I'm travelling to Shanghai on my first trip in two weeks time. Staying in the Crowne Plaza City Centre. Can anyone advise is it easy to get girls in the hotel, best pick up places to visit etc.

Just to report a very bad experience in a Sauna / MP in Fuzhou road. This Sauna is located on the first floor (in the corner of a building), have red lights on the door and Red neon "BAR"sign. It is in front of many ICBC ATM (cash machines). I don't know the street number.
I know China quite well and never had or heard about such king of aggression and violence in Sauna or MP. Every street sign lists the street name in Pinyin. Each store location has a number. When you are in a taxi you can tell the driver the pinyin name of the nearest steet corner "Lou kou" in order to drop you off there. CheersI can tell you, no need to worry in Shanghai to bring a girl to your room. No one care about that, different to hotel stuff for example in Shanghai. Only around Chinese new year, the national holiday in autumn and sometimes when they hold up conferences of the communist party the rules will change a little bit, but at the moment all that is no problem in Shanghai.

Taxi are cheap in Shanghai so anywhere close is not an issue. Not much action near there except for some touts on the street which you need to stay away from. I have stayed near there a lot at Howard Johnson about a block away.

The thing with MP's is that there are too many factors and variety that goes into what's considered a typical MP, hence the different prices.
I've stated in a previous post on a couple of types of MP's that exist in Shanghai. Some may find the prices reasonable, some may find it cheap, or some may even consider it expensive. As I've said before it would be best if you could find yourself a native monger and have him point you to places and services you want. It basically comes down to how much you are willing to spend.
MP's are a dime a dozen. Odds of coming across an uni deal (is that a word?) massage is a given, especially if you are a frequent monger. They have been raided without any forewarning and several girls and customers went to prison.
We still try to find out, if also foreigners have been catched "with trousers down", but till now no detailed report from our "LE-contact". But a raid without a pre announcement is very unusual for Shanghai, so we all should keep in mind, that nothing is 100% safe, even not here in Shanghai.
And for all of us who ever will get catched in a raid, do not act too arrogant (many guys think, because they are foreigners with a good job and income, they are in a good position)!
The police in Shanghai recently got much more used to foreigners and there is no "respect" you can expect just for be a foreigner any more.
And it's only a small step for them to ban your visa for years!
So better "act guilty", ask for the penalty charge (and pretend not to know and understand, that this is just a payoff to them), pay what ever they ask for and leave! I would recommend not to bargain, and avoid any civil disorder!
And don't think you are rich and get a advantage simply from that! This time has passed long time ago! Many of the Chinese guys around make in one week what you think is your great salary for a year!
The only reason why you have a good chance that they let you go is the combination of the extra income together with avoid lots of paperwork.
But no need to worry too much, in China there is nearly always a way out, but you should avoid to close that door by your improper behavior.

I actually went thru an incident around last week where LE came into the MP I was in. It was in baoshan area at around 4 pm.

The other LE said to check the other rooms and so they left.
I'm not tryin to make this incident sound in any way comical. I was shitting bricks. But it worked so that's that. The raid lasted for about 20 minutes or so. They left without any incident. The masseuse then told me that everything was fine and we could continue. She said an extra hour will be added free of charge. I was no longer in any mood. I doubt if I was going to be able to get it up again. I showered and left. The dudes who worked there were laughing their asses off when they heard what I did. MuteYou have been lucky, because it is like the girl told you, the used condom is the evidence that can bring you in trouble very fast. By the way, that is reason why many shops not offer any service, where you need a condom.
But also a stupid client can be reason for that. Some weeks ago there was a guy who believed when the police told him, he would not get in trouble, if he would tell them what really happened inside. After he admitted that he got "naughty service" there, he and the girl have been taken away by the police. Different to some other countries, the police is allowed to lie to get what they want to know.
And I agree a fine is would not be a big problem. But for getting caught in a prostitution case is not something can be handled with a fine. As far as I know the girl and the guest will be punished with 20 days in prison (If the girl caught first or second time, third time is punished with 2 years for hear).
And I guess it is hard enough to explain to your wife or company where you have been the last 3 weeks, but the big problem will be, that they will cancel your visa, so that you have 3 days to leave China and you will be banned for another 3 to 5 years from getting a new visa for China. That can totally change your life plan, if you need to be in China for business.
But as my Chinese friends use to say: there is always a way to solve a problem, if you have the budget for that. But it is getting more and more risky to get caught by someone, who is not corrupt.
So I wish all of us, that we will not get in trouble like that!

I was expected to see the front door padlocked again and I were to be met and taken up through the back way. But the front door was open, and inside was hopping: there were over 10 johns I could see, and the play pens were all occupied. For example I make sure that I always have two "backup pockets" filled with 3000 cash each for that case with me. Just to make sure, I can at least try to use that "emergency exit" for the case I get in a trouble like that. But just to evaluate the risk, even that is my daily business for years already and even I am in touch with many frequent monger here in Shanghai, neither I or any of them have ever been caught, so for someone who not daily monger around, the risk should even be much lower.
So don't worry too much, just enjoy.
I've been here twice in the past couple of weeks and had a couple of very different experiences. First time was a Thursday at opening time, arrived at 12:45 pm, waited until around 1:15 for the lineup. I recently posted a very short review on kang ding indicating I could find no fault (other than the location for me). There's more to the story, and I've finally decided how to deal with it. The reality is this was the most amazing GFE I've received in China (not just saunas, but LT pick ups as well). This was in no way a sauna service, we had a very simple shower, then straight to the bed (although there's a large wet bed in the shower area). I was initially disappointed, but went along. However, to the best of my knowledge, prostitution is an administrative offence (not a criminal offence) under the Penalties for Administration of Public Security (2005).
According to this law, both prostituting and visiting prostitutes are offences administered by the PSB. A WG or a person who goes whoring can be detained for between 10 and 15 days and may in addition be fined up to 5,000 yuan. If the circumstances are relatively minor (arbitrarily determined by the PSB), the detention can be up to 5 days, and up to 500 yuan fine.
But of course the Police are able to arbitrarily collect whatever penalties they want! My questions are:
• do the police regularly cancel foreigners' visas in Shanghai for mongering offences?
• why would police go to the bother of initiating a visa cancellation (they just want the money)?
• do you have any knowledge of this occurring in other places in China?
I ask these questions because a number of posters here have repeatedly claimed that one will get automatic visa cancellation for mongering and a stamp put in one's passport.

Yes, they may demand arbitrary amounts of legitimate or illegitimate fines (aka bribes) to make the record disappear.
However that is highly dependent upon:
A) how much they need the foreigner to fill said quota.
B) how fast you can negotiate the deal and.
C) how long can you be missed without anyone noticing.
Say if you are tourist traveling alone in China is completely different from an expat expected to show up for work everyday or show up at some meeting.
Like the story I told before, a friend's coworker was thrown in jail for three days, and he finally negotiated his release for 60,000 RMB without an official record.
Yes, his Mandarin sucked, and yes, the LE ignored him for three days before finally sending some officer who is capable of negotiating in English.
However, he had trouble explaining to his employer about his three day absence so he still lost his job and along with it his China work visa.
If I were in his shoes, I might have told my boss I was being kidnapped and held hostage by some crazy locals.
Sometimes LE can be persuaded with money, sometimes they can't even if they want to take the money.
Like if they receive some political directive that requires them to catch some examples of foreign mongers abusing Chinese women.

The area of Nanjing Lu around the Royal Meridian is ground zero for touts and others who make their living conning tourists (even the shoeshine creeps are robbing you). If you want to turn a great holiday into a nightmare just talk to anyone who walks up to you on the street and is friendly. Do not ever go anywhere with a tout male or female (including beautiful teenagers).

I've been here twice in the past couple of weeks and had a couple of very different experiences. First time was a Thursday at opening time, arrived at 12:45 pm, waited until around 1:15 for the lineup. Just to set an update. We had to hide 3 saunas on our page today for at least one month (and we not even charge for it). My contact told me, the "sauna weather" is very bad this days, because after the raid last time the police got a lot of pressure to "copy the success". So many places not sure any more how safe they are actually, so I would be a little bit careful the next 4 weeks, because if even the boss not have self confidence about his status, I also would not be too sure. My filter for the "status" is often, if the boss or good friends of the boss are in the location. Than it's obviously safe. If he has a lot of reason, why he do not be able to show up, I prefer also not to go there.

Yes, I agree that LE (in many countries) are given quotas, and some of the quotas are politically driven.
It seems unusual to me that a person who has committed a minor administrative offence (and not a criminal offence), would have his employer notified and visa cancelled.
I wonder if this is an actual law or a threat by LE guys to extract the maximum RMB! I am genuinely interested how you found out that this law exists.
I am interpreting this to be that his Z visa, Alien Work / Foreign Expert Certificate and / or Residence permit was cancelled at the request of the guy's employer, and not initiated by the Chinese authorities (as he paid a huge amount of RMB to be released without any official record of his offence).
I hope that some other posters can add to this thread as I think that it is important to accurately assess our risks and make rational decisions regarding mongering activities.

Been hesitant to post as I don't have first (or even 2nd) hand knowledge of what happens. And these forums tend to be a bit unforgiving. But what the hell, here's my two fen worth.
While I don't have any experience in this specific situation, I do have experience with both, administrative and criminal law in China (how and why belong in other forums). What I can say for sure is that most, if not all, laws are written to be intentionally vague. Both in the law itself and the punishment. Keep in mind, "the rule of law" (in quotes as that is a word of art) is very new to China and the adjustment has been going on at a snail's pace. This allows enforcement of the laws to be left up to judgement. This is where payoffs and other negotiations come in.
So, without knowing for sure, do I believe there are automatic penalties for being caught mongering, nope. It simply doesn't fit the model. I do know for sure however, that your job will absolutely have an impact in how you are treated. I was recently involved in a traffic altercation (yes, I drive in this crazy city) and was asked on two separate occasions (for the same incident) what I did in China. It wasn't until I satisfied them that I was a contributor to their tax system (ie, had a good job) that they made any effort to really help me in the situation. Personally I think this really sucks, but this is how it is.

Many people on this forum live there. Yes, Shanghai is challenging. It is not Bangkok. You can't just fall into pussy although it is pretty much everywhere you look.
Scams in Shanghai? Of course. But if you have read 3 pages here or SNG's (SNL as you call it) website every scam has been described. My own experience and others have been very good with his site.
I had an awesome experience with one of the girls. I just got back from shanghai and got laid by 6 different girls in 9 days. I had one girl 3 different times. All of these were decent to awesome experiences.
Shanghai is what it is, but I love it and always have gotten what I paid for.

We did and walked down an ally close to the Hagen Das and walked in and was brought upstairs. A line of girls came out and they said 300 RMB. I didn't like any of them and was about to leave. My girl said she needed to use the restroom and left. I'm with the manager and she said 150 RMB and I decided OK. After the deed was done 4 big local guys come in and start to shake me down.
Took my wallet, used my phone to check balances on my cards and bank account. Took my cards and swiped. They said they wanted 29 k RMB and I have no where near that amount. They held me there for some time and I tried my best to talk them down. Ended up swiping about 2 K USD on my cards and made me sign. They let me go and I immediately called my card companies and had them block the transaction and issue a new card.
Do not go to Nanjing Road.
Are the local small BBS safe? It's been two years since I've been back, so I'm unaware.

I've also had good experiences with Steve's girls. Not the cheapest in the world, but some are quite hot and classy.

I really do not share Hobbiest1's negative opinion of Shanghai. I have mongered in a good number of places around the world as well and I found the quality / price ratio in Shanghai to be unequaled.
As a matter of fact, I am seriously thinking of hinting to my boss that I may be willing to stay on this "hardship" assignment in Shanghai when it ends in 2 years (And how about a raise if I stay on in Shanghai, boss? You know it is hard to be a expat).
If I cannot swing that, I am putting Shanghai at the top of the list of my vacation spots, and want to do two trips here each year (unless LE turned Shanghai into a moribund Dongguan.).

Thanks! That is EPIC advice. I have read the last 2 years of forum threads. I was not really lamenting or complaining but just trying to help others with my bad experience. If you read the post after mine another guy was mugged the same way my friend was and the same general area. If Shanghai is your city, you should be pretty ashamed of it as it has more scammers than I have seen anywhere including Bangkok, Manilla, Panama and Tijuana. Your city is the shithole of the world. CONGRATS!

I just returned from my first 2 week visit to Shanghai. First, a little about me. I have mongered in every corner of the world from Tijuana to Toronto, Manilla and Angeles City, Germany FKKs, Pananma etc. My latest. Shanghai. What a poor excuse for humanity. SERIOUSLY! Every single person is looking to scam you. Don't beleive me then just go and see. As far as the ladies. REALLY? What a fucking scam place. After I got scammed a couple times I used a site I thought was solid. SNL. NOPE! I had a girl come over to my hotel. She showed up, showered and left all within 20 minutes. I let the SNL guy know but he never even bothered to respond back to me. Don't use SNL, don't even go to Shanghai. This place totally sucks and you constantly have to watch your wallet. Hey Shanghai. I wish we blew you up too! You are a worthless area that will implode once we start to take jobs back to the US and stop with your f $% nonsense!

This is actually a friendly forum. I have personally given much PM advice to anyone who asks. I also have received. I don't have a lot of tolerance for one post wonders who can't do their homework and even less so for those that visit a place once and bash a place without understanding it.

After 15 years and about 90 trips to China, I have many great friends, female and male. I base out of SH and travel all of China. I love the scams. When I don't have anything to do I get a bottle of wine and sit outside at Xin Tian Di. I love it when the scammers girls come up and want to practice English. I just play along, sometime an hour or so. Then they get frustrated and leave and another shows ups. Anybody that travels the world should know not to go anyplace with anybody you don't know. Every time I go to the Bund to meet for dinner. Outside when I am waiting I must get hit on 5 times. I just NO or play along, it is hilarious to me to let them think they hooked me. Then I just walk into the restaurant and leave them standing there. I must have ten in my stable in SH. Keep in touch with them all the time on WE CHAT. Always bringing small gifts from US and hardly ever pay for anything. Sometimes they pick up dinner and taxi fares. As in any business, treat your customers and vendors with respect and it pays for itself in the end.
I feel for the guys that are scammed in SH or any other city in the US or the world, but thinking with the "little head" will always get you in trouble. I heading over to SH tomorrow and my problem is that I have three lined up for the first night, two will be disappointed, but will take care of them later in the week.
SNL is a good sight and helps all the "newcomers" , yes they have gotten expensive, . But Cathy is around, Beverly Jones is reliable, RAIN's girls are all reliable. There is a lot out there if you do your research. I have never been to Judy's or Manhattan's, just no need to go through all the hassle. (I am early to bed).
So if your planning a trip to SH, just do your research on another site or other forums like this one. There is plenty of information available to keep you safe and have an enjoyable experience. Thinking you can just get something cheap is just going to get you in trouble, as the saying's goes "you get what you pay for" "if it's too good to be true, it isn't there in the first place". If there were not gullible people out there in the world, there would be no scammers.
There have been so many posts about scammers in this forum and in the Shanghai Daily newspaper it is hard to believe some of you get caught up with them.
One time in the middle east many years ago, I went with two guys in Mercedes to visit a factory, because the businessman I was with knew the owners and didn't want to go, I was on a fact finding, kind of under cover mission. Got in the back seat and drove off. The two guys in front seat said to each other " I wonder how much we can get ransom for the American" . Scared the shit out of me, then they started laughing at me. Taught me a good lesson!

You referred to the website that scammed you was SNL was this NGL? Or SNG (shanghai night life guide). I know for a fact that you would have gotten a reply from Steven.
Can you just clarify who scammed you and did not reply?

I agree with your post and couldn't help but chuckle. Being prepared sure helps. I got scammed in Vegas once, and then read about how common that scam was a week later and really felt stupid. But that experience helped prepare me for 'scam sniffing'. For instance, first time I visited Istanbul (another scammers paradise) I was much better prepared and laughed off the myriads of scams thrown at me.
That said, it is still impossible to be 100% scam proof.

Instead of expecting it all to be brought to your hotel room on a platter go out and enjoy yourself. But be careful of course. Everything on a street is a dangerous scam. That is why they are on the street.

Due to the city being the capital, it is completely safe and scam-free. Compared to Shanghai, the air tastes crisp, the areas with BBS' are well marked and the police have been taught to treat expatriates with respect as we are valuable guests and should not be messed with. The Beijing board is much more lively with much more rich intel so you don't need to deal with scandalous middle men with overpriced milfs.
So forget that number two city, come to where the real action is. Beijing.

I will take Gregory be's advice as he and I have exchanged PMs in the past and he has helped me the most. First, I will appologize for offending any board members with my comments and don't really wish to keep the fruitless exchange going. The spirit of this board isto help one another and that was truely my original intent. To notify others of my bad experiences in Shanghai. I will summarize again for everyone now.
1. First night I went to Judys at 1:30 AM and there were many 7's but nothing above. I pulled a very nice girl from Vietnam for 1,000 rmb to stay from 4 am - 7 am.
2. Next I went to Hangzhou and didn't really get the feel that there was many freelancer bars like Judys so I ordered a few girls from Backpage which always has its issues but it was convenient. No issues but way overpriced at 1,300 rmb / HR.
3. Last night () Thursday) in Hangzhou went to Westlake to a bar that was pretty cool with live music. That was Thursday didn't see any freelancers. Had to get in 5 cabs before one understood how to get to my hotel. This really sucked and was very frustrating.
4. Friday arrived in Shanghai and didn't do much because of the weather so my buddy and I had a very expensive (2,000 rmb) dinner.
5. Saturday. SCAM Day! First went to Peoples Park and a few people tried the tea ceremony scam on us but since I did some (evidently very little) home work I was keen to this one. Next went shopping on Nanjing road. Didn't find a lot of stuff so on way back to hotel a lady stopped and asked if she could help us find stuff. She seemed nice / innocent enough so we took her up on the offer. She took us to a bunch of places and we got all the souveniers we set out for. Over the course of a few hours she gained our trust. My mistake I guess. Then she suggests if we want a nice cold beer and some ladies she knows just the place. She took us to some hole in the wall place (coffee and beer bar) and that's where my buddy got robbed of 17,000 rmb by 4 thugs - 1 with a gun. You can read my post on here from a week ago that details our "lesson". No "SCAM DAY" would be complete without a visit from one of Steve's girls (Shanghai Nightlife Guide). She stayed 20 minutes although I paid for 1 hour. I have RTFF and understand the protocol of pay at the end. I get it. I have read in a number of posts about rip offs that resulted in situations where there were physical danger. The thugs had demanded the marks to sign for credit card charges, and as soon as the victims escaped to safety, they called the credit card companies to stop payments. Did that work? Do credit card companies actually cancel those transactions. ?
I guess the lessons may be:
1. do not fall for baits that result in you being robbed in a place where you cannot get help.
2. if canceling the credit card transaction is always possible, just pay whatever they asked for by credit card so you get out of physical danger, and then call the credit card companies to notify them. Don't even spend that much time to talk down the amount (Maybe haggle just a little bit to appear that they will get that money). You want to get out of there, fast.
But I am not sure how easy it is to try to stop payment, or the thugs will not be asking you to sign for a bill with credit card. They will take all your cash and valuables.
I also read when police was notified of the robbery, they helped to recover the cash taken in several occasions. Is that generally true, or those were not so frequent exceptions?

So I should have known better, here on business and staying at my friends apartment. I was staying so close to Nanjing Road I decided to try WeChat with some girls and see where it lead. I usually go to the high end massage / spa places, but this was my mistake. Big mistake.
This girl was very presentable and met me at the Apple Store on Nanjin Road. I thought I could bring her back to my apartment so we walked around and lunch together and she said she would bring me to meet some girls. We did and walked down an ally close to the Hagen Das and walked in and was brought upstairs. A line of girls came out and they said 300 RMB. I didn't like any of them and was about to leave. My girl said she needed to use the restroom and left. I'm with the manager and she said 150 RMB and I decided OK. After the deed was done 4 big local guys come in and start to shake me down.
Took my wallet, used my phone to check balances on my cards and bank account. Took my cards and swiped. They said they wanted 29 k RMB and I have no where near that amount. They held me there for some time and I tried my best to talk them down. Ended up swiping about 2 K USD on my cards and made me sign. They let me go and I immediately called my card companies and had them block the transaction and issue a new card.
Do not go to Nanjing Road.
Are the local small BBS safe? It's been two years since I've been back, so I'm unaware.

First, I will appologize for offending any board members with my comments and don't really wish to keep the fruitless exchange going. The spirit of this board isto help one another and that was truely my original intent. To notify others of my bad experiences in Shanghai. I will summarize again for everyone now.
1. First night I went to Judys at 1:30 AM and there were many 7's but nothing above. I pulled a very nice girl from Vietnam for 1,000 rmb to stay from 4 am - 7 am.
2. Next I went to Hangzhou and didn't really get the feel that there was many freelancer bars like Judys so I ordered a few girls from Backpage which always has its issues but it was convenient. No issues but way overpriced at 1,300 rmb / HR.
3. Last night () Thursday) in Hangzhou went to Westlake to a bar that was pretty cool with live music. That was Thursday didn't see any freelancers. Had to get in 5 cabs before one understood how to get to my hotel. This really sucked and was very frustrating.
4. Friday arrived in Shanghai and didn't do much because of the weather so my buddy and I had a very expensive (2,000 rmb) dinner.
5. Saturday. SCAM Day! First went to Peoples Park and a few people tried the tea ceremony scam on us but since I did some (evidently very little) home work I was keen to this one. Next went shopping on Nanjing road. Didn't find a lot of stuff so on way back to hotel a lady stopped and asked if she could help us find stuff. She seemed nice / innocent enough so we took her up on the offer. She took us to a bunch of places and we got all the souveniers we set out for. Over the course of a few hours she gained our trust. My mistake I guess. Then she suggests if we want a nice cold beer and some ladies she knows just the place. She took us to some hole in the wall place (coffee and beer bar) and that's where my buddy got robbed of 17,000 rmb by 4 thugs - 1 with a gun. You can read my post on here from a week ago that details our "lesson". No "SCAM DAY" would be complete without a visit from one of Steve's girls (Shanghai Nightlife Guide). She stayed 20 minutes although I paid for 1 hour. I have RTFF and understand the protocol of pay at the end. I get it. Thanks for sharing. While not an ideal experience, maybe not a disaster either. Yeah, Chinese taxis often don't speak English, and it's never a good idea to follow touts (even someone who helped you shopping or met on wechat). Otherwise, I'm very surprised one of Steven's girls stayed only 20 minutes if you paid for an hour. He tends to hold them accountable. On the other hand, you did have a good time with several of the girls you connected with. You might have a better time next time if you visit some saunas where you can pick the girl.
Shanghai is not Bangkok, and you'll never get the same price / quality ratio. However, that's why Bangkok is truly unique. Still, Shanghai's got a great range of restaurants, the taxis tend to be honest, and the metro is clean and extensive.

Here is what I understood from dealing with the bank. Since this was a chip and PIN card, this transaction was one that required a PIN. The dude with the gun demand that he be given the PIN. Whenever a transaction is completed with a correct PIN, the transaction is complete and can not be cancelled so the thugs got their money. This does not mean that I lost money as the bank will credit ones account for the loss. I guess this is a minor point as I did not take a loss but the transaction was complete.
As for police. We are there on a work visa and did not want to risk getting that yanked for whatever reason. I'm sure although I don't know that the police are just as crooked as the thiefs and would have wanted something too.

But VISA is pretty much accepted everywhere in Shanghai where plastic is accepted.
Yes, there are a few saunas that have a cash only rule, like Heting Elite or Sacrosa.
But generally I had no problems using my US bank issued VISA in Shanghai.
(At least I haven't seen an ATM in Shanghai that doesn't take it).
I can't say the same for my Citi Master Card though.

I was originally going to let the gun go without comment because while I didn't believe it, it was possible. The reason I challenge it is the China law is very, VERY, clear on this point. Wielding a weapon in a crime is a capital offense. Think about it, given the population, I'd argue that Shanghai and Beijing are two of the safest cities in the world. Per capita, violent crimes are almost non-existent. And that's how they do it. You get caught using a weapon in a crime, whether you even hurt someone or not. The penalty is death. And yes, I can speak to this as absolute fact.

Still, from all what I have read here from him I assume HB1 has an anger problem, maybe this is also the reason why the SNL girl left after 20 minutes.

I recommended this drugstore to many guys already who wanted to buy Cialis or Viagra in Shanghai, and there has been a guy there (obviously a Chinese or Chinese looking) who was very pissed off, because they asked him for a prescription (and he comment that it was also written there. In Chinese. That for stuff like Viagra and Cialis you need a prescription). And always some guys told me they send someone to a drug store and failed to buy it (have been asked for prescription too).
On the other side there was never a problem for me, they even kidding about me already, because I buy so often (and each time more than one box. Not because my hard life, I often also bring for customer and / or friends). But that seems also a "regional regulation", because customers from Beijing told me, there is no request for any prescription in any drug store. Different to their experience in Shanghai.
So I am nearly sure, that actual officially you need a prescription for that kind of drugs here in Shanghai, but they don't care if they are faced to foreign customers, but ask for that, if the customers are Chinese. Otherwise I have no idea why seems no foreigner fail, but Chinese guys gave me feedback they have been asked for.
I would think they know a foreigner can not be there to check, if they follow the "prescription-rule, so they not need to care about.

Hi there,
I have been mostly a passive user here and also a bit shy to actually go out and experience the mongering for many reasons but recently I got horny to often and went to explore. Some things I would like to share and some questions I'd like to ask.
In Shanghai I went to spring massage on Changning Lu / Loushanguan Lu, another one 200 m west from there. It was actually a bit boring and not worth the $$ as the girls weren't that hot and a bit mechanic.
I heard good things about Buddha and went there 3 weeks ago. Got number 5. Not the youngest anymore (maybe around 30) and not the skinniest but very attractive face and very confident expression. At first I was like *oh crap*, but then I though she looks like she knows what she is doing. Her BBBJ was in fact fantastic and even though I we couldn't communicate due to my crappy Chinese skills she was making me feel very welcome and showed a lot of interest. Price was 268.
Now, what made me a bit uncomfortable lying there getting my lollipop treated well was the entire situation about the police. Everywhere I read people say its windy. During that week even some oil massage places were closed and I saw some police cars in front of a massage place on south Shaanxi lu / Changning lu (not far from Buddha). While in the massage places and in Buddha, the girl always put a little wooden stick into a small hole at the bottom of the door to jam it. That made me feel a bit more comfortable but what would happen if there is a raid? Would the cops crack in the door? Also I read on Stevens site that if there's no condom, its technically not a crime they can charge on you. In Buddha its all BBBJ so should I feel okay? Maybe I am just a bit paranoid but I am actually quite scared to end up in prison, pay a fine and being deported while losing the job and being the topic in your entire company. On the other side there was never a problem for me, they even kidding about me already, because I buy so often (and each time more than one box. But that seems also a "regional regulation", because customers from Beijing told me, there is no request for any prescription in any drug store. Different to their experience in Shanghai.
So I am nearly sure, that actual officially you need a prescription for that kind of drugs here in Shanghai, but they don't care if they are faced to foreign customers, but ask for that, if the customers are Chinese. Otherwise I have no idea why seems no foreigner fail, but Chinese guys gave me feedback they have been asked for.
I would think they know a foreigner can not be there to check, if they follow the "prescription-rule, so they not need to care about.

Now, what made me a bit uncomfortable lying there getting my lollipop treated well was the entire situation about the police. Everywhere I read people say its windy. During that week even some oil massage places were closed and I saw some police cars in front of a massage place on south Shaanxi lu / Changning lu (not far from Buddha). While in the massage places and in Buddha, the girl always put a little wooden stick into a small hole at the bottom of the door to jam it. That made me feel a bit more comfortable but what would happen if there is a raid? Would the cops crack in the door? Also I read on Stevens site that if there's no condom, its technically not a crime they can charge on you. In Buddha its all BBBJ so should I feel okay? - yes, for sure the police will crack a locked door. But the girl hope the time they need for that will give her the chance to destroy every potential evidence.
- there is a misunderstanding. I did not write there is no crime without condom, it only means there is no evidence for a crime if none of the involved people admit to that.
- yes, if you join a illegal activity in an illegal massage parlor, you always risk to end up with all the consequences for that.
- if the girl listen to what is going on outside, than I would guess she is afraid about a raid, like everyone who work in that kind of business.
- no, unfortunately there is no day or time where the risk for a police raid is lower or higher, at least we did not found any hint for that.
But if the raid risk is an issue for you, than I would say it's not the most clever decision to go to massage parlors. I would prefer to spend a little bit more in a big sauna. They simply make 50 times more money a month, so they also can pay 50 times more "hong bao" to the local police station to ensure, that they will get informed about a upcoming raid. And they are also mostly much more "hard" to raid. They have hidden doors, blocked elevators and so on, so in a raid the police need much more time till they finally show up in your massage room. That will give you much more time to leave or destroy all potential evidence.
So from my view, visit a massage is cheaper, but also higher the risk for getting police trouble.

Here to shout out a big thank you to Steven. Followed his directions to Changshou Lu / Wanhangdu Lu, found the pharmacy without much problem. Big poster on the glass door as you enter with prices etc. Walked in, pointed to the poster, paid the man, walked out with a box of blue pills. Not a single word exchanged. No prescription asked.

Because last time I checked, prostitution is still illegal in ALL of China. (excluding Hong Kong & Macau SAR, which got to keep most of their own laws).
Regardless of any city you go in mainland China, you will always be worried about the police busting in the door the next minute whether you are mongering or not.

Shanghai just keeps getting better!

Prices start at 998 for 90 minutes, large selection, clean place.

"Men's Heaven" was a name we used in July for a new massage center concept, where the owner asked for our "support" to install a service, that will be especially focused to foreigners.
We liked the idea to set up a place, where you can get all the services "below" a sauna session (regarding to time and rate), but in consideration for people who do not speak Chinese with clear "concept" and a fixed menu like in the sauna clubs.
For many foreigners it's hard to get what they want beside the sauna, because mostly the massage places expect you to bargain about service and price with the girl directly.
So "Men's Heaven" finally opened with a menu starting with a "and job massage", a "blowjob option" and also a "full service option" to select.
Combined with a user friendly not time-, but "shot-limited". And here even with a "fair use policy", that if you need longer time than calculated for one shot session, it will still be no one who would push you to finish fast or pay more.
In combination with western focused details like for example a western styled toilet, but also with a genuine Finnish sauna, foot- and health massage and with an English skilled manager, "Men's Heaven had the potential to get a hot spot for foreign guys who don't have the time or patience for a sauna session, but would still appreciate a place for "release".
Not the only, but one of the most important points in our preparation was to make sure, that the place will be "safe" regarding to the raid risk. And for a shop like that safety simply based on the "relationship" to the one (or more) who is / are responsible for that area in the local police station.
And here unfortunately we found some issues when we did a background check (we also have "contacts" for our "protection" in the Headquarters and we use this way also for to assess the risk for a place we plan to list) and in this background check for "Men's Heaven" we have been informed, that this place is not under any strong "protection".
So to avoid that "Men's Heaven" will get a "men's hell" for the guys who will be caught with trousers down one day, we decided not to recommend that place any more.
It's really a pity, because we are very sure, that there would a great market for a shop like that, especially in the city center, but for foreigners we really not recommend to visit any place without a strong "protection"!

Today I tried to go to Ming Hui but when I arrived and we chatted the contact from Steve's page the guy said "sorry closed today, resting. " They told me to go up the road to a different place. The managers mostly avoid to tell that clearly to their customers, because they are afraid to loose the guys than, because they will think the place is too "dangerous". The normal "excuse" for that will be redecoration, holiday or what ever instead of that!
From my point of view it gives me a good feeling, if a place will be closed because of the "weather forecast", because that is a proof to me, that they have a very good contact to the "weather maker"! That also means the risk to get an unannounced storm or even rain locally should be much lower than in a place, where they never close because of the weather forecast.
The other sauna she wanted to guide you to is a similar place not far away. Most managers have a "plan be" in form of a second similar sauna place. They can bring their guests there, if their main place is closed. Or also if the guest not found a girl he like, the manager still has a change in his second location.

As far as Ming hui goes, Steven posted some time ago that needed to 'act' closed for a while. I happen to drive past there everyday and have noticed the light through the door is no longer visible. And the updates are sporadic at best.
I may know the place they tried sending you to, I recently posted about it, but did not go into detail. It is just a bit further down wuzhong lu from where you ended up. Give me a pm if you want more detail.

Usually all of them have a STD clinic.

Today I was tempted to splurge (figuratively and literally) on a super good looking but SUPER expensive kang ding special model. Over WeChat I asked how much she was and they said 5000 rmb! Wow. So then I decided not to, since that's the price of a ticket to somewhere else in the world where I could have a week long trip and have a lot of fun. What is the most hassle free way to have it done here in Shanghai?A customer recently told me, he would never do the STD check in a Shanghai hospital again. They really insert 3 times wooden sticks in his urethra. Never any action like that was necessary for a STD check in Germany. And I believe him, that this is a fucking uncomfortable procedure! So I not recommend to visit a typical Chinese hospital for that.
But I have to restrict, that this is only a "Third Party" information, so if anyone here can report a "First Hand" experience, could be it is different.

But to give an answer is impossible!
Because the taste of each guy I met is totally different. I often guide customers to saunas, than join and support him by the girls selection out of the pool.
My personal game here is to guess, which one I think he would select. And to win this "game" never works. There are so many different criteria that will finally follow to the result, that a girl is pretty, and (luckily) we not all have the same criteria and also not the same weighting of these criteria.
Seems there are guys outside, who think the ass of Kim Kardashian is attractive. For some guy the girl need some meat, others only like very slim or even skinny, some girls like tall, others tiny, others like small hips, others not. Some think the typical Chinese flat face is totally ugly, others think it's attractive. Chinese love the high noses, many western guys think they look ugly.
So no one can answer your question seriously. For Chinese the answer is mostly: "as more tall, ass bigger the boobs, as younger the girl, as more pretty she is". That is for example the taste which is base of the "model criteria" here in Shanghai, but if you are not a "big tits lover", many models will not really be attractive for you.
So there is no other serious way than to go out and check it out for yourself. Personally I recommend the Jiang Li sauna or the Red House sauna for that, because they have a wide range of girls in selection, so you also have a good chance, that your personal taste is covered in one of this "levels", while you will be lost in Kangding Sauna, if your personal taste is far away from the Chinese "model taste".
