AS entertaining as this story is, I have to doubt the truth of most of it. The distance between Huhhot (as it's now spelled) and Beijing is 650 miles, but on the kinds of roads they have there, it could take 3 times as long as in a Western country. Then there is the issue of an Inner Mongolian licensed private vehicle driving across China, full of Inner Mongols with no good reason to be going to Beijing...this isn't the US Interstate system, they need all kinds of permits, etc., even just to get out of Huhhot.

This area has been discussed before including the FS Sauna on the crossing with Zhuajiazhuan East Road, a little further west is a Sauna Spa, which i visted two times. I heard this from a girl who works in a sauna in Chaoyang (I'd rather not name it in the current climate). She said the girls had all been called to a meeting today and most of them were "asked" to take a two-week holiday. Apparently the sauna boss had been given a head's up from the local police station. Unless you are looking for a Russian girl I suggest you just go a little early to Maggie's. Don't know too much about the Novoltel Sanyuan, but it is very close (10 RMB taxi ride) to the Holiday Inn Lido. You might want to make that your fist stop before hitting Maggie's. The study, led by Kimberly Powers of the University of North Carolina, conducted a systematic review of estimated of heterosexual infectivity and found a wide range of results, ranging from zero transmission of HIV after more than 100 acts of heterosexual vaginal intercourse in one study to a rate of HIV transmission of once out of every 3. 1 acts of heterosexual anal intercourse.

The study said HIV risks could be amplified by other factors, such as men who are not circumcised, partners who have genital ulcers or if a partner is at the early or late stage of HIV, when viral loads are higher. In addition, researchers do not know the risks of HIV transmission for certain sexual behaviors, including oral sex.

Sammy is correct - as for pimps, I have never heard of a Russian girls pimps causing any issues, but you may be marked out as a cheap charlie. On the other hand my friends do tell me the pricing structure is different at chocolate when the customer is from the mother land - Россия - which is why most of the girls would of been unfriendly with you if you spoke Russian. As has been indicated by several of the other Beijing brotherhood there is nothing in Shanghai which is the same as maggies or chocolate, although there are a few places which are similar. But a quick caveat, i normally only go to shanghai for the red rope massage treatment and since they closed down my favourite place (Shanghai Hotel L2) i normally don't stay in shanghai while transiting to/from Beijing – so this is based on information i obtained 9 months ago.
Lets start with chocolate, there is no large disco style place filled with laowai service providers in shanghai. If you wish this style of establishment the girls are all local. Back in the old days any disco in shanghai had a horde of service providers, an example being rojams in the HK exhibition building. However the last few times I went to rojam's the services providers were few. Almost no laowai's go to these places, so there is no market for the girls to work. So I have to say if you are looking for a chocolates, forget it. (Freebies can be had at the large disco's – if you have a grasp of pudonwa).
As for maggies, the closest place I can think of is manhattan at TongRen Lu, however someone told me that that bar street had been closed down so I have no idea if its still around. There are two other manhattens, one across the road from the hilton and one in MaoMing, neither were as good as the TongRen Lu barnch last time I went their, but if the TongRen Lu branch is closed try them – the action may have migrated. The manhattan model is closer to a HK bar, such as fenwicks, than maggies. The girls also arrive and leave in waves based on immigration requirement and if they are also working in HK or Japan, so there is a lack of consistency. You will also find the occasional Philippine katoy, which are normally very good looking but not my cup of tea.
The final location is the New Orleans Bar on HengShau Lu (I may have the name wrong, it could be called bourbon street bar, but has a New Orleans theme). Its a big bar with good bands and on the ground level close to the bar you will find lots of free lancers, but a warning, these girls are almost all part timers who only need an occasional trick to buy a handbag, or whatever. As a result you get a real Girl Friend Experience, meaning minimal experience.
I never really understood the whole girl friend experience thing or even the benefits – in this game you want very good looks, good personality and most importantly a high level of experience. Anyway, back to the point – shanghai has its own unique entertainment profile – stay with the sauna's, massage places and occasional KTV's, its not a special laowai bar service provider location.

Quite convenient to get to - not far from SanYuanQiao on line 10. Was quite glad to have maps and navi on my phone though to narrow the place down. The door is discreetly placed to the right of the mall entrance.

Either prices have gone up, or I got a laowai surcharge. Entrance fee was RMB168 (vs 128 quoted below) and 598+398 got 60 mins full service (vs 90 mins below). I tried arguing in my limited Chinese that my "friend" had paid less previously, but they wouldn't budge. However, since I was already there.

Room was quite nice - very 4/5 star hotel-like but only had washbasin, no bath/shower.

Choice also limited - shown 3, all in the 6-7 range - asked for more but was told only 3 available (6pm weekday). So selected the one who was marginally nicest.

Service was enthusiastic - fire and ice everywhere. An experience you must have at least once. Not as good as I've had in Shanghai, but not bad. Very friendly and was keen to exchange phone numbers. It helps to know at least some Chinese so you can build a rapport.

Afterwards enjoyed the included a la carte dinner. Ironically, I thought many of the waitresses were hotter than the masseuses.

Total damage was 1192, including 28 for a jasmine tea. They can provide a fapiao, although the machine was broken during my visit (funny how that regularly happens in many places).

Overall the experience was a bit disapointing given what I was expecting from the earlier posts. Personally, I enjoy the massage experience available above the Maizidian German Butcher just as much, and that's a quarter of the price.

Maybe my timing was bad. I'd welcome any other recent report about this venue. Right now, I'm not inclined to return.

FAEven if you're a laowai you should be fine in Yan Jiao. I went with a group of 6 guys of which, 2 were laowais. The girls told me there are more and more laowais that go there these days. I'm sure it helps if you speak Chinese but I really don't see it being very necessary. Just go to the counter, check in, and head inside. There's no need to ask the front desk what services they offer and what prices they charge. It'll be quite obvious. I forgot to mention, they charge you 15 rmb for a crappy set of pajamas and unless you bring your own or choose to walk around bare assed, you really won't have much of a choice but to take them. So all in damage is 165 rmb, still not bad!

As for the KTV, I really don't remember the name anymore. I do recall that they didn't have the words KTV at the front. Only "Ju Le Bu" in Chinese. Personally, I don't see what's so great about these KTV games. It's a weak attempt at trying to become a strip club, but the prices they charge for a girl to sit with you at 400 rmb is not really worth it. Some of the other KTV's I frequent in BJ only charge 100 for them to sit with you and overnight take out at 800. I personally find it more fun to spend double and take them back for the night.

Room was quite nice - very 4/5 star hotel-like but only had washbasin, no bath/shower.

Choice also limited - shown 3, all in the 6-7 range - asked for more but was told only 3 available (6pm weekday). So selected the one who was marginally nicest.

Service was enthusiastic - fire and ice everywhere. An experience you must have at least once. Not as good as I've had in Shanghai, but not bad. Very friendly and was keen to exchange phone numbers. It helps to know at least some Chinese so you can build a rapport.

Afterwards enjoyed the included a la carte dinner. Ironically, I thought many of the waitresses were hotter than the masseuses.

This morning's Beijing Youth Daily has a front page article, complete with a suitably attention-grabbing photo of a bunch girls sitting around against a lurid red background, reporting a police raid on Passions and three other big venues in Chaoyang District. (The Beijing News also covered the story in a smaller way, on p.12) The raid took place on the night of 11 May, and the source of the information is clearly the Chaoyang police, eager to show they are doing their bit.

The key paragraph, roughly translated, says: "It is understood that, since the Beijing City Police started their special crackdown on prostitution on 11 April, the Chaoyang police have taken swift action. With the cooperation of Chaoyang District Commerce and Industry Department and Culture Committee, the police, using overt inspections and covert visits, have undertaken a major clearing up of over 400 dance halls, saunas and unlicensed hairdressers and massage parlours in Chaoyang. They have made a tough attack on illegal activities such as streetwalkers, prostitutes operating from premises, professional places of prostitution and prostitution services provided over the internet. The police have busted a bunch of gangs running prostitution, as a result of which there has been a 30 percent drop in reports of prostitution in the District."

The article goes on to say that the Chaoyang police will continue the momentum of its "fierce attack" on "ugly social phenomena", and will never rest in its resolve to hunt out cases of prostitution, etc, etc, and to encourage the public to dob in any cases of prostitution, so as to maintain a "good security environment" in the capital.

Now that they've had their moment of glory, and proved to their bosses that they're doing their stuff, maybe the Chaoyang boys in blue will be content to let things get back to normal? One can but hope.

Last night I was chatting with one of the regular Chinese girls at the pig, and she told me a cautionary tale. Last week she hooked up with a German guy staying in the hotel. Since it was after 11 pm she registered herself as a guest in his room. Around 3 am the police came knocking on the hotel room door. They didn't open the door, and the cops eventually went away, but still a scary event.

Anyway, this was "straight from the horse's mouth", not from a friend-of-a-friend, so take care.

SammyI recall in some case, they will knock first and then call your room. If you don't open the, the manager has a master key. Make sure you double lock your door but it might not help. If there is a chain lock, use it.

It seems like the guy was lucky. Do you happen to know the hotel ?

Other posters have mentioned, based on what BBS girls are saying, that the crackdown in Beijing might last until the end of May. I've now also heard this from a sauna girl. She's on "holiday" until the end of the month, while her sauna is "closed for renovation".

The recent media reports all say that the crackdown began on 11 April. It seems to have followed a kind of cycle. I first heard of it in mid-April, when a sauna friend said her bosses had been told by the local police station to clean up their act for the next couple of weeks. Then, a few days ago, we get the big, high-profile raids on places like Passions.

I suspect it will start to wind down a bit from now on, as the boys in blue turn their attention to whatever the next big campaign is required of them from the higher-ups (protecting schools is already becoming the next big thing). But clearly the saunas and BBSs are going to lay low until the end of the month.

W: Thanks for posting these links. Interesting viewing. Only the first four are about the current crackdown in Beijing, however. The 5th one, as you noted, is about raids in Dongguan, but it's in November (year unspecified). The 6th one is about a raid in Xian, date unspecified. The 7th, with the chap doing explanations, is about an incident (date unspecified) at a KTV somewhere in Henan where four policemen went to sing, asked for girls to keep them company, then, when they went to leave at 4am, refused to pay the girls a tip. The girls then started a ruckus and the KTV security got into the act, ending up in a brawl. The 8th report (date unspecified) is about a raid on an underground gambling den.

Apparently it’s crackdown time in Beijing, so the right time to issue my report on Incall services. I started using this type of service as the Olympic games induced other crackdowns and it has remained my main supply channel in Beijing since that time. Feel free to integrate it in the famous Beijing FAQ!

I will distinguish between Craiglist type services (i.e. also on Cityweekend and other sites) and regular mamasan services (Lili, Maria, Mary, Angel,..). For all web-based services of both kinds, there is a common rule: the picture is NEVER, NEVER, the picture of the girl they will send. So don’t waste time choosing the girl you like best on photos. Average delivery time is around 30 mn in City Center, unless you phone very late (i.e. after 1 am). It’s better to start with ST and eventually extend to LT, rather than booking LT a girl you don’t know.

I have a limited experience of Craiglist-based services since I have switched to the other type of service. They usually advertise massage as service, and most of them provide full service. My experience was that the girls spoke enough English, were pretty, and rather in the late 20’s range. It seems that trying to OVERPRICE is the rule. The girls seem to follow the silk market method by starting with such a high price that you feel shy to negotiate the real price. I remember a girl starting at 3500 RMB, hoping to get down to 1500, and finally accepting 800 + taxi, which was fair for this type of girl. I would advise brothers to use these services only if you want a girl speaking English, of the type you can meet in places for foreigners such as Lido, HRC, Den, etc…
The m.o. to follow: 1. call early enough to have time to refuse a girl if you don’t like her and call another one. 2. When you call, clearly say you want sex and negotiate price before. Don’t pay more than 800 ST + taxi. 3. If the girl is pretty and wants to try overpricing you, she will probably say: “we discuss it when I am in your hotel”. 4. In this case, don’t let her start anything (i.e. massage) and negotiate price from the first minutes she’s in your room. 5. No many girls will be stupid enough to go back to their room watch TV when they can quick cash 800 kwai. 6. As ever in China or elsewhere: NEVER pay before if you want to ensure good service.

I have extensively used the type of mamasan services frequently discussed in this forum (i.e. lili, mary, maria, lisa, etc..), and will still do. If you like “the girl next door” type of girls, it’s for you. The advantages are that prices are fixed and rather cheap (usually 500 + taxi 50 for ST), girls are young (18-24 range), more spontaneous and playful. I like this concept of feeling like I’m fucking my neighbour’s daughter. The drawbacks are that quality may vary, as well as girl’s behaviour, that girls hardly speak a few words of English (and sometimes even the mamasan doesn’t know much more), so there may be some communications problem. As a rule, expect to be fully satisfied in only 80% to 90% of the cases (which is statistically compensated by the rather low price). Mamasan will ask for name, hotel, room, hotel phone and phone your room to check if it’s real (better use SMS, it’s more precise).
A few girls are from Beijing, but most of them come from another city and stay maybe 4 months before going back home. Be carefull of outdated reviews. As ever, all pictures are fake in webpages.
The m.o. to follow: 1. Make sure you clearly specify the type of girl you want. For example I like slim girls with small tits, but they think laowei only like voluptuous girls with big tits. Use SMS as much as possible to avoid communications problems 2. Call early enough for two reasons. First you have time to refuse the girl if she’s not pretty. Second, and most important, these mamas have their regular staff and use subcontractors when they are overbooked. If you call late (i.e. 2 am) you will most likely get any girl available at any subcontractor. 3. Don’t change mamasan frequently. When you are a repeat customer, she will know your taste and find the right girl for you. 4. Sometimes these girls don’t have a pro behaviour, which has advantages and drawbacks (i.e. no BJ sometimes). I like non pro, others don’t like, that’s life..

Xinyuannnanlu (the street along Kunlun Hotel), a little bit further than the market on the right side there is an Astro Tea House, which also offers massage. I always wondered what that could be. Last night walked by and saw nicely sexy clothed ladies so needed to check it out. Actually it is a disguised BBS. No idea how the tea is and the astrology will most likely not read from your palm buty anyhow. It is a overpriced BBS with, at least when I was there on a second look overaged ugly providers quoting 100 for a use and skilless massage, 200 for a HJ and another 100 for topless and top touching. Rather agressive. Avoid, better options are nearby. That is when you continue the street turn left and right opposite Yayang Hotel, a street full of BBS but as I reported earlier also similar low quality.

End of that street turnright besides Donzhimen Outer Way first a Sauna like MP, not tried yet and then a small MP besides a Japanese restaurant. Not recommended, had fun with two ladies but 600 for two double HJ and a subpar but still acceptable double massage for 80 minutes still way too expensive compared to other options. SPs had nice B/C sized cups but faces rather average.

So in general this whole area around the Kunlun Hotel south of the Airport Express way and west of 3rd ring East is rather to be avoided. Go North to either of the earlier reported places, much better quality to much lower prices

Suppliers: I mostly used two: Lili extensively, and Maria only recently. I use Lili (phone number finishes with 5100, there are fake Lilis) since long time, she has a very good reputation for service.
