocked on my door.

One was meaty and a bit short while the other skinny and look a bit older. I took the first one as I like one with smoother skin for which she has. I was asked to pay in advance for 20 USD by the girl I did not take who speaks some English. She said has to pay to Mamasan, not to the girl. The bell boy confirmed the same thing so I gave handed her 20 USD with taxi fare.

The girl I took speaks almost no English; only understanding very few words. So, no conversation; only what she was there for! The girl does so so job, but does not oppose to any of my request made in sign language.

Woke up next morning and she started to dress up so I stopped her for one more round of service. Gave her taxi fare + tip and let go.

The other day, I tried to look for girls in front of the cinema as bro Skaundeh suggested; found only 3 girls whom look like to be working girls. All of them carry either some lunch box or some sort of handbag, but none of them look attractive enough to be picked up. So, I passed and decided to wait for the night.

22:30 went into the basement club behind Asia Plaza hotel, 3000 K for entrance fee which includes one drink; either beer or soft drink. I walked around for one round before settling around the bar. Many girls there indeed; my estimation is no less than 40. Appearance varies, you can find some Burmese looking, Indian looking and Chinese looking ones there. Some have nice body line while some does not appeal to my eyes at all.

I smiled to one of the fairer skin long hair girl who dance and shake her body a lot; she speaks quite some English so we could have some conversation. She tried to have various part of her body rubbing against me to arouse; Umm it worked! So we started to talk business how much for LT and asking price was 50000 K. try bargain down and the best I could do was 40000 K (32 USD) for which I gave in and so we went.

She was 25 and quite professional in what she does, no objection on any request made. Better service than the previous girl so it was a satisfactory night to end up the trip.

All in all, Yangon is still good value for the money in my opinion. For some place, the price may not be that cheap but OK compares to what you get.

EDITOR'S NOTE: I certainly hope that the author or somebody else will post a link to this report in the Reports of Distinction thread. Please Click Here (http://www.internationalsexguide.info/forum/announcement-reportsofdistinction.php?) for more information.

Hi Raphael,

Most of the answers to your questions can already be found in this forum. GF hotels for those rates are a plenty. There's the Panorama Hotel, Olympic Hotel, MGM Hotel. You can book online here, or just use the website to check rates; http://www.lodgingmyanmar.com/

Price for LT overnight ... around 20,000 kyat (about $16 USD). But don't expect the girls to be like those in Thailand. Read some for of the reports here and you'll get an idea of what to expect. :)

Nope, it's not possible to find massage parlours like the ones in BKK. Mongering is an underground activity in Burma. It's all done very discreetly. People know it goes on but no one dares talk about it openly in public.

Yes, it's possible to bring a girl in to your hotel room during the day. Infact, the bell boy at your hotel can usually organise this for you. If you're staying at the Panorama, there are massage people under the overhead bridge who can organise this as well.

I've had Indian-Burmese mix girls a few times and they drive me nuts as well :D You can find them at the discos around Rangoon for example, The Emperor and The Palace. Again read the reports here to find out about others. BME2 I believe is still closed.

I've found taxi drivers taking you home from the discos tend to over charge by, say, 1000 or so kyat. This is less than a dollar so I don't bother arguing over it. In general, they're ok so nothing to worry about there.

Take US dollars with you in to Burma. Although Euros are accepted, USD willgive you greater felxibility.

Enjoy! :D

Raphael, the Panorama is about a 2 to 3 star hotel. It's basic and adequate, but nothing too special. The food from their reastaurant is very good, however, and breakfast is buffet style with a choice of western and asian food. I'm not sure what you mean with 'room with pillow'. All rooms have pillows ;)

And you told me a bout the people who make massage under the bridge, do they spek english and is it eay to reach them? They don't speak very good English so keep it really simple, like say to them "you have lady?". That, they'll understand. If not, then make a gesture of closing your right fist and tapping it with your left open hand a few times. This appears to be standard way of indicating that you want to bang a lady. (My Yizar does this in the morning when she asks whether I'd like to go another round with her :D ).

Last one quetion which is the best place to change currencies? The black market or bank? Believe it or not, you can't change foreign currencies in any banks in Burma. You'll need to go to money changers either at your hotel or at the market. The Panorama Hotel has reasonable rates, but also try Bogyoke Aung San market. I've found the the jewellery stalls at that market gives the best rates. The current exchange rate is around 1240 kyats to $1USD.

This is most probably Chaungtha beach. Do a google for it and you should be able to find more info. They're also trying to make Ngapali into a resort of some sort but it still needs lots of development. Setse is another popular beach for locals but its off the main tourist trail.

Unfortunately, rain is a problem in June so its not really beach weather this time of year.

You'll have a hard time finding someone unless you can pass off looking like a local. Remember, mongering is a discreet activity in Burma and everyone involved in the business tends to keep a low profile. The last thing they want is to be seen in public with a foreigner hand-in-hand.

I'll be in Yangon on Friday (tomorrow!), staying for 7 nights.

Does anyone know if I can exchange Thai Baht to Kyat there, and what the rate is? Otherwise I will need to exchange my Thai baht for a bunch of US Dollar notes in Bangkok today. I'd rather just take Baht and exchange it directly to Kyat instead of doing it via USD.

If anyone reading this is or will be over there then it would be good to meet up.

I've just subscribed to get the private messaging access, hopefully it will be activated very soon.

I can speak and understand the language, so it should be fun.

I would suggest you just change to USD at Bangkok and bring it down to Yangon. You may get better rate at the hotels or restorants in Yangon for USD. Don't change at the airport.

I have seen Thai baht exchanged at Yangon but not sure of the rates, you may get better rate at the border. Its better to change the USD when required than carrying huge sum of Kyat in your pocket.

Not sure about Rangoon but on the border the rate is around 35 kyat to 1 baht. But I'd strongly suggest taking USD to Myanmar. You wont have anything to worry about where as finding a money changer who'd buy Baht is a lot harder.

Have fun and look forward to your reports. :)

Hi there again,

I just got back from Yangon last week. Had a wonderful time (business and pleasure). It is good to be there again. I been travel back and forth for the last 2 years. Stayed at Grand Park Royal again. Not a bad place. 4 Star Hotel. The rate from travel agent is about US35 with breakfast for 2. Good value for money.

For those visiting Yangon the first time, this is where you should stay. Safe and secure enviroment (generally Yangon is a safe city. Ppl wears rolex and don't get robbed.) One of the few safe places around. If you stay at Grand Park, there is a Music Club at the basement. No cover charged for hotel guest. Look for Mr. Ricky, he is the Manager there. Nice and funny guy.

Since BME2 (another nite spot) has closed down, FYI, not openning again since they converting it to a swimming pool. Sigh. Sigh. Business at the Music Club has been good. Nice band and enviroment. Lots of girls to choose from but price might be high compared to outside. On going rate about 40, 000 kyats. Actually it is up to you. To bargain. BUT please do not spoil the on going market rate by paying too much. At most 50, 000 kyats. If service is good, give tips.

If you feel adventureous, you may go to Pioneer, at Yuzana Hotel, just opposite Grand Park. It is a local disco, with lots of teenager. But security wise, not like Grand Park. Just becareful while you enjoy.

Anyway, planning to travel there again in 3 weeks time. For those going soon, don't forget your umbrellas. Rainning daily.

i was in Yangon on business 2 weeks ago (23~26 May) and was staying in Traders Hotel. Usually i'll go for part time WL who is arranged by a close Burmese friend of mine. As he always (i travel to Yangon every year) ended up being the paymaster, i tried to do it myself this time. I headed to JJ karaoke with one of my customers and arrived there at 9.50pm, 10mins before the start of the fashion show. During the parade, one of the gals caught my attention but it turned out to be a mistake.

I didn't get her name but she's acceptable (i'd give her 7/10) in the looks department but was quite let down in the service. She'd give no BBBJ, and not even CBJ. Haihh....i only had one session with her as i was tired to death due to my daytime schedule. Damage was USD70 which i'd say is very expensive compare to what our bros here are paying.

In contrast to what most bros posted, i find MPs are not that hard to find. There are a few which i have been to, mostly driven by my friend as i can't speak Burmese nor remember those MP names. I'd normally settle at one of my usual MP which cost me 4000Kyt per session. I'll try to get the name and post it in the forum next time.

Sorry for the brief post as my usual mongering area is in Kuala Lumpur.

Cheers!

Damage was USD70 which i'd say is very expensive compare to what our bros here are paying. If the price is stated at the end, you have the power to set a more standard price. You should know what the standard price is before even getting out to these places.

If the price was stated beforehand, you shouldn't have accepted 70 USD, especially if she was just a 7/10. If you know a bit about the country, you'd know that is a lot of money to the locals. To some, it's a few months of labour.

You can get nice girls for 20,000 Kyat or less. I met a local guy at Pioneer last week who says JJ's is where you can get girls for 10,000 kyat, especially near closing time.

Guys, don't spoil the market by paying too much. 15,000 to 20,000 kyat is still a lot of money to them, and based on reports here that seems to be the standard price range.

Head Fukk,

Yeah, i realized i had overpaid her but bear in mind that she's not a WL (well at least in my view) but rather those chicks who stand on the parade during fashion hour. Am not sure if you've been to one of these shows but these gals are those who you can't 'buy' them out just like that. You'll face fierce competition from other mongers as they'll be cat walking and witnessed by those in the place.

I do understand WL can come at a very cheap price when it's close to closing hour. Those WLs would be desperate to at least grab their catch for the day.

I'm not trying to spoil the market as it doesn't logic to destroy my own 'hobby'!

ZZ

It's the girls who don't ask for or expect money who are not WLs. They go with you because they enjoy your company and just want to have some fun.

For 70 USD (almost 89,000 kyat) in Myanmar, I and most guys here would expect a girl who ranks at the top in all important categories, e.g. appearance, attitude and performance. But you rated her a 7/10 and not a great performer. It would be easier to justify if she was mind-blowing in every way. Even then, I would probably pay 40,000 absolute maximum if I came across such a rare gem. There was one I had last week who comes very close to fitting into such a category. She asked for 50,000 and I gave her 30,000.

A lesson here is never to accept the first offer, especially if it's way above the standard price. Don't be desperate. Play the game with your wits intact. So this would mean keeping the alcohol consumption well under control when you monger!

I met a girl at Pioneer last week and it turned out she works as a fashion model at Asia Plaza. She had a hot body, one of the best I came across that night. We went out to eat afterwards so I got a chance to chat with her. I don't know whether she is representative of most fashion models. But there was definitely a degree of mental instability.

I will provide more details of my trip when I post my report.

Zimzum, depending on the place, the fashion ladies can also be acquired for 20,000 kyat ... if you play your cards right. But you're right, in general they do ask for more for the perceived "extra interest" they attract, but still $70 is way too much. As a general rule, whatever they ask for, offer them half the amount and go from there.

The fashion ladies also earn money for the garlands they receive. I have a "fashion lady" friend who tells me she earns 50% of what punters pay for the garlands. As a result, they're not as desperate as the other girls around the clubs to go with a mongerer and can thus demand higher.

The reason why prices drop can drop to as low as 10,000 kyat around closing time is because many of the WG's who have mamasans pressure them into finding customers. Given that it costs the girl around 2000 kyat to get into these clubs, they (or their mamasans) need a return on their money or they'll be in the red.

Headfukk, please give us an update on the current scene there. :) I haven't been to Pioneer in ages and am considering that venue in a future visit. BTW, did you try the Emperor? It was closed when I was there just after the new year. Hope it's open again .. some gorgeous girls there!

Raphea, Mawlamyine is not near Kawthoung. There is a beach near Mawlamyine but it's 2 hour drive further south to Setse. There's been some developments there lately but again, it's not worth the journey there (an over night bus ride from Rangoon to Mawlamyine plus a 2 hours drive from there). Plus it's the rainy season so it's not really beach weather.

If she's not a WG, and this is purely business, then there's no reason why you couldn't take a Burmese lady out to dinner. But I wouldn't try anything kinky though ... most (decent) Burmese ladies would frown on the activities that we mongerers get up to! :D

Does anyone have a current email address for this hotel?

Have tried all email addresses supplied on ISG and even tried booking through a website and have had no replies back after 1 week (except for a travel agent who demanded full payment via credit card in advance, including 4% CC surcharge, with a rate higher than the hotel advertises).

I realise that calling or faxing might be the only solution, but would prefer email if possible to due my current location.

Thanks!

Many thanks.Refering to your questions to the Panorama Hotel:

1) There are no inroom safe boxes, however they do have them at the receiption.

2) As far as I can remember there are standard elctricity plugs (2 round pins). I am not sure about the voltage, I think its 220 V.

Alltogether as mentioned repeatedly here I can recommend the hotel!

Goferring, yes they do have Safety Deposit Boxes but just how safe they are, I'm not quite sure. They're located at the front counter at the reception desk which is always 'manned; 24/7 by the ladies at the reception.

Yes, the same as the ones used in Thailand.

I saw the same email address in post #197 and tried it, but have waited over a week with no reply.

Thought that it could have been out of date as the post was made in December 2006 (with the poster being there in November).

Have you recently tried this email, and do they accept bookings via it?

i want to thank the posters to this thread. i've been lurking for some time, and decided it was time to give back a little.

my first trip to myanmar was in march of last year. due, primarily, to what i read on this board, i'd planned a trip to cambodia, but decided that i had a couple of extra days and thought it might be fun to visit myanmar. i realize it's now ancient history, but i'll go ahead and post a summary anyway. this place isn't too heavily traveled, so i figure the more information the better. and, of course, it figured heavily in my decision to return last april.

after reading everything this board had on myanmar and yangon, i decided to go. last year there wasn't too much information in the web about the place. took gobs of research just to determine that you didn't have to buy fecs anymore, that the only way to get a visa with via the washington, d.c., embassy, etc. so, i downloaded the paperwork, fedexed off the passport and waited. visa showed up a little over 2 weeks later. phew.

flew to bangkok on eva, my fave airline. stayed overnight and caught the bangkok air daily to yangon. the plane touches down, taxis up to this dumpy little airport. walked down the stairs into the muggy afternoon. the arrival area was a very large room, air conditioned, rather dark and smelling of incense. neat. i was first in my passport line, so i figured i had it made. through the line and off to claim my luggage. we were the only plane in the airport at that time and it still took 45 minutes to offload the bags! arrgh.

thanks to this board, i knew what to expect after clearing customs. paid the $5 to the girl at the taxi stand and they stick me in a taxi with a driver and "interpreter." the guy was actually somebody from a "tour agency" (aren't they all) who kept flogging trips, etc. i was only gonna be there for 3 nights, so i begged off. nice guy, harmless. still have his card, i think.

finally arrived at traders hotel, which is one of the nicest ones in town, and has a great location. checked in, i'd booked a double, the man asked where the other person was. i said maybe she'd be along later. he just smiled.

so, after changing i headed down to get some money changed. i stopped at central hotel, as i'd heard about them here. changed $100, didn't get an especially good rate, but it was ok. at the time the going rate was around 1,000 kyat to the dollar. i felt like a moving target carrying all that money around, so i hot-footed it back to the hotel and stashed most of it in the safe.

i’d come to purchase some lacquerware for souvenirs, so i walked up to the bogyoke aung san market. wandered all over. got accosted 5- or 6-hundred times by guys wanting to change money. wish i’d have gone here, instead. next time.

finally, as dusk was beginning to fall, i found the lacquer ware lady, bought a sh*tload of the stuff and went back to the hotel. (the interior of the market has no electricity, so it gets dark in there quickly!) first mission accomplished.

now it was time for some fun. based on my lonely planet guide, i got my bearings and wandered off to shwedagon pagoda road. i can't remember the name of the place across from emperor, but it had a rooftop restaurant/bar. i headed over there just after dark. took the rickety elevator to the top, got a table and started sipping a cold beer. after a bit, heard a muslim call to prayer from some loudspeakers somewhere. weird in a buddhist country. after a beer or two the locals started wandering in. then all the girls with their little barbie doll suitcases started wandering in. i wasn’t sure what was going on until the fashion show started. this was my first one, although i'd certainly heard about them. i've seen a lot since then, but still don't really grasp the concept. a few of the locals bought sashes, garlands, etc., but all they seemed to get out of it was a 30-second visit from the girl.

anyway, the show finally ended, and none too soon. i don't think you can really die of boredom, but, if you can, these girls looked to have one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel! went downstairs and across the street to emperor, i think. memory is a bit fuzzy after a year.

approached all the guys hanging out in front of the elevators, who hustled me into one and up we went. the music is booming, the nearest waiter grabs me and is my self-appointed pimp for the rest of the evening. he can't wait to get me a girl, and i'm just trying to get my bearings and scope out the talent. he's sending girls over to my table, trying to be the interpreter and, in general, making a real nuisance of himself!

these two chicks kept trying to get me to take them both, but neither was that appealing. i tried to chat with them a bit, but the english skills in this joint are rather lacking (the kids on the street seem to have no problem, however!). now a cutie comes up. i look at her and smell a rat. i asked her age and she either said 16 or 17. i just about sh*t a brick. the last thing i need in this country is to be busted for **** girls. i immediately shooed her away.

during the course of the evening a young lady, about a 6 on the phord scale, sort of glommed onto me. she kept begging, literally, for me to take her. i finally took pity on her, we agreed on $20 (thanks to the board). getting ready to leave, the first two chicks come back, with mr. pimp in tow, and want to continue negotiations. too late. all three looked disappointed. that’s ok, i was going to be disappointed later, too.

time to leave, it’s around 11:00 and they lock the front door and start hustling all the people out the back. i was prepared for this, thanks to this board. down the back stairs, pile into a taxi with a bunch of the other girls, and off to the hotel.

traders was guest friendly then, and even more so now. took my date up to the room to get better acquainted. she’s small, a little on the dark side and very skinny. however, she had some really nice natural c cups, a pleasant surprise. anyway, after showers she plunks herself in front of the tv with no intention of doing anything else. :-(

after a bit, i start to persist. she finally looks at me and makes that sign where you hit your closed fist with an open palm. i’ve seen the same sign in japanese sign language, so i know it means “to f*ck” but i don’t think it’s very polite. i really have the urge to just kick her out, but i hate to do that here, because i don’t know if she’ll get into any trouble with the cops for being out late, or something like that. so, i just decide to play it out and see what happens. (the political situation has loosened up a lot since then).

i get to play a lot with the twins, daty, cfs, etc. as they say, all sex is good, but some is better than others. this was near the bottom of the scale. she was such a dud i didn’t even take any pix, which is unfortunate, as i could post them here as a definite avoid.

in the morning she wants to leave. i’m nice and polite; i try to get her to have some coffee or some breakfast, but no. i escort her to the hotel’s front door and watch her receding back. man, if they’re all gonna be like this, you can keep this place!

luckily, things were going to get much better.

After breakfast I started to hike around town taking pictures of everything that walked or crawled. Then it was time to go take in the Shwedagon Paya. I never wear shorts when I travel around SEA, as you look like a total dick. But, today I made an exception. Bad idea.

I show up at Shwedagon, find out that shorts are NOT allowed, but they’d be happy to let me borrow a longyi. Ummm, no. I’ll come back tomorrow. Bummer. So, it’s off to the zoo, which is another place I always try to visit when I’m in a new place. It gives a lot of insight into the locals, their outlook on animals, a glimpse into a new culture, etc. Spent the afternoon wandering around. It’s a nice place and I recommend it.

Since I missed the Shwedagon, after the zoo I rested a bit at the hotel, then wandered down the street to Sule Paya. Had a nice time there. Several monks buttonholed me and wanted to practice English. One wouldn’t quit, and asked me to meet him there the next day. I said OK. Spent the rest of the afternoon and early evening looking around that neighborhood.

Went into the Strand, just to see it. Really nice bar, but the whole place had a strange vibe. The cheapest entree on the restaurant menu was something like $30, and everything was a la carte. So, figure a nice dinner between $60 and $100 per person. Now I’d been wandering around for the last couple of days, interacting with people who earn a couple of dollars a day. These prices seemed to be bordering on the obscene. I’m the furthest thing from a Socialist, but the whole atmosphere smacked of a sort of British milord attitude, where you may HAVE to be in this crummy country, but you certainly don’t HAVE to associate with the unwashed riff-raff. The whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth, and I vacated after one circuit of the ground floor.

OK. I’d located Asia Plaza earlier in the day, so, after a quick clean-up I walked down. 3,000 kyat for men, 2,000 for ladies. Yakked with the waiter, got a seat and started looking around. A very nice looking young lady came up to me, stood there very demurely and smiled. Wanted to know if I wanted some company. Sure, sit down, have a drink. I like the working girls here, because they don’t dress like hookers. She was wearing a stretchy white top and longyi.

We hit it off, talked and giggled. We discuss price. She starts at $50/night. I think about countering with the standard $20, but I figure, with this one, I’d lose her for sure. Plus, I had already had experience with the $20 units, and wasn’t impressed. So, I counter with $30. She comes back with $45. After some more drinks and fun we settle on $40. We spend more time watching the dancing, watching the fashion show, playing catch the peanut, all the fun stuff.

This one, I’ll call her Ms. Win, is a real looker. Fair skin, about 5” 4”, tight body. A 9 on the Phord scale. Extremely sweet and gentle as only these Buddhist girls can be. English ability a 7. Finally time to adjourn to Traders. She has to go change. I’m puzzled, but OK. She returns in about 10 minutes. She changed her longyi from one, to another. Apparently the first one was for work? I certainly couldn’t tell the difference, but hey.

Taxi to the hotel, went up with only a cursory metal detector wave of her purse. Showered and hit the hay. Nice, firm b00bs, no kids. Likes kissing and petting. Really enjoyed DATY, but appeared that she didn’t get it too often. Very good BBBJ. Only downside was that condoms appeared to be optional for FS. She was also very patient with me, as I had just gotten over a head cold before I left the states and my sinuses were playing hell. I probably snored like tiger, but she never complained. Overall, she rates a 10 in attitude and performance, and makes me want to kick myself for putting up with Ms. Dud last night.

Next morning, got up and encouraged her to have some breakfast. After some hesitation she agreed to have coffee in the restaurant. I got the impression that she was used to just leaving in the morning. Well, we’re not in Thailand any more, are we? Anyway, she says she has things to do at the house (apparently taking care of a sick mother, housekeeping for her other siblings, etc.) but she agrees to meet me at the hotel later in the day. So, we finish breakfast, she goes off one direction, I go the other.

Things are definitely looking up.

Have you recently tried this email, and do they accept bookings via it?

Yes, they emailed me to confirm the online booking I made. I'd give them a ring if I were you, or just take your chance and rock up without a booking. I've done that a few times and it has never been a problem.

I forgot to mention this in the last post, but little Ms. Win is a walking Viagra pill. I’m not too keen on sex in the morning, as I’m not much of a morning person. But, a couple of hours cuddling in the morning with these ladies and, look out! Suddenly, I’m 18 again. Well, maybe 25. :-)

After breakfast, Ms. Win goes off to run errands. I go, wearing long pants, to Shwedagon Paya, with a quick side trip to Bogyoke Aung San to get some more kyats. Had a very interesting tour. Met Mr. Min, a university student/tour guide. His English was very good. He told me that his was so good because he was luck enough to have an English professor who actually studied English from a native speaker, while many other students did not. This explained an interesting phenomenon where people would “mispronounce” a word, but could then spell it for you if you didn’t understand. Mr. Min kindly offered to introduce me to some friends and to show me around a little local nightlife that evening. It was very kind, and I would have liked to take him up on his offer, but I already had a date with Ms. Win. I highly recommend a tour of this place.

Back to the hotel in time for a quick nap before Ms. W shows up. When she does, I tell her I have to go meet a monk, but would be back shortly. She was very happy to just veg out in the room and watch TV. I won’t drag it out, but met Mr. Monk at the Sule Paya, got the grand tour. Then we went to the Botataung Paya and got another grand tour. One temple really start to look like another, but seeing one with a monk gives you an interesting perspective and can be very educational. But, I couldn’t get rid of the guy. He wanted to take me all over the joint. I finally insisted I had to go back to the hotel; I gave him $20 for his education fund and split.

Ms Win wanted to go shopping, so off to one of the malls we went. Bought her some jeans, or some such. Then we went to the top floor of Sakura Tower for a cool drink. Very nice views, got some nice video. It’s approaching dinner time, so I “force” her to pick someplace. Jeez, you go to a strange place and the girls all want to go wherever YOU want to go. But, I’M the stranger, YOU live here, honey. Anyway, went to the Western Park restaurant. The one with the big yellow duck on the outside. Their specialty, oddly enough, was Peking Duck. Go figure. I’ve had better, but it was good.

After a quick trip back to the hotel to drop off the leftover duck, it’s time to go have some fun. She wants to put in a quick appearance at Asia Plaza, so we do. Then, based on a tip from one of the doormen, we taxi to Club Music. We go down the stairs and the lady at the windows wants quite a bit more than usual. I think it was like 6,000K at the time. Oh, well, paid and went in. Then I found out why. The place was full and I was the only white guy in the joint. All the workers were locals, of course, and every one of the patrons was a Japanese man. Fascinating. The music was pretty good, but NOBODY would dance. All the guys just pretty much hung out with one another, smoked, drank and groped the girls who were working the crowd. Bumped into a couple of friends of Ms. Win. One we’d met before. She was average looking, but now she really looked bad. As she was working the Japanese trade, she’d slathered her face with white makeup until she looked like some strange kabuki doll. I guess the Japanese guys liked that sort of thing. Another friend had hair down to around her ankles. I had to ask her to turn around a couple of times so I could admire it. (Rumor has it that she has since married a Burmese man and quit the biz). Had a few drinks, ate the ubiquitous potato chips and other snacks that materialize at one’s table, had a really good time.

Finally got a taxi back to the hotel. I can’t remember the time, but in those days everything was closing pretty early, so it must have been between 11:00 and midnight. Had another romp in the hay similar to last night. Wow. What’s not to like? Sat for a while, cuddled a bit. She starts to cry, just a little. I’m pretty sad, too. This has been a complete gas, and it’s all over waaaay too soon. I get her phone numbers and address, just in case.

Well, up in the morning, lay around for a while. Go to breakfast, finish packing, get ready for that loooong trip to the airport. What mixed feelings. One the one hand, I’m really sad to be leaving, yet I’m really looking forward to getting to Phnom Penh, which is a place I really like. Ms. Win has been so nice, so sweet and performed so far above and beyond the call of duty that I go ahead and give her the full $50/day. I slip her a C note. Yes, it’s overpaying a bit, but I figure quality costs a bit more.

Anyway, finally get the taxi, she smiles and waves good-bye. I know one thing then and there; this will not be my last trip to Myanmar. I start making plans for the next year.

OK. Now for the current stuff.

After much planning, I headed for Myanmar in April of this year. Last year it was difficult to send e-mail, I couldn’t get onto any of my mail servers and basically was incommunicado. Assuming it would be the same this year, I could only afford to spend 6 nights there.

After a couple of nights recovering from jet lag in Bangkok, I caught the Bangkok Airways flight to Yangon. For my money, Bangkok Airways is the best airline going. Newer airplanes, great service, reasonable prices, lounges in the airports. The US carriers could take a few lessons.

This year the arrival terminal is all new. Bright, airy, white marble. Wow. Really impressive. Luggage shows up much faster than last year. Taxis are now $6. This time, no interpreter. The cabbie wants to sell all sorts of tours, etc. Then asks if I want to change money. His rate was something like 1,050:1, which wasn’t too bad. So, I changd $100. Turns out the “lower end” changers have the old style 1,000 Kyat notes. The big ones. The “upper end” changers seem to have the smaller new ones. Makes a bit less of a huge wad of bills.

Checked into Traders. This is a great hotel, extremely guest friendly and has probably the best breakfast buffet in SEA. They’ve improved their guest policy since last year. Now the girls more or less come and go as they please. When they show up the first time they have to check in with the guard at the front door. He takes their name/address/etc. and what room they’re going to. (I found out all this later from one of the girls. I wondered how they could come and go, and how she was able to find out where a particular girl we saw was going).

First thing after checking in was to call Ms. Win to see if she was still around. I realize a year is a long time in the life of a bargirl, so I didn’t get my hopes up. One number just rang. Someone picked up the other and I asked for her. Turns out the other party didn’t speak English. She finally got somebody in the house who did. The number was no longer that of Ms. Win. Bummer. Oh, well…

So, I went to Bogyoke Aung San Market and changed another $100, as I knew I’d need it. Got a little better rate by dickering a bit, something like 1,070. Memory is a bit fuzzy. Maybe it was more. Then, as I was getting hungry, I consulted the LP guide and walked over to the 999 Shan Noodle shop. I highly recommend this place. I had a very tasty bowl of Shan-style noodle soup and a Star Cola. Left very full for 800 Kyat.

I checked out the business center in Traders. Wow, what a difference a year makes. Now, except for Hotmail, Earthlink, Yahoo, I could get on the Internet, use my Exchange server connections, and communicate with the outside world. My remote support tools on my notebook still didn’t work (I think something with their proxy server) but I could have stayed more days! D’oh!

Now it’s getting about 7:00 and I change and decide to go over to Asia Plaza. Walked up, they were very nice, took my money (3,000K for men, 2,000K for women) and let me in. I was the only customer in the place. I look at the doorman. He says “It’s a bit early.” Great, you could have mentioned that BEFORE I paid. I'd forgotten that things really don’t get going here until 8:00. Grab the head waiter, ask him if Ms. Win still works there. He thinks she does, but she doesn’t get in until around 8:00. So, I sit at the bar and listen to all the help sing karaoke. I politely decline all the offers to let me sing. :-)

About 7:45 the place starts to get busy. I politely chat with a couple of girls who were trying to tag team me. I find the “spirit of cooperation” in these countries cute. One girl will help her friend, who usually doesn’t speak English, to get a customer. Usually they’ll offer a threesome. Great, but they weren’t my type, and the one who spoke English really didn’t. About 8:15 I figure it ain’t gonna happen. A cute young thing sitting on the couch in front of me catches my eye and smiles. I walk over and sit down. We begin to chat and hit it off immediately. The head waiter goes by, I ask about Ms. Win. He says “I think she not come here any more.”

So, I turn my attention to this new one. Jackpot!!! What a cutie. She’s about 5’ 1”, great body, father Chinese, mother Burmese. Bubbly personality. Her nickname means “depression” or “misery” or the like, because she’s always so happy. I’ll call her Ms. Aung.

We chat, cuddle, etc., Great personality, figure a 10. Looks a solid 8.5, maybe more. We order drinks. She orders coffee! Great. I get the only bargirl in SEA who is a teetotaler. Weird. Turns out she won’t drink too much because she’s a really weepy drunk. So, just as well.

Things are looking good, so I tell her I’m going to be in town for 6 nights. I’m looking for a young lady to take care of me and to show me around, be sort of a tour guide, etc. I had plans to visit Pathein, maybe the beach, too. Was she interested? I asked in a couple of different ways to make sure she fully understood. She said yes, she’d really like that. Cool!

So, we watch the disco portion of the evening. I really don’t care for the DJ’s mix at AP, so I don’t dance much there. Neither do many other people. You think they’d get the hint. Then the fashion show starts. I can’t take too much of watching the bored girls walking around the floor, so we bug out a bit early. However, all the clubs are now staying open much later. I guess the old closing times of 11:00 are no more.

We taxi back to the hotel, up to the room, get comfortable. Man, what a body. She loves to cuddle, loves to kiss. Pretty decent BBBJ. She responds with major moans and wetness to DATY, but then makes me stop. (This was a recurring theme).

“You not like?”
“Yes, I like”
“Why you want me to stop?”
“I don’t know…”

Arrgh. She really enjoyed FS. Not too adventurous, just mish. But man, I can’t get the image out of my mind of her opening up her towel and pulling me closer. Oooh. The only downside is that, like her counterpart last year, condom was optional at first. After a quick dip, I insisted. Somebody has to be responsible, I guess it’s gonna have to be me.

Well, it’s been a long day and we turn in. Man, I couldn’t have scripted this better.

After reading so many great trip report's about yangon on this board especially Sakaundeh posts I thought i'd give yangon and the panorama hotel ago from the 3rd of september. Had no problem with booking my flights but when I made the hotel booking with www.aisarooms.com I got a message back 24 hours later saying.

We apologize, but there are no more rooms available under Internet rates for the period you requested at the hotel you tried to book. We suggest the following alternate hotel(s) that have rooms available for that period AT THIS MOMENT: None of the alternate hotels are available.

However, you may contact us back if you want to try to book any other hotel.

Has anyone else suffered from this problem because I wanted to use the (VOA) Visa On Arrival service and you need a hotel booking to obtain this type of visa. I've also tryed calling panorama on 0095253077 from the uk but having no luck also tryed email and have had no response.

Also if anyone could recommend another girlfriendly hotel that you can book online in the same price zone as the panorama.

It was closed when I was there just after the new year. Hope it's open again .. some gorgeous girls there! My trip report will be ready soon. It's taking a while because I've been busy with work and other stuff.

Yes, I did go to Emperor. I went out 6 nights is a row, so there's a lot to write about!

Day 1 errata – exchange rate in taxi and BAS Market was 1250 and 1270, respectively.

Well, morning arrives and I find it extremely difficult to drag myself out of bed. It’s just too much fun lying there next to Ms. Aung. But, breakfast ends at 10:00, so finally up and stagger downstairs. Ms. A is a bit hesitant, but she really likes coffee, so I persuade her to join me, as it’s already included in the room. It seems as if she’s never been to this buffet before, and is a tiny bit overwhelmed. (BTW, Traders has probably the best breakfast buffet in SEA for the money. $10 US, but, having booked a double, two breakfasts were included. I had to pay for a third when we had a friend join us later in the week.). I eat, we both have excellent coffee and juice (This year they have OJ on the menu, last year they did not), she nibbles.

OK. Now it’s time to get going. She needs to go home and change clothes and get a few things. I need to go to the Biz Center and do a few things. She meets me in an hour, or so, at the room, and it’s off to the Zoo.

A note about Ms. Aung. She knows everybody. And she’s very outgoing and not afraid to act as my de facto tour guide. She doesn’t appear to have any problem being seen in public with a “foreigner.” (In Thailand you’re a falang, in Cambodia you’re a barang, in Myanmar you’re a “foreeNAHHH” ) And, she’s really cute. She’s pretty and has a great body, but, more interestingly, she has great fashion sense. Most of the girls there are very pretty, but they don’t stand out. Ms. A wears clothes that nobody in the West would give a second look, but here they seem to “pop.” Look at the picture to see a small example. Basically, she stood out like a peacock in a henhouse. In a good way! I noticed local guys constantly eyeing her, especially from the back when she would walk past.  Of course, she uses this to her advantage all the time, I’m sure.

Anyway, I have to go to the zoo, as, last year, my camera battery died after the first 15 minutes. So, off we go. Ms. Aung expresses pleasure that I have no desire to drag her to all the typical tourist things, like all the payas, but, instead, to all the odd-ball stuff. She makes a point about NOT being Buddhist, so I assume she doesn’t particularly care to visit the monks in their native habitat. For a poor country, they have a pretty decent zoo. It’s really fun to go around and feed the animals, watch the locals, get a little local flavor.

Ms. A. catches the eye of one of the “zookeepers” (and I use the term a bit loosely). You can see him drooling mentally. So, the next thing I know we’re getting a personalized tour of the place. Plus, we get to feed the tigers. Actually, he does the feeding; I’m getting video from about 2 feet away. There are just some things you can’t do in the States! Especially for a tip of about $2.

After exhausting ourselves at the zoo, we pop over to Kandawgyi Lake and wander around. As we’re exhausted, we grab a taxi to the far entrance (instead of walking around the lake) and wander around that huge restaurant a bit. If you’re not going to eat you have to pay a few kyat to get in. But, they give you a warm soda!  Go figure. It’s a nice park, and a great way to relax at the end of a day, if you’re so inclined.

Before we left for the zoo we stopped into the Central Hotel next door. She knows the guy who runs the tour desk. We discussed getting a car and driver to Pathein. After initial discussions we left for the zoo. Now, it’s time to go back and talk turkey.

I wanted to go to Pathein, as I need to get some handmade parasols, and this is the place. I looked high and low for flights, but, apparently, they only have flights on like Thursdays and Fridays. So, you either stay a week or a day, but nothing in between. The only practical way is either by bus or car. I figured car was the lesser of two evils, but, in hindsight, maybe not. One doesn’t rent a car here, one rents a car and driver. The guy starts at $200 for one day or two, doesn’t matter, same price. We can go to Pathein and stay the night, then come back the next day, or spend another day. I think 2 bills is a little high. Ms Aung goes to work! She dickers and dickers. He drops to $180, then $150. Finally he drops to $120 and will budge no further. We agree and we begin to fill out the paperwork. He sees that I’m staying at Traders and is semi-surprised. He tells Ms. A that, had he known that, he would definitely NOT have come down to $120, as anybody staying at Traders could certainly afford to pay more!

Now the down side to this is they want to leave at 3:30 in the morning. I’m thinking more like right after breakfast. He points out that it gets REALLY hot, and to beat the heat it’s best to leave early. We settle on 4:30. Ick.

So, we go to the room, pack ourselves a little overnight bag and hit the hay really early. I hate to get up early in the morning, so the more sleep the better. Little did I know that I was gonna need it!

Hello Wolfy,

Is there anyway you could give me more info about the company that arrange the visa on arrival for you?

Thanks

mr. toad’s wild ride - part 1

woke up around 3:00am. these long plane trips can play hell with ones regularity. too late to go back to bed. shower, dress, wake up ms. a. we stagger downstairs. apparently these pre-dawn excursions are common, because traders has a nice little table set up with free coffee and pastries. nice touch. we sit in the lobby and consume coffee. the car’s outside.

so, off on the dawn patrol through the streets on yangon. we’re stuffed into the back of an ancient nissan sedan that has really seen better days. the rear suspension is pretty flabby and larger bumps will smack your head on the roof. scrunching down in the seat just forces your lower back to absorb all the impact. ugh.

soon we’re tear-assing through the countryside on the way to pathein. the road is pretty good for a 2-lane blacktop ribbon through the middle of nowhere. this is heavy-duty rice country and the harvest is still going on. the driver’s trying to make good time while things are still cool. ms. a explains that it’s ok to fly along like the proverbial bat outta hell, passing everybody, because i’m a fohreenah and, apparently, am allowed to do this. i guess you get some benefits for all the double-pricing.

this is the ayerwaddy region and reminds me somewhat of the mississippi delta. rice fields as far as the eye can see. everybody seems to be engaged in rice production or a related support industry. man, things are still pretty primitive. they weren’t really common, but i did see quite a few people doing work with water buffalo. most folks had motorized contraptions for hauling the rice around, etc., but some of the really poor ones had the buffalo and ox cart.

if anybody wants to see poverty up close, they should visit rice harvesters here, or in cambodia. you’ll never look at “rich” countries, like mexico, the same way again. ms. a says the harvesters earn 1,000 kyat per kilo picked. this sounded a bit high to me and maybe her translation was a bit off. she might have meant per bag. a gf in cambodia said the harvesters there earned the riel equivalent of about $1 - $1.25 per day.

occasionally, in the middle of nowhere, a toll booth would materialize. the driver would stop and fork over a few kyat and we’d move on. the first one, however, was manned by some military-looking guy. we stop, he starts asking questions. he demands to see my passport. man, was i glad i brought it. i was going to leave it in the hotel safe, as i didn’t think i’d need it. after looking at it for what seemed a long time (but was probably 5 minutes) he gives it back and on we go. phew. i was afraid we’d get grief for having a local girl with us, but apparently that wasn’t an issue. it’s tough to tell, sometimes, when you can’t understand the language.

another uniquely burmese oddity – near the middle of nowhere you’d hear some loudspeakers and chanting, or some such, and two girls standing on either side of the road shaking a pot. they were soliciting money for some local temple, or something. but they would be, literally, miles from any paya, settlement, encampment, or whatever. often there would be some poor nun under a shade, yakking or chanting into a portable pa. i suppose this lends a bit of atmosphere. man, what a tough way to make a living.

about half-way into the 3-hour journey to pathein we stop at a strategically-placed rest stop. stretch, take a leak, have some breakfast. they had really great mohinga, and pretty cheap at around 500 – 600 kyat per bowl, if memory serves. ms. a and i are eating and i’m not paying much attention. we’re the only 3 people in the rather large place. i look around a while later and the place is full. i jokingly say to ms. a “what did they do, let out a bus?” she misses the humor completely, looks at me seriously and says “yes” like i’m a complete idiot. and she was right. in fact, there were two buses. i guess this was the burmese equivalent of the greyhound bus stop. the food was a lot better, though.

the trip now starts to bog a bit. mentally, as you can only see so many rice paddies before a certain sense of repetition creeps in. physically, as we’re hitting more road construction and the temperature is climbing steadily.

speaking of suck-ass ways to make a living, you ought to see the road crews there. everything is done manually. they need to resurface the road, so they block off a portion and sort of “scrape” the surface of the road. then, they bring in lots of large rocks. then, a couple of guys and a couple of small kids spend who-knows-how-long with a hammer and chisel turning big rocks into small rocks. once the rocks are the right size, figure irregularly shaped chunks between 6 and 8 inches across, the ladies come along and squat in the middle of this section of road and assemble the devil’s jigsaw puzzle. they arrange all these frigging rock chunks into some semblance of order and flatness. amazing. it looks something like lots of small flagstones, for lack of a better term, when they’re finished. when this is finished (again, no idea how long this takes, but figure several days) a truck comes along and dumps dirt over the rocks and a crew goes behind and tamps the dirt into the cracks and crevices and smoothes it out over the top. then a truck with hot tar comes along and covers up the dirt, with the crew behind it shoveling and raking it smooth. all this in 100+ degree heat. i wonder how many people die of heat stroke doing this. the driver, at one point, looks at me with wide eyes and said “this is not woman’s work! too hot!” i was surprised that at least half of the crews were women.

finally, after 3+ hours of unrelenting fun, we reach pathein. mr. driver wants to know where i want to go. i whip out my trusty lonely planet and give ms a the address, which she translates for mr. driver. then, for the next 20 or so minutes we wander around town asking all and sundry for directions. finally find the place where they manufacture the parasols. a rather large family-run business where everything, and i mean everything but the cotton fabric, is made by hand from bamboo and string. i take pix (frigging camera battery dies again), spend quite a while picking out a bunch to take home, arrange for them to finish a few of the ones that weren’t done, and make plans to return the next day to pick up the whole bunch. picked out something like 16 items, of various sizes, and forked over a grand total of under $45.

this post has gotten too big. i’ll finish day 3 in the next post.

Now that we’ve accomplished the reason for going to Pathein, it was time to find some lodging. I’d imagined staying the night in Pathein, but was I ever wrong. There is nothing, and I mean nothing, there. There’s one small government-owned hotel and a golf course.

So, we decide to head to Chaung Tha beach. Why not, it’s only like 20 miles, how bad could it be? Turns out it was a lot worse than I had expected. What little road exists is under construction. The fricken drive takes a little over 2 hours. I have never been so glad to get out of a car in my life.

We pull up to some beach-side bungalows. Ms. A says she knows the lady who runs the place. She pops in and asks if there is any problem with a local staying with a foreigner. The lady says no and I come into the office to rest while they prepare the room. $35 for the bungalow, right on the beach, which I think is the foreigner price. For your $35 you get a bed, mosquito netting, ocean breezes and electricity for about half a day, during the evening/night. I couldn’t figure out why the rooms had refrigerators, as you couldn’t keep anything in them during the day, as there was no power. The rooms had AC, but it was so noisy it was better to open the windows at night. Oh, don’t forget the lumpy foam mattress that had seen better days. Of course, the fringe bennie was getting to sleep with Ms. A. She’d make sleeping on the ground enjoyable.

Spent the rest of the day relaxing, swimming and watching the people. The water is wonderful. It’s in the 80s, and you can just walk in. Ahhhh. The Burmese swimsuit makers don’t do too well, it would seem. They’re very conservative people, and all the local women tend to swim fully clothed. Everybody was wearing a blouse, knee-length pants and underwear. Those few with swimsuits all had the one-piece granny style with the little skirt. Ms. A just swam in her underwear and a T-shirt.

Chaung Tha is a nice, quiet little village. The beach is sort of dirty grey and rather unremarkable, except for the water itself. Most of the hotels are the basic bungalow variety, but there were a couple of really nice resorts, but I really wasn’t in the mood to pony up over $100/night. Cripes, this is the third world.

There were quite a few locals staying at the beach, but I don’t recall seeing any other white faces. I’m sure there must me a lot more during high season.

While strolling along the beach, Ms. A spots a couple of guys with ubiquitous scrawny horses. She wants to go for a ride. I know where this is going, and my back is still aching from the cab ride from hell. I beg off, but she hops on and takes off with the guy. They finally return in about 20 minutes or so. The whole thing set me back $2 or $3. Now Ms. A, too, has a back ache. I told her that I warned her. :-)

The fireworks beach vendor was pretty popular with the locals. You can buy bottle rockets, firecrackers and Roman candles. We bought a few for later. When it got dark we corralled the driver and went into “town” for dinner. It’s low season, and the place is pretty slow. All the restaurant “touts” are out in force, trying to flag us down and get us to park in front of their place. Nobody knows where to eat, so we pick a place at random. It’s a seafood place and it lives up to my philosophy that the quality of food at a seafood restaurant is inversely proportional to its proximity to the ocean. The food was OK but unremarkable and overpriced by local standards. I recall paying between 3,000K and 5,000K per dish. I’d advise a visitor to ask a local where the good eats are. However, I will admit the shrimp were quite good.

It’s very pleasant sitting on the porch after dark, enjoying the ocean breeze and watching the kids set off fireworks. This older guy materializes and starts chatting up Ms. A. I’m getting used to all these horndogs drooling over my “tour guide” but I can’t figure out why he keeps hanging around. I thought he was one of the locals staying next door. Turns out he was the security guard and his “post” was right near our bungalow. I guess he had a much more interesting shift than usual, getting to chat with the lovely and gracious Ms. A, and all. We did our fireworks. Ms. A damn near lost an eye with the bottle rocket. The fuse hung fire and she picks it up and looks down the barrel. That’s when it fired. Boy was she lucky she blinked when she did.

After all the “excitement” and a nice, romantic night stroll on the beach, it was time to turn in. Well, first time making love under mosquito netting!

If you get a chance to go to the beaches in Myanmar, jump on it. The water is very nice, the atmosphere is very relaxing and, overall, a very good experience. The next time, however, I’m going to one that has an adjacent airport.

Well, finally pry my butt away from Ms. A and out of bed. I am so NOT looking forward to the trip back. The morning is cool and nice, just perfect for another swim. The beaches in Phuket are much more scenic, but the water here is every bit as nice.

After Ms. A finished her beauty sleep we go up to the hotel’s outdoor restaurant for breakfast. Since I’m the foreigner, I get a choice of half a dozen items, like pancakes, fried rice, eggs, etc. Ms. A, being a local, gets a choice of whatever they feel like serving the locals that day. She has two choices, take it or leave it. :-) I guess it’s good to be the king, once in a while.

After breakfast we nab the driver and pop into town. Ms. A wants to shop a bit, we visit the local paya and schmooze with the novices. Then off to another part of the beach where a boat, and I use the term loosely, takes the locals over to a little island. Locals pay something like 400K. Ms A asks how much for foreeNAH. The guy says it’s quite a bit more; it’s 1,000K. I figure I can afford the dollar, so off we go. Not much to see, just some souvenir stands (Ms. A had to have a few bits of jewelry and some shells) and a small paya on the top of the hill. Unfortunately, one has to climb a very steep, rather long set of stairs to get to it. Technically, the paya’s ground begins at the bottom of the steps, so you have to take off your shoes at the bottom. It’s 200 degrees by now, and you can fry an egg on the stone steps. What fun!

We put off leaving as long as possible, but we have to get back into Pathein to pick up the parasols. So, back into the taxi from hell. The trip back to Pathein doesn’t go any faster than the trip from, except my back won’t take the back seat anymore and I switch to the front. After the parasol pickup, a cold drink and a quick tour of suburban Pathein, it’s back to Yangon.

The trip from Pathein to Yangon looks a lot like the trip from Yangon to Pathein. The only difference is that it’s now the middle of the afternoon and it’s so hot the paint is melting off of the car. Sitting in the front allowed me to talk to the driver a bit. Like many of the locals, he was very interested in the west and western things. He had a particular fondness for America, and a fascination with the US dollar bill, specifically the pyramid and eye, and the eagle. I did my best to explain the meaning of it, but it became rather tough sledding trying to explain Masonic symbols. He had a fondness for Budweiser, back when it was available, despite being ribbed by his friends, and a strong love for Ray-Bans, which, apparently, are available but extremely expensive. He also had some very strong opinions on the separation of church and state as it related to Buddhism and the government. His views on religious tolerance should be mandatory teaching in all Muslim countries. And I liked his views on countries not meddling in other countries’ business. The people of Myanmar know their government sucks, they really don’t need people showing up and making trouble for everybody just for personal gratification.

Anyway, about the time I thought I was going to die from a combination of heat prostration and terminal road dirt, we pull up in front of Traders. Thank God!

I need to get up to the room and drop off stuff, get him his tip and a souvenir $1. The damn key doesn’t work. Apparently Traders has a policy where, if your room isn’t accessed at least once in 24 hours your key becomes inactive. What a PITA.

The driver took Ms. A home to pick up some clean clothes, I hit the shower. When she returned I consulted the LP guide and we went out for Thai food. The Yin Dee restaurant comes highly recommended by LP, but the food was really mediocre. I wouldn’t recommend it. If you’re looking for Thai food, stay in Thailand. :-)

That’s all I can remember. After going back to the hotel we both collapsed. No nookie, no nuthin’ But things will get more interesting.

Man, if it wasn’t for the taxi-ride-from-hell-induced back ache, I would have stayed in bed until noon. But, we managed to get downstairs to breakfast before 10:00. This time, Ms. A wasn’t nearly as bashful at the buffet. In fact, she took to it like a TJ cop to a bribe. Seems it was the first time she’d ever had green olives, and she liked them a lot. Also, it was a lot of fun to see this native-born chopstick user fighting (and losing) a battle with those really wide Chinese noodles you see in some soups. In the mornings you didn’t see many white folks with local lasses, but the staff never said a word and were unfailingly polite. After several cups of coffee and a couple of power failures it was time to move on

Now it was off to the train station. I’d been wanting to see it. Again she remarked about my oddball choices in touristy things. I think it’s interesting to see how people from a completely different culture get around and do ordinary things. So, we taxi over to the main station.

The place is hot and really crowded There’s not a stick of furniture anywhere and people are squatted all over the place, waiting. Upstairs is an open-air barracks for the soldiers. Really weird. They just have their beds behind this wire mesh wall, with all their belongings hanging on the wall behind them. Never seen anything quite like that before. Lots of women were carrying really heavy items on their heads. I have video of three hoisting this box, which must have weighed in the 80 – 90 pound range, up on one lady’s head. Then they hop off the platform and cross the tracks to dump it onto another train. They must have massive neck muscles! Damn near got booted out or shot by a soldier for taking pictures, so I had to stop.

The government offers a “loop” ride of the rail system. It takes about 3 hours and basically goes all the way around Yangon. This looked really interesting, but my back was still tender from that frappin’ taxi, and the wooden seats in the open-air train didn’t look too inviting, it’s really, really hot, too, so I decided not to go. Then, I reconsidered and said, “Why not?” We went to the ticket booth and it’s $1 for foreeNAHs. I had lots of kyat and a $5, but no singles. No, you can’t pay in kyat. No, we don’t have change for a $5!! No, we won’t take a $5 and give you your change in kyat! Jeez, bureaucrats are the same everywhere. So, no train ride.

Ms. A says there is a cultural museum, and wants to know if I want to see it. I figure a couple of hours wandering around an air-conditioned museum was just the ticket, so I said yes. Well, museum isn’t the correct word. Park is more like it. It’s called the National Races Village. It’s a really huge place with a large tower in the center where you walk up into it for a nice view of the surrounding countryside. Then, all around the tower, really spread out, are “model” houses, representing each Burmese State. Each has, more or less, typical architecture of the region. So, a Kachin house might be on stilts due to the rains, where a Chin house might be on the ground, but have fireplaces built into some of the rooms, due to the cold weather in the mountains. The employees would, on the weekends (and maybe every day in the winter) dress in the traditional garb of their respective state. But, mid-week, in the summer, it’s just too hot. But you, for a couple thousand kyat, can dress up and play princess or warrior. Ms. A wanted to dress up as a Shan princess. She looked pretty good, too! This place was almost strictly for locals, as it was obvious they didn’t see too many tourists. Again, no change at the entrance. I think all I had was either a $10 or $20. Of course they couldn’t break that, so they held onto it all day and said they’d get change. I guess they figured the hordes of white faces bearing dollar bills was bound to show up later. :-)

After walking all over the joint for several hours (did I mention that it was 150 degrees that day?) we drug ourselves to the front gate. They guy still had my “large” bill. He gave it back and, rather grudgingly, accepted kyat as payment. Cripes, it’s not my fault I’m the only white guy in the country foolish enough to show up here in the dead of summer. Neither mad dogs nor Englishmen have anything on me! :-) We wake up a taxi driver and head to town. I can recommend this place as a good way to absorb a little local flavor, and actually learn a little bit.

Ms. A wants to do a bit of shopping at that little mall across from the Parkroyal, if memory serves. The have a nice little iced coffee place, and that was really welcome. After that, it was off to the shoe stores. I kept picking out the stiletto-heel F*ck Me pumps (!) but she kept picking more sensible slippers. Oh, well. A nice pair cost something like $10. You gotta love the prices.

It’s walking distance back to Traders, so we stroll up the street. This taxi driver is eyeing us. As we walk past he says something that sure doesn’t sound too friendly. I have half a mind to go back and bust him, but the other half wins out. I ask Ms. A what he said, as she just walked by without a word. She said “He say ‘Welcome to Myanmar.’” I smell BS, but say nothing. Sometimes it sucks when you can’t speak the lingo.

She needed to stop by the house for a minute and she wanted to get a manicure with little pictures painted on her nails. I needed to corral my laundry and do some work in the Business Center. So, after resting a bit she took off.

We met at the BC in an hour or so. Ms. A said there was a power cut in her entire neighborhood and there wasn’t enough light for the manicurist to draw little pictures. So, she had a regular manicure and then had the lady install fake nails on her toes. This was one of the strangest things I’d ever seen, but she was really proud of it. Go figure.

This is longer that I had hoped, so I’ll cut it off here.

Hey guys, here are a few questions that I hope a few of you can help me with:

* Can ISG be accessed in Yangon
* Do any businesses or hotels (esp. Panorama) have wifi connections
* Is Lonely Planet Myanmar available at any markets
* What is the best exchange rate offered now

Thanks!

I can only reply on some of your question;

* Do any businesses or hotels (esp. Panorama) have wifi connections

Panoram Hotel certainly does not have WIFI connection and I believe most if not all meddle range hotels do not have as well. Probably those high end ones like Traders may provide the service.

* What is the best exchange rate offered now

The rate at Bogyoke market last weekend was 1285 Kyats for 100 USD note and 1260 Kyats for smaller bills.

I went for a short trip to Yangon last weekend and like to share my experience there.

Arriving early in Yangon to the brand new airport terminal; brighter lighting and more spacious feel which is much better than the old terminal next to it.
Taxi counter available just out from the customs, but seems to have lesser counters than before. Asked for the price to Panorama Hotel and was quoted 6 USD so I negotiated down to 5 USD as usual; being told of reasons like high gaoline price, etc. but after awhile they agreed to it.

After checking in, went to Bogyoke Market to get some Kyat, a local friend used to recommend a fresh water pearl shop in the central hall way of the market so I go for it. This shop is a bit towards the end of the hall way on the left side. Rate for 100 USD note was 1285 Kyat while smaller denomination notes would get 1260 Kyats.

Feeling hungry so went to 99 Shan noodle shop on 34th street; quite tasty with various type of Shan noodles made from different material; rice, wheat, sticky rice which come in soup or mixed with some dressing. I had 2 bowls of noodle with 1 soft drink aotgether for 1750 Kyats. More than enough energy to power me until the night.

After spending the afternoon finshing up some tasks and dinner, then it's action time!

Asia Plaza baseemnt is the place with easiest access from Panorama just 3 minutes walking distance. Entrance fee for men is increased to 3,500 Kyats from 3,000 Kyats previously. This entitles you one drink of either beer or soft drink.

I was ushered by a waiter inside to a sofa with some locals sitting with girls. The quality of girls were so so but I spotted a few interesting ones but they are all fashion show girls. After being asked by the waiter several times if I want a girl and he can introduce me one of those fashion show girls, I agreed to that. He asked for my preference; slim, cute (of course!), good body shape (Yes!), go back to hotel? (that's why I am here for!) and after awhile he came back with a 19 yearsold call Te Te. Not a bad choice at all, good body line and pretty face. She can speak very limited English; only understaning numbers and some simple questions. For those which she does not uinderstand she just smiled nicely.

After sitting for awhile, she said she needs to walk on catwalk and so she went. This continued several times until closing of the disco. At one point Tete said she needs some flower garland, so I asked the waiter how much does it cost and was told that it starts from 10,000 K and go up to 30,000 K, 50,000 K depending on the size and how fancy it is. Gave her the 10,000 K one to make her a bit happier as not everyone on stage receives flower garland so she looked proud of it.

Once during Tete walking on stage, I called the same waiter to ask how much does it cost for these fashion show girls and the answer is starting from 80,000 K, 100,000 K, 150,000 K and even up to 200,000 K! So, I asked what about this Tete and he said normally she asks for 100,000 K but he will speak with her. After some consultation with Tete, the waiter came back and said Tete agreed to 40,000 K of flower garland and 50,000 K and I agreed, so ordered a bigger garland for her on her next walk. But when it comes to the time to ask for the bill, I realized that I have taken out most of my cash for this late night venturing and had not enough cash to pay for drinks & garlands! Explained the situation to the waiter and told him that I will be back in 15 minutes but he said no worry, he will speak to Tete and have her sign for the garland and I can pay her later at the hotel; sounds good so he spoke to Tete and had it done.

He came back to report to me and I thanked him for his help, he said no problem and whispered "Do not forget me!" So, I forked out 3,000 K and gave him for the role he had played for the night.

Back at the room, Tete looks good even under the brighter light not just in the darkness. But she got the TV syndrome which was hooked to the screen and not much attention to me ! I had to hug and turn her to the side away from TV to get into the action. She was a beautiful creature to look at but poor in service mind or skill if there is any. Apart from the good look, the only other plus for her is probably the freshness of a teen.

In the morning, sending her off and she grabbed a can of soft drink before leaving so I took as the tip, on the cheap side but her performance does not really worth giving anything extra; so that was my Day 1 in Yangon.

The second night will be reported shortly.

Regarding hotel bookings:

Can I just arrive at the airport and book at information?

Won't it be cheaper than online and walk ins?

Do they even have a place to book hotels at the airport? There used to be several tour desks at the old terminal, but from what I had seen at the new terminal last week there was just 2 counters and no picture or advertisement wording on hotel was in place. Probably they can offer such service but whether it's cheaper than online booking or walk in, I don't know.

From my experience, I found that having made advance booking would save you time and hassle to look for some place to stay upon arrival. Whether it's booking online or via some travel agency, if the rate seems to be reasonable then it's not a bad idea to have a place booked; at least for the first night or so and if you like to see and hunt for another place you can do so in more relaxed manner.

* Can ISG be accessed in Yangon

Thanks!

While I can't answer your question directly, *any* website in *any* country can be accessed if you set up your own proxy at home. Do a search for software that American highschool kids use to circumvent their school proxy restrictions.

The downside is that you need to leave your (or someone else's) computer at home switched on and connected to the net.

FYI - Traders does NOT have WiFi. You can use your notebook in the Business Center. They'll connect you and program in the proxy server settings. More sites appeared to be accessible, but you can't get to yahoo mail, hotmail, earthlink mail. Gmail was available in May, but I don't know about now.

so, after a rousing day of schlepping around in zillion-degree heat, night was falling and it was time to party a bit. we decide to head off to asia plaza for a bit.

an odd thing happened on the way out. we were exiting the elevators when i saw a young lady waiting to go up. she was a local and bore a resemblance to ms. w, who i had met last year. i looked at her, she looked at me rather expectantly as she entered the elevator. i thought, at first, it was a look of recognition (i found out later that she was looking for a customer and thought it was me). ms. a saw this, and, in a not too friendly manner, wanted to know if i wanted to go with her. i tried to explain that i thought it was somebody i knew. she came back with “do you want me to find her for you?” i was confused and wanted to know how she could locate a stranger in this large hotel. she trotted off and spoke to the security guard. she came back and said she was on the 17th floor, room 17-something-or-other.

“how do you know?”
“she go to visit customer”
“how do you know?”
“she check in with guard. he read to me from book.”

so, as i mentioned in the first post of this series, the unescorted girls give their particulars and destination to the guard and he lets them in. strange, but true. so, we went up to 17 and she was standing in the hall. ms. a spoke to her. i asked her name. it wasn’t ms. w, and i could clearly see, after getting closer, that it wasn’t her. i said thanks, sorry to bother you, and we left. ms. a is still grousing about “you want to go with her, no problem.” i finally sat her down and patiently explained that i thought it was somebody else.

“then why you want to speak to her? you want her?”
“no. if it was lady i meet before, i say ‘hello. how are you? remember me?’ that’s all.”
“ok”

sheesh!

anyway, off to ap, we get there and get seated. (you’d think if the lady “works” there they’d get a break on the entrance fee, but nooooo). after 10 minutes, guess who walks in? the lady from the lobby with her customer and his friend. we all nodded at each other and smiled. i like the ladies at ap but not their disco mix, nor do i care much for those insipid fashion shows. ms. a tells me all about how they work (a friend of hers runs a “team” of fashion ladies). we meet a friend of hers, i’ll call her ms. piggy, with her korean “boyfriend.” this isn’t a pejorative, it’s just she had a rather turned-up nose and reminded me a bit of said muppet. she was very cute in a moon-faced sort of way. spoke virtually no english. mr. k is her steady customer, has some sort of job where he visits a lot from korea. we all decide to go out somewhere else.

we pile out of the joint after ms. p changes and grab a taxi. “where to?” mr. k wants to go to pioneer, so off we go. prior to this, the girls kept talking about “shannavee.” i had no clue what they were talking about, but pioneer won.

the cab pulls up to pioneer. there are no cars, no people, no nothing. turns out the place is closed. some sort of repair work going on. so, the girls want “shannavee.” off we go.

now the cab pulls up in front of channel [v]. ohhh, i get it. entrance fee is 5,000k for men, i think. it might have been less. it’s split into 2 parts, a all-fashion-show-all-the-time half and the disco half, which you can hear in mandalay if the wind is right. we opt for the fashion show part, as there are seats and it’s a bit quieter. big mistake. nothing happened, they were between shows, nothing going on but insipid karaoke. girls wandered off, we sipped drinks, got terminally bored, got into a fight with the waiter. we wanted to move into the disco and take our bar tab with us. the waiter insisted we pay. mr. k, who speaks burmese, got into a very heated discussion, we’re angry. the girls come back, see we’re angry, got apologetic, etc., etc., etc. ick.

so, we go over to the disco side and everything changes. i think everyone should go to a burmese disco once. nobody gets down like a bunch of burmese guys! the wait staff were all extremely friendly and accommodating. being low season, i guess that was why i was the only white guy in the place. but it looked like it was always a pretty heavily local crowd. it was very weird being taken by the hand, literally, and being led to the men’s room. weirder still was the waiter waiting until i finished, then taking me by the hand again and leading me back to my table. but, all the men are very friendly with one another, as are the ladies with each other. it was rather refreshing to see groups of guys dancing with each other and having fun. in socal, everybody would be looking at them sideways and muttering about fags.

i wind up dancing my ass off. ms. p loves to dance. ms. a doesn’t like it as much, but when she got out there and started shaking that shapely azz, look out! so, the three of us danced a lot. mr. k didn’t dance at all, despite my urgings.

one funny thing; there was a “bouncer” i called the burmese equivalent of lurch. except he was good looking. but he was a lot taller than average. he was in charge of keeping things more or less orderly. the head waiter is keeping an eye on the foreenah (i noticed him watching us dancing) and somebody bumped (barely) into me. what, getting bumped on a crowded dance floor? never! next thing i know, the head waiter is telling lurch something. then lurch comes out onto the dance floor and, very discreetly, stands “between” me and the other revelers. i wasn’t sure exactly how to interpret this, but it was interesting.

at one point, i came off the dance floor and mr. k was gone. and, he didn’t come back. i figured he got pissed because this white guy was monopolizing his girl. but they told me later that he just needed to leave to catch a plane. whew! so, ms. p has nowhere to go. it’s suggested that she stay with us. ok. who am i to argue when given the opportunity to sleep with two pretty burmese ladies at the same time?

closing time rolls around, which i think was around 1:00am? memory is fuzzy. we catch a cab back to the hotel. just like patpong, pattaya, or anywhere else where there are a lot of people leaving at once, there was a horde of taxis all demanding exorbitant prices. ms. a bypasses the most egregious ones, heads to the rear of the line, nabs one for a lot less money and off we go.

so, we stumble into the lobby of traders. no problem dragging in two ladies, just the standard wanding of the bags, in case you have any nuclear weapons or something. then upstairs. we hit the showers individually. first me, then mr. p, then ms. a.

i’m laying in bed with ms. p while ms. a is futzing around in the bathroom. i wonder what’s taking so long. i turn my attention to ms. p. she likes to kiss a little. no objection to playing with the twins. she seems to really enjoy a little daty. but, when it came time to enter, she started a bit of starfish routine. she certainly didn’t object, she just didn’t really take an active role in the activities. i decided it wasn’t really worth the effort and got up to see what was keeping ms. a. it turns out that this is their m.o. if one is occupied with the customer the other will wait in the bathroom until they’re finished. no double-teaming of the customer (bummer) and certainly no lez action (which isn’t my cup of tea anyway). they’re a pretty conservative lot, these burmese. :-) i drag ms. a to bed and proceed to get beneath the towel and give her the high hard one.

one note, it’s really nice to sleep between two lovelies, as you can get your fill of cuddling every time you turn over. but it’s a real drag if you want to get up to [CodeWord134] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord134), or something. you have to crawl over somebody, and [CodeWord140] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord140) them off, or exit out the foot of the bed, which can be more difficult than it sounds.

so, it’s nice to have the extra female company, ms. a has a friend to talk to, but the wild sexual escapades didn’t happen. on balance, it’s still a good thing.

tomorrow we get to squire two ladies around town.

somehow we managed to get out of bed, showered and downstairs before the buffet closed at 10:00. both ms. a and ms. p dug right in. the waitress was unfailingly polite, and pointed out that i had a third person. i said yes, and that i would certainly pay for the additional meal. no problem. it’s an extra $10, which is a lot of money in these parts, but they have one of the best breakfasts in sea, and certainly the best when you consider value for money.

after gorging ourselves we retired to the room. it was decided that we should all go swimming. traders has a really nice pool. neither a nor p had swimsuits, so they decided to go in their underwear. i really didn’t think that would fly, so i dug out a couple of my t-shirts for them to wear. i told them to put them on over their bra/panty combos and that might be ok. they looked at me funny, but complied. we snagged the robes from the room and off we trundled.

got to the pool and we were the only ones there, except for the pool attendant/bartender. i proceed to get a lounge chair, then to get in. the girls take off for the shower. five minutes later the come trotting out, sans t-shirts, and proceed to get wet. i guess they didn’t grasp the concept. anyway, it turns out that neither of them can swim, so we spend the afternoon alternating between splashing around in the shallow end, or me giving “swimming” lessons in the deep end. i showed them how to use the little “surfboards” and kick around, how to inhale/exhale properly, etc., then supported them as they paddled around the deep end. i felt like dad and his 4-year-old daughters! :-0

so, about 20 – 30 minutes into our session the lady attendant comes out and looks around. she has a conversation with the pool guy. they’re watching us a bit more than usual. she finally comes over and has a chat with ms. a and ms. p. then she comes over to me. she is all smiles and unwaveringly polite.

“excuse me, sir. the ladies are swimming in their underwear. that is not allowed.”
“yes, i know. would it be all right if they put on t-shirts?”
“no, they must have bathing suits.”
“hmm. are bathing suits available at the hotel?”
“yes, of course. also, we must charge you for having an extra guest”
“certainly.”

now ms. p wasn’t taking up any more bed space, and i’d already paid for her breakfast, so i really don’t think it’s fair to charge me for a third person, but rules are rules, i suppose.

so, she takes ms. a and ms. p in tow and off they toddle into the bowels of the hotel. i have no idea where they’re headed, as i’ve not seen a swimsuit vendor in the hotel. now i start to worry a bit. any other hotel in the world is gonna [CodeWord123] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord123) you for this kind of stuff. i envision them coming back with $200 designer bikinis, or something.

the return about 15 – 20 minutes later wearing those one-piece granny-style swimsuits, complete with skirt ruffle. similar to what you’d buy your modest 11-year-old daughter. after expressing my appreciation on how beautiful the suits were (the girls were proud of them) i asked how much they cost. ms. a said that ms p’s suite was $15 and that hers was $18. now i’m happy, too! ;-)

we’ve had unrelenting heat and humidity for the last 5 days straight. so, of course, today is the day when it cools off, the clouds come in, the wind blows and it rains. not a lot, but enough to make swimming a bit chilly. so, after a couple of hours of relaxation we head back to the room to change. ms. a takes me aside and mentions that i will need to pay a little money to ms. p (duh!).

"how much?"
"up to you..." (where have i heard that before?)
"well, we no make love or anything. hmmm. $20?"
"yes, that is fine."

after cleaning up we head downstairs. ms. a and ms. p need to do a little shopping, apparently. so, they start wandering up and down the little shopping gallery in the hotel. man, i hate shopping. ms. a needs some sort of make-up, but the makeup place was closed. she spends an inordinate amount of time in the gift shop. she finally trots out and drags me in to see what she’s picked out. she’s found a ring that she really wants. it’s like $35. what can i say? after another interminable wait, in another shop, ms. p finds an inexpensive watch she has to have. oh, well….

then it’s off to somewhere else, but i can’t, for the life of me, remember where. food was involved. we finally wind up at sakura tower. the top floor’s café is really nice, the coffee and drinks are pretty good, the desserts are very tasty, too. we collapse on a couple of the sofas there and cool down for an hour or so.

ms. a is becoming gradually more subdued, and i’m beginning to get a bit depressed also. time is running short.

As mentioned in my earlier report, I had a good looking star fish with me for the first night which costed me well above average in this market; so I thought to myself that once for fashin show girl was enough.

Having decided so and too lazy to go anywhere else, I headed for Asia Plaza once again as there were several interesting girls from the previous night that I was also interested in.

Greeted by the same waiter who tried to get me to some sofa inside, but this time I told him that I prefer the counter where I can have a better overview of what's happening as well as seeing all people passing by.

Getting seated and ordered my usual drink while observing the creatures around. It's not just me who's doing this as all those girls were also observing me as well. I normally give everyone a smile and some of them started to come closer to me. I greeted Hi to one of the girl who kept on smiling to me. She's rather small; just around 1.50 m only while I'm 1.80 m, had quite pretty face (in this dim environment). She's 21 and understands basic English conversation; good that we can at least communicate something.

I browsed through those fashion show girls on stage for which I do not have appetite for tonight, then those girls walking pass me and around. The 2 next to me seems to be the best; one is the above 21 yearsold and the other one is darker skin one with good body line. But this small 21 years named Tana is friendlier and kept on smiling which finally won my heart; so I asked her if she like to go back with me, and of course she said Yes. Asked for the price and was quoted 50,000 K, I told her that I am paying 40,000 K for LT she said OK, ST or LT same same so we go.

Tana was alright in the sense that she let me do whatever I want and asked if I want to have BJ and I nodded my head so she went BBJ which her skill was good. Her small body is very thin and I was afraid that pumping into her would damage her internal part but she said no worry so I pumped into her at various positions but slowly. Overall, more satisfaction than the previous night.

In the morning, we both had to hurry as she leave for home while I need to catch the plane, so gave her what was agreed plus 3,000 K for taxi and we went our own ways.

2 nights in Yangon, same pick up place, different type of girls, different attitude and different level of service mind / professionalism. I wish the trip can be longer so I can have more experience to share with you all.

after sakura tower, we head back to the room for a bit. it’s starting to get dark, so it’s time to start thinking about going out someplace.

ms. a is becoming more and more subdued, but trying bravely to hide it and be cheerful. i’m starting to feel bad, too, as i really don’t want to leave. i’m kicking myself for only booking 6 nights, and cursing the government for f*ucking up the internet to the point where i can’t use it for remote support. if i could do more work, i would stay longer. sh*t.

so, after some rest and discussion, we decide to try pioneer again. it’s a bit early, but we head out.

i had another funny moment, as our two cultures bumped heads again. ms. p had basically assumed residence with just the clothes on her back and her wallet. she had left her wallet on the dresser, so, on the way out, i picked it up, handed it to her and said “don’t forget this.”

she looked at me rather oddly and fired off a burst of burmese to ms. a. ms. a looks at me and says:

“isn’t she going to stay with us tonight?”
“yes, i suppose so. why do you ask?”
“why you want her to take wallet?”
“umm, won’t she need it?”
“why?”
“it has her id card.”
quizzical look.
“in many countries, a young lady go to a bar, the man outside bar want to see id card. he need to see if lady is too young.”
“oh. no problem. they not do that here.”

ok. fine. i guess ms. p thought i was asking her to pack up. that also went a long way in explaining why i encountered **** girls in emperor last year.

so, off to pioneer. we roll up in the taxi and, today, it’s open. we pile out and pile in.

not a good choice. now, i’ve gotten used to the dual-pricing schemes in most of these countries. the ones in myanmar tend to be pretty minor, like the little shuttle boat at chaung tha beach. it was like 400k or 500k for locals. the man said it was quite a bit more for foreenah. how much? 1,000k. minor things like this. but this was the first time i'd encountered it at a disco. we walked up to the lady at the front desk, who immediately demanded 9,000k for foreenah. now this is like three times the fee at asia plaza, almost double music club. plus, for free, i got a small helping of bad attitude. so, right off the bat i go in with a bad taste in my mouth.

as i said, it was early and there were few people there when we sat down. therefore, i could find no reason for the extremely slow service. our drinks finally arrived and i sat back to watch the people trickle in. this seemed to be a different crowd tonight. a lot more attitude, people seemed to want more to be “seen” than to have a good time. there was a couple of groups of local kids in some nearby tables. now i understand that cell phones in myanmar are very expensive. i don’t know how much, but i’ve heard numbers between $1,000 and $2,000. i do know that not too many people seem to have them. well, every one of these kids pulls out a cell phone and starts playing with it. not-so-discreetly showing off. i’ve seen the same thing with groups of chinese kids here, back when cell phones were expensive. showing off daddy’s money.

after a while the music started and the place began to fill up. personally, i didn’t care for the mix. a little to “hard-edged” for me. we put up with it for a while, but neither of my companions seemed to thrilled about it either. i asked if they wanted to go. ms. a said yes. i suggested channel [v]. she said “yes. they have happy music.” off to listen to some “happy” music.

taxi over, up the rickety elevator, pay the fee and into the disco we go. we received the same amount of attention as the previous night. danced, had a few belts, ate a few snacks, had a really great time. but it was clear that ms. a was having trouble keeping up the façade. so, near closing time, we leave. i felt much better tonight, as i had brought enough money. yesterday i ran short and had to stiff the head waiter, and i felt bad. today i made up for it with a reasonable generous tip to him and the guy who hustled the drinks and peanuts.

after we arrived at traders and got up to the room, the dam pretty much broke. after showers and my preliminary packing, ms. a just sort of lost it. she started crying like she’d lost her best friend. man, i felt low. maybe if i’d been more of an a$$hole she would be happy to get rid of me. i felt really torn, as part of me was rebelling at the thought of having to leave, part of me was looking forward to getting back to thailand, and part of me felt like a jerk for making her feel this way in the first place.

well, in a situation like this, what can you do? i guess you gotta take the good with the bad. i just sat and held ms. a for a long time and tried to keep from crying myself (which was no easy task). she’d try to collect herself after a while and almost compose herself, then break down again. as it turns out i just held her until she fell asleep, then we all turned in. man, i really wish i’d been able to understand what she had been saying to ms. p. i asked her to translate, but the just said no through her tears.

This, of course, is the down side of being a good guy -- not that I'd suggest being otherwise. The times it's happened to me it's been heartbreaking and a source of the blues for quite while afterward. It's led me to being a bit more detatched just to avoid the pain (both inflicted and received). Not so difficult when in a more hard-core mongering environment, but I can see how the Yangon scene and the comparative innocence of many of the girls could test one's resolve.

Thanks again for some great reports.

The End

Well, we all woke up in a somber mood. Ms. A and I just sort of laid around and held one another. She was in a very subdued mood.

As I’ve said in prior postings, I’m not much for morning nookie. But Ms A is a walking Viagra tablet, and, after a while, she starts pulling me into her open towel. Just as things were getting interesting, Ms. P comes out of the bathroom. I see Ms. A, out of the corner of my eye, wave her back into the bathroom. :-) I don’t care, as I’ve now got one thing in mind. After a brief delay for condom retrieval, we resume and things are great. Or at least as great as things get before coffee.

After a brief rest it’s off to the shower, then off to breakfast. The girls’ appetites are still pretty healthy. Again, I’m the only white guy with two local ladies at his table, but the staff takes no notice. No further questions, just sign for the additional breakfast.

We finish and go back to the room to finish packing. Ms. A breaks down again, and begins sobbing. There is little I can do except try to comfort her. We sit on the bed and talk a while. Ms. A eventually composes herself. Finally, it’s time to relocate to the lobby.

On the way out the door, Ms. P lets loose a burst of Burmese.

“She say ‘Aren’t you going to give money to her?’”
“Of course I am. I have to get change. Only have large bills.”
“OK” More Burmese, A to P.

BTW, Ms. A and I had settled up the day before. The damages were $300 for all 6 nights. Yes, it’s $50/night, but this was pretty much 24/7 company, which, IMHO, is well worth the price.

The makeup store in the shopping gallery is now open, so Ms. A heads over and finds what she wanted the other day when they were closed. I need change, so I fork over a $100 bill. They look at it, say no problem, and send it off with somebody to get change. Five minutes later they’re back. Sorry, we can’t accept this bill. It’s series CB. Too many counterfeits in this series. Nobody in Myanmar will accept. Hmm. OK. Here’s a different series. No problem, they take off and return with change in 5 minutes. FWIW, they like their US bills as new as possible, and in pristine condition. NO rips, missing corners, etc. They won’t accept them otherwise. And, there are certain series’ of hundreds they won’t take, either.

Then I check out, pay the bill in cash. It’s so weird not being able to use a credit card at a hotel. Then over to where the girls are waiting and hand Ms. P $25, cuz I’m a generous kinda guy.

Now we sit in the lobby for a bit. We talk, Ms. A is trying to be cheerful, Ms. P is unfazed by the whole thing. It’s obvious that we’re just postponing the inevitable, so, finally, I grab my bags and head for the door, ladies in tow. I have the doorman hail a couple of taxis, one for me, the other for the girls. I give a discreet hug and peck on the cheek to Ms. A, who’s eyes are starting to well up again, then climb in the back and I’m gone.

I usually monitor only the Thailand and Cambodia forums, I'm not even sure why I hit the Burma button but it proved a happy accident as I read your reports end to end at one sitting. I found it was like when you read a really good book and don't want it to end... nice work.

First, I’d like to thank everybody who provided such kind feedback. Thanks for reading my scribblings, typos, grammatical errors and all. They were pretty much stream-of-consciousness products. The installments became increasingly difficult to write, as I would become more and more depressed having to relive the forced parting from Ms. A and the depressing cab ride back to the airport.

I found Myanmar a fascinating place, not just because of the women, but for the culture in general, too. I was a little apprehensive, at first, that I wouldn’t be able to really have a Thai-style GFE. Most of the postings here are about short-time encounters or single-nighters, and for good reason. The government hasn’t proven to be all that friendly when it comes to the treatment of these girls. But, I proved that it is doable, with a bit of luck, and extremely rewarding. It’s also nice to get an up close and personal view of places you’re told you should despise and avoid. I prefer to make up my own mind

I had a good time in Yangon. See my reports, but struck out in Bagan, Mandalay and Inle last time. Thinking of Sittwe, Thandwe and Kalay Myo this time. Any chance of finding evening entertainment?

I am not comfortable taking along for LT from Yangon.

Hope to hear from you.

Cheers

You should have taken the boat. A bit hard to dind but Ms would have had no trouble with that.

Spartan but very do-able and the best way to soak up Burma. Thanks, FP. I had actually researched the boat. It sounded like a really interesting trip. It appeared that it would have taken way too long. However, in hindsight, it may have been a better choice. Next time... :-)

Your reports were well-written and thoughtful. With a Burma trip coming up in a couple of months (from Thailand where I have been living the past 6-7 years) your sense of the place is very interesting.

Thanks for all of the obvious effort you put into retelling your trip and happy to hear that you had such a good time there. I hope that I leave with the same positive perspective as you have.

Again, thanks for the reports

I posted these questions 3 weeks ago and can now provide some answers for others who might be interested:

* Can ISG be accessed in Yangon

Net cafes block ISG and any other websites with similar information.

Yahoo and hotmail are blocked, but Gmail works.

I used my ISP email which had no problems.

Websites which offer free IP blocking are also blocked by the net cafes (and I tried almost everything there is to get access to ISG).

There are probably ways to set up proxy servers to obtain more access, but I had no time or facilities available prior to arriving in Yangon.

* Do any businesses or hotels (esp. Panorama) have wifi connections

Didn't find any businesses that used wifi-hubs.

There could be a market for someone to open a western style coffee shop with wifi in Yangon.

* Is Lonely Planet Myanmar available at any markets

Didn't need one in the end as hotels have good maps and the staff are eager to provide any info I needed. Tried to find one but didn't see any LP books.

* What is the best exchange rate offered now

Got 1300 from a guy who took me to a shop that he 'worked for'.

Appeared to be a scam at the time, turned out to be fine

(I counted the stack of bills 3 times to be sure).

A hotel bought my remaining cash off me on the last day for the same amount. Left Yangon with 0 kyats.

I was in Yanggon for one month, so I have to hotel to recommand. First the mgm it a place for lazy guy. 10 box for the room and the guy in the lobby provide you everything you want for less than 25 dollars. You can have an over night. But one advice stay really cover.

Then I stop to the asia plaza, you have to pay 10 box more if you have a guest, the girl in the dsicop donw stair are not really pretty so you should go to the empror or the pionner or the bm1. But the price are more expensive 27000 kyat to 40000 kyat. But the girls are really nice.

See ya

During this trip, I had the pleasure of having Burmese girls from the country’s three major religions, Buddhists, Muslims and Hindus. I'll report on each encounter with each type, but of course, I won't be making any generalisations about them. But it just goes to show how diverse the girls in Burma can be from all race, cultural ethnicities and religions. And they were all very pleasant to be with, as always.

I'll start with Dewi (not her real name), a Burmese Hindu of Tamil descent. She’s a regular at the Emperor and I’m sure many mongerers who go there would have come across this cutie. Her skin is almost jet black and she likes to wear white making it easy to find her in the dimly lit nightclub. She also sometimes participates in the fashion parade as a fill in when other girls are taking a break or have “customers” to attend to.

I spotted her 12 months ago for the first time, and then again during my last trip but this is the first opportunity I’ve had to acquire her services for the night. No more small talk for me these days; I think many of the working girls at the Emperor and Palace know me quite well by now (by face) and know what my intentions are. After confirming that she was available for the night, we negotiated a price which was a little high to begin with, but managed to bargain it down to 25,000 kyat.

Dewi surprisingly spoke decent English and seemed to enjoy practicing her English with me, whilst I practiced my Burmese language skills with her. She understood quite well when I asked for a BJ in Burmese (a phrased I learn from my Yizar during my last trip) and back at the hotel, her ‘Li sok’ skills wasn’t too bad although I thought she did end it a little too quickly. Anyway, ‘Li sok’ was a good primer to what happened next. I’ve become quite accustomed to the standard services delivered by Burmese WG’s and this encounter was nothing more than standard. She goes off to the bathroom to bath, wraps a towel around herself and then jumps on the bed lying down. I proceed on top, unwrap the towel, make sure the little fella is capped, and then away we go. No real kissing .. just like pecks on the cheek, she grunts a little and then says ‘na deh’ which means “it hurts” .. sigh … so I pull out, and we have a little rest before we go at it again.

The sex was nothing special with Dewi but I have to admit I did enjoy her company. I’ve taken it upon myself to learn more about the lives of the girls I’m with, more out of curiosity than anything else. Dewi seems quite a strict Hindu; I asked her if she’d like to order anything to eat from room service in doing so, we talk about things she likes to eat. Well, being a Hindu, she says she doesn’t eat meat (from a cow I presume, because she had no trouble swallowing my meat for a decent BBBJ), nor does she like to eat chicken, but she does eat fish. Before we hit the sack again, she says she has to leave at 7am as her mum gets worried if she doesn’t get home before 8am. Before she left, I asked her about her first time screwing. She said it was about a year ago, and deflowered to a Japanese client for $500 USD. Now, that's a pretty high price for someone's virginity! I think I'll leave the deflowering to others who enjoy that kind of thing. In my experiences, Burmese girls all tend to be pretty tight anyhow even if they've been working for some time.

As she left, she asked whether I’d be back again at he Emperor this evening to which I replied in the affirmative. A really nice and friendly girl she is and one which I’d recommend to anyone, although the sex part of it could have been a little more exciting. Hopefully this will come with a little more experience.

It was back again to the Emperor the next day. There’s surprisingly quite a number of Burmese working girls who are Muslims and this girl (I’ll call her Yin Yin, although not her real name) is about the fourth or fifth one I’ve had overall. Quite often they’re the product of mix marriages where one of the parents is of Indian Muslim descent and the other is Burmese which often gives rise to quite a stunningly attractive offspring.

After paying my 3000 kyat entry fee at the door, I turn around, only to be surrounded by a group of girls’s pulling on my arm and asking me to sit with them. Usually in such circumstances, I ignore all offers and just keep walking and only after I’ve had a chance to peruse what’s on offer do I approach anyone. But on this instance, as I walked in, Yin Yin grabbed my arm, pressed her body against mine and says ‘hello Mr, you alone?’. She’s quite a good looker, probably about an 8 on the Sakaundeh scale, so my immediate reply to her was ‘not anymore, how much?’.

This must have been the quickest time I’ve ever taken from paying at the counter, to finding someone I’d like to spend the night with, all within 60 seconds. On the couch as we watched the fashion show, she becomes quite playful licking my ear and whispering into my ear that she loves me everyday (everyday cik’ teh) LOL! Hahaha Before heading back to the hotel, Dewi the girl from the previous night sits with us. Yin Yin and Dewi apparently know each other quite well; she tells me this is her ‘thein gey jin’ (friend) and assures me that she ‘seik kaung deh’ (has a very good heart). Although I don’t mind girls with a very good heart, I’d much prefer it if they had a very good pussy as well. :D

Back at the hotel now, and it’s the same deal .. Yin Yin undresses in the bathroom, wraps a towel around herself and then lies on the bed where I attempt foreplay, leading to unwrapping the towel, donning the condom and then away we go. Again, kissing was nothing more than light pecks on the mouth and cheeks, nothing too affectionate. And I could have done without her fake cries of ‘oooohh .. arrgghhh .. yes, yes, I love you, I love you ..’ which sounded like something she learnt from watching a few western style porno movies (possibly her mamasan’s training videos! LOL!)

In the morning before she left, the same conversation about what she preferred to eat was raised again. Like Dewi, she seems to adhere to her religion somewhat and doesn’t eat pork but she doesn’t mind a glass of beer or two.

Again, like Dewi, I’d have no trouble recommending this girl. A fun girl to be with, and if you’re after a good GFE, then Yin Yin wouldn’t be far from it. Price paid was 30,000 kyat .. again on the steep side for girls at Emperor, but really couldn’t be bothered to negotiate this time.

I can’t believe I actually received my first money back guarantee from a working girl! LOL! I had already picked a girl from the Palace for the evening but decided to go down to the Emperor to catch up with Dewi and Yin Yin whilst my girl does the catwalk at the Palace. As I enter the Emperor, again a group of girls come up to me and ask me to take them for the night, even after I emphatically say to them that I already have someone and that I wasn’t interested. One girl, was very persistent and followed me around the club even when I went to the loo! LOL! She wasn’t too bad looking herself; a tiny, slim body and a beautiful sweet smile not to mention a nice set of tits. She was joined by another girl, whom I knew from 12 months ago. This girl acted as her pimp and I was amazed by the improvement in her English as she says to me, about her friend; “If no good, no pay” hahaha! Well there you have it … my first money back guarantee ever, from Burma of all places! LOL!

I had to physically push this girl away as I was leaving to head back to the Palace where my fashion girl (whom I’ll refer to as FG) was waiting. FG is a regular at the Palace and in my humble opinion; she’s the best looking out of all of them, with a super slim body and lovely long hair and a beautiful face. I’m sure all mongerers who are regulars to the Palace will know her quite well. A very popular girl amongst the local scene crowd and known not just for her gorgeous looks, but great attitude and politeness as well.

Unlike my last trip, where I spent most of my time with the one girl (my yizar), I’ve decided to explore a range and variety of beautiful Burmese girls from all ethnicities and religion this time. No way was I going to stick to the one girl for the entire trip as I did last time. After all, discovering a completely different naked body next to me each morning as I wake up is so damn exciting! And furthermore, it fascinates me how each different girl responds differently to the initial moment of penetration; some take it gasping; some have this “oh no, it’s gonna hurt” expression; some close their eyes and smile; some turn their head away and have no reaction.

Well when I entered FG for the first time, she was looking at me intensely, a look that I’ve not seen since I had a serious relationship with my real ex-girl friend many years ago now. As I went in deeper into her, she kept on looking into my eyes and then she started kissing, first lightly on the lips and then it was deep throat. I naturally increased the vigor at which I entered her whilst she hugged me and continued on kissing. This escalated into to deep throat kissing with her tongue firmly embedded against mine. It wasn’t long before I completely blew my load and judging by her reaction, she was close to climaxing as well, if not already there herself. Well, this was one encounter that completely blew me away. Never in all my experiences with a working girl in Burma have I experienced such a passionately authentic GFE love making experience as this. And rarely do I get girls looking intently into my eyes as FG does, whilst I’m screwing their brains out! LOL!

I’ve known of FG for at least 12 months before, me being a regular at the Palace and so too her, but this is the first time I’ve actually had her. If I only I knew how passionate she was about her job, 12 months ago! LOL! When I was last here, I was too preoccupied with my Yizar (who, by the way, is FG’s very very good friend) and as a result, did not get a chance to engage in this way.

The next day I had to leave to venture up country, so it was good bye to FG for a week or so, but she agreed to keep in touch and, each day as I was away, without fail, she would call me at my hotel. When I returned to Rangoon again, she met me at the hotel where she pretty much stayed with me for the remainder of my trip, and apart from two days where she returned home briefly to give money to her family, she was with me for pretty much 24 hours a day. As for LT goes, well , this had to be the ultimate LT GFE experience and the interesting thing was that she did not ask for more than the standard overnight rate of 20,000 kyat. I ended up paying her much more than this, of course to be fair to her.

During the day I’d leave her at the hotel room whilst I went about with my daily routine. Sometimes, we’d go shopping at near by Dagon Shopping centre, but otherwise we’d spend quiet afternoons embraced together, watching TV or listening to music on my laptop where sometimes our touching, feeling of one another lead to deep throat kissing and passionate hardcore fcuking! Again, this would have to be the ultimate of all the GFE’s I’ve had in the past.

Well, so much for my desire to seek a variety of different girls on this trip! FG was it for the remainder of my trip. When I was about to leave, I couldn’t believe that she was actually crying. There were infact real tears streaming down her cheek and after we had one last fling for the road, she gave me her phone number and asked me to keep in touch. When girls do this in the past, I’ve often not bothered but with FG, she's different and I’ve called her on 4 occasions since arriving back home.

Well, never have I ever taken a relationship with a working girl to this level, but guess FG is different and not your average working girl. Those of you who visit the Palace regularly would definitely know who FG is. She’s one fine girl!

Biz99, you'll have a ball, I'm sure. You can't go wrong picking up girls from either the Emperor or the Palace. If you'd like to try some upmarket girls, try the Pioneer Club located in the grounds of the Yuzana Garden Hotel. The Pioneer is one of the few clubs in Rangoon that stay opened until the wee hours of the morning, around 3am.

My choices for newbies to Rangoon would be;

1. Emperor
2. Pioneer
3. Palace
4. Asia Plaza
5. Channel V
6. JJ

... I've never been to the Park Royal Hotel disco (almost opposite Yuzana Garden Hotel), but there's one report here suggesting that it's a good place to pickup as well. Hope someone checks this out and report back. :)

Wow! Really enjoyed your book, that’s a joke BTW. I can’t believe you took the time to type so much info.

I just finished reading all the posts. Usually I wouldn’t want to read such long posts (mostly we just want details)

But this was great reading. I cannot believe how lucky you were on your last trip. Meeting Ms. A the day you arrive and arranging for her to be a tour guide and companion before you even leave the club or spend the first night with her. The way she helped you negotiating on your behalf. And the fact that she knew everybody and was very outgoing. Everything seemed to flow so well for the 2 of you until the end. Sad ending. Still a great story. I think it would be easier to win a lottery then to have an experience like that.

I also enjoyed your pictures; they fit in nicely and were great quality.

Thanks for taking your time to share.

Thanks for the props, BearMan. I appreciate it.

Yeah, not a day goes by where I don't think about Ms. A for a minute or two.

We exchanged a couple of e-mails, but she started back to University in June and I haven't heard from her since. She asked for a small gift, just some perfume and some photos. I sent them, but have absolutely no idea if packages from the USA ever even make to a Burmese recipient.

Oh, well. I'll just have to wait until next year. Maybe I'll find a rich young Mon lady who wants to keep me in the manner to which I've become accustomed. :-)

I doubt very much that wine would cost that much in Burma. $30 is about 1 months wage for the average white collar worker.

Well for the wine it cost not so much. About 20'000 kyat, that's is 6 or 7 dollar in the shop. Of course in the disco much much more!

For the Hotel go to Panorama, now is 25 dollar, but not extra charge for lady. Not go to asian plaza, they charge every time 10 dollar for every lady u take!

About disco, there are 2 types: in the hotel or just disco (as Palace or Emperor)! Disco in the hotel are expensive: for lady (they aske 40'000 or 50'000...even if u can bargain) and for drink. In the normal disco the entrance, the drinks and lady (20'000 kyat for long or short. They said not difference) are much cheaper and the quality is the same then other place!

Short taxi deplacement about 2'000kyat.

I have found also massage in private house (u have to ask to indian men change monney). Try it, nice and young girls, but not so confortable.

The best change I had (august 2007) is 1 dollar = 3'000 kyat

In Bagan not lady. In Madaly few girls.

This is direct with the hotel and much cheaper than I got through an agent last year. They will also pick you up at the airport for $ 10.00 per vanload.

Toronto,

Yes I am from Canada. Going from Bangkok by Air Asia, they fly every morning early for about $ 100.00 return. They have new 737s, no seat selection. You need to be aware that there is a bagage limit of 30 lbs and you have to pay an excessive overage charge. I just take my clubs and very little clothing in a carryon. Laundry in the Panorama hotel is almost free and same day. The very best airline is EVA go with their Evergreen Deluxe Class, it is a business class seat in economy. Cost is about $ 160.00 return extra. Unfortunately the Deluxe seats sell out over Christmas almost a year in advance.. When I tried to book 2 months ago the latest I could get a Deluxe seat was Dec 6. I am going Air Canada but it is really substandard compared with EVA even economy, Singapore or Cathay. Air Canada's big advantage is they have the closest connections from my prarie home, 24 hours in total each way. The first time I went we had a package from Canada one with 19 days for $ 1700 with time in Bangkok and Pattaya, tours transfers and hotel included, you could extend for very reasonable cost. If I can be of help just ask.

Yes you can rent clubs,we choose not to but they are available. Quality, I don't know but would bet on poor as this is a very poor country. Last year I did make advance reservations on Air Asia and will again this year as when 5 guys are travelling together you would not be happy to be left behind. Air Asia's reservation system is very good, not like Nok. You must have passport name exactly and # but not much more than that. Most welcome!

So, to phone from Yangon to Thailand is it easy?

Many hotels have IDD phones so it is possible to call from Yangon to other countries but the rates are quite expensive. Eg, to call Singapore and Thailand it would be around $5 USD a minute; Australia - $7 USD a minute.

And I presume that nobody can reach you from Thailand to Yangon by phone?

I call people in Myanmar (Burma) frequently but the quality of the connection varies. Sometimes you can get through without any problems, sometimes you may need to dial again after a few minutes. Calling major hotels shouldn't be a problem. The country code is 95 and the area code for Yangon is 1.

Back now from Yangon and wanted to thank those who provided me good quality information which made everything easier. Because I am standing on those shoulders I feel obligated to take the time to do this report. Just to short-circuit the PMs – I have no contact information for the girls in this report – sorry.

Just to fill in the context, I live in Thailand and travelled to Burma with a friend who has been there twice before. On one of those trips he used the services of a guide and we had him around for a part of our time there, but I really do not think that he added real value and my friend was disappointed in his services as well. I do not have his contact information as I would not suggest that you need a guide, or at least one like this guy. Waiters and mama sans speak enough English for you to get your point across. If you look like you know what is going on by having a price range in your mind, negotiation is not too difficult.

Stayed at the Panorama and it was fine, although there is a pretty large difference among some of the rooms. My friend had a room which looked like it had been updated lately, while mine was a bit shop worn but fine nonetheless. There was a bit of a problem getting two rooms with king beds, as they tried to give us both singles initially. For what we paid, the Panorama is well located and fairly priced at $22 dollars. No issue bringing in girls, although they have to sign in at the front desk.

In the area just around the overpass directly in front of the hotel there were some massage dragons at all times, and at one point a gaggle of young things many of whom were quite doable. I was talking to another girl on the street and when they saw I was preoccupied, they wandered off. But I am sure that they were available for a tour of the hotel room, just unsure what the asking price might have been.

I saw one other cutie in front of one of the theatres who made flirty expressions, but I was just at the beginning of my walk through the area and when I returned she was gone.

The first night we went to a couple of places in Chinatown – one is a second floor karaoke place where the girls will sing one song like in Thailand. People would buy a garland for 2,000 kyat (1350 kyat to the USD – only bring grade A 100 dollar bills to get the best rate). Food okay, but no air on the terrace and only half of the fans working, so not too comfortable.
We moved over to the Palace and it was early – 7:30 p.m. on a Friday night, but the selection was top notch. When I sat down I picked two girls to sit with me – small, sweet and sexy. In little time, I had decided that the suggestion that one girl made – pointing to her, me, and her little friend and saying One, Two,Three – was a good plan.

Before too long, the mama san running these two girls came over to talk price. The guide chatted with them and the 35,000 ask pretty quickly became 28,000 (around $20 USD each) and I told him to stop negotiating. I could have surely gotten the price down further, but I had plans for a lot of drilling and I suspected that they were going to earn the 28k. I left early, and later my buddy pulled one for 25k later and lined up another for an afternoon session the next day (both he said were good and the afternoon session showed up on time, so I think that this could be a solution to people who want some daytime action).

My two said that they were 18 and I am pretty sure that they were not any older – firm rubbery bodies, no sag or evidence of children. No babies! Was one of the first things out of their mouths.

Back at the room we had some three way action going for a while, but when it got hotter one retired to the bathroom while her partner took the work. When she came out of the bathroom, I had her come back to the bed where I could play with her perfect breasts for while and before too long she got her first test. This one would provide oral, but Burmese girls tend to shy away from giving blow jobs, although 2/3 of my sample did an adequate job.

I ordered some food from them seeing as we got such an early start and I did not want them to lose strength. After eating, girl number one got her second chance to win my heart – a very tiny, sexy body with just a few strands of hair on a fresh clean pussy. In my limited sample, I would say that the Burmese are a little down the hygiene scale from the Thai women, but just a notch. The best part is that there are no cell phones, few tattoos and piercings and you feel as though you may not be the first guy, but you are not holding number 1,000 either. Girl number two got her second chance later on, and the first girl got another lap in the middle of the night, but no completion on that one.

They both left early in the morning, which was fine with me, as I needed some sleep. In fact, I held their money and the door open to pay them on the way out. The interesting thing was that they brought a change of clothes and they left in such conservative dress they did not look like the same girls. One had a peasant style dress down to the floor and the other looked like a Japanese school girl outfit.

During the day we toured around markets and a pagoda and came back in time for my friend’s afternoon visitor.
That night we met up with another of the guide’s clients – an American from Thailand and his friend from Singapore. After a “get to know each other” dinner, we headed off to JJs for the fashion show. It was packed, and there were some really cute girls, but they seemed to get garlands pretty quickly and ended up sitting with others. The freelancers seemed to me to be less than the Palace girls and it was unbelievably smoky. Not too sure what kind of shit they put in Burmese cigarettes, but it smells like goat.

We got out of JJs with one of us having chosen a freelancer and the rest of us heading to the Music Club in the basement of the Park Royal hotel. Five dollar cover (versus 3,000 kyat at Palace) and the whole place had what one buddy described as a “high class Nana Disco Vibe” and it remind me a bit of Angels in the Nana Hotel. It was a good description even though much more upscale, better lighting and some nicer girls; it was still a bit too much professional for me, so I passed. I can get the same experience in Thailand and was looking for something different.

We visited the big pagoda in the afternoon of day two and it is a must see attraction - really amazing.

The final night we went to 911 and the music was just too much techno at too many decibels. The freelancers were the worst we had seen, so we went across to Emperor. The music was not great there either, so it was back to the Palace.

As soon as we got there, I saw two real cuties and latched onto them for cuddle dolls while we watched the fashion show. Some cute girls, but less than the JJ show, but seemingly attracting less garlands. I was told that both girls were18, but one told me that the other was her 16 year old sister, so I stuck with the 18 year old who had an amazing body and a very nice face. I tipped the younger sister 2,000 kyat and the mama came to me and said $30 dollars for the older sister.

I said 30,000 kyat and ended up giving her 35k after three very satisfying rounds including some capable oral. Had to boot her out as we were leaving for the early flight on Air Asia.

Air Asia was good and cheap (about $85 round trip, all in on one of their many promotions). Panorama was fine, but if I am back soon I am going to try Traders I think. Girls were really good – fresh off the farm so great bodies and good attitudes, but not especially creative technique. I miss being able to talk to them a bit, but I think if you choose older girls you will get more English. I wanted the young firm bodies and was very satisfied with the ones I had. My buddy was equally pleased and we will go back, no doubt.

Not totally clear on the sim card deal – we were quoted 2,100 USD at a phone shop, but that night my taxi driver had a cell phone and his car was worth about 500 bucks. There must be a black market of some sort for sim cards or something.

Again, thanks to the information providers who helped my trip success.

Yes, nice report Biz!! And agree with you ... about the clubs you mentioned. The Palace has been and always will be my favorite pick up place in Rangoon. Many from there are your typical "girl next door" type. Very simple girls looking for a good time (and money of course ;) ) which is what makes Burma mongering unique, in my opinion. A great place for genuine GFE's experiences! :D

Thanks for the report! :)

Biz,

Nice report, thanks. I used to favour JJ over Palace but got a bit upset last trip when they suddenly removed the drink list with prices on it from our table and quoted us around twice the initial prices for the whisky bottles we were interested in. No biggie, we moved on to Palace and it was fine. I sure miss BME2 though.

I'm afraid you got the wrong impression about local taxis though, those wrecks seem to cost around 15000US$.

For 80Ks a mate got himself an 15y old lousy indian berline with air con and more modern cars seem to cost 10times what they do in The West. Quite amazing, and 2000 seems the regular price for a phone and a sim card there.

Traders is OK BTW, if you rent a suite or a regular room in The Traders club floor you have free access to the club lounge, ie unlimited internet access, including wifi from your laptop(!!) 2 hours free booze and, which I apreciate very much, one can call you from overseas and the waiter will bring you the wireless phone where you sit and the connection is clear. Very useful if you still need to keep contact to the more open world.

Traders staff never made an issue with girls but it's still not the most discreete place, hence I might head back to Grand Myahtha or another serviced appartment .

Cheers

Hi,

I plan to travel to Yangon in 15 days and I have seen on TV that there are a lot of demonstrations. Is it really secure to go? What happens exactly?

Hi,I plan to travel to Yangon in 15 days and I have seen on TV that there are a lot of demonstrations. Is it really secure to go? What happens exactly?

There's currently a curfew in place in Yangon and Mandalay between 9pm and 5am. Also public gatherings of more than 5 people are prohibited. It doesn't sound like a fun time to be in Burma at the moment. I'll try and get more info from my contacts in the country.

Guys, I've been informed from a very reliable source that various clubs in Rangoon have been closed. This includes the clubs located at Thein Gyi Ze, eg, Palace, Emperor, Dynasty etc on Shwedagon Pagoda Rd. I don't know about the others but I can imagine the same fate for them as well. Reason given for their closure was the curfew as no one dares to venture out after 7pm. The curfew will be effective for 2 months.

www.irrawaddy.org reports that the Traders Hotel was raided by the military this afternoon and every room was searched for foreign journalists. Not a good time to be in Yangon at the moment.

Just for interest sake, the monks' demonstrations took them down Shwedagon Pagoda Rd to Thein Gyi Ze and right past the Emperor and Palace clubs, as seen in this picture. (http://blogs.news.com.au/heraldsun/andrewbolt/index.php/heraldsun/comments/burmas_saffron_revolution/)

Prince and Frank,

Unless you allready have business visa you may be too late.

My application for a tourist visa in Jakarta was not processed and I was told that no new visas are being issued due to the "political situation". I have no information if this is the situation at other embassies

No time was given for when visas will be issued again.

Given the comments about everything being closed anyway I'm going elsewhere and leaving Myanmar for a better time.

Cheers

A messenger went to collect my passport with the proper tourist visa in it from the Myanmar embassy in Paris today without any special headache except beeing asked to wait in the public stairs outside the embassy's door ( the embassy is actually a large apartment in a private building)

Was planning a couple of days' business trip there but no longer sure with the situation. Might make up my mind next week from BKK.

Anyone knows if the Grand Plaza Park Royal nightclub is still happening as I have seen it open when everywhere else seemed close?

Not sure where to put this report since there is no "Other Areas tread". Maybe this can be an option if you just want to try out Burmese pussies. It happened about 2 weeks ago now, so the situation at the border may have changed.

My original plan was to fly to Yangoon and spend a week in Burma, but I ran short of time, so decided to do the light version since I was in Chiang Mai already. You can cross the border in Mai Sai to Tachelik. There are two options. You can do a day trip as most people do, and pay 5 USD for a one day visa. You can also buy a 14 day visa for 10 USD which I did. This limits you to travel between Tachelik and Mong La at the Chinese border. They will keep your passport and issue you with some kind of travel permit.

So I crossed the border at 8.30 in the morning and was approached by a young guy who spoke good English. Usually I ignore guys like that, but I was a bit in doubt what to do and he came to be very helpful for me. Actually I was damn lucky to meet him. He was very honest and didn’t take any commissions either it seems. Happily accepted the 150 B I gave him the first day and 200 B on my return. First I exchanged some money. There is a black marked money changer on the left hand side of the bridge as you enter. Just pass the bridge and turn 180 degrees and there is a man sitting there at his shop openly changing money. No secrecy about it. It was even a queue. He actually gave me a rate better than the one in Irawaddy.org. But they only take Thai Bath there. No need to bring USD which I exchanged to before I left. In Mong La it’s only Chinese Yuan. So you may need a small amount of Kyat if going to Kyangtong. But not 2000 Bath as I exchanged. I got 1810 Baths for my remaining Kyats 3 days later, at only a marginal lower rate.

So Jeyerr drove to the bus station, which is about 5 km away, on his motorbike. Just missed the 9 o’clock bus to Kyangtong. And no share taxi was ready to leave, so we took a look at some lady houses while waiting. He claimed there are 22 of them and we visited 4. Even at 10 in the morning they had girls available. Seems like going rates for Farangs are 500 ST, 1500 LT at your hotel and 700-800 ST take-away. If you do ST at the spot it will be in the girl room, not very tempting. I was told the girls get half of it. Hope it’s true. I actually booked a girl I liked for LT on my return 2 days later. I had a lunch and a beer at a restaurant where his sister works, for 900 B a month, up to 16 hours a day. But it’s still worth moving from Central Burma.

So the driver managed to get 2 more passengers, and wanted 700 B instead of the regular 500 for a full car. The official buss fare for Farang is 350, so it was worth the extra comfort. Road was paved and quite ok, with a few minor land slides. It’s rainy season. We passed 4 military check-points on the way where I was registered. The same applied for the locals. So they watch every move they make. Just did some trekking in Kyangtong, a rather relaxed town, with a scenic lake. I met only 3 Farangs there, who came by plane from other parts of Burma. One of them remarked they seemed much wealthier in this area, a lot more motorbikes and more people out in the evenings.

When I returned to Tachelik I called Jeyerr to pick me up. You can use Thai mobile in Tachelik. I stayed at Mya Shwe Yee hotel, 600 B with AC. At 8 PM we picked up the girl and they kept her ID at the gate. I did this just to get some Burmese pussy in my collection, and this most have been my worst choice so far. I guess this most be the closest I’ve been to necrophilia. No kissing, no BJ. Just laying there on here back. I fucked here twice just for the hell of it. Then I sent her off. No use keeping here. I could just as well have slept with a bag of rice. She could speak some Thai, no English. But with my limited knowledge there wasn’t much to talk about. So my advise is take a girl who is a bit actively marketing herself at the line up and can speak a few words of English. Houses like this aren’t my cup of tea really, but at least I’ve tried it.

Read from newspaper that Yangon is currently under curfew from 9 PM until 5 AM, so virtually no hanging out at night. Flights have to be re-scheduled to match the curfew accordingly as I just got a call from airlines which I already got my ticket for trip scheduled for late this month.

Is there anyone there to update the currecnt situation?

Heard that internet is also blocked to cut off all contacts with the outside world. Hope things will come back to normal soon..

if its true that sex is the ultimate way to relieve stress then i can think of no better place than yangon at the moment to partake of this therapeutic treatment.

i just returned following two weeks of extreme stress as a stringer (freelance) photographer chronicling the unrest, trauma, and atrocities that have engulfed this otherwise charming city, not to mention quixotic country.

contrary to reports that 'mongering' has dissipated, if not entirely evaporated, my experience(s) should shed a little light of hope that the scene is far more active than what you have been led to believe.

yes, there is a curfew in effect: the day before i flew back to bangkok it was pushed back one hour, it now commences at 10 pm and effectively ends at 4am. however, rather than a dilemma it affords great leverage in discussing time/price, and removes the discretion the girl could otherwise exercise to leave at any time her mood dictates.

every minute past the witching time - 9 pm - when nightclubs, hotel lounges, and bars effectively begin to shut down the women feel increasingly pressured and anxious to accommodate whatever offer is being presented; the dearth of (competing) customers/offers is an additional leverage which for the time being makes for a buyers market. the women are starved for patronage, and the near term prospects for those holding out looks very bleak.

that said, burma women are largely genuine, gentle, and good natured to begin with: few drink, even fewer smoke, most are thoughtful, accomodating, and simple minded. all that i met bent over backwards (pun notwithstanding) to please without the head games, cynicism, and smoke/mirrors charades that have become infamous in other markets.

as the tensions exacerbated daily the accompanying stressors started to corrupt my sleep, it was during an evening of drinking myanmar lager that i decided i was in need of a more thorough detox therapy.

i headed to the park royal (formerly equatorial), a shangri-la property, to check out the music room but upon arrival informed it had been closed. all associated venues at traders had been similarly closed earlier. so i was escorted to the lounge lobby, a small "h" shaped lounge with the bar connecting the two sides. the far side contains a pool table and an area where you can play nintendo's wii video game. on the near side are three tables chock full of a stunning array of yangon's finest pro and semi-pro sw's whose penetrating gazes (though they remain physically restrained given lobby etiquette) make abundantly clear their intentions.

oddly enough i discovered a newspaper rack ( the gov had cut all internet communications) and was so engrossed by 'fresh' outside news i temporarily forgot my raison d'etre. even at $2.50 a beer (they are normally .40) i was in no hurry to engage content to devour the newspapers instead while surrepitiously eyeing the scene making mental notes of the assembled talent, and third parties.

in burma one has to be extremely diligent and cognizant of ones behaviors and conversations especially as it relates to anything relating to government or related topics as the country is rife with informants who are predatory and seemingly omnipresent.

in short i felt uncomfortable enough to abort the first night, but the next i was back with a vengance. in part due to the extreme stress of the days activities but also because of the days activities: namely sharing considerable beers with a source who was relating insights in a long drawn out circumspect manner. by the time i arrived the hotel i was exhausted from drinking and extremely anxious given the time left till curfew started. thanfully the selection process was swift: a fleshy, voluptuous, and dark skinned woman, 24, of indian descent - she smoked which was a turn-off but her buxom appeal carried the moment;a thinner ethnic burmese looking women, 22, though ordinary in appearance had an energetic personality and would be a counterweight to her fleshier colleague, not to mention they were friends which should make for some additional fun.

to hasten the process, and minimize external distractions i booked at room at the hotel ($90 - w/brkfst; i'm told you can get cheaper if book on-line). i went to the room, the two women followed soon thereafter (note: i was assessed a $10 fee for "guests").

while i was content to relax, and watch some tv initially, the two stripped soon after arriving: the fleshier one (kk) was elegantly dressed in silky indian attire and i encouraged her to strip slowly, she wore a corset rather than a bra which i helped her out of, unfortunately more fell out than i had anticipated ! while her breasts were abundant with large creamy dark areoles and succulent nipples, it was the caramelized midsection replete with honeycomb stretch marks and paunch that had me second guessing my intentions. alas, her friend (jj) with her lithe and fragranced body, gymnastic-like flexibility, and unbridled energy quickly helped me regain my equilibrium. i sent kk to the bathroom to gurggle some mouthwash, and jj wasted no time in commencing activity.

she began with a bbbj slowly and rhythmically incrementally applying more and more pressure as she went, then releasing her oral grip before restarting the process. meanwhile kk returned and joined in the fun: two tongues flirting with each other as they simutaneously teased and pleased my aching appendage. both repositioned themselves so their arched backsides were facing me as i lay prone with my head on the pillows allowing me the ambidextrous gameboy pleasure of massaging their honey pots until each was swollen and dripping wet in an exalted state of mutual bliss.

initially kk covered me before straddling me in a crouch while jj positioned herself so that i could continue stimulating her with my tongue while she faced toward kk and cupped her heaving breasts. we rotated with an unspoken choreography so that each person's position afforded a different stimulation. with hbo's "wild hogs" playing in the background our voices were animated though not overly so to attract unwanted attention.

it wasn't long before i discovered the sheer joy of jj: the electricity and intensity coursing through her svelte body whenever i was inside her made my body shiver, coupled with her low moanings and willingness to assume whatever position my imagination could conceive it was apparent that this insurance marker would pay generous dividends all night.

it soon became obvious that i needed food; we ordered out for room service and a pizza ($5), a noodle dish ($5) arrived soon thereafter, however at the time the doorbell rang i was in a frenzied (and exalted) state with jj: with her back against the headboard i was penetrating harder and deeper with each moment, her fingers were nearly embedded in my back as her moans grew deeper and more guttoral; it was the most primal feeling i'd experienced in months; i was not about to stop on account of whoever was at the door. fortunately kk answered (in the dark w/ a towel around her) and settled the bill, while this bit of voyeurism just fueled my aggression as i channeled all the stressors that had accumulated in me the past week into each seismic thrust.

no sooner had kk closed the door jj's writhing body suddenly contorted with intense spasms of electricity, she seemed momentarily posessed as her body clamored to hold on to its ephemeral orgasmic state; it was like witnessing an electric eel writhe as it shocks its prey. my digit felt like it was in a vice grip the lifeblood being squeezed forward until she suddenly collapsed and went limp, temporarily lifeless, but the sudden wetness sheathing my now throbbing member was like a cooling mist on scorched skin.

by this time i was in a zone, if not zen-like state: i reached over and pulled the white towel off kk's body, then bent her over the faux leather desk chair and proceeded to mount her in a heated and rapturous style, sliding my hands under her chest i cupped her engorged breasts in a milking style as i sought release from behind. in doing so, jj had taken to the couch her naked body splayed on the couch, a small towel loosely but carelessly across her body one breast half covered while the other nipple exposed and still aroused, nibbling at the pizza while she watched kk's trembling body shuddering from the unrelenting thrusts i was delivering in my frenetic state.

frustrated at my inability to finish i eased off and released kk's body allowing her to eat. we ate largely in silence, watching the tv and generally rekindling our energies for the next grouping.

suddenly there was a knock at the door; it was now after 11 pm so it had to be either hotel management, or a photographer friend who was also staying at the hotel. i went to answer and was amazed to see 2 more women standing there from the lobby lounge earlier that night.

everyone knew each other, and neither kk or jj looked surprised at their attendance so i ushered them into the room. it wasn't long before all 4 women were naked, and along with i, were sharing the same bed.

to be continued....

(part II of IV)

As if my hunger was merely whetted by the appetizers JJ & KK, it was now going to be fully satiated by the lascivious sexual buffet spread out across the bed; it was like one of those cruise ship buffets where every culinary curiosity and epicurean whimsy is available for unlimited consumption.

The two newest dishes included “X”: 27, diminutive in stature but with oversized attitude and a flair for the dramatic: her elfin body decorated with Maori like tattoos, her Liza Minnelli (who’ve I’ve never particularly found attractive heretofore) face an expressive canvas of eroticism. Belying her size and further enhancing her sexuality X had nearly C-cup breasts, a taut body with an ass so tight it could mint coins. All together she and JJ were like two overcharged electrons that had to be separated to keep from overheating.

Lying between the two was “S”, 25, who in many ways physically mirrored KK: oversized girth though not to the same latitude as KK, generous C-cup breasts with pert nipples, a beautifully trimmed landing strip that while it looked inviting was unfortunately out of service due to monthly maintenance. While S was passive compared to X when aroused and engaged became excitable and sexually animated: she came late to the party but made the most of her time when present.

If there was one negative that diminished the experience it was like with many multiple interludes I’ve participated in SE Asia: the resistance of the girls to interact/engage each other. It’s like performance art where you have to simultaneously be both artist and subject commuting between being “in character” (form) and “in control” (function).

The unspoken choreography that I shared previously with JJ/KK unfortunately didn’t adapt itself naturally to the addition of X & S; it was a minor inconvenience that soon fell by the wayside especially when JJ, X, and I got together; While it seems almost algebraic the result was pure Euclidean.

I began by spooning X from behind fueled by the white hot desire to feel the silky contours of her tight ass against my body, the combination of her wetness and tightness brought me to full attention. The juxtaposition of my stature (I’m 2m tall) and her elfin proportion gave the appearance of one those Anne Geddes’ photos where the tiny subjects appear in pea pods, flower pots, and dressed as honeybees; X’s prone position and her pitched moans immediately charged the air and I reached over and positioned JJ with her CFM expression so that I could perform DATY on JJ while I directed JJ’s mouth to orally stimulate X’s tantalizing breasts with my free hand. Meanwhile S had positioned herself on my backside and was tentatively sliding her body up and down,in order to bring KK into the action I requested that she apply oil to S’s body so that her body slide would elicit a greater response.

I reached a rhythmic cadence with X gliding in-n-out of her peach shaped ass, while JJ’s tongue was rimming X’s now aroused and swollen breasts while moaning herself as my tongue flickered in her honey pot, S recommenced with the BS now oiled with nipples fully erect following KK's oil application; the chorus of moans being elicited by X and JJ respectively only further charged the ambience. Meanwhile KK positioned herself behind S,oiled herself, the two would interchange positions so that each would be giving as well as receiving; I tried to encourage KK to sit on a chair adjacent to the bed for some DIY but she seemed very uncomfortable by this so I suggested the dual oiled BS.

I’m not sure how long this went on for but suffice it say it was pure ecstasy insofar as long as it lasted. It only changed by degrees: I swapped X for JJ and only minutes after DATY on X she let loose with a torrent of liquid running down her leg rolling on her backside quivering like a rainbow trout flush with color brought on by her epic sensory experience. With X temporarily out of action, and feeling the need for something a bit heartier than JJ's waif like figure I brought KK in from her temporary exile.

KK unleashes my feral energies, a detox of the accumulated stressors which have ravaged my emotions lately. She is like a Ford truck - built Ford tough; she is full of literal crevices and figurative nooks to explore during your rugged exploration (and exploitation) of her voluptuous body; she is a Clydesdale while X and JJ are thoroughbreds. S - given her visit from Aunt Flo – was akin to a surrogate though purely an oral one.

I positioned KK on her back (mish) her head on the pillows then had JJ straddle (ds) KK so that her glistening hardwood was positioned just above KK’s full-on Kashmir carpet, meanwhile X kneeled to one side and S positioned herself opposite. As I took one of X’s C-cups into my mouth I gently guided my erect staff into JJ’s dripping honey pot while simultaneously massaging S’s sizeable breasts with my right hand while taking my left hand lubricated with KY and inserting two FUTB into KK; I felt like the tantric embodiment of Shiva.

KK responded to this stimulation immediately: her back quickly arched, her large breasts pressing against JJ’s chest positioned just above her while JJ herself was swooning from my swollen cock inside her; KK in her frenzied state reached out and clutched S who was nearest her pulling her backwards and out of my reach. Seeing KK’s reaction I momentarily pulled away from X, and withdrew my fingers from KK. Using the lubrication from the left hand I transferred some to the right, then reinserted my right fingers back into KK while doing the same to X who was now lying on the bed with her feet against my chest and her little man with a mohawk was staring up at me. The reaction: I’ve never before heard such a primal chorus of erotically inspired angst as both KK and X reacted to this penetration with equal parts fear and fascination.

All the while I was still inside JJ though by now she could no longer support herself and had collapsed onto KK both of who were writhing from their respective sensory experiences.

I transitioned from JJ to KK shortly thereafter, temporarily using DP on KK eventually settling on mish with KK while redirecting my energies toward a finger DP on X.To see the site of X pinned to the bed as if by invisible hands, her breasts inflamed and flush with color was enough to help me achieve my first happy ending of the night; I used the opportunity to COB of S so she wouldn’t feel left out of the festivities.

Part III & IV to follow soon.

i’d like to report that the troop’s motivation levels sustained themselves until i could reload and rejoin the playing field but alas without a field general to assume leadership and bolster morale their enthusiasm and efforts disintegrated very quickly. s arose to wash herself while x made ready to leave for their room they had secured for the night down the hall. and to be honest i was grateful for the respite: it was nearly 2 am, i was knackered from the both the day’s activities as well as the night’s intense exercise, and there was another morning session was just a few hours removed.

i slept well bunkered between kk & jj who slept on either side; twice in the early morning hours x called the room asking to speak with jj. i begun to sense that x was sort of an unspoken mamasan/advisor to these group of women who afforded her a certain amount of deference. the second time she called i hung up, as if to confirm my suspicion shortly thereafter x was knocking at the door. upon opening she marched straight into the room and plopped herself on the couch as though it were her office; s was nowhere to be seen, nor was she ever referred to again even when it came time for compensation.

while jj & kk deferred to her i almost demand she leave until i ventured to suggest she strip and rejoin us if she was going to apparently loiter in the room. and she did just that: another session entailed much like the previous ones had though at a much lower intensity level. when completed i entertained each of them individually, in fact by the time i was ready for kk she had already completely dressed and was casually sitting on the couch smoking a cigarette. as if to punish her for such a transgression i demanded she strip and join me for one last session; to her credit she complied without so much as an exasperated glance. several local expat/mongers had shared with me that burmese women still treat a man’s word/request with an almost subservient reverence; their malleable personalities are certainly reflective of this insightful bon mot.

alas, my morning cup of coffee was taken with jj on the couch where she achieved me achieve this act of morning glory in the cowgirl position. and with that final movement my tensions had all but vanished; i was seemingly ready for whatever the military had in mind come hell or high water and their seething tempers.

first however i had to negotiate with the three jezebel’s who had performances had greatly exceeded my (lowered) expectations.

the going rate for an “average” sw in burma depends in part on the locale where the introduction is made, or so i was informed by the aforementioned expats. in many clubs, bars, and similar venues one can secure services (lt) for a range $12 - $20. i was told the women at the park expected a minimum of $30 upwards to as much as $70+. whether by oversight or good fortune the price was never discussed until the completion of services rendered.

when i queried of them how much they expected to their credit they didn’t discount themselves: kk requested $70 while jj sought $100 though x jumped in and said the three would settle for $250 total. again, s was never mentioned during the balance of negotiations.

a broad smile spread across my face as i studied their poker faces; i patiently explained to x that while i enjoyed her “bonus” service and participation i would have discount her compensation to reflect the fact she was only present for a fraction of the overall experience. amazingly she responded with full recognition but shrewdly took over negotiations from kk/jj so as to secure a percentage of their compensation.

after some awkward but overall agreeable negotiations we finally settled on $70 for the trio: $30 each for jj/kk, and $10 for x. whether that is how the final split was divvyed up i’m not certain but in one final act of settlement i slipped $10 each into each of kk and jj’s purses when they went to freshen up so that if in fact x took a larger cut than i had foreseen at least their split would still approximate the agreed upon amount.

in some ways i felt that they felt aggrieved and perhaps slighted by a perception of being overly stingy, jj offered as example the last customer she had was a japanese client who parted with $125, however i wasn’t going to skewer the market rate with that as a single precedent.

so it came as a surprise two days later when i heard from an expat who knew x that she relayed to him that the girls felt bad they had not done enough to please me, and that they sensed i had not been fully satiated, and that they felt sorry for me.

god bless burmese women.

one final note: while i did take some video during the session i ended up deleting it a day later; the environment in yangon, and my purpose for being there, was very sensitive. especially toward the latter part of my stay after the events took a violent turn, and the military's action became outwardly hostile; i was consistently in danger of having all my equipment either spot searched, or worse confirep001ed. [the authorities did a sweep of every room at the traders hotel searching for foreign media and seizing all suspicious equipment]. while being caught with protest images could be explained away as partly happenstance if it came to that, (graphic) images of sex with local women are never easily explained and only treble the degree of difficulty one may face when trying to extract themselves from such situations. i trust readers of this report will understand, if not empathize, with my decision.

part iv: i go in search of burmese fashion shows where the girls “audition” to curry your favor.

Guys, just a brief interlude from Mackay33's excellent reports!!

My contacts on the ground in Burma advises that the clubs are opened again, :D albeit with early and closing times. The Palace and Emperor Clubs now open at 5pm and close at 9pm. The curfew apparently is still in place between the hours of 10 pm and 5 am. So you have an hour to get back to the hotel from closing time. My contacts however reports that supply of ladies at these clubs are quite low and not in great numbers as before. Hope things will pick up again soon.

... now back to Mackay33 :)

I believe the curfew has now been lifted and the clubs are operating again. My contacts who work at the clubs haven't been able to contact me by email though because the Internet has been down since last week. Will update when I hear more.

I was in Yangon a couple of weeks ago, life there seemed mostly back to normal except that internet went off again two days before Gambari's second visit.

JJ, Asian Plaza and Palace were all open. Unfortunate I was in such a rush though, will try and spend a couple of more relaxing days with Yangon's fauna just before Xmas.

I will be back in Yangoon 14th 15th and 16th of December anyone want to have a beer?Just got back from Yangon last week. Spend 5 days in Yangon and visited Music Club. Same old ladies.. to be honest, I am quite sick of the life there. Any other place of excitement? Language has always been a barrier and not to mention, what you get in bed is totally different from what you see at the bar. Guess you guys know what I mean.

Anyway, life is back to normal. Lots of kachima girls in COCO KTV.. for the locals.

I was at the Palace and Emperor just two nights ago. It's business as usual. Many people think the bomb was planted by the government to give them more reason to control the people.

Will post a report soon.

Planning to visit Myanmar for a week or two in february. Will be visiting the usual touristy sites in Myanmar. Wondering weather one could have any mongering entertainment in places like Bagan, Inle and Mandalay.

Any information regarding the hotels to stay and the places to visit (for evening time activities !!) in these cities will be highly appreciated.

Is it possible to hire and taxi and drive from Bagan to Mandalay and then to Inle ? How much it might cost ?

SunnyHi,

The places like Bagan, Inle and mandalay you will not find any place to entertain you. yes, it is possible to hire a taxi. but we hire taxi from bagan to inle lake, stop overnight at Kalaw and then Inle. that is a nice trip actually. That was last year when i travelled with friends.

The Asian Plaza was back in business the first part of December. The disco down stairs on the side of the hotel had working girls. The disco was not very busy and the girls seemed hungry. I was able to score for 20US for all night. Sorry no pictures. The girls were not that hot but doable.
If you walk out the front door of the Asian Plaza, facing the river, turn right go to the street that runs besides the hotel turn right again 50 meters on the right down the stairs is where I found the girls. I did not see any street girls anywhere in the city and I walked around quite a bit.
I stayed at the Panorama and there was nothing there or in front. I had no trouble bringing girls back 2 nights. The rooms were very reasonable 17 US per night.
Not really a great mongering destination but got another pin in the map.

Hi Batman

Thanks for your report, although I'm afraid you missed quite a bit on Yangon.

There are a few places like Asia Plaza which are busy, JJ beeing the largest one , and while you definetely can't compare them with their counterparts in most advanced cities, Pioneer and BME1 are western style nightclubs opening late at night. It's not dificult in any of those clubs to pull 2 girls, or 4 if you're up for it. I wished they had fairer and better skin but girls are rather young in RGN and sometimes quite fun - or submissive.

I don't know about the places where girls hang out at day time but people living in Yangon will know and house delivery does work wonders. Some local friends had 4 girls coming to my hotel room for selection in the afternoon within half an hour on the last trip there, which was great as I could be more focused on partying when going out later - and for some reason over the couple of years it's in Yangon i've had the wildest parties.

Note as well that in BME1, which is somewhat isolated in the heart of the upmarket residential Golden Valley, you don't need to endure te whole way back to your hotel with the girl. Very next door you can get a room for 15000 Kts, so it's really a matter of minutes untill you're back with your mates downing some more of the dirt cheap Gin and slapping a few more asses.

Collecting a new visa on monday BTW, hope business will be good enough next week so i have a reason to pop up in Yangon on the way to HKG later this month.

Spent 5 days with a friend (both end 50 Europeans) in January in Yangon with mixed results. On the way from the Airport the taxidriver asked us if we needed some girls and proposed us to come to the hotel a night with them at no cost to look. He came in time, but with an Indian looking gentleman, whom he called the boss. His girls were outside in 2 cars. We entered in the cars, drove 500m only and enterd a bright lit normal drinking place. Instead of 4 girls there were only 3 and a Mamasan. Therefore 3 management people and 3 very young looking girls.

As European girls definitly under 16, which we did not like for different reasons. Prices were told 40 Dollars/night. We disliked the so called boss and declined the offer as possibly dangerous (possibly a staged police encounter.) We gave the girls 5 Dollars each and 10 Dollar for the taxis. Strange experience.

As it was Saturday night we went to the disco at the Plaza hotel, a large, darkish place in the basement. To our surprise there was a big fashion show going on all the time, which we watched with pleasure. Around the bar were some ladies standing which smiled to us as available, but we prefred first the show. After 10 minutes sitting a very good looking girl came to us and asked if she could take a seat with us. We invited her because she spoke good English which is rare in Burma. She was also a model, explained us the system and did not ask for a drink (Only later for a cheap beer)

The models work in 3 groups of about 15 to 20 girls, they are not paid a salary but get half the money from presents offered to them by customers (flowers etc of plastic) A cheap present is 8 Dollar and a better one 16 Dollars (20000Kyats) Later she asked for a present, which we offerd her. As she worked until 1and half hour after midnight, it was too late to ask her to come to our hotel. She also had to go home. Therefore I asked her to come two days later at 6. 00 before her work as model at 9. 30 would start. To my joy and surprise she agreed to come. I still was not sure if she would really show up, she also had not asked for any money. She came in time as agreed. Had a super body 36 inch, 24inch to 36 inch. Truly super and all 100% nature as I could feel and as she told me proudly. She was enthousiastic in bed, good BBBJ and longtime action (of course with condom) We were so happy that I asked her to come again next day earlier, which she did. I gave her 50 Dollar, which she deserved and is good money in Myanmar, especially as she had no management fees to pay to anybody. I had really won the lucky number. Other places in Myanmar seem to be too difficult (nothing on in Bagan nor Mandalay) to find.

i was in myanmar for almost two weeks earlier this month exploring both the mongering and the touristic aspects.

i'm probably viewing the experience with some first-time novelty affecting my judgment, but i did have a very enjoyable time and hope to return someday. i find the people (political leadership excepted) to be kind and gracious, the food delicious, the street life interesting (yes, it's very noisy) and the cost quite affordable.

i spent 4 nights in yangon, 5 in bagan and a further 3 in yangon. yangon lodging was in the panorama where i had a suite (double) for us$38 per night. nice room: clean, well equipped and well serviced. i do wish the furniture in the lounge area were a little better but at the price given can't complain. still, a small two person seat in lieu of 2 of the wicker chairs would be much more conducive to snuggling with the yizar d'jour.

on my first night in yangon i wandered over to emperor. got there a little early and there weren't many customers or girls around but that turned out to be ok. for a while i was beset by some gals who were a bit on the hefty side, something that does not appeal to me at all. but after a while some more girls wandered in and i connected with a cute young one who, as things would turn out was my companion of choice throughout my time in yangon. she was cute, slim, loads of fun (despite the language barrier) and had the most perfect set of c-cups i have ever beheld -- full, soft and gravity defying. and a snatch so tight it was almost problematic.

one night when we were coming out of emperor the police busted the place -- apparently with tourism down supplemental payments to the police have been also down and they're squeezing the establishments harder. it was not a pretty sight with them being very rough on the locals. we were just out of the club when it all went down so were not faced with any direct contact with the plod, but we got outa the area as quickly as possible. the high speed taxi escape was a bit breathtaking.

one morning at the panorama breakfast i ran into a guy who was there with his two buddies and had a great time hanging out and running with them. one of the things he introduced me to was a beauty shop/massage parlor named monalizar that was just down and around the corner from panorama. nothing dodgy going on in this site; just a good traditional massage and clean up. first they put you down on the table and set up a waterproof barrier around your neck before proceeding with a thorough shampoo, scalp massage and ear cleaning. then on to a body wipe-down with a cool towelette followed by a complete body massage.

one of the girls there really liked my hair (according to what a bi-lingual guy there shared with me) and thought i was very handsome. seemed like she put a bit more care and tenderness into the message but i could be imagining things. an unbelievable bargain at 4000k for 1 hour.

the second time i went, things went a bit longer and i got a sample of burmese arithmetic. according to their reckoning if 1 hour is 4000k, 2 hours is 5000k (?!). maybe you get money back at three hours ...

i had moo moo from under bridge outside panorama a couple of times too. we got on really well and she gives a very nice message.

we went to kyaw music pub one night for dinner and to see the show. the house band had a young burmese gal playing guitar who was very, very good. coulda played studio in la in my opinion. very accomplished with flawless technique on a knock-off stratocaster.

bagan is an amazing place and well deserving of its reputation. a bit difficult to get around and the taxi guys ask high prices, but given the sights, it's more or less worth it. doesn't seem to be any mongering opportunities but i do believe i saw two hook-ups happen between locals while i sat in some of the tea shops of the area. it's not clear to me whether bringing a girlfriend along from yangon would have been well-received. anybody know anything about that?

i really liked a lot of the food -- the curries are a bit oily for my taste, but no problems with them. in fact, despite eating on the street throughout my stay in yangon, i only got sick once and that was from a restaurant in bagan at lunchtime.

as i said in the beginning, i really liked the place and i hope to return.

my most sincere thanks to the members here who have provided info and guidance that were so useful in doing this trip.

I am taking a long break in Apr and decide to take a longer trip into interior Myanmar. Planning to visit Mandalay, Bagan, Inle Lake, maybe Mrauk U, and some sidetrips to Mt Popa and Golden Rock ect as long as my energy last, I will try to make a big round in Myanmar.

I will take a colleague a portion of the trip and be alone rest of the trip, and won't have sex emphasis on the itenerary, but will look for these beautiful unspoiled entities that will arouse my compassion whenever I go.

I like to ask the Myanmar experts. Is it cheaper to arrange all these domestic air tickets once in Yangon? and is there any particular travel agency that you reccommend. There are tons of websites of Myanmar travel agents on the net and do not know which one has better price on domestic airfares.

Costwise, it is almost the same for getting Myanmar domestic tickets in Bangkok or have it arranged in Myanmar. From my experience the difference is 2-3 USD / sector of flight.

One thing good about pre-arranged trip is it saves you hassle having to do so in Myanmar which may take up half day or so. Also, if it's done through travel agency in Myanmar it saves you money and time. They can book hotel for you at good rate and meet you there to hand you the tickets & hotel voucher and you pay them (cash only!) on the spot. They do take only new banknotes though so do not bring well circulated banknotes as you may be refused for using such notes.

I had been using a company call Pearl Nadi which is quite good. They have website at :

They had been helpful to assist me in planning my trips. I booked Panorama Hotel through them many times as well as other hotels plus all air tickets. You can give them a try.

Report back about your journey should you have any interesting happening!

ThanksOS,

I know it sounds strange, but I have no idea what her name was. And I'd wager she doesn't know mine either. Such as it was with the language barrier.

I was giving her 20,000 + 3000 for cabfare.

There were lots in Emperor just as cute -- in particular look for the slim Indian gal with the fluorescent eye shadow. Highly recommended by a guy I met. (assuming that's something that appeals to you).

Not sure why Asian men prefer fair skin beauties but, fair enough, we all have our different tastes. And it's encouraging when another monger recommends the services of a girl because finding a starfish in bed is a real turn-off for me.

Well, this girl may not even be aware of it, but if she's the only one that wears this fluorescent eye shadow, she may be marketing herself unintentionally by being easy to spot.

Thanks for the infos for the domestic tickets. I have e-mailed some agencies in Yangon for quotes, and the price is almost the same for domestic tickets, at most a few dollars difference. They told me its very quiet now so no problem getting a ticket a day before.

I found out there are also some agencies in Singapore that will arrange the Myanmar domestic tickets, the price is also about the same as to buy in Myanmar for the major sectors like between Yangon, Bangan, Mandalay ect. . So getting the tickets overseas or in Myanmar is basically the same pricewise, maybe a few dollars cheaper inside. No issue then.

I will be going some time in Apr. I think I go from Singapore instead of BKK. Will report anything interesting when I go adventures in upcountries Myanmar.

I was there 2 weeks ago; went to Emperor after 11:00 pm from Pioneer where it was mostly packed with local youngsters enjoying themselves in groups. Not seeing that many WGs in Pioneer, so I left for Emperor which was disaster - so empty with just a few girls; thus left after finishing my drink. To make the things even worse, I found that the entrance was closed so elevator could not be reached and had to walk into the parking lot and walk down the round and round road until ground floor. Should have learnt before on arriving there early.

As I didn't feel like spending the night alone, so I went to the familiar scene of Asia Plaza basement where many girls I know are there. Not particularly impressive on the night but do-able. Those who hang around me seemed to be eager to go out and finally struck the deal for 30 USD LT.

One thing to mention about the hotel which I changed to Central Hotel as recommended by the travel agency. The room here is newer and nicer than Panorama where I normally stay. Same room rate @ 25 USD but only found out that night upon bringing the girl upstair that 10 USD will be charged to my account for the joiner fee; so ended up 10 USD more expensive than Panorama. But as I said, it's better room and it's more centrally located, just next to Traders Hotel and 2 minutes walk to the Scott Market...

I was wondering if the Myanmar embassy in Cambodia also issued Myanmar visas. I was supposed to visit Rangoon last year but canceled my trip because of the fuel protests. This year I fly to bangkok on 12/04 which is during Songkran so the Myanmar embassy in bangkok will be closed for a few days.Burmese also celebrate Songkran. Songkran days are the official holidays in Burmese calender and Burmese embassies all over the world will be closed during Songkran.

Yes, that's correct, although the Burmese call it "Thingyan" .. the dates for Thingyan usually corresspond to the same dates as Songkran in Thailand (plus or minus 1 day).

I was there 2 weeks ago; went to Emperor after 11:00 pm from Pioneer where it was mostly packed with local youngsters enjoying themselves in groups. Not seeing that many WGs in Pioneer, so I left for Emperor which was disaster - so empty with just a few girls; thus left after finishing my drink. ..

Saint Jack, that's because Emperor closes around 12am .. yep, I know that's early but .... Pioneer on the other hand closes around 3am. You may have better luck at Pioneer around closing time.

Euro, Yen, Singpaore Dollar, Thai Baht are exchangable in Yangon, but spread of the rate maybe bigger than USD.

As Cactus says, bring only fresh new banknotes; or else you maybe declined for transaction.

I think if not too large amount then it's possible to change at the hotel but not sure about the rate if they would pay the market rate.

Saint Jack the rate at the hotels is very poor compared to jewlery shops or Traders Hotel. At Traders you go to the doorman and very descretely suggest you wish to change some money. The transaction will take place in the lobby descretly.

Bogyoke Market: 1050

I would recommend if staying there be extra careful over verifying the girls age (I usually ask reception wherever I'm staying to confirm her age if I'm in any doubt at all) and if under 18, like a certain slim indian girl with fluorescent eye shadow, I wouldn't take back there.

Don't know if the NY embassy issues visas or not. I had to use the DC embassy. I'm in LA.

You shoud go onto the Myanmar embassy web site to check. There you can download the forms you need. There is an application you must fill out, along with an employment history form you must fill out. You need three (?) passport-sized photos. You must have a passport with at least 6 months remaining. The visa fee was around $25, but it may be more now.

You'll receive back a full-page stamp in your passport, alond with the entry form stapled in. You give the entry form to the security guy when you arrive at the RGN airport. Touris visa is good for 4 weeks.

Hi, I'm from New York

ThanksI'd start with a google search

As already stated the Washington DC embassy is the one that issues visas:
United States of America - Washington D.C..
ADDRESS : 2300, S STREET, N.W, WASHINGTON D.C.20008
TEL NO : (202) 332-9044, 332-9049, 332-9045
FACSIMILE : (202) 332-9046

Website: http://www.mewashingtondc.com/visas_passports.htm

It's also possible to get a 'kind of' visa on arrival but you need to give your info 3-4 weeks in advance, again a google search or possibly a trawl of the lonely planet forums will provide uptodate info.

Be aware that Burma isn't really a party place and certainly isn't somewhere I'd travel long haul just to monger.

Mayday means that if you're looking for a place to party, drink, screw, etc., then you may be happier in Thailand, or someplace. Myanmar is a whole different ballgame.

Unless your Burmese is pretty good, I doubt you'll get a girl for that length of time for that kind of money. The ones who are fairly proficient in English, have something of an education and would interesting enough to hang out with for 25 days are gonna cost more.

Not sure about that one. I've lived several years in Thailand and still go there very often for business and got a bit jaded with the scene. I do also go quite a bit to RGN for work and over the last couple of years have had most fun there. Also feel much safer in Yangon when I'm drunk and acting slightly crazy, which is quite often there.

I don't remember seeing anything like the warning posters mentionned in a lift or elsewhere in Yangon but if you want to feel very relax, head to a serviced apartment, which are more discreete. Grand Myathia has good large 2BR terrace suites and you can fit a lot of girls and mates in there for all night orgies. Nobody care IME. Only two of those terrace rooms available though, and I most often stay in Traders' suites, which are smaller but offer better service, especially with their executive floor.

Yangon is a weird and exciting city, probably worth a long haul flight to discover it, and from there anyway you are only one hour flight from BKK.

"Where are all those uniformed people who are always ready to beat civilians?" said one man, who refused to be identified for fear of retribution. "They should come out in full force and help clean up the areas and restore electricity."

Why did they have to quote that man twice in the same article? Way too politically motivated information IMO but Yangon must be even more of a mess than usual.

Reminds me about Traders, the hotel already has about 4 floors reserved to UN staff with a dedicated lift and they might take advantage of the situation to squatt more of the place. Even tougher to get a decent suite there I'm afraid. Anyway they might have something to do with the warning posters, and possibly Traders is not the best hotel at the moment to bring the youngest girls, although locals have much more important issues to worry about.

that wire service article was very sloppily written.

the news this morning is that anywhere from 4,000 to 10,000 people are dead. yangon is without electricity, although that, in itself, is nothing new. it just sounds worse. the delta region seems hardest hit.

you know the u.n. and other ngos are going to take advantage.

i've seen pix of the posters in question. they're sponsored by some feminist ngo. but i have absolutely no love for ****s and they deserve what they get. also, you have to be six kinds of stupid to go to a foreign country and start running around with girls who even look too young.

oh, another story this am quotes the u.s. embassy in yangon as stating that they have a rapid response team ready and waiting to assist, but that the myanmar gov't won't allow them to proceed. typical.

The Associated Press reports:
May 10, 6:40 AM EDT

Myanmar junta hands out aid boxes with generals' names

YANGON, Myanmar (AP) -- Myanmar's military regime distributed international aid Saturday but plastered the boxes with the names of top generals in an apparent effort to turn the relief effort for last week's devastating cyclone into a propaganda exercise.

--------

We'd always known that the ruling junta cared little for the people Myanmar whom they hold captive. But impeding aid in this time of tremendous suffering and then manipulating it into a propaganda act goes beyond cruel.

Sheer depravity, I say. They are no better than the Khmer Rouge. It's most troubling that we, the people of the world, have allowed them (and those like them) to persist for so long.

We need to send two planes:

1 full of food

1 full of US Marines with orders to protect the food from the junta.

The food WILL get to its final destination. And who knows, we may even be able to oust a ridiculous tin-pot military dictatorship that is willing to starve a massive section of its populous to maintain junta control.

Why should we let the idiots of the world prevent us from being generous and kind to those in desperate need?

Just had a conversation with a friend in Yangon to update what the city is like right now.

Officially it was reported 1,200 persons dies in Yangon but could be more. The Scott market was closed the past week and just got back to business early this week.

Electricity is still out for most of the city so people have to depend on their own generator (if they do own one and can find petrol to fill it)

Telephone line is being restalled in some area so things are gradually getting back to work but far from normal.

All necessity in life is much scarcer than before so price jumped up 4-5 times. So those who are poor get even harder to get what they need.

I feel sorry for the people and feel like contributing something for them but have doubt if the donation will reach those in need.

I've been able to call by telephone a few contacts in Rangoon since the cyclone hit. It's quite a dire situation for many there since there is still no electricity in many places in Rangoon. As a result, many shops and businesses can not function and those lucky enough to have a job before the cyclone now have no income for the time being. This includes the WG's, by the way, .. my favorite mongering places at Thein Gyi Ze (Palace, Emperor etc) have been closed since the cyclone. I hope to make a visit there soon.

Please allow me to re-phrase your question so that I might pose what I believe is the answer. You essentially ask:

"Why do we let others prevent us from being generous and kind to those in desperate need?"

I believe the answer lies in the fact that doing so would greatly [CodeWord140] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord140) off a country that holds a trillion or more of our dollars. It would be quite easy for them to use those in a way that would have a severe impact on our already fragile economy. Although we may rail about the obvious mis-management of the crisis in Myanmar we are, in fact, hamstrung by our own mismanagement of our fiscal affairs.

Just my humble and possibly ill-informred opinion.

In Yangon at the moment on a very short visit, quite a lot a damage still visible in the centre mostly to roofs but it's getting repaired, lots of trees blown over and cut down.

Took a trip on the circular train, more damage apparent a few minutes out of the centre, lots of tarpaulins and makeshift repairs. Obviously this is in the poorer sections of town.

As far as I can tell most businesses are back to normal, Emporor & Palace both open and busy. No reasons to put anyone off visiting.

Thanks,

SJVisa was no problem (tourist), issued in 3 days from posting to receiving from London. It may have helped that I already had other Myanmar visas in my passport, not sure. I've been told Bangkok Embassy is more difficult now.

Having spoken to some more people, seen pics & videos - situation outside Rangoon is dire - there almost no help getting through, livestock all but wiped out, nothing to fish with, etc. Really, really desperate.

The airport, which should be buzzing with aid planes/helicopters was quiet, saw one USAF plane (with decals partly painted over) delivering.

From a poster at the front of the British Embassy (this is paraphrased):

Local NGO's need you to help with providing the following:

Transport - trucks
Fuel
Tarpaulins
Construction Materials
Water Containers
MONEY (their capitals)
Expertise - medical, engineering, fundraising
Soap
Toiletries
Toys
Bedding
Clothing
(contact details from this poster in attachment)

There was also a list of aid agencies with local presence together with their phone numbers outside the embassy, so if in doubt load up and call some of them.

Thank you for the update, may I ask how the recent cyclone had affected the cost of living in Myanmar now?

SJAs far as I could tell it was as normal (previous visit there was 2 months ago). However, I'm obviously not buying staples, but a dish is a restaurant that was 2k kyat before still is.

I was only in Yangon which I suppose can receive supplies from anywhere. Some friends were struggling, though I don't know anyone who's desperately poor.

Others I've spoken to have travelled further down the delta and report that with most of the livestock dead and fishing boats destroyed, life is almost impossible.

Hotels, taxis, etc. Same as before, though the booking agency I normally use have had problems retrieving emails so didn't kick in with their discounted rate until the last night.

Couple of girls in Emperor who really shouldn't have been there (including one who (now out of it) was an expensive night. Soft bastard that I am) but pretty much the usual crowd.. I laugh at people in Thailand who do this but heho.

One bright spot that I noticed was the USAF plane I mentioned previously was unloading directly onto UN badged trucks so maybe some aid is going where it's needed.

I think this recovery will take quite a while even if Yangon is, on the surface, back to normal.

Prices for the girls are the same as well, taxis and food are all about the same prices as 6 months ago. Entrance fee at Palace has gone up from 2500 kyat to 3000 kyat ... no big deal (equates to 50 cents increase).

Yes the Panorama is exceptionally guest friendly, the bellboys will bring girls up for you to choose from. It is well located, the breakfast is very good and the staff is wonderful. Rooms are fine for $ 35.00 US and there is a mama pimp right out front. Have only been once but it is the only place I would stay.

Cactus JMy experience with the Panorama aligns with everything CactusJ says. It's a great place for the monger. I would only add that it is well worth it to spend the little bit extra and get a suite instead of a room. Much nicer and not that much more money: in Feb 08 I had one for a week at $38/night.

Just got back from Burma and visited the usual places .. Emperor and Palace. Entrance fee at Palace has gone up from 2500 kyat to 3000 kyat ... no big deal (equates to 50 cents increase).

Pioneer club at Yuzana Garden Hotel is closed.Guys,

I will visit Yangon for the first time. I have only 3 days and you can help by giving me tips and directions.

Can you give me directions to get to the clubs? I will be staying at the Panorama hotel.

What do I do, do I take a cab or can I walk to Palace or Emperor or Zone or BM1/2?

Almost right behind the Panorama is a club in a hotel basement good choice, 3000 entrance fee and 1 free beer can't remember the name , my friend and I were the only white guys in the club that nite. Go right at the Pamorama exit and right at the first intersection, then right at the next street. It is just down that street a short way 100m or less. A cab to the others is real cheap a couple of dollars.

http://www.dpsmap.com/yangon/yangon_map_15.shtml

Panorama is towards the top right on Pansodan St, Palace/Emperor/some others are towards centre left on Shwe Dagon Pagoda road. Asia Plaza is to the right of Panorama.

10-15 minutes walk or 1000-1500 in a taxi.

If you want to eat while watching fashion show/singing then further down Pansodan St is Emperor beer station/KTV and opposite Palace is Lion World & one other (both on the 1st floor).

Couple of unmentioned hotels that I've heard good reports about:

Eastern Hotel http://www.myanmareasternhotel.com/ - similar standard to Panorama but only $15/night. This place has a $5 joiner fee.

K Paradise Hotel http://www.hotelkparadise.com/index.htm - had a couple of (working) girls telling me this was a good place to stay - from the website it looks as if they may have girls available on site. Around $30/night, has a pool and rooms have balconies.

Hi,

I sent two email at the panorama hotel but I still have not received any responce.

I start to think that I have the wrong email address.

The one I've been using is:

panorama@mptmail.net.mm

Is there another email I can use? If not, do you think is risky to just go there and try for a room (I'm going in Rangoon around the first of November)?

Thanks

ThanksIt's not the same address as stated on their website - http://www.panoramaygn.com/

I've not had a problem getting a room the couple times I've just turned up.

Worth noting than hotels in Burma are usually cheaper if booked through a travel agent.

I didn't monger on my last trip but understand that more girls are holding out for 30k than before (previously 20k was pretty standard).
If you take a girl who works for a mamasan in say Emperor and agree 20k then she will get 9k, agree 30 and she will get 13k.
The club in Grand Plaza (now called Park Royal Hotel) is Music Club - I found it pretty dire.

Most mongering places are already mentioned on the forum, Palace, JJ's ...
A few of the Beer Stations have fashion shows/singers who are available.

Some of the above mentioned have uni students earning extra cash.

Approx exchange rate can be gotten from irrawaddy.org , I'd reckon on 1220-40/$

I wonder how is BME2 now. will find out.

If 30k is for the normal lady in Emperor, so I presumed price also went up for those models girls in emperor....last time they want 30 to 45 k I think now should be highier.

BME2 has been closed for a couple of years now. Don't think they're opened again but would love to be wrong. Many of the girls who used to hang out in BME2 still work in Yangon's nighlife, many in BME1.

I stayed at the Panorama during my recent foray into Yangon
(report here: http://www.internationalsexguide.info/forum/showpost.php?p=806781&postcount=113). Approximate time of price quotes is early October, 2008.

I was unable to book via any of the email addresses or websites posted in the forum.
A friend called them direct, from Bangkok - they quoted $45USD per night, Superior Double. Quoted rack rates are extremely high.

Prior to leaving, I printed out some email from Peace House Travel
http://www.lodgingmyanmar.com/panorama.html
that quoted me a rate of $25USD/night for Superior Double. As they had some funky credit card processing method, I abstained.

When I arrived, I talked to the airport travel counter - they quoted me $32/night for Superior Double. I showed them the mail from Peace House (above), and negotiated them down to $26/night, 4 nights.

I stayed in yangon, went travelling, then returned to the Panorama for 1 night due to an AirAsia flight in the morning. I booked this last night through Good News Travels, listed as the preferred travel agent in the 2005 Lonely Planet, located in FMI Center next to Scott market, walking distance from Panorama.
http://www.myanmargoodnewstravel.com/
Price: $22USD/night, Superior Double.

I thus recommend Good News Travels. As I didn't try and book from outside of Yangon, I cannot attest to their responsiveness via Email/web.

Finally confirmed that BME2 already closed and I was taking by the cab driver to BME1 which is no match to BME2 in terms of the location but also crowded with a lots of nice and cute chicks. prices I learned they are asking 40 k or sometime asking for 20k for a one shots upstairs. I wonder if the hotle beside it is for ST.

I saw a realy young and cute chicks but seems to be she is not there for p4p or is it possible that these girls are likely to be some group just went there for fun? it sound not convincing to me. any advises?

MDNow, BME is local night club. Beside hotel is short time hotel. Almost girl go BME for fun. But you handsome, you have chance. If you not handsome or can not speak myanmar, very difficult to go together pretty girl in your hotel.

I go yangon almost every month. I feel that girl price same or slighy higher.

But very pretty girl is crazy expensive. I heard this month asia plaza model said that 100 to 200 US dollar, even if some crazy girl said 500 US to my friend.

After an excellent week in Pattaya with a lovely girl named nueng I decide to visit burma.

I got a flight with airasia a low cost company based in Malaysia, price of 5000 bath and new comfortable planes, for the visa I had that done in Bangkok via my travel agent in Pattaya.

The cost of the visa was 2100 bath, for the visa to be delivered in 3 days (for some unknown problems I had it delivered after 6).

At the airport in yangoon I got a taxi for 7 dollars to my hotel.

For my stay I choose the easternhotel, the rooms are quite big with aircon and tv with satellite and a fridge, the only problem is that all the room have big single bad (two per room) so if you want to sleep with a girl it's possible, but could be a bituncomfortable, the price for the room is only 15 dollars a night, no problem for guest, but you have to pay an extra 5 dollars the next day, and the girls are required to leave their id with the hotel.

The first impression of the city is very disappointing. The town is poor dirty and all seems to be run down.

As for the girls there are as many as you want, but they are nothing like the ones in Thailand. They all seems a bit too shy, most do not do blow jobs and in bed they just do not perform like in Thailand or many other Asian country.

The fist nigh I went to check the action in the place most mentioned in this board: the palace and emperor. They are both in the same building but on different floors. From my hotel it's a 15 minute walk or a 5 minute with the taxi (3000kay. One dollars is about 1200 kay).

I first checked the palace, entrance fee 3000 but that include a free drink. I went at about 9 pm and there were about 10 girls dancing or sitting around, I was the only foreigner and there were about 10 other customers. The music is not too bad but the so called fashion show isdreadful, just few girls that never smile showing some dresses.

As soon as I sat down a couple of girls joined me and we start to chat. One of the girl never said too much but the other was very cute and chatty, her name was sis, 19 yo and with nice body. The price quoted was 30000 for all night. As I was a bithorny and she was very cute I decide to go with her.

In the room she was a bit shy and she did not wanted to shower together or even strip in front of me.

In bed she was not very responsive and, no blow job, no anal. Basically she just lay on the bed and wait for all of it to be over.

Not a very good experience.

Next day I decide to see what the many pimps around the area had to offer. One of the pimps outside the palace suggest to me to follow him to a nearby shop where he would phone someone and bring some girls to check, he say the price would be 25000 plus 3000 for his service.

I agreed and follow him, as promise after the phone call and 5 minute wait two girls arrived accompanied by yet another pimp.

The problem is that the girls appeared way to young and one looked more like 12 or 13 than over the legal age, I like young girls but not that young and I did not fancy an holiday in aBurma jail. I asked for their age but they seems not to understand me, they spoke absolutely no English. I tyry to get their I. D to no veil, while I was trying to get their age one of th two girl (the yanger one) appeared not to want to be there at all, she never smile, never look up to me and she constantly hide behind the pimp, the other girl appeared more willing but still looked about 15. Few minute after they arrived another potential customer arrived and the pimp literally punched one of the girl on her back to go and talk to the other man! After seeing this and not wanted to spend the night with a girl that is forced to be with me by somescum bag I left there and then.

The first pimp wanting to make money from me at any cost suggest me to try the girls sited under the bridge near the building where the palace is situated.

I notice the girls the night before, sited there, drinking tea but I did not think they were for the taking. One of the girl seems very cute and well over the legal age (around 25) but again none of them seems to speak anyEnglish, and as soon as I try to talk to her about 4 man arrived to discuss the price (make me wonder how many people make money on them and how much money sheactually get at the end of the day! )

Again the girl did not smile at me and did not seems to enjoy being there or being chosen, as the one that I liked was sitting down and I wanted t see her body I ask if she could stand up, but one of the pimps thought that I wanted to take her and immediately show me to a taxi standing by telling me to go to my hotel and wait for the girl! It sound really doggie. After all of this I decide to goback to the safety of the palace.

The girl I had the night before was busy with a man so I decide to sit down for a bit and check what else was on offer. A nice girl soon approaches, her name islil, 19 and really cute, with nice breast and a very nice ass. She ask for 40k but immediately go down to 30k.

In the hotel she is like the other a bit shy and no blow job. Sex is nothing special. After this I decide to go to mandalay to see a little bit more of the country but the situation did not change much. The north is even worst than yangoon. In mandalay there seems to be no girls at all.

Last year I stayed in Rangoon for about 1 week. MGM Hotel, not bad for 10 USD. Then I caught a severe cold and I had to return to Thailand for treatment. I had a massage at Olympic Hotel before. Very good, cheap and so many extremely pretty and slim brown young girls, just as I like them! You can chose (the girls are waiting in a separate room and the manager opens the door a little bit, for looking), but you have to wear a pyjama during the "session". The door of the "private" room, where you receive the massage has to remain open. My massager did not speak any English. I tried to convince her, to come to my hotel and give me a private massage there, using sign language and writing down my room number. As far as I understood: she cannot go outside, only to a room at Olympic Hotel, but I was not sure about it. She said something about a "Happy Birthday Present". At the moment I thought she just had her birthday on that day and wanted an extra tip, which I gave her, of course. Later on I realized, that maybe "Happy Birthday Present" was the only English phrase she knew and that she wanted some more money for extras, if I booked a room at Olympic hotel. Maybe I was really a fool. Has anyone experiences with the Olympic Hotel massage parlour?

Has anyone experiences with the Olympic Hotel massage parlour?Extras are rumored to be available in the Olympic, but since you mentioned that that this establishment actually keeps the door open, I very much doubt it. It sounds the same to Summer Palace Massaage to me. If MPs is your thing I can recommend the following Oil Massage places:

Executive Massage @ Grand MeYaHta Hotel
20K for 90 minutes session. 5K to 10K tip for HJ, and 15K to 20K tip for FS.

Orchid Massage @ Kandawgyi Hotel (not Bayoke Hotel)

25 FEC for 90 minutes session, and the usual tipping for extras. If prepaid coupons are used the rate is 20 FEC (100 FEC worth of coupons should be bought). The room is extremely private and the girls will help you with the shower after the massage. Well worth the money even without extras.

Shwe Gon Ding Spa @Hotel Shwe Gon Dine

20K for 90 Minutes includes help during shower. (fully clothed, in case you are thinking something else).

Hotel Nikko
25FEC 90 Minutes. Never tried it, but HJ would be offered at the minimum

The Spa @ Espace Avenir
22K for 90 Min.

Will write detailed reporting later as I am a huge fan of MPs and Barbar Shop type massage joints.

Just got back from 1 week in Yangon. For some reason I fell asleep early every evening and just went out once but had never seen Yangon so busy with foreigners, especially caucasian ones. Emperor was packed, we were very early in JJ and it seemed business as usual there, lot of people in Park Royal, and after I went to bed mate moved to BME1 and reckoned it was very crowded as well. Didn't notice anygirl worth to fight my sleepiness but definetely busy.

Yes it's definetely high tourist season but I've been to Yangon before at this period and it wasn't that busy. Lot of UN and NGO staff as well, who don't seem hurried to leave now the generals let them in. Whereas local business partners had a disastrous year Traders is doing great, with rooms still getting more expensive. But it seems many tourists are visiting Yangon as well, more than usual. Had a great time there, though not involving much sex.

Went to Le Planteur for lunch on my last day and we were the only customers there... maybe some of you guys should have a try if you ever tire of dusty and dirty chinatown.

This report is about some days I spent in Yangon in january 2009.

Logistic, direct experiences and (personal) advices.

First of all, watch you currency. It is not true you can change dollars easily at Boyoke Market. It is not true that Euro is not accepted in Myanmar.
Euro is more then welcome and everybody kept asking me wether or not I had euros.
But all changers are a rip off, and I mean "all".
For a hundred dollar note they give you back some 100 note of 1000 kyat. They are very clever magicians and they count them under your watchful eyes. Once you are back to hotel, try to count them again and you will realize you have only 70 instead.
First time I was ripped off, second time I realized that and I was very careful, noway, they did it again. Third time I went with a spring and first of all I tied the bunch of notes and then counted them. When I was back to hotel, 70 notes in my pocket. You better change at your hotel desk counter, they will give you a little less, but they cannot rip you off and at last, you will get more. I asked to both hotels, they also accept euro without any problem. Also people in Bagan accept euros, hotels, restaurants, even horse drivers. You better have dollars up the mountains, Heho zone is a dollar only region.

I spent some nights at Eastern Hotel wich is very far away from any action, I mean it, very very far away. It is a half an hour walk just to get to Panorama hotel, and I walk fast.
Eastern was very nice and cheap, they charged me 5 dollars/night for the girl.
15+5 made a 20 dollar room, didn't worth. Long way better Panorama where I moved later. The 30 dollars room is nice and They did not charge me anything for the girl I brought in. And they have a decent breakfast wich I cannot say about Eastern hotel.

Taxi drivers are an hassle, they do not know the city, they do not understand you. It is preatty straightforward go back and forth from airport, maybe is the only word they understand, i.e. "airport". It is easy to take a taxy from Palace entertainment to your hotel, provided the girl knows your hotel, she will talk to the taxi driver and even guides him trough the process of driving to the right street. But when you are alone, you will very often end to wrong places.

My advice is, go to Panorama, it is very close to main action, just 10 minutes walk and go by feet as much as you can. You must reserve in advance, even low season, it is usually fully booked,I think because is the best value hotel in town. Reserve with their website, it works fine.
You MUST take a taxy from your preferred club to hotel, even if you are just a short hop away, even a single block, because girls do not want, and CANNOT, walk with you on the streets.

Beer stations,massage parlors, beauty salons.

Once I read on this forum a "just down and around the corner from panorama there is a massage parlor Monalizar". Noway to find it, and I didn't find any type of massage parlor in Yangon.
Beer stations are quite fun. They have dim lights you cannot really see nothing. Small lights like a couple of candles, but they are very nice to have a dinner and a bier. I have been to the two on Pansodan street. It is not clear how things work. Apparently, the girls of the fashion show (wich is a very rough and short walk in the middle of the station) get seated to a table after the show, like they were invited. They go there with their basket of suites used for the show, and spend sometime, like half an hour, with their hosts, then they fly away. I didn't see any doable stuff anyway.
Zero Zone station, on the rooftop of building right in front of palace and empereror entertainment, is a nice place to have dinner. A girl of the fashion show came to my table and talked with me. She had a quite good english because she was Univ student, electronic engineer, she said. Quite unuseful task, she will never use her skills. Education for women is a waste of time and a waste of money. As a woman in Asia, sooner or later she will find a man who will put her in a pregnant state, from then on, she will have to take care of babies, as should be for any woman in a right world as it is still Asia. Anyway, she quits in few minutes (maybe because I told this to her).

Street action
Very simple chapter: none. None in front of Panorama, anytime. There were 3 policemen standing still all time long, even night time. I asked to the counter at Panorama, they told me I could find right in front of the hotel under the bridge, but there was none out there. I told them and show them the empty road. They did not comment.
3 days at Panorama, I didn't see any mamasan out there, any papasan, any free lance, anybody.
Once I was walking evening time along the cinema strip on Boyoke market street, a girl look at me when we cross one each other and look at me back when we were passed by, as I did. This was the only sign of something. But I cannot say it was a possible action, maybe she just look at me because I was stranger or wierd for her.
Then, there is no evidence of any street action going on in Yangon.

Clubs
Here you go. I went 2 of them: Palace and Asia Plaza Club. It is very fun the 2 are exactly the same. Same space, some furniture, same lights, but NOT same females.
First of all I must say: first time at Palace I found a gem who made me cum almost countinuosly while we were toghether and I was not willing to find any other one. This is why I didn't even get in emperor "just to see". I went to Asia Plaza because on my way from Eastern hotel. They ask 5 dollars to get in, wich I didn't like, 5000 kyat it's big money in Myanmar. It was very nice and big satisfaction answering to a nice woman there, who asked me 40 dollars: "you do not have such high value". In fact, I think ANY woman on earth do not have such high value for just a fuck. Maybe they can find someone who pay even more, this doesn't mean it is the right value. The value is made by market. In the market there are fools who pay banana like diamond, this doesn't make bananas diamonds.
It was nice to see her face down. Maybe she expected I bargain someway but I didn't. I do believe sometime it's important to behave this way, give them a moral hit. As every woman in the world, sooner or later they will get spoiled but excess of selfishness. At Asia Plaza I didn't see any better girl you couldn't find at Palace for a lower price anyway.

Thank you very much for the detailed and updated report about Yangoon. I will be travelling to Myanmar this year and will certainly use your advise. I have been there twice in the recent years. The only thing I may add is that I never had problems when changing money in Scotts market. Having said this I took my time and its taking time to count each and any note. Still the rate of exchange is that better there, I will use the market again.

It is preatty straightforward go back and forth from airport, maybe is the only word they understand, I. E.

You must reserve in advance, even low season, it is usually fully booked, I think because is the best value hotel in town. Reserve with their website, it works fine.

You MUST take a taxy from your preferred club to hotel, even if you are just a short hop away, even a single block, because girls do not want, and CANNOT, walk with you on the streets.

Beer stations, massage parlors, beauty salons.
