Made a quick tour of the usual haunts last night. Started at The Pig in the Lido around 7. Same Chinese girls that have been "working" there for years, with just a few fresh faces. They are a friendly bunch, but nothing to write home about. On the plus side, if you are ever looking for a tour guide they would be happy to show you the sites during the day, and give you a nice "pop" that night. Not a bad alternative to just sitting in your hotel room watching TV on your day off.

Next stopped by the Den, but it was early and empty of working girls. Around 10 pm decided to check out Hollywood. Same dark, dungeon like atmosphere, but several girls. I counted at least 20 blond Russian types along with a few Asian girls.

After chatting up a few I decided to take a look at Maggie's. Maybe 40 guys, and 10 - 15 girls. Again, a few worth taking, but certainly not like the "good ol' days".

Prior go going out I sent out some text messages to a few girls I know, and it seems all of the Mongolian girls are starting to trickle back into Beijing after spending the summer at home. Not sure how long this will last - if they have no place to go, and cannot find business, they won't stick around long.

I have never been a bit fan of the Chinese talent at The Pig. IMHO, they are mostly "over-the-hill" girls from better times. And, frankly, I've seen even better in those alleys!

Got back from a month long trip in China. Beijing was one of the cities I stayed at. It was a good trip spent getting updated on China life. Yet, there is still lots more to do next time I go back in a few months.

A few topics about Beijing:

1. I have heard tons of things about Tian Shang Ren Jian (Passions in the Great Wall Sheraton) and Sunshine Club (Club in the Wang Fu Jing Jiu Dian, not to be confused with the Peninsula. Wang Fu Jing Da Jiu Dian), but I have not tried either yet. I have heard a lot of rumors about both and need to know for sure from someone who have visited either of these places or similar places multiple times for personal or business. Passions is famous nationwide. They tend to get the best and most wealthy customers coming through so its not surprising that they ask for estimated 2000-5000 rmb total. Can someone break out how this accumulates. I've heard better girls ask for more, which is to be expected, but how much better and are you sure they are not just scamming you because you are a foreigner. At the general top level, I have heard 1000 rmb is the going rate for 1 time and 2000 rmb for all night at most high end places, but these two are higher. I assume Sunshine is a little less than Passion. I have read on here Sunshine has a show where the girls with numbers go on stage. Does Passions have this or are they just paraded into your KTV room? I personally don't like the lineups since you only see 10-15 of them at a time that way when they actually have 100+ each night. I still remember the time when I went with only one other friend and they sent 50+ into a room but that was another place and time. I know the KTV rooms is just a sink hole for money, but I figured like most places, you have to develop guanxi/rapport at these places first before you can just go in and the mami will recognize you and give you the best selection without any bs.

2. What I did spend my time doing was going to pretty much every new, worthy local club in Beijing and Shanghai. For Beijing, I did all the Gong Ti clubs, Babyface, Angel, Cargo, etc, along with Lan and Bling. These were places where freebies went, but it took me a long time to realize that guys bring girls to the club and these girls generally stay with them. This is only for the best looking ones. I have a high standard and generally there may be only 10 girls in a club at most that would be good looking in my opinion. The ones dancing and shaking their heads looking for any foreign guy to cling on is not my cup of tea. Generally, I find the bartenders and dancers to be better. Too bad I don't have my car in China (a place all about the superficial things) would be a walk in the park. I had more success with foreign girls studying abroad, working, etc. Any feedback on the night club scene would be good. Just to make sure, I am not interested in the other type of clubs such as HRC, Maggies, Hollywood, etc.

3. Generally I found the best way to meet girls naturally in a relatively faster way other than going through friends of friends of friends was just going to the mall where they shopped and chatting them up about anything, even sometimes off the street. Have any locals/long term expats found this to be the same? Models in KTVs are great and all, but nothing beats a normal girl (actually from Beijing) that is not all about the cash, or at least not directly.

Gents, may I humbly suggest you giuys broaden your horizons from the sam old Lido, Maggies and Den routine. After a month here now these places seem to me like the worst of the worst and so massively overpriced...i cannot for the life of me understand why you would be tolerating or even promoting these types of places....all the people I know now wouldnt go near those places and they have been here a fair while now (2 to 3 years plus).

We were in Houhai on Friday at a bar called (I think) Paradise. It was great...pay the girls 100 RMB to sit with you and chat and play games and all that and then take them out and back to hotel....500RMB for short time although I think they would have stayed all night for that. Some beautiful girls in there...i went with guys that knew the score in there which made life easier admittedly.

Zhuren if you go to Thailand please dont destroy the market by overpaying as has happened in Maggies and other places...completely out of control....in my opinion 500RMB is the right price and plenty of great options for getting beautiful girls at that price...may not GFE but personally I am absolutely NOT looking for GFE anyway...if I wanted that I would get a girlfriend.

No disrespect intended but this forum is like ground hog day with the girls getting worse and prices going up...totally insane, Maggies in my opinion is an absolute joke.

She told me that the place did not get the WGs in until 10:30 P.M. or 11:00 P.M. I left about 10:00 P.M. since I wanted to check another place out but did not return to Maggies. Nice looking club with pretty bar girls with good English speaking skills.

I returned about three weeks later about midnight on a Thursday night. Wanted to see about doing a Mongolian girl. There were several. First spoke with a Chinese girl but she wanted 2500 RMB for the night. I was quite surprised at the amount. I would only pay 600 or 700 for the night. She actually took it as an insult. I found it amusing. Speaking with one Mongolian girl did not fare better results. The girls are on an 8 out of 10 scale in my book. All of them spoke very good English. Yet I do believe that the girls are getting used to being paid a large amount for their services. I did my homework on Maggies before I left the USA. I may be mistaken but I thought the going rate was about 600 RMB. Was I wrong?

Anyways, Maggies is an nice joint and the service from the bartenders and bar girls is very good. Beers are about 35 RMB and a rum and coke at 50 RMB. I was happy since I spent the time smoking my cigar at a bar without anyone asking me to put it out.

as we approach the big six oh for the next world power, my humble observation is that the beijing laowai p4p market is a ghetto, the ritan p4p ghetto. in all 2nd tier cities in china, as well as the other 1st tier cities, shanghai, guangzhou, hongkong,, shenzhen, tianjin... the westerner has access to many of the same ktv, sauna facilities accessible to chinese nationals. not all, but many.
in beijing,, for political reasons, those venues are not open to lao wai.
we may get to peek - in the company of 6 locals earlier this year, one a national police captain, i got inside a top-end ktv 'club' in beijing,, unfortunately with my wife, and my god - the talent was stunning - but a group of westerners would be unable to get a 'reservation' or a 'membership'. i asked my hosts why. i was told that western businessmen often fell in love with the ktv girls, many got divorced from their wives, and it was a huge problem. they were serious.
longtime readers of the beijing forum will note the paucity of venues, and the eventual closing of the rare facility that dares to promote service to westerners.
so yes, the desperate lonely western businessman who pays 1500 or 2000 for a 35 year old high-mileage beat-up jiangxi sedan in the lido doesn't help the situation.
but you shouldn't blame the customers for the cost of bruised tomatoes in harlem.

The last night I was in Beijing which was July 19 I think - Njtraveller and I went to Lido just to sus it out and have a drink.

I grabbed a 5ft 8in 22yo Mongolian student who spoke perfect english - whose father was a doctor in UB - who had been in BJ for for 12 months - cracking hard body - RMB1,000 all night.

You quoted above the w.h.o.r.e.s at Houhai charged RMB100 to sit with you and RMB500 ST - so that would be RMB600 ST total.

IMHO - and it is my opinion - yours may well differ - but the Mongolian for RMB1,0000 all night multiple pops + the enjoyment / entertainment is better value.

But as I said at the top - we all have differening views and we should all pursue and enjoy the w.h.o.r.e.s as we see fit.

Just because someone does something different to you or I or has a different view on any matter makes them neither wrong or right.

Many before you have also complained that the Beijing thread is dominated by Maggies 'talk'. That is not the fault of the contributors who have posted the info - it is a reflection of what is available to mongers in and around Beijing.

You may well be doing some trailblazing that will change the landscape here - please continue to post with details of bars name, location and pricing - that way everyone benefits.

And if the Mongolians were averaging 8/10 the night you were there, then I've really missing something (at least in recent days). I am no expert on M for sure but when I went I could not get near that price. The feeling I had there was that it was geared to regulars and newbies were out of place. Maybe this is the price you can get at 2am. However I don't shop for p**** at that time. A good all-nighter should start much earlier to be worthwhile. Maybe I am on a different time zone. I've seen some banter about those disillusioned with the WGs and prfer the "freebie" market. I think we all agree variety is the spice of life, that's likely what has drawn us to this hobby. So taking a break from WGs for some "freebies" is just part of the mix. We likely all also recognize that nothing is free. As has been pointed out, the time and effort spent on a "freebie" often exceeds a pretty good WG. But, as the old saying goes "the chase is oft better than the catch". The WG are usually a sure bet but the adventure of a chase and conquest of the "date" is something to be savored on occasion.

I like to enjoy a mix of both. The internet is great, both to get the scoop on WGs, bars, hotels, etc. And to hook up with gals just looking for the "special" guy. To keep the mix, I've always found it prudent when visiting a city to move around regularly. If you just want to pop the "date" and not see her again, it's best not to stay in the same hotel more than a day or two. I usually stay no more than 2 days. That way, when you're on to another "date" or pick up a WG, you don't have to worry about the amateur gal that you screwed the night before and that has fallen madly in love with (already imagined marriage and having your kids) embarrassing you and creating a scene at the hotel.

This board is great for suggestions of all kinds. I appreciate the mix of reports and opinions and hope to have some specifics to contribute when I return from my jaunt to the fair city of Beijing. Looking forward to Maggies!

If you are living in Beijing or travel here extensively then I suggest you add me to your “ignore” list, because you most likely know everything I will ever post. I will continue to post this information as pay-back to all of those who went before me and blazed the trail. My target audience is the solo traveler who happens to be in Beijing on business, but is looking for something a little extra to do on his nights off work. The Lido, Den, Hollywood, Maggie's all cater to this type of businessman. Yes, the girls are often past their prime, the drinks at these places are way too high. The girls also expect a "premium" because they can speak English, and know that only someone with enough money in their pocket would talk to them anyway.

The primary advantage to these establishments is that they are all very "safe". A majority of the girls in these establishments are on the game, so you do not have to worry about approaching someone who is just out with their friends having a good time (and risk her boyfriend beating the crap out of you). just got back from a week in beijing, and thought i'd report what happened.

I guess things are indeed slow in Beijing but 2 DVD stores in Ya Xiu and 3 behind Sanlitun Village (some of which have a few Bluerays). The quality in these 3 is better than what is found at Ya Xiu (generally).

Last October I stayed 2 nights at the HZ Wan Hotel.
Good hotel and location, shops, atm, arcade, kfc, night market and massage close by (a really blue collar area).
I love to explore the neighbourhood and found some massage places.
Went inside one and asked how much.
Mamasan said 300 and I gave her 200 and picked a really cute girl (about 18-20yo) she was so nice and polite and very wet.
I undressed her and we showered together.

Beijing will be a massive orgy from October 1 until October 7. It is carnival time, there are massive parades and fireworks in the streets every night. The city hopes to make the Guiness Book of World Records with this great achievement.

Are there any good chance to get nice girls. I already tried the search function of this site and look via google. But there was much worthless informationen. Lets ignore (b) for now. What you need to do is provide sufficient data to allow other's to repeat your experience, or assist them in negociation, provide price/performance & traps/tricks hints. No need to describe every thrust or moan or fluid flows.

Saying that, if you have a policy of not providing posts in your home-town, that's understandable - you will never see a post about London from me. But any location you visit, you should be able to provide the above information.

Your posting in hangzhou and suzhou has some info, but not enough to work on. Was the sauna in the hotel or not, what directions from your hotel to the street with the providers. Indicate some landmarks, shops, etc. No need to name the establishment itself.

As I said before, when a member has no real (or generic) information I make the assumption he/she could be an officer of the law and thus I never reply. In this case its ok, because there is basically no real action, which the officers of the law could impact, left. Only the high-class hotel bars, freebie, call-in's, and massage/sauna. And in these case pickings are lean. I suspect even the BBS's will close temporarily.

I think Landmark is a girl friendly hotel. I recall older posts about a decent KTV in the basement of the landmark. You are right across the street from the Sheraton hotel, with the famous Passions bar. You are also right around the corner from the Hard Rock. There probably will not be any girls at the Hard Rock due to the crackdown, but you can sometimes find girls walking up and down the street in front of it. You are also walking distance from one of my favorite saunas. Send me a PM if you would like details about the sauna.

All in all you are in a good location, but may be in the right place at the wrong time.

Prices for streetwalkers from RMB200 up / mamasans ask RMB600 but 400 easily achievable. Quality usually so so - but I have seen and had some really nice young streetwalkers here - just seek and ye shall find

BUT - LE may well have cleared this whole area for duration of congress - Billy thinks this is most likely.

I am glad to see so many new guys posting on the board. I am sorry that our group seems unresponsive, but often there is not much to say. I would like to offer a few suggestions for the new guys:

First, pay your membership. Not only does this help support the site, but it will allow you to send and receive Private Messages (PM). Plus, someone who has paid is less likely (at least in my mind) to be Chinese Law Enforcement. Sign up for a VPN account so you can read and post to this board while traveling in China. Post an introduction to yourself. I have know some of the guys on this board for a long time, and we can be a tight knit group. You would never walk into a dinner party and just start asking questions, without first introducing yourself to the group, would you? Include in this initial post anyplace you might have mongered in the past, especially if it is your very first post. Remember – we are all volunteers, and this board is only valuable if everyone contributes. I almost always click on a new posters name and read some of their previous posts before I reply. This also holds true when I receive a PM from someone. What I see largely influences my decision to answer/reply. Don’t have much to offer in the way of information? If you are a business traveler here are a few tips to safely check out your hotel.

Most hotels have a “lobby bar” as well as a another more traditional bar. Check them out. It will be dead early, but should start to pick up after 8 pm. Sit down, order a drink. Look around. Any girls sitting alone, or in groups of 2 or 3? Make eye contact. If she smiles, walk over to her and chat. If you don’t want to walk over to her, wave her over to you. Buy her a drink if you want, and chat with her. If she is in a 4 or 5 star hotel she will certainly speak English (and expect premium payment). If she asks to go with you, ask her how much. No matter what the value, tell her it is too much, and offer her half. Don’t get angry – just joke around with her. If she was sitting with a group, ask about her friends. Invite them over to join you, or offer to buy them a drink. This is the best way to learn the lay of the land. If there are other guys in the bar, strike up a conversation. Use the old catch phrase “sure are a lot of girls in here”. If there are no other guys around, offer to buy a drink for the bartender. He is there every night, and I am sure can tell you if/when any girls will show up. A 50 RMB drink for the bartender can keep you from wasting your time in a bar that does not allow girls, as well as make sure you do not walk out of a bar too early.

If the bars are empty check out what the hotel has to offer. Almost every hotel will offer in-house massage. When you call down they will dispatch a girl to you. Normally there is some base payment for the “time” (which goes directly to the hotel), and then you tip the girl directly for extras. They are going to try their best to up-sell you, getting you nice and comfortable with a massage, and brushing up against you, and then they are going to ask for a crazy amount of money for a hand job or sex. Be ready to pay big bucks, or send her away. Sometimes they will be dispatched from an in house “beauty salon”, and other times they may be dispatched from an in house spa or sauna. If you are staying in a lower star quality hotel, or a non-western managed hotel, you might receive a phone call asking if you want a massage. These calls are almost always coming from the in-house beauty salon or spa. They will generally be safe (to my knowledge the Chinese do not run “sting” operations in China), but it will almost always be expensive. If you don’t get a call, and don’t want to take your chances on what the girl will look like, look up the location of the beauty salon or spa in the hotel directory and go check it out. A beauty salon that is open after 8 pm will most certainly be offering “extras”. You can ask them for an in room massage, and pick which girl you want. They will not have a great selection, maybe 3 or 4 girls, but it is better than nothing. The spa/sauna is another option. Many are legit places to have a soak and get a massage, while others are simple brothels. You will have to go in and check them out to figure out which offer extras, and which don’t. There are spa/saunas in most hotels, as well as standalone facilities. In many small Chinese cities the hotel spa is your only option.

If you are adventurous, walk around the outside of your hotel. China is one of the safest countries on the planet for tourists. Just look out for pick-pockets, and be aware of the scams that are often mentioned on this board. Don’t ever follow someone to their apartment, a bar, or a KTV. There may be “pimps” outside your hotel (both male and female). If they approach you, ask them to bring the girl to you. If you see a girl you like, negotiate the deal with the “pimp” – the girl most likely will not speak English. Always go back to your place unless you know and trust the girl from a previous encounter.

If, in your travels, you come across little shops with girls in provocative clothing who wave you in, these are the famous “Barbershops” or BBS. You can go in and get a “massage” in the back on the cheap. Sometimes the girls will go back with you to your hotel. These places are a little risky because they are right out in the open. Sometimes they do get raided by the police, but the girls usually know when such a raid is coming. The further you are away from the tourist areas the better the deal you may be able to get, but you will almost certainly need to speak some Chinese.

Regarding crackdowns -

There are 3 major times of the year when the Chinese Vice Squads go into over drive:
Spring Festival (week long holiday based on the lunar calendar)
When the people’s congress is in town (2 week event every other year)
October Holiday (always the 1st of October, and the holiday is a weeklong)

All of the crack downs begin at least a month before the specific event, and last through the event and maybe up to a week after. For those keeping score this means that for at least 3 months out of the year Beijing is not the ideal destination for our hobby. This does not mean it is not possible to partake, but you must just take extra care. Many girls will go home, limiting supply. This will increase the price. Venues that normally offer extra services will limit what they offer. It is best to simply avoid these holidays for your first visit. Come during some other time of the year, and get some phone numbers then. When you return during a holiday the girls will be happy to hear from you because they are most likely stuck in their apartments, not working. Don’t tell me “My company sets my travel schedule, and this is the time when they want me to go”. These dates are holidays in China, there is no business getting done anyway – pointing this out to your boss might show him that you are “china savvy”.

I use a paid for VPN service. It is around USD12 or USD15 per month and always works well even when I travel around China. Downloading the software is no problem as the website is not restricted.

I have used proxys in the past and they have worked but they tend to fail or close down every so often. There are free VPN services which work well but tend to have lots of ads.

I want to answer the VPN question but I will also post it in the China general area where I think we should continue this talk. It is important, but not specific to Beijing.

I joined ISG while I was in the states and had long been thinking about the problem of access to ISG when I returned, but I did nothing while I was there. After my return and waiting a week for the guy to come and hook up the internet I tried to get to the site without success. I spent my first day with internet looking for a free VPN but about 50% were blocked and after installing the 4 that I could get to, I ended up in failure. I started looking at paid VPNs, but I didn't want to spend $30 to $40 for the first time setup fee just to discover I couldn't use it. I found one that is a 'prepaid VPN'. I spent $8.50USD for 5GB transfer and when I use it up I will need to buy more. It was easy to set up and it worked the first time and since I just use it to come to ISG I think 5GB will last a while. (I would love to know more about your VPN experiences and you all feel prepaid is a good way or not. Please post in China General Thread.) Open VPN dot net. So, unless anyone knows a reliable free VPN then I suggest you go the paid route.

Just a short report halfways through my two week stay here in Beijing. I tried to call a few providers that have been recommended here but no luck. I then tried out the "Paradise massage" web-based service (if you search you'll find it easily). Prices were ok for the massage part, 300RMB for 90min oil massage.

I called and asked for the 18 year old girl they supposedly have. 30 min later arrives another girl, 22 years old, figures. Oh well, she was a happy, smiling girl but english wasn't too good. And the massage she started was pretty bad, obvious that this was just something to get out of the way. After 15 min she started to ask if I wanted sex. I asked what the price tag was.2000 RMB (not including the massage fee + taxi), insane. After minutes of bargaining the price was down to 1500 for the sex part. No way. All smiles were gone, massage had all but stopped (one hand randomly, eyes on the clock). We finally agreed on a hand job, 550 all included. She kept complaining during the activity, still watching the clock. All done, grabbed the money, clothes and out she went.

Skip this one fellow mongers, there are greener pastures out there.

ThanksMany legit pharmacies in Beijing carry Cialis. Look for small shops with a green cross out front. Go in and look for the condoms. In the glass case you will see Cialis and Viagra. Typicall cost is 100 RMB per pill - steep, but probably real.

It is pretty easy to find actually. Last time I bought some at that big pharmacy on Wangfujing across the street from the church. Funny thing is the girl needed a prescription. So she bring up a doctor on the webcam on MSN, The guy mumbles something and there you go.

There are quite a few there, used to offer FS bfore, now more reluctant (maybe it is me), they prefer HJ with some TitJ and all ask about 300, which is ridiculous. same street, a bit further east, in an alley, a "paradise massage" with a spelling mistake on the board. they suggest fs at the desk already (1000).

regency: went a few months ago. fs was 1200 (before negociation), i didn't stay (told you, not looking for fs and hj was too expensive).

street connecting 3rd ring to maizidian, sunshine something baths. high-end looking, lots of staff. i was actually looking for a quiet place to read and maybe have a massage. hated the fish-pool, the blokes spitting in the shower, the buffet closing at 22 while advertised as round the clock. some seats on 1st floor for foot massage, but too dark to read. 2nd floor, led to a room (not too kitsch, large bed), presented with a "menu" in english, with various treats (fs was also around 1300 if i remember correctly). all in all not my idea of a bathhouse.

and finally there is an interesting place east of sanyuanli, in the quiet area there. i'll try to find it again and note the street name. quiet leafy street, north/south, on the east side a mp, you have to climb twin stairs to reach the door then go down to the basement. 800 fs (maybe possible to negociate), 400 he. just took a massage, with a girl wearing too much make-up. but cuties were coming out of there when i got in. many rooms, with beds (no massage tables)

and that's it! i will become a member when i find a safer computer.

FA, you are right about that street of BBS. Things were very quiet up until recently. Since the end of the National holiday I have noticed things picking up. The place I mentioned didn't even bother talking about HJ or BJ just straight on to FS. I was a little taken aback and it took me a few seconds to realise what she was talking about. I normally expect to start at HJ and work up.

As for safety, in my experience, as long as you pay what has been agreed there is not any trouble. Before you know it you are into big bucks. Always haggle, it is expected.

Serious, I guess you can also pay these amounts in the South, if you do not know where to get local prices. I once got quoted 1000 ST in a Shenzen Hotel, 50 meters outside it was 200 before bargain. And local prices in Beijing are a bit higher AND the insider places are so much more difficult to find (and in Guandong it is also not so easy like say in SHZ or CP).

But I agree in general, what would I give for a job in the Pearl delta, enjoy it OAH!

Thanks for the very helpful summary. I can add a few tidbits of my own. I stayed in the Sheraton/Hard Rock/Kunlun area in July. I've never had any luck in hotel lobby bars myself, as I rarely see unaccompanied girls. As mentioned here, the hotel spas and beauty salons are expensive and can be variable in terms of the service they provide. When I look in, it is hard to tell if they are legit. There are many pimps on the street, handing out cards with beautiful pics. When I ask to actually see the girls on hand, a few will materialize out of the bushes, but in my experience they have been 5's or less, and of no interest to me. I asked one mamasan to bring me her very best looking girl. She made a call, and we waited about 15 mins for a car to pull up. A barely acceptabe looking girl, maybe a 7.5, came out. I accepted, but once in the room, she was distracted on her own cell phone and not very enthusiastic. I went to Maggies, and there were a few really good lookers, maybe 9s, but all the attractive ones worked for the bar and were only interested in getting me to buy drinks. The independents were 5's or less, and not worth the trouble. In Shanghai, I find that the bars on Tongren Lu have a good selection, many working girls speak some English, and I get a good indication of their enthusiasm from the conversation. Is there anything comparable in Beijing? I'm travelling back there next week.

First, pay your membership. Not only does this help support the site, but it will allow you to send and receive Private Messages (PM). Plus, someone who has paid is less likely (at least in my mind) to be Chinese Law Enforcement. Sign up for a VPN account so you can read and post to this board while traveling in China. Post an introduction to yourself. I have know some of the guys on this board for a long time, and we can be a tight knit group. You would never walk into a dinner party and just start asking questions, without first introducing yourself to the group, would you? Include in this initial post anyplace you might have mongered in the past, especially if it is your very first post. Remember – we are all volunteers, and this board is only valuable if everyone contributes. I almost always click on a new posters name and read some of their previous posts before I reply. This also holds true when I receive a PM from someone. What I see largely influences my decision to answer/reply. Don't have much to offer in the way of information? If you are a business traveler here are a few tips to safely check out your hotel.

Most hotels have a "lobby bar" as well as a another more traditional bar. Check them out. It will be dead early, but should start to pick up after 8 pm. Sit down, order a drink. Look around. Any girls sitting alone, or in groups of 2 or 3? Make eye contact. If she smiles, walk over to her and chat. If you don't want to walk over to her, wave her over to you. Buy her a drink if you want, and chat with her. If she is in a 4 or 5 star hotel she will certainly speak English (and expect premium payment). If she asks to go with you, ask her how much. No matter what the value, tell her it is too much, and offer her half. Don't get angry – just joke around with her. If she was sitting with a group, ask about her friends. Invite them over to join you, or offer to buy them a drink. This is the best way to learn the lay of the land. If there are other guys in the bar, strike up a conversation. Use the old catch phrase "sure are a lot of girls in here". If there are no other guys around, offer to buy a drink for the bartender. He is there every night, and I am sure can tell you if/when any girls will show up. A 50 RMB drink for the bartender can keep you from wasting your time in a bar that does not allow girls, as well as make sure you do not walk out of a bar too early.

If the bars are empty check out what the hotel has to offer. Almost every hotel will offer in-house massage. When you call down they will dispatch a girl to you. Normally there is some base payment for the "time" (which goes directly to the hotel), and then you tip the girl directly for extras. They are going to try their best to up-sell you, getting you nice and comfortable with a massage, and brushing up against you, and then they are going to ask for a crazy amount of money for a hand job or sex. Be ready to pay big bucks, or send her away. Sometimes they will be dispatched from an in house "beauty salon", and other times they may be dispatched from an in house spa or sauna. If you are staying in a lower star quality hotel, or a non-western managed hotel, you might receive a phone call asking if you want a massage. These calls are almost always coming from the in-house beauty salon or spa. They will generally be safe (to my knowledge the Chinese do not run "sting" operations in China), but it will almost always be expensive. If you don't get a call, and don't want to take your chances on what the girl will look like, look up the location of the beauty salon or spa in the hotel directory and go check it out. A beauty salon that is open after 8 pm will most certainly be offering "extras". You can ask them for an in room massage, and pick which girl you want. They will not have a great selection, maybe 3 or 4 girls, but it is better than nothing. The spa/sauna is another option. Many are legit places to have a soak and get a massage, while others are simple brothels. You will have to go in and check them out to figure out which offer extras, and which don't. There are spa/saunas in most hotels, as well as standalone facilities. In many small Chinese cities the hotel spa is your only option.

If you are adventurous, walk around the outside of your hotel. China is one of the safest countries on the planet for tourists. Just look out for pick-pockets, and be aware of the scams that are often mentioned on this board. Don't ever follow someone to their apartment, a bar, or a KTV. There may be "pimps" outside your hotel (both male and female). If they approach you, ask them to bring the girl to you. If you see a girl you like, negotiate the deal with the "pimp" – the girl most likely will not speak English. Always go back to your place unless you know and trust the girl from a previous encounter.

If, in your travels, you come across little shops with girls in provocative clothing who wave you in, these are the famous "Barbershops" or BBS. You can go in and get a "massage" in the back on the cheap. Sometimes the girls will go back with you to your hotel. These places are a little risky because they are right out in the open. Sometimes they do get raided by the police, but the girls usually know when such a raid is coming. The further you are away from the tourist areas the better the deal you may be able to get, but you will almost certainly need to speak some Chinese.

Regarding crackdowns.

There are 3 major times of the year when the Chinese Vice Squads go into over drive: Spring Festival (week long holiday based on the lunar calendar) When the people's congress is in town (2 week event every other year) October Holiday (always the 1st of October, and the holiday is a weeklong) All of the crack downs begin at least a month before the specific event, and last through the event and maybe up to a week after. For those keeping score this means that for at least 3 months out of the year Beijing is not the ideal destination for our hobby. This does not mean it is not possible to partake, but you must just take extra care. Many girls will go home, limiting supply. This will increase the price. Venues that normally offer extra services will limit what they offer. It is best to simply avoid these holidays for your first visit.come during some other time of the year, and get some phone numbers then. When you return during a holiday the girls will be happy to hear from you because they are most likely stuck in their apartments, not working. Don't tell me "My company sets my travel schedule, and this is the time when they want me to go". These dates are holidays in China, there is no business getting done anyway – pointing this out to your boss might show him that you are "China savvy". Good luck out there, and stay safe!

FA, you are right about that street of BBS. Things were very quiet up until recently. Since the end of the National holiday I have noticed things picking up. The place I mentioned didn't even bother talking about HJ or BJ just straight on to FS. I was a little taken aback and it took me a few seconds to realise what she was talking about. As for safety, in my experience, as long as you pay what has been agreed there is not any trouble. The constraints are the following: I. One must compare apples with apples. You can get a girl in a hutong area in S. China for 3 Euro with a room but the girl is doing 10-12 punters per day. At 50 Euro, you are getting a KTV girl that does 1, maybe 2 punters per day.
