Hey Guys, Arrived last night and this Indian girl by name Suman was in the airport to receive me with a placard which had my name on it. She took me to a guest house pretty close to the airport. Batam FR Day 1
Getting to Batam via Johor at Setualang Laut Ferry Terminal. One way ticket will cost you RM50+RM6 port tax or return ticket for RM80 + RM6 port tax. I would recommend return cause if you were to buy a one way ticket at Batam it will cost Rp135,000. Currently the exchange rate for RM1 = Rp2,150. It takes about 1 hour 30 min ride to Batam Centre Port. The old Batu Ampar port was demolished.
I stayed in Oasis Hotel which cost about Rp225,000 which is consider expensive. Anyway went hunting with my friend. The taxi driver showed us a few places eg. Rio Rita, Dynasty, Sensasi, Femina. They are all fish tank like premises and only offer locals indo chicks. Finally I pick up a chick from Dynasty cause she was all over me the moment I step in. Paid the mamasan Rp260,000 and should have been Rp230,000 if you can alone without the taxi driver. The price seems to be more expensive now compare to the last time which is only Rp180,000

Island View hotel is ideal if you are going to spend your time int he disco until 6am anyway.
BUT if you plan to sleep in the early hours, forget, becuase of the noise coming from Planet Disco next door.
Other problem is that you need to take a taxi or ojek to the main entertainment area - unsafe to walk - expecially at night.
I wouldn't stay there again. For the same money, try the Hotel Puri Garden or Formosa.
For a bit more, try the Hotel Goodway (ex Mandarin). The best hotel in town is still the Melia Panorama, which costs Sin$85 (USD46) if you book through Jansen (jansen at nedbatam.com).
If you are staying for a few days, I like the Hotel Sahid Rashinta becuase it has nice Bali garden style grounds and big pool. See www.gobatam.hypermart.net for some photos.

Day 1
Got my Batam hotel 25 hours after leaving the US. Couldn't sleep on the plane and only slept 2 hours the night before I left. I should have been exhaused, but I was not. It was 6:00 pm and the bars just seemed much more fun then sleep.

I had written a great day 2 trip report, but a black-out right at the end made me lose everything. Turned out that there was another brothel right next door to my hotel as well. Absolutely no indication from the outside that it is a brothel, you just have to know (I read a report on some internet site). At the left of the hotel, there is an alleyway and you will see a concrete staircase going up to the second floor. Go up the staircase and you will find a brothel with about 15 girls available for short or long time. I almost went back down the stairs as I thought the post was a gag, but a guy quickly came out and said "come in sir", and I knew that I was in the right place. I can now answer my own question about going to Batam during the Hari Raya period - definitely not a good idea. Lots of places were close and those that were open were very low on girls - especially attractive ones!
Best place I found was PP Banana where I was virtually the only man. The girls were good but not outstanding. The 'massage' places near Centre Point were almost deserted and I couldn't find any of the discos such as Ozone, which I have read posts about.
Now I have to decide whether to try Nagoya again or give it a pass in favour of Tanjung Pinang or Tanjung Ballai - maybe later this month. Any advice very welcome.

A few weeks ago, me and two of my buddies (SexCuore and Deeno Magneto) from Malaysia went on a fact-finding mission to Batam, Indonesia. This is a report on what we have found out.
We drove to Johor Baru from KL (a 3 ½ hour drive under torrential rain) and took the 90-minute ferry ride from Stulang Laut ferry terminal to Batam City Center.
For those who are considering making the same trip, ferry times are 08.40, 11.10, 13.40, 14.30, 17.00, 17.40 and 18.00. Ferry costs MYR 80 for a return ticket (about USD 20). The ferry terminal is located inside the Duty Free Zone and there are plenty of restaurants and duty free shopping is available.
Ferries also operate out of Singapore as well.
Upon arrival at Batam City Center, there are plenty of aggressive taxi touts who are waiting at the gate outside immigration and customs control. Just walk by the first row of the most aggressive and you will find the less expensive taxi drivers standing in the back. Taxi ride to the Nagoya town center costs IDR 25,000 (USD 4).
As this was our first time in Batam, we had opted to stay at the Melia, which was supposed to be the flashiest hotel in town. The cost is SGD 80 per night (USD40). Breakfast was included. However, cheaper options do exist. Goodway, and Planet Holiday are also located centrally and only cost about USD 25-30 a night.
We have visited a number of bars/pubs on our first night. We started out with STEPS. The place has a nice western restaurant upstairs. The food is quite OK with reasonable price. But the downstairs pub gets going after 10 PM when the live music kicks off. (I always find Indonesian bands quite talented.) The monger: girl ratio is around 1:2. But almost all the good ones come attached to the resident expats. But STEPS is a nice place to have a few cold beers.
LUCY’S OAR HOUSE is a centrally located meeting place. The good thing about this place is that resident manager, Marcel (marcel@nedbatam.com) is available to show you around the place and can arrange you whatever you want. He is great. The beers are cold and the bar grub is tasty.
Upstairs of Lucy’s is Batam’s one and only gogo/lap dance joint PP Banana’s. This place is a smaller version of a typical Bangkok joint. Has a small stage and plenty of seats. While we were there, there were 4 girls available (2 were doable). We had a great time while partying there and even danced on stage. I picked up a petite girl there and one of my mates picked up the other. Long time price (until morning) was IDR 300,000 (less than USD40). With the two girls on tow, we continued bar hopping.
Next port of call was JUNGLE. That place was like Jurassic park. It didn’t take long to finish our beers there.
We also visited ICE PUB and STEPS again but didn’t do much besides having beers.
We headed off to PACIFIC disco as our mission was to find a companion for the last alone member of our troika. This place is huge and packed with local talent. Admission fee was IDR 30,000 in lieu of your first drink. The music was techno and a bit too loud which was not so enjoyable. Not to mention, it was damn dark. If you are going to Pacific for hunting purposes, bring a flashlight to see properly the goods on offer. As DM and I already had found what we were looking for (or at least that was what I had thought at that stage-more on that coming), SC went on the prowl while we enjoyed our drinks. He later told me that once he eyed what he liked, he dragged the poor girl out to light in order to make sure before he struck his deal.
Anyway, we all headed home for some winding down with some single malt before retiring to our individual rooms for some well deserved horizontal gymnastics.
However, as soon as my mates disappear, my petite girl (whose name I have forgotten) went bananas. She started scratching my back, my face while I was trying to foreplay. Geez. I am kind of wild but not that much. I decide to take her back after she starts shouting and makes a scene. This time I went to the bar, which was a bit more light. I made eye contact with another gal and immediately struck a deal for another IDR 300k.
Nothing spectacular about the sex and I fell asleep. When I woke up in the morning about 8, I realize that the girl is gone and the first thing that comes to my mind is “SHIT! MY WALLET!”.
Although I am always extra careful about my belongings, I fail to put back my wallet back to the safe after all that hassle in the night for the first time in my life and she empties all my money. Good news is my credit cards are untouched. I can’t explain how lousy I felt that morning.
But luckily, my pal DM was wise enough to bring some extra cash with him and he was kind enough to lend me that.
Well, that is all I have to say about that.
Unless you are a golfer, there is absolutely nothing to do in Batam during daytime except for having massage and waiting for bars to open up.
After walking around the town for an hour or so, we decided to have a massage at SPORTS MASSAGE across from the Harmoni Hotel. 90-minute massage session was IDR 75,000 (USD9). But the problem was, massage girls had no clue what they were doing. Not only I didn’t enjoy the massage but my back ached for the next two days after the girl walked on it with all her extra weight.
After the massage, we decide to check out a fish tank pick-up place called HOLLYWOOD. There were about 25 girls in the fish tank but none was to our taste. So we decided to pass. Price was again IDR 300,000 until next morning.
We had a late lunch at a place called KELAPA GADING. The restaurant is entirely made up of bamboo and rattan. Quite original and the local food were delicious. I especially loved the SOTO AYAM (chicken soup) and deep fried fish.
Later in the afternoon, we decide another fish tank pick up joint called PERMAI massage. This place had about 10 girls available. But the highlight was the Chinese papas an with long hair. He was one of those funny guys who ought to be on his own TV show. My two friends had a blast talking to him. Anyway, I quickly made up my mind and picked up a youngish plumb girl. My two joker friends decide that they will pick girls for one another and guess what they pick the oldest and ugliest of the bunch just to screw each other. Short time cost for an hour was USD 160,000 (USD 20). Although not the prettiest girl I have seen on the island, this girl was the best bonk I had the whole trip.
For dinner, we all had a nice tasty Chinese steamboat. The topic of the evening was weird Chinese dishes. All I can say about some delicacies I have heard for the first time, was that they were not that appetizing.
After dinner, we started off at RED COCK pub again at Nagoya. This place is a clean watering hole for the resident expat crowd. After a couple of drinks, we wanted to see what was available at STEPS. The most striking girl was the singer of the band with a sexy dance routine. There must have been 4 or 5 birthday people there that night. Every other song they were playing was “Happy Birthday to UUUUU”.
After STEPS, we headed out to SPHINX disco at Hotel Seruni. There was no cover charge, which surprised me a bit for a Saturday evening. We went in and ordered our first drinks and soon enough we figured out why there was no cover charge. The bill for 3 scotch was IDR 190k!!!!! Highway robbery. Sphinx like Pacific disco was as dark as it can possibly be. After an hour or so, we decided that the stock available at Pacific was much better and headed off there.
Indeed some of the girls at Pacific were much better looking but they were all taken up by our Singaporean friends who come to Batam every weekend for fun. Just when we were giving up, SC spots his girl from the previous night and introduces us to her mamas an who hooks us up with her girls. Asking price was IDR 500k for the night (due to high demand on weekends by Singaporeans) but negotiated down to IDR 300k.
We went back to the hotel and enjoyed some midnight snacks altogether and parted for our rooms. It turns out my girl was very shy and new to the scene. Let me tell you that the night was not that much pleasant. IMHO, there must be a balance with freshness and experience for optimum fun.
Anyway, next day was our last and after breakfast, we finished the trip off with another 90-minute massage at PAS Massage Center before taking our ferry back to Stulang Laut. The massage was much better compared to Sports Massage Center but still not as good as their Thai counterparts.
The return trip was uneventful and I was knackered by the time we reached back in KL.
Overall, Batam is OK but drinks, and food are not that cheap. The girl quality is not like Bangkok or Jakarta. But getting there is much easier and cheaper from Malaysia or Singapore. Verdict is if you are already living close to Batam, the place is worth paying a visit once a while but for outsiders, going to Bangkok or Jakarta is much more pleasant.

I had a free evening in Singapore and got the 6pm ferry to Batam City Centre from the World Trade Centre. Got a cab to the Oar House for a beer and then jumped on the back of a motor-taxi to see the sights.
Not a lot to see except dust and a few obvious brothels that looked pretty skanky to me. But, the nightclub opposite the Hotel Cintra was as good as my last time over 10years ago.
Just an empty bar with 30 girls lined upon a sofa -- take your pick. Got a really cute one with a nice dress and shoes on and a pretty face. She looked pleased I'd picked her when she came over, which always makes things easier.

for westerners is $25.00U.S. This would include countries from Europe, U.S. and Australia.
It is best to have U.S. money or you are going to have to exchange money there and the rate is not that great.

Its not quite as good as Batam. Thsere is some disco and massage action in town but there is also a village 24km out in the centre of the island. It use to quite famous but it seem to have gone down hill from what I have been reading on other groups.
It can be a little slow during the week and I don't think the quality of companion is quite as good as Batam, but the quality of accomidation is better (and more expensive, beach resort style). If your looking for more of a holiday destination it may well suite you.
Do a Google search on both the island and town to see what you can find.

Just a quick report on my recent first visit to Batam.
Prior to arriving had corresponded with Bushranger an ex-pat fellow Australian.
His advice and the multitude of advice available on this site were invaluable.
After arriving at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon I checked into the Melia hotel for my 3 night stand. Room?s excellent quality I thought so I showered and got ready to play for the night.
Bushranger had advised me to head initially to Lucy's for a beer or 2 and to call him from there and he would come meet me. I duly did this and he arrived and introduced me to quite a few other ex-pats over the course of that evening and indeed the entirety of my stay.
Sitting in the bar that afternoon I noticed a stunning little thing hanging around one of the ex-pats and inquired as to who she was. It was one of the PP Banana girls who works in the lap dance bar directly above Lucy's - no I am thinking I am right at home here.
One of the guys I met in Lucy's was actually the GM of the Melia Hotel - Emmett - what a legend you are. All the major Indonesan islands south of Singapore are ***** joints. The majority of the people you see there are not natives of the island. They come from all over Indonesia. IMHO, Batam is over-rated. It is over-priced and it's appeal has waned over the years. There is no dispute over it's close proximity to Singapore but due to this accessibility, lots of Singaporeans come over and spend their dollars indiscriminately and as such, things have become more pricey and the service you would get leaves much to be desired.
This phenomenon is evident and we, respectable hobbyists, end up getting the bad end of a deal. This forum is useful so that novices are able to get a little education on hobbying and thus, protect the majority from the effects of his (or her) reckless actions.
If I may suggest, try Tanjung Balai Karimun instead. In terms of the time taken on the journey from Singapore, it takes longer to get there than Batam. This makes it less attractive to most.
But behold! The prices are more fair, the service is much better. If you are into full-fledged, no holds barred bonking, this is the place to be as there are very few entertainment outlets which would take your fancy. Thus, you bring the girl back to your room and bonk like rabbits!
Plus, the ferry terminal is walking distance to the main town area. Finding a hotel is easy. For about 200k RP, I stayed at a larger room with a mini-fridge and TV that showed porn on one of its channels. Compare this to a rundown motel in Batam for the same price.
All the chicks are found at a place called the Villa, about 10 - 15 minute away from the town area. Prices for the chicks range from 200K to 350K. You can take them out from 12 noon today and they will leave at 9 - 10 am the next day. You can bonk as many times as you wish.
To save some money, instead of getting a guide and use his services, tell him that you want to take a ride to the Villa and back and it will cost you 20K tops! Once you get there, take your time and check out what is being displayed. If you see something you fancy, speak to the pimp and he will quote you a price. Always negotiate and bargain, Counter with a price about 50K - 100K less and work from there. If a deal is made, pay the pimp immediately. He will then ask you the hotel and room number you are staying. The chick will get to wherever you are on her own so down worry. Arrange the time of arrival for the chick in such a way that you can get things done ie: have a meal, go for a massage. Leave the villa with the guide you came with and that's it.
Given my experience, there is less hassle, the chicks you see are clearer as the houses they are at are better lit than the KTVs in Batam and the price is fair.

It's a pretty big stretch for ANYONE to claim that Batam is overpriced. The fees in the fishbowl booking joint places range from 120K rupiah on-site short times to 300K for all-nighters from the higher end places and go gos. Of course you have to be able to find these places and convince them that you didn't come with a guide or a taxi driver, which sometimes isn't easy, as the taxi drivers are true lowlifes with nothing better to do than follow you around if they suspect you're headed into a KTV place that pays commissions.
The booking joints are NOT high profile or particularly easy to find for the first time visitor if you don't have an experienced guide, but there are plenty of them, and even if you pay 5-10 bucks extra commission the first time you go there, that doesn't mean you can't go back the next day on your own.
There are indeed decent hotel options in Batam at reasonable prices ($25-50 U.S.) and they are neither rundown or far from the action.
And the disco freelancer scene in Batam is certainly available every night of the week if you have bad luck at the booking joints. Short time fees start at 150-200K, all-nighters should be easily arranged for 250K. Some of the ecstasy loaded disco girls screw like animals and are likely to be much more sexually experienced and skilled than some of the younger girls in the booking joints, who can be HORRIBLE lays.
I would say that people that knock Batam probably didn't really know what they were doing while they were there. I had some horrible luck there during my 10 days in June, but also had some of the hottest girls I've ever had in my LIFE and had a GREAT time on less than 1 million rupiah per day, all-inclusive.

This place has a lot of castas (house where there are girls to be bought) living and working in pretty disgusting conditions-- sleeping in a clean hotel should be a refreshing change for them .
I went to Batan two times.

Some information regarding questions on Tanjung Pinang and Balai. I went to Balai in early 2002. Prices and things may have changed by now. In the Balai town, there is plenty of good hotels for reasonable prices along Jalan Nusantara. Never pick the choice of the taxi drivers for hotel. Get your own choice or get "ojeks" (motorcycle taxis) to take you to a hotel and he may also bring you to the right light area (plenty of houses) with a least 15-20 girls inside.
Some girls may approach you, and I strongly advise that you pick a girl who approaches you. She will be more willing to give a you a good service than the hot looking ones. A sweet looking girl is anytime better than a hot babe or an 8.0 will give you more satisfaction than 9.5 hot b****. Condoms are optional, always remember to bring your own before you board your ferry. 2. By ferry from Malaysia. JOHORE BAHRU the ferry is near the famous EDEN HOTEL. You cant miss it. It takes about 3 hrs to reach Tanjong Pinang.
3. By ferry from Indonesia BATAM at a place cal PONGGOL It takes 1 hr to reach Tanjong Pinang.
Before coming to Tanjong pinang is best to contact the hotel representative to meet you up at the terminal this way you can get rid of the hustlers waiting for you like a hawk.

Batam scene is not great. There are many MPs like Queens etc. Current rates are S$50 for LT. Again, using a hotel taxi may be smarter but I used the Ojeks allot and had no major problems.
In the brothel village there was no English. Negotiations were done by holding up fingers. Additionally no mater how hard I tried to say "km24" in correct Indonesian language the Ojek driver could not understand me (my pronunciation was obviously to far off). I finally wrote "km24" on a piece of paper. Several Ojek drivers held a conference with the note and finally figured out where I wanted to go and off I went. All Ojeks can easily find their way back to Rainbow Palangi hotel.
There is supposed to be a smaller brothel village at km16 as well. Never made it there yet.

Other than bintan island there is another 2 islands for nice fun.
The first one, the island is call KARIMUN and the town is call BALAI.
The second one the island is call KUNDUN and the town is call BATU.

Nothing new in Batam. The same joints. I don't know of any new ones. The one I go to is call Harmony, which is opposite the Hotel Melia and Lucy Oar. Anyway, you need transport to get to some of the places. Take the ojak (meaning motor cycle). They will take you around. Had a forced one-day stopover in Singapore but surprisingly could not find any hotels on arrival given multiple conventions in town. So decided to head to Batam just south. Found a good package deal including at the ferry desk in the World Trade Centre. Arrived at the Novotel by noon too tired to go out immediately. Called up the massage service but it only sent a middle-aged woman who had a cough I did not want to get, so sent her off soon and had a nap.
In the evening went for a walkaround. Saw some massage parlours but the girls seated in the lobby giggled a lot when I asked the mamasan whether one could select the masseur and if there was any other services - which was denied, though suspect HJ is available for a tip. Was taken by a hotel security guard to a house behind the Horizona Hotel in town that had girls staying who were sent out on-call to hotels. Seeing them in those poor conditions, many napping on the floor in their shared rooms, and pushy pimps was a turn off. Met a girl at a shopping centre who gave me 'the eye' but she was more keen to go to the disco first. Motorcycle 'taxi-drivers' were a real pain in hassling to take you to 'find girls' - I prefer to do my own hunting.
After dinner came across PP Banana with about 10 girls but only the occasional girl dancing dressed on the 'stage'. Saw a quite attractive girl but she was available for only ST upstairs. Noticed another plainer girl massaging a white guy sitting at the bar and thought he was her regular. But an Indon guy who said he was a part-owner of the pub and that he was also his partner. He called the girl over and I decided to go with her for Rp300,000 overnight (US$30), rather than just Rp200,000 ST.
Took her back to the Novotel where the doormen and bell-boys gave sneering smiles. When we got to the room and her kit was off, discovered that she had managed to hide a post-baby tummy quite well till then. So did her mostly doggie style both twice before and once after sleep. Overall performance - including massage and cbj lacking enthusiasm. She also snored a bit, which did not help. In between our sessions she kept telling me a sob story about having two kids, having lost a job at a factory in a neighbouring country, being deserted by a husband of the same race than I, etc. Was it all true or was it to get sympathy because before she left she asked for a larger tip than I had decided on? Not a great experience but one that was an unplanned bonus.

i quite enjoyed my night on batam. stayed at the asean hotel (now, agreed that is a dump) and picked up marla from maxims (19 year old, good face, and small **** like body). took her to ice bar (good music and an ok bar), then to hotel for a good round of mutually enjoyable fucking. she was hesistant at first about 'having ice cream' (bbbj) but then seemed unable to get enough. withdrew and came all over her arse hole from behind, which she liked.

I would suggest that the hotel Panorama Regency (PR) is a much better bet than the Novotel, if you are looking to stay in better class digs. The doormen are better trained for a start and the hotel is within walking distance of the action. The rooms are bigger and if you dont like the hotel food, it is only a 5 minute walk to many places that have very good food, such as Bistro, Lucys Oarhouse and Red Cock.

The PR also has a good enough pool and gym that is little used during the days. I like to have pools and gyms to myself.
I also like to have a bar full of friendly young girls to myself too. Some reporters say "when we got to the PP Banana, the place was dead, so we left." When I visit a place Banana, I always HOPE there are no other customers, so I can have a room full of girls to myself. Of course, you have go in a mood ready to party and have a good time. But bargirls are party girls. That's why they do that kind of work. So unless you have the personality of dead mullet, it is usually not that hard to get some kind of fun going in a bar full of bargirls. YMMV.

A pub tip: if you are not sure whether the person you are starting the conversation with is going to be a bore or not, make sure you get your drink and PAY for it. If the conversation turns out to be a bore, simply pretend to answer your mobile phone, starting talking into it and step out the door while still talking .. and keep walking right down the strip and into another pub. Easy.
There is nothing worse than a pub bore.
However, I find that the pub goers of Batam are actually one of it's advantages, as most of them are well travelled and they work in interesting jobs in interesting parts of the world. You dont find so many Jeurgen from Europe or Bruce from Wagga Wagga on holidays, as you do in Thailand.
If you dont like tourist towns, then Batam's lack of tourists is one of it's best advantages.
The disadvantage to this is that modern facilties e.g. ATM machines and internet cafes, are not always easy to find. That doens't mean that they do not exist, just that they are not located in some main tourist strip, illuminated with neon signs.
True Batam is not for eveybody. That is why a thousand times more tourists visit Thailand than will ever visit Batam.
Since Tanjung Batu is part of Riau island, I hope bros won't mind me posting this report in Batam section. I made this trip on 18 February.
Saying goes that dirty old men from Singapore go to Tanjong Batu(Kundun island) for fun. I am not old, but thought what the heck, will try. Saturday morning, went to harbor center ferry terminal, to Indo-Falcon counter. They sell 2d1N package to Batu, weekend rate is S$64, include roundtrip ferry, 1 night hotel with breakfast, jetty-hotel-jetty transfer. My language skill is zero, so thought better to buy package. Ferry leave at 8:10am, reach batu in 2 hours. Noted all the fellow passengers are in their late fifty’s.
Now, Batu is a really backward place. At ferry terminal, 1man meet us and take us to the Hotel Taman Gembira by a minivan. Hotel took my passport and return ferry ticket to reconfirm. In less than 1 hour, I see all these pretty young girls arriving by motorcycle. These old guys in the ferry either have their regulars or went straight to brothel village to get girls after dropping their luggage.
Anyway, I walk out and ask the hotel security, where to find CEWEK which is girls in Indonesian language. My pronunciation might have been different, after several try he understood what I meant and called a ojek guy (motor cycle taxi) to take me to the brothel. Ojek man asked for (?)Rp2000.It os only 2-3 minutes ride from the hotel. At the entrance of the village, you pay Rp2000 toll, tax money for police. Then row of houses on both side of the road, about 40 houses in total. Each house had 5-15 girls of all size and shape. I chose a cute 18 year old, who just joined the trade. Usual cost is Rp200,000-250,000 but since this girl is new, mamsan demanded Rp350,000. I had to negotiate by writing the amount on a peace of paper since I can’t speak the lingo. Anyway, settled for Rp300,000=S$60 for whole night.
Girl arrived shortly to hotel. Had one bonk and then she went to sleep. Woke up in afternoon and won’t let me bonk again, say pain pain. Declined BJ, even covered one. Anyway, her punishment was to walk back to brothel, about1 kilometer from the hotel. Due to language difficulty, I did not bother to go back and argue with Mamasan.
Had a good swim at the hotel pool, had a pretty good Massage at the hotel massage center for Rp80,00 for 1 hour. There is a very good chance to get extra but I did not try. Had some seafood for dinner and went to bed.
In the morning, the buffet breakfast was a joke, but what you expect for S$20/night hotel? Got another massage in the morning, and then went to Jetty by taxi to catch my ferry back to civilization.
My next target is to try Tanjung Balai and Tanjung Pinang, but will have to work on the lingo.

Firstly, I am confused - you are attending a convention at Nongsa Point Marina, but you can stay elsewhere?
In that case, the answer is easy. Stay in Nagoya and commute 40 min by car to the convention and back each day.
In the case you happen to be stuck in a Nongsa hotel, then you are best to take a car to Nagoya town, choose a girl from one of the karoake fish tank joints and bring her back to your hotel. Make sure you give the girl enough taxi money to get back to Nagoya in the morning.
The problem with this seond choice may be that you dont want your convention mates to see you with a girl - particularly if it is a gay bible convention, which doesn't not approve of men and women enjoying each other's company.
There are no easily available women in Nongsa. There are plenty in Nagoya.

Was in Batam Center a few weeks back and spent around 4 to 5 hours looking for cewek. Quantity was there but not quality. What few so called quality was available, it was not up to my mark.
Guess i have to lower my expectations after my recent trips to Macau and China. Went many establishments ranging from the places mentioned here to a few that were recommended by those taxi drivers.
It was certainly an adventure venturing into those places especially when the sky was getting dark. Luckily i had a private driver who was very patient and helpful.
Found nothing, so opted to go for massage instead. then went for an inexpensive dinner and flirted with the beer girls. Had a few drinks, met up with a couple of friends and then we headed for some drinks in a local KTV. Not many cewek left but was there just for drinks.
We then decided to check out Pacific and there were certainly a lot of people. Funny thing was, the cewek that we had seen earlier in the day, were there with their customers, what a small town indeed.
Quite a number of FLs available but some of them quoted 500K who we thought were just at most 300K quality. So, dismiss them. However, there were exceptions, where there were a couple of fair looking ones (chinese Indon, i think), but unfortunately, one of them didn't want to go with my friend, so me and my friend decided not to proceed, since we always hunt together. No fun hunting alone.
Went back to hotel, got another massage the following day, and headed back to SG. Note, i know it has been said before, but ensure that you either have a regular cewek there else, don waste time going on a saturday trying to look for long time quality cewek unless of course u want FLs which you can only get late at night in the discos.

Was feeling in a celebratory mood, so decided to go over to Batam for the weekend and taking into consideration of the public holiday in Lion City.
Went there on Friday evening, had some seafood dinner, decided to check out some KTV joints for cewek but knew that there weren't going to be any worthy cewek available.
Checked into hotel, rested, waited for time to go to Pacific. Place was not packed as usual (as in no place to walk), but still quite a number of patrons. Just back to reality (i.e. work) after a couple of week's rest and relaxation in Bangkok and Batam.
After a month in darkest driest Africa, nothing like stepping off the plane in Sunny (and rainy) Bangkok, where even the airport staff have a friendly smile. The city had shut down to celbrate the King's 60th anniversary AND World Cup soccer.
After a couple of enjoyable days boozing in Soi Nana, on a plane and down to BATAM via the grim faces at Singapore Changi airport.
Got through that as fast as possible then on a boat to BATAM CENTER - got the HOTEL GOODWAY for a good prices from the KAHA HOTEL BOOKING counter at the ferry terminal - only Rp220,000/night.
A couple of welcome beers with Kenneth at the Goodway Wine bar and a great steak dinner at the adjoining GOODWAY GRILL, then over to the bars in the NED - Nagoya Entertainment Disctrict for a few beers and to find any old friends.
No old friends, but quickly made plenty of new ones .. including a beauty upstairs at PP Banana, where you can find some of the nicest and most polite girls in any bar in Asia (if yuou are nice to them).
Met a girl at Bananas, new since myh last visit - Lena, who I stayed with for nearly a week. I must be getting old.
Also new was the SMILING HILLS club, about 10 minutes out of town - great food, good rooms and friendly helpful guys staying there.

For those who are looking for a cheap place with good Chinese seafood and lots of girls, Tj Balai is a good bet.
After two days in enjoying the eye candy in Bangkok's shopping centers, I thought that maybe Batam would be rather "tame".
For an old fart like me, I just love those friendly Thai women. Even some of the youngest and prettiest Thai woman are approachable and some times the odd one will even "come to room" if you smile nicely enough (and make them laugh a little).
But Bangkok's bargirls are a hardened lot and I got much better mileage from the bunch in PP Banana.
Some of the guys from Singapore said that the Banana girls are snobbish towards Asian guys, but I never seem to have any problems.
The ones in Bangkok expect me to speak Thai (which I can't). Though Indonesian girls seem to be more adpet at spotting that I am not a local.

Where is the best place in Batam for shopping Centre "hunting"? Always make it a point to use the up-escalator at Centrepoint and Robinsons. Watch for eye contact with girls having coffee as you reach the next floor.

McDonalds at Centrepoint is also a good spot. If you happen to see some girls sitting there and there is an empty table next to them, you can sit and make a conversation (and pass quietly your hotel card / cell number without a lot of local men staring at you.)

This Tuesday morning (June 27), I decided to go to Balai. Bought a roundtrip ferry ticket from harbor front ferry terminal of Singapore, cost S$43. Rate of the hotel, studio S$28, double rooms$38, and suite S$48 for weekdays, breakfast included. They probably charge slightly more for the weekend. Don’t take room on 6th floor, difficult to sleep as music from the pub on 7th floor will bug you.
I took a studio. Then took hotel taxi to Villa (pronounced as Pilla) to get girl. Asked the receptionist, how much to pay for hotel taxi, she said ‘up to you’. When asked for a ball park figure, she said, ‘R10,000 or R20,000’. Anyway, got an aircon SUV to Villa. Quite a few bungalows with girls. If you are used to Thailand or the Philippines, prepare for something completely different.
It was a 48 hour trip and perhaps not a sufficient amount of time to give a full assessment of the place, but we were happy to head for Singapore and the plane to AC after two days.
We saw about 6-7 fish bowls and there were few cute girls to choose from. Most of the girls (and what appeared to be their mothers and aunts) had permanent scowls on their faces. The mamasans were quick to discount to a "no taxi rate" but there was not much to pick from so pricing was not an issue.
We spent a chunk of time in Lucy's Oar House and PP Bananas and talked a bit with the owner. He was a nice guy and took us to some of the Nagoya area fishbowls on a walking tour. We ended up back at PP Bananas and took a couple of satisfactory performers from there.
The malls were pretty empty, even though it was Friday and Saturday and the new mall was pretty much unfinished. Center Point was the best of the bunch, but nothing like what a mall in Manila or Bangkok would have available.
Some of the Indo girls in the malls and on the streets were pretty attractive, and I understand that there is one mall in the middle of the island where girls from the electronics factories can be had at shift change. That might be worth checking out, but on the whole Batam was unimpressive. Angeles, on the other hand, just seems to get better and better, although they took down the barriers to allow one way traffic on Fields. As a walking street, it was way better.

i think it is now 40 or 50,000 rupiah to nagoya the main town area

Just went to Batam last Thursday but was caught by the new computerised system over at the Singapore end. When I brought a ferry ticket, I was issued an electronic boarding card. It was very nice with all the required info on it. It stated the gate closing at 1. 30 pm. At the gantry gate, when I tapped the card reader, my watch was 1. 30 pm, however, the system time was l. 31 pm. Thus I was locked out by the system and was advised to take the next ferry. It was a waste of time. So dear brothers, please allow yourselves some time including queue time before the gate closes on you.

I would like to recommend a real nice fellow that I met on Batam. His name is Marsel (like the French name “Marcel”) Marsel is native Indonesian, in his mid-forties, he is very smart, open-minded, and he speaks English very well.

Well it will be my first time in Batam as I plan to spend a few days in Nagoya in mid May and am really looking forward to it thanks to the excellent reports and contributions by all of you.
I will provide detail TR on my return however; I do have few questions,
I am planning on staying at the Panorama hotel, as it appears this is the best choice and will all facilities I would use and is close to NED.
I cannot see in the discussions where any one has had any trouble with bringing back a girl for an overnight stay however has anyone recently does this and if so was all OK?
In addition, it appears that the casino’s are now closed in Batam. Is this correct and if not are any close to Nagoya?

Hey there Leblon. I've visited Batam Island three times in the past two years and all have been weekend trips where I traveled back to Singapore on Monday. A lot of the KTV type places aren’t open on Sundays, but the fishbowl take-out places are open.
In my opinion, Nagoya (the main city on Batam Island) is a shit hole. There’s very little for tourists to do and see there. The only reason anyone would visit is for sex and possibly to play golf.
The one advantage of Batam over Singapore is prices for LT and ST are extremely low compared to Singapore. But my opinion is the quality is much lower too. I found I've found that there are very few "stunners" in Batam because the truly gorgeous women head to Singapore or other places where they can make more money. So if you want short time with a cute Indonesian, just stay in Singapore and head to Geylang where you can find one for around $70 Sing (around $45 US).
If you're looking for a "sure thing", then head to one of the many "fishbowl" places. I never did find one in the Nagoya Entertainment District (NED) but the hotel taxi driver at the Panorama Regency took me to a couple which were a couple of miles away in other parts of the city. Prices at the fishbowl places ranged from 250, 000 to 270, 000 rupiah last year (around $30 US) to take a woman overnight until around 10 am the next morning. If you want to be serviced in the club in one of their rooms, the price was 140, 000 rupiah for full service. I had the in-call service one time, and I'll never do it again. The room was disgustingly unsanitary, with the shower drain doubling as the toilet hole.
Most women I saw in the fishbowl clubs ranged from semi-cute to really ugly. The majority were rather plain looking and didn't seem all that enthused to be there. But some of the women would say "Hi Mister" and smile and wave at me (I'm a middle-aged white guy and I took their enthusiasm to mean they had no hesitation with spending the night with me).
Experience has taught me that the more enthusiastic the girl is, the better the service she provides. So if I were you I'the choose the plain yet friendly girl over the good-looking yet aloof ones.
I've only been to one disco (Pacific Disco near the Novotel Hotel), but I have heard that most are open on Sunday nights and plenty of women are available. There are two huge drawbacks to the discos, however. One is that the action really starts late at night, usually around 10 or 11 pm. At that hour I'the rather be curled up with my companion instead of fighting the crowds at the disco.
The second drawback is that the discos are extremely noisy and dark. It's darned near impossible to adequately check out the women because there are no lights on the dance floor. And trust me, you'll need earplugs because Indonesian discos seem to play music at the highest volume they can. You'the better bring earplugs or you'll have a splitting headache if you spend too much time there.
One benefit to the disco was that I felt the quality of women is higher than in the fishbowl establishments. Quoted prices varied quite a bit from girl to girl. Some girls wanted 150, 000 for LT and others wanted 400, 000 for ST.
PP Bananas is the only true exotic dance establishment in Batam Nagoya and all in all it’s a pretty fun place to visit. I must admit I’m not sure what the selection is like on a Sunday night since I‘ve only been there on Saturdays. And even on other days, the action doesn’t seem to get going until after 9 pm or so.
But there is one huge advantage to being in Batam on a Sunday, however. I haven't read too much in the Batam forum about shopping mall girls, but they are out there in force on a Sunday and if you're looking for a "girl friend experience", I'the definitely give it a try.
If you are staying at the Panorama Regency Hotel, there are two shopping centers just down the street and are visible from the hotel. The one closest to the hotel is the Ramayama Department Store (at least I think that‘s the name). It's quite popular with the locals because it's air conditioned. During the day on Saturday and Sunday the store is absolutely packed with shoppers, with a sizeable number of cute, friendly, and nice Indonesian women under the age of 25.
I’ve never seen another white guy shopping there, and it is rare to see one around town, too. Most whites seem to stay in the confines of the hotels or go to the Nagoya Entertainment District for nocturnal activities. So being a white guy in Nagoya is a novelty. If you are friendly and act like a gentleman to the girls, it’s amazing how positively they will respond to you. Indonesian women really are attracted to white men, and I definitely used it to my advantage.
I’m a 47 year old white guy with thinning blonde-gray hair and blue eyes and ghostly white skin. I would be considered an average-looking guy here in the USA, but you’d never know that by the reaction I always get from women at the Ramayama store. It’s amazing how many girls would say "Hi Mister" as I passed by. The shyer girls would just stand and stare like I was a celebrity, LOL.
Unlike in the Philippines, the workers in the store do not wear "uniforms". So much of the time it wasn't readily evident which of the girls were workers and which were shoppers. But even the hired help was very friendly and it appeared that many of their friends would come by and chat with them while they worked.
Usually the girls are hanging out in groups of 2 to 6, which I think makes them braver in approaching white strangers than if they were alone. It was common for the "Alpha-Female" of the group to start a conversation, asking where I was from and eventually asking if I had a girlfriend. When I would answer "No, I am here alone", she would make a comment in Bahasa language to the rest of the girls and most would utter "mmmmmmmmm", which indicated a bit of interest on their part.
What happened on three occasions is that after I would say goodbye and start moving to another part of the store, one of the girls in the group would walk over and initiate a private conversation with me. That’s when I would lay the groundwork for my nocturnal conquest. What works best is asking if they would like to go have lunch. There’s a KFC in the store and because most of the girls are poor, eating there is a real treat for them.
Usually it’s around 2 to 3 pm when lunch is over, and I feel it’s best to find something else to do before attempting to bring her to the hotel for the night. What I find works best is suggesting one of three things: the cinema, bowling center, or playing video games. All 3 of my companions have chosen bowling. As luck would have it there’s a bowling center at the Center Point Mall, which is a short motorbike ride away. After bowling a couple of games and having refreshments at the mall food court, it’s usually close to sunset. That’s the point where I’d ask if she would like to go to my hotel and watch movies in my room.
Trust me guys, I’ve never been disappointed with any of my shopping mall pick-ups. I probably spent a grand total of $15 US on each one but in their minds I had treated them like queens, and being the King I was rewarded by wonderful girl friend experiences that no amount of money could ever buy from a pro. None ever asked for money for "services rendered", but I offered each some money for transportation home and they never refused it. We would exchange phone numbers and of course I would promise to call when I returned home. Internet usage isn’t common in Batam and it’s not that easy to find internet cafes there. None of the three women had email addresses so there wasn’t an easy way for us to keep in touch even if I had wanted to.

by air:
batam has a domestic airport with good connections to jakarta, denpasar, surabaya, pekanbaru and a few more cities. the airport is on the eastern part of the island. from central nagoya town a taxi will cost 60-70,000 rp.
to singapore and malaysia the connection is only by frequent ferries. departures every half an hour to singapore during daylight and less frequent to malaysia. several companies operate from several ports. the most convenient to nagoya town are either batu ampar or batam central ports. all marked on the map below.
by ferry:
to get to bintan island (also good meat-ing) you take the frequent ferries from telaga punggur terminal, near the airport (marked on map). it is just a short hop away, and a quite different experience to batam or singapore. more rural, more traditional and even exciting.

your most likely departure point will be from singapore's harbour town (marked ht on the map). coming by mrt train from the singapore changi airport you will have to change trains once at outram park station. however you can buy your ticket all the way from the airport. don't forget to get your $1 deposit refunded on the mrt card as you leave the station. there are also a few departures to batam from tanah merah, however tanah merah serves mostly bintan island.
your ferry ticket price varies with operator and costs around s$30 for the short trip. please note that you don't have to check your luggage in, you can carry it onboard if you wish. on fridays to batam and sundays from batam all ferries may be booked out by weekenders from singapore. bear this in mind.
local transport is only by private arrangement, either sedans or motorbikes.
this will add a lot to your bills as taxis are unmetered and charge a minimum 20,000 for the shortest trip and 50-70,000 to the ports or airport. at night you may want to hire one by the hour, 30-50,000/hr is reasonable. they hang around all hotels. for shorter trips, moto-taxis charge 5-10,000 rp.
the place is very spread out so you will need transport to go nearly anywhere, esp. at night.
5. accomodation, varieties, costs, particular hotels
some say that accomodation on batam is expensive. it is not correct. in fact if you look around, much better deals can be had than in jawa. for example, a perfectly comfortable, airconditioned room for less than 150,000 rp. just look in the side alleys, near big hotels.
harmony hotel is marked on the map. because it is in the middle of the action, surrounded by bars, massage-karaokes and many cheaper but good quality accomodation options. nearly everywhere there is 20% surcharge on weekends. also, cheap rooms will be booked out.
6. food, drink, smoke and etc.
you don't have to eat at the hotel. much tastier food is available in little shops everywhere for 5-10,000 rp a plate. beer is mostly indonesian bintang and anker for 15,000 a large bottle. smokes are cheap.
7. safety, dangers, traffic, public security, attitudes towards tourists (author's opinion)
contrary to rumours, batam is not that wild. local folks are nice enough, but better get to know the driver during the day before you hire him for the night. one area to avoid is the ghetto of jodoh, just nw of nagoya hill. there can be hassles.

cost of fuck/basic meal (such as a plate of fried rice or hamburger with chips) in batam 150,000/10000rp.=15 which is not too bad compared to the us rate of $150/5=30.

just like an airport, procedures are very efficient on arrival by ferry. all western nations will require to purchase an indonesian visa either for 7 days or 30 days. the 30 day visa costs usd$25 the other somewhat cheaper. if you don't have usd, they will change other currencies at totally poor rates. extension is not possible after 30 days. overstays are charged $10/day.
10. about fuck
a/ meat, available varieties, age
what is available on batam? some have said before that they are not the most attractive. possibly true. however, the deal is not too bad at rp. 300,000 for lt overnight. if you are into that, it is much better deal than even dolly in surabaya. the meat is usually older, mostly mamas.
some younger chicks may cost 100,000 more. most entertainment venues are trying to push lt overnight hires and the rate for st is either not available or not favorable 150-200,000rp. plus room another 50-90,000 for one hour. the girls are from jawa or other indonesian islands and speak little or no english, which can be good (or bad, up to you).

batam is an easy going place. lots of people will try to make friends with you especially if you speak some of their language or eat at local foodshops. it can be fun but also possibly warrants some caution as you are so much richer than them. see point# 2c above.
c/ fucking places, venues, times
two basic options: either karaoke (you don't have to sing) or massage (fish bowl style). pretty straightforward, the thai style stuff that you already know. some places open as early as 2pm but it is best after 7 pm when all staff arrived. also worth to go early as the best chicks will fly out quick. some of these are around the harmony hotel. but really they are everywhere, often far-away.
best to hire a taxi a for the night and go shopping around. karaokes go by the names of: alizan, barong, horisona, lucky boy, maxim, memory and so on. there are heaps. and massage parlours just as many.
i would also mention tanjung unjang area (marked on map) for cheaper, local style meat-service and the road near batu ampar harbour for streetwalkers at night. samyong (north batam), has been famous redlight area for many years. now seems to have been closed. however, situations can change, so better ask your taxi driver about all these.
d/ fuck costs
as it was mentioned before, usually the overnight deal is preferred by the karaokes especially. 300,000 rp ($35) is really not a bad deal, about as much as in thailand or less. on top of that you will have the taxi fares plus consumption of drinks and food for the two of you. massage places either give a fixed figure for a fuck, eg 200,000rp or will charge 80,000rp for massage and you discuss the rest with the masseuse upstairs.
someone said that the best girls flock to work in singapore. it is in fact true, but in singapore the ugly girls cost the same as the pretty ones and you will pay the same for st there as for lt here. however, batam is a different experience at all.
e/ graphic description of scene
the whole place is very spread out. on foot you can only discover the immediate vicinity of your hotel. if you stay in central nagoya, you will find a few pubs and karaokes nearby. but eventually you will hop into a taxi. they are comfortable, aircon. you speed past half finished development sites, brand new residential blocks and rubbish heaps as well as jungles. and ghettoes too.
all very rough in a way, very contrasting and interesting. you arrive at a karaoke. it's dark inside. soon you will get used to it. the girls roll up one side. you choose one you like. order drinks for the two of you. then you decide if she will do for the night. if not, then on to the next one. if yes, you spend some money and you are off to a seafood dinner, dancing or even singing in a karaoke. use your imagination.
11. other things to do while there
you could do the same as i usually do: wanking all day in your room. otherwise there are pubs during the day, shopping centres, video arcades, bowling centres. surely, nagoya hill sc is the flashiest (marked on the map). there you can drool over the beautiful young chicks parading inside all day and have a wank in the restrooms. they are clean. there is also an internet lounge in the centre where you can post your experiences to isg forum.

the social affairs office within batam municipal administration has decided to merge six brothel complexes rep001tered around batam into a single complex in the batam district, nongsa, in order to "contain" prostitution there.
head of the office azwan said on tuesday that the municipal government and batam authority had provided a 7.4-hectare site in teluk pandan, nongsa district, to allow businesspeople to relocate their entertainment business to the area.
the six complexes in question are those in samyong and tangki seribu, batu ampar district; teluk bakau, nongsa district; tanjung ucang, sekupang district; tanjung piayu, sei beduk district and mat belanda island, belakang padang district.
businesspeople from these complexes have already relocated 18 bars and karaoke clubs to a 3.2-hectare site in teluk pandan, which has accommodated 139 sex workers; the remaining 4.2 hectares will be used for the relocation and construction of amusement places.
"the new policy is aimed at isolating the brothel complex from local residential areas and from children. it is also aimed at limiting the presence of sex workers in the city. they are likely to be people living with hiv/aids," said azwan.
teluk pandan is set to accommodate 96 bars and karaoke spots; thus far, a total 866 sex workers are now registered with the social affairs office.

the widespread existence of prostitution in batam is mostly attributed to the large number of foreigners arriving in the city -- notably ships' crews seeking sex partners.
brothel complexes in batam have become more popular compared with bars and karaoke clubs in plush nagoya amusement park, because the cost of services is much cheaper in the brothel complexes than in nagoya. in the brothel complexes, sex workers charge rp 100,000 (us$ 10.5) to rp 150,000 per night, while in nagoya customers are charged rp 200,000 (us$ 21) to rp 500,000 per night. the price of food and beverages is also much higher in nagoya than in the brothel complexes.

coming to bintan from singapore you will have to use a different ferry terminal from the batam one. the singapore "tanah merah mrt" station has frequent bus connections to the tanah merah ferry terminal. you will catch the #35 bus. route details and other info is on the attached map under the singapore article. you can also take your big bags on this bus. the tanah merah terminal is very clean, efficient and organized in usual singapore style. it is rather like an airport. you can carry your own bag on board the ferry if you wish. the trip is just over an hour and the boat is airconditioned.
several companies run ferries to and from singapore, about 6 departures a day. departures are not as frequent as to batam, only about 6 times a day. more details here:

take note that the weekend timetable is quite different from the weekday one. weekend travel should be altogether avoided if possible, because of the crowds arriving from singapore and malaysia. friday nights to bintan and sunday afternoons from bintan are usually completely booked out.
transport from bintan to batam island: from tanjung pinang there also frequent ferries, approx. every 30 minutes. on batam you arrive at telaga punggur where lots of taxis will mob you. keep your cool, although there is a fare-table the prices are negotiable. they will take you to nagoya for 50krp. the batam airport is very near telaga punggur, in case you are catching a flight.

outside tanjung pinang town there is no public transport and you will have to charter a private vehicle wherever you go. this includes the beaches and the chicken village. the good news is that chartering is cheaper than on batam. the bad news is that most vehicles are in pretty crappy condition. for an all day trip think of 200krp+ (in year 2007). a return trip to the chicken village (approx. 30km) shouldn't cost more than 80krp. from singapore you arrive at the tanjung pinang international seaport, which is right in the town centre. farangs can get a visa on arrival here for the usual $10. $25, 7. 30days. don't join the main queue at passport control as you arrive but go to the "visa" window (singaporeans don't need a visa). being the only farang, you will most likely go thru quicker than the others. if you don't have usd, you can also change rupiah and sgd here at pitiful rates.
exiting the ferry terminal a mob of taxi drivers and motos will hassle you but it is not as bad as batam. (and of course it's nothing when compared to psar tmei, phnom penh). don't believe what they say, you don't need transport to get to town. because you are already in town. just locate the gate and walk out calmly. there will be many hotels on your left and right. some are marked on the map below. as always, i suggest that you check in to these for the first night and then you can go searching for something better.
maps: apart from this map, you can buy a better one at bookshops in singapore or batam. there are not so many bookshops on bintan itself. or you can use the lonely planet map in the indonesia book.

there are many hotels right in town, however standards are not as high as on batam. count on 50k for fan and 150krp for a reasonable aircon room. most hotels will not have a safetybox in this price-range. apart from saturday night there will be plenty of accomodation available in all price ranges.

you are in the center of town and a variety of foodshops are at your door. all indonesian fare though. at night there are many food sellers at the harbour. both smokes and beer are cheaper than in singapore.

the locals will give you a lot of attention but they are generally friendly. it is a much nicer and more relaxed place than batam. you can feel that there is a "community" here which is lacking on batam. security is not a great issue. it is a friendly place in general.

there are atms and many money changers around the harbour and all over town. rates are quite good for usd and sgd but not so for other currencies. better stock up on lots of dollars in singapore before you come. it is the hard currency of choice here.

there are karaokes and massage joints in town. however, the atmosphere of the "chicken village" beats all these and there your choice is much greater.
the "chicken vilej" (kampung ayam) is also called "batu duapulu empat kilo" because it is approx. 24 km away. as you will see it is actually quite a long trip and more like 30 km. in the past there used to be more villages nearer but at present they do not operate.
the fuck costs (in usd)
basic st. 1hr. one shot is 100krp ($11us) at present time and it seems that farang can get the same price as asians, at least if you can speak enough indonesian or malay. if you need the driver to translate then count on another 50k in commissions. long time is 500krp plus taxi back in the morning.

approximate location is marked on the map below. the trips actually feels a lot longer than 24km. it's on the road to kawal town. just past bintan agro resort. if you come daytime you will still find some action but the best is after dark, 7-8 pm. but please bring a flashlight as powerfailures are common. when there is light the place is very pretty at night. and when the power is off, the lots of candles give a special feeling to the area.come daytime, it looks pretty plain and unattractive.
it's a real village.complete with chickens, goats, families, washing lines, and lots of kids running around. note that if you are an anti-sex pervert there might be an opportunity for you to excel. you could take fotos of the kids and sell the story to new york times with the headline: "child prostitution horror". same as you did in cambodia.
however, to tell the truth, none of that goes on here, as all premises are licensed by the government and supervised. this is a legal "berijin psk" (pekerja seks komersial with permit) area, and no-one risks their permit to be revoked by monkeying around. but of course your readers won't know that and will scream in horror. and of course you will get lots of money.
11. other things to do while there
the beach is not that gerat near town but other parts of the island are very scenic. you can also charted boats to visit some villages across the harbour for a daytrip. easy to spend a few days.

finding a driver
i did a bit of strolling around the fishmarket area in the early afternoon, near the second jetty. got to talk with some local guys, trying to find a driver to the "chickens". to have a good driver is most important for your experience. also if you put some work into getting to know them you will feel safer and they will look after you. finally agreed with a young man about 30 years. we shall meet in the evening and try to find some nice "young, fresh puss-puss".

How come no one here talks about the Smiling Hill Club? I have stayed there, and found the people to be great to hang out with, the location quiet with security, reasonable..the food great. I stayed there in 2006. The three guys and the staff who ran the place were friendly and helpful. It's very laid back and run more like a guest house or small club. It hasn't the formality of a three star hotel. The only drawback is that one has to take a four minute taxi ride to Nagoya Center if one wishes to drink or dine out -not a big deal. I believe that the restaurant is open to guests and non-guests alike. Possibly the pool as well, but better check.

Harmony hotel and Formosa hotel can be nice hotels to stay in, have a search on the internet, they're both right in the heart of all the action, mostly KTV. For Formosa, if you book one of the better rooms, they'll throw in a free one-hour massage and action is available in the hotel itself, ST starts at just 140k.
More or less the same would apply for Harmony, I'd guess? .. depends on your prefs.

Stay anywhere in Nagoya...there are rooms everywhere, all girl friendly. Personally, I prefer the Puri Garden because of the traditional massage and pub across the street. Likewise with ferries, take any company's ferry from Singapore Harbourfront terminal to Batu Ampar then a short taxi to Nagoya.

But as you can read from the many reports Batam is definitely the easiest place if you do not speak bahasa. The girls are all good, it is us that screw them up, ha, ha. There is a lot of good info on places to eat and come in contact with girls in Batam, just go into Nagoya, pick a hotel there and you are in the middle of the action.
Oya, steaks, McDonalds and Kentucky fried chicken is foreign food on these islands, nasi goreng, lumpia, soto ayam and bakso is local food. Try it and you even might start to like it. It is hot and spicy but lets you get used to the spicyness of the girls (my GF is, although she doesn't want me to say so as she rather likes to be referred to as manis). Enjoy but be nice to them.
