The high price you see now is a result of supply being choked. The reduction of supply affects prices of other countries too. Chinese are not all rich. That is why many Chinese go to other SEA countries. This increases demand in other countries and causes the price to go up. It is very obvious if you go to KTVs in Vietnam. We got stiffed in Beijing by the summit and Maggie's being closed and then had a super cost effective $175 a person in Taipei so we averaged about $250 a night each which was under budget on balance. As I wrote in my post, my Manhattans info came from NLO's site. I only have reliable intel on Rain. She was arrested, that's for sure, along with at least 3 of her girls. I was only wondering if it was a coincidence that these busts were occurring on the same days, or if a large scale sweep was occurring.

You will likely not be able to book at ST hotel, because hotels need to register their guests with the police, and foreigners are extra effort. You'll likely find that ST hotels will claim they are not legally allowed to register foreigners (even if this is not true, they don't want the hassle given the high turn over of customers). You would need to find a Chinese girl or friend to book it for you. In your situation, going to a spa is probably your best bet. Spring Massage is a chain (which you can read about more on this forum) and almost all of the shops will have a 390 RMB oil massage option, and the girl will upsell, quite often to include FS. Note: Google is blocked by the Great Firewall of China. You will need a good VPN to access google maps, etc.

DoIt.Great info and will see what I can do about planting myself somewhere near the action. I don't have high hopes but I would like to give myself the option of going for it. My trip includes 10 days in Thailand (before Shanghai) so I will not be in "horn dog mode" when I get there but still these China Dolls will be on my mind. (Apologies for the nearly OOT question).I use ExpressVPN. It is a paid service but I think you can buy just one month then cancel. With it, you can install on a computer and also a smartphone with one subscription.
I have not had good luck finding other good maps in English. Google is best. Gaode maps is good if you can read Chinese (I can't). Download the Google translate app and the Chinese language pack.

I use NordVPN and it works great. I'm in China now and have had no problems connecting to Google or in using Gmail. It is only $3 per month and covers up to 5 devices.
It is a good idea to use at home as well any time you are on Wi-Fi.

To answer your questions: I've been told countless times by every provider to make contact on the day and then again when an hour or so from arriving. Only once I was asked for a fifty percent deposit for an advanced day and time booking. Needless to say I didn't bother.

Tp.The HIlton Shanghai is quite a distance from M or J'S. I would switch to the portman if you can. It's only a one block walk from the bars. The girls speak english and your price range works. There are many taxi's outside M and J's as the night goes on but they are black cabs (black market) and you will pay a higher price. I can't speak to the pullman. Being Indian is a hit against you. Many of the girls have had bad experiences with your brothers from India. I have an indian friend with me one night and he got turned down quite a bit. My advice is be nice to them when talking and if they are not giving you a good vibe, move on. Don't let it get to you. One of the first guys i spoke to when i went to M's in the beginning was Indian and he did ok.
Even with that challenge, you will find a girl in the price range listed

Was in Shanghai a few weeks ago, just now getting around to posting something.
I usually go to J's, but I ended up staying in the small hotel right next to M's and ended up hanging out a bit there. On one night, there was this beautiful Chinese gal out front smoking so I decided to try to chat her up. She was with his "boyfriend" and a group of their friends. They use M's as a kinda swingers club, and swap out mistresses and add a Viet for group play. They come about twice or three times a month, whenever the guys are free to play with their mistresses. She was super hot, an ex car model who has had many trips to Korea for enhancement. She was a 10 for sure, and she told me she was well kept in an apartment with a new BMW and expense account. Long time lurker but decided to register and share my experience in case it helps anyone. I was in Shanghai for the past few weeks and just got back. I will probably not be visiting Shanghai again until next year at least.
Before I dive into the experience, here are a few details about me. My extent of Chinese speaking abilities can be succinctly summarized as "Ni Hao" and google translate. I am a 2nd generation American Indian but for their purposes, I look like my 1.2 Billion brothers and sisters. Bias cannot be discounted even if I think and sound like an American, I look like an Indian. I felt the need to emphasize on this point based on SamCan's honest and direct input to a post below. I tend to agree with his assessment. Its unfortunate but indeed the sad truth. I can vouch for it based on many many no go situations in the US over the years.
Based on recommendations in this forum, I visited the Spring Massage on Madang road as well as the one on Wanping Rd on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week respectively. Both days, I got there after 9 PM. The Madang Rd Spring Massage place had Spring Massage prominently displayed on the building. However, when I walked in, there was this cute girl behind the counter and she kept insisting that they are no longer "tied" with Spring Massage and they only provide Chinese Massage. Despite my best efforts, that one was a complete no go and I decided to walk away as they were in no mood to discuss further.
Wanping Rd was an interesting experience. I walked in there and based on the many posts, it had all the "signs" of the typical massage place that we mongerers will be looking for. However, the guy I talked to could converse in broken English and refused that a 396 massage existed. I went as far as to tell him that my friend recommended this place, that this was my last day in Shanghai and I had a good bit of money to spend. Once that was a no go, I decided to get the 298 massage hoping that the masseuse will offer services that this guy refuses to acknowledge. I was walked to a room in the back and asked to change into some flimsy shorts. Note: The shower was in the room. The masseuse then walked in. (I found out later that she was #23). She asked me to lie face down and weirdly enough started scratching my head. This went on for a good 15 minutes and all this while, I was thinking be patient, anytime now. The next thing you know, she climbs on my back and the next 55 minutes was probably one of the best ever massages that I have ever experienced. She walked on my back, used toes to apply pressure in the right points, stretched my neck, stretched my spine and I was literally in heaven. I had not realized until then how hectic my trip had been and this massage was just what I needed (not wanted). The back walking was followed by assisted contortions and positions that I had never imagined were possible. There were all kinds of popping and clicking sounds from my bones. Then we sat face to face and she proceeded to spread my thighs out. I could have sworn that she intentionally forced the shorts to rip with her thumbs but I am not sure. Junior popped out, she looked at it, smiled, said sorry and covered him with a towel. Some more stretching, clicking, popping. Then she got down, said "Massage done. You too heavy, see sweat and showed the sweat on her brow", said thank you and walked out. I changed and walked out. I explicitly asked the guy again why no happy ending was offered and he just kept saying no. Anyway, at that point, I paid my dues, offered a tip for the masseuse but they refused and then I walked out.
My overall thoughts. " Fuck you junior, not everything is about you. Sometimes, even a massage can be orgasmic".

Thanks to the help of fellow mongers in Shanghai had a great time there. Only stayed for 3-4 days but was indeed a memorable trip although very expensive.
First night my fellow colleagues took me to a KTV for breaking my virginity of the same. Great ambiance Goodwin but could not be a full party to it because cannot speak any chinese. Was told there are wild games that you can play there but somehow could not happen that night due to some issues with police checking. Ended up taking 2 girls to my room for a great great night. Both the girls were willing to stay back until afternoon but had meetings and kicked them out at 6 after having a good morning session.
Next a couple of nights later ended up at Judy. Went to Manhattan first but looked slow and ended up at Judy. Was fairly early around 9. 15 but quite a few ladies already in. Mostly a good 6-7 scale and some a good 8-9. Standard going rate is 1500 and 3000. Ended up taking a Viet for 1600 for 2 shots plus taxi and was a great experience. As mentioned tax a cab to Portman and walk the 1 block towards Judy. No problem. Overall a great time but very expensive.

Spring seems to not have been offering the 396 option this week due to windy weather. The Chinese forum reports raids in Pudong, and multiple shops closed in multiple districts. You likely got one of the regular massage girls: yes, they give good massages! Expect the bad weather to continue for a while: this year is particularly 'sensitive' due to 70th anniversary of PRC founding, and 30th anniversary of 6/4, among other important dates. You'll notice increased police activity in all areas of life (drug checks, passport checks, traffic stops all have increased). Better play safe folks.

Crowds are way down. Nowhere near the number of customers as when Big Bamboo. Crowds are voting with their feet.

However, there are still places open but I wouldn't risk it. There are also those that are in apartments. Those seem to be a more viable option if you really have an itch. I would still advise against it.

This is for sure bad weather but small brother asked me to brave difficulties! So I went to MP on jianshan road my regular one on Friday. It is a 278 rmb for session with he. This time I walked in and the guy placed LE in a room à usual. Hi surprise faucet and sliding door of the shower removed. They have zero incentive to do a good job because they know or think your traveling through and not a potential repeat customer. M and J's are usually better at 130 than you say they are now. I believe what you are saying. I can verify 130-3:00 am usually are filled with the girls coming back through for a second customer. If you are down to 3-4 options, that is not what I have ever seen there. Granted, I usually go Friday and Saturday night. If you were there on a Monday or Tuesday it would be lighter. Sunday can also be hit and miss but stilll better than what you are talking about.
If you have time, hit M / J's between 1030 and midnite as steve stated. With the bad weather, it may not be any better however.

When I first moved to China 8 years ago, there were BBBs everywhere, at many MPs everything was available, and saunas operated in the open. Now there are no BBSs, MPs mostly only offer handjobs, and saunas operate discreetly. So, China today is definitely not a sex tourism destination. But if one knows China well, then one can figure out ways to monger. For me, my primary MO is that I collect WeChat contacts of MP gals and later text them to try to meet at their homes, and my success rate is about 30 percent. But for someone just traveling through, this method to get laid just takes too much effort and time. But that said, would I rather live in Midwestern USA or Shanghai if getting laid is important to me? Obviously Shanghai.

When you call them, they somehow will know if you're staying at the hotel alone or with family. Sometimes, they just ask me if I'm alone. Once they know you're alone, they'll send up a gal that is willing to offer FS. BUT,.
(1) Be prepared to pay for it. Usually, they will not settle for something less than 2000 tip. One girl started negotiations at 8000 LOL. So, including the massage fee, we are talking about 2500.
(2) They are usually a 3. Or someone whose best days are behind them. Of course you can decline, but how often do we really do that?
(3) They will ask how many days you're staying. So say you're staying for at least 2 weeks. Otherwise they will rush and / or give you poor service. Hell, they might do that anyway since you're likely a one-off.
(4) They often try to upsell you. Maybe you settle on 2000, and then you ask for a BJ and she'll say that's 500 extra.
(5) They are big-time clock watchers. The session starts once she's in the room, so don't waste time with the massage. Just start the negotiations right away. She will leave exactly on time, probably because her manager is monitoring the clock.
(6) Finally, this option exists primarily at Chinese hotels. It rarely exists or doesn't exist at a Marriott or similar, for example. At Western hotels, maybe a handjob is available at best, but again at a ridiculous tip.
Two parting comments. First, you might think it isn't worth it, but these girls are at your door within minutes of you calling. So it's super convenient. Second, I'm always surprised when no one writes reports on their room service experiences. I usually do. I've gotten laid every time I tried room service from within a Chinese hotel and wrote a report. So, please report. That would be your way of thanking me for my taking the time to write this.

A quick internet check revealed a spa at Ramada inn 10 minutes from Pudong Airport. Also a "Trip Advisor" report to avoid it because the staff was pushing him to go for "beautiful girls". Also Monica spa does outcall in Puxi. They declare "no breast push" but for 1600 a body slide is offered. 600 is the starting point.

I continuously figure out all alternative new ways to monger, but hell here is a nightmare.
Girls at lobby of my hotel at Pudong nighttime ask 1500 or 2000, and if at least I could be assured I get a decent service....

HELL they upsell in room, want money first, offer HJ for all that money, etc.
A friend paid 1000 and got HJ.
I took one of them, and I kicked her out of my room as soon as she started to play silly and ask money first, without even taking off a piece of clothes. A leech.

And I'the be surprised if a hotel spa will have a line-up. Management likely is going to pretend they are a legit spa just for show, especially during the current crackdown. And, in the massage rooms, the girl may be afraid of being caught offering more than a hand job, and if she is willing to offer more, then it'll be with her clothes half on and probably only mish and will try to rush you. In your room, she'll be a lot more comfortable. But again, don't expect a great GFE session with a girl 8. It'll likely be with a mid-thirties 3, and cost a ton. It is what it is. You're paying for the convenience.

The best you will get on Nanjing Lu is a poor massage at the top price plus more. It is even more likely that you will be taken somewhere by even a cute girl and given a short lousy massage and then bullied or beat up for $5000 USD for room rent. (Clip joint style).
Do not ever go anywhere with a tout you meet on the street. Why do you think they are on the street. It is not because they like you. Even taking Nanjing Lu girls to your hotel is asking to get robbed while you take a leak or have thugs knock on your door. The lower the price the more likely they are a gang of thugs.
A legit massage place should charge 300 to 350. Otherwise it is just another Nanjing Lu tourist rip off. Read the forum.

Extras were available from the spa gals, but now both places only offering the massage menu. One place is Shanana, and other is Fuquan. Both are pretty upscale chains. With the recent crackdown, I decided to try an indie. Went with Kim from NLO. Her sweet personality and great bod were a pleasant surprise.
