my suggestions for those seeking a little tlc during this holiday period:
1: avoid evening hours (raids are most common between 6pm-midnight).
2: keep pijama bottom at the ready.
3. as always, keep a copy of your passport with you (as required by law).
3. for places that are visible from the street, look for places that are closed. a place that can clearly be seen to be open is, in all likelyhood, not offering anything discussed in this forum. this is the "holiday indicator"; a place that is shut for 2 weeks during cny is worth checking out when it reopens.
4. if you're really hard up, or only in bj for a few days, check the door of any apparently closed bbs / mp. some "closed" places turn off the lights and lock the door, but remain on duty. when a client appears at the door, they let him in and lock the door behind him. one place i knew used to drape a steel cable over the unlocked inside door handles, making it appear as though it was locked. when the door was really locked, there was no need for the cable. this is only for the truely adventurous, though, and not recommended for a newbie.
5. if you're visiting a bbs / mp for the first time, politely inquire as to pricing & services before proceding to anything. regardless of the answer, thank them for their time and turn to leave. the real price and service offering will then be spoken (sometimes shouted) to your back as you prepare to leave. this does not apply to legitimate mps (such as those in wangjing) where the menu includes normal massage variants (hong kong, thai, etc). these places have set prices for massage (european is the one that includes hj) , usually displayed on a board or menu at the front desk. as kajos mentioned, additional services can often be arranged once you're alone with the girl.
one more note: there's a lot more to wangjing than xincheng. quite a few apartment brothels and mps in apartments spread all over the area. it is a rare mp in wangjing (indeed, anywhere in bj) that does not offer at least hj, and many offer more. if you're patient and enjoy real massage, try getting a normal body massage on a first visit. your masseuse will often volunteer info about additional services and which girls offer what.

Despite any crackdown in Beijing, Dalian has suffered minimal shutdown in the bathhouses. One bathhouse refused service outright as if it didn't exist the week before New Year. I'm living in Beijing (about 4 years) and found a number of good little places which I'll report on.

One is a 7. 5, and the other a 5. 5. Seems that the whole silk stocking sauna thing is pretty trumped up, as this was just a typical apartment. They want 1600 for both girls, and I was able to negotiation them down to 800 for 1 hour and as many pops as I want as it was clear there was no other business in site. Went to try and find this place after seeing the comment from another poster because it is within a few minutes walk from me to nip out during the day. First went to building 6 and struck out, then went next door.
Place looks really nice from the lobby and there were two really cracking girls on the front desk. Went for the 90 minute oil massage.
Got taken to the room, which was not so nice. Basic with shower (not working properly) but warm and smelled OK. Very nice looking girl came in, little shapely but not fat. I didn't mind this because I prefer this to really skinny girls anyway. Dressed in a nice Chinese style outfit with high heals.

The favourite place of mine I mentioned is "Vera beauty". They are in "sun thirsty" apartment, on the south east corner of guomao, room 18o3. They present themselves as a legit massage and they even have a website.
They offer a very good "kidney" massage for 500 which is full body oil massage (a bit overpriced, I know) when using their "VIP" room (in fact they take you to another apartment than where there is the "official" business place.
If you take it, you can go ahead with higher levels of service as described here under. Take shower first, keep naked and lie down on the room's bed.
You will get a very good full body massage in a fully equipped bedroom. With a very nice HJ a the end.
If you tip the girl (up-sale to 800) , she will get naked and you can touch her everywhere you like (of course, level of touching will depend on the girl). I'm very sad to report a negative experience with the well reviewed, Kitty. IrvI think it should be Huoying (Huo4ying2) area, or Huoying subway station instead of Houying area, or Houying subway station in your report.

If you have a careful look on google map or on baidu map, you will find there are 3 exit on the south west part of the station, one of them (exit D) is along the 3rd ring road.
On googl map, exit D apears only if you have a very close zoom. I guess it explains you missed it.

One place not far from Beijing (esp by plane) is Tongliao, one of the few Inner Mongolian cities with a Chinese name. let's address a certain topic. how deep things have gone underground in beijing. as i mentioned before in an earlier post, a short trip to shanghai opened my eyes to what a thriving easy-access scene is like, and how bad things are up here. it seems like almost nothing is available inside the 4th ring road except for a few shady apartments and hes. but with a population of 20 million with certain expectations of service, you know that perception must be completely wrong.
i am fluent in mandarin after several years of practice, and have been browsing a lot of chinese web sites to find places that us laowai general don't hear about. in a previous report i described my exploration of the silk stocking scene, which turned out just to be apartments, similar to those in van palace. now i'm digging into clubs (huisuo) and saunas, as they are more likely to have a certain level of quality. based on chinese-language reports i've found online, there appear to be hundreds of clubs and parlors that provide fs inside the city, but you either need to be chinese, to get a referral, or both. for instance, check out this link:

it's for the 6th floor club at the phoenix grand hotel. apparently they have tall and sexy models working it there, with prices from 800 to 1400 depending on the package, but you've got to get a referral to get in. i've been to another relatively high-end sauna where i couldn't get them to admit that they had extra services, but the legit massage therapist told me that they did have them, and they were upstairs, and to try my luck again next time. it is obviously no longer ok advertise your services here in the center of the political universe.

I said 500 RMB round trip which was the cheapest I've ever gotton it. Now it looks to be more in the 7-800 RMB trip range.
There are KTV's there. I've never been to them. I picked up a freebie once at this nightclub type place but being in a closed room with many Mongolian men was a scary experience and I do not recommend it (many mongolians are very nationalistic and if you gaze across the room 60 feet away for 4 seconds at a girl who happens to be with him he will come over and start crap).

Haven't spent much time in Beijing over the 18 months so I haven't reported much. I travel mostly in Kazakhstan now but fly through Beijing once in awhile. On my way to KZ 2 weeks ago I stayed overnight in the Lido Hotel. The Pig was really slow at 10:00 PM. About 5 single guys. 2 couples and about 7 girls. Two worth taking out. First, I must admit to a complete ignorance of Chinese language, culture and manners. This was something of a short-notice business trip, and I did not have time to do adequate research. I do a fair amount of international travel and have found this site invaluable, and contributed a report of a very unusual experience here before, using an account I have long since forgotten, but have not had an opportunity to add anything new.
This was kind of an unintentional stroll, as I was hopelessly lost while looking for the Cheongwenmen underground station, and did not realize that "Cheongwenmen" is the former name of that section of Dongchen, and is the name of several varieties of street and other landmarks in the area.
Long story short, I wound up wandering in the area due south of Cheongwenmen East. The road that parallels the Ming dynasty outer wall of the city, just around the corner from the underground station, as it turned out, and stumbled onto North Yangshikou street, where the Huashi Upper 2nd alley and Huashi Middle alley converge.
Walking up and down that street for a while, my mind turned to mongering, since every other establishment is a spa of some kind. Many with intriguing logos and names. And with two sex toy establishments. There simply had to be something going on. There were a number of barber shops, but all of them appeared, from the outside, to be in the business of cutting hair.
Not speaking word one of Chinese, I figured that the flashier looking places may be some sort of come-on or ripoff, and just as I was at the point where I figured everyone on a two block stretch had me pegged as some sort of stalker, I caught the eye of a woman leaving an establishment called "Five Fingers Spa" (from the sign inside. On the outside it, like every other one had the word "spa" surrounded by, to me, entirely unintelligible characters). After a fumbling conversation in which we both at least understood the word "massage", she motioned me in, and I was presented with a price list which, of course, meant pretty much nothing to me. There was one woman on the staff who knew a few words in English and suggested "full massage", and after establishing that she was not saying "foot massage", I decided to take my chances among a fair amount of giggling and twittering.
The rooms looked, to me at least, like a regular AMP layout with a series of doors to small rooms down a hallway. The doors have a round window in them, with some of the windows covered and some not. After being led to a room with an uncovered window (which was probably not an auspicious sign) , I was introduced to an attendant, but had no earthly idea what was in store for my 108 RMB.
I was fully clothed, still wearing my tie, when she motioned for me to lay down on the bed. Which was outfitted with a set of walking rails above it. And she commenced a fairly decent massage, but there was no indication that I was expected to remove any clothing. Eventually, though pantomime, I acertained that it was okay if I removed my shirt, but it was probably not a good idea to remove my pants.
The attendants wear cute uniforms which seem to be easily removable, but despite a marked tolerance for roaming hands, I could not crack the code. I have to say that they were all a cute and friendly bunch, and were as intrigued by my having wandered in as I was to find out what was going on. I'm sure that having some acquaintance with the language would have gone a long way, or perhaps after a couple of visits there may be more in store. But as I have a few more nights left in town, I would appreciate any pointers on whether repeat visits would be a good idea, or if there is some other customary protocol for signaling my intentions without giving offense.
On the way back to my hotel, I was met by a woman who provided me a business card and offered to send a companion to my room for something in the neighborhood of 1000 RMB, but I'm more of an AMP kind of guy, and would prefer not to have hotel visitors.
So, all I have to report is TOFFT, but I'm not a first stringer on the away team here. I have to believe there is more going on than mediocre massages on this strip full of fascinating establishments, and will certainly maintain the confidence and reputation of any information that might come my way by PM. I was particularly intrigued by the "LM-CUTIE" shop, but couldn't quite figure out whether "1800" was an opening time or a price.

The only thing good in the place is the Filipino band whose members I had since befriended with. The price these Russian and Mongolian are asking is ridiculous, and rarely a stunner. Just to set the record straight, there was this total wanker that I thought was my good mate. He goes by the handle of Heart Broke Billy, Poor Sucker Billy, Hopeless Romantic Billy or something like that.
The truth of the matter is that he fell in love with the hoare in question and then she left and married some Scandanavian Grandpa (She told him Norway, she told me Denmark).
Ok, so he did give me her contact but that was because she was already in Guangzhou to renew her China visa and wanted to earn some cash. And, yes I did enjoy her several times. And, I agree that she provides some of the best service I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying.
But, the financial angle is backwards. This hopeless romantic asked me to front her some money so she could buy a ticket to meet him at some place unknown. Being the good mate that I am, I agreed to help out. It cost me 5 grand; 3 grand for the ticket and another 2 grand for her and the mate she brought to introduce me for the future since she was leaving town to meet this wanker. As it turns out, the mate was nothing compared to this hoare and the double with them was a waste of money because at the end of the day, I only wanted to do this hoare in question. Later, she called me to tell her this wanker was going to kill her since she screwed up and missed the flight. Probably a morning flight since she never woke up before 4pm and was always late for our rendevous. She was totally unreliable. And, to top it all off, I never got back the 3 grand.
So, the morale of the story is, never help your mates when they fall for a hoare.

NO NO NO It wasn't this girl who perpetrated the scam – quite the contrary – this African girl who I cut from the herd in Beijing was an absolute SUPERSTAR.
The devious and deceitful scam was orchestrated and carried out by a fellow AFF member going by the name of ReallyOldAsiaHand Or GrandpaAsiaHand or AncientAsiaHand Or something like that.
Some years ago this guy befriended me in old Hollywood when he could not pick up a decent hoare so he sought my counsel which I readily supplied. Mid last year he came to me again pleading this time if I could fix him up with a dent hoare – I quote – 'Please please Billy can you handball me a decent hoare – I am just like Sammy T and Fernando Alonso – I just cannot find myself a good girl'.
I am more than willing to share info with AFF brothers so I handed on the contact details for girl in pictures who was my BEST Girl at the time – that is the last I ever saw of either of them.
This guy promptly squirrelled her away to his home town in Guangzhou for his own sole enjoyment – I never saw her again. He then provided finance to smuggle her out of China to places unknown – POOF – in the blink of an eye – I try to help a brother – only to lose my BEST GIRL.
If you run across this guy in your travels – steer well clear – interaction with him can lead only to trouble.

That is a far throw from what could be called a scam billy. If anything it seems like your friend was the one who got scammed.
But you guys should probably take this ridiculous nonsense to PM's.
Moral of the story: don't fall in love with a hooker or lend her money. Though most of us probably knew that.
