You can get world population statistics from the US Census Bureau in various forms. I like the country-by-country summaries that are available at this link <http://www.census.gov/ipc/www/idbsum.html>.
Here is some summary information on the approximate number of young women (aged 17-26 in 2007) in each of the following countries:

To get these numbers, I simply added the number of women in the 15-19 and 20-24 age groups. Since those numbers were presented for 2005, I simply assumed these gals are 2 years older in 2007.
The Census Bureau gathers the population data in various other ways as well. Using a regional aggregation for 2005, here are how many women are in the 15-24 age group (17-26 years old in 2007):

I think its interesting to consider the relative number of young women in different countries/regions. It would be interesting to get a breakdown by language group but, from the above, it would seem best for English-speaking mongers to study Mandarin, Indian, Spanish and Portuguese. Of course, such numbers only present a piece of the mongering puzzle. One should also factor in HIV statistics as well as cultural, economic and legal information... along with personal preferences.

I've been serching the internet for some hotel for my trip in china, and the choice is incredible.
I'm looking for an hotel in shanghai and one in beijin that are not too expensive (On the net I've seen hotel in the 50-60 dollars range) and most of all are girl friendly.
I've seen some hotel here in the forum that are nice, but a bit too much for me, can anyone suggest me some better alternative?
I'll be in hong kong in the middle of april and from there I will go to mainland after few days.

Out of curiosity I had to do this test. The Okamoto 0.03 is quite expensive. Durex has a normal import price.
The conclusion (for me) is that the Okamoto 0.03 is better (and thinner). But the Durex comes close. I will keep the Okamoto 0.03 for those "special" moments and use Durex Featherlite for everydays use.

The disease is most prevalent amongst those in particular high-risk groups, like commercial sex workers and men who have sex with men. In those groups, as many as one in ten to one in five has syphilis, according to some of China's top specialists.
But syphilis is also spreading quickly in the general population. An area of particular concern is the surge in congenital syphilis - the number of babies born with the disease, after contracting it in utero from infected mothers.
It is reported that about 3,400 Chinese babies are being born each year with congenital syphilis. The figure has risen dramatically since 1991 - by more than 70% each year.
Syphilis is an aggressive and dangerous disease in itself - but Dr Cohen says its rise also has wider implications, giving a sense of the rapid spread of other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) too.
"If we are seeing syphilis spread, we have to be concerned that other STDs are spreading as well," he told the BBC.
"Also we have reason to believe that syphilis helps to drive HIV. So we have to be concerned that untreated syphilis will amplify the spread of HIV as well."
'Deeply conservative'
So why is there such dramatic spread? It is being fuelled in part by rapid social change.
The large numbers of migrant workers in China, increasing prostitution and more extramarital sex - along with low condom use - are all key factors.
The need to pay for health care now may deter people from getting early tests and treatment.
Chinese society is still deeply conservative with little open discussion about sex at any level.
That severely inhibits the exchange of information at all levels, from within families and sexual relationships to information campaigns in schools, universities and in the media.
There may even be a biological reason too for the rapid rise.
Chinese adults, who are sexually active now, had no exposure to syphilis for decades. Some scientists say that has left today's population with very little immunity to it. »»»

Hello all,
Just found this forum and I must say I am enjoying reading about your exploits and perusing the odd pic or two.
Where I am I don't have very much contact with non chinese people at all. In fact, where I am there ARE no foreigners. I am it. Hahaha. I'm sure you've all experienced the stares etc etc But at least in the main centres the locals have probably seen at least one other foreigner before you. The villagers from round where I am prolly haven't even seen one on TV - IF they have a TV that is :-)
Not only am I a foreigner, I am somewhat gigantic compared to the locals. I am 6 ft 2 and about 280 pounds with size 13 feet. Now I am definately not ugly or completely unattractive but I have to tell you the self confidence has taken a little bit of a knock on account of the open mouthed gawking.
Sheesh, at the supermarket you'd think I was a naked Jackie Chan giving myself a BJ the amount of attention I get. Its all a little freaky as I am used to blending in.

I have not been anywhere like that, but from what I've read, they will be both scared and curious. Find the curious ones and ensure that you are in a private area as by the sound of it, they would be extremely cautious in being seen with you. i had travelled to many part of the world using my qq to communitcate. these countries includes, japan, phillippines, indonesia, india, eastern europe, usa, uk, etc... i had never had problems with speed or not been able to connect to qq.

As I see it, you did not have much choice. Did you try to turn off her phone? Did she keep answering it? Did she leave finally?
In these situations, I just chalk the experience up to bad luck and cut my losses. She probably set it up purposely using the calls as an excuse to cut out early, who knows? In any case, when you get into that situation and ask them to stay, their attitude and service always sucks anyway. This is why I almost never do LT unless I know the girl fairly well.

I have said before that we should ALWAYS tell the girl to turn off her phone before agreeing to take her. If she cannot turn it off, then do as AG says and ask her to remove the battery.
Her phone was locked.
#1 You do not want others to know where your room is.
#2 You do not want her having a chit-chat while she is working for you.

Phones can always be switched off, it's only the girl's unwillingness to do so which will prevent that from happening. Some of the working conditions for these girls are quite tightly controlled, so I accept that some may need to have it on (during a ST or during the first hour or two of a LT).
A phone is never truely 'locked' while the power is on, its only the keypad which is locked. Some people just want to fool themselves. I have a friend who have been traveling to Philippines, Thailand, China, etc for the past 20 years so he is not a newbe. He is in his late 50s however he really believes that a Philippine student about 20 years old is really in love with him. It just tells you that if someone really wants to live in a dream world, there is nothing you can do about it. Just waiting for the heart break that will come sooner or later.

Took a tour of the redlight areas of Kota Kinabalu, Borneo, Malaysia. Quality is not as good as China and the prices are much higher. Mostly Filapinas and plenty of ladyboys. if you are considering bringing in personal toys... leave them at home. china have many shops that sells them over there. this way you will not get embarass when the custom officer checks your baggage.
china custom officers at airport rarely checks the baggage as you are entering china. they do check carry on as you are leaving china.

You might have a problem bring it back home. Can you be more specific on what are the items?
China border customs routinely ask you to put your bags on the x-ray machine. If the items you bring show up on their scanner you may have a problem and you will be asked to explain.
If it does not show up there is no checking.
I was taking some machinery supplies and they asked me what it was and I told them I was trying to get a factory to produce them and they cleared me with no problem.

Once I arrived with 5 new and empty Harddisk drives, there was no way I could convince them, so I took it back the next day. There is a storage fee though. In this case it was 40 RMB. (And I have seen many other people rejected the same day. Just a bad day when they were overactive checking.
A problem arises when that happens when you arrive in an airport where you can't just go back and try another border the same day.

I have never been stopped at Pudong airport. But, that is not to say they won't stop you. I have seen people get inspected.

The Chinese New Year seems to be a bad time for traveling out for mongering. I had just got into Shenzhen, checked into my hotel 2 hours ago. I took out my list of contact numbers of pimps, mummies and KTV managers; started calling them to see if they are still good on their girl’s supplies. Should never count on buying any high-tech supplies on the road, including big cities in Europe, Asia, South America... left alone some podunk town in China. You should pack all the supplies you ever need,or you will waste a lot of time looking and never finding.
Better yet, use digital cameras to save on the high costs of film and processing. The new SLR digital cameras are now equiped with 1Mil pixel sensors, which far exceed the resolution of the finest lenses on the market. So what's the point of using slides? If National Geographic can use digital equipment for their photo shoots, it should be good for most uses, unless one plans to photograph the pubic areas in extreme high-resolution close up -:)).

i guess when you ask a question in a venue such as this, you are opening yourself up to every crackpot who thinks he knows something. but in the interest of furthering the knowledge of those who are interested in truth, i will say that one wing low's advice, although appreciated, is bullshit.
why i prefer slides over digital is my business. but his knowledge is flawed. the lens is not what determines resolution. any decent lens on the market today is capable of resolving much finer detail than can be captured even using a 10 mega pixel ccd (the device in a digital camera on which the image is captured). the resolution of a particular sensor and how much detail it is capable of showing is a complex issue, beyond the scope of this forum.
but it is generally agreed that digital photography is not quite able to surpass film photography yet. the reason national geo and other publications use digital is not that the quality of the photos is better. the reasons have to do with economics and with speed and ease of transmission of digital images vice images on film.

I am sure there are 35mm color slide films in the city but would it be there at the shop that you will visit? That seems to be a more relevent question. i don't post much; however do have good intentions to my input to you. esp since i feel at times to be an archaic dinosauer, who still uses film, carries the variety of lenses that i prefer etc, etc.
personally, i use kodachrome to enhance colors and generally never exceed 100 asa. personally, i stay in the low 20 and 30 asas. for excellent quality, i suggest that you bring the supply of film you want and have it developed in the us or wherever through kodak approved labs.
for the remainder of films (e. g. ectachrome, etc), china does have labs that can develop, mount, prepare contact sheets, etc. however, this will be in labs in more major cities. the province you are speaking of, i don't have any experience there. obviously, you will have to do some research to find a quality lab. i once asked for a referral from the hotel manager who gave me a referral to a "so-so" lab. results were satisfactory, but not great. i personally suspect the development, bleaching chemicals, were off (out of control limits) at the lab. this note obviously leaves off the typical "mom and pop" and atypical chinese labs for your film
on a personal note, i’m generally in the sichuan and hainan provinces. at a particular point of time, i had needs of a high quality lab. inspiration hit me and i approached a reputable wedding photo shop. i talked with several of the photographers, who indeed use digital photography for their work. many of the photographers are college students and aspiring photography artists. they have the theory of film, lenses, filters and what-not down in schools. however, most of them have never had the chance to use it in the "real working world. " they were fascinated by the camera’s and equipment i had brought with me, special effects that could be done, etc, etc. this led all of us to have a lengthy discussion of pros and con’s of photography of our own styles. this discourse can lead to other nightime ventures e. g. getting your "plowshare cleaned" with a freebie, a night on the town of debauchery. in the end, they gave me a very reputable lab, which i still use when in china. i have had very good work done by this lab. unfortunately, this again brings up the question of locale where you are.
if you are using film to be developed in the us or wherever, when you exit china i suggest:
1. mailing the film out, in lead lined envelopes (easily obtained from any photo supply) and marked with do not x-ray photo film. there still is the chance that it could be confirep001ed for alleged "state secrets. " i generally send so-so genre film out this way and haven’t had any problems over the past five years. be aware that lead linings will not help for the 3000 plus films.
2. have a photo log made (nothing classy), just a small log to show customs in the case that you are stopped and questioned. i have been stopped only once and officials questioned as to film contents. i showed them the log, briefly explained what i had. they passed me through with no further complications. i had larger problems when they examined my photo equipment to insure no duty free and/or restricted items. as a side note, if the photographs are for the cultural aspects of jackson’s photo gallery ("wink-wink"), i don’t have much experience or advice here. this begets two problems;
1) getting the photographs through customs. low wagering odds, but odds nonetheless.
2) having "cultural" aspects of china being developed and having an "eager-beaver" chinese zealot, not making duplicates and/or calling the local police. this is in the distinct realm of reality. i once owned a photo lab. customers would approach me to insure honesty. i would accompany their film through the entire processes to insure that duplicates weren’t made. prior to my ownership from a previous owner, this practice of duplicating by operators/technicians was a routine and not out of the ordinary. "food for thought! "

This a follow-up of the post that I made and didn't cover this aspect. My apologies sir.
IMHO, I personally would bring a supply of film with me. Most esp the fast ASAs. These films become quickly outdated and the results are evident over time since a haze will devlop over time that will be incorporated in the end product. For the low ASAs, I would suggest the same. There are times when film is repackaged, when it has gone beyond the expiration date. You are not really sure how long it has been on the shelf in China or wherever.
I would opt on the side of caution. JMO

LexLutherI don't know about Jilin but I know that slide development is possible in larger, more dedicated photolabs but you may have to ask around. Just ask for "e liu" (E6).
I would not expect to be able to get much selection for film though. Even pro C41 films are hard to find in China. Much better to bring in your own supply or maybe get it shipped in from HK.

I am debating if I should get a tourist of business visa. If I apply for a tourist visa in the Philippines (I am a US citizen), will there be any problems that I am traveling alone. I was denied boarding a flight for China as I didn't have a visa. I posted the story in the Shanghai board, but my question is more appropriate for this board.
I am debating if I should get a tourist of business visa. I was planning on taking a bunch of business supplies with me and getting a business visa, but since my contact is away for the rest of the week, and I assume he will be quite busy once he returns, it could take a while before I can an ivitation letter from him (which I apparently need for a business visa).
If I apply for a tourist visa in the Philippines (I am a US citizen), will there be any problems that I am traveling alone. Will they think that I am just going to China to bang women and deny my visa? I figure that once you are denied a visa, you will always be denied, so I don't want to make any mistakes.
I've traveled on a tourist visa and a business visa to China. On all occasions I was there for business. I think it is a bureaucratic distinction that means nothing at the border, or in the application process. A business visa means you need a letter of invitation from your company in China. A tourist visa needs nothing.
But if you plan to go to China on business a lot, I suggest getting the invitation letter, and getting the business visa. Once you've done it once or twice, you can easily apply for a longer multi-entry visa (like for a year or more, 30 day limits per visit) that are very convenient.

it’s become a condom war (in hk anyway) and i had the opportunity to try out several new condoms recently. as you can see in the pics, there are 4 different condoms that i’ve been using over the past few weeks/months. besides the original okimoto 0.03 condom, i have not seen the other three types available in mainland china. here are my findings:
1. “okimoto 0.03” are undeniably thinner than the average condom and this latex condom has a superior in fit and feel over regular condoms and most premium condoms. some well-endowed mongers have said these are not big enough/too tight but i would guess most guys wouldn’t have any problems. it costs $76 for a 10-pack in hk. some mongers have spotted them in mainland china.
2. “okimoto 0.03 real fit” this latex condom somehow it feels a bit thinner than the original 0.03 and the main feature is the bulbous tip to mimic the shape of a cock’s head. they are noticeably more roomy than the original 0.03 condoms so those who like the 0.03 feel but want a bigger condom can buy this one. not really any different from the original 0.03 besides the new shape of the tip and i would make a repeat purchase since they cost $103 hkd for a 10-pack.
3. “durex avanti ultima” is made from a synthetic material called polyisoprene (not polyurethane) and it didn't feel as thin as the 0.03 condoms when i put it on, but during fucking these condoms felt as sensitive and as thin as the 0.03. the condoms are very comfortable and soft, and after two experiences, i’ve decided that i would choose them over either 0.03 type condoms, they are that good. a 10-pack was $74 hkd, i think.

I'm sure the 0.05 are legit, too, but it's the fact that they are selling the condoms in a silver-metallic box and promoting "0.05" as something special a la Okimoto even though I think the average "1 RMB public wall-dispenser condom" is about 0.05-0.06 mm. I read this in FAQ:

We know this is the rule, which was changed by Jackson 2 or 3 years ago.

I gave up using hotels a few years ago. I don't need their services, and I don't pay for them when using a service apartment. In Shanghai, I get a nice, clean apartment for 600RMB. It's two bedrooms, with a full kitchen supplied with cooking equipment, eating and a living area, plus a meager breakfast is included. Internet is free, albeit slow at times.
Guests have never been a problem in the 5-6 different apartments that I've used.

Now, while I have never met Moody (although I hope to someday), from his posts and what people have commented about him, it's not hard to tell that he's well-educated, polite and civilized person.
This "poor guy," on the other hand, berated hotel staff in a loud and obtrusive manner, enough for other people to find annoying, for a very correctible mistake. When the staff folded the fax and put it in an envelope, obviously that was their way of being polite and helpful. EVEN IF, that wrinkled his fax, which he didn't want, all he had to do was politely ask them to make a copy, which I'm sure they were more than happy to do.
In the VERY UNLIKELY chance that folding the fax ruined it, then he had better ways of dealing with it then just yelling at the staff. That is unprofessional, rude and ignorant. I have seen many likes of him in my life, those who think that just because they come from a country with higher standards of living (a statement which should be taken with a grain of salt, as China has 299,500 US$ millionaires, which considering what a US$ million can do in China vs. US, is astounding), they can treat people without respect and courtesy. He's a stereotypical bully, strong against the weak, and coward when someone actually stands up to him. All this is, I hope, very apparent from the statements he made to Moody, and the way he acted.
I have absolutely no sympathy for the likes of him, and I sort of wish that the story ended with Moody kicking the crap out of him (although I do not tolerate violence either).
And I am somewhat perturbed by the continuous defense you are making for that guy, as well as Guiness. But I do agree that if the racial discussion was going to be deleted, Moody's should have been as well.

I think Moody's use was in describing what he had witnessed and giving an good example of an Ugly American.
But I don't think that the use of Ugly American is as bad as some racist remarks. Ugly American is more of a description of behaviour based not on race. Maybe we can all assume that Ugly American are white rednecks. But there was Asians, Blacks and Hispanics that are American and are Ugly Americans too. Needless to say, there are also Ugly Chinese out there too.

The girl used good CS, the guy used poor Human Relations practices!! Had this idiot acted like this in the States, he would have been nursing a broken nose before he could get the word **** out of mouth the second time.
The staff at most all hotels in China (especially the Shangri-La) bend over backwards to make the customer happy, she acted in a professional manner and did what she was trained to do with the fax. The guy on the other hand, went far beyond being upset at the "folded" fax and verbally assaulted her using profanity and racial slurs.
I am glad Moody called this guy out, he is an honorable man. Had I been there, I would have probably drug his ass to the bathroom and kicked the shit out of him there (easier to clean up the blood and I respect the cleaners as well). For 20 years as a member of the US Armed Forces I traveled around the world and it never ceased to amaze me at how many arrogant, "I am better than you, bow down to me" and pompous fucking attitudes some Westerners (especially Americans) have towards other races.

This whole incident probably would have died out after the CSR taking a few more curses (again, that's part her job description to handle such events) if not Moody had stepped in with his obviously lacking interpersonal "skills" trying to "save a sister". Why not just leave it and let the obviously stupid customer run out of air or die of high blood pressure, whichever happens first? Time is too dear to spend on stupid people anyway.
True, customer service is usually very "smooth and servile" on the surface in Asia, but when it comes to doing things right they will often do it wrong backwards rather than bend over backwards to do it right.
And I must be a lucky guy since I almost exclusively meet helpful, nice westeners in Asia, who never have threatened to kick the shit out of me in the bathroom. Obviously, I haven't meet szexpat yet.

I go there every weekend on Fridays and Saturdays to teach English to high school students. So far I hooked up with the assistant manager of the hotel I stay at and I have used the in room massage girls but all the have is just 4 girls and they are not pretty at all. Only one is half descent. I have been looking around bit I do not see any 3-floor suanas like I have in Shenyang.

and since you reported about your background, i can briefly mention that i do also have some background in security, both military and private, although it's a long time ago. in the private part (no pun intended) i actually led a small team in charge of the security of a mid-sized establishment. to the best of my recollection, most of the "issues" were resolved quite peacefully (or with minimal corrective assistance) regardless of nationalities or races involved, thanks of the team's excellent interpersonal skills. the few guys we had to turn over to le were mainly knife-touting young men with middle eastern background, and maybe the odd local druggie, and i have to admit in those rare cases, even our best verbal skills would not have cut it. so of course it's correct to resort to violence, when the other options have been exhausted, to that i do agree. now let's put this to rest. over and out.

PNIndeed, you must have been lucky; twice within the last 6 month (3 trips to Guangdong) have I observerved obnoxious behavior by customers in a hotel lounge. Once because too much head on the beer, the other because the 85 pound waitress couldn't get a cork fast enough out of a wine bottle.

Yes, she does look pretty good for the asking price. Just to put things into perspective (my liang fen's 0.02 worth): An elementary school teacher with a bachelor's degree teaching in the public school system in the northeast makes a little under RMB 1000 a month. Because of past and still flaming activities against some members, new members should show their contribution to the board first to be invited or a real life contact continued. When you get requested/expected information from a member about locations and local market rules, respect the rules, respect the member who gave you this information.
"Local market rules" also includes prices we pay and you also should pay. Members overpaying local prices are disrespectful. Disrespectful to the local rules and more to the member(s) who gave this information. It's not a matter of "Hey..you can not afford it? I can...", no it's a matter of respect.
Members who are acting disrespectful will not get any support! This especially points to members who are overpaying and reporting about this with pride or members never contributed to the forum!

Here is a something funny.
I went to a legit foot massage recently, the Masseuses started as per normal with foot bath and follow by the foot massage. We chatted along during my foot massage and she knew I am single. Traveling during the summer is the most expensive time to travel. It’s summer vacation and then school out. Next traveling during X-Mas and during Chinese New Year are bad. But for Chinese New Year, it’s is only effects travel around Asian.
I think If Bill’s friend just left one month early, he could have saved about 400USD. For Fast Eddie’s of 875USD, I think I saw that deal too but I it’s only for SFO and for the month of March/April. It's nolonger on Cathy Pacific's website. They do have something from SFO/LAX/JFK to China now for April's specials.
I believe Singapore Air has a deal now for SFO. The travel times are from 2/13/07 to 05/23/07 for $832 final total. I did not see anything else for other US cities to China. Please check the website to verify the information. The prices also changes from day to day and each city is different. Last year, I recall, they has a deal on Singapore Air. Two week later the price went up a little but the deal did not expire. Therefore, it’s best to check.
Suggestions for other type of deals? If you travel with another person ( double occupancy ), going to a travel agent in a local USA/Canada Chinatown has some great deals. There are flyers posted on front of their stores advertising flights to Asia, Europe, Japan etc. But if you are traveling alone, then it’s not worth it because you have to pay a surcharge. The surcharge is additional 150-200USD. The airlines will sell rows and rows of seats to the tour companies. The tour companies will a get large discount. In turn they will sell them to travel agents. Including in the airfares are 3-5 days of hotel. In LA and SF you can get deals with hotels to Hong Kong/Shaighai/Beijing even NOW for during the summer for about 1000-1200 USD total. They are great deals if you consider the prices for 3-5 star hotels in these cities are from 100 to 200USD a day.
With these deals are restrictions, like cancellations, and number of days allowed to stay. The number of days is usually 30 to 45. Last, like all great deals they fill and end fast. Remember each airline and city have they own deals and the phases, YMMV applies He..he...
You can be an air courier. You help companies bring documents and packages on your flight. You are only allowed to carry one carry on bag. The price was $500USD during the summer from LAX to HK about 5 years ago. The normal airfares at the time were around 800. During non peak travel times, it can be as low as 400USD. However, since 911 everything changed.

You cannot get Contraceptive Pills in 7-11 but you can get them in Pharmacy throughout China. The "Day Pill" can also be bought from the Pharmacy. In Dongguan you can obtain them also from Adult Health Shops. This shops also sell sex toys.

i should say the speed was impressive as i never think it would be possible for such connection 30000 - 40000 ft up the the air! but if you are to compare it to 512kbps asdl in usa, you can say... there are rooms for improvements. i am better off comparing to asdl in china, not realiable and varies in speed. the isg main page took 1 min to load.
i was in business class, i wasn't asked to pay anything. been wireless, i assumed that it is open to all classes, as the connection was 802.11g. with that you can go up to 100ft at 54gbps without blockage.

connection was fairly robust and when isight came out, many apple users would broadcast from 5 miles up....although never saw anyone actually post from the '5 mile club' :)
