Iching, can you give us a list of your favorite spots and the lowdown on some of the new venues that have opened lately. Would appreciate an insiders opinion.

I'll be catching a bus from Saigon to PP tomorrow, I'm just wondering whats the preferred currency? I have USD, VND and some THB. Should I exchange for local money or workout prices with what I have?

I'll be staying at New York Hotel for 2 nights. Can you get FS in the massage parlour or is it only in your hotel room?

Its my first time travelling to Cambodia, unfortunately my vietnamese wife will be tagging along as she wants to have a look and go shopping. Are there any places to visit (appart from the usual tourist places like temples etc etc) I was thinking about going to the rifle range and go karting and buying local handycrafts. (Yes I know this is a mongering forum, not a damn lonley planet holiday guide) The prices for shooting guns are pretty exp, same price in VN.

I had a good read of this thread and know of some places NOT to bring the wife to.

Hopefully I'll be able to drop her off somewhere and I'll go do some "shopping" on my own.

The police have recently started to crackdown on a numbers of bars and have recently started to check that the girls are "correctly" dressed i.e. wearing a bra and pants. Also a number of bars have been raided to check on the age of the girls.

Well went around a few hostie bar & KTV places near sisowath quay, mainly around 138, 118, 110 and 104 streets. Don't know if any were new but from my last trip there seemed to be a few more.

Just wish that these owners train these girls better as hosties as it really is off putting to be hammered by 6-8 girls all begging for a $3 drink. I normally like to sit around for a few minutes and then pick out the one I like!

Also a few of the bars had 'no drugs' and '"no barfines' signs, it was metioned that the cops are clamping down at the P4P scene. At bar 104 a girl was willing to go but asked for $100 LT which made choke and leave.

I still like Cambodia there`s lots more bars that have opened in PP and still a lot cheaper than Thailand. I LOVE PHNOM PENH.
How much cheaper than Thailand? Can you give some comparisons?

How much cheaper than Thailand? Can you give some comparisons?

Thailand: You think about how much it costs.

Cambodia: You only think about how much it costs if you're paying too much.

But in terms of development, Thailand is like being in a highly developed society compared to Cambodia, which has about as much organisation as an open sewer. Think about the environment you are comfy with. Cambodia does demand a rather more adventurous spirit, I think.

Just US dollars.

How much cheaper than Thailand? Can you give some comparisons?Hotels, alcohol, barfines about 30-50% cheaper

Girls from $5-$15 ST, $15-25 LT in Thailand about $15-30/50 ST, $30-75 LT, don't forget the barfines $10, in TH $15-30 in Thailand. Quality and service much better though in Thailand IMO!

Have fun, be careful out there!

I think the overall cost PP vs BKK is about 40% cheaper here, but this is a third world country with not a lot to do in the day time, if you included visa cost and expensive air fare to get here not such a big bargin , I think you should give it a try but PP is not for everyone, I been to PP twice no sure if I will come back here again.

Thanks for that Christopherd.

I'm in Newyork hotel atm. The wifi is a bit dodgey, I can connect but get problems getting onto the net and my messengers not connecting.

This morning I got the net working.

I took a massage upstairs 7th floor. The massuests look like they are left with no place left to go. All washed up looking. I took one gal about a 4/10. got a massage but she kept pestering me for boom boom. she wanted usd$50 for 2 shots!

I told her I can go to riverside or pick up a girl for usd$15 st who is much younger, better body and looking than you. She still wanted $50. She was very annoying about it but lucky it was a decent massage.

For those living in PP or visiting for awhile. What's the current cost of a mototaxi ride these days. I mean what the locals pay and not what they try to milk the tourist prices.
Last time I was in PP , it was 2000r for a short ride during the day and 3000-4000r for longer rides and at nite.
Thanks

Decent hotel- Same as pattaya.
Food - I found more expensive because of dollar currency and most of the decent food can be found only in good restaurents.
In Pattaya any restaurent, even the hole in the wall places serve
good food and cheaper prices.
Drinks- Same as Pattaya.
Travel - Same if you use moto compared to tuk tuk.
Buses are very cheap also.
Sightseeing- Entry to angkor wat is expensive.
Girlie bars- There is no pressure to buy drinks for girls. Barfine was $7.
St was $15-$20, Lt was $25-$30
Freelancers- St $10-$15 LT- $20-$25. No Need to buy them drinks.
Cambo girls hardly drink anyway.
Scam factor- Watch the check carefully before paying. They tend to pad it
up and pocket the money.
Pimps promise and may deliver bad girls. I never tried.
GFE- Like everywhere else depends on the girl.

The rumour i heard is that the Cambodian government have restricted the amount of vietnamse woman they let into the country after K11.

It would be interesting if any mongers know the story here.Honestly, I don't understand what you mean. The large majority of Vietnamese people in Cambodia are still illegal for a while. If a viet want to cross the vietnam/Cambodian he or she just has to paid highly corrupted immigration officer, nothing else.

Channy,

Never say forever as long as newbie are bring here by moto driver on comisson and there are money to be make they will be in business but not in the open.

Fast eddie 48Yes Fast Eddie, it s true, Never said never. But 63 street ever in her golden age never closed fully, it s the favourite place for khmer guys in need of cheap viet girls. Ever during major carckdown brothels quickly re-opened with back entrance.(these place make too much money for not tempted corrupt cops) since 2006 many local brothels don t accepted barang. For pimps: barang=ngo problems=more money for cops (because barang are supposed to far more than khmer guy)

Some Brothels will accepted barang just in the goal to robbed them.

Which make me smile in this report.; is girls near Sorya mall, at the crossroad with street 154, don t suffered about this crackdown.; so strange. Probably because they are khmer, and the crackdown once again targeted only viet.

Cheers

Last 30 days the nightlife in PP has changed.

Bleu Lagoon on str 108 is closed coz of some hand bar dancing and the owner arrested/

Bar in str 104 got a warning coz they dont stick the new clsoing time (midnight). The Pure Bar is closed by the owners coz they were scared to be arrested by the police. Some bikini dancing took place at the back of the bar.

Str 136

Iris Bar closed by the police and the korean owners arrested.

Chearleaders bar (owned by 2 english guys) closed by the police and they owners arrested. One is released (some big money transfer).

Theary Bar (owned by a german) got a warning and they will change into a restaurant or maybe relocate to Sihanoukville.

Oasis bar is scared and will turn into a restaurant starting tomorrow.
Great Palm Bar closed by the owner.

Str 51

Shanghai Bar got a warning as well. The girls there wear now some kind of school uniform.

Dollhouse is closed by the owner and will reopen as a restaurant. The girls working there take a rest now in Sihanoukville.

Walkabout almost no girls. All girls are scared.

Current situation.

Most bars dont have customers and almost no hostesses. No dancing at all. All laps removed in the bars.

Barfine is not there anymore. Illegal according to Cambodia law (pimping).

Welcome to PP and happy mongering

I'm only gone less than a year and the shit hit the fan. There is almost no reason for a return visit later this year as most options are eliminated.
Are there any news if the local brothels on st 154 and touk K are affected?
and also Mikado and LeCyr.?

Welcome to PP and happy mongeringCan this be true? Is the Cambodian government going insane? I was in Phnom Penh just this last March and I thought the scene was great and the girls so nice. How could these fascists pull this shit. I immediately had to listen to Bob Marley’s' classic song 'Burnin' and Lootin' with the opening lines "This morning I woke up in a curfew. Oh God, I was a prisoner too".

I planned on returning to PP this February. But if this Govt. lock down remains in force looks like I will be heading down to Pattaya instead. I will be more than ok, but I feel sorry for the girls and the bar owners. What BS.

Hey guys - because I am thinking about trip to Cambo - I have read reports of many bars being closed due to a crackdown.

Which is true:

1. Nearly all P4P is shutdown.

2. Only the P4P for farangs is shut down.

3. Only the viet providers have been shut down, the khymer poontang is still for sale?

Are their still freelancers walking about or are they shut down too?

Does the shutdown only apply to PP or to all of Cambo?

Should I forget it?

Just had the one night and had nothing big planned but headed over to Rose Bar to find lots and lots of girls 'working' there. Some cute, some not so cute but mostly fun girls.

Got chatting to a couple of girls, and as I got more and more drunk I got liberal with the girlie drinks. Bought about 5 in all at $3 dollars each. At midnight I found out one of the girls was not even working that night but had just come in for some fun. She wanted to leave so took her back to my hotel (flamingos), with no mention of cash. Anyway, she stripped off and it was obvious she had a baby but body was still good. Not a bad fuck either. At about 1.30 she got a phone call from her 'sister' who needed some 'help' so she had to leave. She promised to come back later but I didn't believe that.

Fell asleep and at 2.30 there was a knock at the door. Open it to see her again and the other cute girl from the bar! Had a fun night fucking the pair of them and once again in the morning. They didn't do anything to each other but were very attentive to me. (as per usual with Khmers, there was no BJ)

In the morning I gave them $30 between them and said my goodbyes. They never asked for money and seemed happy with what they got.

Was in Phnom Penh over the last weekend
Freelancers were very much around in Walkabout. Quality though average.
LT cost was $25

Next day barfined a good looking/stacked babe from Happy Man bar near the riverside. Bar fine was $5 and $20 for the babe for ST- 2hours. Could have had an allnighter for $25 maybe but decided not to as I had an early morning flight back to Singapore.

Safety is in taking them to your hotel and not using outside lodgings.
Stayed at Flamingo's which takes care of one quite well. They also call up the room when the girl leaves to ensure everything is allright.

Ok, there were previous reports of all doom and gloom in PP, but according to some new reports not all venues are affected. So maybe safe to say "party on" but perhaps not in all places as before the crackdown- or am I wrong with this assumption?

If thats true, then it is a sign that perhaps
1)some bars were not paying off their proper "bribes" with the police and other officials.
2)could be NGO pressure behind this and police had to crackdown on some to make it seem they are doing their jobs.

I will continue to monitor things. Pattaya is my back up plan. So even though I have already purchased a non refundable Bangkok Airways roundtrip ticket, if it appears that my favorite bars are under siege, there is no way I will get on the plane. I’ll take a taxi to Pattaya and not give it a further thought. Roll right stone!

Well sorry guys but let me tell you from someone that lives here and visits the hostess bars a couple of times a week.

They have all been affected. Nearly all the bars except maybe two have removed the tinting from the windows on the front doors or glass. All the girls have been directed not to dress sexily. This includes the big three Sharky Martini and Walkabout.

In most of the hostess bars the number of girls has been slashed and it wasnt the fatter older uglier girls either. There are about 3 bars that have kept up the numbers of girls.

Another question was is it affecting places other than Phnom Penh. The answer is definitly Yes. There have been raids in Siem Reap, Palin, and in Snooky. I have heard some very disturbing news about the level of security in Snooky as well.

I know it all sounds doom and gloom but this is first hand experience as of this week or you could listen to a moto who is not allowed in any of these bars.

Im not saying dont come just make sure you have much lower expectations than before. You wont find sexy dressed girls dancing on bars. The vibe in the bars is now very low key.

All they'll do is push it back underground which will lead to a return of child prostitution and enforced sex slavery. They'll also find that the 'honourable' mongerers who aren't interested in fucking women held against their will or kids will head to other destinations so their economy will suffer.

I swear, the people driving this crackdown need to pull their heads out of the sand and get an understanding of how the real world works.

NGO's are a weird group to begin with as they all try to save the world and convert the world to their ideal image. They will try to STOP the sex industry anyway they can. Ever notice all those nice Lexus cars/SUV, alot of them are donated by NGO groups to local officials to help clean our fun up. They don't care if its forced underground and to them there is no such thing as an "honorable monger", to them we are all criminals as our hobby is sinful.

I swear, the people driving this crackdown need to pull their heads out of the sand and get an understanding of how the real world works. It’s worse than this AF. In a worldwide depression, “the people running the show” in Cambodia have decided to clamp down on a significant source of hard currency and GDP. Tourism brings billions of dollars (Euros) into the country. This foreign revenue stream flows into hotels, restaurants, shops, construction, transportation and bars which employ thousands of Cambodians and thus into the homes of ordinary citizens.

Now I am willing to concede that the sex industry may be an embarrassment, unnecessary and even counterproductive in a place like Siem Reap where millions of “culture” tourists go every year. But Phnom Penh is a different story. There is very little reason for an ordinary tourist to visit PP. The city may benefit a little due to its proximity to Angkor Wat from the curious and adventure seeking tourist, but let’s face it, the city does not have much to offer average tourists. A visit of one or two days more than suffices. International business men and foreign government officials would constitute the only other foreign group visiting the capital.

Thus it is visitors like us, 'honorable' mongerers’ that make up a significant percentage of the tourist economy in PP. And in the worst international economic downturn since the 1930’s, the brilliant leaders in Cambodia have decided to tell “us” not to come. Ok. I know when I am not welcome. As I said in my last post, “I will continue to monitor things. Pattaya is my back up plan. If it appears that my favorite bars are under siege, there is no way I will get on the plane. I’ll take a taxi to Pattaya and not give it a further thought.”

It ain’t no big deal to me, nor to anyone else reading this post. But the net effect of turning off this foreign source of capital is a big deal to the citizens of Phnom Penh. That’s why I don’t think the crackdown will last. But who can say? This issue may have more to do with national pride than economics. Only time will tell. Too bad. Sad.

1. You might think that "honorable mongerers" contribute a lot of money to the economy. But thats not right. Cambodia is more dependent on the money from NGO's and Western governments. And those parties dont like what was going on in PP and because those parties are in the process of evaluating their support to Cambodia for next year (deadline end of September) the government decided to show them that they are dealing with the "problem".

2. Especially for street 136 a new luxe appartment hotel has been build there owned by Khmers with a good network and as the rumour goes those Kmers dont like the hostess bars there mainly visited by Barangs.

3. Cambodia is not Thailand. No US soldiers went overhere in the 70-ties to release their tension. Values are different. And if the bar owners try to stretch the limits too much they get into problems.

4. Not only hostess bars targetting for barangs are hit. Also FL's around What Phnom, brothels aiming for locals in several other cities are hit.

So IMHO it has all to do with economics on a macro level and nothing to do with national pride or economics on a micro level.

Will it last? Who knows?

By the way Snooky is not hit at the moment.

While I think our team does make a sizable contribution to the local economy, it pales in comparison and influence to the currency and aid flowing from NGO's and 1st world Governments. This influence, although it is assumed to be well intentioned, many times backfires in lesser developed countries and only benefits the ruling elites.

We can only hope things get back to normal after the September deadline you mentioned.Amen brother. I booked a trip for November some time ago so will be traveling to Cambodia whether mongering is readily available or not. There's plenty to see in the country but whether or not to return will be based partly on how enjoyable my nights are.

it is more complex than that.

1. you might think that "honorable mongerers" contribute a lot of money to the economy. but thats not right. cambodia is more dependent on the money from ngo's and western governments. and those parties don't like what was going on in pp and because those parties are in the process of evaluating their support to cambodia for next year (deadline end of september) the government decided to show them that they are dealing with the "problem".

2. especially for street 136 a new luxe appartment hotel has been build there owned by khmers with a good network and as the rumour goes those kmers don't like the hostess bars there mainly visited by barangs.

3. cambodia is not thailand. no us soldiers went overhere in the 70-ties to release their tension. values are different. and if the bar owners try to stretch the limits too much they get into problems.

4. not only hostess bars targetting for barangs are hit. also fl's around what phnom, brothels aiming for locals in several other cities are hit.

so imho it has all to do with economics on a macro level and nothing to do with national pride or economics on a micro level.

will it last? who knows?

by the way snooky is not hit at the moment.you re right on many point.

1 khmer don t appreciate barang bar scene, also entire part of phnom penh like the strip bar will be "erased". the economic slowdown has just stop temporary the mall project.

2) most of the bars owner are "new barang" few of them live in cambodia from more than 2 years, so they the strech the limt simply because they don t know the limits and the culture of the country

i will not follow on one point. if the khmer governement is very dependant of ngo money and international help (especially with the economic slowdown) the khmer government has no interest to solved the problem. if they solved the problem the money will not come anymore. yes like you said they show they treated the problem but in reality they "cultivated "the situation in their advantage. it s exactly the same with ngo. ngo volunteer is a job. a well paid job at 2000/3000 us dollars per month, with car, house. people from ngo has also no interest to see the end of the prostitution scene. simply because if the scene disappear, most of them will lost their good job.

so last events was a big show.organised by khmer government and ngo to impressed their donators

just a sentence from a khmer report movie "the paper cannot wraped embers " from the khmer producer rithy pahn.; a young hooker at "the building" had sister with infected by aids. and she got not support from ngo saying: "here ngo if you have aids. they don t give you medication, they just paid the coffin" coffin= look how many people die from aids in this poor country please donate

medications to cure aids= waste of money. how to show this to your donator for they give you more money? . useless.; a death people is more profitable.; simply ngo way of thinking.

Living in Snooky

Hey Broko, Had to add this on this thread as I was unable to PM you.

since you're the man in Snooky, do you know if its possible now to rent motobikes in Snooky without having to get the Cambodian drivers licence, as I heard they will detain /heavy fine your rental bike without the license if stopped.
Friend of mine wanted to know as he plan to be there in early Nov. He's not a ISG member yet but I'm working on that.

I have read this forum with a lot of interest for many years. I have also traveled to Cambodia many times during these years. My first trip to Cambodia was in 1993 and at that time the country was in turmoil from the Khmere Rouge activities that were in their final end stages. The country was crawling with UN troops at that time. Back then I did not have the ISG to guide me and I did not carouse the city to search for venues, I just asked the hotel person to get me a girl. They always brought them no problem. Then one of my friends who is Cambodian introduced me to some people who knew where to find girls. These were always some shacks near the edge of PP where a mama would have 3-4 girls available. Most of these were new fresh recruites so they were not very experienced or good at what they did.
I was able to meet the private secretary of Norodom Raddarith who was the Prime Minister at that time. He took me and my Cambodian friend on a tour of the countryside in Cambodia and one of the stops that we made, were to a river house that served as a restarant and brothel. It was a floating structure and there were two little rooms for doing the deed. Cost was .1 Girls were mostly Viet's. As we traveled through the countryside it was easy to see that girls were available at every town we came too and my Cambodian host was sure to point this out to me.
I have returned to Cambodia about every three years since that first visit and with the help of the ISG I have seen so many changes over time. One thing that I can say with confidence is that there will always be girls offered for sex there. Maybe the atmosphere will change as I have already seen it change from my first visit, but it will always be there. It is in the Cambodian culture and will never go away. This is also seen in most other Asian countries I have visited so it is a Asian thing and is firmly rooted in their society.
All things undergo change and so there should not be a surprise that this subject will also change. Some will like it as they found it when they first came there, and these individuals may be unhappy with the change. I also miss Sophies etc. but I still look for new places to get excited about. I have had a lot of fun with some beer girls, karoke girls and massage girls. I try to stay away from the regular monger hangouts because I have found them to be less that what I consider good hunting places. In these places, all of the girls know the drill and they all are adept at manipulating us in one way or another.

In most of the hostess bars the number of girls has been slashed and it wasnt the fatter older uglier girls either. There are about 3 bars that have kept up the numbers of girls. Thanks, Shadow

It sounds like the police are saying "Prostitution is OK, just not in great quantity"

This is either...

a) A show of force to appease the NGO's

b) A way to drive up prices (by reducing supply).

Still a lively scene in PP, I enjoy the Happy Man Bar and 136 Bar. There is a girl in 136 called Yen Ok she has a little too much around the waist but she enjoys sex just as much as she enjoys the money and will leave you exhusted in the morning.

Hello all,

I have gained and used wisdom from this board several times. This trip I will be in Phnom Penh for a week and thought I'd stay 4 nights at Flamingo then 4 nights more layback at L'Imprevu a bit out of town in Kien Svay. I can find info on the hotel but not what is nearby such as nightlife or friendly bars. I will be travelling alone but do not plan to stay alone. So does anyone know about L'Imprevu and the area?

Thanks for your help.

PTIf you're from the U.S., for $15 and two 2"x2" passport photos you can get an international drivers license which is valid for 1 year and many countries including Cambodia. It's always a safe bet.

http://www.aaa.com/vacation/idpapplc.html

If you're from another country, you could search Google to see if or where you can get one in your country. I'd assume it's available because the U.S. application says this before listing valid countries:

"Geographical Areas Which Honor International Driving Permits (Convention on Road Traffic, United Nations, Geneva 1949) as of January, 2009"

Hi.

My info is somewhat sketchy.

I was in Sharkey last night sharing pickup venues with a fellow monger. He mention a place that begins with the letter "P" maybe Promogade2 not very sure. The girls coming there look very pretty.

Anyways, he mention This is strictly a Freelancer joint where the girls come in and always dress in a nice short dress. No jeans. They negotiate the price.

Prices can be had for $20-25 (but negotiable).

He said if you see a girl in Hearts wearing a nice dress, she probably came from this place earlier in the evening.

On a good weekend night there can be 40-50 Freelancers working there.

Unfortunately, I cannot remember the name but most motorbike drivers would know the place if mentioned.

Does anyone have an Idea?

Thanks.

I will just said that Cambodian scene in phnom penh and siem reap and others town has change mainly under the influence of NGO, and after with the flux of farang from Thailand (more thai style bar and less brothels, negative girls attitude, more greedy cops asking for tea money)

The scene in Thailand has not change so much compare with Cambodia. In my case, like you, I don't care because I go to bar for meeting people, not for taking girl. The old mongering scene has not totally disappear.

Ps just think about your chance to meet and became friend with high rank civil servant now?

Just read this (take from free and excellent bayon pearnik magazine) and you will undertand why now barang scene are clearly targeted for more money of course, but also for lack of connection inside politician and army, barang customers are too precious, so nothing against them for the moment

Bar owners please read the two Cambodian Laws below: Law on Suppression of the Kidnapping and Trafficking of Hu m a and P e are s o and s a and d Exploitation of Human Persons. Article. 4.. Shall be deemed to be a brothel. Keeper or a pimp whoever:

Assists or p rotects one or many persons, by whatever means, with knowledge before the assistance or protection, of the prostitution of that person or persons, or solicits clients for him/her or them for the purpose of prostitution; or regularly shares the profits derived from the prostitution, in whatever form; or trains or coaxes, by whatever means, a male or female to engage in prostitution; or 4- Acts as a middleman, in whatever form, establishing contacts between male/ female prostitutes and the brothelkeeper or the provider of profit for the prostitution of other persons; or allows a make or females to live at his/her house or any other place for the purpose of engaging him/her in prostitution for his/her profit.

Art I CL e. 7.. Whoever establishes a place to commit an immoral or obscene act shall be punished from 1 to 5 years impri sonment and from 5, 000, 000 (five million riels) to 30, 000, 000 (thirty million riels) fines. In case of repeated offense, the punishment shall be doubled. So what does obscene mean? Anything the cops want it to be (sexy dancing).

Barfines come under profits derived from prostitution. Make sure girls have ID's and are real.

Does his description fit? I'm a some time visitor to PP -- this is a new one to me. Can you tell us more about it? Maybe compare it to another place, such as Martini. (and where is it? sounds like it must be on the river, judging by the name)

Jeez, if some guy in Sharky told me about a place like that, I'd write the dang name down and find out where it was before he had a chance to have a heart attack or something. Actually, I'd probably finish my beer and head right over there. Male bonding's great but... 50 freelancers at low prices: "nice to meet you... we'll do lunch. Seeya."

btw I don't know anything about the area aound L'Imprevu (I actually don't even know where it is). Where did you find out about it? Tripadvisor? No photos there. Would be interested to see what the place looks like. I noticed on Tripadvisor there was one person who complained about how the staff turn a blind eye to men accompanied by local ladies. They seemed bothered by that, whereas I can imagine you read that and thought "Wow! Great!" ;-)

The description doesnt really fit otherwise you would have heard about it before. The bar with dancing that starts with P that bit fits.

Pontoon is a floating bar at the end of street 108 it does have dancing and music and there is the odd freelancer there. Not a place I would go to find girls though.

As for L Imprevu it is 7km past the Monivong bridge on route 1 the highway to Vietnam. There is nothing around it but a few other swimming type resorts and beer gardens. In total it is about 11km out of town on a really bad and busy road so it takes quite a long time to get there.

I agree it may fill up with girls (and guys) dancing, but freelancers looking for barang customers is not its main stay.

You could say that DarkRoom, Orange Club or Riverside Lounge are the same. Yes they have hostess girls that go there after work and some freelancers but the girls go there to have fun on their days off or with friends to pick up Khmer boyfriends.

I have been to these places with hostess bar girls when one of them is having a birthday party or similar.

At all of the above places it is possible to find working girls just dont assume that they are all working.

Over two years in PP and I've never heard of it.

Pontoon does have freelancers always but not big numbers.

However with the recent crackdown freelancers have appeared at the gym bar and reggae bar so who knows now.

Pontoon and riverhouse full of trendy rich khmers, if one is not a local could be dangerous talking to girls there-boyfriends may be tooled up.

After weeks of hearing nothing but bad news from Phnom Penh I changed my travel plans. Seems I have accumulated a lot of Marriott reward points (thank you Amsterdam) and when I applied these points to the already discounted rates offered, my out of pocket cost for staying at the Pattaya Marriott Resort and Spa comes to less than $50/day for 11 days. Total. So I will taxi down to Pattaya, spend 5 days at the Spa, then rent a car & drive over the Ko Chang for 3 days, then return to Pattaya for 6 days before taxing back to BKK. It looks like it's going to be a fuck fest!

I realize that pretty much every hotel is GF in Pattaya. But the Marriotts and Sheratons in SE Asia generally are not. Assume you've checked with other mongerers? First I have to say how sad it is that we are talking about girl friendly hotels in Pattaya on the Phnom Penh thread. I hope PP comes back to life. I really enjoyed my time there. The girls treated me right.

Now to the question you raised.. Yes I have assiduously read through the Pattaya thread and the Marriott is always placed in the girl friendly column (no joiner fees). Some sample reports:

From Bonzo1

"The Marriott was excellent, and so I'm going to vote there."

From Ranger775

"First off, a quick update. On my last trip to Pattaya, I stayed at the Marriott and can confirm they have no problem with guests. In fact, because I had a repeat guest on consecutive nights, the security guard/front desk let her up to my room w/o having to give id. In addition, the hotel has a great breakfast, good clean room, expensive internet, ok bathroom, and the balcony was nice too. Location was perfect as it is in the middle of everything yet with all the trees around it, it does have secluded feeling".

There is a great list of GF & non GF (joiner fee) Pattaya hotels in the thread. Use the search engine to find it.

The reason why I chose the Marriott was 1. GF (a necessity), 2. Nice grounds/pool area to relax in. 3. Location Location Location, and 4. I got a sweet deal using my Marriott reward points. There are lots of other options in town.

As to the question of other SE Asia GF hotels; I believe the Bangkok Marriott if GF too, but I can't be certain. I stayed there for one night but did not bring any guests back with me. Marriott Cebu is GF and also Manila Renaissance. I believe the Westin BKK is also GF.

My trip to Pattaya is my backup trip. I originally planned on going to Phnom Penh and then checking out Kampot and Kep for a few days. Instead I will check out Ko Chang. I have never been to Ko Chang. I know they have some bars so there must be something going on. It is Thailand for God's sake. I will make a report on what I find in the appropriate threads when I return.

Again, I wish the girls of Cambodia all my love and hope everything gets back to normal as soon as possible.

Please note that some of the GH are not GF. They have early lock the front gate policy (like 10pm) so they could screen who you bring back and make a stink about it. If this happens, since GH prices are often cheap just checkout and walk down the street to another GH--from personal experiences.

Hi guys,

I'm looking for a GF hotel in PP.

My company is paying, so no real limit.

Can you help me?

I saw on internet:

FCC, Raffles, Boddhi Tree Aram, Pavilion, Intercontinental, Billabong

Any information?

Thanks

Phnom Penh International, very nice bussiness type hotel yet is still very gf. Raffles is just too expensive. Intercontinental is a fair way out, Billabong not GF.

Go to Naga Casino hotel. It is $120/night. Real nice star hotel. No problem with any number of girls. security is real toght. You can see some girls hanging around also.
They do have a kind of dress policy. Make sure the girl is decently dressed.

Do you have the address?

Which places to you recommend to pick up girls now? (I'll only have one or two nights, so no waste of time is allowed!

Inter-CONTINENTAL is quite a ways away down at the corner of what as I remember is Mao Tse Tung and Moniveth. Go google Cambodia Yellow pages and look them up - there's an on-line map in the yellow pages as well. (grid H-10 - map shows it as INTER-CONTINENTAL HOTEL, listing says "intercontinental, Phnom Pehn")

296 Boulevard Mao Tse Toung
Phnom Pehn, 2288, Cambodia
+855 23 424 888

Way past the stadium and lower left hand on the telephone map. Nice place but $$ four star or five star.

I agree that Naga is on a par and is closer to the action. BUT Naga has he casino and they are a bit FUSSY about the ASIAN clientele - any barang with the money can walk in though.

It is a well known fact that asians are big gamblers than barangs. You will see very few white men in Naga. The whole thing is geared towards chinese, korean and japanese gamblers.

well - I DO have to admit that I was one of very FEW non-asian faces in NAGA. Dressed "down" (like a hobo) but with a few hundred in my wallet - they didn't CARE (the food in the buffet was pretty good, too).

It was pretty much the same in Snooky, too. Played at the "holiday" on the beach. only 1 or 2 other non-asians in there, too.

Of course, most barang have other interests... so do I but there was a bit of time to kill

Hey guys,

I just joined in this forum. And its nice here. So many info. :D

I'm going to fly to Phnom Penh soon and would like to check whether Sophie's Club is still safe for barang to visit? And also if you can give approximate charge too? The last time was around 20 - 25 USD for the girls.

Cheers & really appreciate you guide!

I dont visit the brothels or Sharky or Martini. But I was a couple of days ago in PP and visited some bars. Cyrcee alive and kicking. Bars on street 104, 108 and 136 are slowly getting back to normal practice but still afraid for the police raids.

The closed bars (Cheerleaders, Bleu Lagoon, Iris) are still closed. The owners had enjoyed the hospitality of the police for a couple of days and one of them told we that he wont reopen shortly coz the climate is not right yet.

The two times I was in Walkabout last week there seems to be more ladies than ever in the afternoon. I dont visit that place in the evening.

So dont worry, enough bars to have a good time in and select a lady for some more pleasure in your room.

Yes the Holiday Inn is in the center of Phnom Penh, which is where all the action is. It's next door to the Howard Johnson's, and across the street from the International House of Pancakes. I recommend the Happy Pancake. ;)

No he's not. I know. My post was complete baloney, a joke. Hence the ;). Holiday Inn is a very well known chain of 'motels' in the US, kind of the McDonald's of motels. And Howard Johnson's and the International House of Pancakes are well known chain restaurants, similar to "Denny's". The action is not all in the center, and as far as I know there are no happy pancakes (tho I wouldnt' be surprised at all if I was wrong about that).

The hotel and disco he's talking about have been around forever, it's one of those discos that opens, closes, opens, closes and always seems to have serious trouble happening from time to time (drugs, shooting deaths, etc.) The times I've been there, it's always been a pretty tough scene to crack. It's not obvious enough who's there to work, who's there to play, who belongs to who (always good to find this out in PP, see above). It's too dark to get a decent look at anyone, and the music is too loud to talk to them.

I sure hope that's not the best option in PP these days.

Spent five wonderful days in Phnom Penh recently. Stayed at the Walkabout, not every-bodies choice hotel, but ideal if you want a high turnover of activity with the lovely, sexy, beautiful chickens at $15 ST a shot. You can fuck away to your hearts content and exhaustion. The only dampener on the trip was the rain, it absolutely buckets down gentlemen. So heavy was the weather on arrival our landing was aborted at the last, i must say i was fairly comfortable, the pilot skills were excellent, courtesy Air Asia.

I averaged about three honeys a day, the heat and sightseeing activity aside. Must say on the bar scene front, all appeared very quiet, i did not take out, each bar i went to on st136 had several patrons. It would appear tourism is really low, add to this the recent raids by LE. There is quite a bit of daytime activity to be had, shooting range for one, naturally taxi drivers/tour guides will be suggestive. Or you can do what i did and while away the day on the waterfront restaurants, gaze out of the Tonle Sap, sucking away at the Angor draft and chatting to friendly chicks. I did not have time to cultivate any close friendship, i would just move on, plus, this is not my style to get too close. For the artistic, there is Art st, five min walk from Walkabout. I visited the killing fields of course. The perspiration was pouring off me just standing still at the memorial, lead me to think what the poor souls must have gone through there during the height of cruelty.

Back to the chicks. Had a lot of fun, i was at ease, just allowing the girls to mosey up to me at their choosing. All very friendly and lovable dolls. Mostly took ST time, on two occasions had a LT. One thing i noticed at the Walkabout, as soon as i paid the chick she would disappear into the distance not to be seen for a day or two. A couple of occasions i did not see the chick for the remainder of my stay. The Walkabout is the ideal base for high turnover fucking. Plonk your ass on the bar stool with your Angor draft and the chickens will come to you.

The food standard is pretty good, i enjoy my greens, finding food in most places i have travelled has proved to be a headache, not in Phnom Penh though, food is plentiful and healthy. Angor draft is an agreeable beer. I prefer to stroll around when i travel, never felt threatened in any way, day or night. Lot of Aussie fellas about, understandably, they are nice sporty fellas, i enjoyed the chit chat gentlemen. Thank you for your hospitality Phnom Penh. I did not take photos of chicks, plan to return shortly so we do not need to shit on our own doorstep. Would have been risky and silly of me.

If you in a rotten job here in London, don't get to travel often enough, one would surely enjoy even mediocre talent, being somewhat deprived will change your perspective. Scams aside, don't really allow myself to be bothered about people when I'm enjoying myself.

Personally, wherever I go, I have no altenative but to enjoy whatever wonders my way.

On a humourous note, I loved the way motor bike riders will not stop when instructed to do so by foot police. I roared with laughter, especially when a chick did a ride away as if the cop were not there.

Also, the poole table at the Walkabout is the domain of the chicks. It is quite amusing to see them argueing over the poole table, is this not male behaviour. The table is unusally free, doubt I have seen this done anywhere before. Nice touch. Walkabout.

Sorry to disappoint, but PP is not known for busty ladies as majority of providers here have A cups maybe a B+ cup but C cups and up are a rare sight as most Viets tend to be on the tiny/ thin side with "average asian boobs"-if you know what I mean.
What makes it worse when you think you see a busty girl, it could be an illusion as many now wear those feared "push up-enhance the bust look bras"

They can be found but rare in PP and if your time is limited in PP not worth wasting time seeking a rare thing, just go with the flow.

From what I've seen, and I've never been in Cambodia more than a month, the Khmer girls there are generally chestier than ones in Vietnam or Thailand. I've had a few who were pretty big there in PP, always Khmers, though nothing that would qualify as big in the west. More like 'actual breasts' as opposed to the miniature ones in VN and Thailand. Khmer girls are darker skinned, usually rounder eyes than Vietnamese.

Me and and friend have been to Phnom Pehn a couple times but we have never been to Vietnam before, he is Canadian and I am American.

In December we want to go from Bangkok to Phnom Pehn about 5 days, then fly to HMC, also know as Saigon. He is sometimes picky about not wanting to take a bus though.

All the flights from Cambodia to Vietnam were expensive, more than $400 USD.
Any flight recommendations? I can fly from Bangkok to Phnom Pehn for about $80 USD one way. Not much more to fly from Bangkok to HMC.
But Phnom Pehn to HMC is a ridicoulous price. After my trip in Asia I need to take a one way flight to the US. So I was going to fly from HMC to the US because it was cheap.

Can you guys give me some travel advice to go from Phnom Pehn to Saigon?
I'll ask on the Vietnam forum too.

Thanks

Can you guys give me some travel advice to go from Phnom Pehn to Saigon?Take a bus, it is pittance compared to high season airfares. What is 6 to 10 hours on a bus, your day is lost even if you fly. Next Cambo trip i have this in mind. On the waterfront, Tonley Sap, you can buy tickets, $20+ i forget the rate exactly.

Daddy San

If you don't want to sit on the bus for 2 days (there and back) you may want to consider flying to SGN from BKK.
Air Asia will cost you some 3850 THB or under 120 USD.
That is what I am going to do

Kniom

Why don't you consider taking a bus?

Capitol, Narin, Sorya and sevral other companies do the trip for a fraction of the flight-fare.

You can buy bus tickets (Sorya) from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh City for $10. It takes six hours. I know, part of my business is selling bus tickets in Phnom Penh. The buses are comfortable with air-con...no chickens, no goats, no having to sit on the roof.

Thanks guys, I think I'll be taking the bus. My friend said he didn't mind.
But what about the Visa? Will it be ok to use out visa by crossing over the border by land? Can we apply for the visa in Phnom Pehn? My friend thinks it's better to get the visa from Thailand.

Honestly, I did have the chickens in the bus visions in my mind. I took a train in Thailand once. On the way from Bangkok to Burriam it was just fine and great. On the way back I could only catch the low priced train. I had to stand many hours until a seat opened up and there were chickens and animals and people walking by selling smelly things. It was a horrible... 8 hours if I remember right
Thanks again

I just answer your question about the bus in the Viet thread but notice you didn't include the visa question there, so I'll answer it here for you.

If you hold an American passport( or for most foreign passports), then you must get the Viet. visa in advance as only locals from several asian countries do not need visas or could get them at the border. If you do not have the Viet visa, you will be turned back at the border-- not a good thing.

Forget about Thailand, as it is much easier and quicker to get the Viet visa in PP. There are 2 ways to get the visa.
1) go to the Viet embassy yourself and apply for the visa, usually drop off today and pick up tomorrow (or even same day if things are slow at the embassy)
2) just go to any travel agent office you see (or even ask at your hotel if they will process Viet visa) the cost will be the same or even cheaper by a few dollars--don't know why though? as going to Viet embassy yourself but this way will save on the RT moto cost and time.
Timing is about the same, drop off today and pick up tomorrow.

Had a couple of days in Phnom Penh recently. As I was with company, I could not head out to the lady bars at will. So confined myself to places I could remember with quick and easy access to the old pnp.

Luxury World hotel has a massage place upstairs where you can pick from several nationalities - see previous descriptions by other posters. Picked a Khmer who has nice figure for regular massage $5. (VIP room with jaqoosie is $8 and maybe that is better as reports say that the massage is never that great anyway).

Half way through a very so-so experience, asked if boom boom was available. Sure it was. No mention about price. Instead of putting a towel over the window in the door, she switched out the light so that I could see nothing. No blow job but I was good and ready by that stage anyway. Service was basic and not really GFE (absolutely no kissing) but she was tight. After shower I gave her $20 and she made a face but could not speak English. Gave her another bunch of singles 9about $4) and kept walking. I always pay when I have my shoes on and am ready to walk!

Le Circee only opens after 6pm but it is still run by the same French speaking guy who also speaks English. As I did not have much time, I picked out a Khmer dressed in red with long slightly curly hair - made her look faintly South American.

No going upstairs any more. Now have to go around the corner which can cause problems if you do not want to be seen. The guest house was almost better than my hotel and I am not exactly sure but I think it cost $7 extra. The lady was also young and appeared to be less than interested at first although she was nice and looked real good with slightly darker skin.

Started off with a bj without being asked. No problem with daty or playing around with her pussy. All positions were available and the light was on. Only problem was that she was hot and tight with good muscle control and I could not postpone blast off. During the deed, she got really into it and at one stage I thought she might tear the sheets.

Back at the bar, it was $5 for drinks (you have to pay for one girly drink), $20 for her and $7 for the GS for an hour. I gave her an extra $5 tip for good service with was accepted wth appreciation. So different from Luxury World.

I still prefer the ladybars - there is one on street 136 - the last one on the rhs in that block near the river and I think it is called the 99 bar. In previous years I pulled a couple of long-termers out of that bar. Always got better service and fun than in the in-house establishments.

I'll be in PNH in February for about a week, second year running.
Early this year I stayed at Flamingos and mongered at the Walkabout, Sharkys, Le Circee etc.
I had some fantastic massages right opposite Flamingos, but strictly legit. The girl, under 5', very cute and doable and strong like a wrestler, did not even hesitate at my offer of $50, while performing miracles with my back in my room.
So what I am looking for are MPs or similar venues with extensive special services (as opposd to the pick-up places above)
The Luxury World Hotel seems a worth while tip, but there must be many others.
Relevant info would be greatly appreciated.

I think Luxury World is hit and miss. At least you get a choice between vietnamese, local and chinese. I did not choose VIP room at $8 but I think you ought to consider that as it may be free of large windows on the door.

About 4 years ago, found a couple of places that did massage - one around the corner of Walkabout - turn right out of WA and turn right around the corner and it is on RHS a few meters away. Although there is a fish bowl, not much choice and some do not do FS for $20. Tried another which was west of the central market (the one near Circee). Had an ok experience but not great.

I think that the city needs some more massage places where FS is on offer for those who cannot get out and about so easily. But if you are free and easy, it is very easy to pick up a girl in PP - just go to a few bars or even check out the strictly legit massage places and make a date with the girl for afterwards. Always ask first where she is from (best if she is from out of town and no family to bother her). Most Cambodian girls will put out if you are a gentleman and treat them right.

Thanks for your reply, Simian,
when I did my research for my first trip to Cambodia in February 2008, there were a number if quite informative FRs by Lord Smutty, which have since disapperaed, either by accident or by censorship. I quote from one of the defunct reports:

So I decided to try my luck in one of the foot massage parlours on Monivong...There are many of these parlours along Monivong to explore.
-----
Another great spot to let the fur fly is the street#49 (same street that Cyrcee and Mikado are on). If you come out of Cyrcee, turn right and head over street #136 until you find yourself in a stretch of brightly lit parlours
----
Now Monivong is quite long, but I went up and down in a tuk tuk twice on different days and could not find a single likely venue.
I don't actually remember searching along street #49, but I do remember not having found a single fucking MP (pun intended!).
The one opposite Flamingos is quite nice but strictly legit, not even private rooms.
I am sure, there are MPs with serious extras available, all over the place, since it seems to be part of the culture in SE Asia
So I repeat my question(s):

Where are they?
Whereabout on Monivong are they?
Are those supposedly "brightly lit parlours" on #49 real?

Sim card info.

I got a Hello sim card from the Airport. $5 for the card, then bought minutes. It's a good network sure, but it's expensive. Why? Because the ladies call you and hang up, then you call them back and getting charged up the ass per minute. The best part of "Hello" is that you get a confirmation on SMS when it's received. If she has her phone off you'll know it, and once she turns it on you'll get the sms confirmation.

http://www.hello.com.kh/

All the ladies seem to use Cellcard, so that's the one I recommend. Just ask the hotel where to get one, they are everywhere and seem to be the most affordable.

http://www.cellcard.com.kh/cccust_rates_new09.php

Unlocking a phone.

I couldn't unlock my phone no matter what I did. Here's the place I used, they speak English

Place : Citifone

Location : #33 on Street 128 (Kampuchea Krom Blvd)

Here's my info and experiences about Hotel and Motorbikes and Tuktuk...

While in Phnom Penh I stayed at Flamingos Hotel. My 1st complaint is they said they'd send a driver to pick me up, well the airport is small and there was no driver holding a paper with my name on it. I waited an hour, then took a $9 taxi to the hotel. The hotel said the driver was there but didn't see me (I call bullshit). My 2nd complaint is their internet is slow, but they have internet and that's important. I have no other complaints.

The staff is friendly, pool table is ok, happy hour $1 beer from 4-8pm, guest friendly. Maid staff were flirty and fun to talk with. Paid $25 a night for the standard room which was the best value in my opinion. I saw all rooms and the only difference seemed to be the size of the room but same quality. The $35 room had a bath tub with shower nozzle. Others just a shower only.

They don't take or check IDs of girls. But if you don't walk down with them the front desk will call your room to make sure things are ok before she leaves.

Motobike and tuk tuk drivers outside of Flamingos are aggressive because they're running up to you as you walk out and they seem to ask for $1 more than the guys even a block away. Kind of annoying. I ended up getting 3 guys I can trust with fair prices and used them most of the time and got their phone numbers. They would even wait outside for me and not charge extra for waiting a few hours for me, I'm using them frequently. Also if I was going to be x amount of hours I would call them to pick me up or tell them to come back at a certain time so they can still have other business.

Here are some transportation prices from Flamingos/Walkabout or surrounding areas to go to Sharky's or Martini etc.

Me + 1 person on tuk tuk = $2
Me + 2 or 3 people on tuk tuk = $3.
Me with or without a person on a motobike = $1

Sharky's to Martini, I either bargain or use a guy I know or...

Tuk tuk add $1

Motorbike add $0.50-$1

About the motorbike or tuk tuks - there isn't that much business for them right now. It's not so busy and they're all fighting over $1. But if you take one some place, they're all friendly with you and usually they'll want more money because they're "Waiting for you" and couldn't take another customer. I don't care for that. It happened a few times from 3 drivers outside Flamingos. Then happened only 1 time from some driver outside Sorya market. To avoid the problem you can take a guy you trust or just get dropped off and not have them wait because there are drivers everywhere.

I know a dependable guy that has a motorbike, tuk tuk, and access to a car. If you're interested in his contact info PM me.

Is it scenic? I may do this, too.

Not what I call scenic as after the first 30min or so its the same same for the next 5-6hrs.(note:it'll take about 45min-1hr just to get out of the city limits with traffic)
Do the ride to get to HCMC and thats about it. But as PT said for $10 or so its cheap enough.

What I understand from a local chinese businessman is that all massage places do offer sex. It is just that for foreigners they come across as legit.
But if you are regular and trust you they might offer more than a massage.
Everybody knows they hardly make any money by doing massage only.

The heaven hotel on 130. Is it?

Near norodom, always brightly lit with girls sitting at the entrance.

Fishbowl and lots of girls they say, I went once on a holiday weekend and there were three girls.

That luxury world sounds like the best bet, although I haven't been.

Did go LCC/mikado or now somalys recently.

LCC we pulled only one girl each in an empty bar. No more crowding with lots of feel ups and often no panties.$27 with nearby room, a walk for residents is bad news.

On to Somalys. Great.

Lots of attentive girls each.$20 all up including mirrored room.

My mate went back last week and took two together.

Girls very obliging apparently. Thats a surprise.

Girls from bars are beautiful but a lottery.

LCC/Somalys satisfaction guaranteed.

Are there any scams or high prices to worry about at the border.
I seen many stories about scams and high prices if you take a bus from
Thailand to Cambodia, but I don't hear of any problems on the Vietnam
border.

Thanks

I just went to PP from HCMC and the cost was $10USD for the bus, once aboard the company pumps you for $25USD for the visa. After reading online and this forum the price is only $20USD I refused to cough up the extra $5 on principal. I had to "do it on my own" and was threatened with being left behind if I was late. I went trough immigration, customs, and health inspection on the Viet side with no problems then you have to haul your belongings some 50yards up the road to the Camby side and do the same procedure there along with filing out the form and handing over a crisp new $20USD bill. All in all no big deal, I was done in minuets compared to the hoard that paid $25. 30 minuets early to be exact. The only difference was being told where to stand and wait for the bus driver to do the waiting at the immigration desk for you. As all over South east Asia no one ques up and some drivers from other buses were handing over scrilla to the immigration officer to process their passports first. Same old crap but no problem for me. They were very serious about the health inspection, taking everyones temperature at the border, so if you have a fever you'll be quarantined.

Anytime I've ever gone to check out any fishbowl in PP after hearing glowing reviews (full of gorgeous girls, probably 50 sitting in there) it's always been a big disappointment. More like 5 very normal looking girls, usually. Never one beautiful girl in any fishbowl I've ever seen. And actually that goes for Bangkok too. Maybe I'e just been amazingly unlucky.

On my last trip I went to Club 69. Loads of yummy girls and some with excellent English. Bought afew drinks, no pressure at all and had a couple girls hanging on me and teasing me. Got me harder than Chinese algebra but no one showed any interest in asking me to go somewhere or if I wanted more outside the bar. The slightly older mamsan was hot too. 2 other guys in there and 1 alone just drinking. Had my hands down some pants also but that was it.

Are those supposedly "brightly lit parlours" on #49 real? Yes, but they were low class, staffed by girls that looked way too young, and not one of them appeared attractive to me. I was not given any come hither gestures so I would say they were for the locals anyway.

My point of observation was walking to and from LCC down some side streets but was able to look inside from the street, and yes, they were well lit.

Also a waste of time IMO to go in search of them but if you would like a look for yourself I was passing through after 9pm last March.

I also saw places like this on St. 51 around that part of town were LCC is located.

Where is Somalys? I checked the forum and did not find any other reference.

As a public service it would be nice to create a list of massage places, especially those open during the day, where a married man can check out when it suits him. I cannot do it as I do not live in Cambodia and only get to spend short times there.

The trouble with LCC is that it only opens after 6pm. The other options that I know about, Walkabout etc, are too public. A list of FS places that are reasonably clean, esp massage places offering FS, would be great. Yes, if you go to the same massage place for a few weeks, you may get more than the rub or the rub 'n' tug. But that option is only open to residents.

No real scams at the Viet border if leaving Cambo and entering Vietnam, but as I mentioned before on another post before, if you are from most Western countries (especially USA), you CAN'T get the viet visa at the border, they will turn you away back to PP so its a wasted trip. Get the Viet visa either at home before leaving or even better and cheaper to get it in PP. Check for my previous posts for details.

Just spent a long weekend in PP with first 2 days on business then 3 days sightseeing and doing monkey business.

Found the 138 and 104 bars absolute rubbish. The bars themselves are old, dirty and stink for the most part. Went to Sharkey's and Martini and also found them to be the typical pool bar / beer bars you used to find in Philippines, Vietnam and China years ago. What girls were there you generally had to drink pretty.

Did find one Khmer and one VN girl in Sharkey's late at night that I got friendly with playing pool. It was obvious both were available but no mention themselves. Upon closing the place asked the Khmer girl if she might join me for the rest of the night which she enthusiastically agreed to. A good night ensued.

What I was introduced to by a friend however was the Chinese Karaoke bars. One in Phnom Penh Hotel and one in Nagaworld. Outstanding. Beautiful girls; Khmer, Viet and Chinese. Rooms and sound system are outstanding as is the lineups from mamasan. Johnny Walker Gold is $95 per bottle or 3 for 2. Girls time is $20 for the whole night in the Karaoke. Takeout is $150 for Chinese, $100 for Viet and $50 for Khmer. Crazy dice games from liars poker to 7, 8, 9 both drinking games. The 7, 8, 9 game involves she touches you on the outside, you touch her on the outside, OR she touches you on the inside or you touch her on the inside depending upon the color of the dice rolled. WOW! They go crazy.

Pricier than the rest of PP but much better value. Most model quality and enthusiastic in the room and outside.

Not sure which 136/104 bars you went to AT but they are generally much better than you describe.

Certainly KTVs,X2s and other karaoke joints have the best girls but shit they are expensive arent they?

A bottle of whiskey at $95-one can get nearly ten short times for that.

Somaly is indeed the reborn mikado sans kimonos but otherwise the same as before-short time hotel next door.

Corner of 136 and 49.

Also, becareful as to what you do on the beach in snooky. A frenchman told me that NGOs are snooping around taking photos of foreigners, (perhaps even innocently), talking to the young ones.

the ngos have definetly fucked this place up. nevertheless, there is still fun to be had and i ask you all to keep your mouths shut.if you are asking us to keep our mouths shut about ****philia your mind is seriously fucked.

I went to Paris Hotel's fishbowl and chose a nice khumer girl.

2hr massage was USD$12 in the room according to the mamasan/attendant, however my massuest said it was $11. Room was just a basic room with toilet, basin and a shower on a hose with Hot water. Wooden Ceiling, tv, closet, mirror. Old and dusty on the top of the closet and bottom of the wooden bedside table.

Anyway had a shower, lay down wrapped in a towel face up, She started rubbing the feet and working her way up, Ok massage but its not what I was here for.

Got to the fun part, she had tiny A cups and a nice shapely ass. I got a BBJ and shot over her tits, then after a little bit of a hug and cuddle (GFE) and went for round #2. Very relaxing place, I'll be back to visit it next time round.

Just don't bother looking at the surly sourfaced reception/front desk at the hotel, press the lift to go to 3rd floor and stare at the tourist posters on the wall until the lift arrives.

Luxury World Hotel.

I heard about the 3 types in the fishbowl and had to see for myself.

As you walk in turn 90deg left and upthe stairs. You will see a L shaped fishbowl, not that many Chinese girls there (some were working I'd assume by what the mamasan said regarding models. These were $2 more than the other 2 and were wearing whatever they felt like) and the ones there were pushing 40 I'd say. The amount of local Khumer girls (wearing orange uniform)were amazing. They just kept streamng out of the back rooms. There would have been about 60+

The viet girls would have been about 20 or so wearing purple.

I chose a cute vn girl. #127. Big mistake.

Got the VIP room for 2hrs at$8hr.

Had a steam room, shower head fixed to the wall and no toilet.

There were mirrors on the walls and one on the ceiling above the bed.

This girl started off with a boring massage, finally she made hand signals to sleep you and me. I said ok, how much in viet? She motioned USD$50. I just lost all interest in boomboom after that. After a while she asked me again, this time it was for $40. I said $20, kept trying to go up to 35/30/25 etc but I was fixed. I was going to say $10 but wanted to see how she would react to $20. After a pause she accepted.

Went to shower and come back, turned off the room lights, and the tv, she was scared people will look into the room, the door has sections with a mirror tint on the outside.

I turned the tv back on but she didn't want to remove her towel. Finally I turned the tv off and she sat there giving me a HJ. I gently pulled her towards my cock to told her I want yum yum and she said no. I asked her again and No was the answer. After that I turned on the tv. I was tempted to go change the girl out but couldn't be bothered, Lost my appetite so to speak.

After the end of the 2hrs she didn't bother asking me for a tip though she was hanging around when she didn't need to be, I was going to give her a 100 are note but as she had ordered a drink but didn't get the attendant to open it so $1. 50 would be enough for her.

I'll come back and try it out again, but not #127, unless you want a boring massage.

to all the blabbermouths sophies is closed and so is svay pak. ****phalia? didn't see any thanks to the ngo's, and even if i did i the secret is safe, (wink). there are lots of nice places in cambo. but thanks to a couple of cunts the ngos know where to go to have the really nice places shut down.

good luck in your search.which ngo's are these? have a link? i was thinking of making a big donation to help them shut down your favorite places (wink).

Which NGO's are these? Have a link? I was thinking of making a big donation to help them shut down your favorite places (wink). There are some NGOs there using dodgy tactics to catch (entrap) people. One I've heard of is inexcusable even if it means catching these sickos.

Anyways some are stupid enough to make certain types of comments on forums like this. I guess they are happy to have their names on more than a few law enforcement watch lists or they wouldn't be so dumb.

Yes, some of them do use shady tactics. Not all, but some of them are here to make money. Their cause is secondary. Otherwise, they wouldn't be driving around in new Lexus's and even buying them for corrupt officials. Even Hun Sen says this (not that I'm a big fan of his). They need to make people living on the other side of the world feel sympathetic and outraged.

I know a man who made the international news, recently, for allegedly being with 12 year old girls. It was an NGO that busted him. I won't name them because they are very powerful, probably read these forums, and...I live here.

Anyway, it was in the papers. It was on TV. He fit the profile - old, fat, walked with cane...basically everyone's nightmare when it came to this sort of thing. He was a teacher, so he saw young girls on a daily basis. I'm sure it caught the attention of many from the west, and I'm sure that many opened their wallets and sent money.

The man may very well be guilty. But here's the thing...the week after he made international news, I saw him walking in Sorya Mall. And the next week, I saw him walking on the streets of Phnom Penh. They didn't have any hard evidence against him. If they had, he certainly would have been in a Cambodian jail or sent to the US (he's a US citizen) to be prosecuted.

I'll bet they made a ton of money from the publicity.

Last week, a Frenchman was found with a 15 year old girl at a guesthouse. The same NGO was allowed to talk to her. She told them that she was working out of Walkabout. I live across the street from Walkabout, and know many people who go there regularly. I've never seen anyone there that I thought could possibly be 15 years old. I guess it is possible, but I doubt it. They have been wanting to close down Walkabout for years, and this will help to do it. Now, only girls with ids can enter Walkabout. Most girls do not have ids, and for them, the ids are very expensive to get. Last Friday, Joker Draw Night, the pot was over $10,000, the most ever from what I understand. There was only a handful of people there because of this new rule.

I applaud the NGOs that are altruistic and have noble causes. There are over 3,200 NGOs in Cambodia (I believe more than any other country in the world). I think that there are at least some who have other motives.

it looks like nerdy's post was delayed until appearing in the thread (maybe due to being new account, dunno). when i last posted, it wasn't there in the thread.

i agree it is dodgy, by doing that they're committing the crime themselves (by orchestrating and enabling it, and by encouraging that the act take place). i dont' think anyone caught that way should be let go, just that whoever came up with that scheme should also face the music. i mean, you wouldn't try to catch a killer by setting up a murder and letting the victim be killed, just to solidify your case.

And some bullshit in the previous thread.

ngo's don't use **** girls, they don't need to because the girl doesn't have to appear in court or be questioned. also due to u.s pressure, mongering is illegal in scambodia, and entrapement is the new game being played. they can't go after the karokays and m.p's,(have plenty of ****) etc as they are run by gangsters along with cops and military. so now they arer going after the lone white man, one at atime as it is very safe for the ngo's and cops. look at recent issues of cambodian daily and phom penh post.

geraldo francisco reporting. been to cambodia several times. forget poi pet with all the beggers. pp is the place to go.

the first time was a visa run from thailand in 2003. just a week to escape songkran in the big mango.

my motordriver took me to some dump with about 20 girls. just to be safe i took the khmer girl who was 22. for two nights we fucked and made use of the tub. then i got bored.

i went to sharkey's bar on street 130. lord, there were fifty girls in there! i started out with a 21 year old, then a 19 year old, then a vietnamese girl of 24. [deleted by admin]. i left them to an english "gentlemen" who liked little girls. i took the mamasan, age 27-37, nam thi me. she was the best of the bunch.

after nam, i got an 18 year old that i wanted to adopt. but the trip was over.

the next time i visited pp, i was on my way back to thailand with a little rest stop. things had changed. no more motorcycle; everyone had a tuk-tuk or a car. but the number of bars had blossomed.

i stayed in a hotel on street 130 near the central market. from there it was easy to get to sharkey's and plenty of girls. but they were a little more picky. so i started visiting other bars. the wine bar had a number of decent girls and the first night i took home two vietnamese. we had a great time eating, drinking, shopping and fucking ourselves silly. all for less than $150.

it's too bad it all came to an end. i finally got kicked out of the country at the request of the u.s. embassy. a long story but at least i'm not in their jail nor ours. i love that place!

don't believe too much about what is written here, like this board member who claims to live oppostite the walkabout. well, i myself was in there last friday having my shot at the 11.500 dollar joker jackpot, but the winning ticket did not turn the joker, so now friday even more to win, now to the point, the wa was packed with people 12 rows thick outsite into the street, what a bullshit to say there where only a handful of people.

actually yesterday afternoon time it was full also when i passed there. i'm not advertising the wa as i don't like the place, last friday was the first time in two and a half years i was inside, but will go again friday for the jackpot. never saw **** girls in that place. concerining ngo who want to trap you, keep your fingers off minors and nothing will happen to you in cambo, however, as of the italian who was with the 15 year old. well, it up to you, aint it?

Going to be in Phnom Pehn in a few fays with a friend. My friend booked a room at our favorite place to stay, Flamingo's a long time ago. I tried to book a room and they said they are fully booked. I stayed at Cara hotel a couple years ago, but it seemed far from the area I like around Flamingos. Also the room price climbed a lot in the last couple years.

I just asked Walkabout hotel, which seems like maybe not a nice place to stay, so I have to wait for them to reply.

Any other GF hotels nearby for $40 or less?

Ok but to stay there no thanks, this is not saying the Walkabout is unacceptable its just that for a few dollars more you can do better, I stayed at the Thornbury, not on the waterfront but only a short tuk tuk ride away, also it has a massage area inside the hotel, the women were ok. Hope that helps.

Walkabout is much better than it looks on first impressions when you walk in. The rooms on the top floor are quite beautiful and have a little balcony area where you can get some fresh air or watch the world go by below.

walkabout check id on the door for anyone working in there. it doesn't sound like it could happen. if in doubt, ask one of the staff to double-check the id and verify that the woman is over 18. i wouldn't class walkabout as shady, even though i wouldn't eat there. being so open, they know they have to stick to the rules. i certainly wouldn't suggest staying there if it wasn't clearly on the up and up.

personally i wish every club had the sort of security and routine id checks that walkabout does. i don't like the slightest doubt. and although they've cleaned up quite a lot, i think the doubt or reputation that hangs over cambodia sometimes actually puts off decent regular punters.

remember a lot of the ngos (not all) are simply anti-sex and anti-prostitution. much of the purge has done more harm than good, with working women not daring to carry condoms in case they get accused, detained, beaten up and raped: by police. the clean-up-but-don't-encourage-condoms was part of the massive strings-attached gift aid that the bush government gave cambodia. cambodia has, in fact, been a slush pit of badly conceived, badly applied, aid for years, much of which has had disastrous effects. many ngos mean well biut don't have a clue. the financial incentives are not readily conducive to justice or the good of the cambodian people or their children. just be meticulous about your own behaviour. try to set a better moral example. it's not impossible.

I stayed at the Walkabout 18 months ago. For me it was a disaster. They placed me in a room on the floor above the first floor bar so it was noisy all night long. You would think that they would do the decent thing for the residents and close the bar at 2am or so like in Thailand so that people could get some sleep, but no.

Also the aircon didn't work, and the bath drain smelt like a sewer. To make matters worse I ate dinner there as well and ended up with some sort of bacterial food poisoning (vomiting later at night). I just had to move out as the place was literally killing me. I ended up finding a great quiet place for $8usd in another area.

For me Walkabout hotel = never again. Though YMMV.

i stayed at flamingos twice before and my friend has a room there, so i am going with flamingos again. didn't have any noise in the room and had wifi in my room. this year it seems like ngo's are the latest worries. i don't fancy **** girls, so i'm not going to worry about it. if anything, i could just tell the girl to meet me in my hotel later. prostitution is legal in some parts of the us, canada and australia, so i don't see any big international crime going on with consenting adults doing their thing.

I've only eaten there once - as per the previous poster, I can't recommend it. However the beer is cheap and the atmosphere laid back. It's a fairly relaxing place to hang out 24/7. Security seems pretty good. You have to be picky with the rooms as they vary enormously. (Why would they give you the best one if you just accept what they give you?) Always ask to see a room before you pay - it goes for almost anywhere if you get the chance, unless you feel a psychological need to book ahead. The first room they showed me was awful. The second one quite acceptable. (And it's cheap). I didn't find out about the luxury rooms on the rooftop till I had explored thoroughly. The worst bit about walkabout was maybe the attitude of some of the gringos. They varied from (what I'd call) normal, to completely green, to looking like a leftover from the Vietnam-US war (as if they'd just gone awol and lived in walkabout ever since).

For something more upmarket, go a block and a half towards the river and you'll find an exquisite French owned, French run place with very good food, a bar that sparkles like you can see your face reflected in the polished glass, and staff and owners that have a real sense of class (in the good sense). If you speak good French you will probably become friends for life. But you do have to cross the main road.

Nearer walkabout there's a cheap-as-catnip place almost opposite which is Vietnamese run. Many of the rooms are very spacious, quite awesome value for money. Downside is if the owner couple have a domestic that leaves a bit of an atmosphere.

The Flamingo sucks IMHO but that is mostly cos it's not to my taste. Rooms I looked at were tiny, cramped and soulless. The whole place is like a bit of a cheap army camp hotel, trying to be a bit upmarket and failing miserably to spend enough money. But there again it is maybe the closest thing you'll find to a westernised (American-friendly) hotel in the area at a cheap price. You can recognise the things you'd look for back home at a cheap backstreet hotel which just about ticks the boxes (and quite ostentatiously so).

There's many in the area. No harm in shopping around. There's also many good places to eat. No now need to eat typhoid trap meals.

I think anyone knows that Phnom Penh is not exactly for beginners. You have to grasp the local realities quickly but also have a strong sense of who you are, how to be civilised and decent in a country that lacks civilisation (in terms of the person you are - not in the sense of demanding hot water and western efficiency). But you are not as invisible as it might at first seem. So do please show the world - fellow ISGs, NGOs, and the long-suffering Cambodians, that you have certain standards. We might be mongers, but by playing fair we can earn everyone's respect. There's a lot of good decent people in the country. I think like attracts like.

Fast Eddie 48I'm not a big fan of either Walkabout (the bar) or Heart of Darkness, so for me it's not any advantage staying in that area. The other little bars around there also don't grab me much. So actually, much better would be to stay near where there's good food, and again I don't think the Walkabout area is very good for food. So it seems like the riverfront or close to it (a short walk) is probably best. Used to stay at Dara Reang Sey back when I was watching my funds. Something like that but a tad more upscale would be good. Being able to walk outside and have lots of different restaurants to choose from would be good too. But staying at FLamingo, every time I get hungry I feel like I need to go to the other side of town if I wanna get something decent to eat. One look at the rooms at Walkabout was enough to scare me off of ever staying there.

The donors tightened their purse and now they are looking for numbers: they are into the drunk peasant Khmer who goes home after a drinking session and fucks his daughters. For one foreigner getting caught for debauchery there is a counterpart of 600 of them motherfuckers going to jail for such offenses. Usually they pay the family of the girl as a compensation to bail out. Which is pretty impossible for the westerner, which family becomes a source of income for jail guards, clerks, prosecutors, their clerks, lawyers and the NGOs themselves, who ask money from the offender to get out of trouble first.

Guys, stick to adult girls and do not go looking into troubles.

Hey Guys,

A mate has just returned from Cambo and wants to know what his girl is up to while he is not around. I'll be back in a couple of weeks but unfortunately she knows my face and can connect me with him. If anyone can check her out PM me and I'll send you a pic and more info.

I might have a chance to come over to Phnom Penh in a few weeks. What is the current bar status? Lots of hot women or are the police/NGO causing too much trouble for all business?

I'm still a semi-newbie going into, so if you have 3 days to party and pick up women, where would you go?

Is Sharkey's even worth going to or is it just a tourist trap? How about Street 104 and 136?

Thanks to all for such a great forum!

Just checking to see what the latest status in Phnom Pehm?

Is mongering fine or are all the women hiding from all the crackdowns lately?
Is Sharkey's worth a visit or is it just a tourist trap? How about street 104 and 136?

I have a chance to visit PP in a few weeks and trying to figure out if it's worth it or not.

Sharkies had s few nice girls last time I was there.

104 and 136 are fine, 104 is really lively at the moment.

Rose bar has tons of girls and 104 bar really good too.

Old mikado has some very keen young ladies, one told me recently that she would make me come in her mouth three times!

Don't know what she was getting at.

if you re in cambodia try to buy the dvd from khmer movie maker rithy pahn, "paper cannot wrapped charcoal" you could also find it under "le papier ne peut pas envelopper la braise"

in this movie report you have the case of a young girl raped by her father. one ngo convinced the girl to complaint against her father. the girl did it and the father was sentenced to 5 years jailed. after the sentence the ngo gave 1000 dollars to the girl and tell her good luck in the life.

but since whats happened the girl is rejected by all her family and all her village. she lives as hooker and the ngo doesn t care about her. now she goes every week to the jail to see her father in the hope her dad will forgive her. she also dream to live and care of him after his jail sentence.

btw in this report you will know a lot about p4p local scene if you listened carefully.; especialy about street 9 (and other place) see your last mail interesting also how ngo fight aids in cambodia. by just paid the coffin and not the medicine.

I've met NGOs in Cambodia who are traumatised with frustration. They're not all well-paid 'do-gooders.' But the frustration arises from a total lack of understanding. They go out there with the best of intentions and it's only when confronted with reality, when they see Cambodia through Cambodian eyes, that they realise how hopelessly ineffectual their well-laid plans will be. And by then it's mostly too late. And it happens in every area, right down to telling the Cambodians how to grow rice.

If you read textbooks or wikibooks on Cambodia - on something as simple as, say, the Pol Pot regime, then start investigating the truth once you're out there, you quickly realise how the picture of Cambodia in Western eyes is painted in sanitised colours that make sense of the 'world order' we have come to live with. The truth about the Pol Pot history, for instance, is far too unpalatable when the truth sinks in about the West's role. So we get the 'simplified' version. People go to Cambodia with not just insufficient information but wrong information. This goes for the monger who's only interested in his hole, for the NGO that wants 'to make a difference' and for the normal, decent human being who just wants to visit.

For people reading this whose interest in Cambodia goes beyond getting laid, can I earnestly encourage you to consider visiting Beat Richner's (http://www.beat-richner.ch/) Saturday night cello concerts in Siem Reap. it's one charity/NGO that knows what it's doing, decries the cack-handed attempts of the half-cocked NGOs in the country, and saves the lives of millions of children. 'Dr Beat' is a legend in Cambodia. Almost any tuktuk driver has heard of Beat Richner. If you want to give some money (or some blood) this is one place where it won't be wasted.

Sorry to go on. But for the many people maybe reading this that look beyond the surface, are suitably horrified, and feel helpless to help or even see a way forward for Cambodia, Richner is a strong light in a dark tunnel.

Re the last post about movies - haven't seen that one, the filmmaker concerned is a celebrated Cambodian director who has won awards from Cannes and Amnesty International. I was just drawing attention to the disparity between perception and reality across almost everything to do with Cambodia. If you mean the Pol Pot era, you can see this very easily - compare the well-documented and uncontested history in the many books and videos on sale in Cambodia with almost any Western account; or go back and read the earlier discussions on the forum; or PM me if you must. These things are much better appreciated by first hand investigation - then you see the evidence - raising it on the forum tends to encourage pointless speculation/arguments. Best wishes, Christopherd.

Yeah not a bad summation christopherd.

There is no doubt that the KR were murderous bastards but we bombed them into madness and then we supported them for nearly ten years at the UN.

In my opinion we committed a crime as great as the KR themselves in their heyday.

But we must move on.

I love the Cambodians still.

Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciated all the work you put into the maps in Indo.
A fellow ISG member and I returned recently and used many of your helpful info. Many thanks, owe you a beer (or 2).

Oh, back to your question. The answer is YES. I usually pick one up at the airport as there seems to be a new version of the map every year. If they are out of them at the airport, the Walkabout or the Flamingo hotels will have a few lying around also, so just go in and ask them at the desk.

Yeah let's forgive the genocide, it wasn't their fault after all. "They were driven to it by us." Groan. Is this the kind of weirdness Dr Richner is talking about? I guess the real blame for the holocaust falls to the Austrian art school professor who gave Hitler a C then. Yeah sorry guys, we live in a world where if you murder you own personal responsibliity for it. There's no get out of jail due to 'understandable madness' card. Re responsibility, who let North Vietnam set up active bases and the Ho Chi Minh trail inside Cambodia to attack south Vietnam from with a war going on a few miles away?

I dunno, maybe Dr B isn't saying anything like this. But this probably isn't the best place to discuss your unconventional opinion about a genocide. I think Christopher's first idea to keep it to PM for anyone interested was the wise way to go.

This doesn't have anything to do with loving Cambodian people or not, unless you're thinking of including guys who personally killed dozens of innocent pepole (incl women & children) on your list of loved ones. I'd just think it would be bizarre to think someone who was torturing and murdering should be forgiven or allowed to blame it all on someone else. If you need to look for a foreign contribution, werent' they Maoists?

Wendella, you're an experienced monger and a valuable contributor on this and other ISG forums, so I really don't want to antagonise you, believe me mate!

There's stuff I feel strongly about but am aware people easily misinterpret as anti-this or anti-that and when it comes to country politics everyone to their own, we're all visitors or ex-pats in Cambodia.

On the simplest level. without taking any 'position' on it, or saying whether it's right or wrong, there's a gulf between a general 'Cambodian' view of their history and the view held by the rest of the world. Just as there is in Hong Kong (tho in a different way) over what being a British colony was all about. Most historical accounts are selective on facts, even before they get to opinions and blaming.

The Cambodians as a nation, and this is one of the remarkable things for me, are one of the most kicked about nations and at the same time the least blaming of anyone. They just don't expend the effort. I think they're too busy trying to stay alive.

Currently the Thais are (and often have been) sh*ts in Khmer eyes. The Thais argue over territory and (like the rest of Cambodia's neighbours lol) usually win. The Vietnamese are the traditional enemies of Cambodia but in the good books these days as being the conquerers that at least expelled Pol Pot. (Frickin' sad really - their best friends are their least worst enemies.)

I am always curious about how other countries define themselves - and how well they back up their facts with undisputed evidence of course. At the evidence level, there's not that much disagreement. They seem to stop when it comes to the blame level. Just that we don't.

I think I'm right in saying that one of the literal translations of 'Siem Reap' is 'Siamese Flattened.' Imagine that. Their greatest treasure is also their greatest humiliation. I have never encountered a people that handle so many decades of defeat and humiliation with such tranquillity and even laughter. It is very puzzling at first.

Dr Beat Richner has sweet f.a. to do with politics of course. The NGOs he's critical of are the medical ones. He's also critical of most foreign medical models as he can prove pretty convincingly that his model is more cost-efficient in saving lives (happy to explain in detail but hardly appropriate here?). He's a national hero as he's set up three hospitals (the biggest afaiai in Cambodia) and all funded through donations, and saving millions of lives (esp TB and burns) through simple cost-effective measures. He's Swiss-born, so also a bit of a Swiss hero (having shamed his home country into donating pharmaceuticals). But one of his biggest contributions is the training progranms for Cambodian doctors (almost all staff are native Cambodian).

When you look at his organisation's set-up (and it's really worth looking at!), it's one of those reality-check moments. There's no denying what he achieves - your tuktuk driver probably sends his kids there for free Western-standards treatment - yet governments and NGOs have bureaucratic and political encumbrances that prevent them from doing so well. Whatever the rights and wrongs of anybody, there's a radically different version of what is real depending on your experience and evidence in front of you. There's no argument - just no crossover either.

So it's like that with the whole era surrounding Pol-Pot, and whatever words we choose they're wrong in some way or other. But experience is good. Going to the war memorials, the killing fields. Not to make any judgement. But just to find out things you can verify beyond any dount in your own mind.

Another big reality-perception gap was the massive (biggest in history maybe?) international and NGO aid program to establish democratic elections in Cambodia. So much effort. So much money. And the best laid plans of mice'n'men, politicians, NGOs - were a trifling thing to overthrow as soon as everyone left. And some of their efforts (when we take into consideration 'little things like problems of sexual abuse in many forms or the national economy') even made things worse.

Cambodia is a complex place that easily resists Western 'solutions.' I find that fascinating in itself. I'm not really into casting aspersions. Neither (remarkably I think) are they.

The question of the Pol Pot era and the back-to-basics f*cked-up communism-at-its-worst is a massively complex question that bedazzled the sh*t out of me for months. I sat down and wrote several timelines, comparing accounts and so on. Just to get my head round it. It's as complex as the Angkor Wat period of fighting the Chams, at least. There's so many divergent and equally sincere perspectives and they're all life-and-death valid. So getting hold of relevant facts and timelines without judging is a big enough job. There will always be someone who will say, 'they're to blame,' or 'no, they're to blame.' I've met people who were forced to kill-or-be-killed. Forced not just at gunpoint but watching their children's heads/brains smashed against a tree till they 'cooperated.' I've tried to interview war survivors and had to stop as younger relatives' eyes fill with tears at the pain of fathers' remembrances. There's a point where I don't give a flying f*ck who was right or wrong, just who can do some good.

I asked one man (a tuktuk driver I'd got to know over a period, one with a degree he would never use as well) after talking about the horrors Cambodia has lived through, if he hoped there would be a better day for his children when they grew up. I realised too late it was the sort of 'let's look on the frickin' bright side' -type question that we tend to round sad conversations off with in the West. He looked awkward trying to find an honest reply that was the kind of 'upbeat' one the question implicitly asked for.

Eventually he looked up, and said, "Maybe for my children's children." It was one (of many in my stay) saddest things I'd ever heard. Not only the lack of hope. But the complete acceptance of the lack of hope. And then they smile duh!

So I kind of puts things in proportion for me. I sit in that nice monastery a stone's throw from Walkabout. A nice day's shaggin' then we sit in silent meditation for an hour till a monk rings a little bell and says, 'Any questions?'

Not sure that you comprehend wendella.

Firstly the king was to blame for inviting the viets in, as he was to blame for much of cambodias recent problems(post 1953 I mean).

No democracy here, one can hardly blame the people.

He picked a winner and he was right, but it is obviuos to me that without sanctuaries in laso and Cambodia the viets were fucked.

Allied with this was the huge quantities of munitions coming up the highway from kompong saom, imported from China.

Probably about half the stuff the viets consumed came throught the parrots beak this way.

Why the US did not destroy the port or the highway beats me, they bombed the bejesus out of everything else.

Now the bombing, the Us had recently admitted that the bombing started in 65 not much later as we thought.

The B52 raids started in 1969 and the scale was awesome.

They bombed in boxes, something like 4ks wide and 12 ks long and one could not see the planes.

The say it drove people mad-well why wouldn't it. All the books say this and I know Cambodians who still have nighmares over the bombing.

The other thing it did was to drive over a million refugees into phnom penh where many died in the streets when the KR blockade was enforced.

I have been here over three years now and I speak with a lot of people in the bush and I think that I understand what happened.

You have a third category those coming in Cambodia for p4p or any other reason and fall in love with the country.

You don t need to make donation to "DR Beat" to have good conscience. You can simply do simple things by yourself. Like offering a meal to street kids, or offering board, pens, exercises books to a school, buy rice bag to orphan institution in the counrtyside. I ve heard hundred of story from simple anonymous " travelers" giving usefull donation. (sorry but since my experience with the khmer legend M. S I trust nobody in Cambodia)

Most of NGo come to Cambodia thinking they are God, they come to give lessons to poor rural farmer about how to grow the rice. But this farmer got his knowldege from his father, that keep it from his father, that keep it from his father.; and an NGO member come with his science and no single word of khmer language, telling him he know nothings. But what do the NGO? They give their technical lesson during 3 or 6 month and they told them goodbye living them in the same situation as they was before. So after their leave the farmer will come back to grow the rice like his ancestors did it. NGo are out of the real Cambodia

Come in any supermarket in Cambodia and look about goods made by Ngo in Cambodia? What you will find?: jam fruit, taco sauce, pasta sauce. Goods not in the khmer nutrition. But who care? They got credit from foreign government to do it. Money runs NGO as usual.

Rithy Pahn got award for his report about S-21. Which is not his best report. But Rithy Pahn is Khmer and show the present Cambodia through Cambodian eyes. He has view that barang will never get simply because we was not borned Khmer. Rithy Pahn let the ordinary Khmer talking about their present life simply; he s not against NGo. He ever got support from foreign government and some ngo.

Sure we can face the real Cambodia by ourself. But be carefull it take time, open mind and what we see is not often the truth.; (look the number of "Thailand expert" who are expert of nothing in reality)

Please note that almost all the history book about recent Cambodian past was writting by Barang. Not by khmer.; that could be the explanation of the "simpliest version"

Hehe, I guess I'm kind of a map freak :).. I see now that my old Phnom Penh map is outdated, but you told me before I could as well rely on the Canby map, thats why I asked.

I'll PM you when I'm in PP for that beer ;)

Cheers,
Barri

Actually, if you have one of the older maps of PP by Canby, it is still 90% -95% usable. The streets are the same on the newer maps, but the only changes are new bars or hotels will be on the new maps and older non-existing places will be deleted.
Hell, I still have an older map that shows the location of the famous BJ place Sophie , but new map will not have this as it no longer exist (sad).

I'll have to owe you that beer next time I make it back to Indo or PP as my vacation is over and I'm currently back at home and (arrgg: work) and watching the snow outside wishing I was back between some gals legs in the topical heat. Well, a man can still daydream until my next trip.

great post, Channy

didn't the angkor empire implode due to mishandling agriculture? maybe if some ngo's had been around then, things woulda turned out differently

looked like some pretty wide brush strokes in that post to me.... and didn't you just get done saying the cambodians dont' like to blame? that post seems to show opposite-- as did what i heard of Dr. B.

i bet if i did a quick search i'd find there actually are books written on these subjects by cambodians. and whether or not, what's wrong with foreigners writing about it? it seems less like sth foreigners can't understand as sth some people don't want scrutinized, esp by outsiders. Damage control in other words. Judging by the things i've heard about KR, and by translations of signs i read at S-21 and elsewhere, i actually dont' think we're talking about sth very complex but actually just the opposite. If anything, one's struck by the frightening simplicity of it all, and how obvious and crude it all is.

Whatever . . . Look, I don't know whether to continue the conversation, but if we do I think a separate thread would be called for (if enough people are interested). If not, I don't see much need to challenge Phil Istin's summary, and had actually written a longer more analytical response to what I thought was a good post by Channy - but lost it as I'm just typing on my phone. I'm happy to discuss it with you, I'm not sure how much I disagree with you (ie, a bit or a lot), but at what point are people going to say make way for p4p info??

Agriculture - afaiaa, in part. Also in part to overextension of resources in building programs - not that there's very clear records that far back and it has to be done by analysis and tested inference (eg Maurice Glaize's work). But NGOs can't usually do much about droughts and floods.

but some rather good ones IMHO

didn't you just get done saying the cambodians dont' like to blame? that post seems to show opposite-- as did what i heard of Dr. B.
Do maybe check him out - I posted the link - he's Swiss anyway. What's wrong in finding uplifting archetypes? Or do you prefer just to carp? What's the shared objective, if there is one?

well search away. And it's not about an author's nationality so much as the degree of scientific rigor.

well yes, especially if you just want go by translations of a few signs. Life and death can always be simplistic. And the PP regime was literally simplistic in concept. Whatever. The more you dig, the more you'll find.

I agree about that part, I didn't think it was a very good idea to get into this topic, either introducing it or continuing it.

At this point, I still think it's probably best to let this one fade to the background, and anyone wanting to continue on the topic to instead post it in PM to the person you think you want to address it to.

I'm done talking about this here, just hope no one else decides to add fuel to the fire again. Hoping this can be put to bed finally. If someone does do that tho, I also hope nobody decides to congratulate them for it. Cuz that also would add fuel.

Hi all,

I will be making my 1st trip to PP. Having read almost all the reports, I am still a little confuse and hope somebody can help me.

Where are the recommended places to get a massage and HJ? And what is the price that I should be paying. I do not want to be tricked or tempted into paying more. How long is each session and are these massage places clean and safe?

Thanks

ThanksNot a great country for massages this, Thailand is much better.

PP has quite a few places but quality and experiences vary widely.

Try sakura or the new york hotel or the heaven massage in st 136.

Probably pay a few dollars an hour for the massage and ten to twenty for the girls services.

Prepared to be disappointed though.

This is a country for free lancers and hostess bars and chicken farms.

Go to Thailand.

There are many massage place and fish bowl all over PP, many low end place around central market and 64th st 90 min massage is 10 USD FS will cost you another 25 USD tip, even a high end massage place in a 4 star hotel is only 25 USD and another 35 USD tip for FS, but I find the skill of the masseuse is not as good as in Thailand.

Took a trip to the Paris Hotel in the late afternoon, which was kinda fun. As I never have high expectations for massage with extras, the best thing I find is to approach it as a bit of fun.

Took the lift to the 3rd floor. Fishbowl had quite a few in it - about 20. Mostly Khmer but a couple of Vietnamese too, or so it seemed.

Picked one that did not have a number as she showed interest. In the room (which was a little less dingy and messy than I remembered), had the usual shower (warm) and she showered separately and was very shy. Then wrapped in a towel, she began the massage for about 10 minutes. Not much English, no BJ, no kissing and just a few tugs and massage to get me excited. Would not take the towel off and would not let me play with her either. But she did have a killer body as it turned out and no babies.

Tried her on top first, then doggie. By this stage she was really into it. Finished in mish and by then the towel had fallen off. She jumped up and ran for the bathroom. Came back wrapped up in the towel and then massaged me a bit more. Kept pampering me. With her very limited English and some sign language, she even asked me if we could become an item! She got dressed with her towel on. Paid $6 for one hour massage and gave her $20. Not really worth it but did not have change. Anyway she was tight and it was different.

Later that evening went to the Voodoo lounge on 104 and got almost the opposite treatment. This time I was not really looking for anything but was picked out by one of the girls. She cuddled me for an hour then, without being asked, began DFK and fondling me in the bar. Barfined her ($5) and we went to a guest house for $7 for two hours - I could not bring her back to my hotel as they know my family.

This one was a real tiger. BBJ was given without asking. And she really liked to kiss and wanted me to fuck her deep. She had two kids before but not much evidence of it. Did her two times but could not cum as had already done so with the massage girl and this one was not as tight. I would have been happy with one time but she insisted and had to get me going again. Only thing was she was a bit rough on the member. But very enjoyable all the same. Paid her $20 and gave her $1 for a modop.

Will be passing through PP on business. Would like a nice, clean place to get a good massage with HE. Mentioned 4 star hotels in previous posts. Any specific names as I doubt the one I'm staying at (raffles) will be on of them. Passing through for 2 days so not a lot of time. Then back to Korea.

To get right to the point of my post, I've heard that somewhere in Cambodia you can rent AK-47's and blaze away at various targets like old junk cars and such. True? If so I am so there as I think it would be great fun. After all, you have to have something to do while recovering for another session with the local talent...LDP

Yes there's many places. Think I reported on a PP one a while back, about an hour out of town on bad weather/traffic.

You just pay for the ammo. I found it disgusting, but something I wanted to try. The smell of the burning oil and the kickback are strong sensations. They will also provide a cow if you want to try a rocket launcher (not my taste).

Ask your driver for the Shooting Range. You can do the Killing Fields same trip as the direction's not a million miles away. Have some sensitivity for the driver's feelings when deciding which order to do them in.

The one I went to had standard targets for AK47s and similar. Old cars sound fun. Maybe a bigger weapon? Do you have a big wallet too though? ;)

It depends on how happy you want your ending to be. Don't bother too much with the massage places in the tourist areas. You may get HJ in the massage places off the beaten track or in some of the the large Asian style hotels. FS is available in Paris Hotel (Kampuchea Krom road) or Luxury World Hotel (Monivong) and I assume that HJ is also available but probably not BJ - FS is generally available in any place you find that has a fish-bowl. There is also a kind of fishbowl around the corner from Walkabout where FS maybe available but I am not sure if it is still open for business. Let me know if you find more places with fishbowls.

For cleanliness and if you are not worried about paying up extra cash, go to the Luxury World Hotel. Only go into the place that has the fishbowl - I think there is a legit massage place there too but cannot remember. Ask for a VIP room (extra $3, I think). Khmer girls are the cheapest for tips but the last time I was there the Khmer girl was not happy with the $20 I offered for FS and was only marginally happy with $25.

I have had very mixed experiences in massage places in Cambodia - in one very basic place I asked for HJ and was firmly turned down. I immediately thought that I was in the wrong kind of place. Then the girl said firmly "only boom-book." But that was a hole in the wall place in Sihanookville, now closed.

I also got FS/HJ in places where you never expect it and nothing at all in places where you would think there is a good chance of something. I recently went into a bar that also offered massage - dingy room but ok. Nothing was offered but teased the girl a bit and got FS and DFK. FS may not be normally available there as the girl told me no way for boom boom as no condoms were available. When I pulled out my own condoms, she immediately agreed without naming any price. But she asked me to keep quiet about it with the management. So I think there they are only supposed to do HJ. I paid her $20 and she was very happy with that.

LDPYou go to the military base out past the airport, about twenty minutes in the tuk tuk. There is an outside range for handguns and an inside range for machine guns.

It costs about $1. 20 a round which is not bad.

One can shoot a chicken or duck for a few dollars extra, and one can throw hand grenades into a pond.

One can not shoot a car.

But the rounds are all reloaded and often jam so remember that this is Cambodia.

One can still hire a cow for about $200 and shoot at it with a rocket launcher.

LDPI went with my driver to this place last month. It is not a rumour. For $40 you can fire off an m16, an ak47, and a shotgun among other things. I opted for the good ole M16. It was my first time shooting anything and it was loads of fun. I recommend the single shot setting as rapid fire will be done in like 5 minutes. I was not offered any targets like cows, or chickens, though I understand that this was possible a few years back. Be sure to buy your memento t-shirt when you are done. Enjoy.

By the way, check out somaly's and avoid 63rd street unless you want to waste money.

i assume they rent out the chinese made b-40 rocket-propelled grenade launcher, the one you see a lot in iraq. i've seen up close the armored front of an apc melted like wax, when hit by this rocket at close range.

unless the cow was running around at high speed, it's hard to miss within 200-300 yards.

if it hits the target, the shape charge would have a small entry hole, but would tear a large exit hole on the other side, practically blow away most of the cow.

$200 is a very good price for a cow. they must be renting it again and again, and selling a lot of rpg rounds to the frustrated mongers.

They rent out whatever they've got. Chinese, Russian, American, anything. This is Cambodia. And if it has fallen off the back of a dodgier-than-usual-looking lorry, you may get it cut-price or half-price, as I did. And if you're an Iraq veteran you'll probably tell me that's not very safe. Of course it's not. Like I said, this is Cambodia. Enjoy.

Also the M-16 on full auto (rapid fire) will empty the magazine in several seconds, not 5min.

And yes, chickens can still be rented out for target practice at one of the ranges (not sure if all ranges provide this service). Cows are also available but from past experience, they must be reserved in advance. But as stated, this hobby is NOT cheap. I never reserved a cow but if its going for $200, then thats the price of 10 gals LT. Hmm, a cow or 10gals, tough choice.

I've been living here for a few months so I will try and write full report.

First, the language. Thankfully it is not tonal as in thai, so it is not that bad to pick up. Try and learn a few phrases and the number system, it will help out.

Moto - general prices are( day or night, there should be no difference.

Sharky - riverside 2000 real
Riverside to heart/walkabout - 1 dollar
Riverside to martine - 1.5 dollar
Martine / heart 1 dollar
Riverside / Soriya market 1 dollar

Airport - riverside 3/4 dollars max, if tuk asks for more tell them to take a hike.

These aren't the cheapest prices and you can negotiate.

If a moto will not take your price ask the next guy.

The freelancer bars/clubs

Pontoon - now closed

Sharkys 130st, busy after 8pm lots of variety, lots of vietnamese girls here, clears out (ish) after 11 where the girls go elsewhere. Sharky girls try and add 5 dollars plus to the prices at walkabout. Drinks are cheap.

Walkabout 51st, its a shithole, but the food is good, the girls are cheap and they have 3 pool tables and its open 24hr. Lots of girls on ice and yama, so be warned. General prices are 15 dollars during the day for short time, 25 for long time. Some cute girls here. Be wary as a few guys taking girls back to ther place have had things stolen or been drugged. Hide your stuff. Drinks are cheap.

Heart, 51st. Lots of freelancers, they dress up a bit here. Busy after 11:45/12, so do not bother. Friday and Saturday the girls have to pay to get in unless with a guy. Lots of ngo twats and nigerians selling drugs (no i am not racist, it's what they are doing). Quite a few gay kmer guys and ladyboys so be warned. Kmer guys tend to push past you, so don't start a scene or get uptight. Lots of security around. Drinks are cheap.

Martine. A fair old whack away. There are a couple of moma sans operating here. Large beer garden, 2 bars (one in the club one in the beer garden) nice variety of food. Drinks are more expensive than the other freelancer places. Lots of vietnamese girls, be wary of being offered a "young" girl, ask her age and confirm id. Age of consent for kmer/barang is 18 so ask to see id if you can verify !!! Can be busy as early as 10pm.

Hostess bars. I like hostess bars, but it can be very hit and miss as the hostess is not obligated to go with you and some may even be virgins (yes i know...)

Main strips are 51st, 136, 108, 104, 130

There are a few well known hostess bars that offer short time rooms or bj's, need to ask a local moto or a local barang, wont put the names up in case they get closed.

You CAN pick up girl in a kmer club, but you need to speak a certain amount of kmer, be able to to take things slow a bit with the girl and ignore the kmer guys who try and cock block you - nearly all behave like immature assholes, and they can't dance, lol. Very funny to watch, just for the amusement factor.

PM me for further info if you want or meet for a night on the town.

Hi,

I am trying to find a map on the hotels in Cambodia. Anyone can recommend me a hotel that is good and have a fishbowl? I heard that the walkabout and flamingo hotel cannot make it but the location is good.

Are they any other hotels near these places but is a good hotel?

Prices will vary for the gal you pick, but in general, this was about the cheapest LT price you could negotiate for and some will be a bit higher, but that will depend on if you are willing to pay 10-15 more for her and If she's worth it to you- so totally up to you.

The internet tells me that the middle price Green Hotel is located right next to Walkabout - perhaps by the same owner? That tells me the location is ideal. Has anyone tried it? Is it GF? (probably a silly question)
