Is the sauna at 6th floor 580 Nanjing still there?
Coming back to Shanghai in a few weeks. Is the Jing'an district still locked down? The Royal Massage was my favorite place to visit, but there were other places to go. Is the Jing'an district less windy? If not, would appreciate suggestions on other places to go for massage plus services.

Wanted to thank everyone on the forum for the good advice and help.
Thought I would post a few details on my trip to Bodi in case it is of some help.
I had originally planned to visit both Bodi and 45 Mansion on this day trip to Shanghai, but only made it to Bodi.
Left my luggage at the Luggage Deposit. Incredibly cheap. Fit both of my carryons for the day for 20 rmb! Also like that they let you put it yourself into a computer controlled cabinet -- makes it feel very secure.
Took the Maglev to Longyang Road station. A Maglev Round trip + Metro Day pass runs you 85 rmb. I preferred public transport since I don't speak any mandarin and I just didn't want to explain to the taxi drivers. The closest metro to Bodi is Shanghai Children's Medical center (approx 15 min walk). I stupidly walked directly from the Maglev station which is about a 35 minute walk.
Bodi's hours are listed as "12:00 AM to 2:00 AM" - I foolishly didn't pay attention to the 2 AM, and I did not interpret 12:00 AM to be noon! In any event, I got their at 10:45 AM and had to wait till noon. For those calling the hotel and wondering why they say no sauna. The hotel itself is separate and adjacent and they have no sauna. The Bodi sauna we are looking forward is to the left and attached in the same building. This explains the previous posters confusion.
In any event I went in at noon, told the price was 980 rmb to which I said fine. There were other more expensive options listed, but I couldn't read the menu so I have no idea -- I am sure other more experienced posters can explain what those were. Usual change into robe / PJ's and escorted to a waiting room where I was given something to drink and a remote to watch TV. Waited for 30 minutes and nothing was happening, so I wandered out into the hall and immediately multiple attendants rush to me to find out what the problem is. Very little English to be had here, but at least a few people were armed with smartphones with translate features. Asked when I could get my massage. Was told not until 1 PM! Finally at 1 PM, nothing happening, so I wander out again and am told to wait another 5-10 minutes.
Finally I am taken to the back to see the lineup. At least 15 girls. Many I thought were very attractive. Based on the recent posts, my expectations were low, but I was pleasantly surprised.
I chose #628 (she spoke no English and I never got her name). She was at least an 8, and I was fortuitous is choosing someone with large tits given the nuru component.
Was led up two flights of stairs to one of the many massage rooms. All quite similar, one room with a bed and one room with a shower table. Overall was a good experience in shanghai. Judy's really reminds me of Ipanema in Singapore. Even down to the fact that it's heavily viet focused. The saunas were all nice. All different, and very different from the FKK / sauna scene in Germany that I'm used to. Red House was the 'closest' experience I had to the FKK one, but still very different. Much more like the geylang experience in Singapore IMHO.
Anyway. Had a great time ending my 2 week swing through Asia!

If Dongguan sauna is closer to your hotel than the others then 30-40 rmb is already a scam. You need to watch that they turn on the meter when you get in and that they give you a receipt (frappio) when you get out.
The last couple of trips I have noticed fake taxi drivers outside Manhattan. They threaten legit drivers who do drop offs so they go away instead of waiting for a pickup. I grabbed a cab doing a drop off once and one of the thug taxi drivers pounded his fist on the hood and glared at the driver.
What's my point? Well, don't encourage them.

It is directly the first door to the south on the corner by the China Merchants Bank near Yu Yuan Garden as they instruct you. Contact them by WeChat or phone / text as instructed on SNG. I guess I must be the only forum member in Shanghai over the holiday.
Anyway, went to 45 this afternoon. Really surprised at how many girls there, and of course almost no customers. Even better was most of the girls there were "be" cards (898). A lot of saunas are offering discounts right now, but not 45, however I wanted to be confident I'd be taken care of.
I don't normally recommend girls (tastes vary and I do believe YMMV) however B12 was quite damn good!

The National Day Week, which dovetails the Mid Autumn Festival, is like the Black Friday Event for the local mongers. While some folks do leave to go home for the holidays, a lot of joints frequented by the locals are packed because of the specials. Now the discounts might only be a rmb off, but hey, some people in the US camp overnight outside of Walmart for the "bargains". Unlike the zoo scene for the Black Friday Events, the mongers here do not come to blow (they come for blows, BB at that)

I was at the intersection of Shaanxi and. Rd. And Changping Road near where the Budha massage was. There is a massage place at the same location or a few doors down called Min Massage (in English on the sign). Is this the same place as the Budha Massage? Has anyone been there recently for massage plus services.
Here's my contribution. I was in Shanghai for the past 3 days and decided to try different saunas.
First day: Hailang (New Wave).
This sauna used to be one my favorite and was well known among foreigners, especially Japanese. For some reasons, the business is not like in the past, but after my visit during the National holiday, I still find the place well maintained. This place is one of the rare sauna where you can select the girl in a like aquarium room type; the girls do not see you, so you can choose without feeling any guilt and pressure. They have 4 levels of pricing with different quality, 880 Rmb was the cheapest and most of the girls are at 1080 RMB. I went there at around 6:30 pm, got changed and put my clothes in the locker room, took a quick shower and went up immediately. I was the only customer at that time, and did not have to wait.
There were around 20 girls in the aquarium and I got to choose a tall and skinny girl from Xian, #B86, which was a good choice.
We went to the room, chat a bit and went through the process of soapy body to body massage, cat massage, and FS. Her BJ was amazing and she did a great job around my balls and cock. FS was also good. Overall a good experience.

This one is also an old time Sauna, and one of the best in terms of service and price. But the choice of girls and look have considerably decreased due to competition.
The price is 750 RMB for 90 min and it starts at 10:30 am for those who want an early FS, closing at 1 am. For this, you get the cat massage back and front, BJ, 2 shots. Most of the girls do 69, FK. This place is quite popular due to the price, and waiting time can be long, it is best to go either early in the morning, or during lunch / dinner time.
I went there 2 days ago at around 6:30 pm. Took a shower, went to the waiting room, and was surprised to wait for only 5 min, maybe due to the National holiday where everyone is out of the city. There were around 20 girls in the room, all ranging from 5 to 7 in terms of look, and you just stand in front of them when selecting the girl. I chose one from Harbin that looked reasonably OK and we went straight to the room. It's a new one with one of the best in terms of facilities, located in Wuzhong road, in a building selling luxury cars, so most of the customers are wealthy and locals, and you have to say one of the agents name in other to get in. This is the place where you can find models and the price can be quite steep with different level of pricing: 880,1100, 1500,2200, 2900 RMB.
When I went there at around 5 pm, it was also quiet and there was no waiting time. I went straight to the selecting room, where there were at least 50 girls of various categories in the room.
I chose a girl at 1500 RMB category, she was pretty, 1 m70,25 yo nice body from Hunan, and was quite shy. She said she was on the business for only 2 days and you could tell that she was not used to it. In the room, she was not sure of what to do, so I had to guide her in the process. Update. I went during daylight and found that the Buddha place has changed names and now has the sign from Min Massage above the door. The buddha wall art has been replaced with a different piece of art. The stairs have been remodeled to give better visibility from the front counter. Service by a somewhat older and heavier girl was OK, not great. Shower, meager massage, slurpy water, cat bath with fake tongue, flip, BJ and HY ending. Damage 268.

I had the opportunity to come to Shanghai for two weeks in early July for the first time in several years. I apologize for taking so long to post my experiences but I have been pretty busy these past couple of months and lazy as well. But anyway, I decided to try out some places I've never been to before because I'm all about having new experiences. I was a little hesitant after RTFF and coming upon Changelelu's bad weather experience in March, but this hobby comes with calculated risks and as there weren't any other warning signs at the time I decided to visit the following places:
SIYUAN.
Based on Carage's very positive report in #10371, I decided to visit SiYuan. I figured out where it was located based on previous reports and was surprised by its location and the mainstreamness of the brand it is hidden underneath. I went in the early afternoon and I tried to time it so I could have the elevator to myself. However, a family rushed into the elevator at the last second and it was kind of awkward getting off on a darkened floor with a family on board. In this sense, the setup at Bodi with the side entrance is more preferable.
The greeter asked me if I was there for anyone in particular and I said no. I sent a PM to him for info and he gave me the rough location and threw in some recommendations for girls. To get there, I took Metro Line 8 to Huangxing Road station, walked east on Kongjiang Road, turned north on Shuangyang Road, and then turned west on Yanji Middle Road. You'll know it's the right road because of the CCB on the southwest corner of the intersection. On Yanji Middle Road past the CCB, there will be two saunas. It's the door to the right.
Going inside and up the staircase to the lobby, the lobby people asked if I had an appointment as they took my shoes. I said no and they sent me up another flight to the changing room. The changing room and the shower room facilities were extremely run down so I decided to skip the shower and change into the sauna PJs and headed off into a hallway to the rest of the facility. There was no one there to lead me as I wandered around until after a second pass, a girl sitting a table asked me what I wanted. I asked her what they had and she said 498 RMB for 60 minutes of FS without soapy, 598 RMB for 90 minutes with soapy, and 850 RMB for red rope. I asked for red rope service and she said I would have to wait as the red rope room was currently occupied. I then asked about the 90 minute soapy and she said the soapy rooms were occupied as well and that I should just go do the regular service as rooms for those were readily available. I asked how long the wait would be for the red rope and the soapy and she said that each would be over half an hour and that I really should get the regular room. I told her I was going to wait for the 90 minute soapy and so she led me to a typical waiting room with the lounge chairs and television and left me there. There was no remote control for the TV, the air conditioning wasn't working and the room was stuffy and sweltering reeking of cigarettes so after ten minutes or so I got fed up and went to go find the lady to see if they could turn on the air conditioning in the room.
The lady apologized profusely for she had no way to change the temperature and asked if I would like to go for regular service instead of waiting and I said no so she led me to the regular massage area and told me to wait there. It wasn't much better there except for one small area which had a working vent and was slightly more tolerable. The room clearly had seen better days as the wallpaper was peeling, the chairs were sagging, and light fixtures were broken.
After another 30 minutes of waiting, I went to go find the lady again to see what was going on and she said that I would have to wait a bit longer but I could go for regular service now if I wanted to. I decided to continue to wait and after another hour, she came back to fetch me and led me to a room with a large soapy area, larger than all the more expensive places. However, repeating the theme of the rest of the place, the room was in pretty awful condition with both the regular bed and soapy bed being concave in the middle and discolored, stuff growing on the walls, and the water fixture constantly running.
The woman left me there and shortly returned with a lineup of almost two dozen girls, all of which were between a 3 and a 6 in looks. Definitely a drop in quality in looks from the more expensive places, which should be expected. I selected one of the ones I thought was better looking and after the other girls had left the room, she undressed me and herself and then led me to the soapy room to give me a cleaning. After I got cleaned, she sprayed down the massive queen sized soapy bed and had me lie down in the middle. Unlike the other places that would place a sheet of plastic on top of the bed for hygienic purposes, there were no sheets of plastic to be had here. After lying in the puddle in the middle of the bed, the girl proceeded to give me the most amazing soapy I ever had in China for the next hour going into multiple positions that were completely new to me. In the middle of it, I joked with her that her future husband was going to be super lucky and she groaned and said that there was no way that she would ever work so hard again. After about an hour, we moved to the regular room where she gave me a catbath, AR, BBBJ, and then on came the rubber and progressed through several positions before I popped. We lay next to each other afterwards and chatted for a bit as I rubbed her back before time was up.
While the place was super rundown and the girls were not very attractive, especially compared to the more well reviewed places on this forum, if you're a fan of soapy massage and don't mind looks over service as much, this place is tough to beat in the soapy game and to me represents a super value. One thing though, this place is even more local than many others reviewed so it might help if you learn some Mandarin before going.

Intrigued by the dance halls in Suzhou, I wanted to see if there were similar venues in Shanghai and discovered that there were after RTFF. I decided to visit one in Minhang District based on Arizona123's post in #10054 and ShanghaiNong's post in #9998. I took Metro Line 9 to Zhongchun Road station. I walked east on Husong Highway and turned south on Zhongchun Road. I walked for awhile on Zhongchun Road before going east on Lianming Road. You'll know its Lianming Road because of the giant Porsche facility on the southeast corner. After walking for awhile on Lianming Road, you'll see a shopping center on the north side with an adjacent parking lot on the left side of the shopping center. In the middle of the parking lot side of the building, you'll see a staircase with two giant yellow stars on top. This is the staircase to go up into the dance hall. It's about a 20-30 minute walk from the subway station so you may want to take a taxi instead. After paying 20 RMB at the ticket booth to the left of the staircase, I walked upstairs and dropped off my bag at the counter directly straight in front from the entrance. I also exchanged 120 RMB for 6 cards that you give to the girls for each song they hang out with you instead of cash like you would in Suzhou.
This place is pretty massive, somewhere between Mei Mei and Guanqianda / Jingqiwangzuo of Suzhou in size. For a weekday afternoon, this place was completely packed with both guys and girls. There were dozens upon dozens of girls of all shapes and sizes and of all different age groups. Most of the girls were below a 5 in looks and there roamed about the seated men several older creatures who were begging for a dance. There were maybe a handful of girls that I would rank a 6 or even a 7 and most of the time they were in the company of other guys there. Girls were also constantly coming and going from the dance hall so if you didn't like what you saw, an hour later the lineup could be completely different.
If you're too lazy to look up the other dance hall posts, the way these places work is based on the song tempo and the lighting as the lights alternate between on and off with each song. When the lights are on, the songs are generally faster in tempo and the dance floor is relatively empty as serious dancers take the stage to dance. Towards the end of the faster tempo songs, girls start lining up along the length of the dance floor and guys will walk up and down the line checking girls out to select a girl that they want to dance with and move onto the dance floor. As the faster tempo song switches to a slower tempo song, the lights fade to dark, this dance hall being the darkest one I've been in, and as you dance, you can chat with the girl and feel her up if she so permits. As the song ends, you can pay her with a card and say goodbye or prolong your time with her by finding an area to sit with her for the subsequent faster tempo lights on song as you seek to build rapport with her hoping for more later on.
I sat around by the main entrance for the first couple of songs just observing and also because only really ugly girls were available before a cuter one finally came in from outside during one of the faster songs. I quickly grabbed her hand towards the end of a faster song and led her towards the dance floor. I chatted with her as my hands roamed around her butt but she didn't really allow me to roam anywhere else. After the slow song was over, she asked if I would like to sit so we sat down at a table next to the dance floor and chatted a bit more but the conversation was dull so I gave her two cards and let her go when the song came to an end. A couple more songs passed before another cutie came in from outside. This one's personality was a lot more bubbly than the other one and she also allowed more roaming. I hung out with her alternating between the dance floor and the table area until all my cards were used up and even afterwards she stayed with me for several songs without charging before I had to go. We exchanged WeChat info and I promised to see her next time I was in town. She said that she alternates between several dance halls in the city and that there were better ones closer to the heart of the city and that she would take me to go check out one of those next time I was there.
I wouldn't recommend this place if you're on a short trip but if you're in Shanghai for a longer stay and want to try something lighthearted and different and don't mind traveling a bit, you can go check it out. I think I would actually rather go to one of these places than the hostess KTVs as I found these girls to be a bit more entertaining.

This one is also an old time Sauna, and one of the best in terms of service and price. But the choice of girls and look have considerably decreased due to competition.
The price is 750 RMB for 90 min and it starts at 10:30 am for those who want an early FS, closing at 1 am. For this, you get the cat massage back and front, BJ, 2 shots. Most of the girls do 69, FK. This place is quite popular due to the price, and waiting time can be long, it is best to go either early in the morning, or during lunch / dinner time.
I went there 2 days ago at around 6:30 pm. Took a shower, went to the waiting room, and was surprised to wait for only 5 min, maybe due to the National holiday where everyone is out of the city. I wrote previously about lousy experience in storefront window places. I said I would not do those places again. So I did not listen to myself and got screwed more ways than one.
I was meeting friends early this evening for dinner near Line 4 Linping Road station. I saw this new (and clean) "foot massage" place with no foot massage couch and a couple of girls in tight dresses sitting on a sofa. The place was on Gongpin Road, heading South towards Zhōujiāzuǐ Road. It was the last one on the left (east) just before Zhōujiāzuǐ Road.
That one girl there looked like a proper OL or your neighborhood MILF. Anyway I finished dinner with my friends. I took some money out of the ATM for gifts for a birthday party I would go to tomorrow. I decided to check the foot massage place out.
I asked that woman if there was FS and she said yes. For 200 rmbs. I thought what the hell. She led me to a room, had me lie down without taking my clothes off. She did not take all or most of the money because then I could not pay or would have noticed when too many bills were missing.
I always think it is much better to go to a sauna where you leave your valuables in the lockers. This is the first time I had money stolen from me in a joint but I doubt that thieving woman invented this pick pocket trick herself. So be careful if someone try that routine on you. I have purposely not do pick up from bars to avoid the risk of having things or money stolen from my place.

The last couple of trips I have noticed fake taxi drivers outside Manhattan. They threaten legit drivers who do drop offs so they go away instead of waiting for a pickup. I grabbed a cab doing a drop off once and one of the thug taxi drivers pounded his fist on the hood and glared at the driver.
What's my point? Well, don't encourage them.There is another point regarding to that "faked taxi drivers" in front of Manhattan. And by the way also some of this "black taxis" waiting in front of Judy's now. The moment where you need to be careful and prepared will be, when you come out of the bar with one of the Vietnamese cuties and she suddenly will try to push you in that "illegal taxis". My last pickup there really tried it very hard to bring me in this taxi. This guys have a interesting way to get supported by the girls. Many of this girls use that illegal taxis for come home or even call them to go there. And the guys provide this rides for a low price or even for free, so that in return many of this girls try to "repay" that favor by support them to get some more clients to rip off. So better be prepared to avoid ending up in the taxi before you got clear what happened, especially if you had some beer already in the bar.

And even this guys rip you off, you most probably will not get bankrupt by that mostly. From my view it's not a "big disaster" if you finally need to pay 200 (that's what they mostly try to get as far as I know instead of 20 RMB a taxi for example would charge). But first for most of the guests in Judy's or Manhattan 200 RMB will not really be a big problem and second compared with the taxi fare in Germany, they will finally not even charge more than you would have to pay in Germany for a similar distance. So just take it easy and not worry too much, if you accidentally "tap into that trap". At least we not talk about a rip off like in an illegal massage parlor or Black KTV, where you mostly will loose at least 5 to 10.000 RMB.

In some of the sleazier parts of KL there used to be massage joints where you would put clothes in a drawer under the bed. Of course someone was on the other side of the drawer and after your massage, your wallet would defintely be lighter.

I'm almost sorry but I have to say it. This is why I complain about the, "Not the best advice," coming from Shanghai Guide. He has a separate agenda because of his commercial web site. If you think they are not aggressive thugs try refusing to pay their 10 times inflated charges. I decided to do like an Alien and started smashing my way out from inside. When he saw how his car door was buckling out he changed his mind and unlocked it. Just a quick update for the Spring Massage. Obviously there are different options available depending on the shop. I have visitied the outlet close to Linping Road few times. They offer an 398 RMB maasage which would include the 20 minutes back massage for the beginning and then girls stripping completly, body to body massage (back & front), fake tongue, BBBJ and HJ. All without any further tips required. This week I tried the shop at Madang Road. Here you get the previously described massage for 278 RMB. You still have to buy the oil and tip the girl. I think overall the offer at Linping Road is better.

They are not just there as a convenience for guys who can afford to pay 2 to 10 times the normal rate. The thugs use threats and menacing behavior to intimidate the real taxi drivers so they don't stay to pick up. That takes the normal service away from everyone.

Went to Sacrosa the 4th time, and again had a real goof time. Was there around the office closing time, so the place was a little packed. Thanks.If you are an hour from shanghai, that could be a lot longer with Shanghai traffic. I don't know if that is reasonable. If someone knows if there is a train stop it might be possible but for a newbie the trains (vs the subways) can be a little challenging.

For the guys who discover the potential of wechat now, I would recommend to keep some points in mind to avoid getting disappointed or even in serious trouble:
1) Unfortunately the pimps who spam around elsewhere also have been the first ones who discover the potential of wechat for their business, so better keep in mind, that often the "sexy girl" you chat with actually has a 3rd leg and the target to send one of his girls to you.
2) On wechat many of the working girls play the same "policy" than they do with their ads. So mostly the pictures you will see on their profile are erotic models from Japan or Korea, but not often really the girl. But if you are lucky and not in touch with a pimp, than at least you have a good chance, that she will send a real picture in the chat.
3) But for that better consider, that there is NO Chinese girl which not use MeiTu and several other apps to "pimp up" their pictures in seconds. That means: smooth skin, big eyes, slik face, slim nose, longer legs, slim waist is done in 5 seconds, so mostly the girl finally will look some years older and not so "well shaped" than on her pictures.
4) The most important point is, that also the "Scam Business" already found this way of "marketing", so be careful if a girl tell you, she work in a massage, bar or KTV, can not go out this moment, but not busy there and if you like, you could come over to her (and probably have some fun). That could end up in one of this "black massage or KTV shops" where they rip you off for at least 5 to 10.000 with blackmailing, beat guys off and so on. If she not have any special interest on you, she will meet you for a coffee, take the Phone and leave after 15 minutes and will probably not talk with you any more before Apple release the next model So better not play that game, if you are one of the guys who expect to get a value for his investment.

Many of the "obvious" ones are actually pimps who will send you a girl who looks nothing like the doctored photos that you see on WC. Set a profile picture that obviously shows you're a foreigner and you'll probably get a lot of requests from them. After a bit, you'll be able to identify those just by the profile, photos, and language used. A better strategy, I think, is sending messages to more normal looking girls nearby. You never know what you can drum up that way.

For those that indulge in saunas, multiple establishments are closed for business in Minhang and Changning districts. If you are already in some of their QQ or Wechat groups, you will find them saying they're closed for renovations or some of them straight out say it's too windy out there and will reopen when the weather is better. Head over to Hongkou if you really need a relief.

I'm new to the forum but not to the Shanghai / Suzhou regions of China. I spend about 4 months per year on an off in the area for business.
I noticed elsewhere in this thread that others made requests for recommendations. I hope this is the appropriate place for me to request the same.
A couple months ago I finally began putting more effort into hooking up while in town. I've been to Judy's and spent time with a couple of the women there. I agree it is a nice hotel Great location. Great breakfast. Straight shoot from Pudong Airport on Line 2 (2 short blocks to and from the station, Nanjing Road East) . 10 minutes walk to the Bund where there are bars that are hopping. Good restaurants and people gazing in the mall around. Not too too pricey.
But it is just a nice place to stay. DO NOT ENGAGE WITH ANY TOUTS OR GIRLS ON THE STREET OUTSIDE, EVER. Naughty places around the area also overpriced. It is a nice hotel only. Stay there and play elsewhere. I read that they are not too girls friendly either, and not very receptive to obvious working girls going to your room, which is understandable given the level of scams directed towards tourist around the area.
The place is near 2 major subway connection hubs (Nanjing Rd East and People's Square and bus lies that can get you everywhere without needing to deal with taxi.

I only cross Nanjing road from the metro to Tianjin Road where I stay. Otherwise I use a parallel road if I'm going to the Apple Store to the Irish bar (I sit near the door btw)near peoples square. China is crowded enough without going to the shopping areas. YuYuan Garden is another place I avoid. Some guy is always nearby blowing huge clouds of smoke in your face. But I second Beijing4987, having your hotel on Nanjing East Road in the middle of the tourist scam zone is not something I would recommend especially to monger.
If you really need to be close to people square, Jing'an temple is a much better option (lots of choice with Hilton, Puli, Swiss Hotel or Equatorial for a lower budget or the really mega cheap hotels like Hanting / Greentree for those with no budget).
The area is much more friendly although mongering in jing'an is a bit limited since the begining of the year but you are closer to changning district with lots of options.
On another topic, glad the places I posted below were helpful for some of you guys.
Regarding the weather forecast a quick update:
Recent issues in Minhang district are still hurting the business. Lots of places remain shut down.
The district people changes have the same effects which we experienced Q1 2016. Some places take the risk of opening but they are very few and its quite risky...
For Changning it seems the situation is much better. There were some Beijing high level govs staying on Hongqiao road with maximum police security and high pressure on the entertainment business (requirement to close lights, risks of raids, order to shut down for several hours and so on).
This seems pretty settled now that the officials are back to Beijing. Lights are back on.
Sky is not 100% blue though as MPs are required to disable showers. The policy is not followed by everyone and they usually set the shower back in the room for old customers and bring unknown chinese customers to an outside room shower.
So stay away from Minhang and enjoy Changning again with minimum caution!

CSELet me start by saying I have not been to SH in one year. A lot happens there in a year.
Depends on what kind of scam you are talking about. Never follow a tout to a place. (tout is someone that seems to want to help you).
Use this forum and determine good places. If you keep your wits about you, you will be ok. You don't need a ton of street smarts, just be careful.
As far as Pudong, what I found was high tips for limited service seemed ridiculously high compared to Puxi. I had business in both areas. I could get a feel, kiss tittys, FIV sometimes and get a HJ for a 100-200 rmb tip in Puxi. They wanted 700 RMB in some places in pudong! (I also consider this a scam when you are on your back and she's holding your member and won't budge off 700 rmb. I actually walked out once without an he or a tip from a place like that.) Of course this was in a large Xpat community so the girls were spoiled. There is a Sha na na club near the pudong Marriot East that treated me right. The girl was hot, young a a spinner- just my type and tips were reasonable. There were places to the left of it (I believe 2-3 of them) that were complete ripoffs. SHa nana club looked expensive from the outside but I found a reasonable rub and tug there.
you can always go dumpster diving in places that will give you a massage for 80 and god knows what tip for something. I found the quality of the girls low and cleanliness gross. some guys like that kind of adventure, but it's not for me. Same with the BBSs
The best way to determine if a place has promise is how they dress. The more sexy the girls are dressed, the more chances of something good happening. The more uniform style with pants and smock, the less chance. This is not to say it won't happen there, it just has less chance. I learned enough Chinese in my travels that even in those places I could eventually come up with a relationship for a HJ. It typically wasn't worth it as the girls feared for their job. At best you got a quick unfullfilling HJ with no touching.
I actually offered a girl in one of these legit places 1000 RMB for a HJ. It was more to see if she would do it. She quickly said no. I told her in Chinese that for 1000, I would do it. She laughed out loud.

As SamCan posted there are 2 levels of scams:
1/ Giving you service for a higher price.
This one is just a matter of showing you know your game. Always make sure of the price BEFORE you get serviced and negotiate a fair price else you may end up being overcharged (mainly toursit or expat areas).
2/ The real scams.
There are different versions of these scams but as posted here in other posts and mainly in tourist areas like nanjing east road by the sofitel you get approached for "lady massage".
If you follow the tout you'll be taken to a KTV room or massage room where a girl will quickly service you.
From there either while you are without cloth or after you dressed up and are about to leave (reports vary) you will be showed a 10 000 RMB+ bill for the room and service fees as you got an illegal service and it has heavy fees for them to protect you. To influence your decision to pay 3 to 5 guys, some tall and heavy weights, will join you and make it so you cannot leave without paying.
Sometimes they even record the scene on camera. I think some guy posted he called the police on the touts to get his money back and the record of him getting a BJ was given to the police ending up with him being kicked out of the country (surprising as it should also be an issue for the place but that was the report).
In the end there aren't so many places that will scam you if you stay away from the tourist / expat areas. Becoming regular to a MP where you had good experience is also the best way to remove the risk of being scammed and promoting better service from the girls whom will know you are a regular and need to be treated with care.
I have tried a few of the SNG on the last few trips. This is a very good resource and pictures are accurate. Here is a summary of the gals:

There is a educational company on the 4th floor so I rode up the elevator with a family of 3.
Locker room, shower, paper shorts, cloth top, private TV room then shortly thereafter called to see lineup of 12. Not high end sauna quality but quite acceptable. At Jinshan Road Station on Line 9 & 12, if you use exit 4, now you will be on Damuqiao Road, turn right. Yixueyuan Road and Qingzhen Road meet Damuqiao Road at the next intersection. Turn right on Qingzhen Road and there are numerous places on this long block of Qingzhen Road.
During these past two weeks I have visited two places. I went into a place down toward the west end with King in its name, there is also one on the west end with King in the name, I am not sure if they are related. I would worry less about these and just look for the MPs that have the "look" . You will develop MP radar pretty quickly if you hit a couple of the right places. The boards here tend to list a few from time to time. In my experience, 70% plus give a happy ending in Shanghai. (its probably higher).

2. I started seeing her 3-4 times a week on my visits every other month "for free". It turns out she was a virgin and had never crossed the line. We went out to dinners. I bought her gifts and she moved into my hotel for the weeks I was in town. We texted and Wechatted when I was in the USA. I fell for her, We finally made love, popped the cherry and it got even better. She was definitely a virgin in the beginning but she learned well and quickly. Teaching a virgin 20 years younger than me was a wonderful time.
3. She figured out that I was not leaving my wife and the game changed. Her girlfriends at the MP had taught her how to get more money from me. You can think the same of me because I was an idiot. I do know, however, there are other guys out there like me as they have posted before. The details are different but the story is the same.
If, however, you find yourself saying "Yea, but my girl is different. " It's probably too late and you should run for the door.

During a recent visit to Shanghai, I was staying at Zhangjiang Yitel Hotel on Cailun Road, Pudong, not far from the Pudong airport. Adjoining the hotel was a Massage Parlour. While some places claim you have a discounted price when you make an appointment with the managers ahead of time (or be let in in the first place), the prices I got charged upon showing up unannounced were the same, and I never had problem being received in either of the two places.

They are in PuXi (Pu West), the western part of Shanghai (and not PuDong, Pu East). They are at least 20 kilometres from RenMin Square。 If you don't have excellent command of Mandarin (putonghua) forget it. There is no need for Shanghai hua (Shanghai dialect) because most, perhaps all, of the "little misses" (xiao jie) are fresh off the farm, or once were "fresh off the farm"!

Come to think of it this could have been a lot worse, it's a small step from petty theft to rushing in with three guys holding you down while being buck naked and take all your stuff. So lesson learned but I don't know what advice to give you guys on where to put your clothes, keep them near you or away from the girl, either way they can take your stuff it seems.

Great review man! Sorry that happened to you. I always take my pants and put them where I can see them. Never behind me or in a locker if I am in that type of situation. If at a spa type place I bring my wallet with me even if its frowned on. As soon as I felt the woman was holding me down I would have realized what she is doing. You got off easy. That's not much money stolen. In that situation there is nothing you can do and you would basically just put the spotlight on yourself. One suggestion is if you can't speak Chinese. Then use your hands to show her what you want, what you expect and what you won't do. You instinctively felt taking off your pants was a bad idea. I would have refused to take my pants all the way off. If I already gave the money and I sensed an issues. I would have let her keep the 100 RMB and walked. There are no refunds in China. I just got my ticket for China this month. I have my routine which I know where to go stay ext. I will be in Shen Zhen but will try to a trip again to Shanghai. We need a monger guide for Shanghai because that city is just so big and has so many opportunities to monger.

If you are traveling to Shanghai via transit to another country you need a visitor visa. When you get out of the airplane, go to immigration. Make sure you stand on the far right lane that says transit. I stood in the foreingner lane for about 30 min, then I was asked to stand in the transit visa lane for another 20 min. Very irritating after a 12 hour flight. Make sure you have the address to the hotel and itinerary for your connecting flight. This will make the process a little faster. Also, don't fly China eastern if you don't have to. That plane must of been from the 80's (no tv, usb out let, bathrooms looked like a public street toilets), good thing I had an I pad and computer. I was able to binge watch Westworld. Seriously, that had to be the worse airplane I have ever ridden on.
I decided to use one of the guys that came up to me at the airport to give me a ride. It costed 250 rmb, usually I wouldn't do this but they would except credit card, I was planning to take the Maglev to Longyang station and from there a taxi to my hotel. I was staying at the Ritz. But I was so tired tired from the flight, I just wanted to get from a to be without thinking and the guy helped me with exactly that.
Got to the Ritz, Very satisfied with the PortmanRitz, saw a few hot girls in the lobby. Trip was looking up. Hong Kong / Macau (Price is steep but a lot of variety).
Medelin Colombia (Price and big asses).
Thailand (party atmosphere).
Philippines (party atmosphere).
Indonesia Jakarta and Bali (pricing decent, but traffic is a mess in Jakarta).
Tokyo (I like this one spot called morenjin. Big tit Japanese girls.).
Shanghai. (little on the pricer side).
Korea (had a hard time finding a lot of places).
Next destinations I would like to try.
Germany, Malaysia and Brazil.
Anyway, lmk if you have any Sauana recommendations. I'll try and hit one up this afternoon.

Well I was wondering how and if I should respond and explain myself, it has not much to do with mongering and it requires me to give details about my personal life which I try to give out as least as possible but since you guys asked:
For me it's a couple of things. First it's what Beijing4987 says: It holds an allure for me. To go to an area I've never been before not knowing what to expect not even knowing if I will have any sex and which quality of girls will be there. I remember my first time in Equador on LA18. So there are plenty of destinations where I don't monger or have freebees and this is where I try to safe money so I can spend it in places where I do monger, Also trying to safe some for my triple yearly BKK trips and go all out. Through trial and error I've now found places in BKK I really enjoy and I'm kind of guaranteed to get satisfactory service. These places are still not on the high end of the spectrum but a big step up from the streetwalkers and are well know in the BKK fora. But honestly I don't monger that much (usually only on those BKK trips) the rest are my freebees all over Asia like in Japan, Taiwan and of course China. I never write about them cause it's not considered mongering, and it quickly can turn to boasting but being crew myself I can get into places that others can not and I mean crew rooms in hotels where I am able to meet other Airline girls (sadly this has gone downhill a bit since more hotels offer free wifi now, but a crew room used to be the only place where they had a couple of pc's with free internet and therefore lots of (asian) crew would hang out there) so I'm dating a few airline girls or friends of some of the local crew my airline employs etc. These girls understand the life we lead and are a bit more openminded. Still they want to be wined and dined just like other girls and it can get expensive, especially if they are crew and on a budget too (since asian airlines give a lot less in layover allowences).
Of course an option would be to not be married anymore and believe me I have been thinking about it in the past but decided against it and therefore accepted that this is how it is.
So basically that's my two cents, like I said before I don't like getting scammed but thank god it rarely happens and I have to make do with the limited budget I can spend on our mutual hobby.

ALC's wife will surely notice this withdrawal (so he can make a deposit) from the account. But even 7998 rmb might be cheaper than some upscale clubs in NYC London and Europe. Until I won the Powerball, I have to stay away from those playgrounds of the rich. Maybe the increasing prices had not hit the pick up bar as hard. Overall Shanghai is still a very good mongering city, and personally, I thank my company for extending my "hardship" (and I need to stay hard) tour here for 2 more years.

While I agree that Judy's seems to have a lower level of girl (slightly). I prefered it. The atmosphere seems more fun like a Bar should and the girls tend to be less overtly business. A lot of the girls at Judy's are not Pros per se. They come from viet nam and get away from family to raise money. They then go back to being good girls at home. Some of this younger talent is less jaded and usually less businesslike in the room. At least that has been my experience.

Anyone with a passport can get a SIM card. No need to have a Chinese ID. But you do have to go to a phone company store.

What do you mean by 90 minutes buffet deal? I had run into a few promotional scams recently. One place was inside a low rent hotel at 1118 Xuetu Road. They claimed they had a promotion and the lowest price tier was 600, I asked how many do they have at that price, they said 15. When I went, there were none available at that price. The manager said only 3 were at that price and they all had clients. (Those sham promotions are quite common. Rarely you get a honest place that was true to the words) They did have some pretty ones, but they were 1200 to 1600 and maybe even higher. They then said if I picked one from the higher price category, they would gave me an extra girl free for 20 minutes. I took the bait with a pretty one. But she was such a cold fish (fake moans yes) with so many restrictions (no touching down south, no dining, etc) that I lost all interest. I asked when would the next girl come and join us, she called out and the front desk said the freebie girl was occupied, and there was a long wait list and she would not be available for at least another 90 minutes. I said but my time would be over by then, and they said well, she was busy and there was a queue. I left after getting screwed only in the pocket.
One promotion I had seen from a couple of different saunas might be similar to what you said. They were grand opening specials: for 1000 rmb, you were supposed to get 3 girls who would come, one after the other, each for 30 minutes. I do not know if you are talking about the same type of "deal". I also do not know if they were real. They are all on SNG. I got this idea from Beverly. I contacted her and asked if she had any ideas on how we could get together. I can't bring WGs to my place. She told me to just pick a location convenient for me and that she'd find and also book a nearby cheap hotel (100 RMB) for short-time. So, I'd just show up and have sexy time and then I just leave. The place I talked about earlier with the buffet style thing hasn't advertised that service for a couple of days now. I'm guessing it has something to do with the reported raids going on in Minhang district. Minhang is well known as the sauna fields of Shanghai, but maybe recently things have been getting tougher for those businesses. I added a bunch of sauna managers to WeChat before I left for China, and most of them moved their operations to other districts like Changnin, Hongkou and Xuhui.
Anyways, one of the places I went to was a sauna at the 3rd floor of Hai You Hotel (28023;21451;37202;24215 at Xietu Rd, No 1118 (26012;22303;36335;1118号. You can kinda get close to it by using the line 12 or line 9 subway. Prices range from I believe 700 and up. When I went there, they had none of the lower cost ladies and everything was "Q" and up. Q = 800 or so? S = 1400 and X = ? Anyways I knew who I wanted to get so I didn't ask for prices too much, but prepare to pay a lot since demand outstrips supply at the moment with Minhang shut down.
The lineup at 4 pm had about 20 girls with 4 dudes picking with me. I'd say about 6 are worth doing based on my own tastes. I had to wait 40 minutes for a room to open up because they were so busy. I picked an S, because she was the only one who did the special services that I requested. So 1400 was the cost. Pretty standard "wet massage" service besides the specialty I requested. The place is kind of cramped. Honestly I'm not going to recommend it because there are many other choices. But if you're close by and don't mind spending money, then go for it. The location will be convenient for a lot of people since it's close to downtown.
By the way, I'm thinking this place is off limits to white / foreign guys, you can take your chances but be prepared to be rejected. I'm ethnic Chinese so no issues for me. If you get there, ask for Luo Bo (33821;21340 translates to "radish".
I just realized that the spot I posted is the same as NorthSouth's place a couple of posts below. One thing that I'd like to mention is that if you want very convenient access to a sauna, consider booking that hotel The rooms are pretty cheap, I think the rates max out at like 300 rmb per night, which is weird considering how expensive the sauna above is.

That place had some decent looking women but I will not go there again, ever. The managers were dishonest. None of what they advertised (buffet sex, low promotional prices) or promised (a free girl threw in for the higher price tier girls) was true. I hate dishonesty. The girl I had just gave a perfunctory session and LOTS of restrictions.
The cheap price was rarely (if ever) available. T , the next level up is 898, S is, I think, 1098 and Q 1298 and then W is 1498, or something like that. Practically you are looking at 898 and up. Some S and the Q and W are as pretty as those in Bodi, but I can go to Bodi for 990.

So this is not new information but I thought I'd share my perspective on 2 things.
First the hotel room escort service business cards that get shoved under your door. I went to Bar Rouge tonight for New Years Eve. Waste of time. They let so many people in it was wall to wall people inside bar and balcony. No possible way to move around or see what available. Blue Sky is a typical Chinese drinking Girl Bar. There used to be a few in the little alley at the other end of the same road that Manhattan is one too. Same type of bar as the ones across from the Hilton just a few blocks south of there.
