Hi Phazze, was reading thru your posts; you're a young guy just out of university, kudos. Plenty of opportunities in China, but without any real work experience, you need to ask yourself why would a western company spend a lot of money to make you an expat when they could hire a native chinese for a fraction of the cost and at a fraction of the risk? While in Shanghai, I made the long taxi ride out to the Hong Song Sauna next to the Hilton Hongqiao. It has been one of my favorite places.
However, when I arrived on the forth floor I found it was closed. Construction workers were busily remodeling the place.

I have found that getting vitamin V without a prescription is sometimes successful, sometimes not, at Shanghai pharmacies. My current theory is, go to places that advertise it in the window, and only go in when there are no customers in the place. I have been turned down at a couple places lately, but no problem at an empty store. It has a few names, but ask for Wei Ge.
I saw a post earlier in this thread about Lisa's services and decided to try for myself.
Seen her twice so far and she was truly professional. Went for the nuru massage both times, she really knows how to work your little friend with her hands. Though to be honest I prefered the massage part. Surely will be seeing her again.

There is what I presume a massage parlor on Siping Road. Just a bit past the family mart next to the station exit outside of the KFC. Does anyone know anything about it?Siping road has a lot of those massage joints. Look for the discount sign if you read Chinese - 7. 5 or 8. 2 or something like this. The standard routine is half sauna style body to body massage, some licking and either HJ, BJ or full service rarely. I've had a fair bit of success with girls in these places going beyond the standard service but the challenges are often have to sift through a lot of low quality to find a gem and without Chinese skills you will probably not get more than the standard (which is often good enough).

As per a Board Member's kind suggestion I tried to go to 999 massage yesterday afternoon. The place is closed for renovations, though the guy there said it would be open again next week. I can confirm that they are doing some construction work there.
He says that most of the girls have moved to another place and gave me their card I think the place is called Sy Club (I can't read Chinese).

Can anyone local advice me? I plan visit to Shanghai in late Oktober / early November and want to take hotel in Merrylin because sauna there was always good in last ten years visiting Shanghai. But the hotel is not showing on all the booking sites and nobody answer the h]phone as I call.
Has Merrylin / Siyuan shut down for any reason? It is my favorite hotel / sauna I SH so please let me know if closed down.

PE.I stopped by Siyuan at the Merrylin Hotel earlier this month, and I noticed that the hotel is closed (undergoing renovations) and a guard / sentry in front of the elevator. At times, he would motion people away. When I asked him what was happening, he told me that the sauna was turning away non-regular customers because of pressure from law enforcement. Apparently, the recent crackdown in Shanghai was making the owner nervous. As a semi-regular, I was allowed through.
Is it true that 999 and Hong Song are closed? The end of an era in Shanghai! Both were among my favorite places.
Minhang district has BBS and saunas by the dozens. If you're in Shanghai for mongering I'd recommend getting a hotel around Hongmei Rd and you should have lots of choices within a 5 km radius.
Sauna cost varies from 600 to 780. There are higher cost ones. I think people are overpaying sometimes because we tend to stick to the same locations which raises the prices so here's a new one to try out:
1. Hongxin Club, 600 RMB, 80 min. Standard "wet massage". On Qixin Rd near the Gudai Rd intersection. Ask around where is the "108 Plaza", the club is right across from it. The 108 Plaza has a huge yellow light sign on top of a tall building so it's not too hard to see if you're at the intersection. If you can't find 108 Plaza within 2 minutes of walking you're going the wrong way. Again it's on Qixin Rd not Gudai Rd. I was given a choice of 4 girls at around 10 pm.
BBSs's are not always my thing but if you're fine with a 20 minute non-GFE session, here are a couple of personally visually verified locations for BBSs. I have not tried them but the service should be pretty standard. BBS cost is 200 RMB for locals.
1. From Caobao Rd go south on Hongmei Rd. There's one between Donglan Rd and Pingnan Rd and another past Pingnan Rd.

Inspired by SamCan's post below, I went to Judys for first time. I figured there was really no difference between Manhattan and Judy's so I never went there. I believe most of the scammers have gone home and the actual working girls come out. I've picked up twice there after hours (I like to stay near there to have access to stores and restaurants when in town). They just whisper "sex massage". Not pushy or loud. If they approach you and appear to be selling you can try my trick: I took off my watch and back-pack and as one approached I said in English, "Sell you my watch? Sell you my bag? You really should read the forum and you will find these answers but being in a helpful mood, I will highlight some places:
Massages: 1808 Beijing Road and YuYuan road (I think the address is 250). Both are near the temple. Then there are several and Shanxi Road North. They have been written about but I have never been.
Spa: The best one is in the knock of mart. Fend Ding Wan or something like that. It's on Nanjing Road near People's Park.
Pick up bars: WG hang out at these bars. Check the recent posts for long-term and short-term. They are all on or near Tongren Lu and Nanjing Road, right near the Portman Ritz Carlton and Kerry Center. Malones is an irish pub. A Phillpino cover band plays there on weekends. They play good classic Rock & Roll. Older WG and some locals hang out there. Judy's is across Nanjing Road. WG hang out there as well, some locals, some Viets and a mix. Finally, the biggest is Manhattan which is right off of Tongren Lu. It gets busy 11 PM on weekends. Lots of Viets there, some Thai, some LB. Try all 3 as they are within a 5 minute walk of each other.
There are also some bars at Xintindi where you can pick up women. I have never been there but read about Paulanders and some others.

I am not all that experienced and only been to Shanghai once but had a most amazing time at Bodi spa, entrance is to the left of the entrance to the Bodi hotel, right off some highway, can't miss it. 880 RMB. So, went back to East Nanjing Road, looking for a tea shop. Again touts kept coming, even with all the mass amount of cops around.

It's. An interesting experience. Do touts figure that if they annoy you enough, you'll give up and follow them?
'No. ' Doesn't seem to register with them. I made a point with one, and gave a random beggar 50 yuan to get her to back off.
There was one that wanted to go have coffee with her, 'no need to be in a hurry' and all that. She was decent looking, but no go for me.
Kind of puts me off from actually looking for any places for fun around there.
If you had gone with her you probably would have been robbed for about $500 US. She takes you to a place where she has an arrangement with the manager.
While she distracts you he brings a tray of unordered fruit and drinks. Then you get an inflated bill. She gets a cut.
50 yuan is a good days pay for a beggar. 5 would be a big amount.
My advice is to be careful with touts. Some but not all of them are thugs. Just keep walking and don't talk to them or make eye contact. A polite tourist saying, "No thank you," is what they want.
That is the start of a conversation to them.

This scam will always work because as the American circus baron PT Barnum said " there's a sucker born every minute" It happened to me in 07. I went back the next day and got half my money back by yelling at the MaMa and pounding my fist on a table.
Has anone else seen the man with no fingers and a burned face at the Jingan Temple metro stop? He was in Suzhou a few years ago, but moved to greener pastures. It has been suggested that he failed to satisfy a loan shark and attacked. I gave him 20 kuai yesterday and he was extremely grateful.

AL.I used to stay at the Sheraton HQ. There was a laminated letter on the table that stated it was Chinese law for guests after 11 pm. They did not enforce it as the hotel had a key card system in the elevator and a note on the table.
I would walk into the hotel in my late 40's (almost 50) with my 25 year old Chinese girlfriend on my arm. We obviously did not look like we belonged together. The doorman would push the elevator button for us! Obviously they thought the note and elevator card got them off the hook.
Interestingly enough, the Hilton in Jing an seems to have relaxed forcing the sign in since they added a key card to the elevator.

An actual report for once. On suggestion of a post earlier in this thread I decided to go to Hongsong east road and check the area out, wasn't really planning to do anything.

The same kind of story happened to me a couple of times with qq girls. So don't worry. A good experience would have been surprising actually.
They are extremely wary about disclosing their exact location to first timers, usually it turns into a cat mouse hunting game. Eventually you get frustrated by the whole process and tell her to go to hell. That s usually when they try to get you back but it s too late.

As I live very close, I may just go there next time and see what happens.
Dongsen Club:
First time I called (FYI, if you have never been there before, you MUST call in advance), Qiqi who speaks very little English, quickly handed the phone to Tony (fluent!) Have been there 3 times now; here is a summary:
Pros:
* Very secure - 2 out of the 3 times I was there, I was unable to operate the elevator myself. There is someone in the building lobby you have to get past first, once you're in the elevator, he calls and gets you sent up. The 1st time I was there and was able to operate the elevator myself, the staff was clearly off-guard by an unannounced guest and had I not spoken to someone just 15 minutes earlier, I probably would have been sent away.
* clean: I am pretty sensitive to this and have no issues there whatsoever.
* variety of girls: each lineup has been at least 15 - 20 with several quality choices.
* If you don't want to lounge around (see one of the cons), you are taken straight to your private room. No locker room, no other people to see, etc.
* Tony: the English speaking manager is extremely helpful and posts updates on WeChat. I was a bit disappointed with the service in the first visit and told Tony the next time. Although I did not take his recommendation, he did make a point to tell the girl I chose that I was disappointed and 'make me happy'.
* Nuru: I am definitely not an expert on this, and others here may argue with me, but from what I can tell, they have a true nuru massage. After selecting a girl, she will come out with a plastic cup of gel. The last girl I had went beyond the wet, body-on-body massage and included licking, sucking and BBBJ during the wet portion. BTW, she was not the best looking, but was recommended to me by Tony for her service. Cons:

So far, no kissing or DATY (which I would like) but BBBJ always, along with multiple pops within the allotted time. You can also have two girls, although I haven't done this yet. Sam.Yes, it was a pretty good, quiet, unrushed GFE, nothing spectacular, but definitely a good experience. In the bar, she was the casually dressed and polite type, and the experience was very much in line with that initial impression.

I've been in SH for a couple of weeks now and I'm about to leave, so here's a braindump of loosely organized thoughts. I come to SH once every year or so and the situation changes nearly monthly as far as I can tell. Apologies ahead of time for purposely omitted details.
Hotel: Probably because it was an extended stay, my company put me up in a 2-star chain hotel near their local office. A little more specifically, it's in between the middle and inner ring roads in Xuhui District near the edge of Minhang District. There's some construction around that area. Not the prettiest of places, which matters when you take back certain WGs. Many of these chain hotels now require key cards to use the elevator and a security guard manning the door at night. If you book a hotel and you plan to ask girls to go up to your room, check with the hotel if they require cards. Otherwise you'll have to personally bring them up each time and sometimes even register them. Fortunately there are still many hotels that don't require cards. The first hotel I stayed in had this requirement. I looked around the area for a similarly priced hotel which didn't require key cards and my employer agreed to the switch. This made things a lot easier. The location has a few interesting pros however. As I mentioned before in an earlier post, most saunas and BBSs in SH seems to be in Minhang and there was even a small collection of BBSs within a 7 minute walk. So if you're into those options, it's far more convenient than a location closer to the city center.
Using the internet: for my previous visit, Google. Co. Hk and Gmail was usable, but this time, everything Google has been pretty much disabled by the government. I had to switch over to Outlook.com and Bing / Baidu for my email, search and maps. US websites that use Google APIs also loaded very slowly since the browser has to time out on whatever on the page is using Google APIs before loading the rest of the page. Translate. Google. Cn works though. Of course those with VPN won't have this problem.
BBSs: I only went to the small collection of BBSs near my hotel. The local price as I mentioned earlier is normally 200 for FS. I checked out BBSs in other places in Minhang, and the price is the same. However I don't like the cramped spaces that most of these places offer so I wanted to take the girl back. The mamasans at most the locations where I'd have to take cab to will not let their girls go to my hotel, so the ones close by were the only real options for me. Most girls there are 6 and below on the looks scale, but during the first week I found a 7-ish girl from Dalian in her early 20's. She was kind of tall for a Chinese girl, around 170 cm. I would highly recommend that customers 'interview' the candidates before bringing them back. To me, the best way is if she seems interested in talking to you, so take the time to converse a bit before leaving the place. I had 3 Viets during these two weeks the best and hottest one by far coming from a more experienced 27 year old named Jenny, 7 or 8/10 on looks. She tells me she's worked before in Dubai and Singapore, so some of these girls have been around it seems. She also gave me one of the best BJs I've ever had from an Asian girl including some sloppy deep throat. A 20-something and a 25 year old who weren't nearly as attractive as Jenny gave me pretty weak experiences. A Venezuelan cost 1500ST and was pretty mediocre as well (referenced in an earlier post). Again, it could be that the hotel is a turn-off to them. I recommend those looking to do a lot of pickup around Manhattan / Judys to get at least a 3-star hotel within a 10 minute cab ride. There were also a group of black girls at Judys, probably African, but black girls are readily available back in the US so I didn't go there.
Saunas: Saunas give you the biggest range of experiences in SH so there's a lot to say there. My hotel location again was convenient in getting to the sauna fields of Minhang district and Chinese sauna girls don't mind budget hotels as long as they're relatively clean. If you read Chinese, there are several Chinese websites where Shanghai saunas advertise. I highly recommend first finding then browsing these sites if you read and type Chinese because 1. You can check out (photoshopped) pictures of the girls ahead of time and their services offered, 2. You can contact a 'sales rep' or jingli ahead of time using QQ or WeChat to check the availability of a girl and reserve her. Certain girls offer facial, anal, bondage, CIM / swallow, even BBFS and cream pie, so if you're into special services, you'll have to be specific with their jingli. The sales rep gets a small commission for each visit. Many saunas offer Russian / European / Korean / Japanese / Kazakh / Black etc. They're much higher priced and higher demand so your chances of getting one is greatly increased if you schedule one with the jingli ahead of time. The lowest priced one I visited cost 540 for a 'dry massage' near Hongzhong Rd / Chengjiaqiaozhi Rd. It was actually the most enthusiastic sauna service I had this time around. The highest priced one I saw advertised was 1400 for a Russian. I tried to schedule her but was she was not available. That same sauna also offered a Japanese girl for the same price. Most saunas also offer different levels of local girls. The be-level are the basic ones costing 600-800, A-level are often priced at 1000 and are typically better looking. Non-Chinese, if available, cost 1200-1400 from what I saw. Be aware that higher price does not equal better service.
Of course if you don't reserve a girl you'll get a lineup. There are two types of lineups, one where the girls are in a fishbowl and they can't see you and one where you're in a room and you can see each other. I'd always prefer the one where they can see you. You're almost guaranteed to get good service if the girl smiles at you. If she likes me, and if she's 5 or above in looks, I'd take her over a 7 or 8. The worst experience I've had at saunas is where I went with a hot girl behind a fishbowl who later had no interest in me. On the opposite end, more than once I had been offered BBFS and 'boyfriend' status on the first session.

In my experience, I have always had to provide my passport. Police apparently require the date of last entry into China. So reception staff always photocopy both the passport facing page and the page with the most recent entry stamp. This is even if you are a temporary resident of China (with a Foreign Expert certificate), and may not have been outside China for many months.
Maybe requirements differ in different parts of China?

Left out of your hotel, right at the crossroad and go north on Hongfeng Lu. Cross the highway (Yang Gao), the first turn on your left will be Yinshan Lu. Close to the corner are a few massage shops. The girl at that time is sure you understand her sentence like that: "Oh, she is so poor and even don't have a phone now, I have to buy one for her"! While I do agree with most said here I would like add a few things just for the sake of perspective. Talking about Chinese girls is as much useful as talking about say American girls. They are all individuals and different. Even if it does not seem like that. Do not forget what a Chinese says and means an be very different. Often they just want to test you. I met great Chinese people in all social classes but also many selfish assholes. Again across all social classes and origins. Another thing to take into account is the level of poverty many of these ladies suffer or their family in their hometowns. Visit these places and you will learn a lot about the real society here. A few hundred RMB still can change many families life's. And cost of living is going up dramatically. Money as a security deposit in current China's money centric society but for many people it is a necessity. Not all are Gucci wishing money grabbers. People are also extremely flexible. One moment a gold digger the other moment she may do you for free and cook you dinner. All happened to me. But also the opposite applies. This is one key for me to understand life here. Nothing is as it seems. Nothing stays for long. If you are not able to adapt fast and react accordingly you will have a difficult life in China and just get screwed continually. Just be a bit clever and life can still be gorgeous. Enjoy as long as it lasts.

I have known personally of a few cases, and read of many, where a parent just fatalistically accepts an easily curable illness and gradually die because they cannot afford the costs of medical treatment. Coincidentally, the father of a friend (of my GF) died in agony last week of a leukemia related illness. And the girl's tight-fisted English BF refused to even donate a few RMB to make her father's last few weeks of life a little more comfortable.

Just some advice for everyone, you probably really want to watch it with Spa visits.
My favorite had always been the spa next to the Hilton on Hong Song East road, but it got closed start of November. Same with Yu Yuan on Lian Hua Road and 99 on Qilian shan road. Probably quite a few others too. The only ones that remained open was New Wave on Zhong Shan Road (inner ring) near Wuzhong Road and another spot I hadn't known about close by on Wuzhong Road. All girls from the other sauna's pretty much crammed into New Wave.
The one on Hong Song road reopened for about a day in mid-November before they had to shut down again. As far as I know New wave is still operating (I think the owner has several places, but this one is a bit lower profile and he has his connections) but they did have to close two days ago for a day. Compared to other places that can be considered cheaper, but overall as an amount is still damned high (more than a normal daily net salary, right?
Less than 1000 RMB looks impossible.
The point where I need your help is the "barber" shops. I never tried those. Any idea there?
Anyway overall, what a disappointment this city (price wise)!
Ok, so arrived last night, long flight and with time difference it's been over 24 hrs without sleep. Hotel downtown in Pudong. I'm not up to much tonight but I'll do a proper report when I've been out and checked it out. Not sure where the fun is, been scouring the forum but it seems places open and shut frequently and compounded by the fact that this city is huge. Been working all over Europe and obviously these cities, Athens, Rome, Lisbon, Paris etc are a lot smaller so easier to get to grips with. If anyone can recommend places to go here I'd appreciate it, I know about Manhattans already If not I'm sure I'll find my way around and will report accordingly.

As for BBS, laowai price averages RMB200 to 300 for a very short time (typically 15 minutes or less). Yesterday I was a bit drunk walking down the Nanjing East pedestrian road. I suspect that these things are better organised than we think. Recently the authorities were easily able to give advance notice and closed down all establishments in the recreational or leisure category, for two weeks!
