I heard that customs was recently rounded up and shipped to jail and that's why foreign booz are not being let into the island any more.

Has anyone (Recently) tried to bribe the customs guards upon landing to get through the line-up faster? Does it work? What do you pay?
If you walk to the right of the big "visa on arrival" mess, and walk up to the desk which is for airline crew, hand the nice customes officer your passport with 50,000 sticking out, he will be more than happy to stamp your passport.

This is the current visa situation in Indonesia.

If you intend to stay no longer than 30 days, you can get a "Visa on Arrival". This is available to almost all nationallities but with some notable exceptions. You get it at an airport for US$25. Legally it is non-extendable, but some people have tame immigration officers who can fix things for them.

Nationals from the ASEAN countries don't need to get a visa. They also get a maximum of 30 days on arrival....

So, in short, if you're coming here for less than 30 days, get the Visa on Arrival. If you intend staying longer than 30 days, get a Social Cultural visa index 211.
There's a third option to consider for those nationalities who are eligible for the "Visa on Arrival" and who wish to stay in Indonesia longer than 30 days.

The third option is to fly out of Indonesia at the end of the first 30 days of your stay, go to a nearby country (usually Singapore), then fly back to Indonesia and obtain another 30-day "Visa on Arrival." I believe that you can do this several times without having any problems.

This option is followed by many, many expat visitors; in fact, many of them fly to Singapore in the morning and return to Indonesia in the afternoon, avoiding a potentially-expensive hotel room.

Yes, it's not that cheap to have to purchase a Jakarta-Singapore or Denpasar-Singapore round-trip ticket, but you can usually buy a reasonably-priced ticket on Jetstar Air or even on Singapore Air during off-peak periods. And after staying 29 days in Indonesia, especially Jakarta, a day or two in Singapore can be a breath of fresh air and/or an opportunity to obtain decent medical care.

Depends on the shop of course. But usually 400,000 to 600,000 rp a month.
A servant in a home gets about the same. Plus makan x 2.

My friend has a Motorbike repair shop, she pays 4 to 6 for machanic, and 1 jt
for a manager.

At 10,000 rp = $1.00 1 jt = $100.00 a month.

This is the main reason that the senior members are adamant about Johns that over pay WG's. 1 jt for ST is insane. Don't pay that much.

The third option is to fly out of Indonesia at the end of the first 30 days of your stay, go to a nearby country (usually Singapore), then fly back to Indonesia and obtain another 30-day "Visa on Arrival." I believe that you can do this several times without having any problems.

You can do the old Singapore bounce back over and over again, no questions asked.

You don't even have to clear immigration or customs in Singapore. You get off the plane, sit in the lounge for less than an hour, and then you get back in the plane.

Lion Air operates a Denpasar -- Singapore -- Denpasar positoning flight which is very affordable. Rp1.3 million there and back.

The next cheapest direct flight to Sing is Garuda for over Rp3.3 million.

Only downside is the Lion Air leaves Bali at 1am or thereabouts and gets into Sing about 4am. Coming back it leaves Sing at 6am.

Other bounce-back cheapies are Bali -- Kuala Lumpur with Air Asia, or Jakarta -- Johore Bahru in Malaysia with Air Asia.

Forget about Dilli in Timor or Darwin or Perth, they are all over Rp3.6 million last time I looked and youcan't do them there and back same day.

These 3 areas are your best bet.

Seminyak for great food and accommodations.

Jimbaran for good food, beach Fish Restos and great Hotels

Sanur for quiet, decent food, lots of WG's modest price. And very Balinese Hotels.

These 3 have Hotels on the beach, restos on the beach and close to the
action.

Now check out the internet and target those areas.

there is a place near me, which has private villas for rent. 100 m to the beach, 5 minutes walk to the famed 66 club, in the middle of all the hot bars and restaurants.

I went there today to ask about a place for you. They have 2 bedroom units available, by the month for 2,000 USD. they have a kitchen open air bathrooms, and a plunge pool, meaning you can jump in and cool off and have fun with a girl, but you won't be able to swim laps.

I agree with 1ball. If you want action, you might not want to be in Candi Dasa.
It's a great area if you have a new squezz and and just want to get away.

You can also have the hotel order a woman from that area but you might
not get the quality that you are looking for. Just ask for the Hotel manager
and he will get a few to come by the hotel and you can choose the one you want.
Also great beaches and boat rides. Try it for a few days and then get back
to the areas of Fun in South Bali.

A friend and I will be in Bali for the first time, kuta dec 23-26 and ubud dec 27-30th, since I hear there is not much action in ubud, I'm wondering.

Would it be possible or advisable to take a couple of girls from kuta or sanur? Maybe from an x house, overnight or 2 days?

Where is best to find long time girls? And how much more or less should we expect to pay?

I'd focus on meeting a freelancer at a disco in Kuta...preferabely one without a manager. That way you can have some extended time together for an "interview" and an overnight try out. Girls from the x houses in Sanur may not speak much English, they have a pappasan and prohibitively high take out costs, and no real opportunity to get to know them well on a personal basis first. I've been told that all the girls at Paddy's have a manager, so I'd start the search elsewhere...perhaps Engine Room across the street. How much to pay depends on your negotiating skills, personal chemistry with the girl, and other factors...but I would think 900k might be your goal. Regulars in this forum may suggest otherwise. I live in Ubud and I can attest that there is little to nothing there, though I can make it to Sanur in 35 minutes on a motorcycle. As I mentioned a few reports ago that the average shop girl makes $60-120 monthly, so i'd say that 500,000 rups is more real, though I've never taken a girl overnight. There are a few "CAFE'S" around, which are not like the cafe's we might know at home. You can meet a girl there and make arrangements for the next night if she's willing and most are. Ask any local guy in Ubud where the cafe's are and throw him 10,000 rups.

Just returned from Bali. I found a sweety in Bounty disco and she asked 800K for long time. I negotiated this down to 600K. After a great night she stayed two more nights and one full day for 1800K (plus 400K for some clothes during shopping).

The ambiance in Sanur, Kuta, and Ubud is all quite different and I enjoyed all three as a first time visitor. But then I'm kind of an older reflective guy and enjoy checking out the local vibe by doing a lot of walking and photography in the process. Sanur is a beach town...more quiet and less crazy than Kuta. Your main options in Sanur are the x houses...no discos or bar action for pick up as far as I could tell. Perhaps two nights max there in Vila Shanti or skip entirely. You could drive over from Kuta in the morning to check out the town/beach, hit the x houses in the afternoon, and go back to Kuta for your evening. Transport costs will not be bad, especially if you split the tab with your buddy. Ubud is for more refined shopping, museums, and Balanese dance performances (which I highly recommend). Kuta is full of people, discos, and heavy traffic. Every other guy is a 30 yo Aussie wearing a Bintang tee shirt and drinking beer. Bottom line: most of the action is in Kuta and I'd spend most of my time there. By the way, I regret not taking a short trip up to Seminyak from Kuta. See 1Ball's reports and research that area. I think 4 nights in Kuta could get old...so I'd try to check out Sanur or Seminyak using Kuta as a base.

I don’t know how old you are, Adventurer, but I am 50, and I would not stay in Kuta if you paid me. The traffic is absolutely horrendous, to the point it is faster to walk than to take a taxi, however, in December the heat will knock you over if you do walk around.

This is what I would suggest.
1. Get yourself an international driver’s license with a motorcycle endorsement. If you can’t do that, no need to worry, you will just need to hand the cop 50,000 rps (4.50 USD) if you get stopped. Just tell him sorry, you forget your license in your hotel room. Rent a scooter for 3.00 USD / day
2. Stay in Seminyak. There are hundreds of places, from a luxurious villa, to small holes in the wall. You are coming at a very busy time, so get cracking. I know of a nice 2 bedroom villa with private pool, for about 130 USD / night, though probably higher during Christmas. PM me if interested.
3. When I say stay in Seminyak, I mean for the duration of your stay. Kuta is 10 minutes away, 66 club is 5 minutes away, all the good restaurants and drinking holes are less than 5 minutes away, and Ubud is 45 minutes away, you can take day trips.
4. The girls from the X houses probably will not be good company on a daily basis. They are there to fuck 10 guys a night, nothing else. For you to try to have a meaningful conversation with them will be extremely difficult. Best thing to do is to hit the beach at sunset to the left of 66 road once you get to the beach road, there are makeshift bars on the sand, smile to a couple of cute girls, and gauge the response. This is if you want start things early. If you don’t find anything there, go to Déjà vu, 66, Obsession, Santa Fe. All these places should have FLs ready willing and able to take your money. The prettier the girl, the higher the price, and at Xmas, OUCH. You may get lucky and find a Balinese woman, but probably they will all be Javanese. Personally, I think 1 million for an overnight is highway robbery, but I don’t pull from bars, so what do I know?

But I alsoi like your suggestion about the villa, it will work out much better as far as privacy and having company over.

Most of my adventures has been in Rio and Medellin, and with those cities having been discussed on the board so thoroughly.

me too - not only is it quiet and a bit boring, the beach is really nothing to write home about either - i'm not sure why anyone goes there.

there is a bit of diving in the area if you're a good diver and want to see some sharks, but it's not the best place to learn. if you want a nice quiet beach to relax at, pemuteran, amed or gili air (a 2 hour boat ride away, off the coast of lombok) are all much nicer - byob though (bring your own babe)

I spent a weekend in Bali, and did one of the PRs that work in Bacio and Double 6. She gave me a nice overview of who's constant in the clubs (and those chicks were absolutely stunning, and I DO have high standards), but she had no idea on prices. She explained that most chicks come from Java and look for a quick cash, and roam the all Bali joints for clients.

So where can you fuck in Bali? In pretty much every bar you go to, where you find Indonesian chicks without male company.

I was sooooo disappointed by Kuta beach, if you are not a surfer, go somewhere else, my advice.

I have recently returned from Indonesia, with two short visits to Bali separated by work elsewhere. Sanur is fantastic value in my opinion, the x houses are great and more flexible with take-aways than some of the posts here would indicate. I should add I am fluent in the language, so that certainly helps.

The standard price for a short-time asked of me was 200, 000, and when I asked for a take-away for 3 hours, the replies varied. Some papasans were less flexible, asking for 3 times the hourly rate. But most were prepared to go down to 400, 000.

The standard of the girls varied a bit. The pretties girls I found in 29 and the one just behind the massage parlour next to Circle K, the one with the narrow high window for viewing (it may be 99). And they really were very pretty, and young. I prefer a bit of experience, and on the first night, took out an older girl from 66, the second place behind the massage parlour. Cost 450, 000 for 3 hours, delivered to my hotel. Paid security 20, 000 to bring her to my room when she came. She was wonderful if you like GFE, which I do. Sweetest pretty girl, wonderful kisser, made an old bugger like me feel she was in love. Pretty impressive! Sorry I can't post photos though I took some, as she only works a couple of months each year, saving for a small stall at a market in her home town in West Java. She's getting close to her required nest egg, and does not seek publicity. I wanted her again for the next night, but she had not gone home for Ramadhan, and was leaving the next morning for a week's visit. We made a date for when I got back to Bali about 3 weeks later. I wanted her to come to my hotel during the day, so she could get all the money, but after being tempted, she decided she could not lie to her boss and girlfriends.

So the following night I settled for a ST in one of the "bring in" hotels in Danau Poso. They have somewhat more comfortable rooms and have bathrooms. The price was 200, 000 all up for ST. I rejected the first girl they brought. Too hard-faced, and accepted the second. A 20-year-old who has been on the game for 4 years, starting in Jakarta. I find if I tell the girls that I'm prepared to tip well if they provide good service, it's a great motivator, and I'm rarely disappointed. Not disappointed this time either, but not quite up to the previous night's high standard.

I met my new favourite again on return, and again had a wonderful night. She told me a lot about her work. So the standard price for ST is 130, 000 without AC, and 150 with. The girls get 50, 000 regardless of what the boss manages to charge the client. She told me she has had overseas clients who got charged 1. 2m, and she still only got 50, 000. The girls get weekly medical check-ups including blood tests. We talked about the young girls in 29's second room, and she told me it had been raided by police for having under-age girls.

I had enough time to wonder around a bit, so visited most of the Sanur places, including the Sutra complex where pretty ordinary girls can be had for about 50, 000. I did not indulge. Wondered all the way to Diyan Ayu, where I was the only possible customer. The girls were called out, and eventually about a dozen of the most clapped out tired old slappers arrived. I felt sorry for them, but not sorry enough to dip into that pool. I also went to the flea pit by the Yamaha sign on the Bypass road near Nusa Dua. This was quite an experience. I did not sample the wares. They were pretty basic. Either older mums or very ordinary younger girls, some a bit drunk or affected by something else. I was the only bule there, and the place is up a dark dirt road. You can buy a beer. I did, and if you have the language, it's easy to chat with the women who make you feel very welcome. There are up to ten houses with a few women in each, and a room with two pool tables and some very rough looking tatooed guys playing for money. I hung around there for a while too, and got nothing but politeness. Felt a bit worried when I left to walk the dark track to the main road to get a taxi. I would have been easy pickings if someone wanted to hassle me, but nothing happened, and the experinece added a bit of colour to my Bali stay. Overall, a great time.

Last week I stayed in Novotel Nusa Dua and I didn't have enough time to drive arounf for decent and cheap service outside of Nusa Dua, so I decided to try my luck with baliescorts. I called them and ordered a girl named "Erin" (see their homepage) for three hours in my room. They said that it's gonna be 150 USD, but since I'm from Europe and didn't have USD we agreed on 110 EUR instead. It took around one hour for the girl to show up, and it was a bit complicated, since baliescorts called my hotel with my room number that I provided and asked for confirmation and also asked that I tell the reception that there is a friend coming in order to enable that "friend" to enter the hotel. In the end this was no problem, although I think that the reception knew what sort of friend I was waiting for. They are not silly.

I didn't like that the girl was escorted by a guy, whom I had to give alle the money before he left the girl with me, but what the heck. The girl did not look like the Erin on the pictures, but she was nice anyway, so I decided not to argue about that.

First "Erin" seemed a bit strange and did not speak or smile to me that much, although I tried to make her relax a bit with some smalltalk. It turned out later that she thought I was a "bad" guy, because I reacted very cool at the door when she arrived. I explained her that it was only due to that guy and that it had nothing to do with her.

The three hours we then spent together was one of the hottest and best time I ever spend with a girl. She was great! She managed to give me a constant hardon for more than two hours. Kissing her was just excellent and reviving me alle the time, wow. I'd definetely order her again when being back in Bali!

While chatting in between I asked her how much she would get from the 110 EUR and she said that she gets 200 k Rp. For three hours. This is ridiculous, but I guess that's the normal way there. The girls don't have any chance. Before she left I gave her a tip of 200 k Rp. And I think she was very happy with that. I really liked her. Awesome girl! Beautiful eyes and a lovely smile, and so natural all the way!

Well, yesterday, I got fucked. Someone hacked one of the ATMs that I had recently used, got a hold of my card number and PIN. When I went to pull cash out, I found funds were not available as I had exceeded my daily limit. I ran home to look at my account online, and there had been 6 transactions in the last 24 hours, all at various ATMs in Singapore (I have not been in Singapore recently), for a total in excess of 900 USD. After calling my bank, and cancelling my card, and them promising to put the lost money in my account, I am however without cash, and without an ATM card. Thankfully, friends have been able to front me some money.

The strange thing is I have a daily withdrawal limit of 300 USD, by choice, and they still managed to grab over 900. The person at the other end of the line was not able to explain why.

Be careful out there, and check on a regular basis.

I have to say I had a quite good experience with the agency as they provided me in 3 different days 3 excelent takeaways in places like Manggis and Ubud, for LT.
The only bad part ot the story was the "body guards" that delivered the "pizzas" whom, apart from seeming real pirates, colected the money and waked me up one night to take the "pizza" back, early morning....I called the Pimp and it did not happen again.

My opinion is that it is not difficult to get the "pizzas" mobiles instead of speaking to the PIMP couple....

You might have missed the reports about the sharks and con artists among those WG's. Also, I have 5 days at the end of my trip that I have not yet made any travel arrangements for. Any good ideas? Particularly with the emphasis on good mongering. Three weeks is a little long from my perspective, but we're all different. I was recently in Ubud and Sanur but I don't recognize the places you're staying. Jakarta is an option if you want to focus on mongering. As a city it's quite large, spread out, and time consuming to get around. If you've never been there, it might be worth seeing. See my recents posts regarding a Jakarta hotel and sightseeing. The US dollar is quite strong now, so you can have a good time for less money. 10,000 IDR is now 83 cents US, so a 50,000IDR massage (1 hour legit) will set you back $4.15. Have fun.

I will be in Bali for a few days after the new year. My “usual” ground zero has been Kuta and I’ve been pretty good about posting field reports. I’ve also never gone on the prowl in Seminyak. Given that honorable 1Ball advises “Kuta really is pretty awful” and tells me that there are hundreds of places in Seminyak, I’d like some recommendations.

I’ve done a couple searches and come back with nada for specific recommendations on hotels/guest houses. Suggestions for anything in the $50 to $100 range that is a good location, whatever? Why would hotel x be a good location would be helpful for poor lost souls like me!

I thought about Sanur – good, specific suggestions are found in the forum – but I’ll feel a little more comfortable being close to the places I know result in a “sure thing.” Thanks for any advice. Open remarks or PM are fine. ~TTG

p.s. Sorry about the debit card, 1Ball. I got nailed a few years ago on charges from Taiwan -- one of the places in Asia I have never, ever been -- and for sure the only compromised location was in Bangkok Airport. I got hit when traveling outbound to Russia some years ago, after a Visa card transaction in NY JFK. Fool me twice, shame on me. I use only cash in airports now.

Seminyak, I’d like some recommendations.

A really nice place to stay is Harmony, which is Jalan Drupadi almost at the junction with Jalan Dhyana Pura. You should go down Jalan Dhyana Pura, and it is the first road to the right, about 50m from the corner.

As to mongering in Seminyak, Santa Fe is an ever-green. The beachfront at Double Six in the late afternoon early evening has its share of prowling rent-a-friends. Double Six night club can be full of P4P especially on Saturday night. Deja Vue has some action.

That said, the M'bargo, Bounty, etc etc down in Legian are said to be the best venues.

That said, there's no reason to stay near there. It would only be a Rp20,000 taxi ride from there to Harmony.

As for Sanur, it may be close to the X-houses, but it's a really mumsy resort to stay in, full of Dutch retirees, and the like.

I don't rate the X-house merchandise anyway, it's domestic focussed and although there are occasional cuties, it's mostly pretty rough and down market. If that's what you want, go for it.

You wouldn't want to be seen necessarily with an X-house bird on your arm, but the better quality rent-a-friends wouldn't embarrass anyone.

Here is a place which is a bit more than you asked for money wise, but it is in a perfect location, a 2 minute walk from the beach. It is on dhyana Pura in Seminyak, which is where Santa fe is located. You can also walk down the beach to 66 in less than 5 minutes. So it is in the heart of Seminyak, near all the good eating places, and surrounded by bars.

It consists of some private villas with private swimming pool, and depending on how long you might stay, and of course, when you want to stay, it can be as low as 100 USD per night.

There are of course many other places in Bali. But this is nice, you can be assured of complete privacy, it is GF, and it has a small pool, which is always nice, I mean a beautiful naked body splashing about in your pool might be worth an extra 20 or 30 USD per night, right?

Another ISG member is staying there over Christmas, based on my suggestion. I hope he likes it, and I am sure he will post a comprehensive report. I can also give you a list of bars and clubs near the area. there are many within walking distance.

I must strongly take issue with this. I just spent a few days in Sanur, and I was more than a little surprised at the overall high quality of the young ladies at the various X-houses. I did six sessions with 4 different ladies, and a couple of repeats with a pair of very noteable performers. I would say that the 4 ladies that I did were, looks-wise a 7, a couple of 8s, and a 9. the selections were from 66x, 41x, and 29 houses - 29 had by far the most ample selection of doable babes, and both the 9 and spectacular 8 were pulled from there. I feel compelled to note that the 29 house is address #29, NOT #29X. I actually walked past it the first time because of this confusion. As noted in an earlier report, it can be identified by a black and white sign on Danau Poso with the number 29 and an arrow pointing at the alley, and the house itself is the first place on the right hand side, walking from Danau Poso. It's perhaps 100 meters up the street from the On-On bar (identified with the big Heineken sign). I should point out that all of the X-houses described here are in the southern part of Sanur, while most of the hotels are in the northern part of Sanur. And you don't want to take a cab to these places, because the cab drivers will get a commission that bumps your rate up by 50-100K. If you're in one of the more northerly hotels, take a Bemo - public green Dihatsu mini vans that run up and down the main street. I could never figure out if the rate was 3000 or 5000 Rupiah. I was told it was 3000, but several drivers insisted it was 5000. Perhaps for us round-eyes, it is. In any case, 3000 Rupiah is about a Quarter, and 5000 is maybe 40 cents U.S., so it's not worth the argument.

Of the 4 ladies I did, none were older than their mid twenties. Not surprisingly, the 9 in looks was the least inspired performer, but of the couple of 8s, one was excellent, and the other was off the charts in enthusiasm - either a true nympho or an oscar-caliber actress - and I couldn't care which. Both of these enthusiastic 8s were also passable enough in English that I could communicate with them. As a result of being as favorably impressed as I was with the caliber of the X-house girls in Sanur, I decided to return there for the last 5 days of my trip. The other 8 was pulled from 41x. I never went with a taxi. I was always able to negotiate the price down to either 150K or 200K for FS, including the room. I also tipped the girls 20K to 50K typically, or 100K for something truly exceptional.

It didn't hurt that I was able to book the Mercure hotel for $57 a night all inclusive. The Mercure is a very good quality full scale beach resort that is only about 5-600 meters from the nearest X-houses. I'd rate it between a 3.5 and 4* hotel by U.S. resort standards. It's much closer to the X-houses than the place I stayed in the past several days. Most of the better Sanur hotels are not really within walking distance to the X-houses - only the Hyatt, The Puri Santrian and the Mercure are, and the Hyatt is triple the price of the Mercure (and, IMHO only slightly nicer - maybe worth a 50% premium, but not 3X and the Puri Santrian was fully booked). If you happen to be further away in one of the many hotels in the more northern part of the town, take a Bemo to get there.

Service costs ranged from 150k to 1.5 million! I wouldn’t pay more than 200-250k otherwise the market is just being spoilt, but girls are becoming greedy and if you need some action then it’s up to the individual.

Appears that not much is happening before 11pm.

X-houses (brothels located in the southern part of Sanur)

Orientation points: On-On Bar (identified by the big Heineken sign) and the Circle K convenience store, a number of brothels can be visited within the four to six blocks between these locations. Keep a look out for “motos” – taxi motorbikes with ladies on them that may indicate the hotspots.

29 (address 29, not 29X) - identified by a black and white sign on Danau Poso with the number 29 and an arrow pointing at the alley. It is the first place on the right hand side, walking from Danau Poso, 100 meters up the street from the On-On Bar (another guide is to start at the On-On Bar and walk toward Circle K, it’s on the same side of the street).

66x is about 30 yards on the right down a rather dark lane by the left side of the Circle K store set back a little from the lane. There is another X House (possibly numbered 15 just before 66)

67x is on from 66x at the end of the lane, apparently fairly new, quite and clean with spacious rooms.

A place frequented by locals (if you are into dirty mattresses on the bare floors) can be found via a dirt alley about a block before Circle K (opposite side of street), between a Wartel Telecommunications store and a local convenience store - 8 and 12 houses with red illuminated signs over each door saying "Sutra". These houses open into the center parking lot.

I'm back in Sanur for another 5 days of fun. I did not bother with the scene in Semenyak, as it was too late at night for my aging body, and there was nothing in Ubud but the terraced rice paddies, restaurants, galleries and shops. All of the action that I got on this trip was in Sanur, except for a couple of massages with happy manual endings in Lombok. The Mercure is a convenient 7-8 minute walk to the midst of the X-houses on Danau Poso.

I should mention that in Sanur, 66x and 67x are the same operation, right next door to one another. The ladies hang in 66x and use the rooms in 67x. At night, there may be additional ladies in 67x as well, but it's all connected. Thus far, 29 house seems to have the most high quality choices to select, but I have pulled a couple of cuties out of 66x and 41x as well. By next week, I should have checked out most, if not all of the X-houses in this part of Sanur.

I've been able to get action from a couple of these places as early as 11:30 AM (generally, there are no girls hanging out there at that time, but they will be happy to pick up one or two ladies and bring them to the places. 2.) Since I will be there only 2 days and since I am 69 years old. I would like to have some pretty high quality this time. On a previous trip I have tried the Sanur xhouses. It was pretty good for around 250,000.
This time I would like better: GFE, 8 or better, no hassle, someone really nice, warm friendly i.e. TRUe GFE.
I would not mind paying up to 700,000 for a couple of hours at my hotel (not yet determined). But I do not want to end up paying the higher price for the same average that one gets for around 250,000 - 350,000.

700K can get you an all night takeout from the X-houses in Sanur. I was quoted that in 2 places between 10 and 11 PM on a Saturday, and I had the sense I could negotiate it down to 600K. And while I did not take anyone out of those places, I DID consider several of the choices I did within those venues for ST (200K + 50-100 tip) to have rated 8s.

The reason I didn't do any of those ladies for all-nighters, was the language issue. If I'm with a lady for several hours, I want to be able to have a conversation with her. If all we're going to do is fuck, than who needs her hanging around for several hours while we're NOT fucking.

after some good days in jakarta, i had a few days to spend in bali. but i’m a bit fed up of kuta. it’s a messy place and i could just imagine how new years eve would be there, absolute mayhem. so i took a taxi straight from the airport to ubud which was still a quiet place which was good for me after the time i spent in thailand, the quietest new year for me ever. then i took a bus in candidasa. not much going on there either. but before leaving bali in the morning i placed myself in kuta for a night. booked a room at white rose hotel, which was surprisingly good for the price i got, 45 usd.

not having had sex for 4 days i really felt for some and in the area around ground zero you always get those offers for massage, and then sex massage. i decided to give it a try. the price was 200k for the deed in the shop, but i wanted it in the hotel for which she asked 300. agreed on 250 and we went to take a look about 2 min away on motorbike. i was taken to a small hair dresser and from the back room came 6 girls, none of them any special, mostly average girls. they seem to live there in that back room, and i would not be interested in doing it there. the best looking one wasn’t smiling, so i took a small one who was, a 23 year old from surabaya. thought about dropping it, but was both to lazy to look other places and curious to try it out. they wanted an extra 20 for the security at the hotel, but i said i’ll fix that. had to pay to mama boss in the shop. so off i went with the girl on a motorbike. we switched seats so i was driving when we drove through the gate.

I visited the “Balinese Massage” near Kuta earlier this year. I completed some research prior to my visit by having lengthy discussions with locals that had frequented this establishment. I had been there once sometime ago but felt uncomfortable at that time because I wasn’t sure of what was on offer and wasn’t sure if anything indeed was. This time I wanted to be prepared with inside knowledge. My situation in Bali prevented me having anything more that ST during an afternoon.

I was told that many Japanese tourists like to go there and they will pay Rp1M for extra service. Locals pay Rp300K and other tourists Rp500K.

I went in about 2pm and booked a massage session for 1 hour in a private room. The rate was Rp90K if I recall correctly. The room was small, had a massage bed and shower and a lockable door.

I was escorted to the “fishbowl” where there about 20 girls all dressed in blue jeans and yellow T shirts each wore a badge with a number.

The fishbowl is a large room with two long bench seats that the girls sit on. Although there are white lines on the glass the girls can easily see you.

After much consideration I chose number 75. Not sure why I chose her, she smiled a lot and looked like she had large breasts.

Anyway, she took me to a room and she told me to nude up and then commenced to massage me. After about 5 minutes I turned and asked her if she offered any extras. She replied with a smile and said of course. HJ was Rp300K, FS was Rp500K. I tried so hard to get her to reduce the price but after so much haggling I accepted the offer after my local friends had told me that was the going rate anyway.

50 minutes later I could only say that it was the best Rp500K I have ever spent in a MP. Did I pay too much? I had no choice and with the result I had I didn't care.

I had the best GFE, BBBJ, DATY, DFK the lot!. She wanted more! But I was stuffed!
She was about 25, looks 8.5, body 9, GFE 10+

She informed me that all the girls there perform full service you just need to ask.

Highly recommended - if she is still there as the girls often move on.

@ Hamaca - Bali is not as monger-friendly as Bangkok, in my opinion. For a start, it’s not as easy to move about and the addresses are not as easy to pin down. Many reports in this (Bali) forum struggle to give directions to one place or another. You’ll see a good bit of “go to the bakery and walk 50 metres…” and other such directions. It often looks more like a treasure hunt than street address information! And the bars will not have “hostesses” or other girls so obviously working. I think Bangkok, or anywhere in Thailand, is just easier and more obvious. Bali is not that difficult, except that the action is more observable later at night.

@Lotty228 – Use the search function, and you will come up with a posting that gives the address and telephone number for Bali Massage, as well as map. Look for a post by Marpa on 09-06-07.

Read back some on this thread but Will be traveling to Bali instead of China as intended later this year but need advice for cheapest hotels possible (just need to be safe/clean/private bathroom with hot water if possible) and close to the actions, Don't need the pool, restaurants/bars, lobbies etc.

ex. near Sanur brothels- or within 10-15min walking distance ok.

In Kuta at least there are loads of places where you can rent a motorbike. Other places I've been on the island it's easy to rent a bike as well. It should be about 50K IDR a day. You can negotiate less for longer rentals. Beware that for one day rental you have to turn back the bike the same day.
I’ve only been stopped by the police ones, and of course that was the time I didn’t have my international driving license and was fined. It seems like they sometimes put up check points where they stop tourists to generate some extra cash because of lacking international driving licenses.

I presume you are used to maneuvering in chaotic traffic; driving there isn’t for the faint hearted.

Have some small cash ready for the road blocks. They are made purely to raise funds from tourist.

Long time ago a friend of mine was driving a jeep, that was rented on my name, with no licence with him. About 15 policemen in the block one of them most probably beeing a General. Too many stripes. My friend had his company ID but the officer would't buy it for a licence.

So I gave him some cash. He thought it was too little. He actually went to the General for instructions and he said no too little. So I doubled the amount and was ok. Just make sure they don't see lots of money in your hands.

Next day same place same block I was driving with my international licence and they let me go when they saw it.

Can't remember the amount paid exactly but it was small. 10-15K at that time when the dollar was about 2.500. That I remember

One more thing. Always use your own calculator when changing money especially to the places offering better rate. They use fixed calculators and you end up with much less money than you should. Happened to a friend of mine.

1. you can be stopped by police at any time, no reason (violation) needed, but it doesn't happen much. in one month of riding i might get stopped 0-2 times. during these "routine" stops, they are checking:

a. are you wearing a helmet
b. do you have proper motorbike documents (registration)
c. do you have proper license.

if you satisfy all of these, you will be allowed on immediately, they aren't interested in wasting time with you if you are legit.

if you fail any of these, proceed to the bribery phase of the transaction:

you then say, "can i take care of it now? " he will say, "how much will you pay now? " you will then enter a short phase of negotiation, not unlike haggling for a good price on a t-shirt. you have a little leverage in that he does not want you to take the ticket and go to court, he wants the bribe, so anything he can collect is a bonus for him but he won't let you go for too cheap. suitable price is 50k rupiah per violation.

Licenses:

1. You can bring a suitable license with you from your home country, which means, an "international drivers License" (IDL). In USA the rights to issue those belong to AAA auto service. I'm sure you can do a Google to find the authority in your country. If you want to drive a motorbike in Bali, the International License is worthless without having the motorcycle endorsement stamped. That will only happen if you are licensed for a motorcycle on your home driver's license. If you are stopped and have the IDL but not motorcycle endorsed, that is the same as having no license.

2. You can get a license in Bali. I go to a Police Station on the way to the Uluwatu surfing beaches, but I'm sure it can be done elsewhere. I go in and tell the policeman on duty I want to drive a motorbike for xx days and I'd like to get a license, "is this possible"? He will say yes, and get out a somewhat official form, and fill it out by hand. This form is your license. You will need your home driver's license he can copy some info from and it wouldn't hurt to have your passport too, that he can refer too, but he won't keep either of these items. After this, carry only the local license form. Do not carry or show your home license.

YOUR HOME LICENSE DOES NOT NEED TO BE MOTORCYCLE ENDORSED to get this local motorbike license. You should pay him 150K rupiah, which is comparable to the cost of the international license anyway.

Motorbike rentals are everywhere in the tourist areas.

1. When you receive the bike, it will almost always be nearly empty of gas, so your first step is to find out where the nearest gas is sold, and go there. 3-4 liters to fill the tank. Gas is around 5000 rupiah/liter.

2. Contrary to what someone else said, a day of rental is 24 hours. Further, If you rent 7 days, starting at noon on Jan. 1, it is due back by noon Jan. 8.

3. Automatic transmission bikes are widely avaiable now and are highly recommended. Easier to drive. Tend to have a larger storage bin under the seat. the Yamaha Nouvo has very large bin, enough to store your helmet.

4. Price for a automatic should be 30K/day, manual 25K/day. For long rentals, say 10 days or more, you should be able to get 5000 rupiah less per day.

5. Test the bike! Check headlights, high beams, brake lights, taillights, turn signals front and back, brakes work, start easy, idles properly, frame isn't bent, etc. etc. drive it down the street and back to make sure it is aligned properly. Observe your gas situation (See #1 above)

6. Get your dealer's hand phone number in case the bike fails. If it fails through no fault of yours, he should come out to you and fix it or replace it.

7. Minor damage you cause, just fix it yourself at a local mechanic. they are very very cheap and better than returning it dinged to the dealer.

8. Flat tire: a new tube including installation is only 50K.

9.. Buy gas at a petrol station, do not buy from roadside vendors. They cut the gas with Kerosene and also it can be dirty. This can result in clogging your fuel supply or messing up your carb.

10. No need for insurance. Better to fix any damage yourself, and besides, if you pay insurance and then damage it, very likely the dealer will confront you with some kind of "deductible" amount or say xyz damage isn 't covered, etc. In other words your aren't buying anything.

driving in bali can be dangerous as there is an "anything" goes mentality of the drivers.

1. safest scenario is when you a going along with the traffic, even though everyone is passing on all sides, people are going in the same direction and accidents rarely happen at this time.

important: make no sudden moves, turns, drastic lane changes, etc. always precede every significant event with a turn signal.

2. the real danger is vehicles pulling out in front of you, turning in front of you, driving straight at you in "your lane" (tour buses, trucks). do not drive a motorbike and sightsee at the same. you must focus on the road and traffic. you must do two things at once:

a. negotiate the immediate traffic scenario near you.

b. anticipate 50-100 meters down the road. for example, if you see a tour bus in the distance and he is behind a slow car, you can be fairly sure he is going to pass the car using your lane whether you are there or not. you can then begin to flash your lights warning him off, and/or begin slowing down so he can complete the pass prior to running you off the road.

c. it is possible to drive at a relatively moderate safe speed staying to the "leftish" side of the road (not too close, hazards can surprise you from there), and just cruise along incident free. it's not a bad idea to find a large car that is traveling at a decent pace, and just drive behind it at a close but safe distace. the car then acts as a major deterrent to other vehicles encroaching in your area. but still, make sure you are visible, and be ready for anything.

d. use your horn often to warn people where you are. anticipate, and beep early. especially if it looks like someone is going to pull out in front of you.

Licenses:

1. You can bring a suitable license with you from your home country, which means, an "international drivers License" (IDL). In USA the rights to issue those belong to AAA auto service. I'm sure you can do a Google to find the authority in your country. If you want to drive a motorbike in Bali, the International License is worthless without having the motorcycle endorsement stamped. That will only happen if you are licensed for a motorcycle on your home driver's license. If you are stopped and have the IDL but not motorcycle endorsed, that is the same as having no license.

2. You can get a license in Bali. I go to a Police Station on the way to the Uluwatu surfing beaches, but I'm sure it can be done elsewhere. I go in and tell the policeman on duty I want to drive a motorbike for xx days and I'd like to get a license, "is this possible"? He will say yes, and get out a somewhat official form, and fill it out by hand. This form is your license. You will need your home driver's license he can copy some info from and it wouldn't hurt to have your passport too, that he can refer too, but he won't keep either of these items. After this, carry only the local license form. Do not carry or show your home license.

YOUR HOME LICENSE DOES NOT NEED TO BE MOTORCYCLE ENDORSED to get this local motorbike license. You should pay him 150K rupiah, which is comparable to the cost of the international license anyway.

As I suspected and suggested, the International Drivers License was always a worthless piece of paper when trying to rent motos almost everywhere I tried to use it in the past (going back more than 10 years and in many countries) which is why I no longer bother with it.

Mongers on their way to Bali via Bangkok can pick up a perfectly adequate (though false) International Drivers License good for cars and bikes in Khao San Road. Most have 10 years validity.

Yes you can get an official one at one of two big police stations in Denpasar, but getting it can be a half day ordeal including travel time.

You can get the letter referred to by Randsurfer at (some) police stations, but only if the cops have enough English to know what you're asking for, or if your Indonesian is up to it.

There are very frequent "sweeping" road blocks where all drivers are stopped and their licenses and registration papers checked. Westerners are manna from heaven for the cops since most are unlicensed. Depending on the cop's greed, you might get stung anything up to 100,000 rupiah, about $US10.

Westerners in cars and on bikes are also pulled over at random, especially if they look like they are new arrivals, in the hope that "on-the-spot fines" can be levied.

Some cops will scribble you a note which ostensibly you can show to other cops that pull you over so you are exempt from being stung, but these are often ignored.

And I know any number of people who have been hit several times over a two week holiday.

So if you're coming through Bangkok, take half an hour out of your day and get a plastic international drivers permit in Khao San Road.

International licenses are required, HOWEVER, since Indonesia is the second most corrupt country in the world, (they keep trying to be number 1), paying off the local polisi with a blue bill actually, which is 50,000 rps, or about 4.50 USD, is the way to go. Do not rent from the hotel, just walk arounbd, you will se dozens of bikes parked on the street with a sign on them, for rent. You will probably be asked for 50,000 per day, but the going rate is 30,000. Since it is very quiet right now, you will be fine paying 30,000 especically for multiple days.

One last word on the int'l license. a friend got a fake one, and paid a bigger fine than if he just told the polisi he sisnt have one. They don't like to be made fun of. I have one, a real one, motorcycle endorsed, and when they see it, they don't bother me at all.

someone asked about beaches and clarity of water. The South of Bali isn't known for calm clear water, you need to go up north for that, but I just got back from Lovina today, and it is nasty. Rainy season, big waves, lots of wind. Best time for that is May through october.

One more thing. Always use your own calculator when changing money especially to the places offering better rate. They use fixed calculators and you end up with much less money than you should. Happened to a friend of mine.
This is somEthing that makes me crazy, the thieves at some fly by night foreign exchange.
Typically, it will be a very small shop, with a desk which is as high as your chest, and 2 guys will start chatting away, to distract you, so they can rip you off. If a place is offering a much better rate than others, DO NO TRY TO BEAT THEM AT THEIR GAME, these guys are pros. Do not let anyone touch your money once they have counted it in front of you.

best rule of thumb is, if it looks legit, and if they write out a receipt for the transaction, then it is safe. IF NOT, DO NOT DO BUSINESS THERE, YOU WILL LOSE.

Scooters - recently rented a scooter from along the street in Seminyak, 30k a day for 3 days. Used it extensively, riding from there to Kuta and Sanur. I was pulled over at one intersection and had to go through the charade of being told i would need to go to court.... however i could pay 100k and be on my way. I knew that 50 to 75 was the going rate for non Indonesians, explained that i only had 75k on me, which was accepted.
Smiles in both directions throughout the transaction. No problems!

Changing money - My wife simply cannot get it through her head that if the rate is to good to be true then it isn't true! (The golden rule for all investment schemes). She would insist that she was on top of their game, but each of the 3 times she tried she was done like a dinner!! Don't bother trying to change if the rate is too high, or they start trying to give you a heap of 20k notes. pickup your A$, Euro or US$ and walk away. TIP: check your original stake before you walk away, these guys are so good you will find yourself taking away less than you gave them even if you changed nothing!

But talking about a International Driver's license (IDL) it is valid for 1 year. I took a date stamp from my office and I extended it myself for 4 years. No questions asked when I was stopped, the police man could not even read the license I guess (it is not valid for a motor ;-) he thanked me for showing it and I was on my way again. And I paid Rp 20.000 for the motorbike last year.

A couple of years ago, my license expired beofre I had a chance to renew it, so I just threw it in the swimming pool for 10 minutes, it came out soggy, the date was a smear, but my smilling face was still there. it looked like a legitimate mistake to me, and luckily the cop who stopped me a week later just smiled when I told him I was so stupid to go swimming with my license in my pocket. He was more interested in hearing the triple horns I had just installed on my bike, which still, BTW, have zero effect on people ahead of me, when I blast it. Phantom, the most corrupt country in the world is Nigeria, and Indonesia is trying hard to become number 1, but you have to give it to the Nigerians, they are very good at what they do.

IMO, a motorbike really is the only way to go, as long as you drive responsibly. traffic can be absolute gridlock, and what would take you 15 minutes on a bike would take an hour in a car. There are many small "gang" here, which mean small streets or alleys, where cars cannot enter, but they are a maze of little lanes which allow you to take shortcuts everywhere, which is great when the streets are full of cars. And don't worry about the polisi, you most probably will not get pulled over. I saw a funny thing yesterday, though it happens daily. A cop tried to pull over a guy in a car who had made a left on a red, and as he waved the driver of the car down, the driver waved back, and just sped away. The cop just walked back to his post, unfazed. Win some, lose some.

If you are under 60 years old, stay in Legian, kuta is 10 minutes away, and Legian is less crowded. Google different Bali hotel sites, and you will find things for under 30$. Staying in sanur is for families and old people.

Bali to Surabaya by bus? I would rather kill myself. Take the plane. Not only lion air, but many others, no problem buying your ticket the day before, there will be many choices. (everyone smokes on the bus, and they have a big TV, blaring music at 3 million decibels. Quite a few indonesian people do not wear deodorant. enough said).

somone posted an excellent map of Sanur and the X houses maybe a year ago. it might take a while, but if you look back, just scroll up or down each page, until you see an attachment. One of those attachments will be a map.

Lastly, if you are the adventurous kind, with not too much luggage, and depending on your arrival time, you could get into a taxi, ask the guy to take you to the bali bomb site, and walk around looking for a hotel. Dozens within 5 minutes of the bomb memorial, inexpensive. you can then see the room for yourself, and decide. Dozens of bars within 5 minutes of the bomb memorial.

After living in Bali from 2004-2007, I left for Vietnam, however I'm now back living on the island officially as of mid December so I thought I'd share a few insights from my re-entry.

I've never been a particularly big patron of nightclubs and the late-night bar scene, though in my early 40's I have little tolerance for the loud music and exorbitant prices, so my experiences gravitate heavily towards massage parlors, spa's, and the casual pick-up.

My biggest adjustment since returning is dealing with the closure of Kuta Sauna (now Jegeg Bali) which was a fantasia for me during its existence. The girls were attractive, indulgent, free spirited, and feisty. There are few places that offered so much for so little so consistently. Jegeg is a pale imitation of its predecessor with a severely depleted staff consisting primarily of second tier talent.

For those of you who enjoy Balinese Massage I recommend No. 24, her name is Veronica, though she prefers Icha. From Surabaya she has an amazing rack on her lithe frame, her face appears Japanese which lends an oriental exoticness to her feline features. I've taken her to several places around Bali and when sufficiently primed she'll leave you bedraggled.

I've been spending some time at Grahadi. The first experiences were with the massage services where after a half dozen attempts I finally settled on No. 7 Lila. Someone has already referred to her, though they noted No. 4, as plump but not fat, which I think is an apt description. She has a huge rack and the trunk come fully loaded. The VIP rooms (80K) are great especially vis-a-vis the claustrophobic curtained cells one occupies in most massage places. Upon entry she locks the door and disrobes and the hour (150-250K) passes very quickly. Though she is not a GFE experience she is very close; she has come to my villa once so far (9pm-7am/600k) with 3 pops, DATY, DFK, and a great massage. She is eager to return but I prefer to keep it a Grahadi for the time being.

Upon leaving Grahadi after one of these mid-afternoon sessions I observed the Karaoke girls making their way from the restaurant area to the side door entrance for the Karaoke building. One girl is particular was absolutely stunning, Tina Turner like legs and Tyra Banks like body, though I did not get a good look at her face.

A few nights later I visited Grahadi Karaoke and made my way down the long dimly corridor to the small viewing room in the rear of the building. I must say the mama-san, her body especially, is very attractive to me and I've tried to negotiate for her but so far no luck. [Note: while I'm not fluent by any means in Indo I can converse and able to effectively communicate]

I tried to book No. 49 and was quoted 900, 000K for ST (3 hours) or 1. 2 million for LT (all night/take out). I agreed to LT but only then was told she was already booked. Scanning the other 30 candidates I didn't see any that really excited me. Beware, close scrutiny of many of these girls will reveal that many are sporting some plump midriffs which are disguised by the way they position themselves when seated. And given that most everything else is padded the "real deal" is many times not what you think you ordered.

So I booked No. 49 before leaving for the next night which put a "hold" on her till 9pm the following night. However when I showed up I found that she hadn't reported for work that night so my booking carried forward and if I decide to go tonight I'll follow up with a report.

Further up the road, on the same side, directly across from a large roof mounted red/white lettered sign reading "Surf Wear Factory Sale" is Kuta Timur Resort.

As many have noted already the great deal here is the private "villa" accommodation they provide for 150, 000k (3 hours), if you choose a girl for massage its min 2 hr booking (100, 000). You don't have to use their girls, and you can phone ahead to book a villa, they will tell you the number of the villa, and you can literally drive into the carport and shut the door behind for total discretion. They are spartan though comfortable, the only real nuisance is the very loud Karaoke music coming from the adjacent building.

I had April two consecutive nights, and as Dom Peringnon, has already written that girl is sick! She will ravish you in every conceivable way for 3 hours running if you're up for it. Aside from some dermatitis on her legs which she is very conscious of. Her body is a 6. But her attitude and enthusiasm and sincerity combine to make for a 10+ experience; she is sexual sybarite! For my initial 2 hr full-on nearly everything goes ordeal I gave her 400k. For the 3 hour sensory sex fest I paid 500k. This girl will do anything to please, and again as DP alluded to, I mean anything. The next time with me she will bring along a posse of her pre-selected friends to enhance our experience.

Last night I ventured out to Blue Eyes, which is on the by-pass en route to Sanur on the left hand side. It's attached to a relatively nice hotel, Genesis, marketed towards the domestic tourist. While the nightclub opens at 10pm you can access the fishbowl hours beforehand by taking an immediate hard right turn upon entering the hotel lobby. There are two nondescript doors behind the lobby coffee bar and pool tables off to your right. Upon entry you will be greeted by a welcome desk but take the stairs to your left down one level and at the end of the corridor on the left side is their fishbowl.

When I first entered a very attractive welcome host showed me the rooms, I believe they go for 168, 000/hr with the rooms on the right side a tad more expensive as they have a door which opens to a tiny patio overlooking the nightclub below.

When it became apparent my primary interest was not karaoke I was offered "sexy dancers" for my room at which time my host showed me to a room where a dozen girls in various stages of dress were lounging about. Suffice it to say but I found none of them very attractive, and nowhere near sexy. At this time I was led to the fishbowl as already described.

Unlike the fishbowl and Grahadia, and the massage fishbowls, these girls are dressed like debutantes with full hair and make up treatment very much like Bangkok.

I initially chose No. 006, then selected another two from an adjoining room where they were finishing up their dressing. I told my host at this time that I had no desire for the karaoke rooms but wanted to take them out.

The prices are very steep; 1. 2 million for ST, and 1. 5 million for LT (which ends at 6 am! ). Most take them to the adjacent Genesis hotel (rates can be found on-line though I'm told they have special hourly prices) but I wanted to go back to my villa. I was told that only a select few are available for take-out. The rest you have to eat-in! Fortunately, the hottest. Body 9, face 8. 5. Of the three was 'available' so I bit the bullet and paid her freight.

During our small talk she asked how long I had booked her, I told her till approx 7 or 8 am. Islandboy, the guys at customs are 99% interested in catching you with too much alcohol or cigarettes. if you get stopped, it most likely will be due to the guy running your luggage through the X-ray just before your luggage goes onto the carrousel tagged it. What I mean by that, is they will put a few "X" with yellow chalk all over your suitcase. (not nice of you have expensive luggage. I have seen Louis Vuitton suitcases covered in chalk marks).

In any event, I always have a wet cloth inside the front pocket of my suitcase, inside a Ziploc. If there are marks, I just rub them off before walking over to customs. If they ask you to open the bag, it is a very cursory look inside. A bag with a bunch of pills do not interest them 1 bit. As long as you don't bring drugs in, you will be fine. Do not even think about bringing in pot, or worse. Google "Corby Chapelle", to see what happens to you if you get busted with pot.

But a few Viagra? not a problem. Throw some in your bag, get on a plane, and go have fun. spend some money there, it is badly needed.

Ah, Youth! Gone are the days when I could haunt bars after midnight, now I have early nights and survive on a fixed income. That does not stop my mongering, just modifies it. There's been a huge explosion of massage parlours and spas in the last couple of years and they're everywhere.

I may be wrong but it's my sense that only a very small percentage offer any extras as part of house policy. Individual girls may give you a rub and tug, but don't count on it.

Use the search function on this thread to find "massage" "hj" or "happy ending" and you should get an adequate list.

Just walking in and expecting it to be like Bangkok is going to disappoint you more often than not.

I find that to be all too true no matter where I go in Asia. The locals will always get the lowest rates that we visitors will never see.
Some places are obvious-like some MP in Bangkok. Some MPs actually have a sign telling you "foreigners" pay extra surcharge.

Hanqe, Mick 79 mentions Circle K, so it must be Sanur. (Of course, there are many Circle K in bali).
but if I am correct, as you travel from the roundabout on Danau Poso, Circle K is on the right. Immediately past that, is a gang, and you can actually see a house in the distance with a big number and X on it. IIRC, it is 67X. Must be around there that Mick is talking about.

mps. lots of them in kuta, sanur, ubud. but there are some specific ones which has good quality ones and for outcall. takes some time to find out those and spread the word as they operate in quiet places. most have girls available for st around 300-400k and lt 700-900k. we planned to go to one of those places but then decided against it as i wanted to spend more time partying rather than out-call.

chicken houses. these are basically st in-call places where you go and the pimp gets some 2-3 girls at a time for you to select. there are rooms there where you finish the deal and pay the pimp. quick in and out. i went to one place and the girls were good. the one i took spoke decent english and gave me her number. too bad i was leaving the next day. prices range from 300k-350k st, open for negotiations, but locals pay less.

clubs, pubs, bars. as usual lots of freelancers and most ask ridiculous prices. but if you have time and buy some drinks for them, go dancing they do open up and you can take them to hotel for prices based on your negotiation. some of the pubs on jl legion are amazing with great music played by djs. the atmosphere is great but you need to know which are the ones are good as there are so many of them now.

shopping malls. definitely has potential but i did not get much chance to explore. did visit a mall named centro, bought a t-shirt and did get some vibes from the sales girl there.

all in all if you have time, bali is the place to party late with amazing indonesian girls, and monger as much as you want without burning a big hole in your pocket.

but if you are short on time and just want to check out the highlights, find some local guy who can be trusted and he will take you to places which are the most happening. this one who took me around has his tourist office in front of a famous hotel on poppies lane 1. if anyone wants his contact details pm me, but might have to take some tours from him to gain his trust. i have not mentioned names of specific places i visited as it was night time and i forgot the names, was too drunk to note down the directions/names.

and finally, be safe from those motorbike ladyboys who target single males late in the night on secluded lanes.

You can read my reports on Grahadi and Kuta Timur. Both are known to taxi drivers and are near each other. Both are 5 to 10 minutes from central Kuta, with taxi fare less than 20k. I've never been to Travel Hotel, sad to say, so I can't give you any comparison info.

That said, I would go to Grahadi. Send an email first. You can check out the website at http://www.grahadi-bali.net/ Get prepared for sticker-shock with ST at 900k. I have never used the massage place, which I was told is separate from the bar/karaoke. My guess is that someone will help you along.

The beaches in Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, have been disgusting of late. Tons of debris floating in from the ocean is landing at each high tide on the beaches, plastic, dead fish, driftwood, etc. Not a pretty sight and very unpleasant to swim in.

Cant tell you about Sanur beaches at the moment, as haven’t been there.

If you are more interested in beaches than ladies, I would suggest Nusa Lembongan, or Nusa Penida, beautiful islands an hour’s boat ride away. White sand, nice resorts, not too pricey. And I am sure you can get the bell hop to find you some companion, should you desire it.

When I was in Bali in early to mid December, the beach in Seminyak was disgusting. Sanur was much better, but the beaches in Sanur are so shallow that they are hard to enjoy swimming in. You could go out 50 meters and the water is still only 2 feet deep in many parts of Sanur.

By far the best beaches I saw were in Lombok - esp. Senggigi and the Gili Islands. Unfortunately, Lombok is a virtual wasteland for hobbying. At least Sanur has tons of hobbying available.

I prefer Bali to Lombok. There is nothing on Lombok which you cannot find on Bali. And the Muslim culture on Lombok makes the island very "quiet".

In Sanur you can swim quite well when high water and never when low water. Just check the tide table. Between low and high you can also swim..Sanur Beach Hotel beach is the best for swimming and sun bathing and as a tourist you can also use the big (2) pools in front of the hotel. They have also a big public beach in front of the hotel.
In Sanur you have also lots of available girls at prices much lower than in the Kuta area. Available 24 hours...

The rainy season and the prevailing wind from the west through the wet season. The Balinese up in the villages throw their trash in the rivers. The rains wash it down to the sea, the wind blows it back towards the beach.

The dead fish are allegedly a result of a toxic bloom in the water; others will tell you that they're the results of pair-trawlers jettisoning by-catch. Whatever the reason, it's really unpleasant, and once they decompose, the fish oil stays in the sand and gets stuck to your feet.

Once the west monsoon is over, usually March/April, right through to about November, the prevailing wind is from the east. Any shit in the water ends up on beaches in Java.

So in a month, give or take, and from then for five or six months, the Kuta side beaches will have clear, cool water, and no trash.

The bigest problem I can see in Bali is the polution issues that they just will not understand. They dump trash everywhere. It clogs the drainage system so that when the rains come areas that would not normally flood do so.

We pay a Bapat 55,000 a month to come and take away the garbage everyday. Thats cheap and I am sure we pay a higher rate being I am bule.
Than others or Balinese would.

Kuta is a shit hole, enjoy it if you please. And enjoy that fish dinner on Jimbaran beach, the fish are caught out at sea so they are ok..i think?

Tell me about it. Last time in Bali I noticed this smell in my hotel room that resembled of fish oil. After a day I realised it was from my running shoes which I had used for running on those beaches. The smell didn't go away even after I ran them through the washing machine.

Can anyone give me a shop or contact to get either the above vitamins, I searched the forum and somebody says ask the taxi drivers to take to the generic shop where you can get a pack of 4 for 150/180 rp, but the ones I have asked don't seem to know where to get them. I am in a bit of a rush to get them so if anybody can help that would be great.

You can get these bona fide western medications over the counter at any pharmacy (apotek) in a tourist area of Bali without a doctor consultation or prescription.

In my experience the Kimia Farma chain of apotik are the most reliable, knowledgeable and also the cheapest. Expect to pay about Rp150,000 per pill, which is much the same as in the west.

There are a variety of locally produced erection/libido enhancers available. They are a little harder (no pun intended) to purchase if you don't speak any bahasa.

Chinese drug stores, generally known as Toko Obat, have a variety of chinese herbal stuff. There is one in Jalan Gajah Madha in Denpasar called Jaya Abadi. The stuff to ask for is called Kochi. From memory it is Rp30,000 per capsule. Take one an hour before.

In almost every local(food/provisons) market there is a jammu shop. This sells a whole variety of different pills and potions for hickeys, dickeys and boils, etc etc. The product to ask for is Top Sex. Two caps in a foil packet for about Rp25,000.

In my opinion, and I have made something of a study, these are the most effective and the best value (and more effective than Viag, Cialis or Levitra). Rock hard and long lasting, still effective the next morning from the night before.

If you take two, you get some visual side effects, like freeze frame animation and sometimes a slight headache, which makes me think they actually contain viagra's active ingredient, since they had much the same effect on me.

The label is not much use, it just mentions some herbs and ginseng etc.

You find these jammu shops from their illuminated signs, which will say Sido Muncul, or Nonya Mynheer, or Air Mancur. Mostly they're open in the evenings, from about 5pm onward.

Out of all the places in SE Asia, I've only seen threads about these ridiculous prices in the Bali section. Why is it that prices have become so inflated in Bali, compared to Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, etc?

Are the dynamics different in Bali than the other places?
-Is there a smaller supply of girls?
-Are the tourists richer than other parts of SE Asia(I doubt it)?
-Are the mongers less experienced and can't bargain well?
-Are the girls smarter and greedier(i doubt it)?

My feelings on all this are yes the Japanese are pushing the price and hey in Bali there has always been the japanes price anyways where even the stall owner will charge double to a Japanese tourist. In saying that, there seem to be a lot more girls from jakarta here at the moment and they see westeners and japanese as walking atms, I think they are perhaps as 1Ball said quoting prices differently per customer and per alcohol consumption... I will test the waters tomorrow night and will approach some of the hotties and see where i get, I must admit though girls once here in bali do start getting greedy and always keep asking for more... Even my little one who in the beginning never asked for anything before, now in the past couple of months is now wanting shopping all the time.

Lets hope that is is just a byproduct of being greedy and soon they will realise that they cant get that sort of money all the time.

Welcome back Prof! I can’t help but remark on how many more posts have appeared since YOU reappeared.

I don’t normally involve myself in pricing discussions, but here goes. First, I agree that guys in Bali are probably less experienced – in Bali – than other places. I admit I am. I also agree that the asking prices have gone up in the past year or so. I hope that this note does give some useful advice to casual or inexperienced mongers and helps to keep Bali prices down.

Some history lessons. Yes, I am probably “inexperienced” in Bali. Prof, you verbally spanked me for overpaying at Kuta Bugar (or someplace) last year. My overpayment was in the 100k-200k, not in the juta range. Second, I posted about my experience with an in-house massage girl in Jakarta (great body) about a year ago who started out asking for $200. Yes, she did. I overpaid at $60, I know, but I plead extenuating circumstances. In the FR, I noted that I thought she was expecting a strike price at about US$100, and I’m medium good at judging such things. So she was disappointed and evidently “hits” at $100. Ouch!

So, I’m a soft touch but not an idiot.

My Bali experience is less than I wish it could be and I envy 1Ball and Prof their ability to speak Indonesian. (I’m working on that, BTW). But nobody speaks numbers and dollars better than me. No brag, just fact. And there’s NO WAY that anyone mongering in Bali should give in to the 1 million IDR (1 juta?) initial asking prices. I actually cannot conceive of 2 million.

IMHO, when you get to discussing price, she’s made up her mind that she will spend some time with you. Why destroy the mood by proving you are an idiot? Comments welcome.I have an earlier post about this. Yes, you can get a takeaway in one of two ways. You can get security at your hotel to bring a girl to you. If you are in a Sanur hotel, she will certainly come from one of the x houses, like 66x. You can get long-time this way for 500, although security will usually start asking for more. If you go to choose for yourself, the situation varies depending on the pimp running the house at the time. They will always want to know where you're taking the girl, and if the hotel is OK with this. Best to have greased the palm of hotel security first. Some pimps will insist on multiplying the per-hour rate by the number of hours you want, and will not budge. Others will be more flexible, for instance agreeing to 400 for 3 hours, and you may get a full overnight for 500. I'm not sure why it's easier to get the cheaper price by getting security to get the girl for you. You should also be aware that many of the girls will not be happy about an all-nighter, as they can earn more with multiple short-times. The house may not care so much, but the girl is looking at just one tip for the night. The more attractive x-house girls can turn over quite a few customers in a night, and they earn at least as much from tips as from the fee you pay the house. There are still many Indonesian men who take no longer than 10 minutes from go to woe. As the girls have told me, they just get the men up quickly, put on the condom, open their legs for a quick ride, and good-bye. Most Indonesian men still don't ask for oral or other kinds of play. Wham, bam, thank you mam. So if the girl is looking at being with you all night, getting maybe 200 from the house, and one tip from you, she may be eager to leave ASAP, and may let you know that, regardless of the prior arrangement. Because of this, it's important to make sure the girl knows and agrees to the arrangement before the deal is settled, and you will be wise to dangle the likelihood of a better tip.

One of the things I would like to hear about is the visitor status or occupancy percentage.
In Hawaii we are down to 62% which is an all time low. People are not
spending the money and many business's are closing.
If the visitors get thin then the prices of the comfort business, WG, will
of course drop.
If there are many WG's coming into Bali from JKT, then that would also
keep the price down.
Reports I get from my Wanita in there, are that it is very quiet, also that
business is slow and the Cargo Companies are empty.

Bali is not as cheap as in years gone by. My villa rent goes up each year for no real apparent reason other than greed. A sure sign that economics are different in Bali is that the Circle K in Seminyak is now charging for parking!

But still, one must not complain, I am still able to arrange a Sanur X- house girl for an overnight at 500, 000 all inclusive. One of the pimps will bring her to Seminyak by motorbike and drop her off. In the morning she makes a call for a pickup. This has been done many times and works smoothly. No hidden costs and hassles by the pimp. Seems the girls are still girls, and like a change every now and then.

NOYou are completely correct as far as general commodities go. Ie: furniture, stone flooring, Retail items. I buy that stuff.

But when you get to the human component, if you find more WG's in a club than customers, the price is very negotiable. These ladies have to eat and pay for the Kost. I have had all nighters for 150, 000 when tourism was down. Ecconmics be dammed when they are hungry. Nasi tiga rebu is a thing of the past.

an esteemed forum member used to live in a hotel for a while, and got a good deal. maybe he can chime in.there are many hotels that will do a deal for long term, but honestly that will cost you about 4 to 5 million per month. it is better to go a little further out to denpasar where there are a lot of good apartments with nearly all facilities. the harder thing will be the internet and that depends on what speed you are wanting and how much of a dedicated line you are after. i personally use a satelitte provider and get a fast speed (for bali) of 526kb that costs me 1.1 juta.

Traffic is so bad in Jakarta that there are guys that work the small intersections. They get out and stop traffic so that you can enter the insanity. And you need to pay them small money.

If you take a Taxi in Jakarta and he stops to pick you up or let you out and that small area belongs to a thug, you have to pay. Yes there are thugs controling spots that do not have parkir's and you still have to pay.

And hey the Parkir is only doing his job. I usually tell them. Won groko. And I don't take the ticket. (won groko. Money for smokes). Where coruption starts at the bottom of the chain.

can this devise only be purchased in denpasar?i think the down speed i get is 256 (that what number i see on the modem control panel so i am not sure, i am no computer whizkid). yes you just put the disc in and run set up and install it and just plug it into a usb, it works well in kuta where i am at the moment although it can get a bit slow at peak times of the day so i try use mine at night or 6 to 8 am. i am not sure if they sell them anywhere in area but the primo store in denpasar has many shops all pc related and i would think the cheapest place to buy a item like this. to put credit on it you just take the sim card out the modem and take to phone shop and ask them to top it up with amount you require.

amjeck, don't know where you spend your time, but there is a very good computer shop in seminyak, called bali vision computers, on jl legian, directly opposite a dry cleaners, called "5 a sec". it is right next to a hardware store, on the east side of the street. (non ocean side)they have a lot of the newer gadgets there, and can also get everything working properly. i think you can probably also pick something up at carrefour, though i don't know if the sales staff will be as knowledgable. don't have speed numbers, but it works well. faster than some internet shops. it might take a while to download movie clips, etc. but for every day work, a friend of mine swears by it. btw, more and more restaurants and bars affer free wi-fi. you can order a meal, and sit there for hours. chat cafe on the corner of sunset road anf jl kunti is always full of people with their laptops.

bali vision is also very good at fixing computer problems, upgrades, etc. tell them 1ball sent you.

ps. no tukang parkir in front of the shop either.

You make a very valid point Robert long. Of course, Jakarta is not Bali. (I try to not go to Jkt much). And you use a perfect word in your post. THUGS. Which is indeed what some, or most of these guys are. In many instances, they just show up one day in an area people have been parking for free for years, with their little orange vest and a whistle. Some may have no affiliation at all with the banjar. The fact that some idiot cretin who is a long time Bali resident flips them a bill every time they come scurrying along only exacerbates the problem. Probably trying to impress the new little “istri kampung".

Some of these guys don’t have any ticket, or coupon to give out, and put their money directly into their pocket. Nothing wrong in refusing the ticket, and saying “uang rokok” to them, but is your choice to do, not an imposition. I see many locals not pay. Some people choose to pay, some choose not to. Some forum members should remember that one man's ceiling is another man's floor.

Believe me, when they see the “big ugly bule” with his wife young enough to be his daughter, or actually even his grand daughter, they chuckle with disdain, when he hands them a bill. And IF in fact, they do work for the banjar, what percentage of their winnings do you actually think they hand over? Not a bad job for them, for the second most corrupt country in the world. I often wonder how much it cost for them to get this job. I know the polisi pay a small fortune to secure their job in a good lokasi. Some wife of a local cop a few years ago, admitted she spends 2 hours every night, ironing the crumpled bills the cop took off some poor local sap, who had the misfortune to stop at the lampu merah 30 cm past the white line.

I have no problem paying for a service, as long as there is actually a service, no matter how small. However, I have never found the “tukang parkir” are able to do much, as my bike is too big for them, and they are afraid to touch it. I mean, all I ever see them do is run up to me with their hand extended as I get ready to leave. And by the way, contrary to what some dickwad might say, the fee, even tough it may have been set by the local council, varies from 1,000 to 500 to even 100, depending on how much change the person may have on them at the time..

For me, it is not about the 8 cents; it’s the idea to have to pay to park for 2 minutes while I walk into Circle K to buy a bottle of water, or pay to walk into a restaurant to spend money. I spend my money inside, not outside.

I had a massage a few months ago in the massage salon just to the right of the lane leading down to 66X. The massage itself was not very good and the place was very noisy, but she offered a free HJ afterwards, so I ended up with a relaxing experience and payed the 50 k for the massage plus the same in tips for her, so I can't complain.

But if the place you know is different, perhaps I could get a nice massage there too as a bonus. .

Yes. As you know everything is possible. Some are repeats and they are a GFE. If you know the Sanur girls you know what is possible. I choose not to take them out for drinks as that is not why I call them. But I'm sure that you can do what you wish with them.

Followup to my report a few days ago.

I was in Bali recently so headed to the Nodjy Salon. Thanks to whoever gave the directions. They were useful as there is no clear sign. The darkened windows is a big give away though. Goldmember, Tulamben is strictly BYO, I have never seen any mongering location, or any place where you might pick up a girl.
If you do 3 dives during the day, and a night dive, you may find yourself hitting the hay fairly early anyway. If you really want a girl for company, may I suggest you bring a girl from Kuta with you.

If you do hit Tulamben, I know an excellent guide, who knows the wreck like the back of his hand, and will take you out there for 5$ a fill, and 10$ per guided dive, plus a tip. Excellent english. PM me for details.

Tulamben has nice wreck diving. Amed, very close, nice wall diving. Are you staying over night there? Bring a good book. Nothing to do in the evenings. Why not stay in Sanur? The best diving on Bali outside Sanur around the island Nusa Lembongan.
And back in Sanur, by boat, lots of beautiful girls wait for you - much better than in the Kuta area.
I shall be there too, April 16-28.

Next time I will rent a scooter.

Spent one night there, if I remember right for around 100k. Not much to do at night, the internet cafe across the road sucks (very slow dialup connection) and closes early. One night there is enough, but the place is worth it.

Do the wreck dive very very early before the crowds get out. I booked two dives from Matahari including gear. The second dive in the afternoon was very boring. I would possibly do the wreck for a second time at night.

In Sanur I can recommend www.crystal-divers.com The owner is a Danish lady. They are extremely friendly and helpful. I don't remember clearly, but I believe she was the one to point me to the Tulamben Matahari resort.

crystal divers is probably ok. very important is that they have a speed boat out to nusa lembongan. sanur is very nice. nice restaurants along the beach, good swimming (if high water) and nice girls 24 hours a day. 20 minutes to the kuta area if you wish and 45 minutes to ubud.
i will be back there april 15 again (next week thanks god).
from sanur and east, they now have a highway so you can very easily go to padang bay for good snorkelling, food etc.

For TV's it depends on what size and what brands you are talking about... I personally get most of my electrical good from an electric store opposite Super Nova in Kuta, you can bargain with them as well so dont go with the first price.
You can't misss the place they have big screen TVs in the entrance to the shop. Over the years I have bought quite a few things there and they always come in cheaper than Carrefour or others and they deliver and set up free.

Finally I got to go into Kuta to have a look around and see whats happening, I didnt get there until about 12.30 as i knew it would be quiet until then.

Having a look around there are certainly a lot of WG's around and all looking hungry...

I saw a group of girls who used to live with an ex of mine and started talking to them, I asked them what the going price is as I had heard many expensive reports, and all of the girls told me the price was 500.000 rp to 600.000 rp because "quote" Global warming is making it so no-one has money now so we know must keep lower price... I didnt have the heart to correct her.

Visited kuta timur today and picked Ema who is noticable by her pretty oval eyes.I was charged 150000 for the massage and 150000 again for the room.Reading other reports i was overcharged 50000 for the massage.
