In that case, you have more than enough money to both eat well and monger regularly, at least once a day. So, please don't overpay! The going rate for long-term (overnight) for a girl you meet at a place like CJ's (Hotel Mulia), BATS (Hotel Shangri-La) or 30 Bar (Hotel Le Meridien) should be no more than 600,000 rupiah.

Just back from Kartika.
The guy at the counter collected Rp.300,000 from me and said that they have increased the fee wef past 1 month.
Have any body paid similar amount in the past 2-3 weeks?
This may be true but it does seem strange, as Kartika had increased its house fee from 250,000 to 300,000 rupiah in early June. Normally the MPs in Jakarta increase their house fee when they re-open after the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, meaning in early October for this year.
I just hope that you weren't cheated because Ramadan starts in less than 2 weeks. Kartika and most of the MPs in Jakarta (other than some of the ones in a hotel such as Hotel Malioboro or Alexis) are closed from one/two days before Ramadan until after the Eid holiday is over, meaning that the girls and other staff who work there face at least five weeks with no work and no income. Plus, the girls are expected to leave Jakarta and travel back to their home "kampung" for the Eid holiday (known as Lebaran in the Bahasa Indonesian language) with gifts and cash for their family/relatives.
Thus, many girls become somewhat greedy just before Ramadan starts; this year it begins on September 1st.

No. The fee is 260K inclusive. But, these girls work for tip and regulars know this. Many first time foreigners neglected to tip these girls. And, this is the reason why they add 50K tip on top of the normal fee.
And, I think due to psychology reasons, girls always ended up receiving more tip when the fee is paid at the counter.

Please note that, while the Maribaya Spa (6th Floor of Hotel Melawai) will probably close down between August 27-30, that many of the girls who work there will stay in Hotel Melawai thru mid-September, renting out a couple of rooms (usually on the same 6th floor) and take turns servicing customers. Please read my post from July 27, 2008 on this subject.
No need to have the lobby doorman/bell-boy bring you upstairs, you can just go up to the 6th flooor by yourself. Please read my post from last year on this subject, the doorman/bellboy demands a 100,000 rupiah tip from the girls for bringing customers up to them.
The Sonia at Kartika that is often discussed here on the board is half-Chinese and has bright red hair, speaks excellent English (rare at Kartika) and (I thought!) was in her early-to-mid 30s. Ambiance was good and took a deluxe room with attached bath. Rp 250K for two sessions of 45 min each. No selection and got number 25, name Lia 20 YO from Bandung. Look 6/10. Tried to negotiate for FS, but she was not prepared saying that it is her mencess period.

There may have been a clampdown in Atrium but it was certainly pretty good last time I was there a couple of months ago and definitely no problem with security. I reported at the time that Blok M Plaza was good too, especially the cinema where I had and interesting "experience".
I agree Plaza Semmanggi is pretty good especeially for better quality girls, there are lot of them but harder to get. i think i have said it several times here before: there was never any problems in tropical where i have been several times and which in fact has become one of my favorite in jakarta.
there was no more good or bad experiences than any other similar places whereby the relationship with the girls can never be predicted for certain anywhere, and varies widely subject to so many factors.
among those factors can be the mood of both people, (the girl could have been pissed off by the previous guy or something else), the time of the day, (they are only human and get tired after 10 hours waiting and or servicing), the attitude and the body language, (whether the guys are nice and gentle or with macho attitude and rough), the existence or lack of attraction, (you can't help it if the girl does not feel any kind of attraction or even worse, if she dislikes the guy completely and rather feels repulsion), the level of the tip history, (the girls talk to each other: that's all they do, so if the guy is known not to tip enough ...), the ability to communicate or not, (a lot of bules or other asians do not speak a word of indo and those girls very rarely speak good english), to name but a very few.
i have had some meorable sessions both with the free lancers and the therapists there. i also have had some not so good sessions, as well as some friends i took there, and i usually let whoever is in charge there know, and they always took into consideration the complaint.
the advantage of tropical is how well you pak ah-guan and your staff know your girls and the pros and cons to have any one of them.
so i would strongly suggest to any bro here to ask you or pak aan, the duty mananger there, before selecting either an fl or a therapist depending on what they really are after, bearing in mind that for new girls it's always a lottery... even more unpredictible ...

Actually I am very pleased to read that a business establishment cares enough about customer service to take the time out to post here, and to let us know that if any ISG member has a complaint, that he should contact management to rectify the situation. Seriously!
Those of us who have spent a lot of time in Jakarta already know that this attitude is quite rare. Adrian's post helps to make up for those places where I've received lousy service (e.g. Krystal Spa in Pang-Jay) and complained to management, only to have them shrug their shoulders and say that they could care less if I come back or not.

actually i wanted to post it long time ago in local forum but it (the forum) is financially supported by your management, so i dare not...
i remember i ever complaint about a therapist's attitude in kimochi spa and suddenly senior moderator reminded me (this happened before i came to tropical spa).
not only me who complaint about your spa i think.

Stayed at the "resort" hotel FM7 near the airport for a few nights. Nice place, with full spa services. Extras are available for a price. I recommend Jovita from Sulawesi. She used to work at the spa in Mulia. Very pretty and accommodating. Expensive but convenient and excellent service overall.
Friday night and not sure what to do. After a spy around Sarina, headed to Le Meridien. Arrived about 10.30 and steadily it filled up. At around 11.30, got chatting to a girl called Vina, 21. She said she'd only been in Jakarta for 3 weeks from jogya. Excellent english and we got on well. Since I wasn't being approached in the normal "mister mister" fasion I bought her a drink. Girls were average and I've had much better elsewhere. But the real reason I haven't been back is your reception staff who were unwelcoming and non-communicative about the services on offer. I speak enough Indonesian to get by so language was not the problem. I did get the feeling (rightly or wrongly) that bules were not very welcome. Maybe we are all 'nobody's in which case our absence will not hurt your profit margin too much. But if you do consider us important to your bottom line then here is a suggestion. Tell you staff to make ALL customers feel welcome when they walk in the door.

In particular, go to the "Links to Reports of Distinction" section and go to page 5, where you will reach a post that recommends 7 posts written by respected senior member Bulai69 - all of those posts discuss "mall-hunting."
One problem may be that Taman Anggrek Mall is not as good as Atrium Mall, Plaza Semanggi or Plaza Indonesia for mall-hunting. However, you can always have luck if you hang around near the food courts or movie cinemas at any mall in Jakarta.

oyenk is correct in mentioning kartika spa as a place where you'll receive both a good massage and a guaranteed fs session.
you could also try "ina" at berlian spa, next door to kartika, for both.

The fasting month AFAIK starts from the 1st of Sept. According to today's Jakarta Post, tourism spots including bars, massage parlours etc. must close operations from the day before the fasting month which means that they should close from 31st Aug onwards. The post about Tropical Spa by the owner just below seems to bear this out. But if anyone has any particular knowlegde about the situation at Jl Fatehalan bars, please let me know.

Business as usual on Paletehan. One bar owner told me they will close earlier than normal on Saturday and another told me that a meeting was occurring, maybe today, when the operating hours will be set.
Either way Blok M is only closed for a couple of days at either end of the Ramadan.

There is probably less racism against blacks in Jakarta than in most places, believe it or not. Although I am caucasian, I am very, very close to several "people of African descent" who live in Jakarta, both personally and professionally, so I feel that I can speak with some authority on this issue.
Unfortunately there is one racial stigma that is particularly strong in Indonesia, and that is the anti-Nigerian sentiment. A significant percentage of the drug trade in Jakarta appears to be run by Nigerians, at least that's what the Indonesian press reports, so the average Indonesian may equate being a Nigerian with being a drug dealer.
So my advice would be to make sure that people know right away that you are a black American, not a Nigerian.
One friend of mine who lives in Jakarta, a middle-aged black American male, is a frequent visitor to the mp's in the Mangga besar/Hayam Wuruk area, and he has told me that he hasn't had any problems at those establishments. I once ran into him at Royal Mas MP where he was heading upstairs with a 19 year old Java cutie who probably weighed all of 80 pounds (36 kgs.), so obviously he was not having any problems getting girls there.

Noticed that you are a first-time poster. I hope you'll write a few posts of your experiences after your upcoming visit, although you've picked a terrible time to come to Jakarta for mongering (as the fasting month of Ramadan begins on September 1st).
If you had been reading the forum carefully, you'd already know that it's spelled "Blok M" and that most of the hot bars are on Jalan Palatehan 1, pronounced Jalan Falatehan ("Jalan" means "street")
Every taxi driver in Jakarta knows where "Blok M" and this street are. An alternative method would be to take Route 1 of the Trans-Jakarta busway, which goes from Kota (in the northern part of Jakarta) to blok M in the south. As you step onto the open platform from the bus, take a look to your left before you walk down the stairs, and you'll see Jln. Falatehan 1.
Another alternative would be to get to the Pasaraya Grande shopping plaza, and you'll be within a five-minute walk of the bars.
Even better, type "Blok M" into Google and you'll see the following web site as the first choice:

Yes it is true. On 27th night around 10 pm, 2 bules, one indonesian and 25 girls were picked up by the police. They were detained in the police station through the night. The Mamasan has been detained while all have been left.

From my experience living in Jakarta during Ramadan 2006 and 2007, I would say yes, it's still relatively easy to pick up girls and yes, they are in a good mood, especially if you tip them well :D
While money is always a great motivator for these girls, it can be even more important during the first 3 weeks or so of Ramadan. Remember, most of these girls are still planning to travel to their home village (beginning around Sept. 25th), and they cannot come home empty-handed; their relatives will be expecting cash, gifts and food from them.

So my advice would be to make sure that people know right away that you are a black American, not a Nigerian.
One friend of mine who lives in Jakarta, a middle-aged black American male, is a frequent visitor to the mp's in the Mangga besar/Hayam Wuruk area, and he has told me that he hasn't had any problems at those establishments. I once ran into him at Royal Mas MP where he was heading upstairs with a 19 year old Java cutie who probably weighed all of 80 pounds (36 kgs.), so obviously he was not having any problems getting girls there.

I believe this is because a lot of Asian medicine and therapies are based on the circulation of blood through the body as an indicator to one's health.
Good circulation means your body is healthy and is strong enough to fight off common ailments on it's own. Poor circulation means you will have weaker immune system, longer healing and recovery times, and more likely to have relapses.

Since the subject of "Masuk Angin" was brought up, I decided to provide an illustration of the "medical treatment" in question.

Only one post? How come you never bothered to write some posts of your 2006 experiences in Jakarta?
RTFF and you'll discover that Ramadan is the entire month of September, with the Eid-ul-Fitri holiday on Oct. 1st and extending through the weekend. The bars should be open that weekend (Oct. 4 - 5) but many of the working girls may still be back in their home villages visiting their families.
Most of the MPs (Kartika, Maribaya, etc.) should be open by Oct. 6th.
Cooze Hound has already discussed your question on prices. I visited Ho Chi Minh City earlier this year and loved every minute. Did not have much time to monger but here are a few suggestions:
- try the 51 and 49 gogo bars on Hai Ba Trung, one block east of the Sheraton
- check out the Cafe Bida, otherwise known as Bar Saigon, on Dong Do (Dong Du) about 30 m from Hai Bai Trung. It has a very nice selection of ladies who wear a modified Aoi Dai and a very accomodating mamasan who does her best to look after her girls and her customers.
- check out "Apocalypse Now" a regular bar with many working women

The info below is for the complete newbie to Jakarta, there is nothing new which might interest the senior posters – sorry guys
First off, just a bit of background info which goes some way to explaining the experiences I had. I'm in my 30's, speak no Bahasa and only had 6 nights in this gigantic city and this was my 1st trip. I stayed in the Kohta area and travelled around on foot and taxi. I like to think of myself as a well travelled monger, having played around in over 10 countries prior to hitting Jakarta. I am happy to trawl down dark alleyways in the middle of the night looking for that dream girl, and seldom attract attention form the locals.
So my take on the city? Well what became instantly obvious was that 6 nights was not even going to scratch the surface considering what was on offer! Jakarta is not friendly to mongers on a time-budget, you can quite easily waste 2 hours getting from north to south at rush hour. As a newbie you really do need to draw up a plan of action, if you like the short time options offered in the Kohta region, then stay in that area. You can sample the bars, enjoy the girls during the early evening and then at around 11pm you can head out to central/south Jakarta. At that time in the evening it will only take you around 30 mines. I found that the Kohta bars did not really get going until about 6pm. This left a 6 hour hole in my day which I found difficult to fill and there is not much to do in the area in terms of malls, restaurants etc, something to bear in mind if those amenities are important to you.
ST OPTIONS
For short time venues, the Kohta, Penjay bars absolutely rock, the quality of girls far exceed what you can find in Angeles, the only place in Asia which I have sampled which comes close is Changping. Only problem I found was that the sessions missed the GFE, for me at least. I strongly believe that this was purely down to my lack of Bahasa, and I’m confident if I had learnt 100 odd words, my sessions would have been elevated to memorable status. The other point to mention is that the ST rooms in most of these establishments are a bit cramped and sterile. So would I go again? Hell yes! Jakarta has now knocked Angeles off my number 3 spot for best mongering destinations in the world. Mall hunting is for everyone, in fact a fifty-something ISG member might have more success than a 20 something model man with a thin/empty wallet.

I was in Atrium Mall before the fasting period and in my personal opinion this should be peak periods for FLs to make money for the upcoming Idul Fitri Season. Guess what? The Mall has been renovated and seems brighter and the guards are now using nice & simple uniform with t-shirt & cap but big bummer is that they have increased survillance on all possible FL hang outs and at the time I was there with a long lost forumer, we could hardly get positive response as each floor we were at there was a security guard constantly on survillance using thier walkie talkie! For short time venues, the Kohta, Penjay bars absolutely rock, the quality of girls far exceed what you can find in Angeles, the only place in Asia which I have sampled which comes close is Changping. DW, if you find it easy to find a girl in AC which rocks your boat in the looks department then i would say stick with the place. Granted, the girls have started to develop a bit of an attitude but you are still likely to receive that special PI welcome which results in a great GFE.

Experience is another matter. One thing to be aware of is that the girls at Hotel Travel are mainly young and lack experience. That can be very off putting for some. There's nothing worse than a girl who takes you right to the edge and then goes and does something weird because she thinks you'll like it.
As to insisting, well I believe that they're all instructed to insist on using a condom for everyone. Afterall the cleaner they are the more they can work. I've never had a refusal at Hotel Travel when I express my preference for BB activities. But maybe my charming personality persuades them into it ;)
A good report from your first trip - just a couple of (hopefully helpful) observations: you say "GFE is available but you need to work on it and LT options are poor". I think both of these issues have arisen for you because of the places you've been. The Kota area is more likely to provide a commoditised service than other areas you might like to investigate next time.
As for LT - that is definitely not a problem; it's easy to find a girl that will stay with you like a limpet for several hours or days (or months or years!), provided of course you are prepared to pay. If you want a good GFE/LT relationship - say for a few days, it's better in my experience to find a girl in a mall or even on the net before you go. In any case, I find that in the a one-and-half hour package you effectively get only one hour as 30 minutes are to be spent outside in the sauna or the pool. Try the branch of 'Bersih Sehat Family Massage' located at 106 Jalan KH Wahid Hasyim near Agus Salim. As the name suggests it is a clean, well-run massage place popular with the middle-class-and-up locals.
Hotel staff found this place for me. It's only about 6000 IDR taxi ride away from the Ambhara Hotel...therefore quite close. Very attractive place with legit services. I had a 1 and onehalf hour massage plus manacure for 190,000 plus tips. Highly recommend the place.

It works on same principle as Pondok Nirwana, you drive in and someone closes the door behind you so noone sees your car, but as I said, its not close, then you have to get back to bekasi to return your catch. Let me know if you find anything closer, I'll also keep an eye/ear open next few visists there.

Don't be deceived by the word "Family," the spa does offer massages for women, but on a different floor (2nd floor), separate from the men's floors (3rd and 4th). I've never seen another "bule" (foreigner here), most customers are Chinese Indonesians.
Price: a 1 hour massage is 90,000 rupiah, 90 minutes for 135,000 rupiah. The girls prefer and request that you choose the 90 minutes rather than the 1 hour session. The house fee is discounted if you have a session between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
There appear to be 15-20 girls working here. You do not get to see them ahead of time, nor do you see any photos; instead, the receptionist at the front desk shows you a list of the names of the available girls, along with the adjective "Strong" "Medium" or "Soft" to describe the type of massage they give. The receptionist will describe the girls to you and try to answer any questions you may have about them.
Yes, it is possible to have only a legitimate massage here, especially if you choose a "strong" masseuse such as Poppy, who I recommend highly.
Until six months ago, it was easy to also get a HJ here, with tips starting at 100,000 rupiah for a HJ, although it was almost impossible to get a bj or full service here. However, the most recent reports I've read suggest that even a HJ may not be available any more.
The spa is relatively new (7 years old) and is spotlessly clean and modern. The massage rooms have a mattress on the raised floor, with a thick curtain covering the doorway, and the walls only go up 2 1/2 meters or so, not all the way to the ceiling. The men's section has a locker room, sauna, jacuzzi and showers on the 3rd floor (where the front reception desk is) as well as a small lounge with a bar and TV.
The routine here is that you check in at reception (3rd floor) where you are given a locker key and the opportunity to choose a girl for a massage. Then you proceed to the locker room and change into shorts and a top (that they provide). You can then use the sauna/jacuzzi first, or else walk straight upstairs one flight (to the 4th floor) where the massage rooms are.
Convenient location, not far from Jalan Sudirman and the Karet bus stop on the Transjakarta. Definitely a better location than Unique Spa, and cheaper than the somewhat-comparable Fortune Spa.
Here's a run-down on some of the girls:
Poppy has worked there since the place opened seven years ago and is probably 30-32 years old. Average face, extremely nice personality, and she gives the best "strong" massage of anyone working here. I attached their telp number long time ago in thread info, correct....on the way to Halim airport (on the left side). This place is run by retired airforce organization. The safest and cleanest place in East JKT area.
Other Mall destination to get easy gal is Kalibata Mall - South JKT, the closest hotel I think Hotel Kaisar (Duren Tiga raya) with transit hours.

The first time visitor to Jakarta has some limited options for daytime cultural diversions...especially if cruising malls for hours on end doesn't satisfy your intellectual curosity. The huge size of the city coupled with language and sineage issues complicate self discovery. The hotel concierge recommended GreyLine Tours and I was so pleased with my first tour that I signed up for a second one the following day. For between $30 and $40 you get your own driver, guide, and small van. Each day there were only two people on the tour, so interaction between you and the guide is maximized. There are brouchures in the hotels showing available tours and sights to be seen. Museums, ship harbor, art market, and Chinatown are some of the options. You are picked up at your hotel between 8:30 and 9:00am and returned around 3 or 4 pm. My female guide was personable, spoke good English, and did a good job showing us the sights. Considering the large distances covered, I don't think you could duplicate the tours in a private taxi much more cheaply. Highly recommend for those of you with time to kill and photos to take. Yep, the 'MP' is on the 3rd floor, although i am not sure if massages are on the menu! Walk through the bar area, past the cashier and you end up near the fish bowls. I think this floor has daytime action but i can't be sure as i only went during the evening.

I refer to the city and I'm inclined to the belief that the comparative slowness on this thread and other forums rather confirms my view that for whatever reason the old sparkle that made Jakarta special seems to have died, it's not just Ramadhan, that's long over, but there still seems to be a real lethargy in the air with a feeling of same old same old and no new fresh faces.
As is pointed out below there's no shortage of action in the Massage Parlours but sure you could get that anywhere, that's not what made Jakarta different. It was the thrill of meeting girls at all the oddest times in all the weirdest locations and having an amazing session all before lunch time. Of scoring on the Busway, in the shopping mall, in the queue at the bank, that sort of thing.
Even the girls in the bars at night were different from the types you'd meet elsewhere in the world, now they seem like the same cloned, bored professionals you could pick up in any similar bar in any similar city anywhere in the world.
Maybe it's just me getting blase, maybe it's a sign of progress as Jakarta moves on from being the gloriously oversized village it used to be to become just another anodyne SE Asian city, no different from Singapore or KL, just a little bit cheaper.

I just returned to UK from a 2 night visit and I have to say I found it just as good as any other trip. I've yet to report, but in summary, I picked an excellent girl up at the airport on arrival (who was "waiting for her boyfriend") and took her back to my hotel, I "found" several girls in Atrium though didn't take one, I spent time with my girlfriend, was busy at work as well and then picked another girl up at the airport on leaving. I had actually arrived at Bandara early as I planned to get a "massage" but I found the girl first and booked a short term room at the airport hotel. Anyone could do it obviously.

That's a very fair point, maybe I am just getting jaded after five years of it, no bad thing I suppose if that is the case and I dare say I would feel very differently if I was only seeing Jakarta on much anticipated flying visits.
You still hang out around Tiga Puluh though don't you Bulai? I'm sure you must have noticed a bit of a change there, when I first came 30 was up there along with CJ's and BATS as really fun, enjoyable clubs. Slightly more expensive than Blok M but nonetheless the same sense of unforced fun.
I have visited each of these places in recent months and found them to be soulless and rather bleak places now. They don't even start getting busy until nearly midnight and the girls hanging around seem to be a rather bored and sullen lot. The old "GFE" as posters here describe it, the (yes I know completely imaginary) sense of regular girls just out for a bit of fun and maybe a little bit of spare cash on the side seems to have gone to be replaced by a more commercial, professional routine.
I miss the "pick-ups" (no I never had to promise marriage, the pick-ups refer to me being picked up by the girls), where a girl might wish to discuss, oh I don't know, directions to Mangga Dua, a business proposition, English lessons, pose for a photo please mister, whatever, and a coffee and a chat later it's off to the local cheap hotel for a two hour afternooner. All innocent, all great fun, and what Jakarta used to do so well.
Clearly my problem is that the action has now moved on to the airport lobby, now where's my passport ;-)

You are certainly correct that 30 Bar has faded away, it does not compare with its peak of around 3 or 4 years ago though it has to be said that it benefited from a strike at BATS which closed down for several months.
Girls in Jakarta get bored very easily and always want to move on to new places: "new is good". When I first came to Jakarta, Tanamour and JJ's were the places to be! Where are they now?!
In my opinion, the band at 30 has been it's problem. That black guitarist guy has well overstayed his welcome there. Him and his band were good 8 years ago, but he needs to hit the road. The girls are still sweet, but I also agree with the original poster, it has changed (evolved). When I was in Indonesia for the first time in 1997, Hard Rock cafe was still in Sarinah and when it closed you went to JJ's or Tanamour for the late pickups. Now things are more spread out, lots of new places coming and going. And with the use of the internet the girls got a lot more options and opportunities to "meet" guys, but since a few years we also can collect phone number trough the internet.

For someone who mainly asks questions in the forum, you have a lack of respect for some of the biggest contributors here. Incidentally, I worry about how quickly you're ageing: in 2006 you were 35 and now you're 41/42? Either your maths is off or it wont be long until you'll be past it.
That notwithstanding, I understand your urgency in trying to find out more details prior to your visit. You already have the distinct advantage of being white, which will elicit some interest on it's own. Since you are (as you say) still in reasonable shape, it should be no problem to find women. I would be willing to trawl through the city with you - should I have the good fortune to be there - trailing behind you to look out for the girls who show interest. Otherwise, as has been mentioned in these pages, keep an eye out and a friendly smile on your face and you should be able to find what you want anywhere from the airport to the shopping centres. If you want to try your luck, you can go to the clubs which are not "meat markets" like X2 and Dragonfly. I have had friends who have "pulled" in both these places using lines that I would hesitate to use almost anywhere else. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I have to agree that Jakarta has become more commercial since I first started coming(?). I remember the case of Maya in Tiga Puluh (remember B69) who used to be quite sweet and full of GFE. A year later she had been mistreated, contracted STDs and understandably hardened in the process. A lot more guys are going to Jakarta as sex tourists and unfortunately some of them are not the nicest guys in the world (not everyone is a Dorman or Mighty Spearsman). This will impact the city (hence Dorman's comments) but does not make it impossible to find the hidden gems - just much more difficult.
All that being said and done, here I am in Kuala Lumpur dying to find a way to finish off some urgent matters so I can free myself to go to Jakarta for one day of work and 3 nights of fun;). As such, I am about to commit (what one of my friends calls) the ultimate stupidity and fly a few girls TO Jakarta probably in January or February. My Sunday started with a good reflexi in Mangadua square UG floor. Those who love foot massage must try. 25k for 90minutes. You get your own nice and soft chair with own LCD and head phone, etc

Interesting idea but this all started with Dorman's lament on the change in Jakarta - for the worse - and I'm not a bule.
Incidentally the girls catering to the Indian and Arab sector of the "market" tend to be of the fleshier kind, and hence not very much in demand to other parties. I have only met a couple of (slim) girls (my preference) who have catered for Arabs and they didn't - rather surprisingly in light of your statement - have anything bad to say; this is hardly an opinion poll but you only have to go to Tiga Kuda or Delilah to see that those girls have specifically chosen that segment to target - so I guess it can't be all bad.

Reading the Jakarta thread has always been an enriching experience to me, and for that I'm very thankful to its contributors. My first trip was about 5 years ago and it seemed the clubbing scene was about to lose one of its legendary outlets – Tanamur then, I remember still wanting to check it out with a girl I earlier picked up from Bats just to get a feel of it. It must have been very similar in popularity to KL’s Modestos of mid 90’s, just its atmosphere 10 times more intoxicating to any man’s senses. ; o)
On my follow-up visits I frequented clubs like 30, Bats, Embassy, did hunting in Plaza Indonesia and always just loved the experience of being with Indonesian girls who compared to girls in KL were more genuine, fun, crazy open minded. It was usually more fun to be had in one weekend in Jakarta than in one month in KL. Some expats living in Malaysia for a long time often speak of good, old days when being a foreigner would mean scoring with the prettier lot of females. Those times are apparently gone.
But I believe Jakarta is not there yet and won’t be in the next 10-15 years. Yes it’s evolving but so do the expats residing their. I hung around with some at Dragonfly last year and what suddenly struck me is that with their experience and knowledge also came hesitation in approaching the girls, the spark in their eyes, the expression of mischief have faded. And when I didn’t think twice of walking up to girls and starting a conversation they would rather choose to ‘wait and see’, or noticed things like a particular girl looked ‘high class’ and remark why it ‘may not work out with her’. It’s probably the same way things work for me in KL, sometimes girls would ask questions like ‘are you working here? ’ whereas in Jakarta it would usually be: ‘are you first time here? ’, they are all quite good at reading your facial expression, body language and making conclusions about you past and present, so if you get very familiar with the place you may not notice your eyes are not shining with magic like they used to when you first stepped on this wonderful playground. In many clubs which are not meat-markets like Dragonfly first-time visitors score well just because they don’t assume that much. I’ve seen guys scoring with stunners with chat-up lines that were poorly veiled ‘how much? ’ questions. Whether they were misinformed or stupid doesn’t matter. The outcomes often left the ‘knowledgeable onlookers’ shocked.
Jakarta is not becoming less fun, you just have to keep contributing your share of it when meeting those babes.

Just added some info on my trip to Sulawesi in 'Other areas' section. The local guide I met in Manado said the local model-quality beauties are not hard to find at all if 'you know where'. In smaller place like Manado, he explained they do not have the anonimity that makes it easy for chicks (and as you said for us in Jakarta) to be more adventurous in Manado. Things here have to be done without attracting much attention. It will take me a second visit to get a closer look and feel of this place, and the girls from Manado I'd met and almost fallen in love with in Jakarta remind me to get there sooner...

When I reflect on the story of Maya I think you have a good point. Certainly Jakarta has changed a lot but I agree that it is still possible to find the "hidden gems". The change is due to a great many things including the issue you mention. When I first started to visit, mobile phones had only just arrived on the scene and their use was restricted, because of the cost, to businesss users only; certainly no girls had them. One of the effects of that was if you met someone you and they didn't really have the option to delay the process, I think that has had fairly far reaching consequences, as had the internet. However, there is still nowhere better than Jakarta.

I went there yesterday. I didn't see any great new talent, but I did hear some interesting news. I discovered ISG after my last trip to Jakarta in June ’07. I wish I had discovered it sooner, but my previous trips did not suffer too much from lack of knowledge. I have been to Jakarta a total of 3 times for work and there were always women in the office that I visited who were more than willing to offer to come to dinner with me or show me around the city, and ultimately invite themselves back to my hotel room. I never had to do any work, they practically fell into my hands so to speak. They did not expect money, although it was clear they wanted to see me everyday and perhaps start a relationship. I did not mind spending 4 or 5 days with the same lady.
I will be back in Jakarta on Nov 15th and this trip is not for work. It is purely for relaxation and I am looking forward to testing out what I have learned on the forum and not spending the entire time with one woman. My humble two cents.
This enormous city, crowded and poluted at day time and most intriguing at night draws one like a magnet again and again. For those who do not live there but rather frequently visit it, say from a neighbouring country the hunt more often than not begins at night.
Visited a few places; Bats, X2, Blowfish, Vertigo, Dragonfly and CJs. Visit to Bats was just a tribute to the first club I went to some 5 years ago on my first trip to Indonesia. Just a few minutes of observation helped me understand what the more experiences forum members meant with changing sex scene in Jakarta. The place was packed with men who didnt look like expats, more sex tourists of many races you could see in Bangkok in 90's. The ratio of girls to guys was likely near 50/50. But there were probably only 4-5 girls in the 7-7.5 range, no dolls, no honeys.... Couple of them approached, asked 500,000 for overnight even before I expressed my intentions. No elaborate exchange of rhetorical flourishes here ;o), just staight to the business. That sounded too professional, so off I go to the next place.
Blowfish and Vertigo were both visited on Fri night about 11 and 11.30pm accordingly. Had heard about these so many times, so just wanted to have a look. The 1st one had definately a better atmosphere, I could even spot some bules lurking in the dark corners unreached by laser beams. However it was far from happening as there're no clear tagets to hit. A few groups of friends having fun, but not more than that. Perhaps coming later would help change one's luck. With plenty of drinks consumed from the previous places I was already on fire. So destination -Dragonfly. My mind went quite blank while taking a ride in a taxi to this great club, but somewhere half way all the consumed images and sights mixed up into some colourful kaleidoscope and the new plan emerged in mind promising to make this visit memorable.
I had been in touch for over 5 months over internet with a 24 year old cutie, she sings among other things and having just released her 1st cd promised to present a copy when I reached Jakarta. 'What if ask her to meet me in my hotel lounge...' - I was thinking, but then my time in Jakarta's short, 'Impossible is nothing' - came a famous ad line to my resque as I was about about to leave the taxi almost paying 300,000 rupiah istead of 30,000 (the 100's and 10's indeed look alike ;0) Those Blue Bird drivers a very honest! Luckily he only read the meter but not mind... LOL
Dragonfly had apparently changed its setting and not fot the better. They used to have two separate sections, one for the club and the second probably catering for pre-booked events or private parties. They've merged the section and it's kinda lost its soul. They used to have a main dance floor, and in a closer space I remember there was a sense of one party, shared joy and in especially euphoric moments (great DJ sets, good timing of alchohol intake after dinner and a newly found company of a beautiful and fun girl) the night seemed to be pulsating with a rhythm of a single hearbeat.
The crowd was spread out, as the place was too big to fill in. Some in group of friends, some by themselves. There was a number of attractive girls (Citra Lestari type I'd say). I was ordering my second drink and facing the bar when I was approached by an Indonesian guy with 2 nice chicks, all three of them in their early 20s, just before that they were dancing on the wooden podium. I must have looked cool with my back to the dance floor :o) While other guys at the bar were intensely observing what was going on on around them. The guy suggested I take care of the second... those great, hospitable Indonesian people - how could I resist. 'My' girl asked me a few times what I wanted to drink and I said I was still having my whisky, surpisingly she ordered another 4-5 rounds in the next hour for all of us and later it turned out she had a running bill on her credit card, they didn't even late me pay! We were all very drunk by closing time, and they offered to send me to my hotel in his car and his girlfriend insisted my girl make me a company... ;o) There only came two phrases to my mind as we walked in to the lobby, both were from the 'Borat' movie: 'Great success' & 'This was the happiest day of my lives!' LOL
Saturday - my last day in Jakarta. Decided to visit CJ's (curious how it has changed) and then X2 before meeitng the singer later as she agreed to 'just drop by to pass the disk only' after I'd informed her about leaving early next day (made it look spontaneous ;).
CJ's kind of shocked me, although I'd already expected the meat market to lose it's appeal, but the prices two girls I talked to quoted - USD 200 for 1st one and $250 for the other one made it look like I was in Singapore, they were about 8 but at least in Singapore for that price you could get a 10 if you are lucky! I offered $50 just to see their reaction and they did't like it. Perhaps this was an atypical case but still I conclude some guys were paying them near that much. Wonder if GFE can still be found in places like CJ's as there used to be a frequent positive reference to this place in the earlier days of this century ;o)

For a moment I thought it was not real as we walked to the lift. In the room we proceeded to talk casually as if it was just another place. I had a glass of whisky but she just asked for a cola. She noticed a pack of cigarettes on the table and said she was only a social smoker... I offered her one and went to the bathroom (to put some perfume for a better luck) . When I came out she was standing near the window, she looked at her watch and said she had to go soon. I replied she'd enjoy her cigarette much more, only if she took off her watch and playfully grabbed her wrist and helped her to take it off. I only remember her saying 'really?' as I turned away to put the watch on the small table next to bed table, when I turned back she was standing too close, there was the expression in her eyes I could make no mistake about...
Her lips, her almost trembling body with its scent, the moment itself felt incredibly intoxicating... these overwhelming sensations of great luck and racing heart. Sex was equally rewarding, with passion, skill and even selflessness. Almost an hour later as she was leaving asked not to send her to the lobby as i 'must be tired and should get a good rest' and i said i'd be glad comply and will remain in the room to take safeguard her precious first release... ;0))
I flew back home this morning but look foward to being immersed in those dizzying undercurrents of excitement that make this city one of the best treasures of Asia.

Excellent report Zetmaster which simply confirms that I am right and wrong about Jakarta. I'm right that some of the formerly good spots are dreary meat markets now but wonderfully wrong in believing that Jakarta has lost all of her sparkle. The old girl can still produce some magic moments, that's very heartening to know.

CJ's had way more women, but they were crazy in their asking price and even if I offered them somewhere in the 500-700k rupiah range for the night, they thought I was a cheap charlie. They were quoting prices as you said like $100-200 US or basically 1M-2M rupiah but for short time only. I'm hoping that if what I think is a world recession, prices will start falling back in line to something more realistic over time. Refering to the gems who are WLs, I have been spending my trips raiding the MLs working at the Intercon and Mulia hotels fitness centers -- recently alternating between 2 of them, who at different times in the past asked me for the standard Rp 1 million for FS.

Jakarta is certainly the only place I know of in the world where one can look for treasures... and actually find one, or more, like the one you were lucky to find.
The funny thing is that more often than not, it happens when you least expect it, and then you get a memory of a lifetime.
The sheer size of the population make one hopeful that albeit some girls will be spoiled, corrupted, and damaged beyond recovery, (for any use to some of us), there will still remain some true gems worth looking for ...

I am now having the same good time as ten years ago, even being ten years older!(with some help of V and C) My major concern is that ten years ago I saw many girls for which I could have been a father, but now some girls could have been my grand daughter. Jaya pub, what's the craic there? Popped in once to check up on a former GF of mine who now works there, but the place was empty (around 8 on a Wednesday night). Is there anything ever going on here, other than live music? I know of a few places nearby that I stoop to drink in from time to time (not MU cafe, would be hard pressed not to take a dump on the table there) which can be fun, but the mongering possibilities are limited to a few stragglers and the odd cute waitress.

on my way to kartika i changed my mind, decided to try something different and visited a place called gama sehat on jalan gadjah mada a few hundred meters before the busway station leading to stadium. on the left hand side of the street when you look north and 50 meters before bakmi gm restaurant.
90 mn massage is offered for 85 k (happy hour tariff). cheap but the place is really lousy (lockers, showers etc... need complete refurbishment and deep cleaning). i had no choice for the therapist but she was actually ok with an 8/10 face and body. she offered full service for 400 k but dealt at 250 k. no gf attitude, no teets kissing permitted, apparently not really enjoying her job, no bj and she kept a handkerchief on her face when i was in the mish position. to avoid contamination ? from what ? i don't know. and i never been told about bad breath. she also kept a towel on my whole body during the massage session. first time it happened to me.

i walked into this place earlier this year, my first visit after having already stayed in jakarta for two years and having visited the majority of mps in town.
after a quick look and a short discussion with the front desk staff, my gut feeling was "forget it," so i walked out and never returned. your report has only confirmed my gut feeling. sorry that you had to "take one for the team."
apparently you paid a total of 335k for your lousy session. in comparison, a great session at kartika with cindy or neneng, with a soapy massage, bj, tits kissing, plenty of gfe (ands no handkerchief!) would have cost 260k plus tip; if you give a generous 100k tip, then the total would reach 360k, a mere 25k more.
