Today I was tempted to splurge (figuratively and literally) on a super good looking but SUPER expensive kang ding special model. Over WeChat I asked how much she was and they said 5000 rmb! Wow. So then I decided not to, since that's the price of a ticket to somewhere else in the world where I could have a week long trip and have a lot of fun. Has anyone ever tried a super high end expensive booking at a place like that? Was it worth it?This girls are what Chinese call "car models". And actually having money is the point which all other guys around will admire and envy you!
Also hard to understand for foreigners: The girls mostly will be promoted with their "car brand". That means they get more customers, if they are the Ferrari or Benz Model than if they would be the model for Skoda. For foreigners hard to believe, that he has to pay 5000 more to fuck the model, just because of the car brand she work for. For Chinese this is the most important criteria for booking a car model here in Shanghai. You can brag out with it by your friends, and that's why you did it!
So from my view the "car models" are never a good choice for foreigners. All my customers who gave them a try had the experience, that this girls are not worth the spending. They expected a special "high class service", which they never got. A Chinese model can make a fortune without offer any special things, just because she mach to the ideal beauty taste. The most of this girls have very restricted service (for example often only one shot, no blow job or only covered blow job, never CIM or anything like that). Simply they think, a guy can be happy if they open their legs for him and there is no need to provide many more for that! And actually they are right, Chinese guys not expect more, but this cause problems with foreign guest, who not understand, that they should be thankful already to had the chance to sex with them.
So my summery: if you expect to get a very good service or a special experience, than the car model girls should not be your first choice.

The price of 5000 rmb is not SUPER expensive for a WOW girl. Think of what you have to pay for a high end girl in NYC, London or Amsterdam. You may spend that amount easily in an upscale KTV in Shanghai and have no pay off at all.
And 5000 rmb will get you an economy seat on a plane. I still recall with dread my last trip back to the States: long flight delays, lousy airplane food, intrusive security check, the long flight etc. I would much rather spend the 5000 rmb riding what you call a super end high girl (or 6 value girls based on a rough average of your usual range) than the plane seat.

Your comments are very refreshing and informative. And though you are right that the show-off mentality may be more pervasive in China, the take-home message of your story seems true everywhere. The hotter a girl thinks she is, the more entitled she feels to the contents of your bank account without much effort. The really expensive providers are never worth it, except for bragging, even in the good ole US of A.
And what I find irritating is that mongers tend grossly overrate their experiences with these providers, maybe out of a desire not to appear to have been taken. Unfortunately this ends up perpetuating the scam.

Starting from today in China will hold an important holiday because of the "Commemoration of 70th Anniversary of Victory of Chinese People's Resistance against Japanese Aggression and Anti-Fascist War". This is a very big and important event for China, combined for example with a huge parade in Beijing on the People's Square.
Because of that it is already announced, that many saunas will get order to close in Shanghai this days (the festival end on 5th). For example in Ming Hui district probably 90% of the sauna clubs have been advised to close their doors.
Jing An Area (for example Kang Ding Sauna) till now have no plan to close, but also can happen on a short note, so for all guys who plan to monger around the next 3 days, better check, if your target location is still open before you go over there.

There advantage has been a great service with a very low rate of "disappointments" (the service finally depends on the girls performance, and here you always will have a rate of "bad service providers", especially if you are a foreigner and not able to communicate with the girl.
We used to stop over in this sauna on our nightlife tours, just because there only one of 50 guys got bad service, which is pretty less compared with other locations in Shanghai.
But frankly we stopped that, after they start to charge a "shower fee" of 168 RMB for our tour guides (which not joined a session). From my view not very reasonable, that our guides get charged for bring a group of new customers over. So better be prepared to pay that too, if you not find a girl in selection you like and leave without book a girl.
By the way, they also have a second location which is a little bit more upscale (but still much lower level than for example Jiang Li or Tang Dynasty) where they also provide Nuru massage. Which is not on the menu in Ba Li Ya sauna, just because they have no "wet rooms" for that.

Last year DG during Chinese new year, this year it was heavy raids on Minhang with places shut down the week before CNY and repeated raids during CNY and after.
I guess its their way of showing to the mass they are active. As news papers will talk about it.
All these sauna managers use websites like sh419, aishi, shlf, and such to advertise, they put qq weixing and phone numbers all of which can easily be listened to by the police. So knowing manager names is very easy since its public knowledge.
As for guys posted outside of saunas for early warning, don't forget that the police knows about them too. As well as all most the warning systems.
When they really want to successfully raid a place they send undercover normal cloth cops from another city or even Beijing itself they use these undercover people some in the rooms, some at the entrance / rest rooms to quickly act and bust people inside in the middle of a session. Outside people come last to bring numbers / backup and surround the place.
The only reason saunas stay open is their protection. The day the reasons to keep them open are lower than those to close them, they are dead meat no matter how many warning guys they have and how much of a maze the place is because when its clothed police from elsewhere that is already inside, its just too late.
This is why so many saunas have been closed in the past.

Go to 389 Zhaojiabang Road, enter between some black gates towards the apartments (there's usually a lookout here with a headset, just ignore him) and basically treat it like a dead end road. Walk about 20 metres to the end of the alley and turn right, keep walking through the car park entrance (probably where you saw the guy sitting) and turn left, walk straight through the car park about 100 meters until you get to the building, turn right and walk 10 metres until you hit the front doors (they're white). You'll kick yourself how easy it is to find once you've been there the first time.

Even with her connections to jump the queue, I had to wait up to an hour or more while punters streaming in and out. It got so bad that the rooms smelled like locker rooms from non-stop usage. And no one gave a damn about basic services, except the girls. At one point, I had a chance to try out some of the new girls while the trainer joined the fun. If the facility was a bit better, it would have been great.

I've had 2 work permits in Shanghai and then 3 years ago a new permit in a nearby city. I had to get a physical in the nearby city as my Shanghai permit had lapsed. I'm unsure if I would have needed to take the physical if my Shanghai permit was still valid.

They are all "dealers" who have only one "product" in stock (or how a girls told me recently: "Unfortunately I have only one pussy" And it is a fact, that they can not sell more another day if they have less today, so from economic aspects the daily profit maximization must be the unconditional goal!
So if the girls have a chance to find a better deal (which they loose if they leave with you), they would be stupid to agree in a lower deal. And will not agree. If they have a high risk to end up with no deal, they would be stupid to refuse your. Even cheap. Offer. So the actual situation is one of the most important point of price range!
And beside that, for sure also the estimate of how easily they can rip you off! If the bar has many "potential customers for them", but they also feel a good chance to sell a overnight to you, cheat you by leave after one shoot, than go back and take another deal, than they are also willing to agree to a lower price. Which for sure will not follow up to a "afterwards payment" agreement!
That doesn't mean all girls who not agree to a "pay later solution" planned to rip you off. I know many girls there who simply had a bad experience with guys who ripped them off by finally paid less or nothing, so this girls set up a rule never risk that again. Even they never agree to serve without forehand payment, some of them will also not cheat you, but the problem is, how to find out what is her plan if you pay forehand.
Personally I don't like the feeling, that the girl in my bed actually want to leave, but only because of outstanding payment she must remain. So I always pay forehand and some girls leave after one shoot, some appreciate my trust in them and want in return give something back. I typically start a little early (11 PM?) - and try to leave by 1 AM. I know that this means a higher price. But I am just getting too old to stay up later. I do generally not negotiate too hard (although LT typically started last time at 2500. Ended up at 1700). Do think it affect the quality.
I do now talk about the payment only at the end. And will not go with someone if there is not agreement. Good thought to offer half up front for LT. It would be less than the ST cost. So may try that if I get stuck.

Totally agree. You cannot expect the girl to be lovey dovey after you drove a hard bargain. That is why I prefer sauna, where there is no haggling over price ( not that necessarily mean the girl will be in a better mood or give better service as a result), over MP or pick up bars. We want to think and believe we make them like us more by spending more on them, but instead the vast majority end up taking you for a sucker and try their best to maximize their take. Instead of providing a great service, they hold back hoping to make you give even more. Like others here, my best experiences have come from the lower end of the going rate in any region I have been. My worst experience was the most expensive I ever paid for, but I have also had 1 or 2 very good services from the high end 'pricers'.

The one constant I have always found is that providers that are quick to demand payment upfront always tend to provide lower quality service. I have found very few exceptions to this rule, very few indeed.

And when the rotations occur, the number changes. The girls tell me the rotation typically occurs every three months sometimes earlier so the customers will get a fresh selection.

My point is that if you beat a girl down too far from her normal price, THAT girl has less incentive to provide good service because you are not a full paying customer FOR HER, and her incentive to want to get you to see her again has gone down. This is a common business acumen and there's no reason it does not apply here. Companies expect to negotiate contracts but if you beat them down to where they don't really profit you are going to get what you get.

I just got back from Kang Ding Sauna, it was my first sauna experience and definitely a good one.
Got there around 11:30 PM on a Friday night. Wasn't too hard to find with the location card on SNG, alternatively you can add the manager TianTian on WeChat (no English.).

This sauna is massive compared to Kang Ding. The only other sauna I've been to is Kang Ding, so bear in mind that's all I have to compare it to. Jiang Li had tons of clients, tons of girls. I got there around 8:30 PM on a Saturday night and there were already a good number of people. My manager contact from SNG, Owen, warned me that they were busy and I'd have to wait. Took about a half-hour before I saw the selection and then another half-hour sitting with my girl before a room became available. When I left around 11:00 PM, there were even MORE people just sitting around and waiting. If you go to Jiang Li, you'd better visit during a non-peak hour.
The facility is nice. Nice decor, spacious, clean. They provide you a Red Bull upon entrance.
The selection was more rushed than Kang Ding because there's no fish bowl and I went in there with like 10 other dudes all picking at the same time. There were about 30 girls in the room, pretty evenly distributed between the tiers (7 XX, 8 XX, 9 XX, 0 XX, VXX). Good variety, should be enough for anybody to find a good match, but they weren't stunners across the board like the Kang Ding X-models. Lots of hotties nonetheless. Many saunas now use this way for getting customers. They often deal now with "managers" who best have a good customer base. This manager get a "per capita premia" for each customer who he or she will bring over.
To make their business working, this "managers" get a discount they can offer to their customers. So the discount rate will be for all customers of this manager, but for all guest who not place a reservation by one of their "managers" the sauna will charge the higher rate.
But unfortunately nearly none of the managers is able to speak English and many foreigners not even use wechat, so our challenge was to find a solution, how foreigners can get the discount without place a reservation by phone or wechat.
So we researched to find sauna clubs which agree to give this discount also to foreign guys without Chinese skills who show up there without any reservation.
And the discount card simply show the Chinese text, that you are looking for the manager named XXXX and you are his customer, so that you will get the discount his or her customers would get, even without the requirement to place a reservation forehand.
That's the reason why you did not have any need to show the discount card after you get in touch with Tian Tian there, if you would simply went over without contacting her, you would have paid the higher rate without showing the card and the lower rate with show the discount card.

Tricky part is that you don't know what to expect if got caught, unlike other countries with law clearly stating what is the punishment or no punishment for monger.

Again I have no way of verifying this information.

There may not be much points in debating prostitution laws in Hong Kong in the Shanghai forum, but there is a difference between legal, like in the Netherlands, where legislation was passed and enacted, vs not prohibited (as tolerated, the term I used.), which is the situation in Hong Kong. If there is such a law in Hong Kong, please cite that by Act, Chapter, section and clause in the Law Acts. If you are in Puxi at the corner of Shaanxi North and Changping Lu go to the north west corner and walk west down Changping Lu 40 meters. There is a strip mall there. Well guys I've been had, conned, wool pulled over my eyes, the whole works. Mainly I've been stupid. I was browsing wechat, in the people nearby section. Which works pretty well for me. A couple of years ago I had a memorable session at the Hong Song Sauna. Last year I made the trip out there only to find it was closed and under construction. It wasn't clear if the business was gone or just being rejuvenated. There have been no reviews on the Hong Song for quite some time.
I headed out to find out for myself. Hong Song is easy to get to – take a 15 minute /38 RMB ride from the Bund, out to the Hilton Shanghai Hongqiao. As you face the Hilton, the building to the left is the Yuanyi building. There is a restaurant on the lower floor. Go in the front door and on the right is a bank of elevators with three cute girls just waiting to call an elevator for you. Just go up to the 4th floor and you are there. The remodeling has left Hong Song at the top of the heap for saunas. Everything was clean, new and impeccable.
The system is typical of the saunas – you go to the locker room to change into your gear and leave your items in a secure locker. Then they put you in a room with a TV to wait for the lineup.
And what a lineup! I was there about 9:00 pm and there were at least 75 girls in the fishbowl. The girls were first rate, ranging from 7 to 9's. The "regular" girls were 1380 and the taller "models" were 1980. A second girl adds 700. The decision was tough, so the manager suggested #30. I agreed and off we went. #30 is a 22 year old Hunan spinner. And she was beautiful!

If your taste runs to tall and often wide Vietnamese in their late twenties and thirties with adequate English skills, than Manhattan is your venue.

Although this may not be news to some of you, the group that operates Kng Ding Sauna has a new place near Pullman Hotel. I have not been there. It only has one category of girls. It appears to be the same as the X girls at Kang Ding, but 1580 only gives you 70 minutes and one pop. To go for the second shot at the goal, you are asked to tip the girl an extra 300. Apparently they also have Korean and Russian girls working the joints as well, I am not sure of their prices.

Seriously, Shanghai is more expensive than some other locales, but not by as much as you think. Really a matter of comparing apples to apples. You can get a hot girl in a luxurious sauna for $150 - this is not some street walker who uses drugs and has had multiple kids. Same thing in Bangkok might run you $120 (and Bangkok is a really tough comparison for any mongering destination). You can snag a Viet girl at a Shanghai bar for $170/ HR or $250/ nt; in Hanoi, you'd pay about the same. In HCMC, you'd pay 25% less. Steven's site has daily specials for 1,000. But still, you're not going to match some of the bargain prices in Pattaya or Peru.

I have been surfing QQ and Wechat and came across several sauna and MP chat groups. If you don't have these two apps on your phone, might be a good idea to download them, especially QQ. Communication is strictly in Chinese (they don't uderstand a lick of English) but phone translations does wonders. Here are some of the things I observed with these groups.
1. 10%-15% discount when you make reservations through the app.
