Sorry you made it all the way out there and came away empty handed! I'm assuming that you did find the intersection I talked about with the Marco Polo Hotel on the SE corner. From there, walk north on the LEFT side of the street. Unless they closed it, the KFC should be about ~150 meters north of the intersection. Go about 100-150 meters past it, and it should be there on your left hand side. I remember it had a big gaudy fixture and RED carpeting, with two staircases that lead you down to the basement level.
Your second time snooping around, you should be more persistent and walk into every big-looking doorway past the KFC. There'll be no harm to it, as they'll just assume you're a laowai looking for directions. You know you've hit the money when you enter into a large glass doorway, walk down the stairs, and come to a lobby area with a LARGE poster of a topless chick behind the counter. Facing the lobby counter, there should be a buffet line to your left and a sitting area on your right. Give the (male) attendant the sign for FS with an inquisitive look about you, and he'll take care of you from there!
On future hunting outings, don't be so shy with poking your head into places. If you suspect the sauna/MP/BBS offers additional services, just give the proper hand gesture for whatever suits your mood. The worst you'll get are a bunch of giggles. It's a shame that trick doesn't work for me, because I'm ethnically Chinese, they'll just think I'm some sort of perverted deafmute!

I've got a couple of weeks in Beijing now, after comming up from Shanghai.
Took a wonder down that way the other day, but couldn't find the right place. I will admit to not actually walking through any of the glass doors after KFC. As I speak no Mandarin I couldn't see anything obvious from the street. Is it past what looks like an Indian bar or club? Is is before or after what looks like the enterance to either a hotel or office? (Quite a grand enterance above street level.)
I'll have another look down there this weekend, and will report on my sucess or failure. I'm not holding my breath being CNY an all.

Please don't apologise. Without your report, I would not have even looked down that street. I managed to find the corner exactly as you described it. I even remember seeing the red carpet, and thought that was probably the place. The reason that I didn't go for a closer look was that there was an LE type with a walkie talkie hanging around in the carpark out the front, next to a passat with dark tints. So I thought, discretion being the better part of valour, I'd come back another day.

I even remember seeing the red carpet, and thought that was probably the place.Just a comment - I visited the place after Wonker's post and found it exactly as he described. If you go at night, it's actually easy to miss it as it's right beside this really brightly light restaurant (spotlights on a large white front). The sauna entrance itself is pretty small compared to this.
Other than the red carpets, one other distinctive feature were the paintings on the wall at ground level. I thought I had walked into a church by accident - angels and religious looking images.
I went there on a Sunday night and it was packed - all locals. The bathing facilities weren't anything great - I just showered and moved on to the main course. After the shower, I headed over to the massage area (where people were seated on chairs getting a massage) then asked the guy behind the counter for what massage services they had. With a knowing smile, he led me toward the rooms before asking what I wanted. I asked for quan2tao4 (full service) and he led me to a somewhat more isolated area.
By luck, I got #56 that Wonker was talking about (found out her number after time was up). Agree with his description and she kept on going until time was up. Works quite hard at making sure you're satisfied, though it helps if you give her feedback on what you want. Ok looks, but small, tight figure with good technique.
The 820RMB service was more than enough. I was told that most customers don't really enjoy the red ropes service that comes with the more expensive package and she didn't try to upsell to that.

Yesterday 13:00, I went to the venue described by Wonker, the sauna north 4th ring road next to Marco polo hotel Anli Lu.
The directions Wonker gave were just perfect. Easy to find. Downstairs 2 posters, the right one with a half naked woman, the left one with a nice back of a women with string. Right hand side the seats, left hand side the buffet. So definitely the right place.
As soon as I(laowai) came in the girl behind the desk called an English speaking guy to help me. This was very promising. After the strip the shower, no discussion on the PJ, immediately got the free ones. This was about the only thing that did go well. It started with the discussion on the service. I asked the 800 RMB 80 minutes FS. Not available. For 800 I could get 60 minutes. 80 minutes would be 1200. So far so good, no prob with that I thought. Let’s go for the 60 minutes.
During the shower my English speaking guide left. When I was finished showering he came back and wanted me to pay first. From this moment on I got alarmed. Didn’t learn a lot, but in my whole career of mongering I never paid a cent before the service. Never. So I explained my friend that it was a NO GO. After a short call to his boss he guided me to the rooms. After entered he left to get a girl. On the side desk next to the bed were 2 cockroaches playing a game. Waw. He came back with the girl (the only available due the early hour) but the looks were acceptable. So I asked for another room and confirmed the 800 RMB service with that girl. Then he started again that he first needed the money. End of discussion, this and the cockroaches made me decide to leave. I asked how much he wanted to charge me for the shower but it was free of charge. The guy really was very sorry, but he got orders from his boss. When dressed I asked him if it was because I’m laowai, which he confirmed. End of tour in that sauna. Next report will be on the time I spend in the neighbourhood.

After the disappointing passage in the sauna Wonker described, I felt like I should check this neighbourhood.
Following Wonkers directions I’ve noticed the sauna sign on the other side of the road. Almost opposite the other sauna. But first I walked the complete block. There are a couple more massage parlors and even a BBS. But it was the sauna which got my attention.
So opposite the other sauna, with a sauna sign above the door. Entered, take off shoes, asked the menu. All in Chinese, asked the guy the differences, he gave me the hand sign for HJ on the 198 massage. OK lets go.

4th floor massage room. Very clean room! Nice flat screen against the wall. Clean bed. On the menu here in this room was one more massage. 398 RMB. Didn’t understood what it was for, and the girl I got was not going to do this kind of massage. So should be more than the HJ I got.
The girl did a good job. Good techniques. Long play. Enjoyed it very much. Total damage 223 RMB for the sauna and the massage with happy ending.

Somewhere high up on the hotel's huge neon sign you can read 'Shun Fung Hotel'. The entry hall is decorated with large Christian-style iconic pictures, complete with halos around person's heads. On the left of the doors, inside the glass wall, there was a price list. In Chinese, but with some 'V. I. P. <character ' prices at the bottom. That convinced me I was at the right spot.
Inside, they quickly found me a boy who spoke elementary English and who guided me through the steps described by Wonker. Showers were busy with Chinese men (around 18:00), there is a small pool with seemingly not too clean water, and I think I saw a small sauna.
I had decided not to ask for #56 but just to see how things would develop. I was also told that the rates were 800 RMB for full service for one hour, or 1200 RMB for more. I took 800. Are they increasing the rates for foreigners? I paid the 800 in advance.
Once in the VIP room (seemed clean. No cockroaches! ) he showed me a beautiful girl called Sasa (I never saw or heard any numbers) and asked if I liked her. I agreed immediately. Very cute, petite, tight body, smallest ass I’ve ever seen, very small tits. The forum professes to “facilitate the exchange of information between men who are looking for sex with women.” To this end, the site offers general information about where members can get the best bang for their buck. This includes information ranging from the price for various services, the specialties of individual prostitutes, and even accounts of negative experiences like that which one poster encountered with a working girl named Hebe. “Her English was good, but her choice of turn-on talk was a little creepy! Example, ‘You are a grandfather! You can be my grandfather and I am your little girl! I am very sympathetic to needs of grandfather!’ Ick!”
Beyond the righteous pursuit of helping sex tourists avoid creepy situations, the International Sex Guide offers assistance to those visitors to China whose language limitations might otherwise impede their ability to get the best possible service. Like anything taboo that has been excused within one’s circle, visiting prostitutes can become a sort of bond.”
Whether or not this is true of the expat male population as a whole, the ISG forums certainly offer curious mongers-to-be a readymade social circle that celebrates and facilitates sex tourism. However, don’t think the ISG forums are without policies on morality. Although posting sexual descriptions, explicit pictures and contact information for working girls is encouraged, rules have been put in place banning words like “*****” and “****” that are considered demeaning to women. Members also abide by a strict code. When one poster named Tuscan Man talked about his habit of spending 56,000 RMB a month on prostitutes, others were appalled. One poster called Phill980 went so far as to rebuke Tuscan Man harshly for talking about paying such an obscene amount of money… on The Cheap Sex Thread. “Anybody who is willing to spend more than 300 RMB on a girl a night, should please shut the f*ck up in this section.”

This is fantastic! It's interesting that all of the women referred to in the article, with only one slight exception, are referred to as "prostitutes." It would have been more accurate to emphasize the considerable attention to freebies here, as well as others such as MP workers who, on a whim, occasionally accept a big tip for something extra.

along datun north rd basically from the intersection wonker mentions turn left from anli rd, away from the marco polo hotel, towards the olympic area. the block has a tall sign at either end, saying "a-class catering street" or something like that. heaps of restaurants along the western end of it anyway. near the other end of this block are two massage places. i decided to try the one on the left called "healthcare massage" in orange neon.
as i approached the door the girls sitting around rep001tered. i entered and saw a few young attractive ladies, in tight shorts and tops, they quickly disappeared. one remainded and she spoke a little english. she asked what sort of massage i wanted and pulled out the menu. it was also in english, but still didn't mean much to me. i chose the most expensive option, 45 mins of "illusion" massage for y168.

a few words of personal wisdom that i have gained, which i hope can be generalized into advice that others will find useful:
1. the gaudier and flashier the outside of the sauna, the likelier it is that they will offer more than hj. this means: large signs, neon, and lots of [newer and nicer] cars parked out front. usually, these places will also have parking attendants and/or security working for them. these are signs that can all be observed from a cab, so next time you're going from a to b, keep your eyes peeled, as you'll never know what you'll spot!
2. a key phrase to keep an eye out for on the sauna's signage is 会所, hui4suo3, which means "club". this aligns with the previous point about fs saunas trying to market themselves as upscale.
so to answer your question, if you see "spa", then you need to also ask yourself: is this the kind of place where a chinese businessman would want to take his clients / associates out for a good time after work, or is this the kind of place where housewives go during the day to get facials and manicures? an affirmative to the former means a good time is in store, an affirmative to the latter means you're in for a costly and potentially embarrassing mistake.
also: local chinese, when they want to get their rocks off, will 95% of the time just go to the neighborhood bbs for a tug. therefore, the clientele at fs saunas will invariably be more upscale, and very likely to be there on business or on their company's dime. so, be conscious of the kind of crowd there.
for more definite confirmation, you will need to actually walk into the sauna and poke your head around! a lot of newcomers to china have trouble with this, but muster up some fucking balls and walk in like you own the place. remember: you're all foreigners, not some peasant trash from the hinterland. you're "allowed" to ask the certain kinds of questions that "trashier" people would be looked down upon for asking. so:
3. ask to see the service list. the larger the numbers, the likelier it is that fs is available. fs is usually priced around 600 - 1000y, and it is always a part of larger, 60-90 minute package. however, not all places will display their fs service on their menu so....
4. ask the attendant if they have "complete service": quan2tao4, 全套. this (obviously) is the only surefire way to confirm if fs is available. the words that you do not want to hear are 正规, zheng4gui1, which means "standard service". you will get, at most, a hj at zheng4gui1 places.

hope the above is helpful for new guys to find useful, not just for the anli road sauna i've reported on, but also for other saunas they run across in this fair city. so, log lots of taxi time to scope out the city, snoop in and ask around, and bring enough cash (1000y is safe). or, if you want to take the easy way out like i did, just ask your locally-based coworkers. if they're chinese, well-off, and still have functioning penises, then they will be able to direct you to a quality sauna.
i realized my half-dozen or so sauna experience are pretty focused on the higher-caliber places, so i do not claim absolute authority on the sauna p4p scene. however, the above was a generalized summary of my experiences and mine alone. everybody will have different preferences / experiences / budgets, so before anybody takes issue with my report, re-read it with a large grain of salt.

After following this forum for the last few weeks, I'm lead to believe that CNY is not a great time to be visiting Beijing. I'm desperate to get my hands (and a few other body parts) on one (or more) of our Sisters from the North (i think that is the correct phrase). Am I totally out of luck at the moment? There is another Russian night club which opened in December - took me a while to actually drop by the check it out - and it took me a while to get past the great firewall of china.
Chocolate can be found diagonally across from Hollywood and like absentia is underground. The entrance is in the glass building - on the side away from Hollywood. There are escalators which take you down. Once inside you may be greeted by a Russian speaking hostess who will seat you. Big club, good band was playing when I drop by. Two gorgeous Russian dancers doing a dance show next to the band. Food was reasonably priced as were drinks. When i dropped y it was pretty empty, but during Russian new year (10 days before Chinese new year and 10 days after western new year) it was packed. Clients were almost all Russian, with an odd assortment of other ethnic groups without their own hang out, such as folks from the middle east. I think its worth while to drop by.

While they all unanimously agreed that the average age to lose one's virginity in their country was about 23 years, it's important to realize that
(a) this is true much more so in eastern China (the better-developed side) than in Western China, and
(b) this is a relatively recent development, so if you include the entire population, not just the lower age groups, the average age will be lower.
I must point out that while I am English I have no idea what age kids are losing their virginity in my country these days. In my day I have a rought idea. When I checked up the figures I was shocked to discover how low it was, England also has the highest rate of teen pregnancies in Europe - which is not a proud achievement. Often the biggest gap is not racial or cultural, its generational.
I am now going to check up on my daughter.

I promised to end this discussion.I have not ran into good information about the age of losing virginity in China, but I have been told by several women in China, if you are not married by the age of 32, then Chinese men believe it is over for the woman as far as getting married. Men tend to over look women past this age. OK for me. I got some real stunners from 28 and older. Far better than the 18-20 in the Philippines, Thailand as far as GFE, and quality of sex. I have found it is much harder to find the younger types, but women past 28 can be putty in your hands. Most of the society is going through more freedom. The situation in late december and january was not very good. It has improved, but still a long way from the old days. All the normal hang-outs are still valid, but the choice is greatly reduced. I would add the Den to your list as well.
Can I suggest you may need to collect a few phone numbers and establish a bevy of regulars as a backup. You will find the girls actually like this and will give you a more GF experience. Especially since it seems you like mongolians and russians.

My own update on the Beijing Sunshine Club. Seems this club hasn't been mentioned here for years, so to my surprise it's still alive and well.
The club is located at the Wangfujing Grand Hotel, 3rd floor (57 Wangfujing Da Jie, across the street from Crowne Plaza). They are open nightly from 10pm until around 2pm. There are separate elevators (from the entrance, go to the right of the lobby) which takes you to the club, vs. Those which take you to the rooms.
The club has a nightly "fashion show" at around 11pm where the girls (wearing number tags) get up on stage and strut around. They have other entertainment like singers, dancers, etc. , some of which are quite fun & enjoyable (especially if you speak Chinese).
Of course, given a certain amount of money you can take home the girls. You can ask your hostess to recommend a few girls (not necessarily the ones from "the show") and pick the best one to be with you. The "non show" girls are as hot as the show girls.
Cons about the club: price. The club is setup like a KTV. Most sections of the club has a 400 RMB minimum drinks/food order charge (or maybe it's 300 RMB plus 100 RMB "service fee"). If you want to select a girl to sit down and drink with you, it's another 400 or 500 RMB depending on the girl. Or if you want to "barfine" the girl, the negotiation price starts at 2000 RMB (! ) _plus_ another 400 for the mamasan, and the girl isn't likely to stay overnight even at that price.
How successful you can negotiate down from 2000, and/or ask the girl to stay LT, is up to you. So let's say you're paying 1500-2000 for the girl, another 400 for the mamasan, and another 400 for drinks/food at the club. Expensive night.
If you decide to take out the girl, she will leave for a bit to change into civilian clothes, then you can decide when to leave afterwards.
Pros about the club. Well the night I was there, there were some absolute stunners, hot Chinese model-types easily rating in the 9s, numerous 8s. I was thinking "with my other head" and end up leaving with a gorgeous 5'9" leggy Chinese model. She was easily one of the hottest girls I've ever been with (and I've been with a few). A bit shy at first but warmed up to a GFE. Minimal English but I wasn't there for deep conversation.

While I have never been to the Sunshine Club, as I recall it is a sister club to "Passions" located in the Great Wall Sheraton. The description by Mike sounds like the operations are quite similar to each other. If you are the type that wants to go with an absolute stunner, and do not mind paying a premium price, than Sunshine Club is a good choice. My only warning would be that past posters have reported that while beautiful, many of the girls from Passions were very cold / non-GEF, once you got them home. This is a common problem with very beautiful girls - they feel that due to their looks they do not have to work as hard. To avoid such a situation I recommend spending as much time as possible in the club getting to know the girl first, rather than simply picking the most beautiful one and walking out the door. Of course, this will increase your costs as Sunshine/Passions are not cheap venues, but if you are choosing to be with one of these girls anyway you should not be "nickel and diming" the experience. It's generally all HJ, and I've never had FS from there, though I have received BJ from #12. If you walk east from HePingLi Bei Jie station you will also find BBS on the main road and down side alleys. The ones on the main road quote RMB200 for HJ, but this is the rip off price. RMB100 is usually sufficient. If on a side alley they will likely also offer FS, but I have not tried so not sure of the price. Sounds like you got a pretty quality HJ in a place that was pretty clean. 100Y is usually the price for an HJ at a street-side massage parlor / barbershop, but those places are usually dirty with a very mechanical, no-frills experience. I come from a very small town in Inner Mongolia, called Ereenhot (or else spelled as Er Lian Hao Te in chinese pinyin), along the MONGOLIA-CHINA border. Though this small town attracts many Outer Mongolian prostitutes to come here and establish their business, given its strategic location and closer proximity, and yes its almost tenfold cheaper compared to Beijing. However, visiting brothels in a tiny small town can be a pain in the ass, because the possibility of me running into someone I know or familiar with is very high, and that would be very embarrassing.

You are mistaken. I can assure that I am Pathfinder 06 and have no idea who the other guy you're referring to is. I'm a new member to the forum, having been on here a couple of months at best. To be sure, I'm still trying to find my way around. In total, I've made probably 2 or 3 posts. The last one, which happended to be in the photo section, was in reference to the Merrylin Hotel where I posted about #77 (Chi CHi). Again, I'm not sure why you think I'm the same individual as 'Step Warrior, but I assure you, I am not. Given the difficulty that I had joining the site because of having to use a proxy server and send special e-mails to Jackson for access, I'm sure he could verify what I stated above. Spoke to the manager of Maggie's tonight and was told that all girls that enter must be with a male escort, and they also must all have passports (men do not need passports). It is depressing going to Beijing and seeing the Pig and Maggies at their worst but there is hope. Sammy had a little get together at a pub not to be named and proved their are still plenty of Mongolian sisters to go around to the faithful followers. After all this time, I actually met the Fox last night, at an undisclosed location somewhere in the Sanlitun bar scene. Dick Cheney was there too, oddly enough. He was mumbling to himself about the fuckin WMD's and drinking straight from a bottle of Wild Turkey. Hah!

Well, I owe it to my coach and the training regimen I've established in poking women from around the world as often as possible. on a bright november afternoon, golden bridge street is showing signs of life. in glass-fronted rooms, young women in pyjamas curl up on couches, yawning and watching television. some sweep the floor and clean windows lined with dolls and stuffed animals; others nip outside to a grocery store to buy cigarettes and bottles of green tea.
on the street, groups of men in leather jackets smoke and chat. periodically, a taxi pulls through a tall archway next door to the police station, dropping off a girl who has worked through the night. this is erlian, a gobi desert boomtown on the chinese side of the mongolian border.
in a room littered with ash and cigarette butts, alimaa (not her real name), 23, rests before another long shift. she wears heavy makeup and green nail polish and has dyed auburn hair. a puppy plays with a chunk of chipped drywall beside her and drinks from a bowl of curdled milk. sitting on a couch under a poster of a half-naked woman, alimaa chain smokes esse lights and chats with two colleagues who, like her, are mongolian prostitutes.
with remarkable calm, alimaa explains how she came to be here. two years ago, when she was living in ulan bator, mongolia's capital, she and a friend were recruited by two men to work in a karaoke bar in beijing. when she arrived in the chinese capital, the recruiters told her she would have to work as a prostitute.
"they took us to different rooms in a hotel and showed us chinese girls who had been raped," alimaa says. "they said, `take a look, this is what will happen if you don't do this.'"
alimaa hid her passport in her boots and, later that night, escaped. for two days and nights she hid on a construction site before a mongolian contact in beijing brought her to erlian. broke and with no place to go, alimaa resigned herself to her fate and started working in a brothel.
alimaa's is a story familiar to thousands of mongolian women, from the brothels of erlian to the bars of beijing and the casinos of macau. between 3,000 and 5,000 mongolians are trafficked every year, the majority of whom are women and children recruited by deceit into the sex industry.
according to chimgee ulzii, of the mongolia gender equality centre (gec) in ulan bator, recruiters usually have contacts in the destination cities and are often women who have themselves been trafficked. victims are generally uneducated and desperate for a way out of poverty. some are already prostitutes but have been misled about pay and working conditions; others are recruited by advertisements in newspapers promising overseas scholarships or containing vague offers of employment.
once they have reached their destination, the women are routinely abused both physically and mentally. many are beaten, forced to take drugs, raped and repeatedly sold. trafficked women often find themselves trapped in a system of "debt-bondage", in which their employer demands "repayment" for travel and other costs, which can be astronomical. some girls run away but most, lacking money, travel documents and help of any kind, are forced to stay for several years.
repatriated women suffer physically and emotionally; many are forced to seek medical treatment for sexually transmitted diseases and depression. with no work experience and few options, many return to what they know; prostitution or becoming a trafficker themselves.
"trafficking is growing very fast," says amgalan erdenechuluun, a project officer at the human security policy studies centre, an ngo in ulan bator working to combat the practice. the young women "want to believe that there's something better out there. but when they reach the destination country they find themselves trapped in a nightmare. they're just slaves".
in 1990, the collapse of communism in mongolia ushered in a multiparty political system and the start of a shaky transition to a market economy. while democracy provided mongolians with new-found freedom, it also helped foster the conditions in which [CodeWord908] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord908) thrives. in 1992, a new constitution introduced the right to travel abroad, which, combined with urban migration, poverty, unemployment and age and gender discrimination in the workforce, ensured a steady stream of vulnerable targets for traffickers.
in the centre of erlian there is a square in which stands a statue of a naked woman, its paint chipped and yellowing, holding a small globe in an extended hand. locals say the statue represents the beauty of mongolian womanhood, although no one seems sure how it got there.
around the corner is the town's market, where dozens of jeeps are parked, loaded with goods, their drivers waiting to make one of many daily trips across the border. when they return, some of the jeeps will bring trafficked women into the inner mongolia autonomous region, erlian being the gateway to china for many of them. most will be ferried onwards to other chinese cities, hong kong and macau included, while some end up staying and working here. about 300 mongolian women work as prostitutes in erlian, according to ngos.
signs of the sex trade are everywhere.
one morning, a woman with a cigarette hanging from her lips approaches, holding a bundle of yuan. when her foreign exchange services are rebuffed she asks if we want girls and gives us a phone number to call if we're interested.
later, havar, a 33-year-old inner mongolian wearing a black leather jacket and driving a hatchback, takes us to golden bridge street, erlian's best-known red-light district. he says the youngest women charge 300 yuan (hk$340) for the night or 200 yuan for an hour. older women earn as little as 20 yuan per session.
a colleague of alimaa, gerlee (also not her real name), a 22-year-old with a round face, rosy cheeks and a faded tattoo of a heart on her shoulder, says she gives 30 per cent of what she makes to her boss, a pint-size chinese man who runs in and out of the brothel during our interview. he pays the rent and the girls live in the back room. when asked if she feels trapped, gerlee, who came to erlian after falling out with her inner mongolian boyfriend, says, "i'm just looking for money. it doesn't make it good or bad."
bolormaa owns a brothel on golden bridge street. two years ago, the attractive 27-year-old met a woman in ulan bator who told her she could make good money in erlian working as a waitress. the woman brought her to a hotel in erlian and then told bolormaa she was expected to work as a prostitute.
"i was shocked - i really didn't want to do it," says bolormaa, as she dabs thick orange foundation on her cheeks. "i tried to get help. but everyone else i met just tried to sell me on. i didn't have any money so i finally agreed to sleep with one of the men. i remember my first client very well. it was horrible."
now bolormaa introduces other girls to their first punter and lives in a small room with no windows behind the brothel she bought with her earnings. on her bed are stuffed animals and a hello kitty pillow. she employs four girls, including a 17-year-old.
"i make sure that my girls always use condoms. i take good care of them," she says. "i just want to make enough money to have a good life. who knows what will happen in the future."
in the marketplace, two middle-aged women with weathered faces and blackened teeth are sucking on sugar cubes. after offering us girls, they ask our translator, a mongolian journalist, to go to mongolia on a recruitment run.
"can you find us girls?" one asks. "it's good business. if you can find five girls, the [brothel] owners will pay you 2,000 yuan for each."
the women say trafficking is getting more difficult as officials are cracking down. last year, they say, border guards stopped traffickers from bringing 24 girls into china. still, the trade is thriving. "many, many girls work here. some girls know they will be working as prostitutes [when they arrive]," one woman says. "some don't."
on a tuesday night in the dimly lit eighteen sauna in macau's golden dragon hotel, a few dozen men - most are chinese, with some foreigners - wrapped in red towels wait with eager eyes. to electronic music, a line of about 70 women wearing lingerie is paraded in front of them, circling hot tubs in the centre. each has a number pinned to her bra. the men are quick to choose, walking down the line to stand opposite their preferred girl. they will be allowed to spend two hours with their choice, the price depending on nationality.
according to a laminated menu presented upon arrival, a "taiwan model massage" costs hk$1,914 and is the most expensive on the list. further down is a "mongolian massage", priced at hk$1,705.
"fifteen per cent government tax," the cashier says, tapping his thin index finger on the menu. "hand jobs are cheaper," he quips.
macau now rivals las vegas in gaming revenues but the mix that attracted the majority of visitors to the former portuguese colony before the 1999 handover - gambling and sex - remains the same. unlike in the mainland, prostitution is legal in macau. many of the smaller hotels and casinos have entire floors dedicated to "saunas" - a polite term for brothels. the young women who staff them come primarily from the mainland, taiwan, south korea and southeast asia.
increasingly, according to ngos, mongolian women are joining them. according to gec research, there are an estimated 500 mongolian sex workers in macau, the vast majority of whom are working under duress. sold to sauna owners, the girls' passports are confirep001ed and they are made to live in tiny dormitories inside the hotel or casino in which they work. if the women complain, they are threatened with violence or [CodeWord123] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord123). in 2007, a 15-year-old girl's tongue was cut out by her captors after she sent text messages pleading for help, according to gec caseworkers.
naran munkhbat is a gec outreach worker from ulan bator doing an internship - the first of its kind - with the international organisation for migration in hong kong. the 24-year-old has spent four months seeking out mongolian sex workers in macau and hong kong, attempting to learn their stories and, if possible, offer help. it's no easy task; fearing violent reprisal, most girls will not speak to munkhbat in her capacity as an ngo worker. she often has to pretend she's a prostitute on a visa run from hong kong and sprinkles into her conversation questions about the women's health and safety.
"traffickers control everything about the girls. they threaten to call their families and say they're working as a `****' in macau. the pimps treat the girls as money-making machines and they control them by any means to keep them in debt," she says. munkhbat is concerned about her safety when talking to the girls and about being mistaken for a prostitute at the border.
munkhbat, who is tall and slim, with long black hair and prominent cheek bones, points out the bars, clubs and saunas where mongolians work. outside the golden sauna, in the run-down rua cantao hotel, staff dressed in tracksuit bottoms and t-shirts hover, trying to attract customers.
inside, a thin man in a cheap black suit and white shirt shows us the menu. here, a one-hour "mongolian massage" costs hk$1,586. there are no customers. music blares, steam rises from a small hot tub in the centre and 20 girls are told to line up in a row. the girls bow when we enter. two vietnamese giggle but the rest look drained and withdrawn. in the corner, we spot one of golden sauna's mongolian workers. she is in her early 20s, taller than the rest, wearing a black bikini. her shoulders are slumped and she has heavy bags under her eyes. we walk out, telling the man in the suit we'll return.
outside and out of sight, munkhbat draws on a menthol cigarette, her eyes flitting over the street. "it's like this all over the city," she says. "we don't know exactly how many of these girls are here of their own choice but if there are any, they're in the minority."
to get the girls to have sex with as many clients as possible, the sauna owners do everything they can to keep them indebted, she says. they ban women from buying their own condoms; instead, owners sell them to the girls - at a mark up.
"if a man wants unsafe sex and the girl refuses, she will lose money and will have to work as a prostitute even longer," munkhbat says. "some owners sell drugs to the girls, get them addicted and then they have to pay their debts by having sex with more men. drug addiction keeps the owners in control."
the macanese government says it's clamping down on the trade in women across its borders. in june last year, it introduced a new [CodeWord908] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord908) law, which has given police more powers to arrest and prosecute those involved in the trade. a 24-hour hotline has been set up and seminars have been organised. but it's far from enough, munkhbat says. corruption in macau is rife, she says, and officials are easily bribed into turning a blind eye.
"if it really wanted to help, the government would co-ordinate with international ngos like ours," she says.
macau's police force complains that, despite the new legislation, officers still lack the proper legal tools to enforce the law.
in mongolia, the issue of trafficking was downplayed between the early 1990s and 2006, with only six cases going to court. it wasn't until 2007 that authorities started taking the issue seriously, working with ngos such as the gec to publicise trafficking, boosting the number of police investigations and pushing the attorney general to set up the office for the prosecution of trafficking and corruption. by april last year, the courts had convicted 17 perpetrators in 13 cases - nearly twice as many convictions as in the entire previous decade. last february, the mongolian parliament strengthened the country's trafficking laws, expanding their remit and adding stiffer penalties for traffickers. still, critics say these expanded laws do not go far enough. (both the mongolian embassy in beijing and the consulate in erlian declined to be interviewed for this article.)
with or without new laws and inter-governmental co-ordination, there is an underlying problem that all groups working to combat trafficking must contend with: fear - of reprisals, of further exile and isolation - that prevents the vast majority of trafficked women from coming forward, whether in erlian, beijing, macau or back in mongolia. legislation and outreach will be difficult without first-hand information and the co-operation of victims.
munkhbat wrestles with this dilemma. since she arrived in hong kong and began making bi-weekly visits to macau, she's met just a dozen or so mongolian sex workers and only one has admitted to being trafficked. most are suspicious of her and refuse to open up. over dinner at a portuguese restaurant near the lisboa hotel, munkhbat vents her frustration.
"it's difficult to be an outreach worker," she says. "i've met many girls in bars in hong kong, many friends. but [in macau] it's impossible, i can't force them to talk to me. the girls here might be fine to walk down the streets or go out but they're under such psychological pressure, they can't talk to anyone."
she pauses. "they live in this world where they have only themselves to trust. no one else."

Please note that two political planets are about to line up this month, and this may, at least in Beijing, affect the hobby.

Looking through the stories that are available, what's the single thread that pops up consistently for women who are trafficked? Someone else is holding their passports. Well, the Mongolian girls are all holding theirs. They can't even get into a Beijing club without that, for the most part. They go back to UB on their own, get visas renewed and return to BJ. Hardly a case of trafficking with them. I'm not saying they lead the lifestyle of Paris Hilton, but they are independent. Same with the ladies I've met in Singapore and KL. Let's try to hold down the Fox News reporting to areas where it applies. A WG is not always being trafficked.

Long time reader but first time posting. Have lived in Beijing on and off for the past two years so I do remember what Maggie's was like. Monday night we closed it down at 4 am and it was dead the entire time. Went back last night and it was a time warp. Actually some of my best mongering days decades ago, (early 1980's, when I was nearly a virgin mongerer,) happened on Mabini Street (sorry for spelling) when Marcos was still looting the country. Our hangouts were Firehouse and Bubbles and we used to stay at the Phil Plaza Hotel below the 4thd floor just in case some one fire bombed the joint. Is Mabini street still there? I have not visited, but read a post awhile back about a FS sauna behind your hotel. Walk past the Lufthansa shopping center toward the HRC, and just past the bridge turn down the side road. Walk all the way down until the road makes a sharp left turn and you will see a sauna. Again, I do not know the quality, etc, or how it works, but remember from the posting it was 1000 for full service.
Cheaper option, just pick up a girl walking in front of your hotel, or on the street near the HRC.
There are some new bars that opened up along Lucky Street, just across from Nashville. Right now they are pretty dead, but I suspect as the weather warms up, so will they.

Hey, I need to have clarified if you are talking specifically in regards to the Golden Herd, particularly the ones you are acquainted with in Beijing or in general?
We're on the same side in regards to mongering, being in China, and having people shut their mouthhole if girls willingly choose this road, especially if they're trying to pull themselves and their family out of poverty. My limited experience with the Mongols and Russkies in China seems to indicate they are independent and are indeed doing it on their own volition.

I travel regularly between Shanghai and Beijing. While I'm a sauna fan in Shanghai, I haven't found one sauna in Beijing that would come up to Shanghai standards. There are some, but I cannot really reccommend any of them. :-(

It's near the International Exhibition Center/Radisson Hotel area... SAUNA ADDRESS: Liu Fang bei li 12 hao. From Kempinski get on 3rd ring road going North... get off at the International Exhibition Center exit (about 10 minutes from Kempinski) and go LEFT under the 3rd ring road overpass; after a few hundred yards on RIGHT (just past Carrefour) there is the Radisson Hotel; after passing the hotel, take a LEFT at the first major traffic light. (You'll pass a McDonald's on the LEFT after 100 yds or so..) continue to next traffic light and the SAUNA is on the RIGHT side at corner (before light). It's somewhere between RMB700 or 800 for FS as I remember. They also have regular massage/HJ options too for RMB300/400 (?). They do have some massage rooms with showers in them, but most rooms don't have. Last time I went I did the normal room, so not sure if Shangahi style soapy activities are included on the menu, but certainly co-showering is. Need to ask for shower room when you are at the front desk. Overall, the sauna is quite upscale and girls are nice. No line up, unfortunately. Just send the girl back if you are not satisfied.

Some words on „trafficking. “ (Shouldn't there be an "u" somewhere?) Usually, these are stories made up by proxies of the anti-prostitution lobby. If these organizations will get their wish, the work will go away, the worker and his family will stay hungry. The girl in Mongolia will stay poor. Usually, these stories have a nasty subtext: The people who rally against “exploitation” of workers simply want the jobs to stay in their own countries. They don’t care whether the now liberated worker dies of hunger. The people who rally against “sex trafficking” in truth want to wipe prostitution off the earth.
Critics speak of a "rescue industry" which views all sex workers as ignorant, hapless victims of trafficking that need to be saved, with the effect of severely restricting international freedom of movement and meddling with the affairs of other countries. This rescue industry needs work to get funding. It has no interest in the people themselves. It ignores the wish of a woman for a better life. Just like the “aid industry” has emerged out of earlier missionary and colonial interventions in Africa, and has been unable to break with this paternalist, overbearing tradition. This aid industry is a trap that locks the 3rd world in the chains of dependency.

i really think that the majority of the girls are doing it for economic reason, dinero for short. i have only met a few that told me that they were pimped out by their boyfriends. a few mean less than five or six max by their boyfriends.
about two years ago, i was sitting at the jia yi ktv and i ask the girl why she is in the business. instead of the usual response that they needed to make some money so that they can send it back home for their brother to go to school, sick momma/poppa or just economics, she just told me that she was working in a retail store and one day while talking with her friends she found out that she can work at a ktv, drink, sing, eat (somewhat better food than she normally will have) and get paid for it. it was up to her if she wants to have fun with the guy afterward. i have seen ktv girls reject the guy afterward, it is their choice. she told me that she loves the job and the money. the next morning she told me that most of the men she meets on a one night stand were decent. as for sending money back home, she told me that she send very little and enjoy her earnings.

I have only come across two women who had been forced into the business, one in Thailand, who was sold into the business by her father. The arrangement was the middleman paid a sum of cash to the father in exchange for his daughter working to pay off the loan. She paid off the loan in about 2 years and – would you believe it, went back to live with her father. Anyway, as you can guess, after a while she decided to continue in the business and went down to Bangkok where she spent some time with my fellow English mate – which is how i found out the story.
The other was in Israel, a eastern European woman who went to Israel to become a provider (she knew what was going to happen), unfortunately when she arrived she was taken to a massage place, passport taken off her and was required to pay back the travel and accommodation, inflated by “interest”. As you can guess this forced her to work very hard for very little money. When she discovered she was never going to make a lot of money, she wanted out and discovered she was trapped. At any time she could of gone to the police, but was scared to do so. Perhaps I was a sucker, but I paid off her loan (only about $2K at that time, plus $1K for a ticket to get out), she got her passport back and as far as I was aware she left. She was not working in a very seedy place, so perhaps her experience was not typical.
My conclusion is the guys on this post, myself included, don't actually frequent the sort of places where you find women being trapped into the business. I think you will find the market segment where you will find severe issues is at the lower-end of the socio economic spectrum. All the bad places I was told about in Thailand and Israel were designed to cater for lower-income locals and were grotty to say the least (mind you I never went to any of these places and never witnessed it first hand, so this is only what I heard). As a result its very possible few of you guys have even met any women who was actually forced into working for reasons other than money.
Finally, most people trafficking is related to illegal immigration and highly illegal activity, such as child sex. In the UK a few years ago a number of illegal immigrants were found dead in a container while being smuggled into the country – that is what the NGO's need to focus on. I read about a guy who went to an island in the Caribbean and negotiated to buy a child which he could “adopt” and take back into the US. He claimed this was very common. Again, this is what the NGO's need to focus on. But “sex” is sexy, and you will titillate more readers about tales of women forced to engage in sexual acts for minimal benefits rather than a dozen Pakistani mean found dead in their own filth in a container, or even children forced into un-natural relationships with disturbed men. (Most people, thank Christ, do not get titillated by child sex, so while disturbing, its not titillating like young beautiful woman being forced to “take it for the team” against her will.)

And since I guess I must take the blame for originally intoroducing this subject by re-printing that Shrill SCMP post a couple or so weeks ago, I guess I ought to also put in my 2 cents worth on "unfortunate circumstances"
I do think that the more tragic thing for a lot of these gals is that once they get into this business (no matter what the original reason for getting into it was) they find it so hard to get out of.
- They get too used to the easy (??) money for little effort, the nice lifestye such affords, that it's inconceivable for them to want to go back to their old lives..... and only go back to such when they're too old for anything else, or worse, when they get sick etc.
- Once a gal gets into the game, the various blood suckers around her have their "fortunes" tied onto her and will do anything and everything to make her stay productive for them. The Pimps, the suppossed boyfriend, the mommas, the maffos, the premises (KTV, Sauna, BBS etc) owners.
- The gambling, drugs, alcohol - even the very lifestyle they now lead - being pushed onto them - just to make them all junkies to earning more money to support their "habit."
- The various fees, fines, kickbacks they need to pay to their handlers - under threat of physical and psychological retirbutions, backed up by real muscle. Forcing her to be continually in debt and thus sort of enslaved/having to continue hooking.
- The customers ourselves - and lets face it - for every 10 good johns, there must at least be one or two who are really wankers; the freeby vs promises, the bare-backers, the violent, the real sickos. These guys get the gals pregnant, V.D. sick as well as really sick requiring expensive medical treatments - and another vicious cycle.
- Her family "back home" also continually sucking them dry. To me its amazing what some of these gals - especially chinese gals - puts up with as far as their "family' is concerned. Truly amazing.

I can assure you there are girls in Tianjin for your carnal pleasure. I have not personally had the pleasure, but I know a Beijing real estate agent who told me that he sometimes goes to to Tianjin for the girls. They are way cheaper than in Beijing. Over the years, I've been able to maintain "long term" relationship for some three to four years with several girls. Several of them had been able to get out of it and went on to other normal jobs. One of them even became an office lady. Another is now running her own shop selling handbags (fake LV, Gucci etc) in the Women's Street in Beijing. In fact I just saw her last week at her shop (and in my hotel room). Both of them I had reviewed in this forum long time ago.
After they told me they had left this business, I did have the impression that they were no longer doing it, at least not on a full time basis. I had always treated them well, with full respect (likely opening doors and pulling chairs for them), and they were (one still is) willing to continue the relationship with me. After a certain period of time, one of them refused to take any money from me, and didn't even ask me for an gifts.
My feeling is that a lot of girls find it perfectly acceptable to sell their body for money to sort out their short term financial problems. After they've got "enough" money, they stop. Of course you have to be very strong willed to be able to do this. Otherwise, you get used to the "easy" money or you succumb to the pressure/temptations, as Joe says, and you can't get out. I can say that these "successful" girls that I know are some tough cookies.
I have been amazed at the "successful" transformation of these girls and am really interested to find out how they really feel about it. But I'm afraid to ask.
Of course I know that for one girl who can return to what we consider a normal life, there are countless others who will just sink to the bottom. So, as Joe says, treat them well. Hainan is full of Dongbei and other northern province girls who 'winter' in Sanya or Haikou for several years during their late teens and very early twenties. They put their younger brothers through college, or buy their parents a two-story house in the village, and save some money for their future marriage.
They weren't bright enough to get into college. Their family had little money. They had few hometown job prospects other than waitressing. But they had their beauty and their youth.
They chose to invest these valuable short-term assets in a job that they at worst hated, at best tolerated.
I truly admire many of them and feel fortunate to spend 'quality' time with them.

I have been working hard the last few weeks and avoided going out when the politburo met, so this info is a couple of weeks old.
- Maggies is open, but minimal if any action.
- HRC was similar last time I dropped over.
- Lido is highly variable - sometimes full, sometimes empty. Go as early as possible.
- Hollywood is open, but very quiet. Some Ruskies around, but they drop over for 30min, leave and then come back every now and then.
- The Den late at night has been ok, there is a team of Ruskies which drop by after midnight led by a model like alpha female.
But its highly variable based on the activity of the authorities. I would consider trying out a KTV as a backup option. If that fails the old faithful BBS is an option.

I am going to Beijing in a few days for the first time. I will be there for three nights, staying at The Peninsula. I have read a bunch of reports, but it would be great if someone could give a quick summary of what to expect.

Called few numbers from Beijing's CL, some of them seems fake number or what, it didn't ring nor had a busy ringtone but something else was said by the operator. And those whom I was able to make conversation, as Zhuren mentioned some were impossible and some had the rate of 1500-2000. I personally think it is expensive when they have mentioned 2-300/hr service in Beijing. Anyway it's friday today, so planning to hit the club tonight, let's see what I can get.

My last visit to Beijing was Nov 2007 and Kerry Center Hotel is my home base. On the way back from the shopping arcade/mall, just before opening the doors to hotel, young pimpette approached me re female company.

I asked about bringing it down to 800 RMB, and was told that there was 850 RMB service, but it didn't sound like the full service I was looking for. I ended up passing.
For those who don't know, Regency Massage has typically offered a very good service: Real massage with a pretty girl followed by full service. It's always been higher in cost, but in mind, worth it. There hasn't been much on the board about it lately, so I was afraid that it was closed. I'm glad to report that it is very much in business. Just be prepared to pay higher fees, just like before.
