Hi,
I will be visitng Beijing this weekend. Could anyone please tell me where/what taxi services I should use or avoid. I need to go the Courtyard marriot hotel from the airport and also travel around the city.

Things really are dire in Beijing right now. I was out Lido way last night and popped by the Pig on my way home at about 10pm. I thought it might be a bit constrained (eg, no Mongolians, perhaps), but, with the exception of two guys drinking at the bar and some really bored-looking bar staff, it was completely empty! The reason wasn't hard to find: a security guard standing not far outside at the corner of the corridor, presumably to warn off any likely-looking ladies of the night. Grim times indeed.
Can anyone tell me (post or PM) how Maggies is holding up, if at all; I don't seem to have seen any posts on this.
Both terminals should have an official taxi stand, just queue.
Don't go with those drivers out of their cars saying all sort of shit, just go with the human line and wait for the taxi line.
FYI, official taxi in Beijing usually have 2/3 colors on their body, a permanent mounted "taxi" sign on top of their car. Usually, but not limited to Hyundai and VW.
If your ride is too close, they might not be happy, you can:
1) offer them to get a return slip, but you need to understand chinese, or just tell the guy issuing the return slip, saying u stay at lido. Wont work if your flight is a late night one.
2) offer extra cash.

The most popular scam from airport is to go out of the airport expressway at ring N° 5, which doubles the fare price. Beijing has several rings, if you go to the center, the driver should go out at ring N° 2 (the closest from center). If they goo out at ring n° 5 it makes a long and expensive fare. If you see your driver preparing to go out at ring N°5 (or 4), just shout "No" and show 2 with your fingers. For me, they tried this trick in at least 50% of the cases. Fare to the center should not exceed RMB 80.
In town there should not be any problem, just refuse any driver who tells you a price in advance and not uses meter (these drivers are often the ones who wait in front of hotels or clubs).

There were a ton of SW's tonight on the main road in front of China World. Actually between CW and the silk market, as well as down the road (packed with restaurants) that intersects with the silk market. Sorry, no street names as I don't have my map handy. Both SW's and boss ladies who wanted to introduce me to their friends, or who wanted to take me to their "lady bar. " Several were attractive and tempting but having only been in China for a few days I declined all offers. I just don't know enough about. Or feel comfortable with. The risks of a SW situation.
There were very 3 attractive ladies walking together who tried to get me to go to their "lady bar. " I told them I was a little tired and said maybe another night if they'd give me their card, which they did. Anyone have experience with this or thoughts on what might have transpired had I accepted their offer?

It is my first time out and about in Beijing, so based on glowing reviews from the forum, I went to check out Maggie's on Thurs (two nights ago). It was a totally lame sausage-fest. Only chicks there were Maggie's staff, and a bunch of dudes. I had popped in around 11:30, then to Chocolat, then back to Maggie's around 2:00 am (was even lamer that earlier), then back to Chocolat which had little more to offer than a few barracuda Russian girls. Some folks at Maggies said it was so lame because of the crackdown and should be poppin again by next week. I sure hope so. I'll probably have one more night out next Fri. Does anyone know where to find some Mongolian girls in these times assuming Maggie's is a bust again next week?
Visited Maggie last night. It is dry like the desert. For the second time (since I went on friday night), I saw more bargirls than WGs. And the amount of guys over there just ridiculous.
Praying for the tough crackdown to be over.

Wanted to throw in my 2 cents and confirmed at Blue Lake that there is a general police crackdown in Beijing (there is no action to be found at Blue Lake or other popular saunas). This is due to a new police commissioner being appointed who traditionally needs to flex his muscles when he takes office. They don't know when this crackdown will be over.
For general information, some people have been asking how to find Blue Lake Spa. It's actually pretty easy to find off Shaoyaoju stop on the #10 line. After you get off, exit the south-west entrance. Walk along the highway (going west, or turn right when you exit the station). Eventually, you will wind right (since the the highway you are following will intersect with beisanhuan donglu). Follow beisanhuan donghlu until you see a walkway bridge, cross it, and then go on Jing'an dongjie. That will eventually intersect with zuojiazhuang and then you'll see a very large plaza complex called Jing An Shi Chang. You can miss it as the doors are large brown/black wooden ornate doors (the words 'Blue Lake' are really small, and the Chinese name is KungKuan; the elevator will take you up to the 3rd floor).
The VIP special is 598rmb. Hopefully when the crackdown is over, everyone can go and enjoy the sauna.

I just got back from Beijing and can confirm that the crackdown is real.
I was staying in a hotel in Haidian that had free condoms in the bathroom and a placard in my room advertising massage services. This was a hotel almost exclusively used by Chinese visitors that probably would call you up at night trying to get you to use their services. The first time I called them, they apologized for not being able to send a girl up. I called a few days later and gave my room number and waited for a couple of hours for "room service". None came.
What a shame. I wanted to try Blue Lake and other places mentioned here.

I'm a long time reader of the site, and it has served me well in my many travels. I'll be in Beijing for a few weeks, but I have no experience there. I'm hoping someone who knows the ropes would be willing to meet up (maybe Pig and/or Maggie's based on what I've read). Probably looking to go out late night May 16, May 21 or May 22. To be honest, I found the above directions a bit confusing. Wouldn't the closest metro stop be Sanyuanqiao? Anyway, I did an internet search and found the following address and phone number:

Regardless, I will take your advice and try to provide more reports. Hopefully you will find it in your heart to share some love and hook up your SP's with some much appreciated business. During that drink you will be quickly assessed and if we think you can be TRUSTED to treat some of the Beijing girls WELL - then info will be shared or better still you will be introduced.

You need to get the combo of 598 and the 399 or something like that to get the extra service. I do not remember the exact number, but it is around the 1000 plus the entrance fee for the best service

It turned into a campaign of the 'three crackdowns' - drugs, gambling and prostitution. Reasons cited are the UN "International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking" on June 26, and the FIFA World Cup in South Africa that opens on June 11.
That UN day has been in effect since 1987, widely unnoticed. China isn't known for celebrating many UN days. And since when does Beijing take its cues from Johannesburg?
Anybody know the real reason?
BBB is right in recommending not to hand out any info. I'd extend that to "any info to nobody." Technically, it could implicate you. I also advise against posting any addresses or directions on-line - unless you want the place raided and closed.

"Iron Face" who had taken power before Olympics and who's first order of business was to close down Maggie's, has been up-promoted. His successor Fu Zhenghua rings in his entrance with similar high profile closures such as Passions and Regal (http://www.cityweekend.com.cn/beijing/articles/blogs-beijing/the-beat/passion-and-regal-club-closed-for-prostitution).
According to another China Daily report (http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/metro/2010-05/24/content_9884259.htm) more than 1,100 arrests have been made. A special police force will target five - star hotels, nightclubs, large-scale KTV s and saunas.
Last week alone, thousands of venues were raided, 35 bars and clubs were closed. 265 "hair salons" reportedly have been shuttered. The crackdown will continue to the end of this year, says the police. Expect surprise inspections on KTVs, nightclubs and saunas.
"Many in the trade are lamenting that the police really mean it this time," said the Beijing Morning Post.
In a background piece on the matter, (http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/opinion/2010-05/17/content_9858369.htm) China Daily muses that "it is believed that the open crackdown on the Passion Club is an important political signal, showing China's plan to completely wipe out moral corruption." Observers quoted by China Daily "linked the cleaning up with Chongqing's anti-gang activity, in which a large number of clubs and underground casinos protected by local police were closed down, and those involved officers were sentenced. The open crackdown on the Passion Club, which was thought to be immune from such action, was "absolutely the most vital issue in the history of China's entertainment industry. It's like a magnitude-10 earthquake in the corruption industry and has meaning of epic proportions."
If the above is true - and China Daily never reports on sensitive issues without official guidance - this won't be over in a few weeks, and you may want to look elsewhere for entertainment. Old Beijing hands will recall that Passion's had been closed before, only to re-open for an even more well-to-do clientele. Any closures are for a 6 month minimum.
Last week alone, 35 establishments were closed. The crackdown will continue to the end of this year, says the police.
This is Devastating News to someone who's first trip to Beijing is planned for July, especially when that someone has had such delightful experiences with Mongol girls in other locations and was excited beyond words at the prospect of visiting the Mongolian Embassy... devastating... We'll just hope for a miracle.

Have been in Beijing for a couple of weeks, and have tried out some of the spots recommended in the forum (Maggie's, Chocolat) ... unfortunately, these places were totally lame, assumingly due to the recent crackdown. Per advice of BBB, I would like to reach out to any senior members who may be willing to help out - meet up for a drink and, if you deem appropriate, help put me in touch with some local, high quality Mongolian SP's. I'm only in Beijing another week, so time is of the essence (I work long days, but could probably meet up in late evening).

Been a long time lurker on the Shanghai forum (great forum). No additional insight to provide.
In Beijing right now, following Sammy's guide. A little disappointed.
Went to Chocolate at 11pm, the place is dead. Picked up a little by mid-night. But it reminds me of a Vegas show. Girls not too friendly, dancers on stage are super hot thought. Not sure if any of the bros ever took one of them home.
In Maggies now (1 am), the place is dead.
Manhattans in Shanghai is so much better.

I went to the Sunshine Sauna two weeks ago and while it was open, they told me straight away they only did foot massage. Must be part of the crackdown, too.

Observers quoted by China Daily "linked the cleaning up with Chongqing's anti-gang activity, in which a large number of clubs and underground casinos protected by local police were closed down, and those involved officers were sentenced. The open crackdown on the Passion Club, which was thought to be immune from such action, was "absolutely the most vital issue in the history of China's entertainment industry. It's like a magnitude-10 earthquake in the corruption industry and has meaning of epic proportions."
If the above is true - and China Daily never reports on sensitive issues without official guidance - this won't be over in a few weeks, and you may want to look elsewhere for entertainment. Old Beijing hands will recall that Passion's had been closed before, only to re-open for an even more well-to-do clientele. Any closures are for a 6 month minimum.

IMHO Manhattan in SH is by far the closest to Maggies in terms of operation of the bar and attractions available.
Billy loved the original Manhattan on Maoming Lu - it was fabulous.
The TongRen Lu location I thought lost considerable appeal as soon as they started letting the 'lady boys' in.
New Manhattan whilst it is teeming with Viets and Pilipinos just does not quite hit the mark IMHO.
As I regularly go to Phils and pay US$30 for 18 to 22yo's I just cannot bring myself to pay US$100+ for those fuglies in Manhattan.

I lived local, so bicycling was my transport of choice. It gave me a chance to check out the places with slow ride-bys, to explore lanes and hutongs where a taxi would not take me, it was good for fitness and, hell, it was cheap. I even used to take girls from the BBS home on the luggage rack of my bike to bang. I stopped that after a while because different girls each night would soon get the security guards in my compound talking.

Say, if she's really cute, you might go up to 300. Always pay after the deed. Never take her friend coming and 'giving you a hand' it halves their work and doesn't double your fun. Price in BBS FS was 200. 'Massage' no HJ was 50. If you didn't like the girl's attitude just block any up-sell and when you leave, she has lost massive face.

Cost was always 200 each.
Overnights. Possible. About 600. Tried it once, with a country girl who just loved orgasming, and oral. Good strong tall body, firm and she was a really physical girl. But she had the manners of a horse and was the worst hawker of phlegm in all of Haidian district. And she hogged the bathroom, for about half an hour, leaving her spotless afterwards and the place trashed. Get the concierge at your hotel to write the addresses in Chinese on a hotel card before you leave hotel - they all have the info at concierge desk - seperate card for each location you want to visit - and you write the english name beside the Chinese name and you are up and away - just show the taxi driver the Chinese name and you will be set.
As you visit each bar / location grab a business card or 2 for that establishment and you have your reference material for future.
If you announce your dates in BJ and intentions that night in this thread - who knows - some senior members may be out and about and may pm you to make arrangements to meet

I'Ve seen the local BBS have gone into full swing again. Chinese locals are pouring in and out of these places like they are having a two for one sale. I suppose some of the pressure has been lifted, and the girls are out making money again.

I have a normal residential ADSL internet connection provided by China Telecom in our Chinese neighborhood. I have not had access to ISG, YouTube, Facebook , etc or any of the normally blocked sites.
Our cable TV is also restricted to Chinese channels only - no foreign stations at all.
Iou are able to access blocked sites in your hotel without a proxy count yourself lucky I would suspect that they are being monitored

After a year in Tianjin and several months back in the US, I now find myself in Beijing for the summer. After reading this thread for what seemed like forever, I now have a pretty good idea of what to find here. Except for some special situations, I generally find places like Maggies and similar establishments a little too rich for my blood at this point in my life (40RMB for a bottle of Tsingtao??!?!? 80RMB for a gin and tonic!?!? wtf I didn't realize I was back in America)... so that pretty much leaves BBSes and outcall for P4P.
Initially, I wanted to try out the BBS scene thanks to what seems like reasonable prices and Andreas Wang's informative guide. However, with the highly publicized crackdown that seems to still be going on, I thought it'd be better to wait until July before wandering out lest I get caught with my pants down by the police at the most inopportune time.

I have a normal residential ADSL internet connection provided by China Telecom in our Chinese neighborhood. I have not had access to ISG, YouTube, Facebook , etc or any of the normally blocked sites.

Probably 50 - 100 metres past Kelun, on the other side of the road. Easy to spot - a bunch of shopfronts, which includes the BBS. Just look for the spinners - they may not be lit or spinning however.
If the curtains are pulled closed across the door it generally means they are "busy".

Was some positive reviews in another forum on the Golden Sunshine in maizidian street so I visited yesterday. Doesn't seem like they're offering any special services anymore.

In the end there is no certainty to any of the meet and greets in which ever place you go. That is what also makes it interesting though.
I have just come back from a trip the Beijing while the crackdown was on, but thankfully Chocolate was still pumping and opportunities were plenty. Found a couple of good massage parlors in the SanLiTun area. There's one behind the Sanlitun Youth Hostel that's legit but I still highly recommend it. Ask for #17 for a swedish oil massage. She has awesome skills, probably the best quality massage I've had in beijing. Loosened up all the knots in my back. Not only that, #17 is a petite cute 21yr old. Checking my usual BBS the last weeks shows the shops do reopen, but it seems the crackdown still has them edgy.
A lot of shops still remain closed. I'd say about half. Those that are open close much earlier and while open keep a low profile as much as girls flashing legs and trying to make eye contact with pedestrians can keep a low profile. Particularly (this time) Hanzaman and FernadoAlonso, for their efforts in describing Maizidian. After almost 2 hours trawling through the old posts here in the BJ section I was confidant enough to leave the comforts of my hotel in search of the german butcher.

Up to the 5th floor and a right turn to enter #505. I don't know what I was expecting, something like a run down apartment, but was pleasantly surprised.
I was greeted at the door in english, which is just as well, as my mandarin extends to about 4 phrases. Shoes off and lead to a clean and comfortable room with a toilet, shower over a wooden bath, and the normal massage table. Clothes off, disposable pants on and lie down. Like everyone else, I am just about fed up with this recent round. Over the past several months it is just not fun to come to Beijing anymore. Most of my regulars have become afraid to show up at the hotels anymore. They want me to come to their place!KTVs are not illegal in China - there are hundreds of legit ones in Beijing alone. The ones that were busted were ones that were encouraging prostitution. This can go from someplace as tame as letting the guests hands wonder all over the hostesses, to places that have rooms on-site for discrete encounters.
I am certain that every KTV in Beijing is hurting right now, and they all want their business to come back. Just be aware that there will not be any funny business for some time, and don't expect the girls to go home with you. I was recently told that even the Mongolian girls leaving Maggie's are encouraged to take a separate taxi than their clients.
Be careful, and stay safe out there!

Grabbed a cheeseburger at Hard Rock Tuesday night. It was late, I was expected to bring home some t-shirts, and I needed some Yankee food. A couple girls came in as I was (over) paying for the t-shirts. A hostess seated me about 10: 30pm. The band was taking a break. There were about 15 guys at the bar and another 10-15 people at tables. I don't think there were any girls there yet. The 2 I saw enter were still primping near the front. Then the parade started. The ratio quickly leveled out. At least at the bar.

They needed to pay RMB1,200 / month to work HRC - thats approx 40rmb each night - thats why the same girls were there night after night.
Olympic crack down decimated the w.hore trade in HRC and whilst it may have improved a bit it certainly aint what it used to be - UNFORTUNATELY.

Your experience unfortunately reminds me of home turf where the working girls act as though its a favor to provide any small service.

Different from you I already knew what I was heading for and what my money will get me (nil, well almost), but that's besides the point. Had the same bluff coming around then with some bouncer trying to impress me and just walked.
It is of course situational, but in that scenario a bit less fear and a bit more cheek works better and more often than many believe.
What I also find highly amusing: The three standard scams - the tea house scam, the art student scam and the lady bar scam - are all prominently explained in pretty much every youth hostel and backpacker hotel I know in Beijing. Notice boards in the lobby, same three scams, all summarized nicely. They are so old, a decade ago you could already read about them in the Lonely Planet guide books.
May I ask, what are you guys paying for in these 5 star hotels again? Can't be service or the information desk.

Based on that question my guess is you are from the US. No, you will not be in the Land of the Free anymore over here. Means you can drink and skive church on Sunday.
Re. your hotel question, depends a bit what you want to spend. Most members here are not exactly students and a lot are either resident or travelling business men. All are scoundrels.
If you want to move on to Tianjin you can do so from the Beijing Southern Railway station, which you can reach by subway and then it's just a 30 minutes ride I was told. Which means a hotel near the airport is not really necessary and maybe not even the best choice if you want to see something of Beijing.
Decent youth hostels centrally located will cost 200 RMB or less for a double room. No in-house service there of course, but a better chance to mingle with young people of whom a good part already travelled a bit in China.
If you need a few names in that regard, try google Happy Dragon Inn, Nine Dragon Inn, Leo's Hostel, Qianmen Hostel and many, many more. All situated not too far from Subway stations and central.

1st suggestion is to stop the girls from walking all over you. The following applies anywhere in the world.
Before you start anything 1st clearly establish how much and what is included. Negotiate, NO is a great word. Use it.
Don't be shy, say exactly what your preferences are.
Don't like the girls looks, attitude, pricing, what CL or what the agency sent, send her away. You have no obligations, no commitments. If you want, give her taxi money only.

Re. your hotel question, depends a bit what you want to spend. Most members here are not exactly students and a lot are either resident or travelling business men. All are scoundrels.
If you want to move on to Tianjin you can do so from the Beijing Southern Railway station, which you can reach by subway and then it's just a 30 minutes ride I was told. Which means a hotel near the airport is not really necessary and maybe not even the best choice if you want to see something of Beijing.
Decent youth hostels centrally located will cost 200 RMB or less for a double room. No in-house service there of course, but a better chance to mingle with young people of whom a good part already travelled a bit in China.
If you need a few names in that regard, try google Happy Dragon Inn, Nine Dragon Inn, Leo's Hostel, Qianmen Hostel and many, many more. RMB2500 for FS from Craig's list is very high. Usually RMB800-1000 is the standard rate. (RMB1500-2000 for exceptional (model) talent is within reason-and I have seen some on Craig's List trying to sell a more upscale service, though not sure of the quality.) Usually these Craig's List providers do basic massage for RMB300 to 400 and upsell to FS for RMB800 to 1000. I must be lucky because I have had good results with Craig's list and Lilly's. A few stunners with Craig's List, some just "pretty good". Never the same person as THE PHOTO, but some are of near-equal in quality as the photo. At least that's been my experience, which is by no means a guarantee for anyone else. With Lilly's, the girls I have gotten are usually young, eager, decent bodies, but nothing too impressive. Certainly worth RMB500, but no more. So, this may be good strategy overall for Craig's and Lilly-type services: if you don't like what appears at the door, thank her for coming, but send her home with taxi fare and spin the wheel of fortune again.

The moral of the story is, if you want to have a fun time you're going to have to stand up for yourself.
Walk around outside at night, and find yourself some barbershops. Make a hoop with your index finger and your thumb on one hand, and repeatedly shove your other index finger through this hoop in front of the girls you meet. Then raise one finger in the air to establish your starting price.
Now this is very important. At no point should you except four fingers, because your really trying to get in as low as two. If they don't like it maybe the girls in the shop across the street will.
Don't waste your time on CL, but if you insist on being lazy, go to the beauty section of CL services. There is a Mongolian girl offering the "slow" and not rushed massage service. Stop looking in the erotic service section.

I like how you handled that situation. Many, many years ago I was curious about the whole Wangfujing scams and decided to give one a try. Different from you I already knew what I was heading for and what my money will get me (nil, well almost), but that's besides the point. Had the same bluff coming around then with some bouncer trying to impress me and just walked.
It is of course situational, but in that scenario a bit less fear and a bit more cheek works better and more often than many believe.
What I also find highly amusing: The three standard scams - the tea house scam, the art student scam and the lady bar scam - are all prominently explained in pretty much every youth hostel and backpacker hotel I know in Beijing. Notice boards in the lobby, same three scams, all summarized nicely. They are so old, a decade ago you could already read about them in the Lonely Planet guide books.
May I ask, what are you guys paying for in these 5 star hotels again? Can't be service or the information desk.

After reading so much about police raid in Beijing, I was so scared because I was almost caught when the police raid B1 in Shanghai where even foreigners were fined RMB 20k and jailed for 1 night. Those who cannot pay the fine was jailed 3 to 7 days. I said "almost" because I tried to go to B1 just a few days after B1 was raided.
So this time to Beijing, I dare not to go to my usual Sauna to stay overnight anymore (you can pop a girl for RMB 600 or get a very good oil massage with HE for 280 and then stay overnight for free). I booked a bargain business hotel for RMB 199 and found to my surprise and joy that business card with outcall number sliding under the door into my room. The card is in ENGLISH and in Chinese.
I was surprised because I have been in this hotel many times (I cannot stay overnight in Sauna if I am not on business trip alone) and this never happened! So I assume the raid in Beijing has forced WGs to go to hotels.
I used the hotel phone to call the mobile number and asked for the price. The girl on phone knew immediately in which hotel I am (must be from the tel. number displayed). She said 1000 to 1200RMB. I said I only paid 600 in Sauna in Beijing. Then she said 1200 is for models. She can offer me 800 for students and 600 for office ladies. She is very confident about the quality of her girls and said I can send the girl away if I am not satisfied. And she can offer me official (Fapiao) for meals and drinks so I can get reimbursed from my employer! This final argument sticks, so I asked for the Office Ladies.
After about 20 min, a young lady came. Actually the lady is quite OK: Look 7, body 7, must be 36C, may be 25 years old. She is tall, I believe almost 175cm. I would say she is the quality that you would normally find in a Karaoke Bar. I believe those of you who are Americans or Eurpeans would like this girl. But she does not smile at me. I do not pop any girl that does not smile at me and I do not like to pop a girl that is taller than me. So I send her away. She said another girl will come.
When I was waiting, the phone rings. First I thought the call is from the second lady. But the girl on phone asked whether I want a massage for RMB 120. Of course I know there will be more and it may be cheaper than RMB 600, so I asked her to come.
The new girl is at least 30 years old, look 5 and body 5. So I only asked her to give me the massage. The massage was actually very good. Then she offered RMB 400 for FS including the massage. But I do not want to pop a woman I do not like. So we agreed with the folllowing terms: Massage, Shower/Wash me, CBJ, then Massage again. All for RMB 400.
The CBJ was very good. And I was surprised that she actually still make great efforts to give me a good massage AFTER the CBJ. So I asked her to give me her number. I think I may call her again when I want a good massage and CBJ.
Of course the second girl came but I was in the middle of CBJ. So I did not answer the door and she left.
So next time, you can try a bargain business hotel in Beijing. Maybe you will find the cards sliding into your room or you get called by girls offering massage. After thinking awhile, I think the girls must be from the KTV nearby (KTV quality girl + Fapiao for meals and drinks). So how to find the correct hotel? Find a hotel near a KTV. (I read the warning that we should not write hotel name, mobile number, etc since the Chinese police may be reading this forum).

To complete my report "KTV girls seem to go to bargain business hotel now": I was waked up this morning by a girl calling at 8:00 to ask whether I want a massage. Actually the voice was very sweet and I would have asked her to come normally. But since I have asked a girl at the nearby legit massage salon to come to my room at 8:30, I have to decline the offer.
Last night I went to a legit massage salon nearby where all the girls are quite young and nice looking (7 to 9). A few weeks or so ago I went to the BBS across from Worker's Stadium (Not sure of direction, but across from Kro's Nest.) One way to find a guide is just let one find you. There are many university students looking for extra money. Often they will be just outside at the "gate' waiting for potential customer. For example, the summer place, the forbidden palce.
While walking "downtown' in and near the malls I was approached for the services you request.
Another way is check with the hotel you are staying at.
At the hotel you can be refered to a taxi driver who be a good assest in that he can take you to the great wall and wait for you at a reasonable price.
A group of 4 of us did this in Beijing and cost 600 rmb for taking us to the great wall, waiting, and then to another site on the way back to our hotel.
But I am sure there are guys who can give you actual names and numbers.
When I did all of this. It was during Golden week. I / we stayed at a holiday Inn within walking distance of the forbidden city + tianmein square.

Not an easy combination to find. The skill set you're looking for is not common. Basically, you're looking for a Chinese girl who can speak English, who's willing to work as a tour guide, plus provide companionship when asked. I will presume that pretty and young are also prerequisites.
Since you say you're not really looking to get laid, it's probably best to sign up for a real tour. Beijing has a lot of stuff to see, and much more interesting than the Great Wall (which is basically..... a big wall and also not easy to get to) is stuff like the Forbidden Palace or the Temple of Heaven in addition to the new Olympics stuff.
At night if you're feeling frisky, go to one of the famous Beijing haunts and pick up a girl there.

It is really hit and miss with how the conversation, humour or basically anything you say goes over. There is really no one-size-fits them all how to make everyone happy & relaxed. Sometimes it just is not in the cards. If it bothered you much you could just have walked and see if a better vibe is around in the next shop. Or the next. Or the next.
Buying snacks, I occasionally was asked that actually in BBS. Some ice cream or sunflower seeds or what not. Small stuff. But that was always part of the general conversation and maybe you best handle it like that. Some may like it others may view it as a way of time. Suggesting to buy some snack a bit thru the conversation to slow things down and chit chat some more could be fine ... coming in with one and first thing put it on the table and demand everyone to eat will not.
About picking girls: I always pick myself. I think the days of planned economy where you got your consumer goods on a take-it-or-leave-it basis are over in China. It is a barbershop and I expect to be able to chose. Never had a problem with that ever. You should not act like a snotty prince, but you can act like a customer.

A couple of months ago I would recommend going to the Lido to find a Chinese girl who could act as a companion and tour guide. As has been noted, girls are no longer allowed in the Pig. Some of the girls who work out of the Pig can be found on the patio near the Starbucks. Just look for girls sitting in groups together, and try to catch their eye.

Not to sound like an advertisement, but I love the Hanting Hotel as it has a special 4-hour special for RMB100! Esp good if it's not convenient to bring ladies back to your home. And if you want overnight, prices are around RMB250 or something. Good clean and simple hotel with TV/Internet. Use Google Maps and you can find dozens of them around Beijing. I think it's the only budget hotel with the 4-hour special price.

There are many nice "students" who will try to talk to you in tourist areas ("we are students, we want to practice our English!") but it's 100% sure they will scam you (take you to places, i.e. tea house, restaurant, bar where you will be totally overpriced, etc...). Never trust them, NEVER!

They were happy with the guide. I don't think they asked for any "extra" services. My advice - let the guide be the guide and let the WG be the WG. You'll get a better deal and better service in both catagories.

I got their numbers, and tried to get them to go out again. They were real students, and lived in the same dorm on campus. But one was a little less keen to see me again after I got frisky by text, and the other was keen to take me to a karoake. Long-game play going on there. So I upped the friskiness tempo and started sending her texts that I blush to recall now. I figured I should get my money's worth, and it was fun shocking her. Went on for several days.
As a rule of thumb, I find if they operate in pairs they are definitely scammers, if they are alone then you may be able to finesse the encounter into something more agreeable than 1000 rmb for a pot of tea.
Another way, which I haven't tried, is to advertise yourself as seeking a language partner. You can then choose which you like, and try to move that towards socialising, and then move it on to "moving bilateral relations on to a new level". I guess it won't always work.
Often the Chinese will post self-created paper adverts in public places offering services. You could find one of those places (there's one on Yabaolu next to the second ring road in Chaoyang District, and many compounds will have something similar), and just stick a notice up in English. If you don't get interest from genuine language exchange students you will at least meet some Chinese with English language ability.

I did walk past the pig on Friday and though I hear norther-sister voices inside, so I think the girls may be slowly returning. I will try and verify this week, but regardless you will find several northern friends at starbucks.
As for the rest of town things are beginning to return to the new normal - which is certainly not like the old days. Okay, it's been a while since I've posted and it's because I've been swamped up to my eyeballs in work and also because my girlfriend was visiting from Korea for a while. So I decided to take a chance on Blue Lake today after spending two weeks in Shanghai and becoming addicted to the sauna treatment at Golden 18.

I went to Qingniangoulu last night, around 10pm, and it was completely desolate. No shops were open. I had to go to side streets just to see one or two ones open, but they looked pretty bleak.
Are they usually closed on Saturdays? Are they being raided? If so, should we watch what we're saying on the forum, as to not tip off locations?
No, they are not usually closed on Saturdays. Something again seems to be afoot in Beijing. Fernando Alonso sent me a shocked SMS on Friday that Qingniangoulu was totally closed too. So after your post I went out yesterday and did a round to check.
Central Area
Suddenly many BBS again are low profile. Qingniangoulu I also only saw two hidden places "open", i.e. curtains almost closed and hard to spot. Qingniangoulu has always been very sensitive. Always the first to close down at any sign of troubles. I called someone working there and she told me she also has no idea when they will open up again.
Hujialou was a bit better yesterday but similar. Many shops closed and a few only very discreetely open. Same goes for behind the Asia Hotel. At the Golden Dragon Hotel area I one evening saw girls were sitting outside on chairs in front of their closed shops.
On the other hand Chaoyangmenbei Xiaojie area seems to be on the up, don't ask me why.
Eastern Ride
I last week also revisited Liulitun and all shops there were staffed. Had FS (no BJ) for 100 RMB on offer, though that particular alley is extremely local. I last week also did a long ride out to Chaoyangbeilu beyond the 5th ring again. The massage parlors there are still around, but are a very mixed bag of only HJ or FS for not under 300. On the way back then again checked the shops on Chaoyangbeilu inside the 4th ring but 300 FS was the lowest they went.
But all of this was a week ago, no idea how they are all affected by this latest change again.
How does the Haidian area look?

I am new to Beijing and staying near Tsinghua University (South Gate) which is off Chengfu Road, Haidian. Could you please advise BBS or MP closure to this area which provide special services.
Also plz advise how to contact Lily (original) as they there are so many Lily in bejing. As per some Sr. members I tried looking for phone ending with 5100, but couldn't find any.
