Craig's list. Thorough investigation. Result = strong rip off.
OK, I was certain I could find a way to make this into a little gold mine, or at least pay some small dividends. I was sorely mistaken.
Over the past couple months I've tried out about 10 numbers from CG. I intentionally went for the ones that I thought were most likely to have real pictures (I. E. Not those obvious fake ones, ad said "100% really photo", etc.) , or in a few cases I just abandoned the idea that the girl would be the one in the photo and went for quality massage, service, etc.
Here are the results:
Number of photos that were real: ZERO.
Number of girls that said their photos were really, really, really real, even after questioning on phone: ALL OF THEM.
Number of girls that up-sold: ALL OF THEM.
Average price quoted on CG: 200 to 300 RMB.
Average starting asking price: 2000 (some even quoted prices for "happy" or "happy ending" online at 500 but immediately went up to 1500-2000 once in bed)
Average landing price: 1000 to 1500, and two girls left with nothing when I tried to bargain to 800.
Average quality of massage (1 to 10) : 1 (only because I didn't include zero as an option here)
Average quality of sex (1 to 10) : 5 or 6. A few did ok, none rocked my world.
Average looks for the girls: Surprisingly not bad in this category, but not nearly as good as the pictures, even the "natural looking" pictures.
Average punctuality: 30 min to 1 hour later than promised, and unbelievably three NO SHOWS (they messaged hours later saying they had been busy and could they come immediately now, but I never replied).
There seem to be a few adds on there for no up-selling (500, 700, and 800 prices listed right on the subject lines) , which are the three I didn't try since there's no way those photos are real. I should have though. Maybe I will sometime, but I'm so burned out on CG that I've had it for the time being. Anyone who has feel free to inform us.
Conclusion. Avoid CG like the plague and leave it to the business travelers who don't know any better or don't care.

As others have mentioned, Craigslist is a bad option. If you don't feel like navigating the crowd at Manhattan, try something like 999. The "ball massage" is actually there, but it doesn't come until afterwards and it costs extra.
I've never been to Wave, but I was given the impression that Wave / 999 / Bodi / Southern and two other outfits in Shanghai actually belong to the same owner (s). So I would assume the business model is the same.
If you want a ball massage, you get that after the "massage" and when you are sitting in the waiting room to relax by requesting a foot massage. The foot massage lady will then try to upsell you to the option which includes the ball massage along with the regular leg massage. (price ranges from 300 500RMB, takes about an hour total)
The foot massage lady would assume you would want a HE as a result of the ball massage, but you can tell her (assuming communication is not an issue) that you don't want another shot. Instead she will focus on your inner thighs and the area surrounding the balls. Which can work wonders when done properly.
Some outfits like Heting Elite, has the ball massage sort of part of the package, but it doesn't occur always due to time limitations and other factors. Hint* After you finish your thing on bed, the massage lady is supposed to get hot towels and some sort of heated bean bag for you. When they give that to you, they are supposed to give you a massage including your balls. Chinese back scrub service is available, where a very strong Chinese guy is going to rub your skin with a towel for a deep clean (10 15 minutes process). Most Westerners would skip that for health and privacy concerns, but Asians usually appreciate it. The back scrub service itself shouldn't cost extra, but the powder they rub on you at the end might cost extra, although it is probably a trivial amount, so I didn't really bother to make sure. After the massage guy rubs the powder (usually a mixture of sea salt and fragrances) , it is recommended that you spend at least three minutes in the steam sauna then rinse off in the shower stations.
These services are available after shower and before you enter the main waiting area.
After the "main event", you would be led back to the main waiting area. You can request to get a foot massage or ear wax removal. Both of these options will cost extra. Bodi is located in a rather strange place. My experience has been that very few SH taxi drivers know what a map is!
Better option: Have your hotel write out a destination slip for the taxi.
Even better option: Somebody post a scan of the Bodi business card, showing the street location as a little sketch. Most taxi drivers seem to be able to recognize these simplified maps, and all of us can benefit from them.

In Shanghai the back scrub is something I get about once a month, maybe with greater frequency. If you have explored US Korean Spa's or saunas some of them have a routine which is close to this. In the US you may have to ask for it. She will scrub you with a scratchy mitt and then spray you with warm, not hot water. Wakes up all of the body. If you know the provider she may bring in a little milk and honey, before you leave the shower area. Talk about preparation. And the finish is a total body experience.

It was east of the river in the area north of Long Yang Road, west of Metro. Probably Du Juan / Haitong / Yinghua Road. There are several MPs in a row. Each place is different, but she likely does get something from the 288 base price. It also depends on the place and location, but many of the VIP massages at this price include a happy ending.
Anything else you give her on top of that is likely for her to keep. Most girls have a sob story, whether true or not. Some really are hard on their luck and really do need to make money for their family back in the village, and many are just smart enough to have figured out how to manipulate customers for more money.
For the most part unless it is clear, you are with someone who knows, or you know the mommy well, it is best to ask what is included in the services and the total cost involved. It is best to be firm with these girls or you will just end up with a really expensive and lame HJ.

Yes, some saunas want the girls to fill the whole allotment of time to ensure she doesn't shortchange you and just get you off asap. The sauna business is very competitive and management wants to ensure decent levels of service to attract repeat business. There is a lot of investment that goes into a decent sauna.

I am not sure about this club, but I do know that some "hot" clubs in Chengdu hire girls as "decorations" to give the club the appearance that is is "happening" whether it is true or not. I am sure the same thing goes on in Shanghai, heck that may be where they got the idea, since a couple of Shanghai clubs have "sister" clubs in Chengdu.

Those girls are there to sit, play games and drink with you. Your expected to tip them when you want to leave. You can negotiate to take them out but don't know current costs.
I am not sure about this club, but I do know that some "hot" clubs in Chengdu hire girls as "decorations" to give the club the appearance that is is "happening" whether it is true or not. I am sure the same thing goes on in Shanghai, heck that may be where they got the idea, since a couple of Shanghai clubs have "sister" clubs in Chengdu.
I have never really tried to pick up one of these gals for a number of reasons beginning with every guy on the planet has tried to get into their knickers and I don't have the language skills to make even a feeble attempt. On occasion though they seemed intrigued by my "lowai" status and have danced and laughed and tried to get me to buy another bottle which I decline.
I will say this though, they don't hire dogs for this job and as strictly eye candy. It works!

I'm staying in Shanghai this week in Pudong, and swarming outside my hotel every night are a bunch of men and women offering to take me to the "Ladies Sauna", with 300 RMB FS. The chances of getting set up is very high, and nearly impossible to figure out if you are being set up before it is too late. You risk physical harm if you don't empty your wallet. Some people on this forum have even reported being strong armed into pulling money out of an ATM.
This goes for the Tea House Scam, the Buy me a beer Scam, the Sauna Scam, the Hottie for the too good to be true price Scam, the I am Learning English will you practice with me Scam, the I am an Art Student come see my artwork Scam, etc. You name it, it has been used as a line to draw you to a place where thugs will threaten to beat the living crap out of you. It simply isn't worth the risk. There are way too many safe options for pros not to mention freebies, to bother with the risk of a tout.
If you don't heed this advice, I hate to say it but you deserve what you get.

Here are my my reports about the New Waves and Sacrosa sauna I visited recently.

Saunas: Been to 999 and Sacrosa. 999 will accept credit cards is about 30rmb cab ride from the hotel. Sacrosa is accessible via subway. Most saunas are about the same. Same service model, about the same price. Just need to get lucky with your choice.
Bars: Never been to Malones or Manhattans. But I imagine they are just like Orchard Towers in Singapore.

Long term is Manhattan if you like pho or adobo.
999 is fish bowl, sacrosa is lineup like CP. I like both places but sacrosa has happy hour special, finish before 7 and it's less than 600 rmb.

FzThe military vehicles have white license plates. Govt officials or 'connected' people have black plates and everyone else has blue plates. Police cars are clearly marked. You can buy infrared and NVGs at the pearl markets and fake goods markets too.
That being said, you shouldn't let anyone try and get you to go with them unless you are absolutely certain its police and they show you valid I'd which rarely happens anyways.
Given all the scams going on, its not too difficult to imagine a new one where you get shaken down by people posing as military or govt officials.

I must confess, I didn't take these guys seriously, I assumed they were simply trying to sell cheap fake rubbish at a fancy price, (ever been offerred a "Cannon" camera outfit or "Nokio" phone!). The vehicle was definitely not an official vehicle, and they were also trying to talk to Chinese drivers. That said, there were four guys spending thier time on this, and using a seemingly brand new vehicle.
We are cautious of scams on foreigners, but we are not alone! In my experience Chinese people are very gullible, take a bus tour to anywhere to see the sales patter, be it tea, jade, or silk!

In the Gubei area, I tried Bi Li Hu sauna, per the recommendation of another member. It's is located one block from the intersectionon Hongbaoshi Road and Gubei Road. Next to it are a Subway sandwich shop and 7-11. During theday, the fee is 630rmb.
Standard sauna routine. It's only has beds in the room, no wet room. Service from 883 was good but had a lot of rules.
It's good offering if you are in the Hongqiao area but not really worth it if you have to trek out there.

Southern (Nangfang Sangna Hui Suo) Sauna Club might be the closest.
You could also try your luck at Yao Hong (originally known as Ji Yuan 3) , but I have no clue if they are still open.
Central Taiwan huh? Everyone seems to be really excited when they talk about Golden Jaguar in Taichung.
Here in Shanghai, Golden Jaguar is just a buffet. Sigh.

I bet those guys were not military and the military fatigues were likely for marketing. Most military who want to sell military equipment probably sell those things off wholesale to some chump who in turn sells that stuff at flea markets rather than risk getting caught.
However, as it turns out, as far as military stuff goes, a year or two ago I read an article about how easy it is to buy a fake white military license plate. Apparently the sellers of these plates are fairly ballsy about it and at the time the article was written they were fairly open about it at flea markets. I forgot where I read it, sorry.
The article said apparently as far as enforcement goes, most local police don't mess with the military and vice versa, plus nobody has a database to keep track of how many and to whom special plates are issued to.
So if you swing some big brass balls, look and act like police or military, and drive around in a suitable SUV or expensive sedan, you can drive around as if you really are entitled to be a dickhead driver.
Just don't get caught!

It is a nice experience, but not really a must to repeat. But in any way, if you have a chance to try it, it is worth once. Quite some nice feeling, a girl hanging from the ceiling, spinning around with her mouth cover your little friend. But as I said, once is enough.

Thanks, R. I managed to sneak away from family to make a visit to this sauna on West Nanjing Road, very close to my hotel. Easy to find with the instructions on the 2009 review (do a search to find it). The facilities were very nice and clean and the staff were excellent. All spoke English so no language problem. Cost was 680 RMB. I had a choice of 6 girls, and chose #86. A little older (maybe 30?) but had great tits (at least see / the cup) and.surprise- spoke very good English. Only a little bit of LFK, but good service with BBBJ, followed by several positions and then hand / BJ to completion. But no CIM unfortunately.
Probably the service / price is better at places like Sacrosa, but for the convenience and the excellent facilities, I would recommend this sauna to tourists.

I did the red rope twice in shanghai a few years ago in famous shanghai hotel sauna.

Thanks. I also would like to know if there are any BBS in that area. If you don't find anything I'd recommend checking out the cluster of BBS at Chengjiaqiao Road. It's a subway trek over to that area, but it's fun once you're there because there are so many of them in close proximity. There are many kinds of payment plans. If you buy a sim card at a main outlet they must register and require ID.
You can then request them to allow foreign calls. They will sell you a payment plan with a fixed minimum monthly charge.
If you buy from a street kiosk, the sim is normally pre-registered by the kiosk owner, in his name, thus no formalities, handover 50rmb for a sim card preloaded with 50rmb. These are best because the payment plan has no subscription componet. Imagine, the kiosk owner may have many preregistered cards on his hands.
If you wish to use the Chinese card abroad, you need.
To charge it above 300rmb, then call the help line, you can arrange foreign use for one month free of charge.
If travelling in China, charge up before you go, it is difficult to charge a Shanghai card outside Shanghai. Last week trying to recharge a Shanghai China mobile card in Nanjing was impossible. Only the smallest kiosk sell cards valid throughout China.

Since the crack downs began last year prior to the Expo, my friend and I have now made it a habit of checking with a local law enforcement friend before heading to any saunas, just to make sure the coast is clear. We were thinking about going this weekend, but were told to definitely avoid any activities for the time being. Apparently their is a major law enforcement conference in town, specifically related to cleaning up cities of prostitution. A number of places are actually closed during this period.
But another interesting thing we were told is that, in situations like these, for the places that do stay open, they will tell their regulars to avoid coming temporarily. But for non-regulars, managers will tell them everything's safe. So it's these unsuspecting customers who may end up being 'sacrificed' in order to help law enforcement to meet their quotas. One of those "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" types of mutual benefit.
Not sure to what extent that is all true, and I don't mean to falsely alarm anyone, but better to err on the side of caution, if you can hold out for a few more days at least. Those places that are closed should be back in operation towards the end of the week.

I've only used that particular one once, and the massage was good. Their branch in Hongfeng Road. Jinqiao is very good for standard massage, very popular. I believe Congen Health Massage is also legitimate, there is one near Thumb Plaza. People tend to give Dragonfly gift vouchers to others, not use themselves because it's expensive unless the lighting and decor is important to you.
I do not think so. Take a tour of the sauna's and soapy's that have been reviewed here. Slip the girl either a couple hundred rmb or a couple Franklins (she'll most likely know what they are worth).
